Let's get one thing straight: happiness isn't the “perk” at the end of success. It's the precondition for it. Jessica Weiss — Happiness Expert, corporate strategist, and author of Happiness Works: The Science of Thriving at Work — dismantles the myth that happiness is soft, fluffy, or found in a corner office. Spoiler: it's measurable, trainable, and completely within your control.Jessica spent 15 years advising the world's biggest brands — Coca-Cola, J&J, AmEx — before realizing something startling: she'd hit every career benchmark and still wasn't happy. That revelation sparked a decade of research into what truly makes people thrive at work. What she discovered is not another feel-good formula. It's science. It's structure. And it's a radical call to rewire how we define success. In this episode, you'll find out Why the “dream job” is a myth — and how to create happiness, not wait for it. The five pillars shared by people who flourish instead of flounder: connection, resilience, optimism, progress, and trust. The neuroscience behind joy — how writing down three good things literally rewires your brain for happiness. How psychological safety (not ping-pong tables) predicts performance and innovation. Why progress is more powerful than promotion — and what that means for your team. How to spot (and stop) burnout using the “antidote” Jessica calls strategic optimism. The Mic Drop Happiness isn't a mood. It's infrastructure. It's not about balance — it's about design. And it's not waiting somewhere outside of you. You build it — one relationship, one mindset shift, one meaningful moment of progress at a time. (edited) Timestamps (0:00) – Intro: Why job security is outdated (1:25) – When success doesn't equal happiness (4:22) – The 5 levers of real workplace happiness (7:08) – Strategic optimism over toxic positivity (9:25) – Building your dream job from where you are (11:52) – Return-to-office without losing joy (17:29) – Two metrics that predict thriving at work (21:38) – The neuroscience of happiness & burnout Pre-order Jessica's book: Happiness Works: The Science of Thriving at Work — out 11/11 Connect with Jessica: jessicaweiss.com | LinkedIn Follow Loren & watch the show: LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/in/lorengreiff/ Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/portfoliorocket/ YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpGM7j8croBkkZ4bLqN7DOQ/ 30-Day Blast — the fast, focused system for today's market.

The Long-Term Impact of Generous Lives with Sharon Epps

The most generous people give something money can't buy—their time, their presence, and their love.Generosity reaches far beyond finances. It shapes hearts, strengthens families, and builds communities of grace. Today, Sharon Epps joins us to talk about the long-term impact of generous living.Sharon Epps is the President of Kingdom Advisors, FaithFi's parent organization. Kingdom Advisors serves the broad Christian financial industry by educating and equipping professionals to integrate biblical wisdom and financial expertise.A Simple Question That Changes EverythingIf you've ever wondered what true generosity looks like, it's often simpler—and closer to home—than we think. Generosity isn't measured by dollar amounts or estate plans; it's written on the faces and in the actions of people who live with open hearts. In fact, if you ask someone a simple question like this, you will move their hearts more than you know:“Think about the most generous person you know. What do they look like? What's their countenance? Their posture?”Take a moment to picture them. Chances are, their face lights up your mind's eye. They're probably joyful, peaceful, genuine—and not necessarily wealthy. That's because generosity is about heart, not income. It's about presence, not possessions. When we make generosity personal, it changes us. We stop thinking in abstract ideas and start remembering real people who gave freely of themselves—and in doing so, reflected the heart of Christ. When this question is asked, the answers are often the same: a grandparent, an aunt, an uncle—someone who gave of themselves through love, laughter, and listening. These aren't people who built foundations or donated millions. They modeled generosity through steady love and consistency. That's what long-term generosity looks like. It starts at home and grows outward.Redefining Long-Term ImpactWhen we hear “long-term impact,” our minds often jump to wills, trusts, or endowments. Those are important tools, but they're not the whole story. True long-term impact happens when we invest our lives, not just our assets.Every day, we have the chance to sow generosity through acts of service, hospitality, and encouragement. These simple seeds—when planted faithfully—bear fruit that outlasts any financial gift because they grow in people's hearts. If you long to leave a legacy of generosity, start small.Serve one person this week. Ask God to show you where you can listen, encourage, or help.Be steady and intentional. Generosity grows through daily habits, not grand gestures.Practice generosity with time and words. The way you invest relationally today can change someone's tomorrow.Over time, those small acts of faithfulness will shape the kind of life others remember as generous.Generosity is most powerful when it's shared. Families that give together cultivate hearts that reflect God's heart. Take your children with you when you serve at a food pantry. Let them see generosity in action. Talk about giving not as an obligation but as a joyful response to God's grace.A Practical Tool for GivingOne practical way to make giving intentional is through a donor-advised fund—or what our friends at the National Christian Foundation call a Giving Fund. It's like a charitable checking account where you can deposit money now and prayerfully decide later how to distribute it.Opening one is quick and easy, and it's a great way to involve your children or grandchildren in deciding where to give. You can learn more or start one in under five minutes at FaithFi.com/NCF.Generosity Flows Toward PeopleIn the end, generosity isn't about how much we give—it's about who we're becoming. It's not just an act; it's a lifestyle. When our generosity flows toward people instead of possessions, we participate in God's ongoing story of redemption. That's the kind of impact that lasts far beyond our lifetime. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I really want to honor God with my giving. I've been thinking about donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and to my local church. Should I split my giving between the two, or focus everything on my church?I called about Qualified Charitable Distributions before, and your explanation helped—but I'm still not sure I understand them. At age 70, it seems like you lose out on any interest or growth from that money, and you can't take a tax deduction. So why would anyone do a QCD at that age? Would it ever make sense to take money from a Roth IRA instead? And are there income levels where a QCD just doesn't make sense? How can I strike the right balance between managing my money wisely and living with radical generosity?I have about $100,000 invested across the S&P 500, NASDAQ, and Dow, but I'm wondering if that's too risky. Would it be safer to put everything into the S&P 500, or is there a better approach? At 76, should I shift more into bonds—and if so, what kind would you recommend?Resources Mentioned:Faithful Steward: FaithFi's New Quarterly Magazine (Become a FaithFi Partner)National Christian Foundation (NCF)Redeeming Money: How God Reveals and Reorients Our Hearts by Paul David TrippWisdom Over Wealth: 12 Lessons from Ecclesiastes on MoneyLook At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions every workday at (800) 525-7000. There's been a lot of talk about revival lately. On today's EXTRA episode, Warren Smith asks some important questions: What's going on in America today? What do the facts say? Also, what are the signs of true revival, and are we seeing those signs in American life. Here are some links I mentioned in today's program: Ryan Burge seems particularly skeptical of a Gen Z revival. In July, he wrote that there was “zero convincing evidence” that Gen Z was returning to religion. He said that 38% of Gen Zers never attend church, compared to 31% of Millennials when they were that age. Jonathan Edwards wrote about revival: A Treatise Concerning Religious Affections (1746) and The Distinguishing Marks of a Work of the Spirit of God (1741).

Inspired by questions from dedicated listener and Startup Society member Cheryl Kosner, I'm providing valuable insights for those considering launching or enhancing their own membership offerings.I start with my own journey of creating a successful membership program, discussing the struggle that comes with deciding how much content is necessary before launching, as well as the importance of validating ideas through market research and initially adopting a minimalist approach, which goes hand-in-hand with structuring content to keep members engaged without overwhelming them. We all want to avoid a tiresome content treadmill!I highlight various phases of my membership's growth, beginning with the launch in 2018. I explain how I navigated various changes to create a sustainable program that grows alongside its members. If you're curious about how to manage content creation without burning out, you'll learn my key strategies that have allowed me to maintain quality without the constant need to produce new materials each week. I stress the importance of solid training that members can access at their own pace and show how a membership's value doesn't solely rely on the frequency of new content. Instead, sustaining engagement through community interaction and live events holds significant value, ensuring members find ongoing reasons to remain subscribed. This episode will provide you with practical insights like:- Effective strategies for launching a membership program tailored to member needs- Key decisions surrounding content creation and ongoing development- Tips for balancing content production with member engagement to avoid burnout- Ways to create lasting value in a membership beyond just new tutorials or coursesIf you're considering starting or improving your own membership program, tune in for a candid conversation that paves the way for you to build a thriving community and financial independence without sacrificing your freedom.Chapters:0:00: What should your membership actually include?1:31: The Freedom of Entrepreneurship5:19: Phases of Content Development10:01: Shifting to Guest Experts13:03: Creating Sustainable Membership Models18:59: Listener Questions and Wrap-UpWant to quit your job in the next 6-18 months with passive income from selling digital products online? Creating an Actionable Customer-Centric Company Culture  Shep interviews Sean Crichton-Browne, co-founder of Market Culture and co-author of The Human Culture Imperative. He talks about how organizations can drive business success by focusing on building a customer-centric culture of empowered employees.  This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more:    What's more important, happy customers or happy employees?  How does starting with the end goal of happy customers encourage better customer service?  What role does leadership play in creating a strong culture of customer-centricity?  How can a company's internal culture directly impact the quality of the customer experience?  How does employee engagement influence customer loyalty and retention?  Top Takeaways:    Whenever you're working to improve customer experience, it helps to begin by picturing how you want your customers to feel at the end. Imagine what you want the customer's experience to be. Work backward from your goal, which is happy and loyal customers, and figure out what is needed at every level of the organization to achieve it.  Happy employees create happy customers, but flipping this idea on its head can create great results for your organization as well. Making customers happy can actually make employees feel better about where they work.  It leads to a better work environment that motivates and engages employees.  When customers are satisfied with the product or service, employees don't have to respond to as many complaints or stressful situations, which makes their jobs more enjoyable and fulfilling. Happy customers often give positive feedback, creating a sense of pride for everyone on the team and encouraging even better service. Listen to your customers. Ask them what they want and what's important to them. When you focus on understanding and meeting those needs, you create a connection between leadership, employees, and customers.  Empowering employees, especially those who deal directly with customers, improves the customer experience. When staff can act quickly to solve issues or offer solutions, without always needing a manager's okay, problems get fixed faster, and customers feel seen, heard, and valued.  The stories told inside a company, whether big or small, have a lasting impact on culture. When employees hear about coworkers going the extra mile for customers or leaders making decisions that put customers first, they inspire similar behavior that can be operationalized for consistency.  Plus, Sean shares more "golden nuggets" from his latest book, The Human Culture Imperative. Tune in!  Quote:   "Put the customer at the center of the business and focus on their satisfaction. Because if we don't have a customer, we don't actually have a business."  About:    Sean Crichton-Browne is the co-founder of Market Culture, a company dedicated to helping organizations understand and implement customer-centric cultures. He is the co-author of The Human Culture Imperative: The Leader's Playbook for Innovation and Sustainable Growth.  Shep Hyken is a customer service and experience expert, New York Times bestselling author, award-winning keynote speaker, and host of Amazing Business Radio.    Learn more about your ad choices. Living simply isn't about deprivation—it's about freedom. And that freedom can unleash extraordinary generosity.God calls us to live with eternity in mind—not clinging to possessions but using what we have for His Kingdom. Randy Alcorn joins us today to talk about how we can loosen our grip on earthly things to open our hands to eternal impact.Randy Alcorn is the founder and director of Eternal Perspective Ministries (EPM) and the New York Times Bestselling author of more than 60 books, including Heaven, Money, Possessions, and Eternity, The Treasure Principle, and Giving Is the Good Life. His books have been translated into over 70 languages and have sold more than 10 million copies.Simplicity That Leads to GenerosityYou've likely heard the phrase, “Live simply, that others may simply live.” It's a short sentence with a world of meaning behind it—and one that feels increasingly relevant today.Everywhere we look, we see need. It's been that way ever since sin entered the world, but now the sheer scale is staggering—billions of people living in poverty, lacking food, clean water, or access to opportunity. When we consider this, it should be shocking to see how much of a difference it would make if those of us who follow Jesus simply chose to live on less—so that we could give more. This isn't about rejecting good gifts or living in asceticism. It's about reordering our priorities so that what God provides doesn't end with us. Living simply creates margin. And that margin can fuel generosity that transforms lives, both now and for eternity. Some people hear “simplicity” and think of minimalism for its own sake—going off the grid, cutting out every comfort, or proudly living with as little as possible. But simplicity by itself accomplishes very little. You could live the simplest life imaginable, and still not help anyone. The goal isn't simplicity—it's purposeful simplicity that opens the door to generous living. If God blesses you with wealth, there's no shame in that. In fact, that's a great opportunity. The question isn't how much do you have?—but what are you doing with what you have? Go ahead and earn well, but then invest it in God's Kingdom. Use what He's entrusted to you to love Him and to love others. That's where simplicity finds its true purpose—in freeing you to give more boldly, more joyfully, and more eternally.Seeing Life Through the Lens of EternityWhen Jesus said, “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,” He wasn't speaking in riddles. He was revealing a reality that reshapes everything we own. But if we have no concept of Heaven—if we're not eager for the life to come—then treasures in Heaven won't mean much to us.Scripture promises that God will one day bring Heaven down to Earth—the new Earth, a renewed creation where righteousness dwells. That's our forever home. That's the world we were made for. When we live in light of that eternal perspective, it changes how we view possessions today. Why cling to what's temporary when you can invest in what lasts forever? The things of this world fade—but what's given to God's purposes endures. For many of us, money and possessions have enormous mass. But when we give generously, we shift our center of gravity from earth to eternity. We begin to orbit around God's Kingdom rather than our own comfort. That's freedom.Becoming God's Delivery SystemEverything we have comes from God—and it's meant to flow through us, not stop with us. I like to say we're not buckets, we're pipelines. God's resources are meant to move through our lives to accomplish His purposes. If the FedEx driver delivered a package to himself instead of the intended recipient, we'd say he misunderstood his job. And yet, that's what many of us do with God's provision. We assume it's all for us when in reality, we're the delivery system for His grace. The Bible says, “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2) Faithful stewards don't hoard. They pass along what belongs to the true Owner. We've all heard the phrase, “God owns it all.” But do we live like it's true? If we really believe that everything we have belongs to Him, then generosity isn't a burden—it's obedience. That changes how we think about earning, saving, and spending. It means asking, “Lord, what do You want us to do with Your money?” That's stewardship in its purest form—managing God's resources for God's glory.Living for the Kingdom, Not the DreamThe Bible doesn't pit generosity against joy. In fact, they belong together. Paul writes in 1 Timothy 6 that God gives us all things richly to enjoy, even as he warns us about materialism.God delights in our joy. He gives good gifts. But He also invites us to hold them loosely. Take that vacation. Enjoy a good meal. But let gratitude and generosity flow together.Living simply doesn't mean rejecting enjoyment. It means finding joy in what pleases God most—seeing our resources advance His Kingdom and bless others in His name. It's easy to justify excess when someone else always seems to have more. But if we're not careful, we can baptize greed in the name of the American dream.God calls us to something far richer—a life rooted in gratitude, freedom, and Kingdom purpose. Living simply and giving generously keeps our hearts anchored in eternity and our hands open to bless others. That's not loss. That's joy. That's freedom. That's treasure that lasts forever. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm 72 years old, still teaching at a state school, and I'd like to resume making payments on my student loans. They've been in deferment, so I haven't been able to make my regular $100-a-month payments. Is there any way I can make those payments? I've been told my loans won't qualify for forgiveness until I start paying on them.My husband and I are 55 and 56, and we own a business along with several rental properties. We have about $500,000 we'd like to invest, and we're considering a hybrid life insurance policy with a benefit access rider for long-term care. 287 | Decluttering Workshop | 8 Strategies to Help You Decide What to Declutter

    Declutter Your Chaos

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 28, 2025 36:07

Hey Guys, Here are 8 rules, or boundaries, you can give yourself while decluttering. Don't try to use them all. Just try one or two and use what works for you. Strategy 1: Clear Decision Criteria Before you touch anything, you give your brain rules to follow. This keeps you out of emotional negotiation. Ask yourself: Do I use this regularly? Does it serve a real purpose in my life right now? Would I buy this again today? Does it align with who I'm becoming? Strategy 2: Binary Decisions Yes = it stays. No = it goes. Maybe = it goes in a 30-day box. If you don't touch it in 30 days, it's gone. Strategy 3: Set Limits Clutter thrives without limits. Space limit: A shelf, a drawer, a bin. When it's full, something must leave. Quantity limit: Only keep the number you actually use. Time limit: Work in short, focused bursts to avoid decision fatigue. Strategy 4: Tests for Clarity If this disappeared today, would I replace it? Does this item fit the life I'm creating, or is it tied to a past version of me? Strategy 5: Function Over Story Sentiment is valid, but function decides what stays in your active space. Keep the memory, not the object. Take a photo if needed. One small sentimental box only. Clear boundary. Strategy 6: Exit Strategy Every item needs a destination the second you decide. Donation box. Trash bag. Maybe box with a date. Drop-off or pick-up scheduled. Strategy 7: Decision Hierarchy Function trumps sentiment Space trumps guilt Future trumps past Strategy 8: Prevent Backslide Touch once. Decide once. Use post-its with the destination of object written on them to help with this. Hope this helps! XO, Amber Let's connect:

Notice a time when you've experienced innocence. (Tip: dogs, cats, babies and little kids are a good touchstone for this kind of experience.) What did it bring up within you? In this group inquiry, participants become aware of a sense of openness, levity, and joy, as well as a sense of wanting to protect and care for that innocence. And then Tom asks this question: Is it true that you are not that innocent? Can you absolutely know you are not innocent in that exact way? What is your experience of the world when you believe this of yourself and the rest of humanity? After joining in this inquiry, you might notice the next time you have that experience (whether it's one of guilt, blame, self-condemnation, or any withholding of love) it's easier to just say, “Oops, I did it again. I believed I'm not that innocent.”

Just in time for Halloween, Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas returns to the show for the third time to discuss the writing and recording of their chaotic 2024 single, “A Work of Art.” The song is a true audio assault, which is appropriate considering its source of inspiration: the third installment of Damien Leone's gory horror franchise Terrifier. Chris and Spencer once again explore the band's signature fusion of brutal riffs, theatrical flair, and film homage, diving deep into the cinematic soundscapes, grisly lyrical imagery, and dynamic vocals that bring the song to life. Despite the breakneck changes and interludes, it's a gigantic, undeniable chorus that brings this massive track together, and every aspect of its creation is explored in this week's episode. Call someone you haven't talked to in five or ten years. Shoot a text. Reconnect. The longer you wait, the harder it gets, and the truth is, life's too unpredictable to assume you'll always get another chance. This one's short, direct, and human. No fluff. Just a practical reminder to stop overthinking it and make the damn call. The returns—personally and professionally—are worth it.   If you found this helpful, check out:   •The Apprenticeship – our live workshop on communication and influence.   •Speaker School – for anyone who wants to present and persuade more effectively.   •Join our community at ArtofCoaching.com/community for bonus materials and episode breakdowns.

A few episodes ago, we covered Derek Tharp's research suggesting that not everyone should delay until 70 — especially those with shorter life expectancies or limited assets. This week's headline brings the opposite perspective: Michael Finke argues that for higher-income retirees who expect to live longer, claiming early is almost always a mistake — and that fear-based decisions about Social Security's solvency can cost retirees hundreds of thousands in lifetime income.  Plus, a listener asks about giving with warm hands vs cold hands - which is a euphemism for giving during life vs giving after death. How much can they give without fear of running out of money?
