Generosity. Is it an action, a state of the heart, or a mind-set? I heard recently that generosity is BEST when it includes all three and we compare it with IMPACT. Have you ever thought about your giving in this way? That your giving could possibly be leveraged for the highest impact for eternity? What if we all stopped and looked and prayed over the resources we have, and re-committed the 10% tithe of all our income, to MAXIMIZE impact for the Kingdom? Isaiah 32:8 says “But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.” What will you do today, to put on this new “eternal” mindset of generosity?

In her mid-20s, she got her big break when a large fashion house hired her to design a wedding dress collection named after herself. But that dream only lasted eight years. She found herself in the middle of a legal battle that would take away her collection, her job as a designer, and eventually her name. What happens when a child falls years behind in reading and writing? This week’s episode of The Happy Families Podcast dives into one of the most talked-about moments from Parental Guidance: the Life School parents’ children struggling with basic literacy. Justin and Kylie share why reading matters so much, how to help children who resist school and learning, and practical steps for parents who feel overwhelmed when their child is falling behind. If you’ve ever worried about your child’s progress—or felt judged by others—this conversation will give you hope, empathy, and a clear path forward. KEY POINTS: Reading is a gateway to learning, and kids need to see, hear, and engage with books daily. Many families lack books in the home—screens have crowded them out. Literacy struggles can stem from earlier traumatic or negative schooling experiences, creating resistance. Avoidance of learning challenges often worsens anxiety; action and support are crucial. There is no quick fix—progress takes time, love, and the right support network. Collaboration with schools is vital, but sometimes alternative schooling or tutors may be necessary. Motivation often follows competence—find what your child loves to learn and build on that. Above all, children need to know that they are loved, supported, and not alone in their struggle. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: "Readers are leaders, and leaders are readers. But before anything else, your child needs to know you love them, no matter how hard the journey gets." RESOURCES MENTIONED: Previous Happy Families podcast episodes on How to Help Kids Love Reading #952 - An Interview with Author Sally Rippin #918 - A Slice of Advice on Getting Your Kids to Read More happyfamilies.com.au for more resources on literacy and schooling alternatives, including: Rethinking School: Why Alternative Education Might Be the Best Choice for Your Child Home Schooling 101 With Brett Campbell of Euka How to Raise Kids Who Read Nine Now app to watch Parental Guidance ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS: 1. Read to your child every day, even if they’re older.2. Let your child see you reading.3. Fill your home with books your child can access anytime.4. Work with the school to understand and address learning challenges.5. If needed, explore alternative schooling options or hire a tutor.6. Avoid avoidance—take small, consistent actions to build competence.7. Help your child discover an area of learning they’re motivated by.8. “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things differently.”With those words, Warren Buffett reminded us that character and integrity matter—especially in the world of money. Now, after more than sixty years of market-shaping moves and famous one-liners, Buffett is calling it a career. Today, Matt Bell joins us to reflect on his legacy and share what timeless lessons every investor can learn from it.Matt Bell is the Managing Editor at Sound Mind Investing, an underwriter of Faith & Finance. A Track Record That's Hard to IgnoreIf you had invested $100 in Berkshire Hathaway back in 1965, that single investment would have grown to over $5.5 million by the end of last year. Compare that with the S&P 500 over the same period, which would have turned $100 into just $39,000. Clearly, Buffett did something different. One unconventional move? He never issued dividends for Berkshire Hathaway, instead reinvesting profits to increase share value. That patient, long-view approach paid off—and it hints at biblical principles like delayed gratification and wise stewardship (Proverbs 21:20).Buffett famously said, “Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.” While Christians would rightly reject greed and fear as motivations, the deeper principle here is about remaining steady and disciplined in volatile times—echoing Proverbs 14:15: “The simple believe everything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.”Buffett often waited with cash on hand until the right opportunities appeared, especially during downturns. That patience and discernment mirrors biblical instruction to avoid impulsiveness and instead seek wisdom in decision-making.Investing Lessons With Biblical ParallelsOver the years, Buffett offered dozens of pithy insights that mirror biblical truth. Here are a few standouts:“If you don't find a way to make money while you sleep, you'll work until you die.”—This speaks to the wisdom of putting money to productive use—earning a return through thoughtful investing, a principle echoed in the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25). “Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing.”—In Proverbs 15:22, we're reminded that “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” Financial ignorance creates risk, but biblical stewardship calls for wisdom and learning. Diversification, emotional control, and long-term vision—Buffett emphasized all three. These align with a measured, prudent approach to money that Scripture continually encourages.Buffett never let global turmoil shake his confidence in long-term investing. He wrote, “In the 20th century, the U.S. endured world wars, recessions, a depression, oil shocks, and more—yet the Dow rose from 66 to 11,497.” His takeaway: “It's been a terrible mistake to bet against America.”While our hope as Christians isn't rooted in any one nation's economy, Buffett's long view reminds us of the value of endurance and not making decisions based on fear or short-term noise (see James 1:5–6).Generosity and LegacyPerhaps most inspiring is Buffett's commitment to give away 99% of his wealth. He plans to direct his Berkshire Hathaway shares toward philanthropic causes within ten years of his estate being settled. While we may differ on where those funds go, the posture of open-handed generosity reflects Jesus' teaching: “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).Buffett's success wasn't just about intellect—it was about character: discipline, patience, and generosity. These are values every believer is called to cultivate. As you manage your resources, consider how biblical principles—often echoed in even the most unlikely places—can shape a wise, faithful financial life.To explore these ideas further, read Matt Bell's full article, The Wisdom of Warren Buffett at SoundMindInvesting.org.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I've never had a credit card before, but I recently received a pre-qualified offer from Capital One. They mentioned they've reviewed my credit and noticed I'm keeping up with my bills. Should I consider applying for this card, and how can I verify that the offer is legitimate? As a grandmother, I'm concerned that my grandchildren aren't learning essential financial skills from their parents. I'd love to step in and help, especially with my 20-year-old grandchild. What is the best way to encourage them to save money and manage their finances wisely?Over the past couple of years, God has really blessed me with increased income, and I'm incredibly grateful. I live simply, help my parents, and avoid lifestyle inflation—but I want to make sure I'm handling this increase in a way that honors God. How can I manage this money with biblical stewardship in mind?I'm in a strong financial position—no debt, and I tithe faithfully. I just received $15,000 from selling off some business assets and want to invest it wisely. I'd like it to earn a good return, but I also want it to remain accessible if needed. In this episode, Kim talks to Rt. Rev. Dr. Emily Onyango about the East Africa Revival Movement that began in 1927 and is still reverberating through East Africa today. Begun by two people praying for true faith in the Anglican church, the movement grew among laypeople to denominations across East Africa, challenging patriarchy, tribalism, and racism. Because one priest oversaw six or seven churches, women empowered by the spirit preached, shared their testimonies and lead their churches. They dressed in white to mark their new way of living, and today a few of these very elderly women still challenge and influence church leadership today. At the time of the revival, Kenya's practice of polygamy was at an all-time high, yet these believers lived monogamous, egalitarian marriages. They sent their daughters to school in addition to their sons, and the changed the fabric of society. Today, the leaders against government corruption and tribal sectarianism have their roots in the East Africa Revival Movement. Guest Bio Right Rev. She offers Year of Inquiry, a vibrant membership community of inquirers Sept-June each year. Learn more about Year of Inquiry at https://workwithgrace.com/year-of-inquiry Grace also has a special love for those suffering from eating issues including disordered eating (disordered thinking) of all kinds--having suffered from this behavior and thought/feeling process herself and finding an unshakable peace within around eating, food, health and behaviors with eating. Grace works with all kinds of compulsions, habits and addictions as they are all the same thing: a pull to some behavior, substance or activity in order to help us with our stressful feelings and thoughts. As Byron Katie offers us (founder of The Work); when we believe what we think, it creates unnecessary suffering. When we question what we think, we feel lighter and less serious about what is. We even begin to laugh. We notice who we really are is peaceful already, a human being living life as best we can--learning, growing, loving. In the public sessions on this youtube channel, we have all-group inquiry sessions called First Friday Inquiry, we have interviews with practitioners of The Work, we have Eating Peace videos (on the eating peace playlist) and we have individual sessions in The Work by courageous people willing to be recorded for Peace Talk podcast and this channel. Thanks to everyone involved in what is shared here on this channel, as it is great service to others in the world who find their way here and who are curious about life without "believing" thought all the time. In all-group sessions and solo sessions, we begin with a judgment...and move into the four questions and turnarounds. Willingness to be real and honest with your thinking is the first powerful step in The Work. No one ever has to share when attending Friday Inquiry, and thank you when you do. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Are you a Christian standing alone in your work or professional life? Are YOU standing alone in OTHER areas of your life? What if you prayed and asked for a group that you could “do life and work” together with? We, as God's creation, were BUILT for community. IF you have no community, you may be operating out of God's will or slogging or surviving, vs. thriving. We challenge you today, to ask a trusted Christian friend, or to go online and search for a Christ-honoring community to be a part of.

For many families, a food allergy diagnosis doesn't just change what's on the menu, it changes how they live. Suddenly, everyday moments like playdates, birthday parties, family vacations, or a simple trip to a restaurant feel like navigating a minefield. Parents become hyper-vigilant, kids feel isolated, and the fear of accidental exposure looms large, casting a shadow over milestones that should be joyful. But what if much of this suffering is preventable? What if the way we introduce food in infancy could reduce not just allergic reactions, but the emotional burden they carry? In this episode, I'm joined once again by Canadian board-certified Pediatric and Adult Allergist/Immunologist Dr. Stuart Carr. With over 3 decades of experience, Dr. Carr is the Chief Medical Officer at Snö Asthma & Allergy in Abu Dhabi. Send us a textOn today's Thursday Thoughts, Polly and I are talking about self-worth — the importance of which cannot be overstated. As Jamie Kern Lima says in her book, Worthy, our self-worth is our ceiling; in other words we will only ever get as far in life as we believe we're worthy of getting.Unlike self-confidence, self-worth truly is an inside job, and not something we can get from anything outside of ourselves, i.e. a job promotion, a relationship, or a medal. The truth is that we are all inherently worthy, so it's just a question of unlearning all of the subconscious beliefs that have taught us we're not. Polly & I talk about our own feelings of self-worth, as well as discussing some practical ways that we can increase our own sense of worthiness. We really hope you'll find something helpful in here.Love, Polly & Lucy x Support the showPre-Order my book, SHINY HAPPY SINGLES (UK) / THRIVE SOLO (US & Canada) at: https://www.lucymeggeson.com/book Download my FREE PDF 'The Top 10 Answers To The Most Irritating Questions That Single People Get Asked On The Regular...& How To (Devilishly) Respond'? I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 17th of July, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of John 18:36. Jesus answering Pontius Pilate said: “…My kingdom is not from here.” Then we go to the Gospel of Luke 12:15: “Take heed”, Jesus says, ”and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”To covet something is to want something that is not yours, and something that you probably don't need but you just want it. My dear friends, I have seen it so many times. We don't need half of the stuff that we have in our homes, do we? I am talking to myself as well. You know, there are things that we love, there are things that we really want but we don't need them, and that is a big danger.Do you remember the story of the man that worked so hard all his life. He scraped, he scrimped, he lived “on the smell of an oil rag” as they say. He worked so hard but it came at the expense of his family, it came at the expense of relationships, he became unpopular. He wasn't very well loved. He saved it up and bought gold, and he bought lots of gold. In fact, he had a suitcase full of gold bars. And then he died and he went to Heaven, and he took that suitcase with him and when he got to Heaven, the Lord asked Him, “What have you got in that suitcase?” He said, “I have got my possessions, the things that I have coveted all my life and I have brought them with me.” The Lord took him outside. He said, “Do you see the streets here in Heaven are paved with gold? It is worthless.”Oh my friend today, please start to focus on eternal things. I am talking about relationships with your loved ones. Work on those things. Don't work on things that rust and moth will destroy, things which have no eternal benefit. That's what Jesus said to Pilate. He said, “This is not My kingdom. My kingdom is in Heaven.”Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.

Spiritual strength includes emotional awareness and obedience in seeking healing and support.Notable Quotes:"Despair is suffering without meaning." – Dr. Chinwé Williams"You can't logic a child out of despair. They need connection, not correction.""Fear and self-doubt are not signs to stop. Often, they are signs you're walking in obedience.""Being unemotional does not equate to being more spiritual."Resource Mentioned:
Today's Lake and Shed framed conversation is about Rowling's remarkable “fairy-tale” and the history and meaning of its release during the “pandemic” hysteria of 2020. The Ickabog, along with Casual Vacancy and Ink Black Heart, is not only one of Rowling's most autobiographical works, but, with the Lake and Shed interview, the Solve et Coagula tattoo, her RFK Award speech, and the Trans Tweet Heard Round the World, a key to her self-understanding in the critical year 2019-2020. Nick takes the ‘Shed' point and lays out the controlled demolition of her reputation among Group Thinkers on the Left in the lead up to Ickabog's publication and John shares the meaning of ‘The Ickabog's Song,' the embedded text of the tale, as interpreted by Daisy Dovetail (an embedded author?).New to the Lake and Shed Kanreki Birthday series? Here's what we're doing:On 31 July 2025, Joanne Murray, aka J. K. Rowling and Robert Galbraith, will be celebrating her 60th birthday. This celebration is considered a ‘second birth' in Japan or Kanreki because it is the completion of the oriental astrological cycle. To mark JKR's Kanreki, Dr John Granger and Nick Jeffery, both Nipponophiles, are reading through Rowling's twenty-one published works and reviewing them in light of the author's writing process, her ‘Lake and Shed' metaphor. The ‘Lake' is the biographical source of her inspiration; the ‘Shed' is the alocal place of her intentional artistry, in which garage she transforms the biographical stuff provided by her subconscious mind into the archetypal stories that have made her the most important author of her age. You can hear Nick and John discuss this process and their birthday project at the first entry in this series of posts: Happy Birthday, JKR! A Lake and Shed Celebration of her Life and Work.Tomorrow? Perhaps the best single book by Rowling-Galbraith, Troubled Blood. Nick will be sharing Rowling's skills in and beliefs about astrology which plays an outsised role in the fifth Strike novel. John talks about the “Best Mate” scene in the Agency office and its important mythological backdrop.
