Cultivating H.E.R. Space: Uplifting Conversations for the Black Woman
Hey lady! If you believe that the children are the future then this week’s episode is for you. Drs. Ann Ishimaru and Decoteau J. Irby are two dynamic scholars who join Dr. Dom and Terri to lay out a purposeful perspective that can help you gain clarity in your plans for creating equitable outcomes for all children. This episode isn’t just for parents. This episode is for anyone who knows that the strength of the community includes all of its citizens, especially children. Drs. Ishimaru and Irby are educators and scholars who are passionate about creating a path forward despite the clear signs of society regressing. The two offer views into what themes they are seeing across schools, districts, and communities, and why this moment is both new and completely different. In their book Doing the Work of Equity Leadership for Justice and Systems Change the scholars offer clear foundational elements to building a more equitable future for our young people. They also lay out small but powerful actions parents can take to be in a healthy and engaged relationship with the educators of their community. Tune in for the specific questions that they provide parents and community members to use in their daily lives. Lady, by now it’s clear. We’re all in this together. Let’s get excited about our work to build the world we wish to leave our children. Tap in and holla at us in our Patreon community about how you plan to build a table where our children are welcome. If you've ever turned a simple request into a full-blown production — congratulations, you're one of us. In this short, unfiltered episode of This Is Woman's Work, Nicole Kalil shares a painfully relatable story involving kindergarten, lasagna, glitter, and a catastrophic failure to ask a clarifying question. This episode is a reminder (and a loving call-out) for all the women who default to over-functioning, over-planning, and over-complicating things that were never meant to be that deep. Sometimes the bravest, smartest move isn't doing more — it's asking the damn question. Because clarity beats chaos. And noodles in a box beat four trays of lasagna. If you're spiraling over something that feels way harder than it should be, this episode will hit you right in the overachiever feels. A funny, human reminder that better communication — and one simple question — can save you a whole lot of unnecessary stress. Thank you to our sponsors! Sex is a skill. Your progress mirrors the expectations around you. In today's episode, Kevin and Alan break down how the people, environments, and standards you accept quietly shape your discipline, confidence, and long-term trajectory. This conversation cuts through surface-level self-improvement and reveals why many driven people plateau despite consistent effort. You will hear how subtle influences affect identity, decision-making, and performance, and why real growth requires more than motivation. It demands precision, awareness, and intentional positioning. If you care about personal development, leadership, fitness, business, and mental resilience, this episode will challenge how you evaluate your circle, your habits, and your standards._______________________Learn more about:Track the Work. On today's episode, content creator and mama of three Ruby Smoot gets real about the parts of infertility and pregnancy after infertility we don't talk about enough — the mental health spiral, the obsessive thoughts, the fear, and the quiet, heavy darkness that can creep in while you're trying so hard to become a parent. In this deeply candid conversation, Ruby opens up about pregnancy after infertility while battling OCD and intrusive thoughts, navigating severe nausea called hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), and what it felt like to hold hope and despair at the same time, and how becoming pregnant didn't magically erase the mental health struggles she was carrying. Because as many of us know: having babies doesn't fix everything — you still have to heal. She also talks about getting pregnant again, and having HG a second time. Now a mom of three kiddos, Ruby reflects on what she wishes she'd known, how she got support, and why talking honestly about maternal mental health might be the most important thing we can do for each other.Follow her on IG: @rubydu91 And TikTok: ruby.duEPISODE SPONSORS: THE WORK OF ART BOOK SERIESAli's Children's Book Series about IVF, IUI and Family Building Through Assisted Reproductive Technology https://www.infertileafgroup.com/booksThe latest book in the Work of ART series, “You Are a Work of ART," is for every kiddo born through ART -- and the people who love them.Order "Work of ART," "Beautiful Bird" and "You Are a Work of ART," now at https://www.infertileafgroup.com/booksFERTILITY RALLYIG: @fertilityrallywww.fertilityrally.comNo one should go through infertility alone. I tried to record a normal episode today. I couldn't. I sat down to talk about creativity like I usually do, and instead I found myself overwhelmed, heartbroken, and honestly… empty. In this episode, I share what it feels like to be a creative person living in America right now when the news feels unbearable, when your emotions are so full they leave you feeling blank, and when you're wondering:What is even worth creating at a time like this? How are we supposed to go about daily life? This is a raw, unscripted reflection on creative paralysis, collective grief, human rights, and the cruelty happening around us, including the actions of ICE and the fear, harm, and devastation our communities are experiencing.I talk about:-Small ways to stay creative and human when you feel helpless-Creative burnout from current events and how to move through it -How to alchemize pain into purpose-The role of artists, makers, and storytellers during hard times-Why this moment is not a political issue, but rather, a human rights issueIf you've been feeling distracted, heavy, unable to focus, or wondering how to keep making things when your heart is breaking, this episode is for you. I love you. I'm with you.
What happens when two art students fall in love, start freelancing together, and accidentally build one of the UK's happiest creative brand agencies? In this episode of Truth, Lies & Work, we're joined by Gemma Ruse and Xavier Shariff, the husband-and-wife co-founders of Studio Zag, a 60-person agency that designs and builds experiential installations for brands all over the world. STUDIO XAG: https://studioxag.com/ Gemma: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gemma-ruse-646979a Xavier: https://www.linkedin.com/in/xavier-sheriff-49091132 Ellie Glason PR: https://ellieglasonpr.com/ They met at 20 in a house share at Central Saint Martins. They've been together for over 20 years, running Studio Zag together for 16 of those. They've clad a 35-metre boombox onto Diesel's Carnaby Street facade, become a certified B Corp, and built a business where people regularly say: "This is and will always be the best place I've ever worked." This isn't a story about having it all figured out. It's about trusting your gut, knowing when enough is enough, and building culture through brilliant work — not ping pong tables. What you'll learn in this episode Why they never planned to work together (and why it works anyway) How complementary skills matter more than identical visions Why "disagree in the room, commit outside the room" is their partnership rule The difference between forced fun and authentic culture Why they don't want to grow from 60 to 600 people (and what that says about sustainable business) How trust your gut feeling actually works as a leadership strategy Why great work IS culture (and how they keep that red thread of attention to detail at scale) What it means when people say your agency is, "the best place you've ever worked" Gemma and Xavier are brutally honest about the realities of building a creative business with your life partner: the complementary strengths, the stubborn moments, and why sometimes the best business advice is to ask yourself: "What does this feel like in my stomach?"
What if the thing holding you back is not confidence, but the feedback you keep avoiding? In this episode, Kevin and Alan challenge one of the most popular myths in self-improvement. Real self-worth is not built by feeling good. It is built by doing the work, facing blind spots, and improving what actually matters. Drawing from years of coaching, hard-earned lessons, and thousands of conversations, they explain why comfort-driven advice slows progress and why real growth requires honest mirrors. This is a grounded conversation about responsibility, discipline, and becoming someone who can handle the truth. Press play if you want progress that lasts, not reassurance that fades._______________________Learn more about:Track the Work. Earn the Results. 10 Pounds in 10 Weeks Challenge. A sneak peek behind the scenes of The Regulated Woman, dropped right in the middle of the Energy Is Everything series because money is, in fact, energy. In this bonus, we're reframing wealth as something neutral, dynamic, and always in motion and exploring the small energetic shifts that make money feel safer to receive, spend, and circulate through your life.TOPICS WE EXPLORE: • Money as neutral energy, not a moral measure • How your thoughts and emotions shape your relationship with money • The river metaphor: where you're gripping, hoarding, or damming the flow • Why “high vibration” isn't the goal, gratitude and trust are • Spending with intention as an energetic investment • Receiving without guilt, shame, or resistance • How to build safety with money so it feels welcomed with you • Practicing neutrality to remove the emotional charge and create more space • Opening more “channels” for wealth through micro shifts and awarenessPOINT OF THE EPISODE:Money is always moving and your relationship with it determines how easily it can flow into and through your life. When you shift from fear and tight control into trust, gratitude, and neutrality, you create safety for wealth to circulate and expand.MENTIONED: • The Regulated Woman (this episode is a sneak peek behind the scenes) • Exercise: list the emotions you associate with money and imagine neutrality • Visualization: money arriving from unexpected places and noticing what your body doesAre you loving it? In this wide-ranging and unfiltered conversation, Jason Ingber sits down with Abe Hendeles to talk about fatherhood, work ethic, faith, technology, politics, and what it really takes to build a life and business from the ground up. From raising kids in an uncertain future to running a last-mile delivery operation across Los Angeles, Abe shares real stories about sacrifice, independence, and service. The conversation dives into modern phone addiction, the importance of Shabbat and unplugging, government regulation, entrepreneurship, and the realities behind logistics and delivery work. They also explore big-picture systems and responsibility, from Tesla and EV infrastructure to hydrogen cars, leadership, and why nothing worth having comes easy. This episode is raw, thoughtful, and deeply human. No scripts. No shortcuts. Just honest perspective on work, family, money, and meaning in modern America. Topics covered include: Parenthood, responsibility, and preparing for the future Why "hope without action" can be dangerous Life without a phone in a hyper-connected world Faith, Shabbat, and the power of unplugging Behind-the-scenes realities of logistics and delivery businesses Tesla, EVs, hydrogen cars, and why systems matter Work ethic, leadership, and independence Politics, accessibility, and public trust If you enjoy long-form conversations about real life, business, culture, and responsibility, this episode is for you.
Equipment financing scams target busy entrepreneurs who need tools and machinery to grow. The most dangerous scheme? Companies advertising impossibly low rates, then demanding upfront fees before securing actual approval. Contracts contain hidden clauses making these payments "non-refundable" when real terms arrive much worse, or never materialize. Other red flags include automatic lease renewals requiring cancellation within narrow windows (miss it and pay another full year), deposit schemes where companies simply disappear, and interim rent manipulation, adding phantom months to your bill. Protect yourself: Never pay significant fees before final approval. Verify companies through BBB ratings and complaint searches. Read every contract clause about renewals and refunds. Ask when the lender gets paid—legitimate companies earn commissions only upon successful financing delivery. Work with lenders who have dealer referrals and established reputations. If rates seem unbelievable or pressure tactics emerge, walk away. Your business deserves transparent financing partners, not predatory traps. Robert Misheloff

Are you eating clean, training smart, managing stress — maybe even using hormone replacement — but still struggling with fatigue, inflammation, stubborn weight, low energy, or poor recovery?
You know what to do for your health. You've known for years. But knowing hasn't made it stick - and starting over is getting exhausting. This episode picks up where my conversation with Dr. Amy Beheimer left off and slows things down enough to look at what actually stops health habits from sticking. Not willpower. Not discipline. The thoughts and feelings that show up before you ever take action. This is a guided journaling episode designed to help you understand why certain health goals keep falling apart - and what needs to shift so you can follow through in a way that actually fits your life.We go beyond “I should be doing this” and into the beliefs, expectations, and quiet pressure that keep pulling you back into the same cycle.Journal through these prompts:What health habit do you know you “should” be doing, but keep not doing because it feels too small to matter? When you think about doing that habit, what do you tell yourself that stops you? Not the logical reason - the automatic thought that shows up.If you're brutally honest, do you actually want this health goal? Or do you think you should want it because everyone else does? If you don't want it, what would feel good to your body instead? What would need to change about this habit for you to genuinely want to do it? Not force yourself. Not white-knuckle it. Actually want it.Dr. Amy says habits aren't just what we do or don't do - they're the thoughts and feelings that come first. This episode is for you if you've ever wondered why your body seems to hold onto fat, why cravings hit even when you just ate, or why dieting alone never seems to work.In this episode, I break down the storage hormone, insulin, and why understanding it is not just about biology—it's about how your mind, habits, and environment shape your hormonal responses. I share practical ways to reduce cravings, balance hormones, and eat in a way that actually supports your body.1. Insulin Isn't Just About FoodMost people think insulin is purely biological: “Eat sugar → insulin rises → fat storage happens.” But here's what I want you to know: your mind controls it too.Thoughts, anticipation, and habits can trigger insulin release.Insulin signals: “We have excess energy—store it, don't release it.”Paired with cortisol (the stress hormone), insulin drives cravings and fat storage more than you realize.Your biology is responding to your thoughts and environment as much as your plate.2. Everyone Responds DifferentlyI've seen it hundreds of times in the Make Peace With Food program: no two people respond the same way to food.Certain foods trigger more insulin in some people than others.Your sleep, stress, activity, and lean muscle mass all influence insulin's effect. That's why a personalized metabolic blueprint is so powerful—it shows you exactly which foods are truly nourishing for your body.Forget generic diets. Your hormones hold the real answers.3. Food Pairing & TimingIt's not just what you eat—it's how you pair it and when.Pairing carbs with protein, fat, or fiber reduces insulin spikes.Eating according to your circadian rhythm helps your body use energy efficiently.Anticipation of food triggers insulin before the first bite, creating cravings and prepping digestion.Understanding this alone can change how you respond to cravings.4. Cravings, Scarcity, and StressStress drives cravings at the hormone level:Cortisol increases blood sugar needs for immediate energy.Insulin follows, storing sugar and locking away energy. The drop in blood sugar afterward is what we feel as cravings.I share a personal story from hosting my retreat in Greece—stress and scarcity triggered intense cravings even though food was abundant. This shows how mindset directly interacts with hormones.5. Actionable StepsMonitor your hormones: notice stress, sleep, and food triggers.Mindful pairing: combine foods to balance glucose response.Strength training: lean muscle mass improves insulin efficiency.Anticipation awareness: notice how thoughts about food trigger cravings.Shift scarcity mindset: create safety around eating by experimenting with what nourishes you.The Reframe I Want You to Take With YouInstead of asking:“What should I eat?”I want you to start asking:How does this affect my hormones?Am I eating from safety or scarcity? What patterns am I reinforcing? What does my nervous system need right now?Transformation doesn't come from control. It comes from understanding.Key TakeawaysThe storage hormone is influenced by both biology and mindsetThere is no universal “healthy” foodStress and cravings are hormonally linkedAnticipation alone can trigger storageFood fear creates overeating — safety creates balanceHormone awareness beats calorie countingBook your FREE 30-minute Food Freedom Call now and start your journey to lasting change! A Phil Svitek Podcast - A Series From Your 360 Creative Coach
What is the role of an artist during turbulent times? When the world feels loud, chaotic, and overwhelming, creating art—or even choosing joy—can feel self-indulgent or irresponsible. But history shows the opposite. Art is often the first thing oppressive systems try to erase, because it's a powerful form of communication, imagination, and inner freedom. In this episode, I reflect on why joy itself is a quiet but meaningful form of resistance, how awareness doesn't have to mean constant outrage, and why real activism is often unglamorous, collective, and rooted in everyday kindness. Drawing on ideas from Viktor Frankl and personal experience as a filmmaker and creator, this is a reminder that making art—whether professionally or as a hobby—is not wasted time.If creating gives you something, that alone is enough.

Silence in leadership is rarely intentional — but it's never neutral. In this short R@W Note episode of Relationships at Work, Russel Lolacher explores how delayed communication, hesitation, and “waiting until we know more” can unintentionally create confusion, anxiety, and cultural drift on teams.Leaders often hold back for good reasons: they want clarity, the right answer, or more information. But while leaders are thinking, teams are interpreting — filling gaps with assumptions, stories, and uncertainty. This episode reframes leadership presence as communication in progress — not perfection — and offers practical ways to lead with clarity even when decisions aren't final.Because leadership isn't about speaking last. This is an episode for people grappling with how to manage and how to embrace AI. Good managers in the future will seamlessly balance being human, creative, fallible, empathetic and visionary with tools, systems and services which automate all that isn't differentiated nor distinct. Managers and people who refuse to adapt and evolve will be extinct in a workplace soon to be fueled by agents (and not the good looking Hollywood kind).Good managers use AI to buy time and insight. Bad ones either ignore it or dump garbage prompts into it and call that progress. The myth of management is that more people equals more power. The reality that managing people is hard, bureaucratic, and often inefficient. The future of good leadership looks like fewer people doing better work, supported by better tools. This is WORK. Send us a textIf you're the one everyone turns to, you might be carrying more than you realize. We sit down with psychotherapist and mental wellness consultant Leah Marone to unpack the “serial fixer” habit—why it thrives in first responder culture and how it quietly fuels burnout, resentment, and frayed relationships. Leah works extensively with police, fire, EMS, and dispatch, and she brings sharp, compassionate insights you can use today without adding hours to your schedule. We break down the real difference between therapy and consulting, then rebuild the foundation of wellness with small, sustainable practices: bookending your mornings and nights, using micro resets during daily transitions, and reclaiming self-care as single-task presence instead of numbing or multitasking. Leah introduces a practical rule that changes conversations fast—support, don't solve—along with validation skills that help teammates, partners, and kids think more clearly and take ownership. You'll hear how the fixer impulse can become “compassion as control,” why quick advice often backfires, and how to replace that urge with grounded presence.Expect concrete tools and memorable metaphors. The internal “balloon” lets you notice pressure before it pops, and that shaken “soda bottle” reminds you to release slowly, not explode. We also cover sleep hygiene as the no‑nonsense cornerstone of recovery, data collection to challenge “dark cloud” thinking, and first responder-ready ways to downshift from high gear without losing your edge. If you want stronger boundaries, steadier energy, and deeper connection, this conversation will help you change your default settings. To reach Leah, here is the link to her work: https://linktr.ee/leahmaronelcswIf this resonates, tap follow, share it with a teammate who needs lighter armor, and leave a quick review so more first responders can find these tools. This audio comes from Minneapolis Minnesota earlier this week, as Anti-ICE protestors mobbed a hotel where they believed ICE agents were staying. Two federal agents were left trying to defend the building and staff as protestors smashed windows and attempted to enter. Normally, local law enforcement would be present to defuse a situation like this, but Minneapolis police were nowhere to be found. Local authorities in Minneapolis, headed by Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey, seem in no hurry to turn down the rioting in their streets. In the wake of two tragic deaths of protestors impeding federal investigations, unrest has only ramped up. Here to talk about why is Lora Ries, director of the Border Security and Immigration Center here at the Heritage Foundation. --- Thoughts? Questions?
