But what was Habakkuk talking about in his own time? Did the apostle cut the verse out of context and distort it for his own purposes? Whose faithfulness are we talking about, anyway? Abu and Leo return to the Lost Entries series with two Dune Encyclopedia manuscripts that never made it into print. Both were written by one of the Encyclopedia's most prolific contributors, and detail the life of Dune's Oppenheimer: a man named Roj Amalkin, who invented the deadliest weapon in the galaxy.. Today, we'll talk about the Yongle Encyclopedia, a monumental Chinese text dating from the Ming dynasty, and provide you with a fascinating narrative detailing its six-hundred-year journey, tragic dispersal, and ongoing global recovery.

With roots in eastern and western Oklahoma, Bob Blackburn graduated from Southwestern State College with a degree in History before earning his Masters and Doctorate degrees in History from Oklahoma State University. At the time of his graduation from OSU in 1979 he already had published his first of 26 books and discovered the new field of historic preservation. That same year he began a career in public history as editor of The Chronicles of Oklahoma, the journal of the Oklahoma Historical Society. In 1989 he was named deputy director and a decade later became executive director. Under his leadership, with a widening circle of mentors, colleagues, and partners, Blackburn developed a new business plan for all Oklahoma Historical Society operations that included a combination of state investment, private donations, and self-supporting sustainability. Among his accomplishments are the Oklahoma History Center, the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum, the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, the Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History and Culture, the Battle of Washita Monument as part of the National Park Service, and the Gateway to Oklahoma History—a rapidly growing digital universe of newspapers, photographs, manuscripts, and documents accessible to everyone at no cost. Blackburn's contributions have been honored by the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits, Leadership Oklahoma and Oklahoma City, Putnam City Schools, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, OSU, the Journalism Hall of Fame, and the Higher Education Hall of Fame, among countless others. This week, we are sharing an historic conversation among Ohio comic book royalty: Prolific, award-winning creators Brian Michael Bendis and Marc Andreyko. The conversation was moderated by Mike Sangiacomo, one of the Founders of the Siegel and Shuster Society. Recorded live on July 11, 2026, at the Cleveland Public Library as part of the weekend-long Icons Fest held in conjunction with the Icons in Ink: The Jewish Comics Experience exhibit at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage (on display until August 23, 2026). Growing up together in Northeast Ohio, Bendis and Andreyko first teamed up as friends to create the true crime comic book series Torso, the story of the "Torso Murders" in Cleveland in the 1930s when Eliot Ness was the city's Safety Director. Their wide-ranging conversation included stories about their early collaboration and the on-going challenge of bringing Torso to the screen, their storied careers in the comic book and entertainment industries, and Cleveland Public Library's role in Bendis's decision to go to DC to write for Superman. Brian Michael Bendis was born in Cleveland, took classes at Cleveland Institute of Art, and did work for several Cleveland-area newspapers and magazines in his early career. He has co-created characters like Miles Morales, Jessica Jones, and dozens of others that populate the Marvel, DC and all-new original universes. He is a New York Times bestseller and has won numerous awards for his work, including multiple Eisner Awards and a Peabody for Jessica Jones. Bendis was Executive Producer of the Academy Award winning hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Bendis' fabled move to DC Entertainment after nearly two decades at Marvel made international headlines, making his DC debut in the landmark Action Comics 1000. Bendis continues to be a prolific creator, producer, Marc Andreyko grew up in Mentor, graduated from Mentor High School, and co-created the character Kate Spencer/Manhunter for DC and was the original writer on Wonder Woman '77. He has written comics for Dark Horse, DC, IDW, Image, and Marvel. Michael Sangiacomo is a long-time writer of articles on Superman and the comics industry for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. In 2006, he penned an article that urged Cleveland to embrace the creators of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and this led to the creation of the Siegel and Shuster Society of which he was a founding board member. Sangiacomo has also taught comic book history at Case Western Reserve University and is a comics writer himself. Episode 425: In May 1934, five identical girls were born in a farmhouse outside Corbeil, Ontario. They were the first quintuplets known to survive infancy anywhere in the world. Within weeks, the Province of Ontario had taken them from their parents. What followed was nine years inside a government-run compound called Quintland, where millions of tourists paid to watch the Dionne sisters play through one-way glass, twice a day, while their faces sold soap, cereal, and corn syrup across North America. The girls went home in 1943. The horror of what happened next took decades to come to light. Episode 97 This is a story about Philadelphia's gay history, beginning with the first protest at Dewey’s Restaurant in the 1960s, our Reminder events and history makers who've made an incredible difference in our city's LGBTQIA community. Historically, Philly pride was held in an area of the city called the Gayborhood.  Named as such in October 1995 during the city's first Outfest in honor of national coming out day.  David Warner of the Philadelphia City Paper changed the lyrics to Mr. Roger's famous song and said It's a beautiful day in the gayborhood.  In 2007, the city installed 36 rainbow street signs between 11th and Broad Street, and Walnut and Pine Streets to recognize the gay history in our city.  This year, the event was moved to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, yet many chose to celebrate as they always have – in the Gayborhood. What they didn’t expect was an overwhelming police presence as they celebrated Philly Pride 2026. What would the Enlightenment look like if we viewed it through the eyes of the philosophers as they were facing death? Joanna Stalnaker turns our usual perspective on the Enlightenment on its head, bringing to light a set of works written at the end of the Old Regime and at the end of their authors' lives. These works, all written before the French Revolution, cast a retrospective glance over the intellectual movement their authors participated in, and over the authors' own lives and works. Stalnaker shows that the beauty of these works stems from their authors' efforts to give literary form to the materiality and fragility of their dying bodies. As they reflected on writing as a means of reaching posterity, Enlightenment philosophers embraced the possibility that neither their names nor their writings would survive long beyond the decomposition of their bodies. They inscribed the silence and nothingness of death into their last works. Stalnaker's book The Rest Is Silence: Enlightenment Philosophers Facing Death (Yale UP, 2025) unsettles reigning interpretations of the Enlightenment as a precursor to our modernity and shows its protagonists at their moments of fragility and doubt, capturing their sense of an ending rather than the confidence in a glowing future so often attributed to them. Joanna Stalnaker is professor of French at Columbia University. She is the author of a prizewinning first book, The Unfinished Enlightenment: Description in the Age of the Encyclopedia. She lives in New York City. Morteza Hajizadeh is a Ph.D. graduate in English from the University of Auckland in New Zealand.
