In the early 1990s, a contractor working alone in a rural Texas home experienced something he couldn't explain. It began with movement in an empty room — subtle enough to question, but impossible to ignore. Then came a sudden chill… and a faint sound that didn't seem to come from any one direction. When he mentioned it to the homeowner, he didn't get disbelief. He got a name. The house sits near a creek and an old cemetery, and the story attached to it goes back decades. But what unsettled him most wasn't fear. It was the feeling that he wasn't unwelcome. Some spirits make themselves known in ways that don't feel threatening — just present.Love real ghost stories? 1163. This week, we look at what it's like to be a "language detective" with Sali Tagliamonte and how she used her own teenagers as a research lab. We look at a 25-year study on how the phrase "be like" became a permanent fixture of English, why the word "very" is suddenly making a comeback with younger generations, and what happens to our language when we spend all day talking to AI. “There's no better human on the planet to stand up for herself once she realizes how powerful she is than a menopausal woman.” Wise words spoken by the wonderful Dr. Mindy Pelz, who joins the podcast to unpack what's quietly shaping how we as women see ourselves, our bodies, and our worth. We explore how unresolved trauma biology impacts longevity, influencing everything from nervous system regulation to autoimmunity and cardiovascular health, especially in the post-menopausal years. In this inspiring episode of Reading With Your Kids, host Jed Doherty welcomes author Celesta Rimington to talk about her powerful new middle grade novel "Reach." Centered on a boy named Denver, Reach explores the complicated emotions that come with blended families, sibling tension, and the grief of losing the "old" version of your family. When a mysterious magical forest and an ancient talking tree transform Denver's younger stepbrother into a tree, Denver is forced to confront his unspoken wishes and big feelings about change, loss, and love. Celesta shares how her own childhood—losing her father at a young age, becoming the older half-sibling in a large blended family, and feeling both responsible and displaced—informs Denver's journey. She also explains how nature, national parks, and asking "what if?" questions fuel the magic in her stories, including Reach, The Elephant's Girl, and Tips for Magicians. Parents and educators will love her ideas for using Reach to spark family conversations about grief, change, identity, and the idea of "forced family" versus chosen family, as well as the fun STEM elements in the book, from robotics to the "wood wide web." Later, Jed talks with Michael Cottman, author of "Segregated Skies: David Harris's Trailblazing Journey to Rise Above Racial Barriers." Michael shares the inspiring true story of David Harris, the first Black commercial airline pilot for a major U.S. airline, and how his perseverance, humility, and courage during the Civil Rights era can inspire young readers, especially during Black History Month.

Episode 89 kicks off with What Irritated Me This Week, and baybeee… the girls did not waste time. Jerrilyn and Lynee’ dive straight into the chaos at the BAFTAs where a man with Tourette’s loudly shouted the N‑word during a silent auditorium — and somehow kept doing it whenever a Black person walked by. The ladies weren’t buying the “show grace” narrative, especially when the broadcast magically found time to edit out “Free Palestine” but left in a hard‑ER surprise. With their signature blend of humor and “no, because let’s be serious,” they break down ableism, racism, and why apologies that start with “if you were offended…” should go straight to voicemail. Then the episode rolls fully into Girl, What Happened, and it becomes a buffet of foolishness. They break down King vs. 50 Cent, including King’s volcanic Instagram rant about Fifty disrespecting Tiny — the kind of rant where you can practically hear the phone shaking. From there, they explore Fifty’s ongoing villain origin story (complete with petty real estate purchases), Blueface’s never-ending mess, and the epidemic of women dating men who should come with hazard labels. The ladies spiral gloriously into everything from self-esteem, gun licenses, boxing classes, and why some people need to be cussed out at “infraction number one.” And just when you think the episode is calming down, boom — they’re dissecting Elon Musk’s brain-chip experiments, U.S. patents, conspiracies, the Department of Education, detention centers, and why Google should be your best friend instead of TikTok University. But don’t worry, they end the episode on the lightest of notes: debating which ice cream flavor truly represents their souls (pistachio slander included) and planning their next girls’ trip like it’s a federal operation. It’s peak She Said It First — chaotic, hilarious, sharp, and somehow educational if you’re paying attention. This is my favorite State of the Union address and favorite Trump speech ever. I've probably said it before but this is the one. I was imploring Trump as the speech unfolded to go off script and point out that two year olds pout less than the grumpy democrats in the room that couldn't applaud low gas prices, more private sector jobs or closed borders. Then he dropped the bomb on them. "Stand up if you agree the first duty of government is to protect American citizens and not illegal aliens." This was THE moment of the speech and painted a perfect picture of a party hell bent to change America forever by ignoring the laws we all voted for. Prince Andrew's downfall has accelerated sharply in the wake of fresh allegations tied to Jeffrey Epstein and the explosive release of Virginia Giuffre's memoir, Nobody's Girl. The book recounts new details about Andrew's alleged sexual encounters with Giuffre while she was being trafficked as a minor by Epstein. These revelations reignited public outrage and renewed scrutiny over Andrew's long-denied relationship with both Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Buckingham Palace has reportedly been forced into damage control, with King Charles III supporting Andrew's decision to give up his “Duke of York” title and remaining royal honors. The palace has publicly stated that the new allegations must be fully investigated, signaling growing institutional distance from Andrew as pressure mounts for full transparency and accountability.Adding to his disgrace, newly surfaced claims allege that Andrew attempted to orchestrate an online smear campaign against Giuffre to salvage his reputation. According to The Guardian's coverage of the memoir, the prince and his aides tried to hire internet trolls to harass Giuffre online and even sought access to her private information, including her Social Security number. Reports indicate that the Metropolitan Police have opened an inquiry into whether Andrew misused his royal security detail or other public resources during this smear campaign. If your workouts feel harder than they used to… If your recovery takes longer… If your brain feels foggier after a stressful day… You need to hear this. It's not about motivation. It's not about discipline. And it's not because you're "getting older." In this episode, Dr. Mindy breaks down a shift that almost no one explains to women: Estrogen stimulates creatine production. And when estrogen declines in perimenopause and menopause, creatine can decline too. Creatine isn't just a gym supplement. It's critical for cellular energy. It helps recycle ATP, the fuel your muscles and brain run on. When ATP drops, strength, recovery, and mental clarity can shift with it. This conversation will change how you think about midlife performance. In this episode, you'll learn: What creatine actually does inside the female body Why creatine matters more after 40 The connection between estrogen, ATP, and muscle strength How creatine supports brain energy and stress resilience What the research says about safety and dosing Who should consider creatine, and who shouldn't How to support strength long term through physiology, not willpower If you're lifting heavier but building less muscle… If your brain feels slower under pressure… If you've been blaming yourself for feeling "off"… Bookmark this episode. Share it with a friend who's navigating perimenopause or menopause. Because when you understand your biology, you stop fighting your body. Check out the Bytes Law Group here! https://bytes.law In this video, we're talking about the TikToker/DoorDash girl, Olivia Henderson, who accused a customer of SA'ing her when she dropped off a food delivery at his house, because she found him lying on his couch in his living room unclothed from the waist down. The problem is, her characterization isn't exactly accurate, and the decisions she's made since that encounter have already led to some legal consequences—and could lead to even more.
