In this episode of the Hacker Valley Studio podcast, hosts Ron and Chris interview Patrick Coughlin, Co-Founder and CEO of TruSTAR. Patrick began his career as a security analyst in Washington D.C. and the middle east. By working with government contractors, multinational corporations, and counter-terrorism units, Patrick learned that the biggest challenge that security analysts have is retrieving the needed information from disparate data sources. This discovery led Patrick to founding TruStar. Patrick’s focus is to help organizations automate the collection and curation of threat intelligence data.Patrick’s analytical prowess originated from working at Booz Allen Hamilton where he learned a fundamental skill that all cybersecurity analysts should have - how to put together a slide deck. This skill helped Patrick articulate the importance of threat intelligence to leaders in the government and private sector. As the episode progresses, Patrick details the differences between threat intelligence requirements for national security and enterprise. For enterprise threat intelligence programs, the goal is to accelerate automation of detection and rarely attribution. Patrick also mentions automation is only as effective as the data is cleaned, normalized, and prioritized. What about the good, bad, and ugly of threat intelligence? Patrick describes that an organization can thrive by leveraging internal intelligence. This can be overlooked when organizations are fixated on buying threat data feeds and subscribing to ISAC feeds. Most enterprise organizations have a detection and response stack that is constantly providing information about threats relevant to their organization - which serves as great threat intelligence data.Chris and Ron ask Patrick about the science vs art aspects of cybersecurity and threat intelligence. Patrick describes that there is room for both art and science in threat intelligence. While new concepts are being discovered, there is art in finding the needle in the haystack. However, at some point, intuition can be described into steps that a machine can repeat. For example, after years of analytical practice an analyst can describe how and why they are tagging threat intelligence related data in such a way that can be repeated by other analysts or automation. This episode covers an abundance of tactics and techniques for threat intelligence analysts. Patrick describes the best place to begin automating threat intelligence is detection. An analyst can ask the question, “How do I get sources of known bad indicators into my detection stack so that I could drive high fidelity detections?”. As false positives decrease, your mean time to detection (MTTD) and resolution (MTTR) decrease which makes your threat intelligence and security operation team members more effective. 0:00 - Intro1:53 - This episode features Patrick Coughlin, Co-Founder and CEO of TruSTAR2:30 - Patrick’s background and start as a security analyst5:19 - How to automate threat intelligence while reducing analyst fatigue7:05 - How Patrick cultivated his analyst prowess8:43 - Articulating threat intelligence to government and enterprise organizations11:09 - Can a threat intelligence program be automated?17:21 - Patrick’s experience of “good” and “bad” threat intelligence programs20:31 - Logic vs Intuition in threat intelligence27:04 - Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to make threat intelligence decisions28:42 - Where to start when automating threat intelligence30:02 - How to stay in touch with Patrick Coughlin Links: Connect with Patrick Coughlin on LinkedInLink to Patrick’s company TruSTARLearn more about Hacker Valley Studio.Support Hacker Valley Studio on Patreon.Follow Hacker Valley Studio on Twitter.Follow hosts Ron Eddings and Chris Cochran on Twitter.Learn more about our sponsor ByteChek. Take our FREE course for building threat intelligence programs by visiting www.hackervalley.com/easy

As an art collector, writer, and brother of a musician, it turns out that McGinnis has a lot to talk about. McGinnis not only shares pragmatic advice useful for any creative, but is a bold storyteller who respects art and culture. Patrick asserts that vaccines are not only ineffective, but also dangerous. He says that the current state of forced vaccinations for children is akin to a military vaccine holocaust, and that these injections are causing major health problems, from autism to cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s Disease and more. In addition to being an independent researcher, Patrick has written dozens of books, including ICD 999 and Continuum. Some of the topics that you’ll hear about on today’s podcast include: 5:30: How Patrick’s personal experience with his mother’s kidney disease and serum sickness led him to his research on the role of politics and religion in healthcare over the last 5,000 years. 12:30: The ICD-900 series is a series of codes used by healthcare providers to bill insurance companies for vaccine-induced diseases. 17:00: A list of conditions that are caused by serum sickness from vaccines. These include minor ailments like hives, malaise and fever, as well as more severe diseases, like heart disease, inflammation of the blood vessels, and Crohn’s disease. 33:15: Cases of famous doctors who have vaccinated their own children or grandchildren with new vaccines, only to cause neurological damage, in the case of Jenner, or disease and death, in the case of Ochsner. 46:40: Information on the case of an outbreak of cowpox 100 years after the disease had been eradicated. Edgar March Crookshank, a professor of microbiology, looked into this, and concluded that vaccination should never have happened and that it should be discontinued in the future. 56:40: Vaccine-preventable diseases have been used as biological warfare. At one time, Spain inoculated children with smallpox directly before putting them on a ship en route to South America. As planned, the children developed pustules just as they were disembarking in the new country, allowing them to unwittingly transmit smallpox to a population who had never been exposed to the disease before, creating mass death. 1:05:20: The lie of mercury-free vaccines: There is still thimerosal (mercury) in “mercury-free” vaccines, but it is not required to be on the labels, because it’s simply part of the manufacturing process and not added as a separate ingredient.

On today’s episode of Just the Tips, Dean and I get started on the right foot when he serenades me about how excited he is to be my co-host. And then, we have an absolutely amazing guest in Patrick McKenna. Patrick is the Founder and CEO of Strike Social, a global, technology-enabled digital advertising company. He has more than 30 years of experience in business development and technology consulting for major corporations. He literally helped build Microsoft into the juggernaut it is today, and with his new company, Strike Social, he’s worked with little mom-and-pop shops like Honda, Mattel and Lionsgate. How sales influenced Patrick’s approach to entrepreneurship Patrick told us that when he was in college, he was pre-law. And then junior year came around and he realized he didn’t want to be a lawyer anymore. So instead he dipped his toe into business, and got started selling phone service to businesses door to door. And as brutal a job as that was, it taught him a really valuable skill early on: You have to do your research. In order to sell, he had to understand what a business did, what their day-to-day looked like, etc. And that skill of learning about customers and what problems they have that need solving has served Patrick well as he’s advanced through his career. How to build a business out of an idea Patrick built an entire, successful division of Microsoft before going on to found Strike Social, one of the fastest growing companies in the country. So I asked him how his work at Microsoft helped him get to where he is today, and he said that what’s really helped him is that he can sell. And that doesn’t just mean selling to a customer, it also means selling something internally as well. And then by taking the feedback from those pitches and really learning to build something, Patrick has done something that not many entrepreneurs can claim as their own. How did Patrick build a company so quickly? One of the key tips Patrick picked up at Microsoft is the need to do high-quality market analysis. Before you even enter a market, you need to know who your competitors are, what their strengths are and what their weaknesses are. And you have to be able to build a case for why it would be a good idea to enter that market, and why you will be successful. And so the “homework” that Microsoft required him to do has ensured that when he started Strike Social, he did the homework, too. And that has allowed Strike Social to grow rapidly. What is Strike Social? When he was at Microsoft, Patrick was part of a leading-edge technology team, and that’s no different with Strike Social. The company works with huge businesses to grow their digital advertising using artificial intelligence. And Patrick was very candid about the company’s early days, which had the company hitting the ground running because of the sales team they had in place, but also hitting speed bumps because they didn’t have a strong technical team in place. Technology, with all its faults, has undeniably improved the human experience. It’s easier for us to receive medical care, read a book or talk to loved ones. But have you ever thought about how it could make it easier to work with a lawyer? Patrick Brown is a coder and lawyer who has created a platform called Codepact that generates customised legal documents that are intuitive and accessible for the average person. Rather than wade through all of the legal jargon, those using Codepact will be presented with a simplified interface that provides definitions for confusing topics and easily walks the user throughout the process. On the latest episode of the Beyond Billables podcast, Patrick explained how this is the way of the future. In the not too distant future, he said, most lawyers will be using some form of software to streamline their work. If this sounds interesting, be sure to listen to the full episode. We also chat about: How Patrick taught himself how to code Why most lawyers are perfectly capable of learning how to code themselves How technology will help increase collaboration in law How automated contracts take out excess boilerplate and helps clients understand what’s going on The intricacies of branch version control and how it can make your life easier Why new technology makes it easier for lawyers to skip drudgery and focus on what they really care about How lawyers can learn from coders when it comes to innovation and change Why you should start your own law firm — and why it’s easier than ever   Links: Patrick Brown’s Website Codepact Codepack Training

To hold you over until next week, here is one of the most interesting but less well known conversations from the invest like the best archives.] This week’s episode is the most unique to date. My guest is Boyd Varty, who grew up in the South African Bush, living among and tracking wild leopards. The main theme of our conversation is tracking, and how the same strategy for pursuing animals in the wild can be applied to all aspects of our lives. Boyd’s family has been tracking animals for four generations, and he is bringing what they have learned to a larger audience around the world. The episode includes the best answer I’ve ever heard (which comes when I ask Boyd to describe his most memorable experience). We also discuss the dangers of an achievement or goal oriented mindset, and what he learned from spending time with Nelson Mandela as a boy. This episode is one I hope you share with those you love, because I think Boyd’s ideas will have a profound impact on many who are thinking about what to do with their lives—whether they are young or old. What gives a 27-year-old with no experience in apartment building investing the audacity to swing for the fence? Patrick Duffy grew up in Southern California before heading east for college. After graduating from Harvard in 2013, he returned to SoCal to work as a commercial real estate banker and later for a hedge fund, buying non-performing mortgages. He grew up around real estate, his family owning a multi-family property since the 1950's, and he had always intended to invest in apartments—as soon as he had the money to do so. Before long, Patrick was unhappy at his job, so he started reaching out to investors he had lent to in order to get clarity on how to analyze deals. Despite his lack of experience on the principal side of real estate, Patrick started studying LoopNet and set the goal of securing 100 units in two years. Eventually, he discovered Michael's Deal Desk resource, and used the Syndicated Deal Analyzer to get feedback on a 69-unit property in Memphis. The deal met Michael's criteria, and the two forged a partnership. Today Patrick explains the steps he took to research the Memphis market, how he made use of the act ‘as if' approach to secure a letter of intent, and his best advice for working with investors. Listen in as he shares the mindset that helped him swing for the fence on a multi-family deal and how doing his first deal has changed the game for Patrick, as he aspires to reach 1,000 units in the next 12 months.   Key Takeaways [3:30] How Patrick landed on the partnering strategy to finance multi-family Briefly considered flipping single-family Preferred multi-family, but biggest block was capital Looked at creative financing options Partnering seemed like most feasible route Goal to secure 100 units in two years [6:04] How Patrick found the Memphis deal Clarity re: how to analyze deals Practiced via LoopNet (comparing markets, packages from brokers) Underwriting to get feedback Memphis market seemed ideal (cap rates, unit sizes, price) Reached out to learn about Memphis market Found 69-unit deal on LoopNet Submitted to Syndicated Deal Analyzer Positive feedback from forum Called broker on New Year's Eve [9:23] Why Patrick continued to move forward Nothing to lose Deal met criteria for partnering via Deal Desk Act ‘as if' approach to secure LOI [11:13] Michael's partnership with Patrick Impressed by Patrick's thorough research Surprised by return (Memphis not one of published geographies) Got contract from seller, proposed changes Built team as went (property manager, lawyer) Patrick took initiative Under contract with seller Wire EMV Collect due diligence docs Financial due diligence process Create investor package Met in Memphis to look at property Michael sent sample deal package to investors Acquired financial commitments Hired SEC attorney Started appraisal process [13:18] Patrick's experience working with investors Michael's network eager for deals that fit criteria Addressed questions about specifics of market SEC attorney had drafted necessary documents Used DocuSign to track eSignatures [15:23] The closing process for the Memphis 69-unit deal Loan approved, investors wired funds Patrick received acquisition fee of $23,000 Also reimbursed for expenses incurred during due diligence [16:25] The impact of doing your first deal Only so much can be taught re: what to expect Once learn to partner, can scale quickly Feel more comfortable and taken more seriously Brings down barriers Patrick under contract on 196-unit deal two weeks later Expects to hit 1,000 units in next 12 months [19:50] Why size isn't a factor for Patrick It's about process Anything under 500 units is viable Don't worry about equity Finding deal is the issue (not money) [21:35] Patrick's advice for aspiring multi-family investors Take advantage of Deal Desk resources Does require high level of commitment Hard work is worth it Connect with Patrick Email: pduffy32@gmail.com Resources Deal Desk Syndicated Deal Analyzer Ultimate Apartment Investing Course The Financial Freedom Summit Live LoopNet DocuSign Free eBook: The Secret to Raising Money to Buy Your First Apartment Building

On this week’s episode of the Healthy Wealthy and Smart Podcast, I join forces with the PT Pintcast and host Jimmy McKay PT, DPT to get a behind the scenes look at the Graham Sessions.  This is the 10th anniversary of the Graham Sessions, which was founded by Steve Anderson, PT, DPT, Drew Bossen, PT, MBA and Patrick Graham PT, MBA. The Graham Sessions is a one and a half day meeting that allows physical therapists from across the country to come together and talk about the big issues facing our profession.    In this episode we talk about: - Why the Graham Sessions were created - Their most memorable discussions from past sessions - How Steve's recent retirement affected his outlook on the profession and the session - How Patrick's recent health crisis changed his outlook on life and career - How to create and maintain a successful collaboration - And much more!   After asking Patrick how his illness changed his outlook on life and career part of his answer included: "I don't think I worry about things as bad as I used to." On how to create and maintain a successful collaboration Steve said: "You need people you can be 100% transparent with." Patrick talks about the leadership of the profession and how important it is for the success of the Graham Sessions: "Continued support of our leadership to embrace something that is not of the norm says a lot about the 2 boards and the leadership and their vision for the profession."   A huge thank you to the Patrick, Drew and Steve for allowing Jimmy and I to be part of the 10 year celebration of the Graham Sessions.  It was an honor! FOMO Alert! You are not going to want to miss out on this episode! Patrick McGinnis, Author of the 10% Entrepreneur joins Ambition Today for episode fifteen. We talk about the unique ways in which people can engage in entrepreneurship on the side, how to travel the world, and how Patrick coined the term F.O.M.O. (Fear of Missing Out) on the internet. Patrick went from growing up in the small blue collar town of Sanford in Maine to visiting over 70 countries, investing in several companies with AIG Capital, co-founding his company Real Influence, and now publishing his book. Leaving Maine, Patrick went to Georgetown for International Economics which eventually lead to an entire year being paid for to live in Argentina. After his time abroad he came back to work in Latin American investment banking on Wall Street in New York City. When his position was dissolved he then re-evaluated his role in finance and went on to Harvard Business School before joining AIG Capital. At AIG Capital Patrick focused on investing in early stage startup companies. He later founded, Real Influence, a company which enabled branded video partnerships for early Youtube stars. That experience taught Patrick the lessons he shares now in the 10% Entrepreneur. From Patrick’s life we also explore: + Overcoming the local hometown mentality when leaving your hometown. + The value of traveling the world and living abroad. + What to do when you find yourself in a life threatening situation. + How Patrick went from Wall Street analyst to Venture Capitalist. + The impact being at AIG during the 2008 financial crisis had on Patrick’s life. + What stress can do to the body long term when you let it build up. + Overcoming Turrets syndrome and what other people think. + Making the leap from investor to founder. + Selling something for the first time. + What does it mean to be a 10% Entrepreneur. + How partnering with people can expand yourself outside your comfort zone. + How do you get a book deal. + Coining the word term F.O.M.O. (Fear of Missing Out) on the internet. + Learning resilience at an early age.
