Episode Notes:Dr. Reeves' Background – Trained as a psychologist, his interest in cybersecurity emerged from a talk connecting human error to security breaches.Cybersecurity Fatigue Defined – A form of disengagement where employees lose motivation to follow security practices due to overload and conflicting advice. Not Just Apathy – Fatigue often affects people who initially cared about cybersecurity but were worn down by excessive or ineffective interventions.Training Shortcomings – Lecture-style, one-way training is frequently perceived as boring, irrelevant, or contradictory to users' experiences.Compliance vs. Effectiveness – Many organizations implement security training to meet legal requirements, even if it fails to change behavior.Reactance in Security – Users may intentionally ignore advice or rules to assert control, especially when training feels micromanaging or patronizing.Better Through Design – Reeves argues that secure systems should reduce the need for user decisions by simplifying or removing risky options altogether.Remove Rather Than Train – Limiting administrative rights is often more effective than trying to educate users out of risky behaviors.Mismatch With Reality – Generic training that conflicts with real policies or system restrictions can confuse or alienate users.Cognitive Load and Decision-Making – Under stress or fatigue, users rely on mental shortcuts (heuristics), which attackers exploit.Personal Example of Being Fooled – Reeves recounts nearly falling for a scam due to time pressure, illustrating how stress weakens judgment.Cybersecurity Buddy System – Recommends encouraging users to consult peers when making sensitive decisions, especially under pressure.Cyber Deception Strategies – Reeves now researches ways to mislead and trap attackers inside systems using decoys and tripwires.Applying Psychology to Attackers – The same behavioral models used to study users can help predict and manipulate attacker behavior.Empowering Defenders – Deception technologies can help security teams regain a sense of agency, shifting from reactive defense to proactive engagemenAbout our guest:Dr. Andrew Reeveshttps://www.linkedin.com/in/andrewreevescyber/https://research.unsw.edu.au/people/dr-andrew-reeveshttps://www.unsw.edu.au/research/ifcyberPapers or resources mentioned in this episode:Reeves, A., Delfabbro, P., & Calic, D. I am Pascale Gibon, your host. In episode 345 of the Everyday Life Balance Show, I am so thrilled to announce the celebration this week of the 7th anniversary of The Everyday Life Balance Show. It is an honour to lead this show and celebrate with you every week the joy of designing our lives to achieve peace, joy and fulfilment. Thank you so much for tuning in weekly, subscribing and leaving your comments. In this episode, we will dive into honouring our field of dreams. I intend to inspire you to pursue and accomplish your dreams to feel fulfilled. You will learn in this episode how to deepen your vision for your life, strengthen your belief in your ability to start again and get results. Your fulfilment awaits full expression.  Life is beautiful, and one of those beauties is the opportunity to design our lives and reinvent ourselves at will. We all have ideals; however, there is a gap between those who follow their ideals and those who do not. Those who succeed at living their ideals have a clear vision and follow specific steps to get there. They do not assume it will happen overnight, though they believe strongly it will come true. Today, we will explore how you can start bridging that gap and move towards living your ideal life. Perhaps you aspire to transition to live your best life and turn your dreams into reality. If so, start by creating a clear vision of what your life will look like. What makes it ideal, and why do you want it? Now that you have a vision of your ideal life, let us dive into a practical process to help you realise your vision. Project yourself into the future one year from now. Imagine you are living your ideal life. Write down on paper what has happened for you to succeed. What steps did you take to get to where you are one year from now? This Future Pace Visioning Process projects you into the future, where you have changed your results and accomplished your dream. It allows you to identify the steps you took to succeed. It is enlightening to envision yourself in the future as if your dreams have already come true. You act with this vision in mind. The Future Pace Visioning Process gives you a roadmap to accomplish your goal. Albert Einstein said that imagination is more powerful than knowledge. This principle highlights the necessity of vividly visualising what you want to accelerate the manifestation process. For example, I manifested the flat I live in. I wanted a flat with external space, a fireplace and high ceilings. Can you believe that a flat with high ceilings, a balcony, and two fireplaces is what I found? Visualisation is so powerful. To clarify, when I approached the estate agents to buy my property, I already knew what I was looking for, which shortened the process. There is a saying that you know when you have found the right home to live in. I knew I had found the right flat because it met all my criteria. Spending more time visualising what we want and setting specific goals and intentions to improve our lives is necessary. However, this process is not always straightforward.  Sometimes, we do not know what we want or where to start. In other instances, our limiting beliefs, which often manifest as deeply ingrained thoughts that negatively impact our perception of what we can achieve, such as “I'm not good enough,” “I can't succeed in this,” or I don't deserve success,” stop us from thinking big, progressing, experiencing success outside of our comfort zone and reaching our full potential. A practical tool to overthrow your limiting beliefs is to change your perspective into one that is empowering and positive. For instance, if you feel like you can not cope with something because of fear, you can replace negative thoughts with more positive and empowering ones rather than succumbing to powerlessness. For example, you might ask yourself, "How can I overcome this?" to generate new empowering ideas. To help us overcome these challenges, we can turn to expert guidance. According to Mary Morrissey, the author of “Building Your Field Of Dreams,” there are four areas where we usually create results or experience improvements: Our health and well-being  Relationships Career Time and money freedom Let us discover how you can assess and improve these areas of your life. An alternative is to consider all seven areas of your life: your health, finances, career, relationships, spirituality, contribution and fun time. Rating each area on a scale of 1 to 10 helps you assess whether you have poor or excellent results in each area, with 1 being poor and 10 being excellent. For example, if your result related to your career is 3/10, it is an area of your life you need to start working on improving. In the areas where you experience poor results, what would you love for these areas to be 10/10?  Another process is to focus on the most challenging area of your life. For instance, let us take your health. If your result in that area is 3/10, what would make it a 10? In other words, what are the small and significant improvements you need to make each day to improve your health and shift from 3/10 to 10/10? It is the significant daily improvements that will make a difference. Regarding your health, the small and significant improvements could be looking at improving your diet, observing how your body responds to certain foods, balancing your energy, allowing some quality rest time, checking your level of fitness, and seeking the help of a personal trainer to improve your flexibility, strength and fitness. Taking the stairs instead of the escalator, cycling or walking instead of driving your car all the time, etc. Now that you have a specific area of your life you desire to improve, let us do a future pace visioning exercise. Let us say that your dream is to improve your health because it is a challenging area. Imagine a future version of yourself projecting into the future, one year from now, who has already accomplished your ideal state of health.  What do you see? How do you feel? Ask your future self: “What did I do to get healthy?”  Living your ideal life by improving the quality of your life is a choice. Living this way means not sticking to the status quo and being willing to do whatever it takes to make your dreams come true. There is no quick fix. With determination and perseverance, you can achieve your goals. Wayne Dyer said that many individuals die with their music still in them. The main reason is that they have not acted on their dreams. If you have given up on your dreams, it is ok to start again. Make a fresh start and fulfil your ideal life! It is time to move into action, and if you need help with starting again,  email support@pascalegibon.com with the subject line: “Make a Fresh Start.” We will send you the access link to the “Make a Fresh Start” video training, where I take you through the 5-step framework to move smoothly towards your desired goal for a brand new beginning.  Living your life in alignment with your authentic values and passions is so fulfilling. Our longing for greater freedom is natural. Build your dream from now on, set yourself free by harnessing your creative power to design the life you dream of, love your life and find purpose and fulfilment. Here is a summary of the key points discussed in this episode: Honour your dreams for fulfilment You can bridge the gap and achieve your dreams by overcoming the obstacles in your way.  Visualise what you desire your dream life to be by following the rating process and future pace visioning process. Summary Dr. Ali Novitsky, obesity medicine doctor and fitness expert, shares a comprehensive synopsis of the latest episode on Muscles and Mindset. The episode explores the intricate dynamics of mismatched energetic vibrations and their profound impact on relationships. The discussion commences by revisiting the fundamental concept of energetic health previously covered in episode 180. Dr. Ali delves into the realm of vibrational energy, unveiling the significance of mismatched energy and its far-reaching consequences for personal growth and relationships. Personal anecdotes, including reflections on Dr. Ali's marriage, are shared to exemplify how mismatched energy manifests in diverse relationships. A key observation highlighted is the tendency for individuals with a growth mindset and high vibrational energy to inadvertently lower their own energy by over-functioning for others. A central theme of the episode emphasizes the pivotal role of open communication and boundary-setting in addressing mismatched energy within relationships. Strategic approaches to realign energies, such as seeking assistance, fostering trust, and relinquishing control, are discussed. Various relationship dynamics, spanning from parent-child relationships to workplace friendships, are explored, stressing the importance of creating space for others while honoring their autonomy and boundaries. A substantial segment of the episode focuses on self-relationship dynamics, elucidating how internal roles and responsibilities can contribute to mismatched energy. Listeners are encouraged to introspect on their roles, pinpoint areas of low vibrational energy, and contemplate growth opportunities to bolster overall equilibrium. Dr. Ali also highlights the upcoming Miroval Berkshires retreat, offering a platform for participants to engage in discussions encompassing optimal health, hormone balance, self-compassion, and emotional well-being. The retreat is presented as a transformative experience for individuals seeking to harmonize their energies and uplift their holistic well-being. In conclusion, the episode delves deep into recognizing and navigating mismatched energetic vibrations in relationships, promoting personal development, and attaining a harmonious balance across all spheres of life. Listeners are invited to tune in for profound insights into the influence of energy on connections and well-being. Stay tuned for the next enlightening episode!   Takeaways Mismatched energetic vibration can occur when one person's vibrational energy is significantly higher or lower than another's. Communication, setting boundaries, and asking for help are important for realigning energetic vibes in relationships. Mismatched energy can also occur within oneself, when different roles or areas of life have different vibrational energies. Enhancing vibrational energy and finding balance can help reduce mismatched energy and create a more harmonious life.   Timestamp Chapters 00:00:00 - Introduction to Energetic Health: Dr. Ali Novitsky introduces the concept of energetic health and sets the stage for the discussion on mismatched energetic vibrations. 00:05:30 - Personal Example of Mismatched Energy in a Relationship: Dr. Ali shares a personal story about how mismatched energy affected her marriage and the importance of communication and realignment. 00:07:30 - Addressing Mismatched Energy in Family Dynamics: The discussion shifts to how mismatched energy can impact parent-child relationships and the importance of holding space and understanding individual vibes. 00:09:50 - Navigating Mismatched Energy in Work Relationships: Dr. Ali explores the complexities of dealing with mismatched energy in work relationships and the balance between holding space and trying to fix the situation. 00:14:26 - Handling Mismatched Energy in Long-Term Relationships: The focus turns to navigating mismatched energy in long-term relationships and the importance of communication, space, and self-reflection. 00:17:07 - Self-Reflection on Mismatched Energy within Oneself: Dr. Ali discusses the significance of recognizing and addressing mismatched energy within oneself across different roles and the importance of enhancing vibrational energy for clarity. 00:19:50 - Upcoming Miraval Berkshires Retreat: Dr. Ali promotes the upcoming retreat focusing on optimal health and directs listeners to the website for more information.   Resources Mentioned Episode 180: Energetic Health. In this episode, I explore the concept of "who not how" and how it can help nurses achieve their goals. Instead of focusing on how to achieve a goal, it is more effective to find the right person or resource to help you reach that goal. I'm sharing my examples and stories to illustrate the power of finding the right "who" and leveraging their expertise. This concept is inspired by the book "Who Not How?" by Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan. The book's central idea is finding the right individuals to help you reach your goals. Once you find the right "who" – a mentor, coach, or colleague – they can guide you, provide accountability, and help you uncover the "how".Focusing less on the "how" and more on the "who" can be a game-changer in achieving goals, especially for nurses. It helps us leverage collective expertise, regulate our mindset, and accelerate our progress. So, as you set your sights on your goals for 2024, consider looking for your "who" to help uncover the "how".Key takeaways:03:30 The Book "Who Not How" by Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan04:38 Using the "Who Not How" Mindset in a Leadership Role08:26 Impact of Disconnection in the Nursing Community10:49 Achieving Goals through Neuroplasticity and Accountability12:07 The Importance of Finding the Right Support in Nursing14:46 Leveraging Collective Expertise to Achieve Nursing Goals22:47 Holding Yourself Accountable and Having a Future-Focused Vision in Nursing24:22 Success Story of Helping a Nurse Transition to a Work-From-Home Position26:00 Leveraging Someone's Expertise to Save Time and Achieve Goals28:56 Personal Example of Leveraging Someone's Expertise to Save Time29:57 Importance of Finding the Right "Who" in Nursing Careers and Leadership5 Ways we can support you in your nursing career ✅Join our Free Nurse Career Growth Hub and access our free nursing application, interview and career growth guides here!Join our Nurse Career Academy and work with us to help guarantee your next nursing role!Book a free Career Clarity Call with Liam to discuss your career situation!Join our private FB community to surround yourself with like minded nurses!Check out our Youtube Channel for more nurse career support!

It's a wrap! The Spotify variety, if you know what I mean... This year I thought it would be fun to do a live "unwrapping" of the Podcasters Wrapped, which provides fun information and insights about your podcast (those that use Spotify are oh so familiar with this fun annual event!). I found it amazing and hysterical that The Red Light Report community has nearly identical tastes to me, both in regards to  top podcast genres listened to and top music genres listened to. I have no doubt we could all get along!   On a more mitochondrial note, I found a highly interesting research article on methylene blue and its potential as an anti-aging drug. To a large degree, this should come as no surprise given methylene blue's immense and dynamic impact on the mitochondria and, as we all know, the inherent tie our mitochondria's health and function has on our overall welling and lifespan. The review discusses the anti-aging effects of MB with a focus on the relationship between mitochondrial dysfunction and aging. The article did a fantastic job of verifying this by looking at the profound role "the blue" can play on the aging brain, particularly those neurodegenerative conditions we associate with our latter years -- Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. From the article: "Since MB is an FDA-approved medicine with a long history, the safety of MB usage has been thoroughly evaluated. The exploration of MB utilization in aging-related conditions can help us understand the aging process. Derivatives of MB can also be developed to improve its effects."Could methylene blue be one of the most effective (while still being incredibly safe) anti-aging drugs known to mankind? The jury is out, but the current data is quite strong. This is the power of personal example, or the core of personal evangelism. Our lifestyles are to shine with good works toward God and others. Personal evangelism is built on relationships. To notice your light, people must get to know you. The first step is opening friendships and building credibility. With Christ in us, many of the unconverted can ultimately be inspired to want a change in their lives in time.

To Love Jesus is to Know Him John 21:3-17 (NLT) A Stand Alone Message | Mick Veach | lead pastor | first aired on 09.12.2021 Introduction Read Scripture 3 Simon Peter said, “I'm going fishing.” “We'll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. 4 At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn't see who he was. 5 He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. 6 Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you'll get some!” So they did, and they couldn't haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. 7 Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It's the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. 8 The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards from shore. 9 When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread. 10 “Bring some of the fish you've just caught,” Jesus said. 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn't torn. 12 “Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. 14 This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead. 15 After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him. 16 Jesus repeated the question: “Simon son of John, do you love me?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter said, “you know I love you.” “Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said. 17 A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep. —John 21:3-17 1) The million - dollar question is; do you love Jesus? Do you know how to love Jesus? 2) Luke 10:27 — We are commanded to love the Lord with all our heart and with all our soul, with all our strength and with all our mind and to love our neighbor as we love our self. 3) Our mission statement at KCC is to Know Him and to Make Him Known a. It is important to note that loving others comes from our own intimacy with Jesus H. Loving others does not mean i. To be emotionally beat up ii. To be mistreated over and over again I. Loving others is the supernatural ability to pray for those who are your enemies and ask God to work in their life i. Stephen did in Acts 7 and he learned it from Jesus ii. How to be the changeCurrent EDI efforts in sports:  (00:30)MLSE's EDI Commitment (1)My opinion: PR statements are great - I wish they outlined each of their commitments What do we do? Re-post and go on with our day - Takeaway: This is not enough Point: (05:56)Awareness does not equal change. Awareness promotes action and action leads to change. Sports analogy: the kid that gets cut every year at tryouts but comes back every season When will it be the year? When that kid takes the next step to push themselves to another level by changing his/her strategy Changing your perception of your role in a situation/environment provides the opportunity to work smarterWhy am I talking about this? We need to stray away from circular conversations Hope helps to inspire people and bring issues to light To take the next step we need to leap My first step is with this podcast - striving to get my generation not only talking about change but taking actionWhat does it mean to work smarter?Ability to adapt to a situation and put the most effective resources to use Get out of the “one size fits all” mentality - every situation is different Application to Sports: USTA (US Tennis Association) “Embrace All” campaign (2) (11:15)Relevance: It's easy to identity issues what's hard is holding ourselves accountable to change Why I love this campaign: The mission is hard-hitting, purposeful and intentional So what's the solution/how do we be the change? We lead by example and others will follow How do we get there? Become the best version of yourself! Becoming the best version of yourself (16:40)Point: To become the best version of yourself and reach your full potential you need to focus on growing each and every day.  Figure out who you want to become and earn it Set reasonable, achievable, and challenging goals - expand your personal bubble Develop the small habits to become this person Set yourself up for success with the right mindset Accept your current situation and understand your worth - you deserve a better life for yourself Hold yourself accountable - find your inspiration Personal Example: (20:25)I developed a “Watch Me” mentality as I heard stories of others being turned away. As I saw no one who looked like me achieve what I strived to. How? I focused on what I had to offer and made it abundantly clear that I had value to add Don't just tell them… Show them! - actions speak louder than wordsRelevance: People will want to hop on your grind When others see what's possible, their dreams now become more achievable in their mindsRelationship to Sports: Change comes with the right leadership Example with the Toronto Raptors and how Kawhi Leonard led by example and lead to the Raptors Championship 2019 winSummary of points: (24:50)We can do more than share a post on our stories. We can walk the walk and go the extra mile by leading by example rather than waiting for change. We lead by example by developing a growth mindset to become the best versions of ourselves. We then develop small habits which over time transform us.

It sent me on this, unexpected, journey of wanting to hear stories of partnerships. And where better to start than HOME!!! I am fortunate enough to be blessed with, what I believe, a true example of what partners are. This is my first podcast with the parentales. And as thoroughly entertained and informed as I was, and ALWAYS AM by these two, I guarantee you, it won't be my last. They have a lot of positive energy to give to this world and, with their permission of course, from time to time, I would LOVE to be their vessel to share it.

Stories of Hope in Hard Times

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 16, 2020 22:21

In today's episode I share the story of the Salmon who migrate through the Ballard Locks with how we navigate around the obstacles in our lives. How to Navigate the Coronavirus/Change with HopeThe Story of the SalmonIf you were a Salmon coming in from the Pacific ocean north of Seattle, Washington in the United States with the goal of spawning somewhere in the tributaries of Lake Washington, you would come into the Puget Sound, go into Shilshole Bay and continue up until you were stopped by a Dam. Now this dam is no ordinary dam. It separates the 20 foot above sea level freshwater of the Lakes from the salt water of the Pacific. Just like a dam stops the progression of water--it also halts the progress of the salmon and the boats. Unfortunately Sea Lions also know that the Salmon will be stopped here, and love feasting at this stopping point. Now, if you were a Salmon you might be thinking, What the heck! What happened to my goal to swim upriver and spawn. How do I get upriver when I am stopped by a dam and hunted by predators? I'm going to pause there and step back from this story and continue it in just a little bit. Navigating ChangeSo, what do you do when you hit a change--something that stops you--something that stops your progress? That is a hard feeling to have the rug pulled out from under you. There is nothing more frustrating than having your progress completely stopped. Many people felt this frustration when countries locked down during the Coronavirus outbreak. It was hard to have our progress--our normal lives--stopped, halted, or damned. Most experienced a decrease in bope. It think it is important to understand the concept of hope and what helps us have hope, so that when our progress is stopped or our normal is changed, you know how to pivot. Having Hope During ChangeOn last week's episode, Dr. Benjamin Hardy and I talked about hope. One of the quotes I read from his book was, (https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/607021/personality-isnt-permanent-by-benjamin-hardy-phd/) , is “Research shows you cannot have hope without a goal.” Now, you might be thinking--"Tamara, that is crazy! Goals aren't connected to hope." But, the more I have studied hope, the more I have realized goals or how we envision the future has everything to do hope! If I were to ask you, "What changed in your future because the world shut down with the Coronavirus?" I bet you could tell me what changed or didn't happen in your life. Personal Example of Dashed HopesFor me and my family, we missed going on choir tour to California. Choir concerts were cancelled, piano and voice lessons were cancelled. School was cancelled. Heck--going to the store normally was changed. Our Spring Break trip to Yosemite and the Giant Sequoias was cancelled. I had hoped to go to Disneyland for my birthday in May--but it never happened. What happened to hope? It decreased because our family couldn't envision the future. It had changed. Life stopped. And it felt frustrating. People were clamoring trying to figure out how to solve problems and keep moving. How the Salmon Navigate Their ObstacleLet's go back to my story of the Salmon. They have come as far as they can go up the waterway and are stopped by the dam. But this is no ordinary dam. This is the Ballard Locks. The Ballard Locks and the Fish LadderNow, as the fish swim backwards and forwards trying to find a way through the dam, they'll catch the scent of fresh water, because they're drawn to it. Salmon have a very good sense of smell. And by following this fresh water scent, it requires them to go a different or perhaps a more difficult route up a series of what they call weirs--picture a giant water staircase. The Salmon press forward, propelling their bodies up and out of the water to jump to the next level 21 times before they reach the freshwater and can continue their journey. So my family and I had the privilege of visiting...

I. What Makes a Great Evangelist? Please take your Bibles and open to 1 Corinthians Chapter 9. We'll be looking this morning at verses 15-23. We will deal with verse 24 through 27 more next time. This morning, we're going to, in looking at these verses, sit at the feet of the greatest evangelist in church history, and we're going to learn from him. What is a great evangelist? What makes someone a great evangelist? I have loved studying church history. It's a joy and a pleasure of mine to read of the great men and women of God who have gone before us and have fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith, and who were active in sharing the Gospel so that the Gospel could make progress from that Upper Room in Jerusalem through Judea and Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the earth. And what a glorious, what an amazing journey that's been as evangelist missionaries have taken the Gospel and at great personal cost, have suffered so that others might hear and believe. I love studying about great evangelists. One of the greatest evangelists, one of my favorite, I've a picture of him up on the wall of my office, is George Whitfield. In that picture, he's up on a barrel and he's preaching the Gospel in a crowded market square, and there's all kinds of chaos and mayhem going on around him, someone blowing a trumpet in his ear, other people yelling at him, others falling down clearly yielding to the message of the Gospel. And this man did this for decades, preaching the Gospel thousands of times to 10 million people in the colonial era before the American Revolution, crossed the Atlantic Ocean 13 times in a sailing vessel and preached to huge crowds. But he also made a commitment to personal evangelism, not just preaching in crowds, but personal evangelism. He said, "God forbid that I should travel one quarter of an hour with another person without talking to him about Christ." I think about that every time I get on an airplane. God forbid that I should travel with this individual and not say something about Christ. Or D. L. Moody, who lived later, at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century, one of the greatest evangelists, set up revival meetings all over, spoke to even more people, because the population of the world was greater. And his expanse, his travels were greater than George Whitfield's, but D. L. Moody, a great evangelist. And he made a personal commitment to never go to bed everyday without sharing Christ with someone, talking to somebody about Christ. Many times he had forgotten. He was just about to go to sleep, and the Holy Spirit would wake him up and get him up out of bed, and he'd go out into the street and try to find somebody to share it with. Another evangelist I knew very little about was a Chinese evangelist, named John Sung, who lived in the beginning of the 20th century, who was a brilliant man, who got multiple degrees in a short amount of time, but he was being schooled theologically at Union Theological Seminary, which at the time was theologically liberal and he had no clear proclamation of the Gospel. But at that point he was converted, an evangelist reached him, and he was converted to his sound faith in Christ and became ardent for the Gospel. So ardent that the people at Union Seminary locked him up, because they thought he had gone insane. And so, he was in prison or in somewhat of a lock-up, he did not have the freedom to leave, and he made the most of that time. He read in that brief period of time, read through the entire Bible over 40 times. God was preparing him for an incredibly fruitful ministry as an evangelist in China, and from 1927 until he died of tuberculosis in 1944, he preached the Gospel in China and led over 200,000 Chinese people to faith in Christ. Again, in our lifetime, Billy Graham, who died last year, probably spoke to more people in history face-to-face of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It's hard to even measure how many people heard Billy Graham preach the Gospel and saw him preach face-to-face, not to mention those that saw him on television, or heard him on radio. It's hard to even measure the impact. How many people he brought to Christ, that then brought other people to Christ? Would be, to some degree, a Billy Graham spiritual grandchildren, through that legacy. It's impossible to measure. All of these are great, great evangelists, but there are also some unsung heroes in the history of evangelism. John Bunyan is not one of those unsung heroes. He wrote Pilgrim's Progress and many know about him. But we've been talking recently, Philip and I, he's been reading about John Bunyan's life, and how he was brought to faith in Christ and he was a tinker who went from house to house, to repair pots and pans and sharpen knives, and he was not a believer. But at that point he called himself a brisk talker in religion, and he was there in a kitchen and he overheard some women, three women who did not know he was listening, or anything about his spiritual condition, but they were, as some have said before, gossiping the Gospel. They spoke, Bunyan said, in Grace Abounding, his own personal testimony, "They spoke," it said, "as if joy did make their heart speak, and they spoke of lofty things," he said, "that I knew nothing about. Of the glory of God and the redemption of sinners, through faith in Jesus Christ." These women didn't even know they were evangelizing. You never know who's listening to you. Why spend the time complaining about the high price of eggs in the market, when you could be speaking about the glory of God and saving a sinner like you or like me. Because you just don't know. And those women, who... Well, we don't know their names even, but they could have no way of knowing what John Bunyan, who was overhearing them at the time, would go on to do, and how many people for centuries would be influenced by his ministry, through Pilgrim's Progress. All of those are great evangelists but I think all of them would say if asked, if they had the chance to ask, "How do you compare to the Apostle Paul?" They would have to say, "Honestly, I can't even carry his shoes." That the Apostle Paul really is the greatest evangelist that the church history has ever known. And so, we're going to sit at his feet. But before we do, I winna just go through varieties of scriptures in the New Testament, and pull out some principles of what made the Apostle Paul a great evangelist, so that we can learn from him. Because I'll tell you this, the elders of our church, the leaders of our church, spiritual leaders of our church, we yearn to see FBC come into a whole new level of faithfulness and evangelism. As a matter of fact, I would have to say, I don't want to be too bold or go beyond the elders, but I think they would agree that if there could be one radical transformation improvement in the life of the church, it would be in this. That we would see more and more people baptized here in the Triangle region as a result of the ministry of people in the church. And that's our desire. What Made Paul Such a Great Evangelist? Let's learn some principles, and then, we'll look at the text that we're looking at today. Heavenly Message First of all, the Apostle Paul is a great evangelist because he had a message from heaven. He believed the Gospel came from heaven and he heard it directly from heaven. It was not ministered to him or mediated to him by any man, so he was uniquely set apart to hear the Gospel directly from God. Now, that Gospel message, he is super clear about. He writes about it later in the book we're studying. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, he said, "For what I received, I also passed on to you, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." That's the Gospel. It came from the Scripture, from the Old Testament prophecies, and I received it and I passed it on to you." Or, as he said earlier in this book, 1 Corinthians 2:2, "I resolved to know nothing while I was with you, except Jesus Christ and him crucified." He was very clear about this message. This message is the power of God for the salvation of sinners all over the world, and he received it not as a word of man, but as it actually is, the word of God come from Heaven. Compelling Motive Secondly, he had compelling motives to evangelize. No chapter lays these motives out more plainly than 2 Corinthians 5, and I'm not going to walk through it, but in 2 Corinthians 5, he was very clear why he should be evangelizing. There are a lot of motives there, but there's some clear motive that he had in 2 Corinthians 5:9-10, it says, "So we make it our goal to please Him, whether at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one of us may receive what is due Him for the things done in the body, whether good or bad." Putting that together, Paul's motive for everything was to please Christ. "Everything I do, I want to please Him, and I know that some day I'm going to have to give an account for my life, for everything I've done in my body whether good or bad, I'm going to have to talk to Jesus about it." Divine Calling (On the Road to Damascus) Thirdly, he had a divine calling to evangelism and the missions. He was called by Almighty God to this. On the road to Damascus, the Lord Jesus appeared to him in radiant glory while he was breathing out murderous threats and he was struck to the ground by the glory of the resurrected Christ, and he heard the voice from Heaven saying, "'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?' 'Who are you, Lord?' Saul asked. 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,' he replied. 'Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.'" Now that... Keep that in mind because that's going to be relevant to the way he phrases some things in the text we're looking at today. I'll just tell you what it is. He said, "I have no choice but to preach the Gospel." And he got that calling directly from God, through Christ, a heavenly calling. And so, Ananias who was sent to lay hands on him and heal his blindness and also who baptized him in water did not want to go. Ananias did not want to go. But God persuaded him and he said, "Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name." Divine calling. Great Boldness Fourthly, great boldness. Paul was an effective evangelist because he was supernaturally bold. He just lived out that statement in the Psalms, "What can man do to me?" He just seemed to be completely supernaturally bold. He said, "I am not ashamed of the Gospel." He prayed, he asked for prayer from the Ephesians that he would have boldness. He didn't just lean on his own boldness tendencies or credentials or patterns, he asked that they would pray that he would be bold, but he was bold. The consummation that was the very end of his life, as he was on trial for his life before the megalomaniac tyrant of the world, Caesar Nero, and he shared the Gospel with Nero. Wouldn't you have loved to have been there to see that? "Nero, unless you repent, you will be condemned, but God sent His Son to deliver you from hell. All you need to do is trust in Him and you will be saved from your sins." He says very plainly in 2 Timothy 4. Paul said that the Gospel was fully proclaimed in front of Caesar. And he was on trial for his life. That meant nothing to him. What matters is, this is the chance to preach the Gospel to Caesar, probably the only one I'm going to get. And he did it alone. Power of the Holy Spirit Fifth, the power of the Holy Spirit. Paul was an effective evangelist because he relied every moment on the power of the Holy Spirit. He says in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, "My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, polished rhetoric but with the demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on man's wisdom but on God's power." Paul put the Holy Spirit on display every time he preached. And it wasn't because he didn't apparently seem afraid or... No, he was with them in weakness and fear and trembling, but the Holy Spirit used him and people were converted. That's the power of the Holy Spirit. Clear Strategy Sixth, he had a clear strategy, he knew exactly how to go about his work. And what he would do, he had a slogan, but it was more than just a slogan, "To the Jew first. And also to the gentile." What he would do is, in every community, by this time, the dispersion of the Jews all over the Greco-Roman world had happened. And for the most part, in every place where he would go, he would go first to the Jewish synagogue, and he would reason with the Jews based on the Old Testament Scriptures. And some of them would be persuaded and would join him as fellow laborers, and then he would go into the marketplace and reason day by day with the Greeks that happened to be there. He had a clear strategy, knew exactly what he was doing. Love for People Seventh, he had an overwhelming love for people, he loved people. 2 Corinthians 5:14, "For the love of Christ compels us." He was constrained. He was hemmed in by the love of Christ. And there are different ways of looking at the phrase, "love of Christ," but I think we are safe in saying that the love that Christ has for lost sinners constrained Paul. And you see that very, very plainly in Paul's attitude toward the Jews, who had yet to believe, the unbelieving Jews. In Romans 9, he said, "I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers." Basically, "I'd be willing if I could, to trade my salvation for theirs." That's love for people. If I can just... Could it be that we don't evangelize as much as we should because we don't love people as much as we should, that we don't have a compelling love for people? And here's the thing, if you don't, just be honest about it to God and give it up to Him in prayer, and say, "I just don't love lost people the way I should. Would you please change me? I pray that three years from now, five years from now, I would love lost people, evidently love them more than I do today." That's a spiritual beggar. But Paul had a love for lost people. Single-Minded Zeal Eighth, he had a single-minded zeal, almost immeasurable zeal. It's quite remarkable. He said to the Ephesian elders in Acts 20, "I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me, the task of testifying to the Gospel of God's grace." He knew what he was about, and his fire, his zeal, was like a fire burning inside of him. That's just the way he was. And the Lord kept that fire burning. He had a zeal for this and you see it when he was stoned and left for dead outside of the city in Antioch, in the Book of Acts. And all the disciples gathered around him and he came up out of the stones. I don't know if God raised him from the dead or he just got up. But he and Barnabas went that day to Derby and he preached in Derby the next day. I'd want a break, and I'm thinking everyone around me would think, "You need a break. Why don't you go for a break, alright?" Paul just got up and kept preaching. There was an incredible zeal in his heart. Willingness to Sacrifice Everything to Win the Lost And the ninth, and this transitions into the text we're going to look at today, he was willing to sacrifice personal preferences, the things he wanted to do with his life, the things he liked or didn't like. He was willing to sacrifice all of that to win lost people. And so, that brings us to what we're talking about today. He was willing to become all things to all people, so that by all possible means, he might save some. II. Context: Love Limits Liberty Now, let's set this again in context. I always want to see the context here. Paul is addressing in 1 Corinthians 8-10, the problem that the Corinthians were having there in their pagan setting with meat sacrifice to idols. Chapter 8, verse 1, he says, "Now, about meat sacrifice to idols…" And you're going to go on for three chapters about this. This is in a big setting, three chapters on the topic of meat sacrifice to idols. And Paul had preached the truth that there is only one God, the Creator of the ends of the earth, all the other gods of the nations are not Gods at all, the idols are nothing, they don't represent any spiritual reality, they are nothing. And that meat is just meat. You can eat anything. Jesus had declared all foods clean. That's the truth that he laid out. And some of the Corinthians had imbibed that truth, they understood it. Set free, they were able to do whatever they wanted with meat sacrifice to the idols there in the Pagan temples, and they were flaunting their freedoms in ways that were hurting weaker people who hadn't reached that point of maturity yet. And so, Paul is writing to them within the church, giving them the basic prints you are going to see again and again, and we're going to use it again today. Love limits liberty. There's a limit to our personal freedoms and our personal rights and what we get to do. We're going to limit our liberties for the sake of other people. We're going to think horizontally about how this will affect other people. And so, that's where he's at. And so, he uses himself as a personal example. And we saw the first person example last week, remember? He talks about how it is right for those who preach the Gospel to make their living from the Gospel. And he gives five reasons why churches should support their pastors, financially support them, and he lays all that out. I'm not going to walk through that again, but he has been very, very clear, multiple reasons why the churches that Paul had planted should step up and take responsibility to pay for those who preach the Gospel, pay financially. Paul’s Personal Example #1: The Right to Be Financially Supported through the Church But Paul is just setting that up, he actually isn't really doing that for that main reason, to lay out reasons. And so, he says that in verse 15, look at it. He said, "But I have not used any of these rights." "I didn't use my freedom. I didn't use my right to earn money in preaching the gospel, and I am not writing this now in the hope that you will do such things for me. That's not why I'm writing these words. I'm giving you an illustration of the principle that I'm limiting my freedoms and my rights for your sake." And so, he had voluntarily given this up. Now, he established that the other apostles didn't do this. And the other apostles were supported financially. Peter was. This was the common practice. This was the ordinary practice, but he did this voluntarily. He was under no compulsion here, it was just something he chose to do. He gave up the right to get money for preaching the Gospel. For him, it was a point of honor. You could look at it this way. He uses boasting language. Paul does this a lot, but he says, "This is my boast." This is actually, if you could think of it this way, "This is the gift that I'm specially giving to Jesus in my ministry. I get to look at the people I'm preaching to, I get to look them in the eye and show very plainly, I am no religious huckster. I'm not in it for the money. There's no fraud going on here. I don't get any money for preaching the Gospel. I work hard with my own hands, late at night making tents to supply my needs and the needs of my companions, and none of you supported me. And this is what I've chosen to do. My preaching of the gospel is in a different category. I have no choice but to do that." Look at his language, verse 16 and 17, "When I preach the Gospel, I cannot boast for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel. If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward, but if not voluntarily, then I'm simply discharging the trust entrusted to me." Here's how I understand those words. You could well imagine that Paul effectively heard from Jesus on the road to Damascus, "You are a dead man, but I'm not going to kill you. I'm going to use the rest of your life as I see fit. Do you understand?" "Yes, Lord." "Now get up and go into the city and you'll be told what you must do. You understand the words 'must do'?" "Yes, Lord." That lines up with his attitude here, he says, "Woe to me if I stop preaching." Woe will happen to me. That's a prophetic word of judgment. I will be prophetically judged by God if I stop preaching the Gospel. There's some precedent here. Remember Jonah? Remember how God gave him a calling to be a prophet? How did he feel about that? Not thrilled. "I want you to go to your bitter national enemies, the Assyrians, and I want you to preach to them. Otherwise, I might destroy them." He's like, "I'm all in, Lord. Destroy them." Don't think for a minute Jonah was afraid to preach, he had stage fright or hated public speaking. It had nothing to do with that. And he wasn't even afraid of what the Assyrians would do, I think he would have preferred they slaughtered him, rather than God save the Ninevites. What did he do? He ran. He did not preach. You don't run from God. "Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?" If I go to the far side of the earth, you're there. Well, Jonah tried to do it and God was there, and he actually didn't even reach that far into the Mediterranean, but God sent a storm. God controlled a lot, he controlled the sailors, he controlled the big fish, he controls everything. And next thing there, Jonah is in downtown Nineveh preaching the message. To all of the future would be prophets that God calls, do what he tells you to do. You have no choice. Or again, take Jeremiah. Jeremiah had a similar experience, Jeremiah was called into the hardest ministry there was in the Old Testament. I've thought about this, I think Jeremiah had the hardest ministry. "Jeremiah, I'm going to send you to a people, your own people, who will not listen to you. And when you're done preaching, the Babylonians will come and destroy almost everyone." Wow, what a message. And it was very unpopular, as God knew it would be. And so, in Jeremiah 20:7-9, Jeremiah says this, "O Lord, you deceived me and I was deceived." Now, stop right there. You don't say that to God. "Lord, you tricked me. You deceived me, getting me into this ministry. You overpowered me and prevailed. You're stronger than I, what could I do? I am ridiculed all day long. Everyone mocks me and the word of the Lord has brought me insult and reproach all day long." You would imagine then, it's like, "I'm not preaching anymore. I'm not doing this." And he tried, but listen to this, "But if I say 'I will not mention him or speak anymore in his name,' his word in my heart is like a fire, like a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in. Indeed, I cannot." I think that's somewhat like what Paul is saying, "I can't stop preaching the gospel." Paul is saying, effectively, "My boast in my service, O Lord, is not that. The Lord is powerful on me and I can't stop, but this is something I have voluntarily, a free will offering I have offered to God, that I preach without charge. It's just something I give." Look at verse 18, "What then is my reward? Just this, that in preaching the Gospel, I may offer it free of charge and so, not make use of my rights in preaching it." The basic principle is love limits liberty. He was willing to limit his rights and privileges and freedoms for the sake of first: The church. Horizontally, the other believers. Now, we're going to turn, and he said, "I also am doing it for the lost. I'll limit my liberties and I'll limit my freedoms for the sake of those who are not yet converted, for the lost." And that's what he's talking about here. Paul enslaved himself to someone to win some to Christ. In 1520, Martin Luther, based on this very text we're looking at today, wrote one of his most famous treatises, and that is on the freedom of a Christian. And he had two basic premises. Listen to them, and I can unfold them from Luther, but there they're just as powerful, and they come from this text. First of all, thesis number one: A Christian is a perfectly free, Lord of all, subject to none. Number two: A Christian is a perfectly dutiful slave subject to everyone. It's really a fascinating argument, and he talks about the freedom of the gospel. And then, yet, to everyone else around, we are enslaved, voluntarily enslaved for their good. And that's how Luther argues. III. Paul Enslaved Himself to Everyone to Win Some to Christ And that's what Paul argues here, too. Look at verse 19, "Though I am free and belong to no one, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible." Paul is free, he's saying, "I don't owe anyone anything." Even if he were imprisoned as he was again and again, his heart was free in Christ. The Son had set him free. He was truly free, free indeed. He was a free man. He was free from sin, he was free from death, he was free from human tribunals. He actually says in another place, "I care very little what any human tribunal says about me. Doesn't matter to me what judgments you make. My conscience is captive to Christ." He's free, free, free. He's a free man. He's under no obligation to do anything, when it came to eating or drinking or clothing, what he did with his time, whether or not to get married, where to live, what things he enjoyed, that he was just a free man. But he voluntarily restricted those kinds of freedoms to win as many souls as possible to Christ, to gain them. Now, he uses a business term here, like an accounting term. This is effectively the profit, talk about profits and losses. This is the profit to my business. Souls one, eternally one, for Christ. This is what I'm trying to gain in our business. Paul's business was not tent making and he was trying to turn a profit. Paul's business was the spreading of the Gospel and the gain, the profit he's looking for, was lost people coming to faith in Christ, being rescued from the dominion of darkness. And so, this is yet another example of the principle we've been learning: Love limits liberty. He begins talking about the Jews. Look at verse 20, "To the Jews, I became like a Jew to win the Jews. To those under the law, I became like one under the law, though I am not myself under the law." He says this plainly in Romans 7 that we are not under law, but under grace. We're set free from the ceremonial Law of Moses. We're not under law. So as to win those under the law, Paul was raised, as we know, in the strictest sect of Judaism. He was a Pharisee of Pharisees. He knew the minutia of the Law of Moses very, very clearly. But he also understood that in Christ, the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility that the ceremonial law had set up, such as circumcision, the dietary regulations, kosher foods, the things that the Jewish men did with their beards and their hair, and their clothing, that they would not wear certain types of clothing with different fibers woven together. And all of those laws that the Lord said made the Jews a peculiar or special people, those things had been fulfilled in Jesus. The time for that was done, the Messiah had come. He'd been identified as a Jewish man, salvation had come from the Jews. We knew what that meant by these laws, but now they've been abolished, they've been fulfilled, they're obsolete. And so, Paul says, "Look, I'm not under that law anymore. I'm done with that. I can do whatever I want with my beard and my hair, whatever style hits me, alright? I can do it. I'm free, okay. I can wear any clothing I want within reason. Anyway, I can wear anything I want, anything that I would like to wear, I can wear it. I'm free. When it comes to food, I can eat what I choose to eat, anything. But if I'm trying to win some Jews, unbelieving Jews, to faith in the Messiah, I will put all of those freedoms aside to win them. When I go to their home, and they're serving kosher, I will eat their food. If I'm having them over, I will serve kosher to them. Even though we're set free from it, I'm going to fit into their world. If it's a Sabbath, I'm going to follow the rituals of the Sabbath, even though the law, the ceremonial law has been fulfilled. We don't have to do all those Jewish rituals anymore. I will fit into that Sabbath pattern, like I did when I was growing up. When I visit the synagogue, I'm going to follow the rules of the synagogue in there. I'm going to do the things they do." And this is the approach he consistently followed when seeking to reach the Jews. Just like in Acts 15 where the Jerusalem council decided that the converts, the gentile convert, did not need to become Jews to be saved, they didn't have to be circumcised and required to obey the Law of Moses, but there were some regulations given to the gentile converts, so they would not offend the Jews, like, don't eat meats with blood still in it and don't need strangled animals, and other things like that. Well, you can eat anything, all foods are clean, but that's especially offensive to Jews, so don't do that. And that's why he also took Timothy and circumcised him. It's a very interesting thing that he did, because he argues vigorously that you don't have to be circumcised to be saved, and he wasn't contradicting that. But Timothy had a Jewish mother and grandmother, but a gentile father who had never been circumcised. And so, he wanted Timothy to have a wide range of freedom of ministry and had him do that, so as not to offend the Jews, but not for salvation. He also took a Nazarite vow, Paul did. And he followed all the Jewish regulations and paid for others to have the Nazirite vows fulfilled as well. That's what he means. Now, this did not mean compromising any moral law. He not saying that. "Well, now, I can commit adultery as much as I want or I can murder as much." No, those are timeless regulations the Holy Spirit fulfils in us. He's talking about the ceremonial laws and personal preferences in terms of food, clothing, and lifestyle. That's what he was talking about. And so, he became like a Jew to win the Jews. Becoming Like a Gentile to Win the Gentiles Then, he turns it around. He says in verse 21 and 22, "To those not having the law, [that's gentiles] I became like one not having the law, though I myself am not free from God's law, but I'm under Christ's law." So as to win those not having the law. When he's in the home of a gentile family, if they serve pork, he ate it. What if he hated it? What if he was like, "I hate pork." Paul would say, "I don't care." Of himself, he said, "I don't care whether I hate it or not, I'm going to eat it. I'm not bringing my own kosher lunch, alright. I'm going to eat whatever they serve without raising any questions about it. I'm just going to eat it." Remember how the apostle Peter was the forerunner in this? The apostle to the Jews, and God was getting him ready to go preach the Gospel to Cornelius, the gentile, the Roman. And so, he gave him a vision. Remember, he's hungry and lunch was being prepared? God chooses his timing perfectly. He said, "Here's a hungry man." Alright, lunch is being made ready. But then there's this vision of a sheet being let down from heaven, and it contained all kinds of four-footed animals and reptiles and birds, and there are all these unclean things. "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." He said, "Never, Lord. I've never eaten anything impure or unclean." And then God spoke from heaven a second time, "Do not call anything unclean that God has made clean." The thing is, if they serve you snake... Never mind, but if they serve you [laughter] bat, eat whatever they serve you. A number of years ago, Elisabeth Elliot came to First Baptist Church and she spoke to the women at a women's conference. And my wife and I and our kids, we had the privilege of sitting at a table with one of the greatest women of the 20th century, and we're talking about missionary life among the Huaorani Indians in the Amazonian jungle and the things they ate. And you've heard this saying before, "Where he leads, I will follow. What he feeds, I will swallow." It's like... I had my own battle with this before we went to Japan. Those of you who know me know some things about me, and concerning my tendencies. You are all put on notice that I don't like seafood. If you have us over and you serve seafood to me, you are giving me a clear message. I don't know what it is, I'll have to ask you, but there's definitely a message here. If my wife serves me seafood, that's a whole different level of communication in our marriage. Absolutely. She knows I'm not going to eat it. I'm going to set it aside and say, "Okay, what did I do? It must have been huge. But we're going to Japan. And they eat all manner of seafood over there. And we were at the International Learning Center, we were there and we were having a time of prayer before we all went to the four corners of the earth, some to Mongolia, some to sub-Saharan Africa. We were going to Japan. And we were sharing prayer requests, some people were laying hands, some people were praying, and they were all different kinds of things being shared. Somebody's father had a weak heart and that couple might never see that man again and they were crying. And there were some lighter things, more insignificant issues, all of it. For me, it was like, "I hate sea food. What am I going to do in Japan?" And people laid hands on me for that, and prayed that God would give me a special measure of grace. And sure enough, the first month we were there, the missionary I was working with and I went to help a Japanese man put a ceiling fan in and he brought us to a fine Japanese restaurant, and they brought out a fish on a cutting board, and they looked at it, and it was like, nodded, went off. And the next thing I know, some of that was on my plate, uncooked, and I thought, just like Elisha, after Elijah had gone up to Heaven in a chariot of fire, I said, "Where now is the God of Israel?" And just, "Help me." But the thing that's cool about a sashimi is it has almost no flavor. And I actually liked the sauces we dipped in, so I was good for a couple of years on that one. But I don't eat truck stops sashimi or sushi. The point is, I didn't have the freedom to just say, "I'm just not going to eat what they serve," despite the fact that I am actually remarkably picky about certain things about eating but that's just... You can't do that. I became like a gentile to when the gentiles, Paul was saying. Verse 22, "To the weak, I became like a weak, to win the weak." "I commended myself to them in whatever way I could. Again, we're not talking about the moral law here, but I am talking about just preferences. I just tailored my preferences to them, and to what they wanted. I've become all things to all people so that by all possible means, I might save some. By all possible means, I might save some from condemnation. By all possible means, I might save some from eternity in conscious torment away from God, through the Gospel. Whatever it takes, that I might fit in." The Overall Principle Hudson Taylor in the 19th century was the first missionary there in China, to just completely go native, to wear a Chinese man's garb and to have the long pony tail and all of the mannerisms and all of that. He was the first to do it. Most of the missionaries before the China Inland Mission were right on the coast, and they stayed Western and they stayed with that, but he plunged in and became all things to all people, so that he might save some. And that was what he found necessary. A person who is selfish and cares only for his or her preferences in this world will not lead many people to Christ. There is a basic level of self-denial that we must reach if we're going to be effective in evangelism. You just have to say no to yourself. You have to be willing consistently to say no to you. Now, next time that we look at 1 Corinthians, verses 24 through 27, we'll talk about the level of self-denial Paul uses, beating his body and making it his slave, the zeal that he had to keep himself under so that others could be saved. IV. Applications Applications: How does this text and the things we've talked about today challenge you? If you're a believer in Christ, how does it challenge you toward evangelism? What does it have you do? How are you convicted? I've been convicted by this. What am I protecting? What am I keeping safe about my lifestyle so that I'm not as effective as an evangelist? It could be just how I think about my life, my time, my energy, my money, what I do with my days. I just... Am I thinking like I could lead some lost people to Christ with my time today or am I thinking selfishly about my time in this world? How are we... We're surrounded every day by lost people here in the Raleigh-Durham area. It's going to take sacrifice for us to reach them. We're going to have to learn more and more, and I know it's hard. Ben Edith, that's one of the best prayers I heard, you took away a bunch of my application points, but thank you, brother, because we're almost out of time. The workplace, what could we do with the workplace? Like Ben was saying, what could we do to connect with people? To have conversations, to use hospitality to bring people over? What could we do in our neighborhoods? What could we do to connect with people? What could we do to either have people or go to their events. Sometimes, like recently, we had an event in our neighborhood that we didn't host, but we just went. And building relationships. What are things we could do with existing ministries here in the life of the church, like International Connections, that's having a phenomenal outreach to internationals? What are some things we could do through the Caring Center, which has a phenomenal ministry here in this urban setting? What are some things we're not doing now that we haven't even thought of, some doors that God's going to set before us to get us involved in the lives of lost people? What are some ways that we can, like Adoniram Judson did in one locality, I mentioned it before, spread 500 leaflets, and see one person come to Christ. Broadcast seed selling is one of the great challenges, to be willing to fail and fail and fail and fail, and you've not failed, because some of those people may come to Christ without you around. The Lord humbles us that way. But just to be willing to share with many people, so that some can be saved. This is the gospel. Now, I'm conscious of the fact that not everyone listening to me right now is born again. You've heard the Gospel, all of you. And I pray that maybe you walked in here today, unconverted, but you won't walk out unconverted. Judgment Day is coming, you don't know when you're going to die. And you've heard that God sent His Son into the world. You heard it from the three that were baptized. You've heard it from me already when Paul talked about what the gospel is. You know enough. You don't need to do anything, you just need to believe and trust in Jesus and you will be forgiven. Close with me in prayer.

“All of your clients are just asking a very simple question, can you get me from point A to point B, and do you have the proof?”   This week on The Part-Time CEO, we are debunking a popular sales myth that may be keeping you from a higher conversion rate. If you've been around the block in business, you've heard that an effective sales strategy is dependent on the, “know, like, trust factor.” It's possible that your focus on helping potential clients to “know” and “like” you might be wasting time, money, and pushing your leads to other entrepreneurs.   ”People need to feel two things. They need to feel that you can get them over the bridge of where they are now to where they want to be. Even more importantly, they need to feel that they are important to you and to your company.”   On this episode, we'll go through some examples, disproving the “know, like, trust” factor. If those aren't the secrets for effective sales, what are they? We'll discuss some effective strategies for building client trust, and providing actionable intel that gives clients a reason to choose your service or product. Listen in to find out more!     “Clients want access and communication, and that's what business owners forget. They're so busy. They're focusing so hard on nurturing new leads and client acquisition that they are forgetting about and ignoring the feel factor. People need to trust you. They need to like you. And they need to feel that you value them as a person and that you can get them to where they need to go. ” Some Topics we talk about in this episode:   Introduction - 0:00 Personal Example - 2:08 Helping Clients Feel Important - 4:01 Techniques for Building Trust - 6:58 Wrap-up and Takeaways - 8:59   How to get involved For more resources, information on my coaching services, and a whole community of Part-Time CEOs, find me on Facebook at Janelle Lara, my website, or email me at janelle@janellelara.com.   If you liked this episode, be sure to subscribe and leave a quick review on iTunes. Colossians 4:7-18 Watch Video Download Handout Download Manuscript Listen to MP3 → Click to view the Sermon Outline 10 people that God used to accomplish his purposes I. Paul: The one with a shameful past and challenging present (4:18) Colossians 4:18 - I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. Remember my imprisonment. Grace be with you. Philippians 3:4-7 - …although I myself might have confidence even in the flesh. If anyone else has a mind to put confidence in the flesh, I far more: circumcised the eighth day, of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the Law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to the righteousness which is in the Law, found blameless. But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:23-28 - Are they servants of Christ?—I speak as if insane—I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death.    Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep. I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren; I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches. II. Tychicus: The one with a servant’s heart (4:7-8) Colossians 4:7-8 - As to all my affairs, Tychicus, our beloved brother and faithful servant and fellow bond-servant in the Lord, will bring you information. For I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts… A. Beloved brother 2 Timothy 4:12 - But Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus B. Faithful servant C. Fellow bond-servant in the Lord III. Onesimus: The one willing to do what is right (4:9) Colossians 4:9 - …and with him Onesimus, our faithful and beloved brother, who is one of your number. They will inform you about the whole situation here. Philemon 11-13 - …who formerly was useless to you, but now is useful both to you and to me. I have sent him back to you in person, that is, sending my very heart, whom I wished to keep with me, so that on your behalf he might minister to me in my imprisonment for the gospel… IV. Aristarchus: The one with a sympathetic heart (4:10a) Colossians 4:10a - Aristarchus, my fellow prisoner, sends you his greetings… V. Mark: The one who made a big mistake (4:10b) Colossians 4:10b - …and also Barnabas’s cousin Mark (about whom you received instructions; if he comes to you, welcome him)… Acts 15:37-39 - Barnabas wanted to take John, called Mark, along with them also. But Paul kept insisting that they should not take him along who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work and there occurred such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus. VI. Justus: The one who is committed when few others are (4:11) Colossians 4:11 - …and also Jesus who is called Justus; these are the only fellow workers for the kingdom of God who are from the circumcision, and they have proved to be an encouragement to me. VII. Epaphras: The one who was the focused shepherd (4:12-13) Colossians 4:12-13 - Epaphras, who is one of your number, a bondslave of Jesus Christ, sends you his greetings, always laboring earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God. For I testify for him that he has a deep concern for you and for those who are in Laodicea and Hierapolis. VIII. Luke: The one with a special skill (4:14a) Colossians 4:14 - Luke, the beloved physician, sends you his greetings… IX. Demas: The one who would quit (4:14b) Colossians 4:14b - …and also Demas. X. Archippus: The one who needed encouragement (4:17) Colossians 4:17 - Say to Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it.” Outlined Manuscript Jesus Uses Different People for His Purposes Colossians 4:7-18  Aaron Birk 4-4-2017 All of us love to receive personal handwritten letters from people we love. When your child at school writes you…when your close friend on the other side of the world sends their greetings…When I receive beautiful notes from my wife.....hand-written notes I give attention to all the details. You think about every word, every emoji, every punctuation. And how much more if it was from a loved one who you have not heard from in a while and you knew they were in a situation of suffering. The letter of Colossians is written by Paul to his Christian family…the church in Colossae. The passage today is Paul’s final remarks and personal greetings…his encouragement to the church…and to let his family (Christians throughout Asia) know how he is doing. He signs his personal greetings by his own hand…as he suffers for Christ in a Roman prison. As we read this today…consider the suffering and encouragement in such circumstances. God wants us to be encouraged. God wants us to know that Jesus is supreme. And from the passage to see how  Jesus uses different people for his purposes. Read Colossians 4:7-18 1. Jesus uses people with shameful pasts. Jesus changes Paul from a persecutor of Christ to a preacher of Christ. “You have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it. . . . [But now those who once feared me are saying,] “He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.” And they glorified God because of me.” Galatians 1:13, 23–24 ESV "But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.” 1 Tim. 1:16 NIV   Jesus changes people for God’s amazing plans and not for Paul’s plans. Jesus changes Paul from a hater of Jesus to a lover of Jesus. Paul tries to stop the spread of the good news about Jesus to the world… BUT Jesus uses Paul to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to the world.   “The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it.” Colossians 1:23 NLT   No one can stop Jesus doing what he wants. His life changing work throughout the world can’t be stopped.   You and I have ugly pasts as well. The way we have treated others and God we often can’t forget. But Christ changed Paul’s life to put the past sins behind him and to seek Jesus and to know Jesus, even if it means sharing in the sufferings of Jesus.   [Personal Example] Jesus uses even people with shameful pasts like Paul who persecuted Jesus, and makes them preachers of Jesus’s love.   2. Jesus uses people with a servant heart. Jesus changes Tychicus from an unfortunate Gentile to a fortunate servant. You may have never heard of Tychicus, he is not talked about much probably in your bible study, or over coffee, or his life described as the super-Christian. But Jesus looks at the heart, and uses this non-Jewish man in significant ways because is a faithful servant and has a servant’s heart.    Paul sends Tychichus to encourage the church and tell them all the details about being in prison in Rome. Paul says…   “As to all my affairs, Tychicus … will bring you information” (v.7) “For I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts” (v.8) “They will inform you about the whole situation here.” (v.9) Paul never went to the Colossian Church, and Tychicus must travel from Rome to the Colossians to deliver letters. One letter is the letter to the Colossians which we are studying together, the other is the letter Ephesians to the Ephesian church.   “To bring you up to date, Tychicus will give you a full report about what I am doing and how I am getting along. He is a beloved brother and faithful helper in the Lord’s work. 22 I have sent him to you for this very purpose—to let you know how we are doing and to encourage you.” Ephesians 6:21-22   Lastly, is the letter of Philemon which is about Onesimus who is going with Tychichus.    Now Tychichus names means fortunate (lucky) …Tychicus was from Asia Minor, the location of the Colossian and Ephesian churches (the west coast of Turkey)   [Show Map of Churches]   Jesus desires to change the lives of non-Jewish people. Tychicus is not Jewish. So Tychicus did not grow up hearing the promises of God in the Old Testament. He did not regularly go to temple to hear about God. He was not Jewish. But Jesus changes the life of Tychicus, and uses Christians to bring the good news about Jesus Christ to him and Tychichus trusts in Jesus.    We know then that Tychicus becomes a traveling friend of Paul on his journeys to share Jesus Christ throughout the world.   It might look like Tychicus’s background is unfortunate being born in a non-Jewish home, but Jesus changes his life and he becomes a changed man…   Paul describes Tychichus as…   “Beloved Brother…Faithful Servant…Fellow Bond-Servant.”    Tychicus is changed by Christ to be a man fortunate to carry news to the churches of Asia, Tychichus is fortunate to carry important news of Paul’s situation…And fortunate to tell Christians throughout the world how Jesus Christ is changing lives even in Rome. Tychicus is a faithful servant and messenger…he has a servant’s heart, Jesus uses him for the advance of the gospel.   Jesus changes people from unfortunate circumstances to be servants of the greatest fortune in all the world…Jesus Christ.    3. Jesus uses the rebel. Jesus changes Onesimus from a useless rebel to a useful brother.  - Onesimus is a runaway slave. One of the letters that Paul writes during  his time in Prison in Rome is the letter Philemon.   “It seems you lost Onesimus for a little while so that you could have him back forever. He is no longer like a slave to you. He is more than a slave, for he is a beloved brother, especially to me. Now he will mean much more to you, both as a man and as a brother in the Lord.” Philemon 15-16 NLT    - Paul encourages us Jesus’s plans were to allow Onesimus to be lost and a runaway slave for a short time so that he could be found by Jesus and returned forever as a brother in Christ. The name Onesimus means useful. And Paul shares in his letter to Philemon how Christ changes Onesimus from a useless rebellious slave to a useful brother. Runaway slaves were killed. But Paul says something different…   “I appeal to you to show kindness to my child, Onesimus. I became his father in the faith while here in prison. Onesimus hasn’t been of much use to you in the past, but now he is very useful to both of us. I am sending him back to you, and with him comes my own heart.” Philemon 10-11 NLT   Jesus changes Onesimus’s life when he flees to Rome. So he’s a runaway slave in the giant city of Roma and of all people…he meets Paul in prison who tells Onesimus about Jesus Christ. Onesimus trusts in Jesus and is a changed man. Onesimus is now returning to his former master, no longer a rebellious slave, but a changed man.   Earlier in Colossians 3 God instructs slaves and masters… “Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely b ecause of your reverent fear of the Lord.” Colossians 3:22 NLT   Jesus changes Onesimus…Onesimus now fears God desires to obey God and reconcile the relationship with his Master, Philemon. Jesus shows mercy and love to useless rebels like you and I and changes us to useful brothers and sisters in Christ.   4. Jesus uses people with sympathetic hearts. Jesus uses Aristarchus to be a sympathetic companion. Aristarchus was a Jew who was from the city of Thessalonica which is in Macedonia. When Paul first goes to the city, the Jews are so opposed to the gospel…they are violent. But a few Jews believe from this city and accompany Paul in Acts 17. Most the Jews of Thessalonica are pretty against the spread of the gospel. By Acts 19-20 – Aristarchus travels with Paul to and from Macedonia But Aristarchus is loyal servant of Christ and in Acts 27 – Aristarchus is with Paul when Paul goes to Rome to be tried as a prisoner.  Once Paul writes from prison in Rome (Colossians, Philemon, Ephesians, and Philippians) and Aristarchus is with him. And now Paul mentions how this Jewish man, from a city that was very hostile to the gospel, is a fellow co-worker… one of the three Jewish men working with him in Rome. Aristarchus has such a sympathetic heart to the sufferings of others that he voluntarily cares for Paul while in prison. You may not be a preacher or teacher like Paul, but I know many in our family that have sympathetic hearts, that Jesus uses for caring for those suffering …you have opportunities with Griefshare…cancer ministry…for the children at Hartford Hub, foster care…adoption, Jobs for Life etc. Jesus uses people with sympathetic hearts for marvelous purposes that impacts the lives of many. 5. Jesus uses people who make a big mistake. Jesus uses Mark’s mistake to make him a courageous comforter. - John Mark who is called Mark in the Bible, was a Jewish Christian. Mark’s mother, had a house in the city of Jerusalem where the early church met (cf. Acts 12:12)   - Mark is the writer of the book of Mark, which is one of the 4 gospel books in the Bible about the life of Jesus.  - Mark is the cousin of Barnabas (Col. 4:10). - The fact the Paul mentions Mark in this letter is proof of how Jesus changing Mark’s life. - Paul and Mark have some past friendship issues (…they have a history). In Acts 13: 5, 13 – Mark is with Paul and his Barnabas and they are on their way to present day Turkey to tell people about the good news about Jesus Christ. The journey we know is tough…and Mark leaves Paul and Barnabas… Can you imagine…when you need faithful friends the most…they leave you. So later, Paul is in Jerusalem (Mark’s hometown) with his traveling companion Barnabas. Remember Mark is Barnabas’s cousin and guess who’s there. It’s Paul’s good friend Mark…awkward family reunion…Paul and Barnabas back from their missionary journey suffering for Christ to share Jesus with those who have never heard about Jesus…and there’s John Mark…the one who left them. Paul and Barnabas are about to travel again on another journey…and we get to hear more about their relationship problems in Acts 15 “Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark. But Paul disagreed strongly, since John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in their work. Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus.” Acts 15:37-39 NLT   Paul refused to allow Mark to go with him as a companion on his travels, so Barnabas, Paul’s companion actually chooses to take Mark and sail for Cyprus.    Jesus changes the life of Mark dramatically…and Barnabas and Peter were both important people that Jesus used to encourage Mark to become faithful even through suffering. Jesus mark mistake and Barnabas’s encouragement to be a courageous comforter for Paul.. - Mark encourages and supports Paul. Mark is with Paul in Rome during his first imprisonment…and represents Paul to churches throughout the area of present day Turkey (Philemon 24; Col. 4:10).  - Jesus changes Mark so much that Paul asks for Mark to come to Rome to be with him during his final imprisonment before Paul dies, because Mark is so useful. Pauls says, “…Bring Mark with you when you come, for he will be helpful to me in my ministry.” 2 Timothy 4:11 NLT How amazing that Jesus changes the unfaithful coward Mark so much Paul says this about Mark in verse 11: “…these (even including Mark!) are the only fellow workers for the kingdom of God who are from the circumcision, and they have proved to be an encouragement to me.” Colossians 1:11 Jesus changes unfaithful cowards into courageous comforters. Praise God!  There are some here who recently made a giant foolish mistake that you regret…or know a loved one who has…When I have made foolish mistakes it is easy to think I can never be useful again…but Jesus wants us to learn to grow and mature from our mistakes, not to be fearful of messing up and failing.  6. Jesus uses committed people. Jesus uses Justus who is committed to Jesus, despite the numbers. Colossians 4:11 and also Jesus who is called Justus; these are the only fellow workers for the kingdom of God who are from the circumcision, and they have proved to be an encouragement to me. The number of faithful Jews seems so small, but Jesus uses the commitment of a few for great things. Justus is one of the few committed Jews.  It’s easy to give up. You might be tempted to stop leading a Bible Study, to stop inviting co-workers, or feel like you are the only one sharing Jesus in your family…We have hope knowing that Jesus uses faithful committed followers for purposes that are greater than what we usually see.   7. Jesus uses people who labor in prayer Jesus uses Epaphras’s labor in prayer for building up others, even when Epaphras cannot help physically. Paul encourages the church, that one of their own leaders, Epaphras greets them. Epaphras is the man who told Paul about the Colossian church because he brought the good news about Jesus Christ to the Colossians. Paul says, “You learned about the Good News from Epaphras, our beloved co-worker. He is Christ’s faithful servant, and he is helping us on your behalf.” Col. 1:7 Paul gives thanks for people like Ephaphras…servants of Christ…brothers and sisters who pray with intense passion for you…Epaphras encourages Paul. Paul tells how much Epaphras cares for the Colossians. He continually prays they mature as Christians in their faith…he wants the Colossians to be confident in God’s will. Look at verse 12: “Epaphras, who is one of your number, a bondslave of Jesus Christ, sends you his greetings, always laboring earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God.” (v.12) As Christians at times we can be immature and doubt God’s will. Just like us, the Colossians should not doubt God’s word is true. Jesus Christ is the Creator and Ruler of the universe and they should be confident of God’s will being accomplished in Jesus Christ. God’s will is accomplished in and through prayers of his people. [Example of Kevitt in Prayer] Epaphras prays for the Colossians just as our pastors pray for you. Jesus uses people who labor in prayer. 8. Jesus uses those with education and special skills. Jesus changes Dr. Luke from an educated skeptic to a faithful believer.  - Luke is the author of the gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. - Luke accompanies Paul throughout many of his travels…And serves as Paul’s personal physician, since he was a doctor. But Luke was not Jewish. Luke was a Gentile born in Syria. And in the gospel of Luke, which Luke wrote…Luke mentions his careful study and investigation into the truth about Jesus Christ. As Luke meets eyewitnesses, studies the information about Jesus from others, Jesus changes Luke’s heart from a skeptic of Jesus to a believer in Jesus. “…it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus; so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.” Luke 1:3-4 - Luke, the loved physician of Paul, travels throughout the world spreading the good news about Jesus Christ and helping in whatever way he can, especially as Paul’s personal physician. - Luke is with Paul in Rome during his imprisonments as a faithful supporter and encourager. - Before Paul’s death in Rome when Paul is imprisoned for the second time….Luke is with Paul. “Only Luke is with me.” 2 Timothy 4:11a NLT [Examples of individuals with special skills at Faith West] Jesus changes people like Luke…educated skeptics with special skills…to faithful believers. 9. Jesus uses people who turn away from God.  Jesus uses Demas for his purposes even though he quits following Jesus. Colossians 4:14b  Later on Demas will leave the ministry in order to pursue the pleasures of the world. Consider…Jesus was using a man who would later stop serving. God knew that and Jesus uses him anyway to spread the love of Christ. “Demas has deserted me because he loves the things of this life and has gone to Thessalonica” 2 Timothy 4:10 is that God was using a man who would later stop serving. God knew that.  We pray that this would not happen to any of us. By God’s grace we will live for Christ all the days of our lives.  -But remember this … Jesus uses those who turn from God.  10. Jesus uses people who need encouragement. Jesus uses Archippus who needs encouragement.  It is possible that Archippus was taking care of the Colossian church while Epaphras was away, but we are not sure. He clearly had some ministry responsibility he needed encouragement to faithful complete. Say to Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it.” Colossians 4:17 There are individuals in your life that Jesus wants to use you to comfort and encourage to continue to live faithfully for Christ.  What a comfort to know when we feel overwhelmed and in need of help and encouragement, Jesus still uses us. Brothers and Sisters…the book of Colossians is all about Jesus being first. Colossians shows Jesus is like no other in power and wisdom.  From the closing remarks be encouraged that Jesus is Lord, he uses everyone, all people for his marvelous purposes.  We must trust in Jesus and seek to do his will. May Jesus’s will be done in our lives as we seek to serve him and may the good news of Jesus Christ continue to spread as we are faithful servants to complete the good works Jesus has for us.
