Today we were delighted to welcome KR Sridhar, Ph.D., Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Bloom Energy. KR's academic background includes a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, a Master's in Nuclear Engineering, and a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering. Before founding Bloom, KR served as Director of the Space Technologies Laboratory at the University of Arizona, where he led a NASA project to develop fuel cells capable of producing oxygen for future Mars missions. That breakthrough research ultimately inspired the founding of Bloom Energy in 2001. Bloom went public in 2018 and is a leader in solid oxide fuel cell technology, delivering always-on, on-site power. Its systems convert natural gas, biogas, or hydrogen into electricity without combustion, helping power data centers and hospitals to microgrids and industrial facilities and beyond. We were thrilled to visit with KR to discuss fuel cells, the evolving power landscape, Bloom's progress, and what lies ahead. In our conversation, KR shares reflections on the past 24 years of technology development since founding Bloom in 2001 and his original vision for the company, the shift from the mechanical/industrial age to the digital age, and the opportunity he saw to support rising energy demand driven by economic growth. We discuss Bloom's high-temperature solid oxide fuel cells, the history of the underlying physics stemming from an 1890s patent, product development and commercialization, and KR's reliance on top-tier, seasoned venture investors willing to commit capital and time. We explore the advantages of being in Silicon Valley with access to risk capital and highly skilled engineers, Bloom's strategic choice to focus on natural gas as a commercially viable fuel, and KR's thesis on distributed electricity as a way to provide access, affordability, and sustainability. KR discusses Bloom's fuel cell technology and strategic design choices, highlighting the application of Moore's Law to drive annual cost reductions, and outlines the target market and growth trajectory, focusing on AI data centers and the increasing need for on-site power. He emphasizes the advantages of Bloom's modular on-site power solutions, commercial adoption milestones, and the company's cost-effectiveness compared with traditional turbines and engines. We touch on Bloom technology's scalability from powering a store to a full data center or factory, their supply chain and ability to scale rapidly to meet growing demand, the technology moat between them and any other competitor, and Bloom's relationship with natural gas producers. We had a hard time ending the discussion, but to conclude, we asked KR for his vision for Bloom ten years from now. He shared an inspiring vision for abundant, affordable, accessible, and sustainable electricity. As mentioned, Bloom's recent white paper on fuel cells is linked here. We greatly appreciate KR for sharing his time and unique insights. To kick us off, Mike Bradley noted that all eyes are on Wednesday's FOMC Rate Decision Meeting, with consensus expecting a 25 basis-point interest rate cut and two additional 25 basis-point rate cuts through year-end. He emphasized that Wednesday's rate cut is fully consensus/dialed in and wouldn't be surprised if the week proves to be more of a “buy the rumor, sell the fact.” Furthermore, Chairman Powell's press conference tone will be extremely important in determining how aggressive interest rate cuts could be through year-end. On the broader market front, the S&P 500 has historically risen ~0.5% on average one week following the last three interest rate cuts, so there could be some very-very modest follow through this week. Equity market observers are hopeful that a series of interest rate cuts will allow market breadth to expand beyond AI/Big Tech stocks, which currently comprise ~35% of the S&

In this episode, we're talking about beloved computer game, The Sims, with special guest Ruth Ormiston. Ruth (they/them) is a book designer and cultural worker with an MA in English Literature from the University of Victoria (where they specialized in late-nineteenth-century children's publishing) and a Master of Publishing from Simon Fraser University. And they're a fan of The Sims.Released 25 years ago, the game has seen many updates and dozens of expansion packs, all while retaining a grip on children and adults alike who flock to it for escapism, world-building, chaos, and play. In our conversation, Hannah contextualizes its reception in the early aughts and helps us understand its enduring success across a diverse audience through a look at Jack Halberstam's work, The Queer Art of Failure. Together, Ruth, Marcelle and Hannah consider the pleasure of the open-endednesThe Sims provides, while still being a designed game that has particular ideas about the world coded into it. As you can imagine, the conversation turns to heteropatriachy and capitalism before deep-diving into the exit-less pool of subversive possibilities enabled in the gameplay itself. This episode cites work from Tanja Sihvonen, Jack Halberstam, Diane Nutt, Diane Railston, Hanna Wirman and Rhys Jones.. ***To learn more about Material Girls, head to our Instagram at instagram.com/ohwitchplease! Each episode looks at a unique object of study (something popular now or from back in the day) and over the course of three distinct segments, Hannah and Marcelle apply their academic expertise to the topic at hand.*Materialist Critique is, at its simplest possible level, a form of cultural critique – that is, scholarly engagement with a cultural text of some kind – that is interested in modes of production, moments of reception, and the historical and ideological contexts for both. Materialist critique is interested in the question of why a particular cultural work or practice emerged at a particular moment. In this episode of the Expositors Collective Podcast, Mike sits down in person with Dr Bob Franquiz at our St. Pete training event. Bob reflects on his journey from a shaky first devotion at Bible College to 25 years of preaching and pastoring at Calvary Fellowship in Miramar, Florida.Together they explore:Why you can be called to ministry but still need to grow in gifting. How humour, stories, and illustrations can both serve and sabotage preaching. What Stephen's sermon in Acts 7 teaches us about Old Testament depth, “apologetic reconstruction,” and what Bob calls a masterclass in intertextual whispers. The role of fatherly voices in the church, and how many preachers carry unaddressed father wounds into ministry. How decades of walking with God and pastoring the same church change a preacher's tone, insight, and perspective.Bob's insights remind us that faithful preaching does more than explain texts - it both comforts and challenges, offering what people want and, more importantly, what they need.About Dr Bob FranquizDr Bob Franquiz (Ph.D., Liberty University) is the Founding and Senior Pastor of Calvary Fellowship in Miramar, FL. Have you ever wondered why you sabotage yourself right before a breakthrough? What if the very things you think are protecting you are actually keeping you stuck? In this transformative episode, we dive deep into the sneaky world of resistance and how it silently sabotages your growth and happiness. You don’t need to fight your way to freedom—you just need to understand what’s really happening beneath the surface and learn to dance with it instead of against it. This episode reveals three life-changing insights that will help you transform your greatest obstacle into your most powerful teacher. Resistance Is a Master of Disguise: Resistance never shows up as itself—it’s like a master of disguise at a costume party. It might dress up as the perfectionist (“I can’t start until I have the perfect plan”), the busy bee (“I’m too productive to slow down”), or the helper (“Everyone needs me, I can’t receive”). Catherine shares the story of a brilliant client who insisted she didn’t resist anything, yet discovered her constant urgency to fix and solve was actually resistance to sitting with uncomfortable feelings. The truth? Resistance isn’t just about what you avoid—it’s about what you refuse to allow in. Every Push Costs You Energy: Here’s the perspective shift that changes everything: every time you push away what wants to be felt, you’re not protecting yourself—you’re blocking the very energy that could set us free. When you resist love, you feel lonely in crowds. When you resist help, you exhaust yourself carrying the world alone. When you resist success, you sabotage yourself right before a breakthrough. Catherine worked with a woman who resisted receiving support because she believed it made her weak—the result was complete burnout and heartbreaking disconnection from those who loved her most. Remember: resistance isn’t protection, it’s self-sabotage wearing safety’s clothing. The Only Way Out Is Through: The most beautiful paradox in human psychology? The only way out of resistance is through it. Instead of asking “How do I get rid of this feeling?” ask “What is this resistance trying to teach me?” Catherine shares five research-backed strategies: the five-second rule to bypass mental barriers, the naming game that reduces emotional resistance by 50%, shrinking tasks so your brain can’t resist, flipping “I should” to “I choose,” and moving from self-focus to service. The practice isn’t about forcing change—it’s about creating space, because resistance loses its grip the moment you stop fighting and start allowing. This isn’t just an episode—it’s an invitation to stop fighting yourself and start understanding the wisdom your resistance holds. Healing after abuse, faith and healing, and ending generational cycles—this powerful conversation with author Andi Bull offers tools to stop perfectionism, release judgment, and embrace humble apologies that heal relationships. In this memoir-style episode, we explore how to end the cycle, why God's love—not performance—defines identity, and practical ways to move from victim to survivor to overcomer. Throughout, we return to healing after abuse as a core theme, connecting it to anxiety, people-pleasing, and family patterns. If you're ready for healing after abuse (or any hidden wound), this episode gives you language, lenses, and next steps. You'll hear stories on motherhood, marriage, apology, and discernment that make healing after abuse actionable in daily life.Timestamps:(00:00) Introduction to ending the cycle: perfectionism, people-pleasing, and identity(04:12) Guest shares insights on motherhood, adoption, and unconditional love in practice(08:45) Humble apologies in marriage: how humility breaks defensiveness(12:30) Performance vs. beloved identity: stopping the “earn love” lie(16:05) Morning anxiety, gratitude, and inviting Jesus into honest emotions(19:42) Seeing as God sees: non-judgment, modeling, and discerning “not from you”(24:18) Suffering and growth: the barbed-wire tree and integrating grief(28:10) From victim → survivor → overcomer: refusing to let pain define you(31:40) Tools to end gossip and judgment while keeping relationships(35:05) Parenting & grandparenting stories: unconditional love in the checkout line(38:20) Practical takeaways and next steps to end generational patternsKey Takeaways:Identity first: You are loved before you perform; humility dismantles defensiveness.End the cycle: Awareness + new responses (apology, curiosity, modeling) rewrite family patterns.Judgment → discernment: Ask for God's eyes and heart; sometimes the word is “not from you.”Suffering integrates: We don't “shrink” pain; we grow around it and become stronger.Move stages: Acknowledge victimhood, heal as a survivor, live as an overcomer who helps others.Guest Bio:Guest Bio:For over twenty-five years, Andi has dedicated herself to the study of God's word, graduating from the King's University with her Master's in 2003.As she read the Bible through the eyes of a survivor of traumatic childhood abuse, she saw how God passionately seeks the lost, gently restores the broken, and tenderly heals broken hearts. Andi became inspired to advocate for emotional well-being, not only for herself but also for the women she is privileged to mentor one-on-one and those she speaks to at conferences. The lessons and insights she gained are in her book, When Your Protectors Didn't: Healing from a Past of Broken Pieces. Raised in South Africa as a child, she now resides in sunny Southern California with her husband, daughter, and pups. She loves her family, friends, pups, and coffee—lots and lots of coffee!
