Kathleen from Plenty of Sunshine Travel met with Eric from Royal Caribbean Cruise Line for this week's cruise chat. . Eric and I discussed Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's newest ship Icon of the Seas. This ship has something for all energy levels, from active teens to parents of small children to adults who want to relax by the pool. Icon of the seas has it all! . Royal Caribbean started “neighbourhoods” on the Oasis class, and they have continued this with the new class of ships, Icon of the Seas. With Iconic Thrills, Icon will have six waterslides. The area is called Thrill Island. One thing I love about Royal Caribbean is that their waterslides are included in your cruise fare. There are not any uncharges to enjoy this area! In addition to the waterslides, there is also the Crown's edge. This is an aerial adventure challenge along the ship's Crown & Anchor, which is 154 Feet above the ocean. They will also bring back the favourites: Mini Golf, FlowRider, Rock Climbing Wall and the Sports Court, featuring Pickle Ball. In the Surfside area, you will find the Family Neighborhood with 3 Ways to splash and more ways to play near the Adventure Ocean - RCLs award-winning children's program. You will also have the Water's Edge Pool in this area with Splashaway Bay & Baby Bay. Enjoy the Playscape, ride the Carousel, or play in the Arcade. . You will find seven pools in the chill area, the most at sea! The pools will be on five different decks with infinite ocean views. In the Chill Island Neighbourhood, you will enjoy 4 Pools & 6 whirlpools & 4 Lime & Coconut, including Royals' first-ever frozen cocktail bar. Enjoy In-water loungers while listening to live Caribbean music. On cloud 17, you will have the adults-only pool (on Deck 17) There is a secluded pool with cantilevered whirlpools. The Hideaway Neighbourhood will feature a hideaway pool with the First ever suspended infinity pool at sea. It will be Suspended 65 feet in the air giving you 180-degree ocean views while enjoying dedicated DJs music. . Central Park will return on the Icon of the Seas, with over 13,000 tropical plants and lush green space with soft jazz music playing softly in the background to create the iconic atmosphere. . Now for the WOWs. The aqua dome and the Absolute zero area are not to missed. This is where you will find the shows and the entertainment. The Aquadome is an enclosed AquaTheater with a Shape-shifting 5-story Waterfall. Royal will have the largest free-standing dome at sea. . The royal promenade neighbourhood will have 15 Bars, restaurants & cafes • Parades, parties & live entertainment. You can break loose with Spotlight Karaoke and showcase your vocal skills (or lack thereof - like me) . Of the eight new Viking Longships®, four ships – Viking Fjorgyn, Viking Kari, Viking Radgrid and Viking Skaga – are built specifically to navigate the Seine River and bring guests to the heart of Paris with an exclusive docking location at Port de Grenelle, just a short walk from the Eiffel Tower. The four additional ships – Viking Egdir, Viking Gersemi, Viking Gymir and Viking Hervor – will sail Viking's popular itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. The naming of the new river ships comes as Viking continues its 25th anniversary and a year of multiple milestones. In January 2022, the company launched Viking Expeditions and its first Polar Class vessel, the Viking Octantis®. By the end of the year, Viking will have also welcomed a second identical expedition ship, as well as two new identical ocean ships, new purpose-built vessels for the Nile and Mekong rivers and new Mississippi River voyages.Viking Naming CeremonyIn keeping with maritime tradition that dates back thousands of years, Viking invited eight distinguished cultural partners and important members of the company's extended family to serve as ceremonial godmothers of the new ships. The honored godmothers include:Alma Deutscher, Godmother of Viking Gymir – A musical phenomenon, Alma captivates the classical world with her talents as a violinist, pianist, composer and conductor, and at just 17 years old was hailed as the “new Mozart” at an early age. She recently appeared on an episode of Viking's award-winning enrichment channel, Viking.TV (Anne Diamond Welcomes Back Composer and Musician Alma Deutscher), where she discussed her upcoming concert series, which will be exclusive for Viking guests on select river voyages visiting Vienna.Helen Deutscher, Godmother of Viking Egdir – A violinist, pianist and vocalist, Helen is an accomplished musician who honed her musical and performance skills at the Music Gymnasium in Vienna and as a member of the Vienna State Opera's children's chorus; she has also performed in several productions of her sister Miss Alma Deutscher's opera, Cinderella. Helen and Alma recently appeared together on an episode of Viking.TV (Anne Diamond Interviews Classical Musicians, Alma & Helen Deutscher) where they discussed their remarkable lives and many musical milestones.Dr. Janie Deutscher, Godmother of Viking Radgrid – An author and educator, Dr. Deutscher is also an accomplished musician and earned an organ scholarship to Oxford University where she later taught medieval literature; in recent years, she has concentrated on homeschooling and supporting the musical ambitions of her two daughters, Alma and Helen, godmothers of Viking Gymir and Viking Egdir, respectfully.Brenda Hunsberger, Godmother of Viking Hervor – For more than four decades, Ms. Hunsberger, Senior Vice President of Travel Services with AAA Club Alliance, has worked in the industry as an accomplished travel agent; she believes in the power of travel to transform perspectives and change lives.Karryn Christopher, Godmother of Viking Gersemi – Ms. Christopher is Executive Vice President of Preferred Partnerships & Marketing for Signature Travel Network, a member-owned travel cooperative established in 1956, where she has led the transformation of the company's sales and marketing division.Ghislaine Wood, Godmother of Viking Fjorgyn – As the Deputy Director of the University of East Anglia's Sainsbury Centre, one of the most important public university art galleries in Great Britain, Ms. Wood carefully curates exhibitions, including the upcoming “Visions of Ancient Egypt,” which was developed in partnership with Viking; opening in September 2022, the exhibit will honor the 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb. Ms. Wood discussed her work at the Sainsbury Centre in a recent episode of Viking.TV (Explore Alaskan Objects at the Sainsbury Centre with Ghislaine Wood), including the origins of their Alaska collection which examines how indigenous Alaskan communities developed technologies and tools to adapt to their environment.Muriel Wilson, Godmother of Viking Skaga – As the Director of Event Strategy & Sponsorships for Virtuoso, Ltd., Ms. Wilson has been a distinguished staff member of the global network of agencies for more than 40 years and leverages her deep knowledge of the industry to develop quality hospitality and travel experiences for Virtuoso's travel advisors and preferred partners.Kari Garmann, Godmother of Viking Kari – Former member of The Parliament of Norway and Oslo City Council, Ms. Garmann has made valuable contributions to Norway in the areas of government, business and banking throughout her career. The naming event was executed by connecting the new ships via satellite across two European cities: Paris and Amsterdam. The Viking Fjorgyn, Viking Kari, Viking Radgrid and Viking Skaga were docked in Paris at the Port de Grenelle, where they were named by their godmothers. The other four ships – Viking Egdir, Viking Gersemi, Viking Gymir and Viking Hervor – were docked in Amsterdam and named by their godmothers, who also joined the celebration in Paris. These three all-suite yachts, together with Windstar's three classic sailing yachts, remain small enough to continue to visit the special small ports and waterways of the world.Five of the line's six yachts are now back in the water cruising while requiring vaccines of all passengers and crew amongst a host of health and safety precautions including testing, social distancing, masks, and high-tech air filtration.MSC's Ocean Cay Marine Reserve welcomes first Loggerhead Turtle Hatchlings Since August, MSC Cruises has been pleased to see hundreds of tiny Loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings making their way to sea from numerous nests that have appeared on Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the Company's private island. These historic sightings are a culmination of MSC Cruises' successful project to return the island and its surrounding waters to its former status as a thriving environment for indigenous flora and fauna. Over six nests have been identified so far and are being monitored on the island.Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC Cruises' private island in The Bahamas, is founded on a strong commitment to the conservation of marine life with 64 square miles of protected waters around the island. From its conception, the goal for Ocean Cay was to return the former industrial sand excavation site to its pristine beauty and to attract local species of fauna and flora both on land and in the ocean. Since it opened in late 2019, the island has progressively transformed into a lush tropical paradise with a rich marine ecosystem and proof of the progress of the conservation programme can be seen with the fact that Loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings have been observed making their way to sea from nests on the island.More than six nests and hundreds of sea turtle hatchlings have been identified on MSC Cruises' marine reserve private islandWhile the successful coral restoration programme has transformed the waters around the former industrial site back into a rich marine ecosystemItinerary of the WeekCreative Cruising & Kiss Tahiti “Tahiti with Kate Ceberano”Wind Star – Nov 2022 – 8nt Cruise (plus pre/post accommodation)Papeete – Moorea – Raiatea – Taha'a – Bora Bora – Huahine – PapeeteInternational return economy airfares ex Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane flying Air New Zealand.Pre- and post-cruise accommodation at the InterContinental Resort & Spa in Papeete, plus meals, complimentary Tahitian cocktail and cultural entertainment. All transfers in air-conditioned coaches, with complimentary water provided.7-night Wind Spirit sojourn, with meals, non-alcoholic drinks and one free glass of wine at dinner.5-island ‘sensual seafari with a difference' cruise itinerary where we seek to spot the ocean's Big Five: whales, reef sharks, dolphins, manta rays and turtles.9 nights' entertainment, including three musical performances courtesy of Kate Ceberano. One Kiss Tahiti hand-picked Diamond 4Cs Experience (valued at AUD 150) included. Andrew Thatcher grew up surfing in the warm waters off Durban, South Africa and came to live in my home town, much further south before leaving for the USA back in 2000. The happiest coincidence occurred when a family connection to Tom Lochtefeld landed him a job at the legendary wave maker's Surf Loch and Wave Loch company. Tom had created the Flowrider and Andrew helped to spread the piece of joy all around the world. Flowriders are in a wide range of places, from cruise liners, to restaurants, to water parks and as stand alone venues. We talk a lot about Endless Surf, White Water's "new" product. It's essentially not new as they have been making waves for over 30 years when they built Typhoon Lagoon in Disney World and more than 400 other pools around the world. It's a fascinating company, with equally absorbing products. You'll enjoy this one. Cheers, Nick

Pre-TravelFor travel to Jamaica, as well as many other destinations these days, I was required to have a negative Covid-19 test. I searched initially for "Utah Covid testing near me." I wanted a location that didn’t require a referral and included “testing for all patients.” I found one near me that just required an appointment. After a video chat with a doctor, who wrote the order, I drove to the clinic at my convenience, called the Covid hotline, and was tested and had my results back in less than an hour, without ever leaving my car.FlightsMy airline of choice is Delta. I love that they are still blocking middle seats through the end of 2020. All airlines require masks, all airlines are filtering the air flow, and all are sanitizing between passengers. Delta handed me a sanitizing wipe as I boarded each flight, so that I could wipe down the high-touch areas around my seat.Delta provided a package that included a small bottle of water and two snacks. Of course, you’re able to bring your own food or nonalcoholic beverages on board with you.Arrival in JamaicaUpon arrival in Jamaica, we had to go through customs, like normal. However, before exiting the airport, the process now includes a thorough health screening for all those who enter the country. It’s quite a lengthy wait, although if you have prepaid for the VIP Club MoBay, it’s quicker. Each party approaches their medical professional as a group. He or she takes their temperature, asks the relevant medical questions about symptoms and being in contact with someone with Covid, and checks all of their documents and makes sure they have a valid negative Covid test.Transportation to the ResortThe driver required everyone to sanitize prior to boarding the bus we were on. I stayed in Ocho Rios, about a 2-hour drive from the airport. The Moon Palace JamaicaWelcoming. Sanitized. Everyone masking. The Moon Palace Jamaica is a beautiful all-inclusive beachfront resort. It’s on the tip of a point, surrounded on three sides by the Caribbean Sea, and has two white sand beach areas, one for relaxing, and the other for nonmotorized watersports like paddleboarding, kayaking, and a sea trike. It has five pools, including a FlowRider wave simulator, a kids’ pool, a waterslide, plunge pools, two jacuzzi hot tubs, and waterfalls. Motorized watersports are available for an extra fee. With two tennis courts, a huge spa, fitness center, nightly and daytime entertainment, there are many activities going on, or you can relax and enjoy not doing anything. A la carte restaurants: Italian, Asian (teppanyaki style, or sushi and other Japanese fare), and a steakhouse. Additionally, they offer a jerk shack, a coffee/crepes/sandwiches/sushi/ice cream area, and pool bars and snack areas.  The buffet is fully operational and very impressive, for breakfast and lunch! It is set up with all choices available, but served by the friendly wait staff.Room types The superior deluxe ocean view room, where I stayed, has a balcony and beautiful views, 24-hour room service, and nightly turndown service. Other room types include resort view rooms, junior suites, honeymoon suites, 1-bedroom suites, family deluxe suites, and 2-bedroom suites. They have a few handicapped accessible rooms as well.Activities I didStand-up Paddleboarding: onsiteFlowRider: onsiteA spa treatment: onsite. The Awe Spa is amazing.Dunn's River Falls excursion: offsite. Worth every penny.RecapGlad I went? Absolutely. Would I travel to other international destinations right now? Yeah, mon! Best part: Getting away, feeling the adventure of traveling again, having new experiences. Worst part: Masking the entire time. Safe? I sanitized and washed and masked so many times, there’s no way I could have returned with anything except chapped hands and maybe some “mask-ne” (mask acne).

Join the CEO of our sponsor, Joe Gorton as he guest hosts the show today. We are fortunate to be joined by Salt Lake City firefighter Evan Fitzgerald. Evan is doing some amazing work with peer support and this is one conversation you don't want to miss!! My name is Evan Fitzgerald, I also go by the nickname Fitz. I currently work full time for Salt Lake City Fire Department, and part time at North View Fire District as the Health and Wellness Coordinator. Establishing and managing programs that support Frontline Athlete wellness is my passion. After working six years as a health and wellness coordinator, I have motivated changes that have made a positive impact throughout the state of Utah. With the help of awesome mentors, I developed the Firefighter Fitness Coordinator Certification curriculum, which the Salt Lake City Fire Department currently uses.I began building a powerful respect for the Frontline Community the day after I turned 7, when Firefighters and Paramedics responded to my farm house. As my brothers and I waited to be taken to school, a tractor accident instantly took the life of my Dad. After the Firefighters explained that nothing could be done, my older brother immediately began punching one of the crew members pleading for him to fight for our Father’s life. I spent the next 10 years analyzing the meaning of that day. I began to understand how honorable it was for those Firefighters to respond to the chaos of my worst day. At the age of 17 I was given a “paid on call” position at the Mountain Green Fire Department, beginning my career as a Firefighter. I then became an EMT and soon after became a Paramedic. After another 10 years of responding to the homes of devastated grieving families, I felt the burden carried by the Firefighter who, years earlier, allowed my brother to hit him and who also listened to the plea of my broken family. The compounding weight of exposures to trauma, sleep deprivation, and constant stress caused me to buckle. These experiences sent me searching for ways to support the wellbeing of First Responders after hearing and seeing similar struggles in fellow Firefighters. As I began formulating an understanding of Frontline wellness issues, I searched out the specified certifications that would support my pursuit. I earned my Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association as well as my Peer Fitness Trainer certification through the International Association of Firefighters. In furthering my understanding, I consumed any relevant research that I could. I found that fire departments not only needed the information that I discovered, they also need systems to incorporate the practical application of that information. Developing an implementation strategy was the next step so I took what I learned to the respected individuals in my Department and they helped me figure out the best way to present this information to the Administration and Union, who eventually gave their support. Using evidence-based information as the framework, I developed a holistic wellness system. I put this system in a 700-page text that has been reviewed by experts in Nutrition, Psychology, Exercise Science, and sleep medicine. It’s used as the main resource for our “Fit to Respond / Fit to Retire” certification. To bring all Frontline members together in this wellness effort, I developed a competition called the “Frontline Throwdown”, which is a yearly event held at the Utah Fitcon. This event allows teams from Military, Police and Fire groups to use their tactical fitness in a non-emergency event as well as provide a wellness training platform which is expanding this year to include 12 hours of training. My success isn’t mine alone, not only have I had exceptional mentors, I also have an amazingly supportive family. My wife Sarah has assisted me with Firefighter spouse trainings. She’s patient with my long work days, and she definitely takes on more than her fair share of responsibility around the house. When I’m not at work I love spending time with her and our three boys. We enjoy traveling, swimming, Flowrider surfing, indoor skydiving, skateboarding, and boating. Each of my boys ages 9, 5, and 3 are awesome and contribute in their own way. The main drive behind my work is to give my family a living example of the value within the struggle to find meaning in chaos, and then managing the responsibility of that uncovered potential.
