Über THE LOVERS reden Beate & Mel: Es wird romantisch! Die neue Sky Original Serie startet ab 1. November 2023 exklusiv auf Sky. Darum geht's... © 2023 Sky Studios Limited

It seems everything is moving online these days, so it's perhaps no surprise that kids TV is too. CITV, ITV's children's channel, is no longer; it's moving to the company's streaming service, ITVx. Its BBC equivalent, CBBC, is expected to also be online-only in the next few years. Many children now, though, just go to YouTube to watch their shows. But with an ongoing decrease in funding for kids' TV and the move to the less regulated streaming platforms there are concerns about the impact the quality of programmes and online safety. On the Sky News Daily, Niall Paterson explores the issue with former Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq, and Jon Hancock, who's company Three Arrows Media makes shows for Sky Kids and BBC Childrens. If you like your arts and entertainment, why not subscribe to the Backstage podcast? And, if you're a parent, you can find Sky's ad-free, 24-hour Sky Kids channel on Sky Q, Stream, Glass, and NOW.Podcast producer: David Chipakupaku Interviews producer: Melissa Tutesigensi Senior podcast producer: Annie Joyce Editor: Wendy Parker

For many blind people the simple act of finding out what's on TV tonight can be challenging but thankfully new technology is being implemented to make this easier. Up until now, we've seen manufacturers of TVs including Samsung, Panasonic, LG and Sony build in screen readers to their TVs meaning we can finally access the electronic program guide (EPG) and menu systems of our televisions. However what about those set top boxes that plug in such as Sky, Virgin or other smart boxes? Aside the Apple TV, which features the well-known Voiceover software used in iPhones, iPads and Macs, there are very few accessible set top box options. That is, until now. In the middle of 2021 blind Sky Q customers were surprised to learn that a new Voice Guidance system was being rolled out across the country to all Sky Q customers and it certainly has made a real difference to our viewing experience. That's not to say all is perfect but it certainly is a good start. Today on the podcast we hear listener Kieran talk us through how it all works and sounds, and later we meet Fraser Stirling and Simon Elder from Sky to explain how they did it, as well as face some challenging questions around audio description on demand and access to third-party apps on their platform using Sky Q Voice Guidance. As always join in the conversation by emailing hello@blindguytalkstech.com or call and leave us a voicemail on 0204 571 3354.

Hey and welcome to another episode of Blind Guy Talks Tech with your hosts Steven Scott, Shaun Preece and Tim Schwartz. This time around the guys are talking about the best tech of 2021 which includes a lot of chat about TV, gaming and reading books. There’s a heated discussion on the availability of audio description on TV, especially with the news of Sky Glass being made available in the UK. Considering the amount of work Sky has done this year to make it’s Sky Q boxes more accessible, the team ponder why those same accessibility functions are not added into the latest generation of its hardware. There’s also a lot of talk about gaming and how the world of console gaming has become so much more inclusive in 2021 with games such as Forza Horizon 5 following in the footsteps of games such as The Last Of Us Part 2 in becoming more accessible and usable for the blind and low vision community, as well as those in the wider disability community. And in terms of reading, there has been a major addition to the Amazon smart speaker this year when UK blind charity RNIB announced its partnership work with Amazon to create a way for users of the RNIB Talking Books library to call up and enjoy their favourite reads on their Amazon Echo device. What’s your best tech of 2021 and do you have a favourite new gadget to tell us about? Email the show Hello@BlindGuyTalksTech.Com to let us know. Our new podcast starts officially on January 10th 2022 where we will be here every weekday talking about the stories of interest to the blind and low vision community. What can we do to try and stamp sexism out of the football?  Football should be a game for all. But is it really at the moment? A recent Football Supporters Association survey revealed that one in five women suffer unwanted physical attention at football matches. Nearly half the women surveyed were told they knew a lot about football ‘for a woman'. And the survey noted that less than one in twenty women would accept sexism as part of the matchday experience as opposed to over twice as many six years ago.  We thought we would use the international break to good effect and stop talking about injuries and getting back on the winning trail and discuss an incredibly important subject which is very close to many football hearts.  Beesotted invited Caz May (@CazJMay) and Vic Wood (@Victoria1867) from Her Game Too on the show this week to discuss their campaign - aimed at stamping sexism out of football. The whilst also educating and advising on how to create welcome spaces for women in and around football matches. How they had been subject to attacks on social media and thoughts on what could be done to stem it    What have football clubs done to support the campaign and create safe, comfortable spaces for women at their matches? Females who are not as supportive of the campaign as they would have liked. What can they do to garner their support? Hauptsache man bleibt immer neugierig, egal in welchem Alter. Tech Talk is back in your ears once again, and boy... we're sounding good! It's a full house this week - Steven's in the big chair, and is joined by Robin, Tim and Emails Andy, and there's a lot packed into today's hour! Firstly, we're talking TV. Unfortunately, television set top boxes have for many years been a challenge for blind and partially sighted people, as they haven't had accessibility features to speak aloud or make clearly what is on screen. We've been chatting to Fraser Stirling from Sky Q about how that is changing, with new features such as Voice Guidance. We also have a listener review on Sky Q from 'Friend of the Show' Kelly. Speaking of regular listeners, Julian II follows up from our Technology for Life feature from a few weeks back with a personal review of the update to Google Lookout. It's such a promising app, but is it winning over the self proclaimed 'negative' Julian? Also this week, Chris Turner joins us from RNIB's Technology for Life team to introduce us to the voice recording app Just Press Record, which is available on many SmartPhones, the gang talk about the next big Windows update, for Diabetes Awareness Week we're looking at what tech is out there to help monitor our diabetes with Thurston Bluhm, and, after a few weeks break, we crack open the steamer trunk of emails, now creeping back up to eight pages - Is Sky Go accessible on Android and Windows devices? More on the topic on Aftershoks headphones, NVDA vs Jaws, the much-debated RNIB Radio, pigs wearing lipstick, and is Robin really an undercover Amazon agent?   We welcome your comments on anything from today's show, be it Sky Q, diabetes, recording devices, or Google Lookout - email the team at TechTalk@RNIB.org.uk and hear your thoughts read out by the silky smooth English tones of Emails Andy! Chat to you all next week!

Hello and welcome back to another episode of your favourite podcast, with three blind guys chatting about crochet... Oh, sorry, that's the other show we produce! Welcome to Blind Guys Chat. We're ready to bring you episode 15 of our fortnightly show, but it appears that all is not well with the Blind Guys. Stuart seems stressed and anxious and, as we'll hear, he hasn't been eating or sleeping. He ended up going to confession to talk about what's on his mind. We received an email on our last show to ask if the guys could share some of their funny travel stories. Well, ask and you shall receive, and the trio have a few funny and indeed in the case of Óran, a rather cute experience to recount. Oh, and how do the guys feel about being offered a wheelchair at airports? Do they have any tips for managing what can sometimes be a tricky and exasperating situation? Last time Clare Whelan introduced a two-part series looking at units of measurement and what has changed in the UEB code. This time she's back to conclude that with Óran O'Neill, her second-favourite Blind Guy. There's a new kid on the block in the form of the BrailleSense 6, the latest notetaker from Selvas Healthcare in Korea, which was launched at the recent CSUN assistive technology virtual conference. Stuart gives some details and tells us how we can find out more. Dave Nason is Accessibility Lead at Sky Ireland, and he's also one of the nicest guys you could meet. He's joining the guys to talk about a really exciting development where Sky are introducing some significant accessibility into the Sky Q box. Voice Guidance is an internal Screen Reader which can be activated from the Sky Q menu or working in tandem with Sky Q's Voice Control and existing accessibility features, Voice Guidance will make Sky Q even more accessible. Dave is here to talk about how it works and what you can do currently. If you want to know more, than sit tight, because so do Jan and Stuart. Luckily for us, Óran is a Sky Q customer, and has promised to demo this new and very exciting solution on the next show. When Dave Nason isn't working hard for Sky, he's working hard for Applevis, where he's part of their editorial team. And, he's interviewed one or two interesting people along the way. On the last show Jan introduced us to 'Who's the Mole?', a Dutch TV show. Well, good news is that we've an update from Jan who confirms that audio description for the show is now available! Stuart has been watching 'Deadwater Fell' on All 4 and gives it a good rating, and Óran is still working through season two of 'For All Mankind'. Clodagh is back, sounding as great as ever, and ready to read more emails. This week, Robin Christopherson, host of the very popular 'Dot to Dot' podcast, and 'The Echo Show' has been in touch. Watch this space, because Robin will be coming on the show soon. Jan gets the most fan mail of the three guys, and this week he's got another one! And, we have a nice recommendation for a coffee with chocolate and baileys. We think Stuart might test that one out soon. Remember to keep in touch by email to BlindGuysChat@gmail.com or send us a tweet @BlindGuysChat. And Clodagh is asking our listeners to record messages and send them to us so that we can play them on the show!
