Quote to learn for todayThe reason why most people face the future with apprehension instead of anticipation is because they don't have it well designed.

Quote to learn for todayThe successful person has the habit of doing the things failures don't like to do. They don't like doing them either necessarily. But their disliking is subordinated to the strength of their purpose.

Quote to learn for TodayThe man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.- Muhammad Ali翻译一个人五十岁时看事物的观点若和二十岁时相同,他等于是浪费了三十年的人生。

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 22, 2020 4:00

A large percentage of the population is illiterate. unlearn [ˌʌnˈlɜːrn]v. They learn new roles and unlearn old ones. Quote to learn for TodayThe illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.-Alvin Toffler翻译21世纪的文盲将不是那些不会读写的人,而是那些不会学习、不摒弃已学和那些不会再次学习的人。

Quote to Learn for TodayThe reading of all good books is like a conversation with the finest minds of past centuries.

Quote to Learn for TodayThe world turns aside to let any man pass who knows where he is going.

Quote to Learn for TodayThe greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.-Nelson Mandela活着最大的荣耀不在于从不跌倒,而在于每次跌倒后都能站起来。

The BMI (body mass index) is a formula representing body mass that's determined from weight divided by height. Created in 1830 for statistical purposes, it was never intended for clinical use. But somehow it remains as a go-to measure for our bodies and our health. It’s used by health professionals everywhere to assess individual body mass and that supposed connection to health. However 200 years on, is the BMI really a measure of anything? Is it still relevant today? And is it harmful? In this episode, we chat about:The BMI origin and how it's applied todayThe limitations of the BMI and what it fails to take into accountWhat the research says about BMI and healthAnd based on this research, we discuss why it's still in wide use today (hint: it's got to do with the fatphobic world we live in). When it is turbulent, it is difficult to see. When it is calm, everything becomes clearer.

Quote to learn for todayThe quickest way to change your attitude toward pain is to accept the fact that everything that happens to us has been designed for our spiritual growth.

What really grinds my gears is that telemarketers tarnish the reputation of all salespeople. I call it scorched earth selling.  But if you’ve ever met an AMAZING salesperson, then all is immediately forgiven. Today's guest on the Making Money in Multifamily Real Estate Show is Ira Singer. Ira leads new business development, estimating construction production, project management, and the management of trade partner and vendor relationships for Mosaic Construction. As a relationship builder with over 20 years of experience in construction, Ira develops new opportunities through his various roles in the company and community. In this episode we cover:Ira’s background in construction and where he is todayThe concept of design buildsExterior renovations to consider when first approaching a propertyInterior packages that tenants appreciateSite amenities that can really improve community feel Quotes from the episode:“We are big believers in making sure that the exterior of the building is really weatherproof and has an aesthetic appeal. That is where the greatest amount of initial visibility comes for a potential renter. There are tremendous products on the exterior, regardless of the region of the country that provide maintenance free, a long-term warranty and aesthetic enhancements. We are looking at what I started my business in, in the windows, the doors, the siding, the stone, the gutters for water management, roofing, all of these different product classes have different levels of enhancement, different levels of cost, and ultimately provide a facelift to an asset that gets people interested in coming to the building.”“But if you are walking into a community space, we have found that in the entry way, having a buzzer system, an intercom system that allows you to enter via the use of a smartphone. Using technology right out of the gate is really smart. It speaks to an upgrade in the space right off the bat. Long-term finishes that have a rich color, so flooring because… Again, climate depends. But if you are walking in to a cold space, based on the season, you want to have a walk off mat, so you are not tracking any type of snow, debris in. Clean surfaces for flooring, nice railing details if there is a stairway versus a new elevator cab if there is elevator to the building. We have found that a wall accent in the space of the lobby when you walk in is a nice eye-catcher. So those are some of the common area initial right when you come in the front door upgrades that really make sense and give the potential renter a sense that the space has been improved.” Reach out to Ira:Email: ira@mosaicconstruction.netThank you for taking the time to listen. There's a slight chance you haven't heard of today's guest on The School of Greatness. However, even if you aren't into popular music from the past twenty years, you've probably still heard of Alanis Morissette. That's because she is an incredible human being, beyond being an incredible musician and artist. When her first major album came out in 1995, she couldn't have known that it would go on to sell 30 million copies or that she would eventually win multiple major awards for her work.Whether or not she wanted to however, Alanis had to ride the wave of fame, including the dark side of it, for the next couple of decades. What she has learned from that journey, along with her own education in emotional healing, multiple intelligences, finding her way through relationships, and her work, has shaped her into one of the most beautiful souls I have ever met.I had the privilege of meeting up with her in her studio (she's a new podcast host as well!), and it was a delight to hear her perspective and stories on her findings along the way.We connected on a lot of levels, including relationships, struggling in school, and feeling unnoticed. But by the end of our conversation, we connected more than anything on the importance of each person finding their unique purpose and following it relentlessly. It is my honor to share this deep and inspiring conversation with the lovely and talented Alanis Morissette on Episode 266.Some questions I ask:Who was the most influential person in your life before you were 22?What does "unschooling" mean? What was your biggest heartbreak from your teen years? Why were you pursuing over-achievement in your teens? How do you heal in relationship? What is a love addict? How do you emotionally deal with the idea of the best results from your music being behind you?How important is it to you to be relevant and known? In This Episode, You Will Learn:The importance of physical touch (and the lack of it in the U.S.)The idea of multiple intelligences and how the education system doesn't make room for thoseAlanis started a record company when she was 10 years oldWhat it was like to live a double life as a teenager going to school during the day and recording music at nightAlanis was also a competitive swimmer in school (the beginnings of work addiction)The basic stages of development (and how significant it is if they are missed)How Western society has allowed for men and women to have both beta and alpha roles in recent yearsThe difference between catharsis and healing in musicWhat Alanis learned from the success of Jagged Little Pill (30 million albums sold!)Alanis' advice to young artists who are trying to make it big todayThe difference between being in macro service and in micro serviceAlanis' mission now versus 20 years agoAlani's definition of love (it's a drawing)Plus much more...Learn more about your ad choices. Social media has no doubt forever changed the way we keep up with the news, for better and, perhaps more so, for worse, yet social media platforms keep insisting on being just technology platforms and not media publishers. This leads to a sludge of inappropriate, problematic content proliferating online platforms, and that creates unsafe environment for brands to buy against. Speaker or Performer: Bob Petersen Date of Delivery: June 24, 2018 Unrighteous JudgementWe all want a criminal to be caughtIf someone steals from us we want them caught and our stuff backWe want someone to eat of the fruit of their wrongdoing. If they didn't they would never learn. The justice part of us wants to make sure that justice is served. Two types of judgments we use:JudicialOpinion based or judging w/o biblical basisWe are told through the bible to evaluate or judge in order to make a determination whether something is right or wrong.Judgement goes wrong when we critically evaluate and want a punishment that is excessive with the crime.Matthew 7:1-2 AMP 1 DO NOT judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves. 2 For just as you judge and criticize and condemn others, you will be judged and criticized and condemned, and in accordance with the measure you [use to] deal out to others, it will be dealt out again to you. Judging from our own opinions or waysWe criticize people’s actions or decisions based off of what we would do.We all have our opinions whether something is good, bad and really badThe problem comes when we criticize others when they do something drastically different than we would. Our ways and opinions make sense to us but have no basisRomans 12:3-4 NAS “For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function”‭‭Psalms 97:1-2 NAS 1 The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; Let the many islands be glad. 2 Clouds and thick darkness surround Him; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. We will not only judge nations, but also angels in the age to come.We will rule and reign with the Lord in His kingdomThis is something we must learn now. There are two separate legal systems that we as Christians live inThe world’s system of lawsGod, Himself has set up this system to punish lawbreakersRomans 12:1 says all authority has been set up by God...God’s system of lawsGod’s laws are good and still applicable today. The punitive aspects of the law are not applicable todayThe cross has settled thatExample: Woman caught in adultery. The Pharisees said, “Now in the law”Jesus applied grace which forgave her without punitive penaltyMuch of the time God’s people think Old Testament by wanting people punished according to the law.The world’s system has a penal system based off of what the perpetrator has doneGod’s system has penal system based off of what Jesus has doneThere are two types of Mercy to be considered to keep us from judging.Galatians 6:1 NAS Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.“There, but for the grace of God, go I” - John BradfordRomans 14:10 AMP Why do you criticize and pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you look down upon or despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God. Caleb:This is the entire gospel:2 Corinthians 5:19 AMP that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting people’s sins against them [but canceling them]. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation [that is, restoration to favor with God].Gossip: what is it creating?Transform culture by being counter-culture and prophesying the opposite.1 Corinthians 14:3 AMP But [on the other hand] the one who prophesies speaks to people for edification [to promote their spiritual growth] and [speaks words of] encouragement [to uphold and advise them concerning the matters of God] and [speaks words of] consolation [to compassionately comfort them].

Dr.June Jackson Christmas, a psychiatrist, was the first African-American womanappointed Commissioner of the New York City Department Health and MentalRetardation Services by Mayor Lindsay in 1972. She was re-appointed by MayorsBeame and Koch, and sat on the Board of the Health and Hospitals Corporation, the city agency that operates Municipal Hospitals and neighborhood family carecenters.   Inthis podcast, Dr. Christmas discusses the symbolic importance of Sydenham Hospitalas the first integrated not-for-profit hospital in the city to the blackcommunity in Harlem. Dr. Christmas was forced to support the controversial closingof the hospital in 1980 saying “I had orders to support the closing becausethat was the city policy.” However, she offered alternatives for the hospital’sfuture that were rejected.   Openedin 1925 as a private hospital, Sydenham was the only place black doctors hadadmitting privileges. By the time Sydenham was taken over by the city in 1949, whenit went into bankruptcy, black doctors were slowly able to admit patients inmore hospitals across the city.   Duringthe 1970s New York City fiscal crisis, Sydenham was one of the four hospitals designatedto close in order to save the newer hospitals in the Health and HospitalsCorporation system. New York State cited Sydenham, high maintenance costs and itsdifficulty complying with newer hospital codes. Protestorsopposed the closing of Sydenham citing a public health concern that the nearesthospital, Harlem Hospital was 12 blocks away and often operated at full capacity.Much opposition came from union members over the loss of jobs, although anagreement between the City and Federal Government stipulated that workers wouldbe moved to other health facilities across the city. Todaythe former Sydenham hospital is a 10- story building housing the elderly andhandicapped. Mayor Koch has since admitted that he was wrong to close thehospital and failed to see the symbolism for the Harlem community.
