Anthony Mann has been in the real estate industry for over 14 years. He has 13 years of experience in investing, flipped over 200 homes and currently owns 43 properties. During his tenure as an agent, he has sold more than 1,000 REO and short sale properties in the Long Island, New York market. He was able to get into a niche field within the industry, where there are less than 15 active REO agents. In that market, he was the youngest by nearly 20 years. Anthony has seen many markets and new technology emerge without any true benefit to agents. So, he decided to make a change in the industry and launched AM Open House, the best digital sign-in app for Open Houses, in July of 2014. Anthony has dedicated his entire focus to the AM Open House app and management platform to make the lives of agents easier while supplying them with the technology they want and can benefit from using. Over the years, Anthony has helped over 125,000 agents do better business. Founding A Social Strategy in 2016 was a milestone for Anthony, as he has always had a passion for helping businesses grow through marketing and advertising. Currently, A Social Strategy handles advertising for numerous real estate agents and brokers, mortgage professionals, and businesses that need help generating qualified appointments and showings while eliminating the busy work for the professionals. The team at A Social Strategy handles everything for agents so they can focus on what they do best – sell more homes! What you'll learn about in this episode: How Anthony got started in real estate in 2007, right before the crash of 2008, and how it impacted his business as a residential real estate agent Why Anthony's 2008 reckoning pushed him to get into real estate investing through the foreclosure market How the first deal Anthony did helped him explode into the market and hit the ground running, and why the 2008 crash was the push he needed How Anthony pivoted into real estate tech, and why he loves working in every aspect of the real estate market How Anthony recognized that the retainer agency model for real estate lead generation was becoming oversaturated and how he saw an opportunity to do things differently How Anthony's system puts their clients in complete control, and how the new model has been hugely profitable and created win-wins for Anthony's team and clients How Anthony's system can work for agents or investors interchangeably and can work in just about any real estate market What's next for Anthony and his team, and why Anthony is focusing on growing out what he's doing now and expanding his team Why Anthony believes that prices today are out of control and that we're in the midst of a massive real estate bubble and that a correction is coming Resources: Website: https://zeroretainer.com/ Website: http://redisclosures.com/ Website: www.asocialstrategy.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/anthonymann85 Instagram: @themann85 LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/anthonymann/ Twitter: @anthonymann Additional resources: Real Estate on Your Terms by Chris Prefontaine SmartRealEstateCoachPodcast.com/webinar SmartRealEstateCoachPodcast.com/ebook SmartRealEstateCoach.com/QLS Smart Real Estate Coach Podcast Sponsor: Paul G. Today's Coaching Through Stories episode features Anthony Noto, the current CEO at SoFi, a unique finance company whose goal is to help clients “get their money right.” Anthony shares the challenges that helped shape him, the early failures and setbacks that propelled him to move forward, and how he goes about building a great culture. Anthony says the secret to success is to “work as hard as you can, do the right thing, and take care of others.”   Anthony Noto is the former COO of Twitter and the former Co-Head of Global Telecommunications, Media and Technology Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs. He also served as the National Football League’s CFO and Executive Vice President for nearly three years. His past experience also includes his service as a Captain in the U.S. Army.    Episode Highlights:  Story that has a significant impact on Anthony’s life, values, and leadership philosophy  How the challenges Anthony has experienced has helped shape him and his values  The messaging of Anthony’s mom about being good enough  Anthony’s thoughts on the dark side of the independent mindset  The early failure and setbacks that has propelled Anthony to move forward  What drives Anthony today  How much Anthony tries to craft and control his professional life  What Anthony learned about being a leader during his time as COO of Twitter  How leaders should go about completing their visions and desires  What keeps Anthony up at night and what gets in his skin as a leader  Anthony’s leadership philosophy  The mental and emotional skills Anthony believes are critical to becoming a great leader  How Anthony manages himself and maintains his composure  How Anthony creates a space for his emotions   What Anthony did first in terms of culture when he first joined SoFi  How Anthony goes about building a great culture    Three Key Points:  There’s a thin line between success and failure. Those that chase problems rather than run from them are more likely to succeed.   To succeed as a leader, one needs to show composure, drive structure, and bring people together that are worried or scared.  To be a great leader in uncertain times, you need to have the ability to keep everyone calm.   Resources Mentioned:  HigherEchelon.com  The Man in the Arena by Theodore Roosevelt - (please hyperlink: https://www.artofmanliness.com/articles/manvotional-the-man-in-the-arena-by-theodore-roosevelt/)  The Fighting Spirit: A Championship Season at Notre Dame by Lou Holtz - (please hyperlink: https://www.amazon.com/Fighting-Spirit-Championship-Season-Notre/dp/0671676733)  Anthony Noto LinkedIn

Anthony Trucks was placed in the foster care system at a young age and grew up not having a good sense of his own identity. On today’s show, you’ll hear how he finally ended up in a home as the only black person in an all-white family, and how he overcame his challenges and setting some big goals which led to him being awarded a scholarship to play at the University of Oregon. From there he did some amazing things from playing in the NFL to appearing on the American Ninja Warrior TV show.  Anthony had some huge ups and downs (almost going bankrupt after opening up his own gym) and realized that success only happens when who you are to your core, your identity, aligns with your life’s vision. It’s through his own struggles and triumphs that he now coaches others to get through their own identity shift in order to create the life that they deserve. He dives into his methods and the importance of knowing your identity first, even before you work on your mindset. After you have listened, we have some great shows from our vault you should check out, including our show with Christine McDannell and Jon Margalit that deals with mindset, chatting with billionaires, and getting valuable feedback to make better business decisions.  “When you put time into something, and it’s no longer something you can do, whether it’s a kid doing to college, leaving the military, someone passing away, the relationship falls apart, whatever it might be...you’ve given it all and you can’t do it anymore, it breaks you and you don’t even know who you are. I didn’t even know who I was without football.” - Anthony Trucks Some Topics We Discussed Include: You are the tree, not the fruit - and other wise words  The importance of knowing your identity Shining a light on your dark moments and how one very dark period in Anthony’s life almost pushed him over the edge  How Anthony got onto the Ninja Warrior show and impressed the hosts Matt’s reminisces of being a nervous interviewer way back in the day (hard to believe!) Business taxes. Do you feel the same feeling of dread that most people do when they hear those words? Taxes are one of those things most of us find difficult - and the guest we’ve invited to be with us on this episode wants to give us reason to think differently about the issue. He actually believes that a tax return is a thing of beauty, something to be used for assessment and planning. He also believes it's when accompanied by the counsel of a professional who can help you understand what your tax return means. How’s that for a new way of thinking?  Join us for this episode, where we speak with Anthony Mauriello, a tax accountant who specializes in business returns, leads a team of 11 people, and processes around 4000 tax returns every tax season. And he loves it. You’ll want to hear this one - Anthony is a guy who is excited about taxes, and he just might get you excited about your taxes too (Dean was). Why do most entrepreneurs get lazy when it comes to their business taxes? We have to admit there’s a stigma about business taxes, a strange way of thinking that convinces us that it’s not fun and that we should avoid dealing with the issue. Anthony says there is lots of psychological baggage - guilt, fear, etc. - associated with money and taxes, but that most of it is inaccurate and none of it has to control the way we handle our finances. Listen to this episode and you’ll be amazed at how Anthony can not only make your taxes sound like something you don’t have to dread, he’s also got a seemingly magical ability to make your business tax return into a thing of beauty that helps you more than it scares you. His advice is golden, so be sure you listen.  Why your business tax return is a beautiful piece of art Anthony loves business tax returns because they are like a snapshot, a by-product of what’s happened in the past so you can plan in the present to make a better future. Not only do you want to understand and know your net profit or loss, your tax return will also enable you to pinpoint the categories where mistakes and choices were made that have impacted whether you were profitable or not. Using your tax return, you can chart a course for the future where you don’t have to be afraid of what’s going to happen financially. You and your accountant can co-create a path to a better future (the next year). By assessing your business tax return together, you have the opportunity to be proactive, considerate, and act with integrity to legally minimize your tax liability going forward. That’s something ALL of us want, but can only be accomplished by seeing your tax return as the amazing tool and opportunity that it is. What should a business owner do to be more in touch with her taxes? OK, if you’re convinced that you need to pay more attention to your tax situation, what should you do? Anthony wisely points out that a one-time change to the path of a boat can bring it back on course. He applies that analogy to the reality that you need to be speaking with the people who handle your finances regularly. It doesn’t take much to ensure you know where your financial ship is headed, and if you maintain the discipline of quarterly conversations, the changes you’ll need to make will be minimal.  Anthony says that the worst clients he works with (though he loves them all) are those who come in after the year ends looking for ways to minimize their tax liability - and more times than not they receive a huge shock when they learn what they owe. There’s nothing proactive about that - and Anthony loves helping business owners make the changes needed to BE proactive and avoid that sticker shock at the end of the year. What should you ask your accountant to understand your tax situation? It’s not uncommon for CPAs or other accounting professionals to be a bit challenged when it comes to explaining the various approaches to taxes. Anthony says that you should make a point to interview the people helping with your taxes. You want to discover their experience working on taxes related to your industry and take the time to get acquainted on a more personal level. The better you know and trust each other, the better you’ll work together in proactive ways... and the more likely you'll be to get the right people on your team. You can even do this with someone you’ve worked with for a long time. If you tell them that you’re taking a greater interest in your tax situation, they’ll honestly be very glad to help you. As you have those conversations, be sure you understand what the various figures mean and how you can modify your financial habits to minimize your tax liability. Join us for this episode. You’ll not only be amazed at how helpful your business tax return can be, but you'll also be surprised at how giddy with excitement Anthony is about helping you use it to its fullest potential. And in our interview segment, Anthony Iannarino looks at operating on the creative plane of sales when it comes to competition. That and more on today's show.   Bob's Thought of the Day   We'll explore:   A powerful reminder from Wallace D. Wattles' 1910 classic, The Science of Getting Rich, to operate on the “creative plane” rather than on the “competitive plane.” Why it is indeed important to understand your competition. The difference between focusing on your competition and being aware of them.   Interview with Anthony Iannarino   You'll discover:   What it means to create compelling differentiated value. Practical ways to develop a competitive advantage. The difference between a red ocean strategy and a blue ocean strategy. The biggest obstacles to competitive displacement. The biggest mistake salespeople make when pursuing a new account. How to offer value to your potential client in your first meeting. The difference between the CEO of the problem and the CEO of the company. How Anthony's OutBound 2019 event can help salespeople and sales managers. The link between leadership and accountability. So, what exactly is BrickX, I hear you ask? Well, it is a fractional investment platform that has democratised the property investment platform for all Australians. By allowing people to invest in a ‘brick’ - that is, one 10,000th of the value of a typical investment property - investors can now enter the highly competitive Australian market for a fraction of the price… in some cases, less than $100. Founded in 2014, the platform has since grown at a tremendous pace. Now, it should be worth noting that since we’ve recorded this podcast, BrickX has received an investment from Westpac’s Reinventure Group and was recently awarded the a suite of awards from Canstar, AREA and Fintech business. We sat down with Anthony in the middle of 2017. Over the course of 20 minutes, we’ll be talking about: How Anthony’s personal journey has taken him from turning a struggling family business around in his native UK to the CEO of one of Australia’s hottest startups; We look at how a intense affordability pressure, a property boom, new technology and the ‘power of the crowd’ created the perfect conditions for Brick to flourish; And finally, we’ll explore Anthony’s thoughts on what the future of home ownership is in Australia and how BrickX will likely play out in the future. When Anthony first saw Nigel Green’s article about developing listening skills for salespeople, he knew it was time to ask him to be a guest on In The Arena. Anthony and Nigel met long ago through a mutual acquaintance but it was that post that reminded Anthony how much Nigel has to share with salespeople about listening, sales effectiveness, and scaling a sales force. This conversation is a powerful demonstration of that. You’ll learn some of the most common things salespeople do wrong in sales calls instead of listening to their prospects, practical things you can do to improve your listening skills, and common mistakes made in scaling a sales team. Nigel Green on the Vital Role of Listening Skills for Salespeople - Ep 90Click To Tweet Everyone communicates, but few listen. It’s especially true in sales. Listening is about understanding. Said that way it makes perfect sense why salespeople need to be among the most intentional listeners on the planet. It’s only as we listen that we are able to understand what our prospects truly need, which is the only way we can know if we have the solution to that need. Nigel Green has built a career in sales management and is the founder and CEO of Evergreen, a B2B sales consulting firm. He consults for companies needing to improve their sales teams and is a sales coach for executives eager to grow their business by making sales process improvements. His insights into the skill of listening point out things every salesperson needs to master, so pay close attention to what he shares in this conversation. You won’t know what to offer a prospect if you don’t listen to what they need. Nigel Green tells the story of a time in the early stages of his sales career when his manager gave him a gift - a performance improvement plan. His sales were lagging and he needed to identify his weaknesses and build them into strengths. He spent time with the top sales performers in his company, expecting to discover their magical formulas for sales pitches and perfect closes. He was disappointed because he learned neither. But what he did learn was invaluable to his future success: the top performers knew how to ask questions and truly listen to their prospects. That skillset makes all the difference on a number of levels. You can hear Nigel describe the importance and power of listening skills for salespeople, on this episode of In The Arena. You won’t know what to offer a prospect if you don’t listen to what they needClick To Tweet Why would top performers not be on a performance improvement plan? As Nigel Green told the story of how he was placed on a performance improvement plan early in his career by his sales manager, Anthony commented that he believes everyone needs to be on a performance improvement plan. Think about it: even the top performers should desire to become better at what they do. Improving performance is the name of the game. It’s likely why you are considering listening to this podcast episode. If so, you’re in the right place because Nigel and Anthony discuss one of the most important skills you can ever have as a salesperson: the skill of listening. When speed to scale is what you want, you have to differentiate roles in the organization. For successful sales organizations, the time comes when the volume of incoming leads demands that the team scale. It’s a great problem we’d all like to have. When that happens, a common mistake is to assume that the roles and responsibilities that currently exist within the team are going to be adequate to support the increased weight and volume of incoming clients. It’s typically not true. Nigel Green shares why it’s vital that growing organizations simplify role responsibilities and diversify the team as they move to scale, on this episode. Anthony Michael: Chicago Designer of High-end Homes and Yacht Design On this episode of The Chaise Lounge, Nick chats with Anthony Michael of Anthony Michael Interior Design. Anthony is passionate about design and shares his 30+ history in the industry, how he manages clients and his enthusiasm for yacht projects. Getting to know Anthony  Anthony Michael is calling in from Lincoln Park, but didn't grow up far from there. He loves Romantic Comedies, especially Under the Tuscan Sun. Anthony loves bracelets, shoes, and sunglasses - and owns an abundance of all three! Though Anthony can't even think about not being a designer, he imagines that he would be a teacher, writer, chef, or even an archaeologist. How Anthony got into design Growing up, Anthony's mom always had a project going. The house was in chaos, but he was always intrigued with the process and transformation. As a young kid, he found himself reading Architectural Digest and House Beautiful, not comics like his friends. Anthony went on to pursue a Bachelor's degree in architecture and ultimately a Master's abroad, in Paris. His mindset totally switched from survival to expanding his knowledge. After school, Anthony worked for someone else but found it difficult to not follow his own thoughts and opinions. He understood the value of working your way up in a business, as his parents always owned restaurants, but found it tough in this instance. Anthony opened his own firm with a $5000 loan. His first client, Mrs. Banks, is one of his best supporters, and the rest is history. What the business looks like today Anthony mentions the ebbs and flows of the business. He currently employs about 8 individuals who work on 20+ projects at a time within the US and Puerto Rico. The projects include repeat customers, high-end residential, and restoring yachts. Anthony believes in giving clients what they want but knows to keep in mind that he was hired for a reason- his expertise. He lives vicariously through his clients. Anthony and his team do not work in phases, but rather on whole homes. His firm does not stage homes to sell, but when a home designed by him is on the market, it is often furnished and sold quickly. Managing a client Anthony and his team have honed in a process for interacting with clients that includes: a first meeting to get an idea of each other's personalities, budget, and expectations; then a presentation of image boards, textiles, and floor plans; next a follow up with all details, elevations, etc; followed by a budget meeting. Around week eight, project work begins. Anthony kicks the client out for about a week until the project is installed and revealed. He then meets with the client the next day to review and walk through tutorials. Anthony and his team take care of this client all year, even decorating for the holidays! The approach is very proactive and tends to eliminate issues that could pop up. Designing yachts Growing up, Anthony's parents had a boat that they restored over 15 years ago, Anthony found a boat in bad condition and ended up restoring it himself over the next nine months. People noticed the boat and Anthony. He was able to make a nice profit and continue the process every year. Each year, the project grows and Anthony continues to learn more and more about the materials and design for yachts. His next boat is launching on June 15.                           Getting the word out Anthony relies on word of mouth and repeat customers. He saw a need for keeping up with marketing and decided to employ an in-house team for social media, editorial content, and influencer relationship management. He cited the old adage, “Spend money to make money.” Anthony and his business continue to evolve, and he hires people who are smarter than him! Learn more at Anthony Michael Interior Design. Lewis Howes: What Is Greatness and How to Be Great – Episode #68

What is greatness? Have you ever thought about it? We look at athletes and leaders and musicians and say they are “great,” but what do we really mean? It has something to do with skill and competence, but there’s more to it than that. It has to do with the character that has enabled that person to achieve the things they have, to attain levels of expertise or knowledge or ability that few others reach. On this episode Lewis Howes talks with Anthony about what it means to be great and what it takes to get there. You won’t hear a better conversation on the subject of greatness, so be sure you set aside the time to listen to this one. Lewis Howes on What Is Greatness and How to Be Great - on this episodeClick To Tweet Becoming a great speaker, entrepreneur, and coach. Lewis Howes was a 20-something year old when he walked into an Ohio Toastmasters group where he first met Anthony Iannarino. It was there that Anthony saw Lewis mature into a truly powerful speaker who was aiming at the top - at greatness. The two of them quickly became friends and each think deeply about the subject of greatness - that’s why this conversation is so enjoyable. You’ll hear Lewis talk about his own pursuit of greatness as a speaker, business leader, coach, and athlete - and you’ll get to hear his thoughts on what truly makes a person great in any discipline. What does it take to achieve greatness? When asked the question Lewis Howes gives a few responses. First, in order to achieve greatness Lewis believes that you have to believe that you are worthy to reach the point of being called “great.” If you’re not able to believe that you deserve it you’ll likely never be able to accomplish it - and even if you do, you won’t believe you have. But more so, it has to do with belief in your ability to reach a point of greatness at all. If you want to hear more of Lewis’ insights into the topic this episode is for you. What does it take to achieve greatness?Click To Tweet What is greatness? How would YOU define it? Naturally, every discipline or area has its own particulars as to what makes someone “great” in the field of competitors or participants. For that reason alone “greatness” cannot be defined by a set of acquired skills. It has more to do with the inner person, the character, discipline, and mindset they bring to the things they do. On this episode Lewis Howes shares his insights about the question, “What is greatness?” by retelling some of the stories and situations from his podcast interview series, “The School of Greatness.” Would you like to attend Lewis Howes’ Summit of Greatness for $100 off? Anthony first became aware of Nancy Duarte when he watched the Al Gore TED talk that featured the slide deck created by Nancy Duarte and her team. That’s when he began grabbing her books every time they came out and applying her concepts about storytelling and leadership to the things he was doing in the sales world. On this episode Anthony has the honor of speaking with Nancy and the co-author of her latest book “Illuminate,” Patti Sanchez. You’ll get an earful of great advice about how leaders can use stories to lead people where they need to go, on this episode. We need to understand storytelling on a larger scale ~ Nancy DuarteClick To Tweet Why leaders are torchbearers and the difference their role can make. Leaders, by definition, are leading people into something new, or different, or needed. It’s in this way that they carry a torch, illuminating the way before the team as they all move forward. Part of the way that good leaders do that is by leading with vision, empathy, and a deep understanding of the things that motivate their followers to move into unknown territory. The same principles apply for the salesperson who is truly trying to help their prospects move toward a purchase that will supply the solution to their problems. You’ll learn a lot on this episode, not just about leadership but about how salespeople can be leaders to their clients. Why leaders are often accused of lacking empathy. We all know that leaders are characteristically hard driving, vision oriented people. With a bent like that it’s not uncommon for leaders to be accused of lacking empathy toward those they are attempting to lead. The reason for that is simple: leaders tend to see the end goal or the vision very clearly and need to slow down long enough to understand that their followers likely don’t have the same clarity or drive that they possess. On this episode Nancy Duarte and Pattie Sanchez chat with Anthony about how leaders can modify their approach to leadership in ways that enable their followers to actually follow with more of their hearts invested. Many leaders focus too much on the “how” and not enough on the “why” ~ Anthony IannarinoClick To Tweet Many leaders and salespeople focus too much on the “what” and not enough on the “why.” In this great conversation Nancy Duarte and Patti Sanchez point out that leaders often emphasize the methods or steps that they intend for their teams to take in order to reach a goal. That’s good for as far as it goes, but that’s a long way from helping them understand WHY the goal they are headed toward is so doggone important in the first place. Helping your followers or prospects understand the NEED for the end goal, be it an accomplishment or a sale, is the most important aspect of good leadership because it is what maintains focus and motivation over the long haul. You can hear more on this episode of In The Arena. People don’t do things for your reasons, they do things for their reasons. In this conversation a great point is made in noticing that people don’t act because a boss, leader, or salesperson want them to act or think they should act, they take action because they have a personal and internal reason for acting. A good salesperson or leader becomes skilled at asking the kind of questions that reveal the true motives underlying the contemplation of a decision, so they can lead toward a decision in the most effective way. You’ll enjoy the creative and helpful insights you hear on this episode. People don’t do things for your reasons.
