What if the most important training you'll ever do happens nowhere near a barbell?Annie Thorisdottir and her co-writer Christine Bald join Patrick to discuss their new book, Iceland Annie: The Evolution of a CrossFit Games Legend — five years in the making and built on a prologue Christine wrote before Annie ever agreed to write it.You'll hear why Annie believes character is trained the same way fitness is: in private, repeatedly, often without immediate reward. And you'll hear Christine on the discipline required to prepare for moments you can't anticipate. Together, they make the case that what most people see on the podium is the smallest part of what it took to get there.
This week I want to discuss the importance of recognizing and defining personal lines of acceptability, and how these lines influence our lives and leadership. I'm also covering the gradual erosion of standards, and the necessity of raising the floor of our expectations rather than just aiming for higher ceilings.I want you to walk away from this episode reflecting on your own standards and drawing new lines that align with your true potential.--Links & resources:Purchase my new book, Level Up Your LeadershipTo follow more info about the podcast@levelup.debbienealCheck out my personal instagram account@debbie_neal
“Causality is this foundation that really allows us to anchor what we're trying to do when we're telling stories.”Storytelling doesn't require a dramatic narrative. For behavioral scientist and former Disney Imagineer Troy Campbell, even everyday information can become a story when we explain the “because” behind it, connecting what happened to why it matters. In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Campbell joins Matt Abrahams to unpack the psychology behind storytelling and persuasion. From structuring ideas around goals, insights, and actions to creating “portals” that prepare audiences for what comes next, he shares practical ways to make communication more relevant, persuasive, and memorable.Takeaways:Stories are built on cause and change. Connecting information through the “because” behind it turns isolated facts into a narrative that helps audiences understand why something happened and why it matters.Start by preparing your audience for what comes next. Effective “portals” create anticipation, shift people into the right mindset, and provide just enough context to help them engage with your message.Activity:Create a portal. Choose an upcoming meeting or presentation and redesign the first minute to prepare your audience for what follows. Build an opening that creates anticipation, shifts their mindset, and previews where you're taking them before diving into the main content. To listen to the extended Deep Thinks version of this episode, please visit FasterSmarter.io/premium.Episode Reference Links:Troy CampbellEp.156 Creative Communication: How Our Design Choices Illustrate O… Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedIn Chapters:(00:00) - Introduction (00:56) - The Power of “Because” (01:58) - Stories in Everyday Jobs (03:03) - Goal, Insight, Action (06:32) - Overcoming Change Resistance (11:34) - Creating Powerful Portals (17:54) - The Final Three Questions (23:35) - Conclusion
This FINALLY Cured My Fear Of Criticism and Judgement
Hi Mamas, , What if the goal isn't to get better at doing everything... but to make some of it easier? As busy working moms, we become incredibly capable. We manage careers, kids, calendars, meals, appointments, school activities, relationships, homes—and about a million tiny details no one else seems to realize we're keeping track of. And somewhere along the way, we can start believing that because we're capable of doing it all, we should do it all. But this week's Monday Mindset is your reminder: “Every task you simplify creates space for something that matters more.” Because simplifying your life isn't just about saving time. It's about deciding what you want to do with the time you get back. Maybe simplifying dinner gives you more time to sit with your family. Maybe automating a task gives you time to take a walk. Maybe delegating something gives you more patience with your kids. Maybe finding a faster way to handle something at work helps you close your laptop on time. Or maybe that extra time gives you a few minutes to sit on the couch and do absolutely nothing—and yes, mama, that counts too. In today's Monday Mindset, we're talking about why being capable doesn't mean you have to do everything yourself, why productivity shouldn't simply mean squeezing more into your day, and how simplifying the small things can help reduce your mental load and create more work-life balance. Because the goal isn't to become more efficient so you can do more. The goal is to become more efficient so you have more room for the people, priorities and moments that matter most.

Welcome to the eighth and final episode of the Coach's Corner Series! Today, I sit down with Coach Rae to talk about something we don't see many functional health companies address: relationship with food. We dig into why diet culture and social media have made it so hard for women to feel at peace with food, from the Britney Spears waist era to today's constant stream of body trends. Coach Rae shares the signs she looks for when a client's relationship with food might need extra attention, from fear of carbs to being afraid to keep certain foods in the house. We talk about why functional health can't just be labs, meal plans, and supplements, and why the mindset work around food fear matters just as much as the physical protocols. Rae walks us through how she approaches clients with real GI symptoms who are afraid to eat, including how elimination diets can help separate true food sensitivities from fear driven reactions. She also opens up about her own twenty plus year journey with food and control, and why curiosity with yourself is often the starting point for change. We then talk through the personality patterns she sees most often, the anxious perfectionists who feel safest when they're in control of their food, and why that sense of control can actually make your nervous system more fragile over time. Rae reminds listeners that struggling with food isn't about a lack of discipline, and that healing is possible no matter how long you've felt stuck. This is a real, honest conversation about what it actually looks like to build freedom and peace with food. What if you don't actually need another diet, workout, supplement, or piece of health advice? What if you already know what you need to do—but you're avoiding it? Maybe you know you need to eat a better breakfast, reduce your portions, start walking, strength train, get more sleep, or set a boundary. But instead of doing that thing, you find yourself searching for the newest health trend, researching another plan, or looking for something that feels a little easier. If you've been wondering why you know what to do but still struggle to follow through, this episode will help you look at your health and habits in a different way. Mentioned in this episode:
Life is far too complicated to reduce a human being to a thousand decisions. But as a metaphor?I think there is something incredibly valuable here.Because so much of where we find ourselves today is the accumulated result of things that happened repeatedly before today. Not yesterday. Not last weekend. Not the last seven days.Often…years.And that is what I want to talk about all week.Resources: Brain.fm App(First month Free, then 20% off subscription)Discount Code: coachdamiensdLinks:IG:@coachdamien_sd@damienrayevans@livinthedream_podcast YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS6VuPgtVsdBpDj5oN3YQTgFB:https://www.facebook.com/coachdamienSD/

Through personal reflections and a meaningful client story, Dr. Tarryn shows how following what genuinely energizes you can restore purpose, creativity, and connection. You'll also hear why guilt, pressure, and the constant urge to do more can pull you away from the things that help you feel like yourself. AI is rapidly changing what it means to be human, but is AI development truly human-centered? According to Aza Raskin, co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology, the answer is largely “no.” The man who invented the “infinite scroll” is now working to understand why the most powerful technology so often fails to prioritize the human experience and our collective well-being. Raskin is also leading the Earth Species Project — using AI to better understand the animals that live alongside us, by unlocking patterns in vast amounts of data on animal communication. You've built the capital. You know how to make money. And you've been doing everything you think you should be doing to build wealth. But have you ever stopped to ask: am I driving a Honda Civic or a Lamborghini? Most women measure their portfolio by how much gasoline they keep putting into the tank - $20K here, $50K there, without ever stopping to ask what kind of car they're actually driving. And putting premium gas into a '92 Honda Civic does not turn it into a Lamborghini. Tune in to learn: The scoreboard most women are measuring vs. the one that actually dictates the speed of your wealth. The anatomy of a Lamborghini portfolio and why more is not better. How a Lamborghini portfolio is very different from a Honda portfolio. How to think about outsourcing your wealth in a way that completely flips everything you've been taught on its head.

Dr. Paul Jenkins welcomes Marty Hofmann to this episode of Live On Purpose Radio to discuss a powerful concept: killing complacency. Marty Hofmann, author of the book "Kill Complacency," joins Dr. Paul in a conversation about intentionally creating the life you love by avoiding the passive acceptance of the status quo. Marty's insights draw from his own journey and highlight how complacency can quietly sabotage our lives, leading us to live on autopilot rather than with purpose. For those who find themselves too caught up in the whirlwind of daily routines, this episode serves as a timely reminder that life is not a rehearsal. Tune in to discover practical strategies for making small, consistent changes that can lead to significant transformations. Visit the podcast at Live On Purpose Radio to engage more deeply and make a conscious choice to live a life on purpose.
Today we're talking about what it really looks like to go from a home to a homestead, and I get to answer a question I've been asked for years in real time: If I had it all to do over again, what would I do differently? Holler Roast is up 20% since the weeks of the fair Thanks, y'all! Main Topic: From Home To Homestead One of the questions I get when on panels and suck is "If you had it to do all over again, how would you build your homestead?" Or "What are the 2 or 3 biggest mistakes you made early on in building your homestead?" As homestead advising types we tend to tell people to build things one at a time and go slowly so that you can get your systems working. Or we say get a permaculture plan in place first. Or we have more practical advice like infrastructure before livestock, get your zone 0 in place before you do anything else, etc All these things are true and not true at the same time What is homesteading? The eternal question, more controversial than what is off grid? (Reminds me of the how libertarian are you arguments) Homestead Where You Are Is land required? Mindset change Ongoing learning Then came the question: If you had it all to fro over again Holler Hub being developed for a year with Basecamp Lodge as the event center Fighting a type one error at the Holler Homestead where I live Acceleration of the challenges this year, remediation, health impacts, processing past grief and letting things go that hold you back (Resentment episode) So if I had it to do all over again, how would I build my homestead differently? That is a question you can't really answer unless you are doing it The opportunity The reality: move, brought almost nothing with me, sourcing all new personal items as well as transforming basecamp into a homestead that can accommodate events AND serve as a live learning model for others who want an immersive experience in growing food and health living Pros: I own the property and home Its got good bones I have the experience and connections to do this right We are already set up with a basement classroom and open concept kitchen that works great for teaching I have income streams developed I am really good at "If I cannot do x then what CAN I do? Cons: this is a normal house not a home set up to accommodate pantry, power outages, processing animals and food, gardening, etc. (Now fuel efficient) I come to this without the funds to do it in my personal checking account I am still encumbered by past messes (although fewer) that I have made for. Myself This will be very much like when I was younger on the homestead and was just starting out, only I am not, in fact younger :D Plastics So how will we start? The assessment is this week. What have we got? What do we need? How will we navigate what to do first? This may become the constant topic of the podcast or a segment - I don't really know, But it is the BUILDING of the Holler Hub in real time and I am excited to finally answer the question for real - what would you do if you had it all to do over again? I guess we will find out. But one thing is true - the one most important part of homesteading that you can never let languish - BE FEARLESS.

What are the things we can do today to help minimize our chances of developing dementia as we age?Dr. Tommy Wood is a physician and neuroscientist, Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Neuroscience at the University of Washington, and author of The Stimulated Mind. The book takes on a belief many of us still hold, that the adult brain becomes fixed at an early age and then declines from there. Tommy traces that idea back to 1906 and to the words of a Nobel laureate. Then he unpacks what the latest research and data say, and it's not what you might think. This is a conversation about a tough subject, mental decline and dementia. Many of us have been touched by this in our own families, and what Tommy has to say gives all of us hope that we have more agency than we think when it comes to this part of our health.Tommy and Mike get into the 14 modifiable risk factors named by the Lancet Commission, why midlife is when risk starts to diverge, and the three buckets Tommy sorts everything into: stimulus, supply, and support. Mike talks about his grandfather, who had vascular dementia and covered for it so well that the family did not see it for years.Tommy tells us that “At 70 years old now, you are less likely to be diagnosed with dementia than any other time in history.” The trajectory is not fixed, but there's a lot more work to be done.Enjoy the conversation.____________________________________________Links & ResourcesDr. Tommy Wood's Website: drtommywood.comDr. Tommy Wood's Book: The Stimulated Mind: Future-Proof Your Brain from Dementia and Stay Sharp at Any AgeBetterBrain, where Tommy is Chief Science Officer: betterbrain.comSubscribe to our Youtube Channel for more conversations at the intersection of high performance, leadership, and wellbeing: https://www.youtube.com/c/FindingMasteryGet exclusive discounts and support our amazing sponsors!Go to: https://findingmastery.com/sponsors/Subscribe to the Finding Mastery newsletter for weekly high performance insights: https://www.findingmastery.com/newsletterDownload Dr. Mike's Morning Mindset Routine: findingmastery.com/morningmindsetFollow on YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, and XSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
