Join us for another Episode of the Scrap, this time with Marshall Boyd, a 23-year veteran of two small fire departments south of Houston. We discuss imposter syndrome, sharing how he's worked to impact his corner of the fire service despite feeling like “no one from nowhere.” Marshall explores the shift in firefighting tactics over the years, and the process of making the change... from fiberglass poles to modern tools, and the importance of perspective in adapting to change. We discuss and compare career and volunteer firefighting, the mission remains the same regardless of pay. Marshall also covers leadership as influence, especially in volunteer settings where there's no leverage, and why making the job personal drives his work. Expect insights on through-the-lock forcible entry and the challenges of moving from the truck to the buggy. And as always... our best laid plans were beautifully derailed by the awesome questions from the live audience!!!!

What you think of yourself is directly correlated with the kind of man you are or will become. If you believe yourself to be a victim of circumstances beyond your control, you will be. If, alternatively, you believe the world is conspiring for your benefit, it will be. It is quite literally self-fulfilling prophesy. My guest today, Jay Jairdullo, knows exactly what this is like after spending 25 years in law enforcement and now a college wrestling coach, he has had to redefine himself over and over again. Today, Jay and I talk about what he calls “false masculinity,” avoiding slipping back into old patterns, the importance of core values, overcoming the victimhood mentality, and keeping yourself and others off pedestals you don't belong. Megan ran 8:21:51 to win the Run Rabbit Run 50 Mile, in one of the fastest times ever! This episode is a celebration of a wild and unexpected journey. She had only done one 50-mile race before, back in 2017. Then there was a heart issue, a hamstring surgery, pregnancy with Leo and Ollie, and so much more that the world will never see. She kept showing up though, even when her workout was walking 1 mph uphill. On Saturday, she showed up again, stepping into the unknown of a high-altitude mountain ultra with a “growth and grace” mindset! We break down the whole day and why she first considered this race back in January, 1 week after giving birth to Ollie. Topics include: questions on the build-up, lower-mileage training, tapering, high-carb nutrition, and mindset, plus deep thoughts on the athletic journey, parenting, and life. Near the end of the episode, we have a tone shift and talk about the sad news from last week that Joyline Chepngeno tested positive before her history-making win at OCC. As always, we urge compassion for the individual while being skeptical of the system, and we try to end on a hopeful note for the future.Out on the course, Megan got so many “woohoo” and “huzzah” cheers. We love you all so much. Podcast listeners get 5 stars.Stick around to the end of the episode to hear what gets the rare 13/10 rating. Some conversations feel like soul connections, and that's exactly how I felt sitting down with Dr. Erica Kreismann. Her journey from emergency medicine in New York—beginning just months before 9/11—to packing up her family and moving across the world to Tasmania is nothing short of remarkable. Through it all, what stands out most is her adventurous spirit, her heart for service, and her deep belief in the power of presence. In our conversation, Erica shares how burnout pushed her to reimagine life, what Tasmania taught her about slowing down, and why connection—whether with patients, colleagues, or loved ones—is the true heartbeat of healing. We talk about embracing fear as part of growth, letting go of judgment to make space for curiosity, and the life-changing shift that comes when you finally choose to fill your own cup first.A few gems you'll hear along the way:Why learning to be present is one of the greatest skills we can practiceHow fear isn't a sign to stop—it's an invitation to step forward with courageThe radical responsibility we must take for our healing and growthErica's story is a powerful reminder that life is an adventure meant to be lived fully, even when it feels uncertain.– Connect with Dr. Erica Kreismann:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/erica-kreismann/Website: https://www.onewildcoaching.com/ –Connect with Deanna:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/deannaherrin/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deanna-herrin/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thedeannaherrinWebsite: http://www.deannaherrin.net
310 – Do you ever look God in the face? It's probably not on the top of your to-do list. It's probably not something you think about very often or even consider as a possibility. In fact, you may not want to talk to God face to face, for a variety of reasons. And what does that even mean, to look at God this way? To talk to God this way?Doesn't the Bible say you can't see God's face?Yes it does, but it also talks about Moses and God talking face to face. This week's episode jumps into the idea of Talking to God face to face What it really meansWhy you don't need to be afraid of itThe blessings that come when you have this kind of intimate relationship with GodYou can talk face to face with God at any moment for any reason. You might have something on your mind. You might feel the need to repent. You might have a question. You might just want to express gratitude and tell God you love Him. But you don't have to have an agenda. You can just ask God what He thinks, what He sees, what He's doing, how He loves or what He wants you to do.Previous episodes mentioned this week:Episode 37: You Are the Image and Likeness of God. Latinos are no longer an “up-and-coming” community. The numbers tell a different story. By 2050, one in three Americans will be Latino. Today, 78% of new workers entering the labor force are Hispanic, and Latino-owned businesses are growing 10 times faster than white-owned businesses. Bilingualism has become a cultural and business superpower, and the contributions of our community are fueling the economy, culture, and future of the United States. Yet, even with this undeniable growth, representation and opportunity do not always reflect our impact. In this episode of Amiga, Handle Your Shit, we welcome back our amigas Marisela Arechiga and Lizette Espinoza. Together, we have an honest conversation about what the data means for our future, how to raise bicultural families while honoring immigrant legacies, and why mindset shifts are critical if Latinas want to move from consumers to investors, from employees to entrepreneurs, and from overlooked voices to decision-makers.Tune in to episode 248 to hear us unpack Hollywood's gatekeeping and the lack of Latino-led stories, the challenges of raising kids in a consumer-driven, social media-saturated culture, and why education and parenting must push the next generation to think beyond worker-bee mindsets. We also discuss how community, mentorship, and financial literacy can break cycles of fear and scarcity, helping Latinas step fully into their power as leaders, wealth-builders, and cultural changemakers. If you are ready for real talk on how Latinas are shaping America now and what it takes to ensure our future, this conversation will leave you informed, inspired, and motivated to act.Episode TakeawaysWhy speaking Spanish at home is both a cultural connection and a business superpower (03:50)The data: Hispanics are projected to account for 78% of net new workers between 2020 and 2030 (07:00)Why Hollywood resists Latino-led stories and Marisela's HGTV pitch experience (12:10)The role of decision-makers and gatekeeping in representation (14:00)Why thinking like an employee keeps you stuck as an employee (22:00)The pressure of social media on today's Latino youth (24:00)“You're working hard at playing small”: shifting from consumerism to investment (28:20)Why masterminds, mentorship, and community are key to breaking fear around money (35:30)Connect with Marisela Arechiga:InstagramNew Generation Home Improvements WebsiteNew Generation Home Improvements InstagramConnect with Lizette Espinosa:InstagramLinkedInInfanttech's WebsiteLet's Connect!WebsiteFacebookInstagramArbonne's websiteBook: The AMIGA Way Hosted on Acast. Hi Mamas, Grab your FREE Ticket to the CEO Mom Breakthrough Summit here This week's Monday Mindset Reset is inspired by a whirlwind of a week… but in the best way. I was asked to be a virtual guest speaker at the CEO Mom Breakthrough Summit… a space for moms who are chasing their dreams, building businesses, and still choosing to be present, intentional mamas. What an honor to be included! My contribution to the summit was a 30-minute workshop where I teach my Meal Planning Made Simple method. Which sounds simple… but behind the scenes it meant creating a workshop from scratch, building the presentation, recording, teaching myself to edit video for the first time, and submitting it on deadline… all while still working my corporate job, managing kids' activities, fitting in a date night with Russ, and keeping up with life. ✨ And here's the best part… you're invited! It's a free virtual event kicking off September 17th. Even if you're not chasing 7 figures, you'll still get incredible tips and freebies on how to manage all the moving parts of working mom life. Grab your free seat here. But this week wasn't just about cranking out a workshop… it was about navigating it all without losing my mind. Which brings me to today's quote from Jana Kingsford:

If live feels extremely heavy right now, you're not alone. I once had a conversation with a mentor around this topic about what to do when life is just heavy. Sometimes we're weighed down because we aren't managing our thoughts well. Sometimes it's because we're in environments that don't serve us. But other times, life is just heavy and no amount of mindset work or environment shifts seem to fix it right away. In those moments, the best thing we can do is support ourselves until the heaviness passes. In this episode, I share practical and compassionate ways to care for yourself when you feel overwhelmed. We'll talk about why stepping away from social media protects your mental space, and how serving others whether with a simple text or through volunteering can actually ease your own burdens. You'll hear about the power of healthy community and why it's vital to resist the urge to isolate. I'll also share ideas for lighthearted activities that bring a sense of play, and small but powerful actions you can take for your body, like cooking a nourishing meal or going on a walk. We'll close by exploring gratitude practices, future-focused dreaming, and the importance of remembering that emotional states are temporary. Life isn't meant to feel easy all the time, but with the right tools, you can support yourself through the heavy seasons. On this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik speaks with Joni Marie Iraci—a registered nurse turned award-winning novelist—about late-life reinvention, earning an MFA in her 60s, and the craft behind her thriller Vatican Daughter. Joni breaks down how life experience fuels better storytelling, why continuing education can restart a creative career, and how rigorous research (including miles of walking Rome) elevates fiction. We also discuss mindset shifts from “victim” to “survivor,” practical marketing realities for authors, and how to keep your brain—and courage—active at any age. This is a direct, no-fluff playbook for midlife career change, creative discipline, and purpose. About the guest: Joni Marie Iraci is an author and former registered nurse who returned to college later in life, graduated from Sarah Lawrence, and earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. She writes page-turning, research-rich fiction centered on resilient women, including Vatican Daughter. Key takeaways: It's not “too late”: returning to school and embracing new work in your 50s–60s can accelerate creative growth. Leverage lived experience—humor, perspective, and resilience—to write more authentic stories. Practical path: continuing-education programs, steady writing practice, and peer feedback (younger peers can also help with tech). Research that breathes: site walks in Rome/Venice and primary-source study make settings feel real. Fact in fiction: historical events (e.g., 19th-century papal kidnappings) can inform compelling plots when handled responsibly. Craft note: give readers “reprieve scenes” (food, place, texture) to balance thriller intensity. Marketing is work: social media, endorsements, and reader outreach are part of an author's job. Mindset shift: write women who survive, not women defined by victimhood. Community matters: mentorship for emerging writers and asking boldly (blurbs, intros) opens doors. Cognitive wellness: keep learning, reading, and creating to sustain a sharp, purposeful mind. How to connect with Joni Website/contact form: Joni mentioned listeners can reach her via the contact page on her official author website - https://www.jonimarieiraci.com/ (search “Joni Marie Iraci” to find it). This episode might just change the way you see your body and your life forever. We're diving into some powerful ideas from The Biology of Belief by Dr. Bruce Lipton — a groundbreaking book that blends cell biology, quantum physics, and the power of thought into a single message:“You are not a victim of your genes. You are a creator of your biology.”Let me ask you something right off the bat:Have you ever felt like your body is working against you?Like no matter how well you eat… how hard you train… how many green smoothies you drink… you still feel stuck — in your energy, in your weight, in your health? Most people chalk that up to “bad genetics.” They say things like: “It runs in my family.” “I've always been this way.” “My body's just broken.”But what if I told you…That's not biology. That's a belief. And it turns out, your beliefs might just be the most powerful health intervention you've never been taught to use.Today's episode is going to challenge everything you thought you knew about your body, your brain, and your so-called “destiny.”Resources: Brain.fm App(First month Free, then 20% off subscription)Discount Code: coachdamiensdLinks:IG:@coachdamien_sd@damienrayevans@livinthedream_podcast YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS6VuPgtVsdBpDj5oN3YQTgFB:https://www.facebook.com/coachdamienSD/

Have you ever looked at someone who's done something so extraordinary that you thought, “I could never do that”? What if you could, and it simply meant changing the way you think? In this episode of the Visibly Fit Podcast, I sit down with Joe Gagnon, a man who has proven that what seems impossible is often just the beginning. At age 39, Joe was not an athlete. But he decided to make a change. That choice led him to run six marathons in six days on six continents, complete multiple Ironman races, and even finish the grueling Badwater 135 ultra-marathon across Death Valley.Joe shares how he reframed challenges, leaned into discomfort, and discovered the power of living with intention. His story is proof that it's never too late to start fresh, to rewrite your narrative, and to push past self-imposed limits. If you've ever felt stuck, too old to start, or overwhelmed by the thought of change, Joe's wisdom will encourage you to take one intentional step at a time toward the extraordinary life God designed for you.Chapters:[00:00] Podcast Preview[01:15] Topic and Guest Introduction[03:32] Introduction to Joe Gagnon and His Journey[06:36] The Breakout: From Average to Athlete[08:18] The Marathon Challenge: Six Marathons in Six Days[11:30] Why Self-Care Must Come First[14:24] The Power of Mindset in Pushing Limits[18:22] Finding Your Why: The Importance of Purpose[23:32] The Five Pillars of a High-Performance Life[27:58] Embracing Discomfort and Reframing Life's Challenges[28:40] The Journey to Plant-Based Living[31:47] Understanding Personal Choices and Their Impact[36:00] Taking the First Step Towards Change[38:03] Building a Success Plan and Celebrating Progress[41:17] Curiosity and Lifelong Learning[43:41] Where to Find Joe's Book Living Intentionally[45:17] Fun Family Traditions & Giving Back[47:08] Final Thoughts and ResourcesResources mentioned:Book: Living Intentionally by Joe GagnonEmail: jgagnon232@gmail.comDaily Blog: joecurious.substack.comWebsite: thehighperformancelife.netInstagram: @thehighperformancelifeLinkedIn: Joe Gagnon on LinkedInVisibly Fit 7-Week Accelerator ProgramConnect with today's guest:Joe Gagnon is a CEO, high-performance coach, endurance athlete, and author of Living Intentionally.
