More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
Send us a textIn this special Friday With Friends episode of More Than a Song, I'm joined by worship leader, songwriter, and author Tim Timmons—a voice many of us recognize from songs we've sung, but whose story gives those lyrics profound weight.Tim co-wrote Even If, a song rooted in the kind of faith that trusts God without guaranteed outcomes. That theology isn't abstract for Tim. Over twenty years ago, he received a terminal cancer diagnosis—and he's been living out an “even if” faith ever since. In our conversation, we talk honestly about suffering, grief, and gratitude. We explore how music becomes prayer when words are hard to find, how God's Word anchors us when faith feels fragile, and how joy and sorrow can coexist without canceling each other out.If you've ever felt worn out by performative faith—or needed permission to bring your real story to Jesus—this conversation is for you.In this episode, we talk about:Why Scripture still matters when life doesn't make senseHow suffering strips faith down to what's real and lastingThe story behind Tim's new book, Waking Up Again: A Journey of Grief and GratitudeSeeing his story portrayed in I Can Only Imagine 2, and what it was like watching that unfoldHolding joy and grief together in everyday lifeHow music helps us process pain and hope simultaneously as prayers to be sungTim's personal habits for staying engaged with God's WordA song recommendation you'll want on repeat (and we'll be using it for Monday's episode!)Connect with Tim: All the links to all the things are at https://michellenezat.com/timChange your music. Nutrition Nugget! Bite-sized bonus episodes offer tips, tricks and approachable science. This week, Jenn is talking about the C-C-C, which stands for Catch, Challenge, Change. Do your negative thoughts secretly sabotage your health goals? When that inner voice says "you're too busy," "you have no willpower," or "you've failed again," is it telling the truth or just repeating old patterns that hold you back? Jenn introduces a practical mental tool to interrupt the defeating thought loops we all experience on our wellness journeys. But here's the real question: are you actually too tired for that workout, or is something else going on? Could the "evidence" of failure actually be hiding signs of progress you're refusing to see? Jenn breaks down how to catch these negative thoughts in action, challenge the beliefs behind them, and ultimately transform your inner dialogue. But the approach might surprise you. Is it really about being "1% better every day," or is there a more realistic way to build mental toughness without the pressure? Like what you're hearing? David, the giant-slaying boy who would eventually become king of Israel, is mentioned over 1,000 times in the Bible. The youngest of eight children, David grew to become a powerful king, and some say he was also the original pop star, penning most of the 150 psalms included in the Bible. These songs were the hymnbook for Old Testament Jews, and continue to inspire well-known musical works today, including Leonard Cohen's “Hallelujah.”The 62nd Psalm was written by King David with a goal of reminding himself and others of the Lord's steadfast love. A man of immense power and influence, David wanted to encourage people to continue seeking the Lord and to trust Him with all their endeavors. Psalm 62:5 says, “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.”Some scholars see Psalm 62 as a warning: each of us possesses a certain amount of power over our own choices and circumstances, but we should not let our personal authority get in the way of our trust in God. King David had wise and experienced advisors at his side, and he commanded armies that did his bidding at home and abroad. Upon his orders, men could be rewarded or condemned. He certainly wielded a significant amount of power, yet he put his faith and his trust in God. Whether you sit at the helm of a large corporation, you lead a military regiment, or maybe you are the king or queen of your family's castle, let power rest not upon your own shoulders but ultimately with the Lord. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, like King David, we are mere mortals blessed with opportunities, gifted in unique ways, and called to follow you. Let us turn to you with full trust in your plan, and remember the source of all power is you, and not ourselves. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! In this thought-provoking solo episode of Modern Chiropractic Mastery, Dr. Kevin Christie dives deep into the hidden mental habits that quietly shape our decisions, confidence, and success—cognitive distortions. Drawing from Dr. Seth Gillihan's work in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dr. Christie breaks down common thinking traps like all-or-nothing thinking, catastrophizing, and emotional reasoning—and shows how they show up in everyday life and in practice ownership. You'll learn a simple but powerful framework to regain control of your mindset: Catch it. Check it. Change it. Dr. Christie explains how this three-step process can help you challenge unhelpful thoughts, reduce stress, and make clearer, more intentional choices. He also reflects on the continued growth of Modern Chiropractic Mastery in 2025 and shares exciting opportunities ahead in 2026, including a London Masterclass. The episode wraps with a strong reminder that long-term success doesn't happen in isolation—having a coach and a community of driven, like-minded professionals can be the difference between burnout and fulfillment. If you're ready to sharpen your mindset, elevate your practice, and stop letting your thoughts run the show, this episode is a must-listen.
Something you might notice about Boston musician Naomi Westwater is that they have both sides of the brain on lock. They are very good at community organizing, grant applying, advocating, and other "left-brained" activities. However, they are also a creative, deeply spiritual, open-hearted person, traits typically associated with the right brain. That's not always something that goes hand-in-hand, but it is a beautiful thing when it does! Westwater, who identifies as queer and Black-multiracial, grew up on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, where they never felt like they fit in. Thanks to their parents, there was a lot of music being played: reggae, jazz, funk, classic rock and '70s feminist folk. There was always a deep connection with nature, which plays into their spiritual practice and their songwriting, two areas they previously kept separate. On their new album, 'Cycle & Change,' Naomi made an effort to fully embrace her identity as a songwriter and a witch. She shares, “Each song ties back to its seasonal context, weaving a story that spans spring's hopeful beginnings, summer's vibrancy, autumn's introspection, and winter's quietude…” Right in the final stretch of preparing to release the album, all these very hard things happened: the sudden loss of Naomi's father; they went through a divorce; and they relocated. It was as if, with the album, they had created the blueprint for remaining grounded during these challenging life changes. We get into all of this on Basic Folk, as well as navigating self-advocacy while struggling to get their endometriosis and adenomyosis diagnosed and treated and the impact their father's death had on their creativity.Follow Basic Folk on social media: https://basicfolk.bio.link/Sign up for Basic Folk's newsletter: https://bit.ly/basicfolknewsHelp produce Basic Folk by contributing: https://basicfolk.com/donate/Interested in sponsoring us? Since before the world was created, God has had a master plan to deliver people from evil. He cared for us so much that He was willing to endure pain to redeem us. In Acts 14:20, we read about Jesus and the disciples preaching in a city called Derbe. It says that, “Jesus then was busy strengthening the souls of his disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations, we must enter the kingdom of God.” God wants us to know that the journey we are on ends with a destination, and along the journey, we must be prepared to endure hardship for his sake. His compassion for the whole world is summed in maybe the most famous verse in all Scripture, John 3:16, which says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” And that's it. That's the whole point of living this Christian life. It isn't complicated in terms of understanding, but it can be hard to live out. There are currently 7.4 billion people on the planet, and most have not received Christ. Many have not even heard Him yet, hard as that is to believe. There's still a lot of work to be done. 700 years before Jesus, the prophet Isaiah saw God's throne in a vision. And the Lord said there, “Who can we send? Who will go for us?” Isaiah eagerly said, “Here I am. Send me.” This is the willing heart God is looking for. We live in this world with all its misery and beauty, chaos and harmony. We are to share the Good News of Jesus. And if we do that from a willing heart, God is faithful to use our efforts to advance His kingdom. And that is our purpose. Would you pray with me?Father God, your great plan from the beginning is right on schedule. It's always on schedule. We love you. Nothing, and no one, stops you from accomplishing your will. See us through to the end, Lord, that we can accomplish your will for our lives. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! Essential to the practice of hearing these vital messages is both an embrace of humility and a willingness to stand in the place of not knowing. During this time of upheaval in both culture and nature, when we collectively stand in a greater period of uncertainty, being able to hear the guiding messengers all around us can bring us closer to the call of our deeper self. The centering and guiding power of the deep self gives us our innate sense of meaning and instinctive sense of purpose. Without this inner, unifying factor, any meaningful sense of change can become fraught with excess fears and anxiety. Since the world will not quickly settle, we have to look deep inside for a true source of coherence, for meaningful guidance and for finding our true aims in life, which are not deterred by the troubles of the world. In this conversation, Adam Cox and Dale Turnbull explore the journey into hypnosis, the impact of NLP, and the significance of metaphors in personal development and therapy. They discuss how personal metaphors shape our understanding of life and the challenges of change. The dialogue delves into the concept of life as a game, the implications of simulation theory, and the metaphorical perspective on mental health. Dale shares insights from his experiences and upcoming workshops, emphasizing the importance of context in therapy and the power of metaphors in facilitating change.About Dale in his own wordsMetaphors of Movement operates within the realm of autogenic metaphor that is, metaphor generated naturally and internally by the client. All the metaphorical structures explored during the process arise organically from the client, with no content imposed by the therapist.Metaphors of Movement utilizes idiomatic communication to translate unconscious experience from the non-dominant hemisphere of the brain to conscious awareness (dominant hemisphere). This gives a fuller picture of the problem, creating harmonized understanding within the brain.Hi, I'm Dale Turnbull, an Englishman living in New York, and I help people create meaningful change through training, coaching, and mentoring in Metaphors of Movement. My aim is simple: to open up new possibilities for both clients and therapists by exploring how change really works.I got started in this field through Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), learning directly from the creators John Grinder and Richard Bandler. That experience kicked off a fascination with what is the differnece that truly makes the difference when it comes to change work. Since then, I've added a few more tools to my kit including Hypnosis, Provocative Change Works (PCW), Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) and Metaphors of Movement (MoM).After more than 12 years working with individuals and organizations, I'm now focused on sharing this powerful, eye-opening approach with others. What if the most effective strategy for leading change isn't fear-based urgency, but love? In this episode, Kevin sits down with Mohammad Anwar to explore a rethinking of how leaders can approach change by centering people, building trust, and creating psychological safety. Together, Kevin and Mohammad discuss why traditional change management approaches fail, how fear activates resistance, and why prioritizing emotional intelligence and human connection leads to sustainable transformation. They dive into six behavioral principles that underpin "love as a change strategy," including embracing discomfort, practicing empathetic curiosity, and wielding influence effectively. Mohammad also challenges conventional models like Maslow's hierarchy, advocating instead for love and belonging as the true foundation of human needs. The cost of perfection left me perfectly exhausted. Be thin, but not too thin. Be confident but not overly confident. Be successful, but not too successful. If you're with me and you experience the pressure to be perfect, this is a perfect paradox—and it is time to dump the impossible standards that are destroying your mental health and that are so tied to eating disorders. In this episode, I'm diving into the relentless pressure to be perfect and how it's literally rewiring your brain to keep you stuck. Whether you're just starting your recovery journey or you've been on this path for years, perfectionism might feel like both an old friend and your biggest obstacle. And when you couple perfectionism with the pressure from culture and society to be Instagram-ready? The output you receive is simply exhaustion. You're exhausted, sis. And trying to live up to these impossible standards. But today, we're going to dissect this. We're going to look at what science says about breaking free. Because you don't just have to take my word for it—research shows your brain can actually change. In this episode, you'll discover: The impossible standards we're all trying to live up to (and why they're literally impossible) The shocking statistics: 68% of individuals with eating disorders display clinically significant perfectionism Why perfectionism often appears YEARS before any eating disorder behaviors The deep roots of perfectionism: family dynamics, trauma, social media (users who spend 3+ hours/day are 60% more likely to develop body image issues) The neuroscience: How perfectionists have heightened activity in the brain's "error detection center" How altered serotonin and dopamine systems make it harder for perfectionists to feel "good enough" or satisfied The vicious cycle: threat detection → anxiety → perfectionist behaviors → temporary relief → reinforced neural pathways The HOPE: How mindfulness, self-compassion, and exposure to imperfection can actually change your brain Why true recovery happens when you stop trying to do it perfectly and start doing it honestly A powerful devotional insight: "God won't bless who you pretend to be" The truth: Your worth isn't measured by impossible standards—it's measured by your courage to show up If you're tired of being tired, if you're exhausted from trying to be "perfect," if you feel stuck in the perfect paradox—this episode will give you both the science and the hope you need to break free. Most people treat dating like a lottery; swipe, hope, repeat. Jonathan Aslay lost $2 million, his marriage, and his son. What saved him wasn't positive thinking. It was asking one brutal question: "What happened in your marriage?" Not to judge. To observe. Because how someone talks about their ex reveals everything about their emotional maturity. Self-love isn't bubble baths and affirmations. It's having the spine to walk away from someone hot but emotionally stunted. It's recognizing that your body screams "yes" while your values whisper "run." Chemistry is a drug. Compatibility is architecture. Most relationships fail because people confuse the two. You'll learn: The exact question that exposes emotional immaturity in 30 seconds Why chemistry without shared values guarantees failure How to interview dates without sounding like HR (and why you should) Stop wasting months on people who were wrong from day three. Florida received some snow over the previous weekend, causing the Internet to erupt in conspiracy chants of climate change or weather modification. It never snows in Florida, most assume, despite a documented history dating back 200 years of occasional snow in the northern parts of the state. The same conspiracy hysteria erupted in 2024 too, including the idea that snow wasn't even real. Despite it having melted 12 months ago, the new snow, and a few flurries in Florida, is being called fake. As is the fog, ice, and even cold weather in general. In fact, some believe the cold weather itself is a conspiracy to freeze a giant monster in the ocean. This is all despite December, January, and February being the month of Old Man Winter, who has been beaten and buried with no memory or remorse. *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. In this episode of Culture of Change, Ashe in America and Abbey Blue Eyes dig into the unraveling narratives coming out of Davos and the growing panic among global elites as long-standing systems begin to fracture. The conversation centers on the World Economic Forum's messaging around AI, globalization, and economic control, questioning whether fear is being deliberately deployed to maintain authority in a rapidly shifting world. Ashe and Abbey break down key statements from Davos, explore the collapse of the “rules-based international order,” and examine how narratives around AI, climate policy, and global integration are being used to pressure compliance. The episode also dives into discernment in an age of information overload, the role of belief versus authority, and why sovereignty, truth, and human judgment are becoming increasingly threatening to centralized power. As the old frameworks strain under their own contradictions, this conversation asks who is really panicking, and why.
1. Short, Limited Government Shutdown Most federal agencies and benefits (Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, food assistance, mail service, passports) are unaffected. The shutdown mainly impacts non‑essential services and is expected to last only a few days. Shutdowns are often politically exaggerated, and that even full shutdowns leave most government operations running. 2. Detransitioner Lawsuit as a Legal Turning Point A New York jury verdict awarded $2 million to a woman who underwent gender‑related breast removal surgery as a minor and later detransitioned. The case is presented as: The first successful malpractice/detransitioner lawsuit of its kind. A potential precedent that could encourage similar lawsuits nationwide. The argument is this: to Change medical and hospital behavior. Increase legal scrutiny of gender‑affirming care for minors. Gender‑transition procedures for minors have become a profitable industry. Some hospitals and professionals allegedly prioritize financial incentives and ideology over long‑term patient welfare. The lawsuit can be a tool too: Hold professionals financially and legally accountable. Deter similar practices through litigation risk. 3. Trump’s Withdrawal from UN Agencies and Treaties Withdrew the U.S. from 66 United Nations agencies, programs, and international commitments. Cut or refused funding to several UN bodies, contributing to a UN financial crisis. A move to reduce U.S. taxpayer spending. A rejection of what they characterize as ineffective or ideologically driven international programs. The UN is financially mismanaged and overly dependent on U.S. funding. Art Marketing Podcast: How to Sell Art Online and Generate Consistent Monthly Sales
A listener said their life isn't dramatic enough for a story. This episode proves them wrong — with 4 AI prompts you can try today. Every artist has a story. Hopper painted his loneliness. Morandi painted the same bottles for 40 years. Your story doesn't need to be dramatic — it needs to be yours. These 4 prompts use AI to interview you, pull your story out, and save it so every caption, bio, and email already knows who you are. In this episode: Why you can't see your own story (and why that's normal) Real artists with "boring" lives who became legends 4 copy-paste prompts to pull your story out How to save your story as a context file Prompt 1 — The Origin Story Interview: I'm an artist and I need help discovering and articulating my story. I want you to interview me — ask me questions one at a time, wait for my answer, then ask a follow-up that digs deeper. Start with how I got into art. Don't accept surface-level answers — if I say "I've always liked drawing," ask me WHEN and WHERE and WHAT I was drawing and WHY. Keep going until you feel like you have enough material to write a compelling origin story. Then write it for me in first person, in a warm conversational tone — not a formal bio. Something I could read on a podcast or put on my website. Keep it under 300 words. Prompt 2 — The "Why This" Interview: Now I want you to interview me about WHY I create what I create. Ask me about my subject matter, my medium, my style. Dig into why I chose these — was it intentional or did I stumble into it? Is there a personal connection to my subjects? Don't let me get away with "I just like it" — help me find the deeper reason. When you have enough, write a short paragraph (150 words max) I can use when someone asks "Why do you paint/photograph [subject]?" Prompt 3 — The Piece Story: I'm going to describe one specific piece of art I've made. I want you to interview me about it — where I was when I made it, what was happening in my life, what I was feeling, why I chose the composition/colors/subject. Then write me a short story (100-150 words) I could use as the caption or description for this piece. Make it personal and specific — not generic art-speak. Prompt 4 — The Bio Generator: Based on everything we've discussed in this conversation, write my artist bio in three versions: 1. ONE SENTENCE — for social media profiles and quick intros. 2. ONE PARAGRAPH — for show applications, website about page, email signatures. 3. FULL PAGE — for press kits, gallery submissions, and detailed about pages. Use a warm, conversational tone. Avoid art-world jargon. Make it sound like ME, not like a museum placard. Okay, friend, this one came out of nowhere. I just got back from a cruise—senior trip with seven high schoolers—and somewhere between Mexico and deep conversations about critical thinking, something clicked. I spent days journaling about it, testing it, turning it over in my mind. And I knew I had to share it before I overthought it into oblivion. Here's the short version: What if communication isn't actually a skill? What if it's just the visible output of a decision system running underneath…and THAT'S what's broken? This reframe has shifted how I see every team I work with. Every leader who tells me "we need better communication." Every meeting that circles. Every decision that doesn't hold. I'm still testing it. I'm still going deeper. But I wanted to bring you into the conversation now…because I think it's going to change how you see your team, too. Let me know what you think. Seriously. DM me on LinkedIn. I want to hear if this lands the way it landed for me. What You'll Hear in This Episode Why "we need better communication" is the wrong diagnosis The relationship between micro-decisions and every conversation your team has What's actually happening when decisions don't hold and conversations circle The difference between protection mode and ownership mode Why upgrading the decision system naturally upgrades communication Three shifts that move teams from autopilot to intentional The Leadership Pattern to Notice Teams aren't struggling because they don't know HOW to talk. They're making hundreds of micro-decisions in every conversation—how to interpret, how to respond, who owns it, who defers—and those decisions are running on autopilot, driven by whatever the internal system is protecting: approval, control, safety, being right. What leaders see: "We have a communication problem." What's actually happening: A team making fear-based micro-decisions in every conversation. Leadership Noticing "Communication is just decision-making made visible. Change the decision-making, you change the communication." Notice this week: When conversations circle or decisions don't hold, ask yourself—is this a communication issue, or is the team's internal system protecting something that's keeping them from owning the outcome? Concepts Introduced Communication as visible output of the decision system Micro-decisions running on autopilot Protection mode vs. ownership mode The three shifts: unconscious → intentional, protection → ownership, individual dysfunction → team alignment What's Coming Next Tami goes deeper on a related breakthrough: what clarity actually is—and why most teams think they have it when they don't. A new level of understanding that changes how leaders diagnose what's really happening beneath the surface. Final Thought: The next time someone says your team needs better communication, ask yourself: Do they not know how to talk? Or is something underneath driving dysfunction that no script or framework will fix? If your team keeps having the same conversations, the same meetings, the same conflicts—and communication training hasn't fixed it—let's talk. Tami offers sample sessions of the Aligned Leader Series to get underneath the surface and diagnose what's actually driving the patterns. → DM Tami on LinkedIn (yes, it's really her—not a bot, not a team member) → Book a Aligned Leadership Audit (tamimariecoaching.com/call) l to explore what an upgraded decision system looks like for you and your team Enjoyed the Episode? Do you struggle to wonder what God's will is for your life? Many of us do.Although it isn't a quick answer, the best way to find God's will for your life is to read His Word. The Bible will tell you the answer to that question.Romans 8:31 tells us, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”Actually, finding God's will isn't the hardest part. Deciding to follow His will is where we get tripped up.People need the skill and discipline of being persistent. Too often, the impulse is to give up and then, if we're honest, pretend that God hasn't revealed His will to us.Good old Abe Lincoln had it right when he said that the only important response is to make sure we are on God's side, not whether He's on ours.God has already told us that He's on our side. He sent His Son, Jesus, to take the penalty for our sin. It doesn't get any more “on our side” than that.Change your thinking a bit. Don't focus on what you think God is supposed to do.Resolve instead to follow God, and do it every day.Let's pray.Lord, your will is the thing that drives us on to find our purpose in life. Thank you for sticking with us. Help us to stick with you. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! You'll learn why this stage feels so disorienting, how to stop rushing through it, and how to recognize small signs of growth even when it feels like nothing's changing. If you've been questioning yourself or feeling like you're stuck between chapters, this episode will remind you that confusion isn't failure — it's the bridge to becoming.
