While the podcast team is taking a Radical Sabbatical, Kim is interviewing authors of the books that have had a big impact on her in the past two years. In this episode, she's speaking with Daniel Coyle about his new book, Flourish, The Art of Building Meaning, Joy and Fulfillment. What is a meaningful life, and how do we make one? How do certain communities foster closeness, fulfillment, happiness, and energy? Daniel Coyle has spent the last few years trying to crack this code. He talks about the transformation that happened during the famous story of the 33 miners trapped 2000 feet underground in a mine in Chile. It turns that the key to survival was a leader who was willing to let go of control. You can't command and control your way to flourishing--or surviving in a crisis. Background on Daniel Coyle: Daniel is the New York Times bestselling author of The Culture Code, which was named Best Business Book of the Year by Bloomberg, BookPal, and Business Insider. Coyle has served as an advisor to many high-performing organizations, including the Navy SEALs, Microsoft, Google, and the Cleveland Guardians. His other books include The Talent Code, The Secret Race, The Little Book of Talent, and Hardball: A Season in the Projects, which was made into a movie starring Keanu Reeves. Coyle was raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and now lives in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, during the school year and in Homer, Alaska, during the summer with his wife, Jenny, and their four children. This week, Julia Turner and Dana Stevens are joined by Slate's own Rebecca Onion to discuss The Devil Wears Prada 2, BEEF season 2, and the NYT's best living songwriters package with Slate's music critic Carl Wilson. Twenty years on, we return to the world of The Devil Wears Prada. In the sequel, Andy, Anne Hathaway's character, must save Runway Magazine from the forces of capital, who are selling the Vogue-analogue for parts, as Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly struggles to hang on to her own power. The movie has a lot to say about the state of journalism and media with plot lines seemingly ripped from the gossip pages, but does it all come together in the edit? We discuss. Then, the second season of A24's anthology series BEEF stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan as a volatile millennial couple who enter into a feud with a younger couple, played by Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton. Set at a rich Californian golf resort and its environs, the show satirizes class and generational resentments as the characters scramble to claim the scraps of their betters at the expense of everyone else. The characters are mostly unlikeable, and the premise might be a little less original than the first season, but given BEEF's stacked cast and pedigree, does the show sizzle? Finally we're joined by Carl Wilson, Slate's music critic and author of the newsletter “Crritic!” to discuss the New York Times package: The 30 Greatest Living Songwriters. Carl submitted a ballot for the list, and the polished version isn't too far from his submission. He gets into his picks and discusses what the list is saying about the field of songwriting and the idea of a songwriter as it's been expanded to include non-traditional instrumentation and digital composition. But like all lists it has sparked debate about the inclusions (Carole King, Stevie Wonder) the exclusions (Randy Newman, Liz Phair, David Byrne) and whether Taylor Swift's inclusion was solely to get an interview. Together with Carl, we try and make sense of the list and talk about our favorites. As promised, here is Carl's full ballot (The asterisks indicate people who Carl voted for but who have since died):Willie NelsonSmokey Robinson Bobby Braddock *Brian WilsonBob DylanCarole KingRandy NewmanDolly PartonStevie Wonder*Sly StoneThe Flatlanders (Butch Hancock/Jimmie Dale Gilmore/*Joe Ely)Tom Waits & Kathleen BrennanNile RodgersDavid ByrneMark EitzelChuck D & the Bomb SquadJimmy Jam & Terry LewisStephin MerrittLiz PhairJohn Darnielle (The Mountain Goats)Missy Elliott & TimbalandThe Love Junkies (Hillary Lindsey/Lori McKenna/Liz Rose)Outkast (Big Boi/Andre 3000)Josh Osborne/Brandy Clark/Shane McAnallyPhoebe BridgersEndorsements: Julia: The SNL sketch featuring Teana Taylor, Grandpa At The Wedding.Rebecca: The new Lord Of The Flies adaptation on Netflix. In this episode, I'm sharing a very real, very personal story about my daughter and what led me to take her to a developmental optometrist. As both a COTA and a mom, I always tell families “when in doubt, rule it out,” and this was one of those moments where I had to take my own advice.I walk through what I started noticing at home, from how she was positioning her head while writing, to her difficulty with attention during fine motor tasks, to hesitations with sports and play. At first, it was easy to brush some of it off as personality or age, but the patterns kept showing up.I share what our appointment actually looked like, what they were assessing, and the moment that really clicked for me when the doctor showed me what she might be seeing on a daily basis. It was one of those experiences where everything suddenly made more sense.I also talk about the difference between visual acuity and how the eyes actually function together. Just because a child can “see” doesn't mean their visual system is working efficiently. That was a big takeaway for me and something I think more families need to understand. This episode is really about awareness. Ocular motor skills, accommodation, and visual processing play such a huge role in things like attention, behavior, reading, and overall development, and they're often overlooked or mistaken for something else.I also share how to know who to go to if you're noticing similar concerns, what a developmental optometrist actually does, and why this can be such an important piece of the puzzle. This is just the beginning of our journey, and I'll continue to share updates as we learn more, especially if we move into vision therapy. Thanks for listening

The Hidden Cost of Success: Why High Performers Feel Less Whole at the Top What if your success is not proof that you're aligned… But proof of how much of yourself you had to hide to survive? Show Notes In this episode 16 of the documentary-style of The Polymathic Perspective Podcast, Dov Baron dissects a silent, underdiagnosed reality: The structural mismatch between integrative minds and specialized systems. It's not about productivity, it's about neuroscience, identity. Perception. Power. And the hidden cost of becoming exceptional in a world that only understands narrow forms of intelligence.
Everyone's talking about mindfulness… but what if we've missed the most important part? What if the key isn't your mind being focused—but God's mind being focused on you?In this teaching on Psalm 8, John Ortberg explores a deeper kind of mindfulness—one that begins not with your attention, but with God's.While we often struggle with distraction, anxiety, and rumination, Psalm 8 reveals something surprising: God is fully, constantly mindful of you. His attention never drifts. His care never wavers.Through reflection, Scripture, and guided prayer, this teaching invites you to step into praise, re-center your mind, and experience what it means to live in the awareness of God's presence. You'll also learn how to pray the Psalm—turning your attention from distraction to delight, and from anxiety to awe.Music Credits:Vikersund by RØRE - MB01V0UASAACPKEAlta by RØRE - MB01IWZVJASGKHF

Welcome back to HALO Talks. In this episode, host Pete Moore sits down with Alexander Tsiaras, founder of StoryMD and a pioneering force at the intersection of digital health and patient empowerment. From his roots as a DARPA programmer developing virtual surgery for astronauts and soldiers (!!) to raising over $55 million in grants and private capital, Alexander has dedicated his career to transforming healthcare data into a powerful, patient-centered narrative. Together, they discuss the fractured landscape of medical records, the journey of building an AI agent that acts as your personalized primary care, and the impact of making complex medical data accessible and actionable. Tsiaras shares how this technology helped his wife during her cancer treatment and why turning data into stories is the key to thriving, not just surviving. Whether you're an elite athlete, working through a health challenge, or passionate about wellness innovation, this conversation will change the way you think about your own healthcare journey. When it comes to the frangmentation that goes on "behind the scenes" Tsiaras states, "Everything is fragmented and the individual has to actually cobble it all together. And the whole point is that all of these big electronic medical records and all the technologies . . .are all about billing and administration. No one is actually empowering a great athlete or a patient . . . They're going through the same thing, fragmentation, where they have to cobble all the information together for themselves." Key themes discussed Fragmentation of patient medical records and healthcare data Empowering patients to own and understand their health journey Storytelling approach to personal medical information Use of HL7 coding for comprehensive data integration AI agent as personalized primary care in your pocket Monetization and responsible use of patient health data Strategic partnerships for scaling and commercialization A Few Key Takeaways 1. The Power of Personal Health Storytelling: Alexander emphasizes that understanding individual health requires more than statistics, it requires personal storytelling. By converting a patient's data into a narrative, users gain actionable insights and a stronger sense of agency over their wellness journey 01:19. 2. Fragmentation of Medical Records is a Major Issue: Through a personal example involving his wife's cancer treatment, Tsiaras highlights the fragmentation of patient data across multiple institutions and systems, which leads to a confusing and inefficient patient journey 02:05. 3. StoryMD Empowers Patients with Their Own Data: The digital platform is fully patient-focused. It enables individuals to import records from over 85,000 medical institutions, incorporate wearable and clinical data, and use an AI agent to interpret this data into a narrative that is understandable and actionable—all focused on the patient's unique journey 05:09. 4. Monetization Through Responsible Use of Data: While the import and basic interpretation of data is free, Alexander describes a model where the value comes from the quality and responsible monetization of anonymized data, with a focus on benefitting patients rather than exploiting their information 05:42. 5. The Future of Primary Care May Be in Your Pocket: StoryMD is evolving into a platform where an AI agent acts as a pocket-sized primary care resource, reviewing comprehensive and personalized health data to provide real-time, individualized advice, meeting a growing need as traditional primary care accessibility declines 15:20. With less than six months until the 2026 midterm elections, the battle for congressional majorities continues to intensify. Following a pivotal Supreme Court decision on Louisiana's redistricting maps, the door has swung open for a new phase of "mid-decade redistricting" that could reshape the House. Bruce Mehlman, founder of Mehlman Consulting, joins the Rundown to talk about the factors that will determine the next congressional majority. Using phones in classrooms has become a heated issue over the years, but is there a root cause that points to a deeper societal problem? Certified Family Therapist and Founder of “The Listening Path,” Christine Miles, joins the Rundown to discuss why inept listening skills are crippling about ability to connect. That is a core tenet in her book titled, What Is It Costing You Not to Listen?: The Power of Understanding to Connect, Influence, Solve & Sell. In this episode of Friday Field Notes, Ryan Michler tackles a controversial but critical idea: what if free markets aren't the problem—but the proving ground for masculinity? Ryan breaks down how systems built on risk, accountability, competition, and earned success shape men into capable, resilient leaders. He contrasts this with the growing appeal of dependency-driven systems and explains why outsourcing responsibility may come at a deeper cost—your purpose, identity, and sovereignty. This is a direct, unfiltered look at what men lose when struggle disappears—and why the free market might be the arena men actually need. Jesus gives us a name to use for God. Matthew 6:9: “This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father…” Right there. The first two words of the prayer. Our Father. Before anything else… before the structure, before the requests, before the “give us” and “forgive us”… Jesus starts with identity and relationship. Our Father. That's how He teaches us to approach God. He is our Father and we are his beloved daughter. Now here's something really beautiful – It is believed Jesus originally spoke this in Aramaic, the everyday language of the people he was speaking to. The word would have been “Abun.” Later, when written in Greek, we see the word “Abba.” And these words “Abba” and “Abun” weren’t formal, distant titles. These were words a child would use for their father. Daddy. Papa. A word of closeness. A word of trust. A word of belonging. So when Jesus says, “This is how you should pray,” He is saying… come to God like this. Come as a child comes to a loving Father. Not distant. Not afraid. Not trying to impress. But close. Known. Loved. Now let me ask you…. Who is this God we pray to? Are we bothering Him with our requests? Are we even doing it right? Does the Creator of the universe really hear us… and if He does, does He really want to? Scripture tells us to talk to God about everything—all the time. Not with fancy or showy words, but with our real, everyday language. Philippians 4: 6-7, “Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” And this conversation with our Father, our Abba, our Papa hold tremendous power! James 5:16 says, “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” That's you. Righteous not because of what you've done, but because of your faith in Jesus. And your earnest prayer—the sincere one, the one that comes from relationship and not obligation—that prayer has power. Power to move mountains. Power to break chains. Power to make the impossible possible. But so many of us miss out on that power because we don't really understand who we're talking to. I missed out for years, and maybe you are too. All too often we approach God like we're interrupting Him… like we should keep it short, wrap it up, or say it just right. But Jesus tells us there's a different way and a better way to approach God … “Our Father.” That's our Abba. Our Papa. Not a distant God. Not an annoyed ruler. Not an angry man with a stick. Our Father. I sometimes listen to the teaching of a man named Bill Lokey. At the time of his latest recording, he had been battling cancer for several years, continually given only weeks to live. And this man decided, if he was only going to live a very short time, he would actually LIVE! His final recording was just 2 weeks before what he referred to as “a step from the boat to the dock”. Yes, his final breath and step into eternity. I'm literally listening to a man in his final 2 weeks of life teach me how to truly LIVE. I'm learning many things from Bill and his legacy, but the one thing that has impacted me most is an interaction he had with God during his private prayer time. He was in the car, and he began praying as he normally did, and God interrupted him and said, “I want you to call me Papa.” This man had followed Jesus for over 60 years, and he said in that moment, he experienced a whole new level of relationship with his Creator. He's not just God. He's not just the Maker of Heaven and Earth. He's not just the God of all gods. He's not just the Almighty. He is your Father, and he wants you to call him Papa. Papa. Let that settle into your soul right now. Romans 8:14–16 (MSG) says,“This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It's adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike ‘What's next, Papa?' God's Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children.” Oh… to be adventurously expectant. Did you wake up this morning expecting adventure from a Father who loves you? Did you wake up to this new month of life remembering He is for you and not against you? That He has already gone before you and made a way? If you didn't, it's so easy to feel stressed or overwhelmed… worried about your future and dreading the day ahead. But you have received a resurrection life. A life that has been raised up. A life that is new and fresh. A life that can break free of overwhelm. And when God's Spirit touches your spirit, you know who you are. My friend, may you've forgotten who you really are. Maybe life has gotten loud and busy and you're just trying to keep up. Today, Abba, Father, Papa is inviting you to slow down, come close and remember again. If you've lost yourself along the way, pause right here. Let truth settle in to you. You are not who the world says you are. You are not who your past says you are. When His Spirit meets yours, you remember your identity. And when you know who you are… then you know who He is. Father. Daddy. Papa. We know who He is, and we know who we are: Father and children. So let me ask you…. How do you sound when you pray? Do you come as a confident daughter, trusting in His love for you? Or do you come like a beggar… hoping maybe you catch Him in a good mood? Or maybe you've stopped coming at all… because somewhere along the way, you lost your belief in His personal love for you. The enemy would love nothing more than for you to see God as distant, cold, and unapproachable. But God is saying, “No… I'm your Papa God.” I used to wonder… am I bothering God? Should I just ask once and be done? Should I keep it short, like a quick summary prayer that covers everything? Sometimes I think we treat God like there's a limit, like we should hurry. But that's not what Jesus taught. Our Father. A Father doesn't get annoyed when His child keeps talking. A Father doesn't say, “You've already asked that.” A Father leans in, listens again and does everything he can for his beloved girl. That's who he is and that's who you are to him. I think about how much it means when a child says “Mama” or “Daddy.” The first time… it changes everything. And it never stops mattering. When my adult children call me Mama, my heart responds instantly. And that's just a glimpse—a tiny glimpse—of how God responds when you call Him Father. He's not rolling His eyes. He's not checking the clock. He's not saying, “Wrap it up.” His heart overflows. And here's what is so incredible… The same God who created the universe… Who holds everything together… Who is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present… He invites you to call him Daddy. Papa. Abba. That is the relationship He wants with you. But let's be honest for a moment. For some, this is a hard name to hear and receive. You see, for many, this is hard because our idea of “father” has been damaged. Maybe your earthly father fell short. Maybe he fell absent. Maybe that image just doesn't feel safe or real. And that matters. But don't miss this… God is not a reflection of your earthly father. He is the perfection of what a father was always meant to be. A Father who chose you. Ephesians 1:5 says, “He decided in advance to adopt you into His family… and it gave Him great pleasure.” You are chosen. Wanted. Adopted. I've seen the power of adoption up close. To be chosen. To be claimed. To finally belong. That's what God has done for you. He didn't just allow you into His family—He wanted you there. You are His daughter. So what does this relationship actually look like? It looks like pulling up an extra chair and inviting Him into your day. It looks like sitting with Him… talking with Him… or sometimes just being with Him. It looks like saying, “Hey Papa… what's next?” Not out of fear… but out of excitement. Not out of obligation… but out of relationship. What if you lived your life like that? Adventurously expectant. Waking up saying, “Papa God, You've given me this day… so what are we going to do together?” What if prayer wasn't a task… but a conversation? What if God wasn't distant… but right beside you? Papa. Feel the closeness of that. Feel the safety of that. Feel the invitation in that. You are not a burden. You are not an obligation. You are his child. He is here. He is available. And he wants nothing more than a life giving relationship with you. Yes, he is all the things that are far above all the other things. Yes, he is to be honored. Yes, he is to be respected. Yes, he is to praised. And yes, he is to be YOURS! Your Father. Your Abun. Your Abba. Your Papa. So today… pull up a chair. Invite Him into your space. Don't worry about saying the right words. Just be with Him. And maybe start right here: “What's next, Papa? I'm ready.” Because this life you've been given…. It's not timid. It's not small. It's a resurrection life. And it's meant to be lived… side by side with your Father. On this week's show a listener asks for some help with keeping his audio in sync with his video. We also discuss how to turn off the ACR on your Smart TV. But first we read your emails and take a look at the week's news. News: Here's What's Coming in the 2026 Apple TV Roku's Howdy Streaming Service Reaches an Estimated 1 Million Users Deal Alert! 65" TV for $238 Audio Sync in a Home Theater Byron's request for answers to some specific questions on audio sync: I'd appreciate it if you guys could provide some "guiding principles" on syncing audio in a home theater setup. I have four questions: 1. Should the AVR be the ONLY place to mess with syncing settings (when everything runs through it, including ARC)? Yes, in most cases—this is the recommended approach. Start with AVR settings at zero or Auto, enable Auto Lip Sync if available, and adjust the manual audio delay there. Avoid adjusting on the TV or sources unless you have a specific reason like a stubborn source that bypasses the AVR. Changing multiple devices creates conflicts and makes troubleshooting harder. 2. If AVR is the main adjustment point, do sources automatically stay in sync after setting it once? Often yes, especially with Auto Lip Sync enabled and consistent sources. The AVR's delay setting (or per-input memory) applies across similar content. However: Different video formats, resolutions, SDR vs. HDR/Dolby Vision, 60Hz vs. 24p or processing modes can introduce varying delays. Some AVRs store audio delay per input, so one good setting per source/input often suffices. 3. For Fire TV Sticks, Apple TV, etc.: Do sync settings apply across all apps, or per-app? Fire TV Stick: The AV Sync Tuning (under Settings > Display & Sounds > Audio) is generally a device-wide offset. It should hold across apps for the HDMI output. Individual apps might have minor internal variations, but a global tweak usually covers most cases. Reboot the stick if sync drifts. Apple TV: No built-in manual per-app delay slider in standard settings. There's a Wireless Audio Sync calibration that uses the iPhone for measurement, which is more global. Different apps (e.g., Netflix vs. others) can sometimes show varying sync due to their decoding/processing—users often report needing AVR tweaks when switching apps. Match Frame Rate and consistent audio formats help stability. In both cases, rely on the AVR for the heavy lifting. 4. Do higher-end AVRs allow different sync settings per input? Yes! Many mid-to-high-end models store audio delay/lip sync per input source. Examples include Denon models with "Master Audio Delay" or similar, where you can set and recall different ms offsets (often 0–500ms) for each HDMI input. This is a big convenience for multiple devices. Check your AVR manual for "Audio Delay," "Lip Sync," or "per input" settings. Additional Best Practices Minimize variables: Disable unnecessary video processing (motion smoothing, noise reduction) on the TV and AVR to reduce video latency. Use "Game" or "Pure Direct" modes where possible for lower lag. HDMI/ARC specifics: Ensure high-quality HDMI cables. eARC is better than ARC for bandwidth and sync negotiation. The Most Effective ways to Circumvent Smart TV Spying Last week we talked about how your TV was spying on what you are watching. This week we discuss how to prevent that from happening. The following are the most effective ways to circumvent smart TV spying and related data collection, ranked from easiest/quickest to most thorough. These also help limit proxy network enrollment in shady apps. 1. Disable ACR Directly in TV Settings (Quickest First Step) Most brands let you turn off Automatic Content Recognition (and related ad/personalization features) without losing core picture quality. Do this on every TV: Samsung: Home button → Sidebar menu → Privacy Choices → Terms & Conditions / Privacy Policy → Uncheck Viewing Information Services (and Interest-Based Ads if present). LG: Settings → General → System → Additional Settings (or Advanced) → Turn Live Plus OFF → Also enable Limit Ad Tracking. Sony: Settings → Initial Setup → Disable Samba Interactive TV. Vizio: System → Reset & Admin → Turn Viewing Data OFF. Roku TV / Roku-based: Settings → Privacy → Smart TV Experience → Uncheck Use Info from TV Inputs. Hisense / TCL: Settings → System or Privacy → Disable Smart TV Experience or Use Info from TV Inputs. Amazon Fire TV: Preferences → Privacy Settings → Turn off data tracking options. After changing, restart the TV. Check the setting again after any software update, as it can reset. Also disable voice assistants, microphones, and cameras (cover them physically if needed). 2. Block Internet Access to the TV (Highly Effective) The simplest long-term fix: Prevent the TV from phoning home at all. Don't connect it to Wi-Fi or Ethernet in the first place. Or, on your router: Create a guest Wi-Fi just for the TV, then use firewall rules, parental controls, or MAC address blocking to stop all outbound internet traffic (while allowing local network access if you stream from a NAS/Plex/Jellyfin). Advanced: Use a tool like Pi-hole or AdGuard Home on your network to block known tracking domains. Pro tip: Many people report the TV works fine (or even faster) for HDMI inputs and local streaming when fully offline. External streaming devices handle all internet needs. 3. Use the TV as a "Dumb" Display Only Treat your smart TV like a big monitor: Connect all content via HDMI from a more private device (never use the TV's built-in apps). Recommended external boxes (in order of privacy-friendliness): Apple TV — Clean interface, minimal tracking, no aggressive ads. NVIDIA Shield or other local-media-focused devices. Raspberry Pi or HTPC running Kodi/Plex for full local control. This bypasses the TV's OS almost entirely. 4. Go Fully "Dumb" (Most Private Long-Term Solution) Buy a true dumb TV or large computer monitor (no smart features, no Wi-Fi, no ACR). Options exist in smaller sizes or from brands like Westinghouse for basic panels. Pair it with an external streamer or your own computer/laptop via HDMI. Many privacy-focused users prefer this setup over any "smart" panel. Important reality check: Disabling ACR and blocking internet stops most viewing-data collection, but no method is 100% foolproof against every firmware trick or future update. The nuclear option—keeping the TV completely offline and HDMI-only—remains the gold standard for privacy.

This episode is brought to you by Fatty15, Audible, and Strong Coffee Company. Most women are told their fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, and poor sleep in midlife are just "normal aging"—but this episode exposes the real root cause: a breakdown in the gut-hormone connection driven by declining estrogen, chronic stress, and a disrupted microbiome. Cynthia Thurlow reveals how these hidden internal shifts create inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, and hormonal chaos—and why traditional approaches often fail to fix it. More importantly, she explains how to reverse the trajectory by addressing the true drivers: gut health, sleep quality, and stress resilience. If you've been doing "all the right things" and still feel off, this conversation reframes the problem—and gives you a path forward rooted in biology, not guesswork. Most people are trying to change their results without ever changing the beliefs creating them. We tweak habits, push harder, and chase bigger goals— but underneath it all, our beliefs are shaping what we see, what we go after, and what we think is possible. In this conversation, I sit down with Shawn Achor, author of The Power of Beliefs, to break down the seven core beliefs the science shows actually predict your success. We talk about how your brain filters reality, why beliefs like "I matter" and "my behavior matters" can fundamentally change the trajectory of your life and leadership, and how to start rewiring the ones that may be holding you back. By the end of this conversation, you'll start to see the beliefs driving your results— and how to shift them so they start working for you, not against you.

https://teachhoops.com/ In this episode of Coach Unplugged, we dive into a psychological concept that is taking the coaching world by storm: The Red Car Theory. Have you ever decided to buy a specific car—let's say a red Jeep—and suddenly you start seeing that exact car on every corner, in every parking lot, and on every highway? Those cars didn't magically appear; they were always there. Your brain just started "highlighting" them because you told your Reticular Activating System (RAS) that they were important. In coaching, this is the ultimate tool for Intentional Excellence. If you don't tell your players what to look for, their brains will filter out the very opportunities you need them to seize. The Red Car Theory in basketball is simple: You get what you emphasize. If you spend your week talking about "Energy Givers," your players will start noticing (and becoming) energy givers. If you focus on "winning the 50/50 balls," your team will suddenly start seeing those loose-ball opportunities half a second faster than the opponent. During the mid-season January grind, teams often lose their way because their "Red Car" has become the scoreboard or their shooting percentages. Use your TeachHoops member calls to re-calibrate your focus. By picking one "Red Car" per week—whether it's communication, transition sprints, or high-hand closeouts—you train your team's collective brain to hunt for that specific advantage. Finally, remember that the "Red Car" works both ways. if you constantly focus on the "Red Cars" of missed calls, bad luck, or injury frustration, your brain will find "evidence" everywhere to support a victim mentality. To build a championship culture, you must be the Chief Filter Officer. You must explicitly define what the "Red Cars" are for your program. When your players stop seeing "the game" as a blur of motion and start seeing the specific "Red Car" opportunities to impact winning, you have achieved a level of Mental Mastery that few teams ever reach. Stop coaching the noise and start coaching the "Red Cars." The Power of the RAS: Understanding how your brain filters out 99% of what it sees. Emphasis is Reality: Why your team becomes exactly what you choose to highlight in practice. Choosing Your "Red Car": How to pick one tactical or cultural focus to dominate the week. Avoid the "Negative Filter": Guarding against focusing on things you cannot control. Red Car Theory, Reticular Activating System, basketball coaching focus, team culture, intentional excellence, high school basketball, youth basketball, basketball IQ, coach development, mental toughness, player development, championship habits, "The Villanova Way," coach unplugged, teach hoops, basketball success, leadership standards, practice planning, energy givers, athletic leadership. Most parents think the hardest part of raising a child with anxiety or OCD is figuring out what to do.But the truth is, learning the skills is just the beginning. In this episode, I walk you through the three stages parents naturally move through when learning to handle OCD, from that first moment of awareness, to the messy middle of trying to implement strategies, to the point where things start to feel more integrated and sustainable.Because knowing what to do and being able to actually do it consistently are two very different things. If you've ever found yourself second-guessing your responses, feeling stuck in patterns you know aren't helping, or wondering why this feels so much harder than it “should,” you are not alone. This episode will help you understand where you are in the process and why that middle stage can feel so overwhelming, even when you're doing everything “right.”And more importantly, it will help you see what kind of support actually makes a difference as you move forward. If you are a parent who knows what to do but struggles to follow through consistently, or you feel stuck in that in-between stage where nothing quite clicks yet, this episode is for you.❤️ For more in-depth support join the AT Parenting Community where we walk this journey with you.Resources: IOCDF Treatment GuidelinePodcast episode: The Power of the Pause***This podcast episode is sponsored by NOCD.
