He came to North America at age 8 from communist Yugoslavia with one suitcase, no connections, and parents who had nothing to give him but opportunity. Robert Herjavec turned that into a $500 million cybersecurity empire. One inch at a time. Robert brings something rare to this conversation: 22 years on Shark Tank, multiple exits, and a front-row seat to what separates businesses that actually scale from ones that just make noise. He's watched thousands of entrepreneurs pitch, fail, succeed, and lie to themselves about which one they're doing. His perspective on where the economy is heading, what AI is actually going to destroy, why most people raise money way too early, and what it genuinely costs to build something lasting is as grounded and unfiltered as anything I've heard from anyone at his level. In this conversation, I push Robert on whether Shark Tank has actually done damage to a generation of entrepreneurs, a question I've asked Damon and Barbara that nobody has answered the way Robert does here. I challenge him on the influencer economy and what it's doing to people's perception of what building a business really looks like. And I get personal with him about faith, fathers, and whether the grind of it all is worth it at this pace. Here's what you'll gain from this episode: One Inch at a Time: The philosophy Robert has carried since he was 22 years old, and how it connects directly to my "Power of One More" framework - the core of how both Robert and I approach the hardest days in business and in life. What Shark Tank Actually Did to Entrepreneurship: Robert gives the most honest answer I've ever heard from a Shark on whether the show did damage to a generation of entrepreneurs. Hold Your Equity: Why Robert has self-funded every business he's ever built, the advice that shaped that conviction, and a warning about raising money early. Where AI and the Trades Are Heading: Robert's specific read on which industries are about to be wiped out and which are going to double in income. Good Doesn't Mean Weak: The tough lesson both Robert and I learned the hard way and what you should do instead. This conversation went places neither of us planned, and I think that's what makes it one of my favorites. Learn more about your sleep today. Visit https://sleepdoctor.com.

On this episode of Lawfare Daily, Senior Editor Kate Klonick and Senior Editor Alan Rozenshtein speak with Cory Doctorow—science fiction author, activist, journalist, adviser to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and the writer who coined "enshittification"—about his new book, “The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI.” Doctorow argues that the most important thing about the AI boom isn't what the technology can or can't do, but the historic investment bubble and the new arrangements of work being built on top of it—the same analytic lens he brought to platform decay, now turned on AI.They discuss whether the AI bubble will actually burst or merely deflate, and the unit economics underneath it; the "reverse centaur," the worker conscripted to serve the machine; and how it maps onto a broader culture and questions of AI "knowledge collapse," the human analogue to AI model collapse.Additional Resources:Cory Doctorow's daily newsletter, Pluralistic Ed Zitron, "The Hater's Guide to the AI Bubble," (Where's Your Ed At, 2025)Andrew J. Exile, Humiliation, and the Power of the Tribune. Guest Author: Josiah Osgood. Seeking revenge for the Bona Dea trial, Clodius Pulcher transferred his status from patrician to plebeian to run for the office of tribune. Once elected, he passed legislation that targeted anyone who had put Roman citizens to death without a trial. This law was aimed directly at Cicero for his actions during the Catiline conspiracy. Recognizing the danger, Cicero fled Rome and went into exile, during which Clodius's supporters destroyed his mansion on the Palatine Hill. Clodius even built a shrine to the goddess Freedom on the site to humiliate his rival. During his exile, Cicero's wife, Terentia, worked to manage their affairs and protect their children while seeking his restoration. Cicero's departure was highly theatrical; he adopted the appearance of a mourner in "ashes and sackcloth" to stir public pity. Despite his attempts to gain sympathy, Clodius's populist support and political maneuvering ensured the law remained in effect, marking a devastating period of ruin for Cicero. He eventually returned to Rome, but his political influence was permanently diminished. 6CRETE MINOANS

A New Model for Treating Trauma Do You Need to Revisit the Past to Heal Trauma? Episode Overview In this episode, David and Kevin explore a provocative idea: healing from trauma may not require revisiting the past at all. Drawing from decades of clinical experience and data-driven research, David challenges a core assumption in trauma therapy and explains why focusing on the present moment can lead to rapid and lasting change. Key Takeaways A Radical Shift in Trauma Treatment Traditional approaches often emphasize revisiting and "processing" past trauma. David argues that this may be unnecessary—and sometimes counterproductive. His clinical experience suggests trauma can often be resolved in a single session by focusing on current thoughts and feelings. The Power of the Present Moment Patients consistently want help with what's bothering them right now, not necessarily past events. Changing how someone feels in the present can dissolve the emotional impact of past trauma. "The past is embedded in the present"—shift the present, and the past loses its grip. The Cognitive Model at Work Emotional suffering is driven not by events, but by thoughts about those events. When distorted thoughts are identified and challenged, emotional distress can rapidly disappear. This applies to trauma, depression, anxiety, and more. Data-Driven Insights Statistical modeling of patient data revealed that past emotional history does not predict recovery. In fact, including past data made predictive models less effective. Present-moment variables fully explained improvement. Powerful Clinical Stories Anne's Story (Terminal Cancer Diagnosis) Faced with a devastating diagnosis, Anne experienced severe depression. In a single session, her distorted thoughts (self-blame, guilt) were challenged. Her depression dropped from severe to zero—and did not return over the next two years. Trauma Workshop Demonstrations Across dozens of live demonstrations, participants with severe trauma experienced complete symptom relief within hours. Most work focused on present concerns—not revisiting traumatic memories. Latvian Survivor's Story A woman who survived Nazi-era trauma attempted suicide decades later. Her distress was tied not to past trauma, but to a belief: "I am worthless." Challenging that thought led to rapid recovery. Key Concepts Healthy vs. Unhealthy Negative Emotions Healthy: sadness, grief, concern Unhealthy: shame, guilt, worthlessness Therapy aims to eliminate distorted, self-defeating emotions, not natural human feelings. Exposure Therapy—Used Selectively Exposure can be powerful, especially for anxiety. However, it's often not necessary for trauma recovery. David reports using it rarely in trauma cases. No One-Size-Fits-All Approach Effective therapy requires a toolbox of techniques, not rigid adherence to one method. TEAM-CBT emphasizes flexibility and rapid testing of what works. Practical Tools for Listeners Daily Mood Log: Identify and challenge negative thoughts in real time Cognitive Techniques: Learn to "crush" distorted thinking patterns Self-Help Resources: Feeling Good by Dr. David Burns When Panic Attacks Dr. David Burns Feeling Great Dr. David Burns Feeling Great App: Free tool to practice these methods interactively Memorable Quote "The moment you stop believing a distorted thought is the moment your negative feelings disappear." Final Thoughts This episode offers a hopeful and empowering message: You may not need to relive your past to heal from it. By changing how you think and feel today, meaningful recovery can happen faster than you might expect. What's Coming Next Next episode: A deeper dive into trauma treatment using memory rescripting, including when revisiting the past can be helpful. Thanks for listening—see you next time! Mark and Al share their mutual interest in fantasy novels. Is "high fantasy" fundamentally different than what enjoyed as kids? Did Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and HBO's Game of Thrones show us that these big books are adaptable, or were they exceptions? We're anticipating the upcoming Mistborn/Cosmere adaptations, as we're both into Brandon Sanderson. We also talk about The Wheel of Time, Rings of Power, Earthsea, Shannara, Joe Abercrombie, Robin Hobb, Stephen R. Donaldson, Patrick Rothfuss, Tad Williams, and of course Harry Potter. In 2 Kings 4, Elisha tells a desperate widow to go collect empty jars from her neighbors — and then adds four words that stop everything: don't ask for just a few. The oil kept flowing as long as there were jars. Her provision was not limited by God's supply. It was limited by what she was willing to ask for. Rachel's invitation to us today is both tender and bracing: stop bringing God the polite, hedged, edited version of your prayers. Bring Him the empty jars — all of them. If you're in a season where answers feel far away, Rachel wrote Desperate Prayers: Embracing the Power of Prayer in Life's Darkest Moments for just those kinds of seasons. Today's Bible Verse "Elisha said, 'Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don't ask for just a few.'"— 2 Kings 4:3, NIV Ponder Today A prayer that didn't come the way you hoped is not a signal to ask for less. Unanswered prayer in the way we expected is not evidence that God is done being good to us or that the full-size version of our request is too much to bring Him. Praying small is often fear dressed up as maturity. When we limit our requests to what feels reasonable or safe, we may be protecting our hearts from disappointment rather than exercising genuine faith. God invites the real prayer, not the polished one. Your provision is not limited by God's supply — it can be limited by what you are willing to ask for. The widow's oil stopped when the jars ran out. Elisha's instruction was to gather as many as possible. God is waiting for you to bring more jars. God's past faithfulness is the foundation for present boldness in prayer. The same God who kept a minivan running for fifteen years beyond its prime is the same God who multiplied oil for a widow with almost nothing. His character has not changed. Bring Him the dreams and desires you have been embarrassed to name out loud. The hopes you have been softening, the requests you have been hinting around — those are exactly what God is waiting to hear. He already knows. He wants you to bring them anyway. A Prayer for You Today Heavenly Father, I have been praying small. You know the prayer I am talking about — the big one from a while back that didn't come the way I hoped, and the way I have been hinting at it ever since. Forgive me for deciding what You can and cannot do based on one answer I didn't understand. Forgive me for calling my fear faith. Forgive me for bringing You the polite version of my prayers when You have been waiting for the real ones. Lord, I am bringing You the empty jars today — the hopes I have been softening because they feel too big, the dreams I have been embarrassed to name out loud anymore. Fill them however You want to fill them. I will trust You with the outcome the way I am finally trusting You with the ask. In Jesus' name, Amen. Don't Miss an Episode If today's prayer gave you the courage to bring God your biggest, most unedited ask, we'd love to stay connected. Are you feeling energetically fragmented, caught between the frantic acceleration of your work week and the deep exhaustion of burnout? Welcome to Day 6 of our master series, Pranayama: Cultivating and Controlling Your Life Force Energy. Our developmental arc is Balance. In this session, we explore the fascinating spiritual mechanics of spinal equilibrium from Paramahansa Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi—revealing how advanced masters neutralize internal anxiety by balancing the dual solar and lunar currents running along the spine. Tonight, we execute our most sophisticated neuro-somatic protocol yet: Somatic Stacking. By layering your physical alignment, the energy-conserving Pran Mudra, and Yogananda's specialized double-respiration technique together, you actively force your nervous system into a state of perfect autonomic coherence. This deep biological reset harmonizes your brain hemispheres, stabilizes your heart rate variability, and levels the emotional scales of your week. Turn off the noise of the outside world, reclaim your absolute center, and drift effortlessly into deep, symmetrical sleep. In This Episode, You'll Discover: The Dual Highways of the Yogi: What Sri Yukteswar taught Yogananda about balancing the nervous system's active and passive currents to unlock unshakeable peace. The Power of Somatic Stacking: How combining physical positioning, hand mudras, and breath architecture sends a master safety override signal to your brain stem. The Multi-Layered Balance Meditation: A guided step-by-step bedtime practice to clear mid-week fragmentation and step onto your inner throne of equilibrium. A Message for Your Heart Dear Friend, You may have spent the entire week running, building, and beautifully balancing a massive world of responsibilities. You may have held space for so many visions and managed so many complex moving parts. It is incredibly easy to feel pulled apart by the sheer velocity of it all. Tonight, I want you to remember that your true nature is not chaotic—it is perfectly balanced. You do not have to fix the outside world to experience a state of absolute, sovereign equilibrium within yourself. At the Hay Festival, Misha Glenny and guests discuss the impact of the Norman invasion on the people and land of Wales and across the modern border with England in what became known as The Welsh Marches, march being a term for a militarized borderland. Hay was one of the first Marcher lordships. Even before 1066, William the Conqueror knew that he would have to subdue the Welsh if he were to control the English and he allowed more and more Norman warlords to establish virtually their own private kingdoms in these Marches. Later some of the Lords were to use these bases to invade Ireland rather than conquer the rest of Wales. Marcher Lords built numerous castles such as the one at Hay and many new towns would then grow up alongside these where there was one law for the English and another for the Welsh and, though the Acts of Union under the Tudors brought an end to much of the Marcher Lords' powers, the distinct identity of these Welsh Marches continued. With Rhun Emlyn Lecturer in the Department of History and Welsh History at Aberystwyth UniversityHelen Fulton Professor of Medieval Literature at the University of BristolAnd Huw Pryce Emeritus Professor of Welsh History at Bangor UniversityProducer: Simon TillotsonReading list:R. A Note from James:Mark Pincus is one of the true OGs of the internet. You probably know him as the founder of Zynga, the company behind FarmVille, Zynga Poker, and Words With Friends. Zynga was eventually acquired by Take-Two in a transaction valued at approximately $12.7 billion. Before Zynga, Mark started Tribe, one of the first social networks—before MySpace and Facebook. He has spent more than 25 years building, failing, and studying what gets millions of people to click, play, share, and come back. His new book, Life at the Speed of Play, inspired me to start coming up with new business ideas while we were still recording. What I really love is how Mark teaches people to copy like a master without looking like a copycat. He has a framework called “Proven–Better–New.” Start with something that has already been proven. Make it obviously better. Then isolate the new idea you want to test. It's one of the best systems I've heard for creating products people actually want.We talk about the early days of Facebook and MySpace, the failure of Tribe, the gaming industry, consumer psychology, AI coding, and how agents could eventually network and work for us while we're doing something else.I loved talking with Mark. I was still thinking about this conversation afterward—and I'm literally building businesses based on what I learned. His new book is called Life at the Speed of Play. Listen to this episode, and then read the book.Episode Description:Most founders begin with an idea and then spend months—or years—trying to prove that people want it. Mark Pincus thinks that process is backward. At Zynga, Mark's teams built “failure machines”: simple systems that allowed them to test hundreds of concepts before writing the code. They put unfinished ideas in front of real users, watched what people clicked, and refused to build anything until the demand was obvious. The objective wasn't to avoid failure. It was to make failure fast, cheap, and useful.Mark explains the framework behind that process: Proven–Better–New. First, study an existing success down to every screen, click, and design decision. Then identify one improvement that current users would immediately recognize as better. Only after that should a team add the unproven idea—the part most likely to fail.James and Mark also examine the problems facing today's consumer entrepreneurs. AI has made software easier to build, but distribution has become harder. People aren't searching for new apps, established platforms restrict organic growth, and algorithmic reach isn't the same as users actively sharing something with friends.Mark uses the failure of his early social network, Tribe, to explain why virality is not enough. Tribe grew quickly but lacked retention and trust. He ignored the communities users loved because they didn't match the business model he had already chosen. That painful mistake became the foundation for much of his later product philosophy. The conversation ends with Mark's current experiments: personal AI agents modeled after members of his family, a proposed work network built specifically for agents, an enterprise AI company called Hivemind, and the difficult decision to end a four-year passion project without abandoning the instinct behind it.This is a practical conversation about testing ideas, separating instinct from ego, learning from the past, and killing the wrong product before it consumes the right opportunity. What You'll Learn:How to build a failure machine: Test headlines, offers, videos, and fake doors before investing in a finished product. How to apply Proven–Better–New: Begin with a proven behavior, make one unmistakable improvement, and isolate the risky innovation. Why distribution is now harder than development: AI can generate a prototype quickly, but it cannot guarantee attention, trust, or adoption. Why Tribe failed despite rapid growth: Virality without retention, safety, and alignment with user behavior does not create a lasting network. How to copy without becoming a copycat: Study successful products at the pixel level, preserve what works, and innovate only where it matters. When to abandon an idea: Preserve the underlying instinct, but stop funding the particular expression of it when the evidence turns against you.How AI agents may change networking: Agents could eventually search for opportunities, exchange work, build reputations, and bring useful leads back to their users.Timestamped Chapters: [02:00] Finding the “OMFG” Moment [02:58] A Note from James [05:00] Build a Failure Machine Before Building a Product [06:25] Testing Demand With Fake Doors and Broken Links [08:08] Writing Copy That People Actually Notice [10:52] Test More Ideas in a Week Than the Industry Tests in a Year [11:53] Why Neglected Products Become Innovation Labs [13:26] How Mobile Apps Slowed Product Experimentation [15:09] Can AI Bring Rapid Testing Back? He encourages listeners to stop white-knuckling their way through life, embrace imperfection, and make room for fun as part of the process, not just the reward at the end.He also reflects on how creativity has helped him reconnect with himself and how his book, Make Fun a Habit, explores this same idea through short stories, reflections, and exercises. In this episode, you'll hear: The story behind Mike's alter ego, Cuffy Why trying to control too much can backfire How silliness can reduce pressure and improve performance A reminder that creativity should feel alive, not just productive How fun can be a practice, not a prize Key takeaways: Perfectionism can disconnect you from joy and creativity Loosening up can create better results and a better experience You don't have to compare your beginning to someone else's middle Creativity is a personal resource for problem-solving, expression, and life Mentioned in this episode: Mike Brennan's book: Make Fun a Habit Website: mikebrennan.me About the host Mike Brennan is a creative guide who helps people reconnect with themselves through creativity. His work encourages listeners to live more colorfully, embrace their creative voice, and build a daily creative habit. Closing thought If you've been feeling stuck, tense, or overly serious in your creative life, this episode invites you to try something different, have some fun, and see what changes.

You can't think your way into being a good parent. You heal your way there. Dr. Shefali Tsabary, the pioneer of the conscious parenting movement, has sat across from Lewis before, but this conversation lands at a moment that feels different. The world your kids are growing up in has changed, and so has what they need from you. She walks through what is really happening to a generation raised by algorithms, why boys and girls get hijacked in completely different ways, what waits for any boy left uninitiated, and the quiet trap set for every parent who swore they would do it differently than their own. There is a blueprint underneath all of it. Pillars for raising a daughter who keeps her voice and her boundaries. A plan for a son no one is showing how to become a man. And a harder question sitting beneath the whole thing: are you raising a human being, or a human doing? If you have young kids, parts of this will rattle you. When the federal case against Jim Sullivan was dismissed in 1992, Lita McClinton's family thought they'd lost their last chance at justice. They were wrong — but it would take another fourteen years, a tip from a receptionist in a Texas refinery town, an international manhunt, and a four-year fugitive run through Costa Rica and Thailand before Lita's killer finally stood trial. In the second of a two-part series, writer Deb Miller Landau picks up the story where Part 1 left off: with a wealthy man getting away with murder. She walks us through the trucker who admitted to pulling the trigger, the prosecutor whose phone call may have tipped off the killer, the resort in Cha-Am where the FBI finally caught up with Jim Sullivan, and the verdict that came nearly twenty years after Lita McClinton answered her doorbell.Deb Landau's book is "A Devil Went Down to Georgia: Race, Power, Privilege, and the Murder of Lita McClinton":https://www.amazon.com/Devil-Went-Down-Georgia-Privilege/dp/1639366830Subscribe to our newsletter: https://jedlipinski.substack.com/ Connect with Jed Lipinski:https://www.instagram.com/gonesouthpodcast/https://www.facebook.com/groups/gonesouthpodcast/https://www.linkedin.com/in/jed-lipinski/

In today's episode, Gina shares the last part of her interview with listener Diane, who finishes her wisdom and experience from her own anxiety clearing journey and how ACP has helped her along the way. A key part of her message describes the differences between signals from the body and signals from the mind (and the external world). Being able to discern between the two have been very helpful for her. Diane shares a number of other practices that have help her in her anxiety clearing journey, listen in and try them out for yourself!Stillpoint Fridays is my once-a-week Friday note — a slower, more personal reflection that's different from what I share on the podcast. If you'd like a quiet place to land as the week winds down, you can join here: http://eepurl.com/bR2F9P or on our website anxietycoachespodcast.com and sign up for the newsletter. Please visit our Sponsor Page to find all the links and codes for our awesome sponsors! https://www.theanxietycoachespodcast.com/sponsors/Website https://www.theanxietycoachespodcast.comJoin our community Group Coaching Join our Group Coaching Full or Mini Membership Program1:1 Coaching Learn more about our One-on-One CoachingIf you prefer to listen AD-FREE, try our Supercast premium access membership:Learn more about anxiety What is anxiety?Free Guided Meditation for Calming Your Anxious Mind 10-Minute Body-Scan Meditation for AnxietyQuote:It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.-Confucius Chapters0:27 Recovery Starts with the Body3:10 Gentle Advice for Hard Days6:04 Diane's Practical Strategies10:16 Driving Fear and Milestones11:53 Helpful Resources and Prayers13:44 Healing Takes Daily PracticeSummaryIn this episode, we continue the interview with Diane about her anxiety recovery journey. She describes how she would tell her earlier self to start with the body first, including seeing a doctor, reducing news exposure, and using medication to get enough physical rest to begin healing. We then hear the practical steps she used over time: resting in a dark room, getting outside every day, slowing down physically, and returning to short meditation sessions. She explains that repeated listening to calming podcast episodes helped her, and that daily meditation became an important part of managing stress.Diane also talks about responding to difficult days by taking a big break, rescheduling tasks, and treating anxiety like a physical illness that needs care. She says calmer feels like relaxed muscles and a quieter mind, and she emphasizes that anxiety can create tension in the body and trigger a cycle that must be interrupted through ongoing practice. She shares a longer list of strategies that supported her recovery, including managing blood sugar, keeping medical and dental appointments, ending contact with people and groups that were not helpful, counting to 90 when alarmed, and building predictable routines. She also reduced media exposure, quit drinking alcohol, established morning silence with tea, gradually changed her bedtime, walked daily, and slowly re-entered social situations and driving after an accident.Diane closes by naming resources that helped her, including Claire Weekes, the 12 Symptoms of Inner Peace, the Center for Nonviolent Communication emotions list, Thich Nhat Hanh, The Power of Now, and the Serenity Prayer. The episode ends with a reminder that healing usually happens through small daily practices, not sudden change.#AnxietyRecovery #MentalHealth #AnxietyRelief #Mindfulness #Meditation #SelfCare #NervousSystemRegulation #PanicAttack #HealingJourney #InnerPeace #StressManagement #SlowDown #MentalWellness #Boundaries #HealthyRoutines #EmotionalHealth #AnxietyCoachesPodcast #OvercomingAnxiety #SoberCurious #PersonalGrowth #BreathingExercises #HolisticHealing #WellnessJourney #ACP #GinaRyanSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What if getting older doesn't mean doing less, but doing it better? In this installment of the Aging as an Athlete series, legendary ultrarunner Krissy Moehl welcomes longtime climber and Patagonia ambassador Kate Rutherford for a conversation about longevity, purpose, and evolving with age. Kate shares how decades of climbing taught her that technical skill, efficiency, and joy can eventually outweigh youthful strength and endurance. The discussion explores everything from body awareness and recovery to nutrition, community, and why learning to focus on what truly matters becomes one of the greatest athletic advantages. Whether you're a runner, climber, or simply hoping to stay active for life, this episode offers a refreshing perspective on growing older without giving up adventure. Kate is a long time professional climber, artist, advocate for wilderness, eater of leafy organic greens, president of Farm To Crag, and product line manager at Patagonia. Her passion for climbing has taken her all over the world including first ascents on Fitz Roy in Patagonia, Kenya, Iran, and Venezuela, a free ascent of El Capitan's Free Rider. She has had the opportunity to work with some amazing organizations, including Patagonia, La Sportiva, Edelrid, Black Diamond, Clif Bar, the Access Fund, and the American Alpine club. The combination of climbing, a biology degree from the Colorado College, rural homesteading in Alaska, subsistence hunting and fishing, carrots from Mom's garden, and watching organic regenerative agriculture's ability to combat climate change, has led me to co-found Farm to Crag. It is the perfect blend of climbing, stories, farms, maps, organic greens, environmental activism, and dinner parties. This episode unpacks the unique challenges faced by women leaders, their contributions to democracy, and the critical lessons they offer in the fight against authoritarianism. Enter the CFR book giveaway by July 8, 2026, for the chance to win one of ten free copies of Women in Power by Linda Robinson. You can read the terms and conditions of the offer here. Host: James M. Lindsay, Mary and David Boies Distinguished Senior Fellow in U.S. Foreign Policy, CFR Guest: Linda Robinson, Senior Fellow for Women and Foreign Policy, CFR; Author, Women in Power: Fighting for Democracy in an Age of Authoritarianism We Discuss: Why women's political representation has stalled at roughly 27 percent in the world's legislatures. How right-wing authoritarianism and the normalization of violent misogyny have combined to create ferocious headwinds for women in politics. Whether women govern differently from men, and what the research reveals about their attentiveness to health, education, welfare, and climate issues. Why rolling back women's rights is central to authoritarian and right-wing movements, and why playing the "misogyny card" proves so effective, even among women voters. Why some of the most prominent nationalist movements—in Italy, France, and Germany—are led by women, and how right-leaning figures like Giorgia Meloni complicate the picture. How authoritarian governments use hybrid warfare and gendered disinformation against women leaders, including Chinese campaigns against Taiwan's Tsai Ing-wen and Russian campaigns against Moldova's Maia Sandu. Which common themes emerge among successful women leaders. Which policy reforms could strengthen both democracy and women's political participation. Every day, men are dying. Not in some abstract, far-off statistic, but in your town, in your circles, maybe in your own family. They're isolated, disconnected, and being told the very things that make them men are the things that need to be fixed. Meanwhile, the culture cheers on the idea that hating men is a sign of strength, the family courts treat fathers as optional, and any space built exclusively for men gets torn down before it can do any good. Somewhere along the way, we decided men were the problem. My guest today says that's a lie, and he's got the platform to prove it. George from The TinMen joins me to talk about why men are checking out, dropping out of therapy, and ending their own lives at staggering rates, and what it actually takes to turn that around. This isn't about coddling men or excusing them. It's about telling the truth: men aren't broken, the system around them is. We get into male friendship, the war on masculinity, the family court system, and why "man up" might be the worst advice we ever gave. Have you ever bought something because it was "almost sold out" or because a sale was ending at midnight? If so, you're not alone. Scarcity is one of the most powerful forces influencing human behavior. When something becomes difficult to get, we often value it more—even if we weren't interested in it before. Marketers know this. That's why you'll see messages like "Only 3 left in stock," "Limited-time offer," or "Sale ends tonight." Sometimes those claims reflect genuine scarcity. Other times, they are carefully designed to create urgency and push you toward a decision. In this episode, we explore why scarcity is so effective, how it taps into fundamental human psychology, and the many ways businesses use it to influence what you buy. Joining me is Mindy Weinstein, a marketing instructor at Grand Canyon University and the University of Denver, as well as a program leader for The Wharton School and Columbia Business School. She is also author of the book The Power of Scarcity: Leveraging Urgency and Demand to Influence Customer Decisions (https://amzn.to/3QizF3u). What you'll discover: Why scarce products and opportunities instantly become more attractive. The difference between real scarcity and manufactured scarcity. How fear of missing out (FOMO) drives purchasing decisions. Why limited choices can sometimes make people more likely to act. Practical ways to recognize and resist scarcity-based manipulation.
