In this episode of the Straight White American Jesus Sunday Interview, host Leah Payne speaks with award-winning journalist and historian Caleb Gayle about his acclaimed book Black Moses: A Saga of Ambition and the Fight for a Black State. Caleb Gayle is an award-winning journalist and professor at Northeastern University. He is the author of We Refuse to Forget: A True Story of Black Creeks, American Identity, and Power and a contributing writer at The New York Times Magazine. His work has also appeared in The Atlantic, TIME, The Guardian, Guernica, The New Republic, and The Boston Globe. Longlisted for the National Book Award for Nonfiction, named one of The Washington Post's Best Nonfiction Books of the Year, and selected as a New York Times Editors' Choice, Black Moses tells the remarkable story of Edward McCabe, a Black political leader who nearly succeeded in founding a Black-governed state in the Oklahoma Territory at the turn of the twentieth century. Together, Payne and Gayle explore McCabe's ambitious political vision, the racial politics of the American West, and the broader historical context of Reconstruction, westward expansion, and Indigenous displacement. The conversation also reflects on how forgotten stories like McCabe's challenge familiar narratives about American democracy, race, and political imagination. In this episode: The cinematic structure of Black Moses and how Gayle and his editor shaped the narrative Who Edward McCabe was and why his story has largely disappeared from mainstream American history McCabe's audacious plan to create a Black state in the Oklahoma Territory The Reconstruction-era search for Black self-determination and how McCabe's vision differed from projects in Liberia or Haiti The American West as a site of competing dreams—and conflicts—among Black settlers, white settlers, and Indigenous nations McCabe's political strategy: organizing, coalition building, and attracting Black migration to Oklahoma Why Oklahoma ultimately aligned itself with Jim Crow politics during statehood The unfinished project of American democracy and the importance of political imagination Black Moses: A Saga of Ambition and the Fight for a Black State by Caleb Gayle Can the Rodeo Save a Historic Black Town? Beyond Awareness: Rewiring Subconscious Patterns to Shift From Survival to Creator Mode with Dr. Rochelle Vogt

What if the patterns running your life are not about weakness, but intelligent survival? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, hosted by Yusuf, mindfulness researcher and trauma resolution specialist Dr. Rochelle Vogt explores why awareness alone is not enough to create real change. This conversation is for anyone who feels stuck repeating the same emotional patterns, relationships, or reactions. Dr. Vogt explains how subconscious programming shapes most of our behavior, why the brain defaults to survival mode, and how shifting into “creator mode” allows us to make intentional choices instead of reacting to life. The episode also introduces her MAP (Make Anything Possible) method and how reconnecting with the subconscious can open new possibilities for healing and personal growth. About the Guest: Dr. Rochelle Vogt is a mindfulness researcher and trauma resolution specialist. She focuses on translating mind-body science into practical tools that help people shift subconscious patterns and move toward intentional living. Episode Chapters: 00:04:21 – Opening question: Is willpower just an old pattern? 00:04:47 – Welcome to Healthy Mind, Healthy Life 00:05:13 – Superconsciousness and subconscious patterns explained 00:05:41 – What “creator mode” looks like in everyday life 00:07:07 – Reacting to life vs consciously creating it 00:08:05 – Why digital stimulation keeps us in survival mode 00:09:24 – Why awareness alone does not create change Key Takeaways: Most daily behaviors are driven by subconscious patterns, not conscious decisions. Awareness is the first step, but deeper work is required to change ingrained neural pathways. Many repeated life patterns happen because the brain chooses what it knows you can survive. Shifting from reactive living to “creator mode” begins with slowing down and choosing intentionally. Techniques that work with the subconscious can help release old emotional imprints without reliving trauma. Over the last thirty years, Latin America has undergone an unprecedented wave of reparations targeting victims of political violence during military regimes, Indigenous and Afro-Latin groups affected by historical processes of dispossession, and citizens suffering from environmental harm. Reparations prompt us to face uncomfortable pasts and in so doing, create conditions for imagination of multiple futures. In representing the experiences and hopes of those affected by political violence in El Salvador and Argentina, environmental harm in Guatemala and Peru, and colonial dispossession in Chile and Bolivia, reparations are built upon conflictive forms of future imagination, translation of harm and new forms of belonging to and beyond the nation state, which reifies as much as challenges state authority over the promises of actual repair. In today's Latin American political debate, hopes for justice and democracy remain anchored to the question of the kinds of future that can be imagined through and after reparation. Piergiorgio Di Giminiani, Helene Risør, and Karine Vanthuyne discuss their edited volume, The Futures of Reparations in Latin America: Imagination, Translation, and Belonging (Rutgers UP, 2026) Piergiorgio Di Giminiani is an associate professor in anthropology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. exposure is relative Exposure Is Relative | Episode 605 Cold Isn't the Enemy—Being Unprepared Is When people think about exposure, they imagine extreme situations. Snowstorms. Mountains. Survival movies. But exposure doesn't have to be extreme to mess you up. It happens in normal life. Your car breaks down. Power goes out. You get stuck outside longer than expected. That's when it becomes real. Cold doesn't kill you just because it's cold. It kills you because you weren't ready for it. And here's the part most people miss—temperature is relative. What feels brutally cold to someone in the South is nothing to someone up North. Your body adapts… if you let it. You've Been Trained to Be Fragile Most people today live in constant comfort. Heated house. Heated car. Air-conditioned everything. You can go all day without actually feeling the environment. That's convenient. But it comes at a cost. Your body never adapts. Same thing with heat. Someone who works outside all day in the summer handles it just fine. Someone who lives in AC melts the second it gets hot. You don't rise to the occasion. You fall to your level of training. And if your training is comfort, you're in trouble the moment something goes wrong. People Experience Temperature Differently This is something people argue about all the time. “It's freezing in here.”“No it's not.” Both people can be right. Your tolerance is based on what you're used to. If you never expose yourself to heat or cold, your comfort zone gets smaller and smaller. That's not where you want to be. Because in a real-world situation, there is no thermostat to save you. Train It Before You Need It This is the part most people skip. You don't wait for an emergency to figure out how your body handles cold, heat, wind, or rain. You practice it. Go outside when it's cold. Not stupid cold, but uncomfortable cold. Take a walk. Do some work. Let your body deal with it. Same thing with heat. Spend time outside without immediately running back into AC. You're not trying to suffer. You're trying to adapt. The more you expose yourself in controlled ways, the less it shocks your system when it actually matters. Gear Helps—But It Won't Save You Alone Everyone loves gear. I love gear too. But gear doesn't replace experience. You can have a great jacket and still freeze if you don't understand layering or sweat management. You can have electrolytes and still crash in the heat if you don't pace yourself. Gear supports skill. It doesn't replace it. The Goal Isn't Hardcore—It's Less Fragile This isn't about becoming some extreme survival guy overnight. It's about becoming less fragile than you were yesterday. A little more tolerant of discomfort.A little more capable.A little more prepared. Because when something goes sideways—and it will—you don't want your first experience with exposure to be during an emergency. You want it to be something you've already handled. In this important and thoughtful episode of Quietly Visible, host Carol Stewart is joined by employment discrimination attorney Brittany Stevens, a multi-award-winning partner at Phillips & Associates. Together, they explore the realities of sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace — a topic that still affects a significant number of women globally.Brittany shares insights from her work advocating for employees who have experienced harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. The conversation explores why so many incidents go unreported, how power dynamics can make it difficult for women to speak up, and what steps individuals can take if they find themselves in this situation. Carol and Brittany also discuss the emotional impact of workplace harassment and the importance of creating environments where people feel safe to raise concerns. This episode offers practical guidance as well as reassurance for anyone navigating difficult workplace dynamics.Key TakeawaysSexual harassment remains widespread: Many women experience unwelcome behaviour at work, yet a significant number of cases go unreported due to fear of retaliation or damage to career prospects.Power dynamics matter: Harassment often occurs where there is a strong imbalance of power, making it especially difficult for early-career professionals to speak up.Documentation can be powerful: Keeping records, messages, and written complaints can help support a claim if someone decides to report harassment.Retaliation is unlawful: Employees have legal protections when they raise concerns about harassment, although retaliation can sometimes appear in subtle forms.Workplace culture matters: Organisations must actively enforce policies and create environments where employees feel safe reporting inappropriate behaviour. If you've ever wondered what your rights are, how to navigate a difficult workplace situation, or how organisations can better support their people, this episode provides valuable insight and encouragement.

In this episode, we each picked eight transfers — four on offense, four on defense, one quarterback max — that we find most interesting heading into the 2026 season. Why these guys? It comes down to situation, scheme fit, prior production, and in some cases, just a gut feeling that something's about to click at the next stop. We get into the players following their coaches to new destinations, the quarterback pickups nobody saw coming, the edge rushers changing conferences, and the linebackers ready to take over defenses. The big themes keep coming up: how much does coaching familiarity actually matter, can G5 numbers translate to a Power 4 schedule, and what happens when a proven producer lands in a more stable situation? He earned an M.B.A. from Utah State University, and was a consultant with Deloitte and an HR leader in the construction and manufacturing industries, prior to forming his own consultancy. Michael is the author of How Leaders Can Inspire Accountability and Succession Planning That Works. Links Watch the video and share your thoughts in the Zion Lab community How Leaders Can Inspire Accountability: Three Habits That Make or Break Leaders and Elevate Organizational Performance How to Claim Your Leadership Power | Michael Timms MichaelTimms.com Transcript available with the video in the Zion Lab community Highlights Michael talks about the principles of accountability within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The discussion focuses on how leaders can foster a culture of ownership and high performance among volunteers without relying on the traditional levers of corporate consequences. 00:01:46 – The Challenge of Motivation and Accountability 00:02:18 – Introduction of Michael Timms and His Expertise 00:02:53 – Michael Timms’ Background and Approach to Accountability 00:03:59 – Accountability in a Faith Context 00:04:32 – Defining Accountability 00:06:18 – Understanding Results in a Church Context 00:09:23 – Starting Points for Accountability in Organizations 00:11:06 – The Role of Leaders in Accountability 00:12:20 – Key Behaviors for Modeling Accountability 00:14:21 – Setting Expectations in Leadership 00:16:43 – Importance of Feedback and Communication 00:20:03 – Clarifying Purpose and Results 00:21:36 – Establishing Expectations for Team Dynamics 00:24:24 – Addressing Accountability Breakdowns 00:26:45 – Three Habits of Personal Accountability 00:29:02 – Motivating People in a Volunteer Organization 00:30:26 – The Power of Positive Feedback 00:32:12 – Giving Ownership to Team Members 00:34:12 – Scenarios for Accountability in Activities 00:39:17 – Handling Blame in Accountability Conversations 00:41:39 – Avoiding Micromanagement in Leadership Key Insights Redefining Accountability: Timms defines accountability as taking ownership of results and focusing on the actions necessary to achieve the right outcomes, rather than using it as a euphemism for blame or punishment. The Power of Modeling: Accountability begins with the leader; if those in positions of authority do not own their mistakes or seek feedback, others in the organization are unlikely to do so. Defining Results: In a faith context, “results” should be defined broadly—such as bringing people closer to Christ—and then distilled into specific goals, such as building testimonies or improving how members feel about their Sunday experience. Setting Clear Expectations: High-performing teams agree on general guidelines for how they will work together—such as preferred communication methods and response times—before diving into the work. Three Habits of Personal Accountability: Michael highlights three essential behaviors for leaders: avoiding blame, “looking in the mirror” to see how they contributed to a problem, and “engineering the solution” by fixing broken systems or processes. Motivation Through Ownership: Motivating volunteers is best achieved by giving them a say in outcomes, providing frequent positive feedback to trigger a sense of progress, and granting them true decision-making power within councils. Leadership Applications Requesting Feedback: Leaders can improve performance by sincerely asking those they lead for feedback on how to make it easier for them to achieve their goals. Systemic Problem Solving: When a task is not completed, Michael suggests leaders should ask “where did the process break down?” rather than “who dropped the ball?” to reduce defensiveness and improve future results. Standardizing Procedures: Implementing standard operating procedures for recurring events—such as meeting agendas or baptismal services—helps ensure consistency and reduces the mental load on volunteers. The Detroit Lions kept stacking useful pieces. On this Detroit Lions Podcast, Jeff Risdon, Chris, and Michael Grey broke down three new additions, all on one-year deals. Edge DJ Wonnum, wide receiver Greg Dortch, and linebacker Raymond Clark arrived as targeted fits. Another signing could be coming soon. New arrivals and a one-year plan The front office is leaning into short-term, role-specific help. Each deal is a fill-in. The message is clear. Add competitive depth without blocking long-term answers. The hosts also noted movement on another potential addition, with word that another Jones could be in play. The expectation is more action today. Edge plan: DJ Wonnum and the Paschal template Wonnum checks the Lions' NFL edge profile. Physical style. Power to speed. Edge setter. He plays the run on the way to the quarterback better than he rushes the passer. That should sound familiar. Think the role carved out for Josh Paschal. Early in his career, this type has handled c gap and b gap snaps and bumped outside as needed. The vision is obvious. Wonnum can work five tech, set sturdy edges, and finish when opportunities come. He has starting experience and some sack production. He fits as a part-time player, likely edge three or edge four, depending on how the rest of the room shakes out. The depth chart mentions tied to this move matter too. Makai Wingo's best spot is still in question. Ahmed Hassanein's development is a variable. Levi Anserrique Reed has played outside and can handle five tech. The piece today is about defined jobs. Wonnum gives them one. Slot and return game: Greg Dortch's fit with Petzing Dortch brings juice to the slot and special teams. He is five-foot-seven-ish, around a buck eighty, and a proven return specialist from the Arizona Cardinals. He worked with Drew Petzing and spoke at length about that trust in his introductory Zoom. He talked about love of football again and again, and his energy jumped off the screen. Dortch has bounced around, was advised at one point to consider the CFL, then the Cardinals gave him a shot. He ran with it. He is very sure handed, with a high catch rate over recent years. In Detroit, he profiles as a quick separator and secure outlet who can flip field position in the return game. Linebacker depth and what comes next Raymond Clark adds competition at linebacker. Another one-year, role-focused piece. Special teams and sub-package snaps are in play. The Lions are not done. The hosts repeated that. Expect another signing, with indications that talks on another Jones are moving. This roster building approach matches the recent surge of part-time, short-term additions. It fits the moment. Add the right tools. Keep flexibility. Let camp sort the rest. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #djwonnum #gregdortch #damoneclark #nflfreeagency Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

You'll hear from Gregg Braden on why your emotional environment is your most powerful tool, Dr. Joe Dispenza on the neuroscience of believing before seeing, and Rhonda Byrne on why talking about what you don't want keeps it locked in place. Dr. Tara Swart breaks down the brain science of visualization, while Dr. James Doty explains the physiology of intention and how synchronicities actually work. Gary Zukav illuminates the two fundamental laws that govern every result you create, and Tabitha Brown shares how walking in your truth is the only way to attract what's truly meant for you. These aren't abstract concepts. Every insight is grounded in science, backed by research, and proven in the real lives of people who've transformed everything from their health to their relationships to their bank accounts. Many individuals grappling with anxiety often question the intensity of their feelings, the depth of their thoughts, and their heightened awareness of minor shifts in situations. Today, I aim to provide a comforting perspective: anxiety can arise from the natural interplay between one's personality traits and external stressors, rather than being seen as a personal shortcoming. We begin our exploration with Neuroticism, a trait characterized by emotional sensitivity, which correlates strongly with anxiety. Those high in this trait are quick to recognize potential threats and often feel emotions more deeply. While this heightened sensitivity can lead to increased worry and rumination, it also brings valuable strengths such as empathy and intuition. My key message for anxious listeners is that learning to soothe a sensitive nervous system is more beneficial than attempting to completely change one's innate responses. Understanding this aspect of ourselves can foster a sense of empowerment rather than defeat.Moving into Conscientiousness, we examine the traits of being organized, responsible, and goal-oriented. While these qualities can provide structure and stability, they may also lead to perfectionism and an internalized pressure to perform flawlessly. I encourage those who resonate with this trait to cultivate self-compassion, recognizing that it's okay to make mistakes and that human fallibility is part of the journey.#AnxietyCoachesPodcast #BigFive #OCEANModel #MentalHealthAwareness #NervousSystem #PersonalityTraits #GinaRyan #AnxietyRelief #SelfCompassion #Neuroticism #Conscientiousness #IntrovertProblems #HighlySensitivePerson #PsychologyTips #Mindfulness #EmotionalWellbeing #StressManagement #HolisticHealth #InnerPeace #SelfUnderstanding #EmotionalSensitivity #MentalHealthMatters #OvercomingAnxiety #PersonalityPsychology #HSP #Empathy #SelfGrowth #NervousSystemRegulation #CarlJung #EmotionalIntelligence #MindBodyConnection #CalmYourMind #InnerHarmony #PersonalDevelopment #Overthinking #AnxietySupport #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Survivor AU: Redemption Week 4 Exit Interviews Australian Survivor: Redemption is back with another week of blindsides, bold moves, and heartbreak as host Mike Bloom sits down for exclusive exit interviews with stand-out competitors Aisha and Faith. In these revealing chats, Mike uncovers the real stories behind two of the most dramatic pre-merge exits of the season—both orchestrated by savvy returning players. From risky challenge throws to missed idol plays, this episode peels back the layers on what really happens when the game flips on its head. This episode, the chaos ramps up as tribe dynamics shift and trust erodes. Aisha reflects on the fateful tribal where she holds an idol she won't play out of loyalty, only to be sent home in a move she calls both impressive and humbling. She breaks down her alliances with Cameron, Lottie, and Richard, how a misfired challenge throw put her in the crosshairs, and why she underestimated the “Beauty and the Beast” alliance. Faith takes us inside her surprise boot, giving context to her relationship with Mark—the alliance's power struggles, her reputation for honest confessionals, and how cross-tribe connections sealed her fate. Both castaways reckon with the sting of trusting the wrong people and the razor-thin margins of Survivor strategy. Idol hesitation: Aisha details why she wouldn't play Blanche's idol at Tribal—and how the fast-paced vote left both idols out of play. Challenge drama: Both Aisha and her allies attempt to throw challenges to control their fates, but plans backfire spectacularly. Honest gameplay: Faith's direct confessions—like warning Johnson or her exchange with Mark—spark fiery camp reactions and influence the vote. Power struggles: The tension between Faith and Mark comes to a head, exposing how controlling alliances can splinter under pressure. Alliance flips: Listeners get insight on how relationships evolve and when trusting old allies becomes a fatal flaw. Will future castaways learn from these pivotal exits, or is throwing a challenge still a tempting risk? What happens when honesty at camp becomes a double-edged sword? This is the fourth live Q&A from the Jesus and Galilee class with John Dominic Crossan — recorded, appropriately, on St. Patrick's Day, which means Dom is operating with a slight green halo and absolutely zero intention of slowing down. The questions this week go deep into parable theory: what it actually means for a parable to "point elsewhere," why the Parable of the Sower is not about sowing, what the Parable of the Vineyard Workers is doing to anyone in the crowd who has ever stood all day looking for work and been blamed for standing there, and why Luke's version of the Good Samaritan is both right and a domestication of something far more dangerous. Dom takes apart the three sub-genres — riddle, example, and challenge parables — shows how the tradition keeps sliding one into another, and makes the case that Job, Ruth, and Jonah are all challenge parables of the Hebrew Bible aimed at blowing up the certainties of post-exilic restoration theology. There's a devastating reading of the Eucharist as a public political declaration that you are willing to die for what Jesus died for, a meditation on why comic eschatology is the first great act of resistance against autocracy, and a moment where Dom explains why he became an American citizen in 2000 — and it will not surprise you. Your Life Follows Your Focus (Part 2): Fix Your Eyes on Jesus In a world where everyone is competing for your attention, learning to focus may be one of the most important spiritual disciplines a disciple can develop. In this second episode in his Power of Focus series, Rob Skinner shares a powerful message from a recent sermon in Boston about why disciples of Jesus must intentionally direct their attention toward Christ. Philippians 2 calls believers to have the same mindset as Christ Jesus—a mindset marked by humility, sacrifice, and obedience. But the challenge is that the world constantly pulls our focus in other directions. Comparison. Success. Approval. Pleasure. Entertainment. Just like racehorses wear blinders to keep their eyes fixed on the track, disciples must decide where their attention will go. When racehorses look sideways, they slow down and lose the race. In the same way, when believers constantly compare themselves with others or chase distractions, they lose spiritual focus. The solution is simple but powerful: Fix your attention on Jesus. In this episode, Rob shares a practical spiritual habit called Christ-focused reading—spending intentional time in passages of Scripture that reveal the character and identity of Jesus. Passages like: • Philippians 2 – The humility of Christ • Colossians 1 – The supremacy of Christ • The Sermon on the Mount – The teachings of Christ By slowly reflecting on these passages and asking, "What does this reveal about Jesus?" disciples begin to absorb His character and imitate His example. Transformation doesn't happen by accident. It happens when we intentionally direct our attention toward Christ. Because in the end, your life truly follows your focus. Key Scriptures Philippians 2:5–11 "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus…" Colossians 1:15–17 "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation…" Practical Challenge Try this simple practice this week: Spend time reading passages that focus directly on the character of Jesus. Slow down. Reflect on what the passage reveals about Him. Ask yourself: How can I imitate this today? Because discipleship is not about perfection. It's about direction and attention. “If you read this book on a Friday, we promise you will be better at your job on Monday.” In the high-stakes environment of the Emergency Department, we often focus on the “big saves,” but what if the secret to a thriving career lies in the tiny details? In part one of this special two-part series, we sit down with Dr. Resa Lewiss, an emergency and lifestyle medicine physician, TEDMED speaker, and co-author of the hit book Micro Skills: Small Actions, Big Impact. We dive into why the “workplace playbook” isn’t always handed to us and how breaking down overwhelming professional goals into small, actionable behaviors can transform your trajectory. What Exactly Are “Micro Skills”? Dr. Lewiss defines Micro Skills as the small, actionable behaviors and steps that serve as the building blocks for achieving massive goals. Whether it's tackling an overwhelming project or building a habit you thought was “just for other people,” almost everything can be broken down into these manageable units. For Dr. Lewiss and her co-author, Dr. Adaira Landry, these skills are the “missing playbook” they wish they'd had earlier in their careers. Early Career: The Micro Skills of Self-Care For those just entering the workforce—from residents to new attendings—the focus must be on sustainability. Become an “Award-Winning Sleeper”: Stop wearing exhaustion as a badge of honor. Dr. Lewiss highlights why sleep is a professional necessity, not a luxury. The Personal Board of Directors: Create a “round table” of go-to people—mentors, peers, and sponsors—who can help you navigate professional and personal hurdles. Mid-Career: Navigating Conflict & Team Dynamics As physicians gain competence and move into leadership, the challenges become more interpersonal. The “Paper Tiger” Colleague: Learn how to identify coworkers who project authority they don't actually have by trusting your “Spidey sense”, checking organizational charts, asking established leadership. Inquiring Carefully: When navigating workplace tension, focus on avoiding gossip and seeking clarity from trusted supervisors. Late Career: Modeling Culture & Professionalism Seasoned physicians have the greatest power to shift the culture of a department. The Scheduled Send: Protect your team's “deliberate rest” by scheduling emails to arrive during standard business hours. From Bystander to Upstander: Use your seniority to shut down unprofessional behavior with simple scripts like, “I don't understand the joke, can you explain it to me?” Coming Up in Part 2… The conversation continues! In the next episode, we explore the “Power of the Pause,” why Dr. Lewiss advocates for the “Joy of Missing Out” (JOMO), and a simple three-question framework (Start, Stop, Continue) to get the meaningful feedback you actually need to grow. We want to hear from you! Which of these micro skills resonated with you? Have you been able to apply these to your daily life and medical practice? In this episode, you'll discover: The First Step to Success: Why you must be "procurement ready" before chasing any contract and how to avoid the pitfall of overpromising. The Power of the Debrief: Learn how one business owner turned a lost proposal into a direct pipeline to a contracting officer by simply asking, "What did we do wrong?" Your Secret Weapon (It's Free): Why your Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS) profile on SBA.gov is more important than your website and how to optimize it with the right keywords so contracting officers can find you. Trucking & Transportation Secrets: Specific strategies for finding opportunities in a massive industry, from disaster relief contracts to subcontracting with major logistics players like Crowley. The "Back Office" Myth: How important is your infrastructure when starting out? We break down what you actually need to have in place. Community is Key: Why surrounding yourself with people who understand the grind (and the language) of government contracting is essential to your success. Featured Success Stories: A brand-new LED lighting company shares how persistence and a "strategic list" led to four capability briefings in a single day. A video production owner explains how a debriefing after a loss opened a direct line of communication with the government. A printing business learns about the massive, untapped demand for marketing and creative services within federal agencies. 5 Years from Retirement? Here's Your Planning Blueprint

    The Power Of Zero Show

In this episode of the Power of Zero Show David McKnight gives you a blueprint with the key steps to follow for a successful and stress-free retirement if you're about five years away. The first step is figuring out your retirement income shortfall, the income you'll need every month in retirement, as well as how much of that will be covered by sources like Social Security and pensions. The retirement income shortfall represents the amount of income your retirement assets need to produce in order to fund your lifestyle. One strategy many retirees rely on is taking a portion of their liquid retirement savings, often from a traditional IRA or 401(k), and rolling it into an annuity designed to produce inflation-adjusted lifetime income. The second pillar of the blueprint discussed by David are investments: Roughly 70% to a total U.S. stock market index fund, and 30% to a total international stock market index fund. While things like paying the electric bill or putting food on the table are covered by your guaranteed income sources, this portfolio is designed to fund discretionary expenses (e.g. taking the grandkids to Disneyland, traveling, etc.) and unexpected shock expenses. David emphasizes that, by investing this discretionary bucket entirely in stocks rather than bonds, you increase the likelihood that the portfolio will last through your actuarial life expectancy. "When properly structured and funded, an index universal life policy or IUL can serve as a volatility buffer within your retirement plan", says David. Furthermore, a IUL policy can also provide a death benefit that can be accessed in advance of your death for the purpose of paying for long-term care… Remember: Retirement planning isn't about guessing what the market will do, it's about building a system where your basic needs are guaranteed, your growth assets continue compounding and you have the tools in place to manage volatility and unexpected risks.     Mentioned in this episode: David's new book, available now for pre-order: The Secret Order of Millionaires David's national bestselling book: The Guru Gap: How America's Financial Gurus Are Leading You Astray, and How to Get Back on Track Tax-Free Income for Life: A Step-by-Step Plan for a Secure Retirement by David McKnight DavidMcKnight.com DavidMcKnightBooks.com PowerOfZero.com (free video series) @mcknightandco on Twitter  @davidcmcknight on Instagram David McKnight on YouTube Get David's Tax-free Tool Kit at taxfreetoolkit.com

Power doesn't come from pushing harder. It comes from getting quieter.  In this episode of Intuition: Your Joy Compass, I challenge the idea that urgency equals productivity. So much of what we hear in business culture says you have to hustle, push, and stay in constant motion to succeed. But in my experience as a coach, and in my own life, that kind of pressure often disconnects us from our intuition, our clarity, and our real authority.  I share how slowing down has actually led to better decisions, better outcomes, and surprisingly, my most successful year in business. From waiting for the right bonded pair of rescue cats to appear, to releasing pressure around revenue goals and working fewer client hours, these choices created more alignment, not less success.  We'll talk about how pushing the nervous system leads to resistance, burnout, and "saboteur" reactions, and how calm leadership, both with ourselves and with others, creates stability and trust. I also introduce simple Positive Intelligence practices, like sensory grounding "PQ reps," that help interrupt stress patterns and bring the brain back to clarity and innovation.  If you've been told you need to hustle harder, this episode offers a different perspective: sometimes the most powerful move is to pause, regulate your nervous system, and lead from calm.
