Today, we're joined by Justin (8w7) and Trisha Davis (3w2), a couple whose story holds both heartbreak and a hard-won hope. We talk honestly about the Eight–Three dance in marriage—intensity, drive, image, and protection—and how those same strengths can be magic when we're healthy and toxic when we're not. We also dive into their new book, One Choice Away from Change: Break the Cycles that Hurt Your Relationships and Hold You Back. They remind us that real transformation isn't about muscling through—it's about naming the wound, choosing presence over performance, and practicing honest vulnerability. Justin shares how confusing help with weakness fueled secrecy and performance—and how grief became a doorway to healing. Trisha reflects on the Three's chameleon move, learning to show up without over-achieving, and a wise reframing of the Enneagram as “not a weapon and not an excuse.” Together, they walk us through surviving an affair, pastoring through COVID, late-in-life family revelations, and the truth that forgiveness is not a one-and-done event. Their North Star: when they're healthy, they're magic; when they're not, they're toxic—and daily choices make the difference. If you've tried to achieve your way out of pain or sprinted past grief because it felt inefficient, this conversation will meet you in the messy middle. We explore relief vs. recovery, acting our way into new feelings, and why you can't heal a wound you won't name. It's tender, practical, and full of hope. I hope you'll tune in. About our guests Justin and Trisha Davis are pastors, authors, speakers, and the founders of RefineUs Ministries. They're not perfect. They're not interested in pretending. They are passionate about helping others experience real healing and deeper connection. Together, they co-authored Beyond Ordinary: When a Good Marriage Just Isn't Good Enough, and Justin's book Being Real > Being Perfect: How Transparency Leads to Transformation is a USA Today bestseller. Justin and Trisha have been married for 30 years, have five kids and live in Indianapolis. The Susquehannocks, having successfully escaped from their beseiged fort on Piscataway Creek in Maryland, fled through the Virginia Piedmont to set up winter quarters on the James and Roanoke Rivers. In January 1676, they launched a measured counterattack. The settlers on the frontier panicked and evacuated. Rumors of war spread. The horrors of King Philip's War loomed large, especially in the thinking of Sir William Berkeley, the governor. A fundamental debate over how to respond to those Susquehannock attacks set up the confrontation between Nathaniel Bacon and his populist - and it should be said, hard-drinking - frontiersmen on the one hand, and Berkeley and his loyalist supporters on the other. Along the way we consider Governor Berkeley's background and the experiences that shaped him, and the political challenges that he now confronted. The episode ends with Bacon's massacre of the Occaneechees (Occaneechis), heretofore allies of Virginia, on their island in the Roanoke River. Check out the new merch store! In this episode, I introduce you to Lynette M. who has 7 adults living in their house. She's married, has a son and his wife, 2 other sons, and a daughter all under one roof. Lynette had so much paper she didn't know how to deal with it after she'd “decluttered” it. She found Organize 365® as a paper organizing expert when searching for solutions. Lynette had success with Marie Kondo in decluttering from 27 sweaters, 11 pairs of gloves (did I mention she lives in central FL?), multiple pairs of jeans, and 3,000 books. But when she got to the 5 filing cabinets of paper she knew she needed help! Once she found Organize 365® and heard me talking about my son having and IEP and the Warrior Mama binder, Lynette thought to herself “she gets me!” She also loves the way realistic expectations are talked about. If your child has an IEP in school, those “limitations” don't go away after they graduate. Some kids may not go on to college. There's a message of acceptance of alternative paths after secondary education from Organize 365® that resonates with Lynette. Lynette had children move back home after medical setbacks. She decided to do a financial reset for them and financial education for her other children. She got them all Launch Binders and holds a Tuesday night budget meeting to teach them the basics so when they go out on their own again (prospective deadlines have been set) that they will be successful. I could not believe what I was hearing as Lynette explained her situation. This theme is becoming familiar; children back home for financial reset for various reasons. In 2000's only 10-20% of students needed an IEP. In 2012, it had risen to 30-50% of students needing an IEP, I mean do you think a magic wand is waved when they graduate high school and all of the sudden they are ready for higher education and the careers that follow? When you have a learning disability, you find work arounds to learn. Organization is a learnable skill and it is the executive function work around for things like ADHD that Lynette was diagnosed with in her adulthood. We know a lot of families are dealing with these obstacles but no one is talking about it. Lynette and I had a great conversation about what a “nutjob” I was back in the day causing commotion over vaccines and red dye. But funny now, studies are coming out and proving legitimacy over the concerns I had way back when. Lynette experienced some similar situations as myself. As the household managers we know our families the best and are best equipped to advocate for our families. We know what is going on better than the doctors offices, schools, and the government. This is not isolated to just the two of us, it's happening in 1,000's of homes. Lynette has used the binders to teach her kids about finances, to have awkward conversations about she and her husband's modest estate, and about assigning power of health care now that they are older than 18. In an “instant world” it was helpful to have conversations about not getting paid out daily from work and when to actually take advantage of Door Dash. The binders offer a way to teach without insulting their knowledge. It has also been a way to share differing viewpoints in a respectful way. Lynette runs three businesses and could not do so without Planning day and the Sunday Baskets®, let's not worry about how many she has. She stated if she's not intentionally planning, she's the one that gets ran over. She's still learning and trying to perfect her Sunday Basket® routine as she helps others learn how to live healthy, to play piano, and organize their paper as the Clutter Coach. And preemptive planning that she does gives her the decision bandwidth that in a crisis she would lack. Lynette shared recently hearing “Everyday you are preparing or repairing.” And amidst it all, in her menopausal journey, it's the organizing that has helped her to get the angst out of her body! Lynette's Advise: “Don't wait till it's perfect to start your business.” EPISODE RESOURCES: The Sunday Basket® The Paper Solution® The Productive Home Solution® Home Planning Day Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter On the Wednesday podcast, I get to talk with members of the Organize 365® community as they share the challenges, progress, missteps and triumphs along their organizing journey. What if the deepest work God does in us happens when no one sees? When we feel forgotten, disillusioned, or unsure if our faith is still intact? Most of us would rather skip the wilderness. But what if the desert isn't punishment—it's preparation? This week on Win Today, international recording artist Evan Craft joins us for a raw and honest conversation about faith in the silence, finding God in the dark night of the soul, and what it means to serve when no one applauds. Together, we confront the cynicism that creeps in when life feels unfair, the pressure to perform for spiritual approval, and the questions we rarely admit we're asking, especially when God doesn't move how we expected. If you've ever felt forgotten by God or frustrated with the silence, this episode is for you. Episode Links Show Notes Buy my NEW BOOK "Healing What You Can't Erase" here! Nick Bromell is the author of By the Sweat of the Brow: Labor and Literature in Antebellum American Culture and Tomorrow Never Knows: Rock and Psychedelics in the Sixties, both published by the University of Chicago Press. His articles and essays on African American literature and political thought have appeared in American Literature, American Literary History, Political Theory, Raritan, and The Sewanee Review. He teaches at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and he blogs at thetimeisalwaysnow.org. Nick Bromell's book is a work of intellectual history and political theory that places Black thinkers—writers, activists, and artists—at the center of American democratic thought. He argues that African American intellectual traditions have continually reshaped the meaning of democracy in the U.S., offering critiques and visions that go beyond the frameworks typically emphasized in mainstream political philosophy. The title, taken from James Baldwin's writings, reflectsthe idea that democracy is never finished—it is always urgent and ongoing. The Time is Always Now: Black Political Thought and the Transformation of U.S. Democracy (Oxford UP, 2013) posits that Black thought epitomizes the crucible of American Democratic theory Bromell contends that African American thinkers are not simply responding to oppression but actively producing political theory—ideasabout freedom, justice, equality, and collective life. Their insights emerge from lived experiences of slavery, segregation, and racial inequality, which provide a unique vantage point for critiquing American democracy.Secondly, Democracy is an ongoing and incomplete project of reconstruction, renewal, and revival. Building on Baldwin's phrase “the time is always now,” Bromell argues that democracy must be constantly reimagined and fought for. Black intellectual traditions highlight democracy's fragility and incompleteness, challenging myths of American exceptionalism.Third, American Democracy exists beyond what are known to be traditional American institutions. While mainstream American political theory often places focus on constitutions, governments, or laws, Black thinkers and citizens emphasize affective, relational, and cultural dimensions of democracy—dimensions that exhibit and feature American virtues and values of community, solidarity, and recognition.Fourth, Professor Bromell calls for a vibrant relational empathy and mutual recognition. In this sense, Bromell highlights Black thought's insistence on recognition of shared humanity and mutual vulnerability as the foundation for democraticpractice. Thinkers as varied as James Baldwin, Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King Jr, Toni Morrison, and Ralph Ellison stress the necessity of empathy as a civic virtue. Bromell reframes African American intellectual history as politicaltheory, not just cultural or social commentary. He challenges readers to recognize that the deepest resources fordemocratic renewal in America come from traditions forged under conditions of racial oppression. Ultimately The Time is Always Now insists that democracy is less about stable American institutions and more about the practice of bettering and refining incipient features of American institutions-facing each other honestly, acknowledging and shouldering of collective pain, and being committed to a shared mutual recognition of the totality of our collective experience. One of the hardest times in anyone's life is when we lose someone who is still alive. Perhaps they cut us off, perhaps we cut them off, or perhaps it was mutual. But either way, the pain, regret, blame, and open wound of hope make this type of loss particularly difficult. There are countless books written about grief. When someone we love passes, friends and family offer their support. But when we lose the living, we often suffer alone. Taking time to grieve seems strange and futile. So what can we do when a hole is left in our heart by someone who still walks this earth? In this podcast, I share my own personal stories of family estrangement and family separation, abandonment and betrayal. I talk about what helped me get out of the darkest place of my life. I discuss the lessons I learned, what I wish someone had told me, and the healing that is possible. Please enjoy other episodes where I share meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. Ambivalence isn't confusion or weakness, it's your nervous system doing its job. Feeling both joy and grief, relief and loss, fear and excitement, is not dysfunction but survival wisdom. In this episode of Trauma Rewired, Elisabeth Kristof and Jennifer Wallace unpack ambivalence as a neurobiological phenomenon: how the brain and body construct emotions, why conflicting truths arise during transformation, and how to metabolize them without collapse. You'll learn to notice the tug-of-war between emotions, expand capacity to sit with duality, and reframe ambivalence as part of post-traumatic growth. By honoring both sides, joy and sorrow, fear and courage, you can create deeper connection with yourself and move through change with clarity and trust. The Many Faces of Light: Understanding Light Runners, Light Healers, Light Changers, Light Bearers, and Light LeadersFor centuries, humanity has spoken of those who carry spiritual awareness and cosmic connection as workers of light. Across traditions, they've been called mystics, shamans, healers, prophets, seers, and guides. In today's spiritual language, five distinct archetypes shine brightly: Light Runner, Light Healer, Light Changer, Light Bearer, and Light Leader. While each shares the common essence of divine illumination, their expressions are unique—woven into the greater tapestry of human awakening. In this episode, Laurie explores how these different paths of light show up in service, energy, action, and consciousness, and what they reveal about your own spiritual role.At the heart of this conversation is the powerful metaphor of light:· Awareness and clarity to see what is true· Healing and transformation as illumination dissolves shadow· Hope and guidance, like a flame leading the way· The spark of divine presence alive within every soulJoin Laurie to discover the many ways light moves through us—and how recognizing your own archetype can empower your journey of awakening.Send us a textSupport the showThanks for listening - For questions or comments email Laurie at Laurie@yourlifecore.comInstagram @yourlifecore or Twitter @yourlifecore Facebook https://www.facebook.com/YourLifecoreWebsite www.yourlifecore.com

In this teaching, Samuel emphasizes the importance of anchoring prayer in biblical understanding and practice, using the upper room as a strong imagery. He discusses the significance of waiting upon the Lord and praying according to God's will, rather than personal desires. Samuel highlights the transformative power of waiting and prayer, which refine and prepare individuals for the fulfillment of God's promises. He draws parallels between the disciples' experience in the upper room and the process of spiritual growth, stressing the need for obedience, submission, and alignment with the Holy Spirit. Ultimately, Samuel encourages a prayer life that seeks God's will, allowing for personal transformation and a deeper connection with the divine.
✦ But first, one of the special things about the Atlanta art scene is the small and intimate art galleries that focus on a particular artistic style. City Lights Collective member Katina Pappas-DeLuca sat down with Anja and Jumbe Sebunya, the founders and curators of aKAZI ATL, to learn more about their gallery of contemporary African art and their upcoming exhibition titled "Peace, Reconciliation, and the Potential for Transformation." ✦ This Saturday, September 27, the Avondale Estates Town Green will transform into a surf rock haven, featuring a lineup of local and national bands serving up a full day of reverb-drenched, beach-ready tunes. With DJs, vendors, and free admission, it's an all-ages celebration of the classic surf rock sound. City Lights Collective producer Josh Thane caught up with festival organizer Richard Hawes to dive into what makes this year's Southern Surf StompFest a must. ✦ City Lights Collective members Jasmine Hentschel and EC Flamming, the creatives behind Atlanta's visual art print magazine, "GULCH", want you to get out and engage with the city's art scene. They've been joining us weekly since the show launched, spotlighting five standout happenings. Today, they'll cover Atlanta Art Fair's return to Pullman Yards for its second year in operation, an immersive indoor/outdoor art festival at Goat Farm's sprawling 12-acre campus and kick off the fall season at Atlanta Contemporary with a roster of exhibition openings. ✦ Nature's natural patterns often look like stitched-together works of art. Whenever you look at the underside of a leaf or up close at the petals of a flower, symmetrical patterns and lines are on display. In Myrtie Cope's solo exhibition "Nature Embroidered," she photographs nature and landscapes, then hand embroiders them with cotton or silk thread...enhancing nature's patterns with texture. Her work is on display at Blue Heron Nature Preserve's indoor gallery through October 22. WABE arts reporter Summer Evans spoke with Cope about her exhibit. ✦When you start your career in music backing Shelia E and Prince in Tokyo when you're eighteen, and your most recent accomplishment, three decades later, is writing songs for Beyonce's Cowboy Carter, the Grammy award-winning album of the year, you might ask, what else could you possibly want to do? Well, Soul and R&B legend Raphael Saadiq has an answer for you. Mr. Saddiq spoke with City Lights Collective Co-host Jon Goode about his latest project, "The No Bandwidth Tour: One Man, One Night, Three Decades of Hits." In this episode of Ordinary Discipleship, Chris, Jacob, and Jessie Cruickshank dive into the vital practice of listening in discipleship. Too often, leaders rush to “fix” problems rather than truly hearing the heart of the person in front of them - or what the Holy Spirit might be saying in the moment. The conversation explores:Why listening requires humility, presence, and discernmentThe danger of treating people as “projects” rather than unique children of GodHow giving away control creates space for spiritual and emotional maturityThe role of differentiation in healthy relationships and leadershipWhy agency is essential for true discipleship growthWhether you're leading in the church, discipling a friend, or simply navigating relationships, this episode will challenge you to slow down, listen deeply, and trust the Spirit's work in others.ORDER Jessie's newest book, Ordinary Discipleship: How God Wires Us for the Adventure of Transformation → https://a.co/d/51j86DGFor more great stuff, check out: Ordinary Discipleship by Whoology: https://whoology.coFollow us on social media:https://instagram.com/ordinarydiscipleshiphttps://facebook.com/ordinarydiscipleshipFollow Jessie on social media:Instagram: https://instagram.com/yourbrainbyjessFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/jessica.s.cruickshank/Twitter: https://twitter.com/yourbrainbyjess ORDER Jessie's newest book, Ordinary Discipleship: How God Wires Us for the Adventure of Transformation → https://a.co/d/51j86DGFor more great stuff, check out: Ordinary Discipleship by Whoology: https://whoology.coFollow us on social media:https://instagram.com/ordinarydiscipleshiphttps://facebook.com/ordinarydiscipleshipFollow Jessie on social media:Instagram: https://instagram.com/yourbrainbyjessFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/jessica.s.cruickshank/Twitter: https://twitter.com/yourbrainbyjessJessie Cruickshank is a disciple-maker, wilderness guide, and ordained minister. Karen Elliott House was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting for her coverage of the Middle East. Arguably, she knows more about the region, and Saudi Arabia in particular, than any other active journalist or author. For her latest book, Why Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Matters to the World, Karen conducted more than half a dozen in-depth interviews with the 40-year-old Saudi Crown Prince, known universally as “MBS.” For global business owners and executives, the dramatic Saudi transformation over the past decade, spearheaded by MBS, presents both promise and peril: vast opportunities for investment and growth but also political and legal risks that demand careful navigation. The pace of change under MBS has astonished even veteran observers like Karen, who has traveled to the kingdom more than 45 times since the late 1970s. Today, Saudi women can drive, hold jobs across industries, and participate openly in public life. Entertainment venues — from concerts to theme parks — are thriving. Restaurants that once erected wooden partitions to shield women from the public now bustle with mixed crowds. Karen compares his confidence and determination to that of Jack Welch at General Electric or Lee Kuan Yew, a founding father of modern Singapore. Like them, MBS is willing to make unpopular decisions in pursuit of national transformation. Whether his reforms endure, she cautions, depends on two factors: keeping the economy growing and avoiding foreign policy missteps that could unite his enemies. With a half-century potentially ahead of him as the next Saudi King, Mohammed bin Salman will be an unavoidable force in global politics and business. As Karen puts it, Americans must move beyond old stereotypes and reckon with the kingdom as it is — complex, evolving, and essential. What if the only thing standing between you and your true potential… is you?Rip welcomes Kori McClurg, author of the new book Get Out of Your Own Way. Kori's journey from self-loathing to self-love is one of courage, vulnerability, and the transformative power of plants.Like so many, Kori spent years battling the weight of diet culture, mental health struggles, and a body that reflected her inner turmoil. But through honesty, self-compassion, and a shift to a whole food plant-based diet, she discovered a new path — one that nourished both her body and her spirit. Here's what you'll take away from her story:Vulnerability is power — When we open up about our struggles, we create space for healing.Food is medicine — Shifting to a whole food plant-based lifestyle can dramatically improve health and vitality. It's not about willpower — Real change happens when we address the emotions behind our habits.Self-compassion changes everything — Treating ourselves with curiosity and kindness opens the door to growth.Start small, move with grace — Sustainable transformation comes from compassionate, incremental steps.Kori's story is a reminder that transformation doesn't start with a strict diet or sheer determination — it starts with love. When we get out of our own way, we create the freedom to thrive.Episode WebpageWatch the Episode on YouTubeUpcoming Events:Join us for our 2025 Plantstrong Retreat in Black Mountain, NC - Nov 9-14, 2025: https://plantstrong.com/pages/black-mountain-retreat Let Us Help Your PLANTSTRONG JourneyUse Code: KALE20 for $20 off Annual Subscription at https://home.mealplanner.plantstrong.com/ COMPLEMENT: Use code PLANTSTRONG for 30% off at https://lovecomplement.com/pages/plantstrong-special-offer Leave Us a Voicemail QuestionLeave us a voicemail: https://www.speakpipe.com/plantstrong Follow PLANTSTRONG and Rip Esselstynhttps://plantstrongfoods.com/ https://www.facebook.com/GoPlantstrong https://www.instagram.com/goplantstrong/https://www.instagram.com/ripesselstyn/ Follow the PLANTSTRONG Podcast and Give the Show a 5-star RatingApple PodcastsSpotify

On Monday's Mark Levin Show, WMAL's Larry O'Connor fills in for Mark. Charlie Kirk's assassination is a pivotal moment dividing American politics into pre- and post-Kirk eras, marking a transformation in the conservative movement. We need to channel our resolve into action: reclaim our status without apology, boost faith/family/life purpose, volunteer for campaigns, and mobilize votes in upcoming elections. Kirk's legacy demands conservatives fight unyieldingly for borders, taxes, manufacturing, and Western values—proving there's more of us than them. Also, the conservative movement responded with disciplined resolve: swiftly grasping the gravity of the event, mobilizing through social media, preparing for lawful pushback, and demanding accountability from Democrats and media figures who celebrated the killing or demonized conservatives as Nazis. This has rendered legacy media obsolete, empowered grassroots voices, and hardened MAGA's stance against calls for de-escalation, fostering a permanent shift toward assertive, peaceful resistance. Later, Kirk's assassination was political violence aimed at silencing free speech. Kirk was a fearless communicator who used radio to bypass gatekeepers and reach millions directly. Conservative talk radio—America's last truly free public square—will not be intimidated, will grow stronger amid threats, and will continue broadcasting truths about liberty, faith, and American exceptionalism.
