This week, Da7e and Neil take issue with the pacing and character decisions on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as season 2 approaches its midpoint. Then they continue The Godzilla Project RPG experience with several key pre-production decisions and dice rolls! In The Calm [04:36], they break down this week's episode and question whether Monarch is spinning its wheels too much. They also wonder how far the show will go in its criticisms of free market capitalism and when Godzilla might show up to the party. The in The Storm [53:46], your faithful hosts spool up a few theories about what will happen when storylines converge in Santa Soledad and what kind of connection certain characters have with Titan X.And finally, Session Three of The Godzilla Project [01:03:06] finishes the casting process for Neil's Godzilla: Awakening. He faces several pivotal dice rolls to determine the length and cost of production.Next week, coverage of Monarch continues with season 2, episode 5, "Furusato." This is a very special episode in that is constituted of a series of deep dives into several different subjects in which I have a rabid interest. Hopefully you do as well. If not, you're in for a long-ass listen. Unless you're new to the show, you know of my deep and abiding interest in all things David Lynch. So, it was a pleasant surprise when I learned of the book A Place Both Wonderful and Strange: The Extraordinary Untold History of Twin Peaks by Scott Meslow. Scott has written for such publications as GQ, New York and The Atlantic. And his book is far too in depth and accomplished to have been thrown together as a quickie cash-in following Mr. Lynch's passing. Quite, as it turns out, the contrary. Scott had pitched his book years before and was well into the writing of it at the time of his passing. And he talks about how the attitudes of his interview subjects changed from before and then after that event. And the book itself if great. You don't have to be a Twin Peaks nut to enjoy it, as it's also a story of how an idea becomes a show, what happens when that show, which was always greater than the sum of its parts becomes a cultural touchstone, etc. etc. etc., Scott Meslow, the author of A Place Both Wonderful and Strange: The Extraordinary Untold History of Twin Peaks is here. As of that weren't enough, Thom Shubilla, who has been here before to discuss his books Prime Time 1966 – 1967: The Study Of Television's First All Color Season, and James Bond And The Sixties Spy Craze. He is also one of the producers of the documentary Drew Friedman Vermeer Of The Borscht Belt, and has another in series of "I Know Dana Gould Will Buy It So That's One Sale Right There" books, King Kong Vs. Godzilla: The Most Colossal Conflict The Screen Has Ever Known. It's ostensibly about the making of the 1962 Toho Studios love letter to me known as King Kong Vs, Godzilla, but it's also just a fantastic story of show biz and deal making. It has everything: guys selling properties they think they have the rights to but don't, guys selling properties they know they don't have the rights to but selling them anyway, and yes… murder. True Tales From Weirdsville takes a deep dive into the life career and bizarre death of 1950's scream queen. She made some weird ass movies, Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman, Attack of The Giant Leeches, but what she did on screen could not compare to what happened in real life and that is a promise. The late, lovely and talented Yvette Vickers. For details and links to my upcoming appearances, please go to the live shows page at DanaGould.com. And now, it's on, to our filthy business.

Helen McCarthy has spent over forty years as one of the West's leading voices on manga and anime — and her new book The Manga Bible is her most ambitious attempt yet to bring that tradition to readers who've never cracked a volume. She joins Matthew to talk about what manga actually is, where it came from, and why it keeps mattering to generation after generation of readers.Matthew and Helen trace the full arc: Helen's origin story (a robot cartoon marathon on Spanish TV in 1981, a partner who'd just had his art-school brain exploded in Mallorca), the London import shops and rented VHS tapes from Japan that built an early UK fandom from scratch, and the wartime suppression that nearly wiped out the medium before Tezuka and others rebuilt it from memory. The conversation covers what manga gave women readers that American and British comics couldn't, why so many Western assumptions about manga history turned out to be wrong, and how Godzilla's origins as post-occupation allegory connects to manga's own post-war reinvention. The episode closes somewhere unexpected — protest songs, One Piece flags at South American demonstrations, and a shared conviction that pop culture's deepest superpower is its ability to carry a rebellion across every language barrier at once.More About Helen and Her BookThe Manga Bible by Helen McCarthy — available from helenmccarthy.net and independent bookstores via bookshop.orgA Brief History of Manga by Helen McCarthyConnect with Helen: helenmccarthy.netDiscussed on Other Superhero Ethics EpisodesGodzilla (1954)One Piece**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Today we're talking about one of the biggest icons in pop culture, Godzilla, and how the King of the Monsters is stomping his way through comics right now over at IDW. My guest is Jake Williams, the editor guiding the current and upcoming wave of Godzilla books. And if you've been paying attention, IDW has been building something really fun in the kaiju corner of the comics world. Bringing in a wide range of creators with very different storytelling styles to tackle the legendary monster. We'll talk about the current titles and what's coming next, including past work from creators like Tim Seeley, Van Jensen, Tom Scioli, and more, each bringing their own spin to the mythos. From wild monster battles to sci-fi world-building and some very unexpected takes on the Godzilla universe, there's a lot going on in these books. Jake also gives us a peek behind the curtain at how the line is being shaped, what it's like coordinating different creators in the Godzilla sandbox, and how IDW is planning the future of their kaiju comics.

Rating out of 10 Mary Shelly’s Bonnie and Clyde Possession Acid Trip Brian: 6.2/10 Darryl:5.1/10 Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (AppleTV) Apple TV+ Monsterverse series Season 2 premiered February 27, 2026 Episode 1: Cause and Effect Summary Season 2 opens with Monarch thrown into chaos by Keiko's return after being presumed dead for decades. At the same time, Cate goes against orders to try to save Shaw, and that rescue effort helps unleash a dangerous new Titan. Broadly, the episode works as a reset button for the season: it reconnects the fractured cast, throws everyone back into crisis mode, and pushes the story deeper into Skull Island and the larger Titan threat. Episode 2: Resonance Summary The second episode splits its tension between two fronts. Lee and Keiko investigate a secretive village tied to a cult-like devotion to a mysterious sea creature, while Cate runs into a deadly stowaway situation on the Monarch side of the story. Reviews and synopses describe the episode as expanding the threat beyond Skull Island, with a rogue Titan moving toward busy shipping lanes, so it feels less like setup and more like the season starting to flex its monster-muscle a bit. Returning cast includes Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, Anders Holm, and Takehiro Hira Did the season come back strong? Dave: The Amazing Spider-Man #23 (Taurin Clarke Cover) Or Maybe Alex: X-Men #26 (Gurihiru Marvel Monster Variant) Interview: Steve Orlando Deadweight (GUNGNIR Publishing) (with Bobby Lee & Matthew Medney) Deadweight sounds completely unhinged in the best way, blending martial arts chaos, horror, and absurdist comedy. When you're co-writing something that springs so directly from Bobby Lee's comedic voice, how do you balance honoring that raw unpredictability while still building a story with emotional stakes and structure? Valiant Beyond: X-O Manowar (out Feb 18) In Valiant Beyond: X-O Manowar, Aric joins the PunX after millennia of isolation, and suddenly honor is tied to community rather than conquest. How has it been carving out your own corner of the Valiant universe? Good Bones Good Bones gathers your horror work into a single anthology, and many of the stories explore queer identity through transformation, secrecy, and bodily autonomy. When you write horror rooted in identity, are you consciously using the genre as metaphor, or does that symbolism emerge naturally through character? Dragula (with Todd McFarlane) You co-judged Dragula alongside Todd McFarlane, which feels like a collision of comics horror and performance art. Did that experience teach you anything about spectacle and theatricality, or inspire you when you're comics work? DC AEW DC and AEW both thrive on spectacle, but they also rely heavily on character-driven drama and long-term storytelling. When writing DC x AEW #1, how did you balance the over-the-top, live-event energy with making sure the character pairings felt emotionally and thematically right, rather than just fun visual mashups? Scarlet Witch Can you talk about or tease the status of Wanda and Vision's relationship as of now? Agatha Harkness is your main antagonist in Sorcerer Supreme, what makes her fun to write? Agatha is the Vishanti's chosen sorcerer supreme, I was curious if you're drawing from any personal life experience having someone be picked over you when writing this story arc? Your run on Scarlet Witch has been released via miniseries, are there advantages (and disadvantages) to this format? Wanda Maximoff has worn a lot of labels over the years—Avenger, sorceress, reality shaper, occasional cosmic wildcard. How do you personally view her place in that ecosystem? Additional General Questions Your bibliography moves fluidly between superhero epics, indie horror, licensed work, and now chaotic comedy with Deadweight. How do you recalibrate your voice between projects without losing what makes a story feel unmistakably yours?
