GDP Script/ Top Stories for June 28th Publish Date: June 28th From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Friday, June 28th and Happy 49th Birthday to actor Toby Maguire. ***06.28.24 – BIRTHDAY – TOBEY MACGUIRE*** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Gwinnett KIA Mall of Georgia. Gwinnett police: People in moving van were not trafficking victims Ousted Gwinnett School Board Member Criticizes Runoff System Biden, Trump swap barbs in no-holds barred debate All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: MOG STORY 1: Gwinnett police: People in moving van were not trafficking victims A viral video on social media this week showed people inside a Budget Rental moving van, sparking concerns of human trafficking as the original poster claimed they were tied up. The incident occurred on Interstate 85 north from midtown Atlanta until Gwinnett police intervened. However, Gwinnett County Police Sergeant Collin Flynn clarified that the individuals were not trafficking victims but were two families relocating with their belongings. They were healthy and not in distress, heading from Alabama to Maryland for new job opportunities. Despite no evidence of trafficking, police cited the driver for Georgia's seat belt law violation as the occupants were riding in the van without seat belts. The group was safely dropped off to find an alternate means to continue their journey to Maryland. STORY 2: Ousted Gwinnett School Board Member Criticizes Runoff System Karen Watkins, Vice Chairman of the Gwinnett County school board, has decided not to seek a recount after narrowly losing to Rachel Stone in last week's runoff election. Stone won by 17 votes, securing less than a 0.5% margin over Watkins. Although Watkins could have requested a recount under state law, she opted not to, criticizing Georgia's runoff election system instead. Watkins highlighted concerns that requiring candidates to surpass 50% of the vote in a runoff can suppress voter turnout and dilute the impact of voters. In the primary election, Watkins led with 41.8% of the vote, leading to the runoff with Stone who garnered 30.6%. The runoff saw significantly lower turnout compared to the primary, with only 3,719 votes cast. Watkins' campaign labeled the runoff system as voter suppression, emphasizing its costliness and potential to diminish voter participation. STORY 3: Biden, Trump swap barbs in no-holds barred debate In Atlanta, a 90-minute presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, moderated by CNN with no live audience, aimed for civility with microphones turned off when not speaking. Despite this, both candidates traded accusations, blaming each other for inflation and trading personal attacks. Trump faced legal challenges, including indictments in Georgia and a recent New York conviction. He attributed these to Biden targeting him politically. Biden criticized Trump's inaction during the Capitol riot and highlighted Trump's legal troubles and personal scandals. Both called for the other's imprisonment, Trump for legal issues and Biden for immigration policies. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back. Break 2: TOM WAGES STORY 4: Lawrenceville names new dog park for former Police K-9 Lawrenceville has dedicated HYRO Park in memory of K9 Officer Hyro, who served the police department from 2016 until his passing in July 2023. The 0.41-acre urban dog park, set to open on August 9, honors Hyro's service in law enforcement, where he contributed to 233 missions, resulting in 87 arrests and the seizure of significant quantities of drugs. The park, under construction next to Lawrenceville Lawn, aims to unite the community through dog-friendly activities. City officials, including Hyro's handler Officer Sean O'Brien, unveiled a plaque during the dedication ceremony, emphasizing Hyro's legacy of "Love Loyalty Obedience." Here's An Update Hospitals in Gwinnett County are expanding their services with new facilities, including Northside Hospital's 100,000-square-foot medical office building in Buford, set to open this summer. Additionally, construction on a 15-story tower at Northside Gwinnett in Lawrenceville is underway, expected to add over 300 patient beds and make it the largest campus in the hospital system by 2025. Another Northside medical office building is planned on Sugarloaf Parkway. Northeast Georgia Health System is also expanding its Braselton hospital campus with a $565 million project, adding 150 licensed acute care beds and doubling the number of treatment rooms in the Emergency Department. The expansion is scheduled to open in phases, with the first phase expected in summer 2025 and the second phase in 2026. STORY 2: Northeast Gwinnett Residents Face Big Decision On Area's Future In Cityhood Vote. An Update The proposed cityhood of Mulberry in Gwinnett County is headed to a referendum vote after Governor Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 333 into law. If approved, Mulberry would become Gwinnett County's 17th city, encompassing approximately 41,000 residents and becoming the county's largest city by geographic size and the second-largest by population. Proponents, including House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration, highlight the opportunity for local control over planning and zoning decisions without imposing a city property tax. However, opponents express concerns about potential financial implications for Gwinnett County, with projections indicating an annual loss of $9.1 million in revenue. The referendum will appear on ballots in May, marking a significant decision for Gwinnett County residents. STORY 6: Long COVID Linked to Inflammatory Protein, Study Finds Cambridge University researchers have found a potential link between Long COVID and high levels of the inflammatory protein interferon gamma. The groundbreaking study suggests that IFN-γ could serve as a biomarker for Long COVID fatigue, paving the way for improved diagnosis and treatment. The comprehensive study followed Long COVID patients for over two years. It discovered a persistent production of IFN-γ correlating with ongoing symptoms. This research is significant given the skepticism surrounding Long COVID, despite an estimated 1.9 million people in the UK suffering from it. The research identifies specific immune cells that produce IFN-γ and observes a decrease in symptoms as IFN-γ levels drop. While vaccinations may help clear the virus, effective therapies remain a necessity. The study also suggests that IFN-γ could help classify Long COVID subtypes, leading to more personalized treatments. Gaining a deeper understanding of Long COVID could equip us with vital knowledge for future pandemics. STORY 7: New Study: 4 in 10 Americans Know Someone Who Died of Drug Overdose A staggering four out of ten Americans know someone who has died from a drug overdose. This alarming statistic comes from a recent study by non-profit organization RAND. The research found that 42.4% of participants knew at least one person who had overdosed, translating to an estimated 125 million American adults. Furthermore, one in three respondents stated that their lives were disrupted by the death. "The experiences and needs of millions of survivors of an overdose loss largely have been overlooked," said Dr. Alison Athey, a behavioral scientist at RAND. The study also revealed that exposure to overdose deaths was more common among women, married individuals, U.S.-born participants, and urban dwellers. Disturbingly, 13% of respondents reported significant life disruption due to an overdose death. In 2022, over 109,000 people died from a drug overdose, bringing the total since 2000 to more than 1.1 million. We'll have final thoughts after this. GDP Script/ Top Stories for Nov 17th Publish Date: Nov 16th HENSSLER 15 From the Henssler Financial Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Friday, November 17th and Happy Birthday to Tom Seaver I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Kia Mall of Georgia. Health Department Issues Warning of Possible Hepatitis Exposure at Lawrenceville Restaurant Respiratory virus outlook in Georgia encouraging Bulls, Bands and Barrels — a fusion of rodeo and country music — coming to Gwinnett's Gas South Arena All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: MOG – PEGGY SLAPPY STORY 1: Health Department Issues Warning of Possible Hepatitis Exposure at Lawrenceville Restaurant The Gwinnett County health department issued a warning about potential hepatitis A exposure at Lolita's Bar and Grill in Lawrenceville. A server at the restaurant was diagnosed with hepatitis A, and customers who ate there from Oct. 24 to Nov. 7 are advised to contact healthcare providers or the Gwinnett County Health Department for hepatitis A vaccine recommendations. The vaccine is available at the health department with no out-of-pocket cost. Hepatitis A is a contagious viral infection with symptoms like nausea, tiredness, stomach pain, and jaundice. The virus spreads through contaminated objects, food, or drinks, often due to inadequate handwashing. STORY 2: Respiratory virus outlook in Georgia encouraging State Epidemiologist Dr. Cherie Drenzek reported declining COVID-19 cases as Georgia enters the respiratory virus season, with RSV and flu expected to return to pre-pandemic levels. While COVID-19, RSV, and flu trends show improvement, Drenzek emphasized the combined threat, urging caution. Although deaths and hospitalizations from COVID are at their lowest since the pandemic's start, circulating variants pose a wildcard. While positive RSV tests dropped from 21% to 10%, hospitalizations for infants and young children are a concern. Flu cases are rising but represent only 4% of outpatient doctor visits, mainly affecting children aged 0-4. STORY 3: Bulls, Bands and Barrels — a fusion of rodeo and country music — coming to Gwinnett's Gas South Arena Gwinnett's Gas South Arena will host Bulls, Bands, and Barrels (BBB), a unique event merging rodeo, music, and entertainment, on January 27, marking the start of BBB's inaugural national tour. The 21-city tour features elite bull riders, cowgirls navigating barrels, and freestyle bullfighting. The show also includes performances by country music artists such as Warren Zeiders, Sam Barber, and Alexandra Kay. BBB President Hunter Price sees the tour as a game-changer, expanding the venture to a national scale with Peachtree Entertainment and Premier Productions. Tickets for the Gas South Arena show go on sale to the public on Friday at 10 a.m. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back Break 2: GLOW LIGHT SHOW– TOM WAGES – DTL STORY 4: Norcross-based Willis Mechanical honored with HIRE Vets Medallion Award Norcross-based Willis Mechanical Inc. received the HIRE Vets Medallion Award from the U.S. Department of Labor in the Platinum Level division for its commitment to recruiting, employing, and retaining military veterans. This marks the fourth time the HVAC and refrigeration services company has received the award. With about 50 employees, a quarter to a third of whom are veterans, Willis Mechanical emphasizes supporting veterans in their transition to civilian work. The HIRE Vets Medallion Award recognizes companies that demonstrate dedication to hiring and retaining veterans, acknowledging the valuable contributions veterans make in the workplace. The award highlights Willis Mechanical's ongoing commitment to hiring veterans. STORY 5: LAKO: Understanding the impact of coupon rates and yield to maturity Many investors are concerned about low bond yields, holding bonds at 3.25% while new bonds yield around 4.60%. The confusion often arises between a bond's coupon rate and yield to maturity. The coupon rate is fixed, representing annual interest payments, while yield to maturity varies based on factors like time and bond price. Investors should consider yield to maturity when buying bonds at a price not equal to par value. Selling existing bonds to chase higher yields may lead to losses due to declining prices. The focus should be on protecting principal and fulfilling spending needs upon maturity, considering factors like current yields and maturity dates. We'll be back in a moment Break 3: JACKSON EMC - ESOG - INGLES 4 STORY 6: Police Upgrade Charges Against Suspect in Lawrenceville Double Shooting Terrance Alonzo Washington, accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend and her son in a domestic incident, is now facing murder charges as the son, Daqwayvious Kleckley, succumbed to his injuries. The shooting occurred in unincorporated Lawrenceville on Nov. 7. Washington initially faced charges like aggravated assault and firearm possession. With Daqwayvious Kleckley's death, Washington is additionally charged with felony murder and malice murder. The police responded to a domestic dispute report, discovering the victims in the driveway, and Washington was later apprehended in Warner Robins. The mother, Deyawnday Kleckley, is still undergoing treatment for her wounds. STORY 7: Appellate court to hear arguments over Trump's rhetoric in federal trial on 2020 election Former President Donald Trump's appeal to lift a partial gag order in the criminal case accusing him of crimes related to overturning the 2020 election will be heard in a Washington, D.C., appeals court. Trump, seeking to speak freely about the case during his reelection bid, faces restrictions after making statements about witnesses and prosecutors that could incite violence. The appeal challenges the order by District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, arguing it infringes on Trump's free speech rights. Legal experts note the case's unique challenges due to Trump's significant social media presence and political influence. The appeal hearing will address the core issues of free speech and the court's duty to control proceedings. We'll have final thoughts after this. He then fled into the woods but was apprehended by police within an hour with the help of a police K-9. Ross died at the scene of the shooting. During the sentencing, the victim's family members spoke about the impact of losing her, with her 14-year-old daughter saying, "I won't ever get my mom back and it hurts." Atlanta's Chick-fil-A is planning a $1 billion expansion to open restaurants in Asia and Europe, with a goal to have a presence in five international markets by 2030. Despite being the third-largest fast-food chain in the US, with more than 2,700 restaurants, only a few of these are overseas. The move is aimed at testing how Chick-fil-A will perform in international markets to learn and innovate, according to CEO Andrew Cathy. Chick-fil-A has previously launched an expansion in South Africa that lasted five years, and in 2019 it opened but soon closed a London-area restaurant due to protests about anti-gay marriage statements made by Chick-Fil-A's former CEO. Gwinnett Technical College has experienced a surge in enrollment for the third consecutive semester, with a nearly 10% increase in enrollment numbers for the 2023 spring semester compared to last year. Gwinnett Tech's President, Glen Cannon, credits the increase to the opening of the new Emerging Technologies building and the renovation of other buildings, the Dual Enrollment programs for high school students, and the expansion of academic programs to feed high-demand careers. The enrollment growth indicates that Gwinnett Tech provides the skills needed in today's competitive job market and is on a growth trajectory for the future. Gwinnett County residents can now get an overdose-reversing kit for free from local health officials in case they are worried that they, or someone they care about, might be in danger from opioid use. GNR Public Health announced on Friday that it is making the Narcan kits available to anyone over 18 in its three-county footprint. Narcan is a substance that can be used on someone, who is suffering from an overdose, to save their life. Narcan has been available for a few years to law enforcement officers to carry with them in case they encounter someone who is experiencing an overdose, but there has been a push in recent years to get it into the hands of community members as well in an effort to reduce opioid use related deaths. Each kit that GNR Public Health is providing to community members includes two naloxone doses as well as a pouch to carry them in, a CPR face shield and information about how to administer the doses as well as the medical amnesty law, recovery and treatment options. The kits are available at the Lawrenceville Health Center, located at 455 Grayson Highway Suite 300, and the Norcross Health Center, which is located at 5030 Georgia Belle Court. Health officials said their staff is trained to teach people how to properly administer Narcan, and they will review the instructions with each person who picks up a kit. A federal judge sentenced a Buford man to six years in prison on Friday for his role in a Ponzi scheme involving cattle trading. Buford resident Ron Throgmartin , and Galesburg, Illinois resident Reva Joyce Stachniw were convicted last August on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, five counts of wire fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. Stachniw was sentenced to six years in prison as well on Friday. The U.S. Department of Justice said Throgmartin and Stachniw, as well as another co-conspirator, were accused in court documents of “fraudulently representing to victims that their investments were backed by short-term investments in Stachniw and Throgmartin's cattle and marijuana businesses.” Victims gave them money under the assumption that it would go where they had been told it would go, but the dollars instead went to paying back earlier investors, according to prosecutors. The Department of Justice said victims lost millions of dollars as a result. In addition to their jail time, Throgmartin and Stachniw were also ordered by a federal judge to each pay nearly $14.6 million in restitution. Throgmartin must forfeit just over $1 million, while Stachniw must forfeit just over $6 million, as well. As visitors walk to county offices at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center his month, they are greeted with images of Black people engaging in every day life. There is a group of Black women enjoying a Sunday tea together in one painting by Gwinnett-based artist Shoghi Lombard. Another painting by Lombard shows three black women in white dresses lifting their arms to the heavens as they offer praise to God. Sitting next to image of the praying women is another Lombard painting of three different Black women who are also wearing in white dresses, but this group is in a field together. Across the aisle, there is a painting by a Gwinnett County Public Schools student of a Black couple relaxing as they lay next to each other in a field of grass together. A young Black man is shown in profile in a portrait, by another GCPS student, that is nestled among paintings by other students. The paintings are part of Gwinnett County government's annual Black History Month display, which is devoted this year to highlighting locally produced Black art. Gwinnettians who cannot make it during the day to see the display will have a chance to see it at night this week. County officials will commemorate Black History Month with a Heritage Night Celebration on tonight night at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, which is located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville. The event will begin with food and socializing at 6:30 p.m., with the celebration itself beginning at 7 p.m. The Berean Christian Church Choir and representatives from GCPS will perform and poet laureate Hank Stewart will speak as well. The Black History Month display is part of the build up to the event, and it gives people who cannot attend the celebration a way to reflect on Gwinnett's Black community, and its history, at any time during February. The display will remain up at GJAC until March 1. In most of the Georgia High School Association's classifications, the team point total put forth by Buford and Mill Creek would've been good enough to win the state title at the 2023 traditional wrestling tournament. Unfortunately for the Wolves and Hawks, they happen to reside in Class AAAAAAA, domain to Camden County, which claimed its seventh straight team title in the state's largest classification and ninth straight overall Saturday at the Macon Centreplex. The Wildcats piled up 233 team points with state placers in all 14 weight classes, including three state champions, to edge the Wolves, which finished as runner up with 219 points behind 11 state placers and two state champions — Drew Gorman, who pinned Parkview's to win the individual title at 136 pounds, and Gavin Pope, who outpointed North Paulding's Josh Denson for a 5-4 decision to win the title at 144. Meanwhile, Mill Creek's total of 158.5 – paced by state champions Antonio Mills (46-1) at 113, Blue Stiffler at 126, Amantee Mills at 132 and Dominic Bambinelli at 165 and three other state placers – was good enough for third place, the highest placing for the Hawks. Despite coming up just short of the team title with such a strong showing, Buford coach Tom Beuglas has no complaints about the result, or with the way his Wolves wrestled this weekend. Mill Creek coach Nathan White expressed similar sentiments about his team's historic finish, which continues a strong set of showings on the state level that started last season. . Two Tuesday Morning stores in Gwinnett County, located in Buford and Snellville, are among the 12 Georgia stores that the home decor retailer plans to close soon as it goes through bankruptcy proceedings. The news of the stores slated for closure comes on the heels of Tuesday Morning's bankruptcy filing on Tuesday. The chain plans to close about 264 of its 464 stores as part of a restructuring, claiming the stores slated to be shut down are in “unprofitable locations,” according to bankruptcy documents. The Mall of Georgia store Boulevard in Buford and the Presidential Commons store in Snellville are among the stores slated to close. Tuesday Morning officials have not announced specific closing dates for either location, but going out of business sales have already begun, according to the chain's website. It's no secret that with the many diversions — both worth and unworthy — available to young people, reading for pleasure is often not a priority. But if an appreciation for the printed word starts early, there's a greater chance that children will embrace reading as they grow. To that end, Disney On Ice and Monster Jam have collaborated with public libraries in the Atlanta area to encourage young readers to take part in an initiative that will entitle them to free tickets (with the purchase of an adult ticket) to either “Disney On Ice presents Find Your Hero” or Monster Jam, both of which will make Atlanta-area appearances in April. Children — ages 2 to 12 — are urged to visit their local public libraries in Gwinnett, Henry and Barrow counties to collect a reward club card, which will detail the steps to earn a free ticket. Once five or more books have been read, the child and their parent or guardian can redeem the reward club card for a free ticket. Libraries participating in the “Disney On Ice presents Find Your Hero” offer include the 16 branches of the Gwinnett Public Library, the five branches of the Henry County Library System, the Auburn Pubic Library and the Winder Public Library, among others. Libraries participating in the Monster Jam offer include the Auburn Public Library, the Henry County Library System and the Winder Public Library. “Disney On Ice presents Find Your Hero” is scheduled to visit the Gas South Arena in Dultuh from April 20-23. Free tickets can be redeemed for performances at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, at 11 a.m. or 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 and at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 23. Andy Maughon may have retired from nearly five decades of fixing automobiles, but he's planning to stay more than active. Maughon, who for the past 27 years has owned and operated Andy's Muffler & Lube on Scenic Highway in Snellville, closed the business on January 31, selling the property where his shop was located. He said he may find a part-time job to “keep from going insane,” and that he is a hunter and fisher, and that he and his wife do enjoy horseback riding. When asked why he decided to retire now, Maughon said, “It's time. I'm tired and I can't get any help, so it's just time. I've got two (employees) working for me now and I used to have eight.” It's likely that the Monroe native, who now lives in the Oglethorpe County town of Arnoldsville, will also continue his hobby of racing. When he opened his shop in 1995, Maughon and his wife were featured in the Gwinnett Daily Post for their racing prowess. When the COVID pandemic kept families close to home, Loganville resident Michael A. Carson and his son Matthew decided to team up on a writing project that resulted in the publication of two books — one about the origins of Black History Month and the other about notable African-American jazz figures through history. Although the Carsons are no longer stuck inside, their collaboration continued with a new book, “Unsung African-American History Makers: Unknown Hidden Figures And Their Stories,” which was released on New Year's Day. Carson said that it was his son — who just celebrated his 13th birthday — who came up with the idea for their latest book. Although the father-son team has thus far proven quite prolific, Carson said they don't have a firm idea on their next book — or if there will be a next book. Their process is usually started when they hear of something that they both think might make a good book. As of now, they don't have anything currently in mind. Carson also said the best part of this whole process is the familial connection that he and his son have made. Students from South Gwinnett High School brought home a national championship in late January after winning the SuitUp Capgemini business competition. The competition took place in four cities — New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago and Atlanta — with the winning team from each region advancing to compete nationally. South Gwinnett represented the Atlanta market. The teams participating in the competition hosted by SuitUp (an educational nonprofit that seeks to increase career readiness for young people through business plan competitions) assumed the role of CEO for Capgemini, designing the prototype for a teen-friendly app focused on financial literacy. Each student was recognized with a certificate and a cash prize. A dozen families were displaced by a fire at a Norcross-area apartment complex on Tuesday. Gwinnett County firefighters were called to the Terra at Norcross Apartments complex, at 10:12 a.m., on a report that smoke was coming from a water heater closet. A plumber later told fire officials that he had noticed smoke in a water heater closet while he was working on pipes in the closet and used pull stations to make occupants aware of the fire. Crews arrived three minutes after they were called and found a two-story, multi-unit building on fire and deployed four hose lines to battle the flames. They also used two hydrants which were located in the apartment complex. The cause of the fire is still being investigated by fire department officials. One adult male did sustain a minor injury during the fire, but he was treated by medical crews and released at the scene. Twelve families were displaced by the fire and the complex's management is working with them to get them a place to stay while repairs are made. The Knight History Essay Contest, established by the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in honor of George S. and Stella M. Knight, is designed to provide high school students an opportunity to probe the major events of American history. Bolstered by research conducted by the student-writer, essays — ranging in word county from 800 to 1,200 — must be original with topics based on an event, person, philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence or the framing of the U.S. Constitution. Students from the ninth through 12th grade submit their essays at the chapter and state levels to be considered for the national contest. Macayla Hutsler, a home-schooled 11th grade student from Gwinnett, is the recipient of the Lawrenceville-based Button Gwinnett Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution's essay contest award for 2022-23. Hutsler also won the state award, which was presented in late January at the Georgia Society, Sons of the American Revolution in Duluth. Hutsler's essay was entitled “Caesar Rodney: A Patriot Worth Remembering.” One of America's founding fathers, Rodney, who was born and died in Delaware, provided the tiebreaking vote that made the Declaration of Independence unanimous after Pennsylvania and South Carolina also voted for independence. There can be little argument that the COVID pandemic of the last few years forced a lot of folks to become more acquainted with their own homes, where they found themselves spending more and more time. It is for that reason that the home renovation and design industries stayed healthy while many other businesses struggled. With that in mind — and with spring right around the corner — could there be a better time for the 25th annual North Atlanta Home Show? Set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Gas South Convention Center in Duluth, the North Atlanta Home Show will bring more than 160 exhibitors to the area for a comprehensive collection of products, services, displays and experts that covers just about everything related to home improvement. Levine added that with the expansion of the convention center now complete, there will be even more opportunities for patrons to be dazzled by the array of options. Last year's home show attracted some 7,000 visitors and Levine said he can see even more attendees this time around. The home show is produced by Marketplace Events, North America's largest presenter of home, garden, holiday and bridal shows. Levine said just every show produced thus far in 2023 — including Oklahoma City, Dallas, Washington, Kansas City, Austin, Salt Lake City and several Canadian cities — has seen an uptick in visitors.
