In this powerful and heartfelt conversation, Dr. Taniqua Miller sits down with Dixie Lincoln-Nichols, co-founder of Life in the Pause, a community and movement centered around empowering Black women through their menopause journey. Dixie shares how her own experience with perimenopause—marked by confusion, lack of information, and dismissive healthcare—sparked her mission to build something radically different. What started as casual Wednesday conversations with her business partner turned into a thriving intergenerational community, a festival, and a movement that centers care, connection, and visibility.Together, they explore:The silent struggle of perimenopause and why awareness matters.Finding wisdom through peer support and lived experiences. The importance of saying goodbye to doctors who no longer serve you in midlife. Why midlife is a sacred season for intuition, reinvention, and deep self-trust.The birth of Life in the Pause and how it fills the gaps left by mainstream menopause narratives.Centering Black women's voices, honoring our elders, and making room for younger folks in the conversation. The critical health implications of menopause for Black women—and why ignoring it isn't an option.Whether you're in the thick of the transition or just starting to ask questions, this episode reminds you that you're not alone—and that thriving (with sass and style) is not only possible, it's your birthright.

Qiana Thomason has dedicated her career to the improvement of health and wellbeing across the region. As the CEO of Health Forward, she focuses on communities over-represented in health injustice and those living in marginalized conditions. While Qiana has an impressive career repertoire, it's her health journey that is the highlight of her story. After years of suffering from intense skin issues, self-isolation, and joint and gut pain, Qiana found the answer. It took stepping away from conventional medicine and discovering the root cause of her symptoms through a functional approach. The problem? An overgrowth of Candida albicans in her gut created an autoimmune response in the rest of her body. Through listening to her body, building relationships with her healthcare providers, and relentlessly pursuing wellbeing Qiana was able to find healing. Memorable Quotes: “There's the food you get through what you eat, and the food you put on your body, and the food you put in your mind and your soul.” “I've always eaten healthy, I eat well. She goes, according to whom? That's when it clicked. My body is the source of truth.” “Slow down, check on your people, and check-in with yourself.” “God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved.” Psalm 46:5 “Keep your head above the crowd.” What You'll Learn: Why you should listen to your body to pursue optimal health & the importance of food and relationships to that journey.  This Episode Includes: Well-being is critical to our ability to create connections with others. Well-being starts by listening to your own body first. A nutritarian is someone who focuses on nutrition and how your personal body experiences it. The difference between conventional food advice and a functional medicine perspective. Menopause brain is real, and it's more than just the occasional forgetfulness or brain fog. In this episode, I had the honor of interviewing again the brilliant Dr. Lisa Mosconi, a world-renowned Neuroscientist, to uncover the intricate changes in brain health during menopause. Dr. Lisa, often called “The Mona Lisa of Neuroscience,” delves deep into how hormonal shifts impact our neurological well-being. Learn why hormone therapy could be essential and discover groundbreaking research that could change how we approach this critical life stage. Dr. Lisa and I discussed menopause as a time of renewal rather than a period of decline. She shares profound insights on how estrogen and progesterone influence brain health and the surprising connections between hot flashes, cardiovascular, and neurological health. This episode redefines menopause as a vital stage of life, highlighting opportunities for growth and empowerment. Listen in to understand the powerful role of hormones and how they shape our experiences during menopause. Are you ready to reclaim your vitality and intimate wellness? [00:10:30] Menopause and brain health. [00:12:28] Neurological impact of menopause. [00:18:51] Estrogen activity in the brain. [00:23:17] Neuroplasticity and estrogen receptors. [00:41:30] Neurocognitive changes during puberty. [00:47:39] Redefining menopause. [00:50:18] Positive perspectives on aging.  [00:56:18] Neurosteroids in the brain. Memorable Quotes:  "There's no such vocabulary or range for menopause. We just assume it's the same for everyone. Whereas it's very similar. Some women, a few women are almost suicidal during menopause. Some women develop rage. Some women just cry and they're effectively depressed, they're hormonally depressed. And there's just no recognition of this and there's no support system in place, which I find extremely upsetting." [00:17:19] – Dr. Lisa Mosconi   "Hot flashes are not just a quality of life issue. For many years, that was the notion that you have a hot flash, you just grin and bear it, and eventually it'll go away. And now there's an understanding that a hot flash is not just heat, it's a neurological reaction that impacts multiple systems, multiple biological and neurophysiological systems, then need to be taken quite seriously because it may be a sign of a disruption in the cardiovascular system and potentially the neurological system." And sleeping pills, by and large, don't work regularly for the long term.”   “The trouble falling asleep issue is clearly something that looks more psychological. And in many cases, especially in younger people, it is more psychological.”   BIO: Barry Krakow, MD is a board certified sleep medicine specialist practicing in Savannah, Georgia following a 30 year career conducting research and treating mental health patients with sleep disorders. He developed and pioneered several advanced methods for the treatment of insomnia, nightmares, and sleep apnea, published these findings in top scientific journals, and proved conclusively the necessity to diligently address (without medication) sleep complaints in those suffering anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more. A shift in perspective usually gives you more space to receive new energy. That shift can include letting go of what used to work for you. This episode talks about where we can let go and let it flow. I can't believe this podcast is over three years old. Each and every year around the New Year, I talk about my consistent practice of choosing a Word for the Year. I've had a Word for the Year since 2010, and it's served me to use “my word” as a guidepost to stay aligned in my choices and actions. This year is a little different. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP171's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. A Word for the Year helped to ground and center me, but this year I haven't come up with a word yet. I'm exploring if I'd like to let go of the tradition this year or if I should continue by letting it organically present itself and see what happens. On our Wise Walk, I talk about where we can let go of the things we've always done and see what flows as a result. Our expectations influence our traditions, and we can review whether or not they still feel aligned. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Do you ever feel like you're forcing something in your life whether it's a hobby or longtime commitment? Do you give yourself permission to let it go if it no longer feels aligned? Do you give yourself a chance to reconsider possibilities and choose again? Flow is the idea of being fully aligned with ourselves, being fully present, and then allowing the Universe to flow what is for our highest good into our life. Consider all the good that may visit you if you allow for more fluid space in your life. Invite flow with these Wise Walk questions: Are you so focused on keeping a consistent practice that you might try and force it anyway? How does forcing it feel compared to letting it go? Where can we carve out free or unscheduled time to allow flow? What can we let go of in our schedule? How can we embrace the idea of flow in our life? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! There's nothing wrong with admitting you're not feeling your best. Life doesn't require you to be everything to everybody all the time. This episode talks about accepting where you are in each moment. I'm managing health challenges lately and feeling better. During this journey, I felt like crap from time to time, but this path taught me a lot about my changing needs and availability. The ups and downs gave me the opportunity to accept where I am in each moment. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP138's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. Accepting where you are means that you communicate your needs and priorities with those who are around you. Starting to embrace where you are also means you learn to be present whether you're by yourself or loved ones. Your needs change, the moment you acknowledge a change is a step towards honoring your priorities. On our Wise Walk, I talk about accepting where you are so that you can take care of yourself. Honestly, I'm witnessing my own evolution as I navigate the medical issues and release expectations. You can offer yourself the same grace as you continue your True Stride. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life can you apply the lesson of accepting where you are, from moment to moment?  What are you filling your calendar with and are those activities bringing you joy? Do you have opportunities to give yourself grace and release expectations? How are you honoring yourself in this moment so your future self can be even stronger? Doesn't it feel great to get in touch with your best self? When you pay attention to self care, you're more likely to have other opportunities to embody the best version of yourself. If you don't pay attention, you stay out of alignment longer than needed. Give yourself permission to honor yourself and your condition in this moment so your future self can be even stronger and freer. Take care of yourself with these Wise Walk questions: Are there opportunities to release self-limiting beliefs? Can you be more vulnerable to receive support? If you have plans coming up, are they aligned with your #1 priority? Are you honoring your priorities with healthy boundaries? In what ways are you taking care of yourself in each moment? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! Think back to when your little one was an infant. Do you remember when he or she first wrapped their little hand around your finger or when that startle reflex was so strong that they would even wake themselves up if they weren't wrapped tight? Both of these things are primitive reflexes.  In this episode of the Soaring Child, Lorraine Driscoll explains how retained primitive reflexes and brain imbalances can affect children with ADHD. Discover the three most common retained reflexes that children with ADHD often have, as well as how parents can integrate brain training technologies and techniques to help build better brains.  Lorraine Driscoll is a brain integration therapist, nutritionist, and the founder of Building Better Brains. As a former teacher, she's passionate about optimally developing the brain so kids can thrive.   Key Takeaways:  [2:48] How Lorraine got into this work [5:27] Retained primitive reflexes [7:54] Brain imbalances [8:14] Potential causes of retained reflexes or brain imbalances [12:03] 3 common retained reflexes that children with ADHD have [16:15] The role that brain imbalance plays with ADHD [20:46] Where to start [24:03] Brain training technologies that can be helpful for kids with ADHD [28:48] How this is different than neurofeedback [29:56] How brain imbalances & retained reflexes affect picky eating [31:59] What parents can do TODAY to start building better brain connections   Memorable Quotes "There are a ton of reflexes that infants have, and their purpose is #1  to keep them alive...and then further on in infancy, to assist with gross and fine motor development." "These reflexes definitely serve a purpose but they should disappear by 3 years of age or sooner, depending on the reflex. And if they don't, basically they create a block." "With primitive reflexes, they can either be mildly retained or severely retained. And generally, the more reflexes that are retained and the more severely retained, the more severe the condition." "Most kids who have true ADHD or even autism spectrum typically have an overdeveloped left brain and an underdeveloped right brain." "The left brain is the gas, and the right brain is the brakes." Start "with very specific exercises that very much mimic...the movements they would have done when they were an infant in order for that reflex to be integrated." "The research shows it's best when it's done morning and afternoon or evening." "If you do nothing else, the best thing you can do is get your child moving." Some people find rock bottom, while Kevin found out that rock bottom had a basement. That's something that can be difficult to showcase through the stories that are meant to be shared, because what does our judge tell us? As the failures take place within each of our lives, we discover bricks to build with that will allow us to build something of great impact and influence, but we have to dig through the mess to find our bricks. Part of the mess is the development of your message to be shared with others, but this starts with the internal work and being mindful of being self-aware. Patrick and I had the pleasure of having a powerful conversation with Kevin Palmieri and providing nuggets that other can take away and start putting into practice to move towards the next level up.In this episode, Patrick, Scott, and Kevin speak on:• Looking into the mirror and asking the tough questions.•The need to change environments.•Permission given and borrowed belief.•Pouring into others.•The value of the human experience.Memorable Quotes“There are 10 televisions on in my head at the same time & every single one is on a different station.""If you don't believe something is possible, you will not take action. Cara grew up in the GTA of Canada, with a mother who really looked out for her well being. She was almost “overprotective”, but a game changer in her life when it came to helping her believe in her dreams and goals.Speaking of those goals, she is a successful actor and this started when another role model became a big influence in her life. She had a teacher see something special in her ability to act and helped her get started. We touched on some heartfelt topics about being able to integrate as creatives and some of the history of racism in the culture of creating content, such as Shakespeare. It was so fun to think that the real goal should be to come together to share creative experiences.Lifelong Learning As A CreativeCara is an intelligent and curious creative. Most importantly she loves to learn. She has a skillset beyond acting, as she also creates in spatial computing, music, NFTS and social media content. We often get in our own way when it comes to being an artist because we try to stay in our own lane. She shares a very healthy mindset when it comes to this because she never stopped learning new ways to be creative.Cara shared what it's like to have fans, and a reputation as an actor. She also broke down the difference between video game, theatre and acting on camera. If you are someone with an interest in acting, then her tips will definitely be both entertaining and helpful.15 Things We Learned About ActingDefinitely the number one tip is practice a lot. Just keep practicing in whatever way, or combination of methods that you like.As an actor you are running a business. If you are going to be successful, you are selling yourself and selling your art. There are fewer and fewer gatekeepers, so don't wait for permission to create. If you don't have a current project, you can film something yourself, or with a group, that could become a feature, but no matter what will allow you to practice.Never stop improving. Acting is different than writing, or painting. You can't create start to finish on your own and sell your product. As an actor, this will sound bad, but it's a reality. You are a tool, to be used as a part of a bigger project. Remembering to be a tool that people want to use more and more will help you stay humble and achieve more opportunities. Networking is often underrated. The ability to be on people's radar when they are casting, or putting together a project is valuable. It also helps that all stakeholders enjoy working with you. The more enjoyable you are to work with, as long as your art is good, the more work you'll have.Build a community, or group of like minded, similar level creators to grow together with. Mentor, ask questions, solve problems and bounce ideas off of each other.Read scripts if you are serious about acting. This will help you learn to read what is trying to be conveyed in the writing. You will feel more comfortable connecting lines to the story, as well as memorization and comparing projects in general.Theatre is supposed to be a moment that you create, and then it's gone. Theatre is awesome because you can feel energy while creating in a theatre, and a live audience lends itself to all kinds of actual reactions of 100's of people in the same moment, like gasping, or crying. You don't get that in film. In any live acting scenario, such as theatre, you can not fake knowing how to act. You have to know your lines, or be solid at improv, you have to know how to position yourself, and use your voice effectively. But, all of these things can be manipulated and supported when making a movie. In film, that's different than theatre however, you will move people and have an impact, but they will experience that more privately, on any timeline, and then you may, or may not hear about it. They might reach out to say thank you about a project you shot seven years ago that they just watched. In movie making, if you have a strong story, director, director of photography, cinematographer and editor, then you don't need good acting to create a powerful scene. This is why you can add a celebrity, or model to a movie, even if they have little experience and skills, and the shot will be fine. That is not the case with theatre.Sometimes a trained actor may over act, in which case it may be better to fill the role with a non-actor, just anyone random, but at the same time this can be a valuable lesson for seasoned actors to not try too hard to make something specific happen. Just know your objective and be more real.As a video game actor, it is unique as well because people feel they get to know you on a far deeper level, if they are playing you, or competing against you in a game, and so they form strong emotional connections and opinions. Some people hate you and some people love you.Books, resources, coaching, courses, it all can help. You don't need it, but if you are serious about your craft, it could definitely help.Give your script, or lines a scaffold for you to anchor to. This is especially important in theatre when you need to be able to recreate a character, or a scene for eighty days in a row. But, it goes for all acting. Don't just try and remember words, remember the real objective of each moment in ways that you personally connect with.Memorable Quotes“There are never any real answers. There are answers that will work for a period of time, there are ones that make sense for a bit. But, there are no right answers.”“Don't wait, network. Create with others. If you want to make movies, if you want to make plays, or you want to write a story, get a group together and create.”“You can't successfully produce unless you have a community to do that with.”“It's your privilege that allows you to not see the race.”“We all are human. We're just having our own interesting journeys.”Guest BioCara is an award winning actress, artist, director and producer. She has been working in the field of entertainment professionally since 2007, and spatial computing since 2016. As an actor, she is best known for The Homecoming, Anne With An E, The Resident and the video game, Far Cry. On this week's episode of Reset, Renew, Revive, I am joined by celebrity weight loss coach Stu Schaefer, who helps people put their body into a thermogenic state to burn fat constantly.  After Stu overcame anorexia, he devoted his life to helping others realize they can reset their metabolism, balance their hormones and not be afraid of eating. Stu says that the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting are wrecking people's bodies by blowing out their thyroid and causing repressed metabolic syndrome. The only way to correct this is to put your body in a thermogenic state, which means eating more of the right foods while exercising less.  When people diet and exercise too much, they shut their bodies down, making them incapable of burning fat. When you put your body in a thermogenic state, you lose cravings, you're never hungry, you gain energy and you only have to work out 30 – 45 minutes a day.  There are four components of a healthy eating program: mindset, nutrition, weight training and cardio. Applying these four components can help anyone attain their ideal weight.    KEY TAKEAWAYS [1:02] Stu's personal story of anorexia [5:01] How to reset repressed metabolism [7:41] How to put your body in a thermogenic state [15:36] Why dieting fads don't work [16:31] Why the food quadrant is important [18:47] Why eating a lot of fruit could be bad for you [19:43] Why calories in, calories out doesn't work   HOW TO CONNECT WITH OUR GUEST https://www.stuschaefer.com https://www.stuschaefer.com/drbindiya (for a free Masterclass)   MEMORABLE QUOTES “There are two things in particular going on that are really wrecking people's bodies. The first is the ketogenic diet, and the second is intermittent fasting.” “For so many years we've been told that we need to starve ourselves and that we need to over exercise. The minute you say exercise less and eat more, people freak out.” “The biggest reason that people struggle to lose is because they're buying into the lies propagated by the diet and health industry.” “Every time there's a fad, there's a lot of money to be made. Steve Cody has started 18 businesses and clearly is a lifelong learner. He doesn't make excuses and has built opportunities over the years with the attitude “where there is a will there's a way.” This no excuse attitude was a big part of the episode, as he shares examples of how he learned to be independent and solve problems.Growing up in a household with a single mom, moving schools a lot and having to get started paying bills young he's leveraged all of that into his character. Much of the episode is evidence about how much of an impact his mother had on him to becoming the businessman that he is. Learning how to aim for your big goals, try things you've never done and win, or learn, are great examples of such life lessons. We also get into the discussion around how to best help other youth who may be having to overcome odds and some ideas as a society on how we can make some changes. Steve is a great person to lead this charge because he understands first hand what some youth are going through. He brings up a great point that we really need to meet them where they are, because those who struggle just don't know any different.Steve started his first business out of necessity to start pulling his weight with household bills. And before long he had scaled one business after the other. Building from one opportunity to the next, he went from a window cleaning business at fifteen, to rental businesses and eventually building tech companies. Steve takes us on quite the journey to share all of his entrepreneurial experience and how it's similar to being a lifelong artist.Chatting about education and how Steve found that for him the best education was business was a really interesting part of the conversation. We discuss how to get clarity over your ideas, and why entrepreneurship may be the best lifestyle for many of us.  The fact that Steve simply can not work in an environment with a boss was a very interesting thing to learn about as well. For many of us we have the same ideas, but don't take that leap.We hear about his latest venture, “Bunking” which is a marketplace for shared living and travel of like-minded people. And we even learn about the fact that Steve and their family lost a son to addiction, something that he struggled with, but used as fuel to keep pushing as well. It's tough to summarize an episode, because listening is always the best way to take it all in. There were many great moments, hope you enjoy!Memorable Quotes“There's no grand plan, I just kind of find problems in life and then work to solve them.”“If I look at myself and the way I was brought up, you don't even know good from bad.”“I'm not an artist, but I can imagine they love painting pictures and they get right into it. They have a vision and they want to see it through. I think an entrepreneur is a lot like that. We get this vision, we get excited and we want to see it through.”“It's a gift not wanting a boss.”6 Things To Keep In Mind On Your Entrepreneurial Journey There are different opinions, but loving what you do is a huge part of it. Loving what you do will allow you to be persistent and creative throughout the journey.Be an artist. Create your art by diving deep into problems you can solve.Be realistic and simple with the first business. What is a problem people have, will they pay you to solve it? Solve it, and keep solving it. Enjoy the excitement and energy of appreciating that collecting money is a matter of being rewarded fairly for helping people with their problems.Realize that a lot of other people's success took way longer than you think, so don't compare yourself to their path.Remember that the more you want, the tougher it will get, so be prepared to overcome challenges.Guest BioSteve was 15 years old when he launched his first company. Wellness: The 5 Keys to Raising Kids for a Lifetime of Physical & Mental Health, corporate consultant, a chiropractic doctor, and more. He has owned and operated numerous wellness centers in New York and California, and today, he is here to talk to us about the DREAM, the five main keys to achieving wellness. The main topics we discuss are Brian's journey into the world of chiropractic care and wellness, D.R.E.A.M: the five main keys to a healthy life, and more. Brian also speaks about healthy strategies for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy birthing process for your child as well. He asserts that one should be extremely mindful of what they are consuming during pregnancy and after birth because babies are little balls of energy that absorb everything. That includes things more than food such as music, conversations, and more. We may think that because we haven't had any serious medical issues and we maintain a healthy lifestyle, for the most part, we're in the clear of getting any illnesses, and that is not true. Simply having a misalignment in the spine can have detrimental effects on the body because there is not sufficient blood flow in the spine, which is where our nervous system lives. This is why Brian highly recommends parents have a chiropractor be a part of the birthing process because misalignments are very common among newborns. Sometimes you need a buddy to exchange ideas and energy with. A buddy can help us with accountability and encouragement, or simply be a sounding board when we need to get our ideas and problems out. This episode talks about where in your life the power of support fuels your brave acts. On the way back from hauling horses, I led the navigation from a separate car instead of being right beside my aunt. My aunt mentioned that she felt braver when we were next to each other, and her words made me think about the power of having someone by our side, like a wingwoman or wingman. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP90's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. We dare to be braver when we are beside a buddy or in a tribe. Having someone supportive at your side makes life easier to manage and makes taking a leap seem less daunting. On our Wise Walk, I discuss how you can connect with mutual support to bravely pursue your True Stride. I share my personal experiences, from finding a great running partner to joining a community while writing my book, Heart Value. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life are there power in numbers? Where do you find yourself getting stronger or more brave because you have someone sitting beside you? What does it look like in your life when you don't have that supportive person? Are there things that you're struggling with right now because you are hesitant to ask for help or find support? You can rally support for projects and missions close to your heart. Gather people that empathize with what you're currently facing and where you'd like to go. You never know when you might need each other. Sometimes the people in your buddy system become encouragement for when you take a stumble. As you bond with your support system, you can show up for each other in meaningful and heart-centered ways. Connect with your support system and go after what you want more confidently with these Wise Walk questions: What is something that you are dying to do, but you haven't started? What's something you used to love doing, but maybe lost confidence in, and now you want to regain that confidence? What does it look like for you to build a support system so you can follow your True Stride towards something that is meaningful to you? Where in your life is there a project calling you, and can you rally support for that project? Is there a person or a group that you can engage as a support system? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! [02:37] - Mary Tess talks about this special running partner that helped her feel brave and safe. [05:11] - You can lean on support when you need to. [07:48] - Mary Tess is rebuilding her business mindset, but she says these three priorities come first. How does she find support for her priorities? How do we reduce the fear of death? - by learning the truth about it. In this episode of Ask a Death Doula, I have the great pleasure of sharing the Art of Doulagiving Graduate series with Certified Doulagiver Teri-Portugal Gooden. Teri's first experience of death was with her beloved Gaga. When alone in the room as Gaga with transition, she sat up and exclaimed with excitement to Teri “Not to be afraid because its beautiful!!!!! And showered Teri with red kisses all over her face just moments before she took her last breath.    In this episode, you will hear: When Teri first knew she had the calling to be a Doulagiver [3:06] – Teri had always worked and volunteered with terminally ill patients and even wrote a paper about it in the fourth grade. She always felt strongly about holding space for elderly people. She was profoundly moved by sitting with them and hearing their stories and their conversations at the end of life. Teri had a gift of feeling comfortable in this space and it empowered her to become a Doulagiver. We always encourage anybody who has this innate ability to step forward and answer their calling because so many people out in the world need you and it is such a special way to put love back into the world.   The importance of talking honestly with children and bringing back the sacredness surrounding death [5:25] – At Doulagivers, we believe one of the best ways to bring back the awareness of death and its sacredness into the natural fold of life is to be honest with children. There are age-appropriate ways to engage with children in the truthfulness of end of life rather than shielding them from that inevitability. One of the greatest gifts you can give children is not removing death from their understanding of life but teach them that it is a natural part of the human life cycle instead.     Gaga and the gift of community taking care of community [6:36] – Teri's grandmother that she refers to as “Gaga” came to the United States from Ukraine when she was a young girl. Teri's mother had her when she was young and was divorced when Teri was only two years old – this led Teri to spend a lot of time with her grandmother as she was growing up and they would bond over stories from her grandmother's journey to America. Part of these stories were about the importance of community – there was a network of immigrant women making sure their entire community was taken care of during that period of her grandmother's life. They made sure people were fed, provided medical care, birth care, and death care, as well as about anything else that was needed. Not all of these people were Ukrainian either – it was a mixture of people who had immigrated from every corner of the world in search of a better life. The wisdom and the lessons of how giving back is so important from listening to those stories had a huge impact on Teri at a young age and shaped her desire to work with those at end of life.   Death teaches you that we are connected to something so much greater [11:44] – It is almost indescribable the peace, the serenity, the connection to something so much greater than what we normally think of when working with those at the end of life. It solidifies that there is an omnipresence of us all… and it is love. It's dropping the physical, human part of us, and having that spiritual part that is so full of light and shine that exists forever. When you feel that and know that - you know the person is no longer with you, but it brings incredible peace to us when losing a loved one. We want people to know that death can be beautiful, that it is sacred, and that it is natural – and teach people the practical skills to be prepared for and to handle end of life well because we know we are all going to get there someday.     How becoming a Doulagiver has led Teri to live a “purposeful life” [18:08] – Teri had worked in a demanding business for thirty years and felt depleted when she decided to close that chapter and take a new direction in life. She wanted to be of service and to live a purpose-filled life. Teri says that once she became a Doulagiver she felt “completely home.” It allows her empathic nature to be fully present, celebrated, and offered to those who need it most. Being a Doulagiver has shown her so much that she says has improved her quality and understanding of life by letting her live in complete authenticity and freedom to be herself. When you're able to be yourself and not try to fit into other things, it really makes life so much better, and it is a beautiful thing. It allows you to shine out in the world and share your gifts with others. Memorable Quotes: “There are age-appropriate ways to engage with children in the truthfulness of end of life rather than shielding them from that inevitability. One of the greatest gifts you can give children is not removing death from their understanding of life but to teach them that it is a natural part of the human life cycle instead.” - Suzanne B. O'Brien RN   “It is almost indescribable the peace, the serenity, the connection to something so much greater than what we normally think of when working with those at the end of life. It solidifies that there is an omnipresence of us all… and it is love. We want people to know that death can be beautiful, that it is sacred, and that it is natural – and teach people the practical skills to be prepared for and to handle end of life well because we know we are all going to get there someday.”- Suzanne B. David is a Certified Practitioner in Functional Medicine, Board Certified in Integrative and Internal Medicine, and Cannabis Specialist. We discuss the pros and cons of medical marijuana, CBD, and how each form of consumption causes a different effect to the body. David emphasizes that much like breeds of dogs or cats, there are many breeds (strains) of cannabis. There's no one-plant-cures-all; one must really dive into their intentions when dealing with cannabis. Many times, people tend to dive into the world of cannabis and end up getting either extremely overwhelmed or underwhelmed by the dosage of whatever form they chose to consume because they lacked the education.  It's extremely important to talk with your health care provider to see what the best options are to curate the formula that will be the most effective option for you. It was a certainly a pleasure to chat about these stigmatized topics because we live in a new age and it's about time we start opening up to different options when it comes to healing the mind, body, and spirit. Tune in, listen, learn, and find out if this powerful plant is the next up in your healing journey! We have to forget that somewhat quickly otherwise you just get overrun.” “We want people to work with their health physician or health team… This is an area where a lot of consumers just say hey, I'm going to start myself.” “Start with intention. Really, what are you trying to achieve? And often you are having multiple symptoms, so you can be doing many things.” “First is, you really got to find a good company. You gotta find a company that has really quality growing practices… how are they extracting the chemical?” “Personally, I'm not a fan of Delta 8, really in general that much at all because there's too many steps for it to be a chemically-free product.” “Just because someone is using THC doesn't mean that you're getting high. THC is the compound that can get you high but that's at a certain dose.” “Allow yourself more mentors… It just makes it easier to see what a lot of people are doing and to, you know, bounce things off.”   Visit our store below: https://reviveatlmd.mindsharecommerce.com/ Code: First10 for 10% off Rejuvenate your Metabolism and Weight Loss Bundle 1)Weight Loss Support Packets   2)Adrenal Complex™ 120 capsules 3) Metal-x-Synergy 90 Vegetarian capsules These packets are designed to assist the body in using fat for fuel and to help support healthy insulin, cortisol, and energy metabolism. Loss and transition is not always easy. There's constantly these checkpoint moments like figurative “deaths” that occur in life. It can be when you end a career, end a friendship, have kids moving out, have a job switch, or more. Yet, from that is an opportunity of birthing something new. This episode talks about how death springs new life. My 9-day trip of hauling horses across the country was a very successful trip. Now that the horses are moved to start a new life, they can be in an environment that's good for them and supports their overall well-being. I'm glad I went on this trip. I'm so inspired that I decided I'm now committing to new grounding principles that will help me move forward into my new life. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP84's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. In the thick of a life and death situation over the last few months, certain things didn't seem as important to me, like sorting through my mail, weeding my yard or training my pups. But as I enter my own transition, I am ready to get back into a groove and focus on everything that creates harmony in my life. It's time to clarify my priorities, and create momentum that feels aligned to the new life I want ahead of me. On our Wise Walk, I discuss with you the ways that death, in all forms, can spring new life. For me, I choose to prioritize my pups, my body, and my home as I make my way through this transition. You can hear how I am blending this commitment into my life, and use it to reflect on where you are in your life. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: If you're experiencing some kind of transition in your life, how will you shift your awareness to the opportunity of a new life as you move forward? What became clear to you in this transition you are in? It's time to fully honor the evolution of your transition. Hold on to the priorities that help you build a new life, and don't hesitate to share your choice with people in your support system. They can be the extra boost you need to stay aligned to your priorities. Center yourself in the “now” to be present and set priorities for yourself, so you can be in alignment with who you are, who you want to be, and where you want to go. Spring into new life with these Wise Walk questions: How are you holding yourself accountable to be committed to prioritize the needs you have now? Where can you view loss as a catalyst for the new life coming? What do you appreciate more now that your eyes are open to death creating new life?  Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! If you are dealing with obesity, you might not know it but your body still has a chance to get rid of your excess weight as soon as possible. Obesity is heavily associated with other comorbidities, and the longer you have it, the harder it gets to treat. This is the reason why doctors suggest weight loss surgery as an option for patients with comorbid conditions and have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher, or have a BMI between 35 and 40.Bariatric surgery is one of the safest weight loss surgeries that has a record of 250,000 procedures performed each year. It helps patients increase their lifespan from the possible life-threatening weight-related health problems by making changes to their digestive system to help them reduce weight. In today's episode, we've invited Dr. Shusmita Ahmed, Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Residency program at UC Davis Medical Center who obtained her Bariatric Surgery fellowship at the same hospital. She has generously shared her knowledge about bariatric surgery and its benefits, the risks it poses, how patients are prepared for the surgery, and what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. She also discussed lifelong lifestyle changes necessary to maintain weight loss, which is essential to preserve the quality of life.Medical practitioners are gifted at educating patients about their chronic conditions and give options on how these can be treated. This episode is worth your time and undivided attention as it will enlighten you about life-saving procedures and lifestyle changes related to obesity.Memorable Quotes:There's a lot of stigmas associated with obesity and we don't want patients to not get treated because they feel stigmatized and that they feel like they're a failure. Healing doesn't always mean symptoms disappear. Dr. Christina Velderman shares an esoteric meaning of what healing entails and the state of constant change we all encounter throughout life.     In this episode, Cathy and Christina discuss:  What it means to really heal and what Christina means when using the word spirit The reality of the constant change and interactivity of life The two things health coaches must understand to really understand healing: 1-There's a (disease) state we want to leave behind 2-There's a desire to change things, from one state to another How our state is impacted by a unique combination of stimulus from 3 categories: External Pathogens: Viral, bacterial, external trauma, emotional or physical climatic toxins Internal Pathogens: constitutional or genetic irregularities and deficiencies or emotional excess  Lifestyle Passive Pathogens: diets, fatigue, sexual intemperance  Emotions of Chinese medicine: anger, joy, mania pensiveness/excessive rumination, worry or anxiety, sadness, grief, fear, and shock  Understanding the disease state  What it means to alleviate suffering and letting go of control Being part of a whole in both disease and wellness Memorable Quotes: “There is no amount of juicing, there is no amount of fasting or detoxing or whatever you can do that will assure you never fall ill, that you never have discomfort, or that you never die. We're all gonna die. No matter how we live. We all decline and die. That is the nature of life. The state of constant change.”  “In your state of disease or your state of wellness, you are fundamentally whole. You are part of the one, something that is constantly changing, it's growing, it is well outside the conscious control of any one individual or group of people, so you know that's kind of out there but what is healing.”   Dr. Christina Velderman is a doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. She was trained in a classical school in the tradition of Master Jeffrey Yuen who's an 88th generation Daoist priest of the Jade Purity Lineage. Prior to becoming a doctor, Kristina was a business consultant, worked in leadership and business and in the health of higher education fields for 15 years.     Links to resources: Health Coach Group Website https://www.thehealthcoachgroup.com/

She received her early ballet training there, and took part in her first dance productions in the middle of her parents' living room. At the age of fifteen, Genevieve moved to Chicago to study at the School of Ballet Chicago, and that same year became a founding member of the Ballet Chicago Studio Company. In addition, Genevieve supplemented her training with study at the San Francisco Ballet School, American Ballet Theatre, and with Suzanne Farrell at The Kennedy Center. A contract with the Oakland Ballet brought Genevieve to the San Francisco Bay Area. Beginning in 2006, Genevieve began performing as a freelance artist, dancing principal and soloist roles throughout North America, and started dreaming of opening her own boutique school that would celebrate the things she loved most about ballet. During a break in her performance schedule, Genevieve's husband, Andrew, finally asked, "Why wait?" and Tutu School was born. Since the founding of that first initial studio, Tutu School has grown into a collection of more than forty boutique ballet schools all over the US and Canada, and Genevieve – who retired from performing in 2012 – now divides her time between Tutu School and her life with Andrew, a photographer, and their three adorable kids.
