According to the latest research, life expectancy has risen dramatically, increasing 26 years since the mid-20th century. However our healthspan (healthy years free of disease) has not followed suit. There is a significant gap between our lifespan and healthspan driven by the pandemic of chronic diseases afflicting a growing aging population. The current overburdened and reactive health care system is compounding this lag in quality of life, where health risks linger for years and are detected late. The age-old quest for healthy longevity begins with predictive healthcare. And while AI may seem a bit scary to us GenXers, its potential could prove very helpful when it comes to analyzing biomarkers on healthspan and longevity. Jim Kean CEO of Molecular You, is a pioneering senior tech executive with a focus on innovative, disruptive, consumer-oriented health and wellness digital experiences. The consistent theme: creating user delight, loyalty, and retention while fundamentally re-engineering the cost of delivery. He founded WellnessFx and played a significant role in online health communities as President of Sapient Health Network, which later merged with WebMD. Join Lauren and Jim as they examine: how we can feel more at ease with AI; how AI can help with our healthcare; how IA is it being used right now; how AI can help bridge the gap between healthspan and longevity; how AI's role is shifting from reactive healthcare to proactive healthcare; how Molecular You assess an individual's distinct blood profile to anticipate potential health risks and catch chronic diseases early; how blood test results should be used; success stories using AI in healthcare and so much more. If we are living to be centenarians, wouldn't those extra years be better if we were to age well and not just age? Show Notes Disruptive CEO Nation Podcast with Allison K. Summers Episode 123 Zak Holdsworth, Co-founder Hint Health In both technology and vision, Zak Holdsworth's story is inspirational on how he went from a small farming community in New Zealand to fulfilling his dream of making it in Silicon Valley. Today he is working on democratizing the world of primary care physicians to free them from the complex world of US insurance carriers. Zak is a change maker, helping physicians cut out the insurance process by going direct to consumers and using the new model for direct primary called subscription as a service.  Prior to co-founding Hint, Zak was VP Business Development at WellnessFX, the first direct-to-consumer clinical diagnostics/telemed company in the US, a startup he invested in during his time at Voyager Capital. Zak holds a BE (Honors) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.  Highlights of our conversation include:  Complexities of disrupting any existing system, especially one with a trillion-dollar risk.  How transformation requires support from the communities of people on the path of change with you. Challenges facing physicians who choose to  step outside of the status quo and take the leap of faith to restart their practice from scratch under the new model. The relationship Zak has with his co-founder - how they went from professionals who butted heads to synchronized collaboration and trust. How the Hint platform provides a total business solution and integrations for physicians wanting a one-to-one relationship with their clients. How a mission-based sales process and providing an annual Hint Summit builds relationships with physicians that results in referrals and retention. Enjoy the show! This is because unless you know what your blood looks like under a microscope, there is no way for you to identify with 100% confidence what steps you should take to eat the right diet, to take the right supplements, to protect your health, to enhance your well-being, to perform at peak capacity, and perhaps most importantly, to live as long as possible with as high a quality of life as possible. Enter blood testing. Blood testing is the most important step you can take to identify and prevent life-threatening diseases before they happen to you. With your blood test results in hand, you can catch critical issues in your body before they manifest as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, or worse. Knowledge of exactly what is going on inside your body empowers you to implement a science-based disease-prevention program that can literally add decades of healthy years to your life. And if your goal is to not only stop disease, but to also perform at your peak physical and cognitive capacity, blood testing is absolutely crucial for identifying which diet, which supplements and which lifestyle steps you should take to optimize your specific and unique health parameters. But sadly, most annual medical check-ups that the average physician orders are simply routine, old-school blood tests that don't even test for the most important markers of disease risk, and that are simply designed to make sure you're “not dying”. They aren't designed to optimize longevity or to ensure your body is completely primed to perform at peak capacity. What most people don't realize is that you can skip your physician and simply manage the entire process for getting your blood work done yourself. And if you want to test absolutely every little thing that affects your organs, your energy, your hormones, your health and your longevity, then you've found the ultimate answer. I worked closely with WellnessFX, America's top laboratory for concierge blood testing and online access to all your blood testing results, to develop the and , which is the most complete blood testing package for men that money can buy.  This is by far the most comprehensive blood testing package I recommend and is designed for the high performer, biohacker or anti-aging enthusiast who wants access to the same type of executive health panel and screening that would normally cost tens of thousands of dollars at a longevity institute. The panel I discuss in today's podcast dives deep into overall metabolic functioning for optimal long-term health and longevity, and includes thyroid function, stress response, blood glucose regulation, sex hormone balance, heavy metals, inflammation, organs of detoxification (liver, kidneys, gallbladder, and lungs), proteins, electrolytes, blood oxygen and nutrient delivery, immune system status, vitamin D status and much, much more, including: 25-Hydroxy-Vitamin D Apolipoprotein A-1 Apolipoprotein B Blood Lead Blood Mercury Cardio IQ Lipoprotein Fractionation Ion Mobility Complete Blood Count w/ differential Complete Metabolic Panel Copper Cortisol Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate Ferritin, serum Fibrinogen Folate Free Fatty Acids Hemoglobin A1c Homocysteine High-sensitivity C-reactive protein IGF-1 (Growth hormone surrogate) Insulin Iron, TIBC Lipid Panel Lipoprotein (a) Luteinizing Hormone Omega 3 Fatty Acids RBC Magnesium Reverse T-3 Selenium SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) T-3 Total T-3 Uptake T-4 (Thyroxine) T-3 Free T-4 Free Testosterone + Free Testosterone Thiamine Thyroglobulin Antibodies Thyroid Peroxidase AB TSH Uric Acid Vitamin A Vitamin B12 Zinc Estradiol As you can see, I've held nothing back and covered all bases with this customized blood panel. You will not find a test this comprehensive anywhere else, guaranteed. From identifying disease to optimizing longevity and anti-aging to maximizing performance, this test gives you absolutely everything you need. During this podcast, in which I cover my own results from my recent longevity panel, you'll discover: My own process of testing my blood. I had 19 tubes of blood drawn; you typically have 3-5 tubes drawn in a blood test. My motivation: What if you want the same type of blood test that would be tens of thousands of dollars at a longevity center? I wanted to advise myself with more precision than typical blood tests such as TSH. I designed a package with Wellness FX, for men and women. I do this on a quarterly basis; although once a year (or once per life) is sufficient for most people. First thing you see on the report: cardiovascular health. Basic lipid panel. Risk factors: Red (high caution); orange (pay attention); green (good to go). A lot of red doesn't necessarily mean a bad thing; all green doesn't necessarily mean all good either. My total cholesterol is red: 267. High cholesterol isn't a risk factor; it's when it becomes oxidized. My HDL levels are through the roof: 151. High level of HDL could mean your body is carrying a lot of metabolites to the liver due to constant inflammation. I tested all my inflammations, all very low. Question to ask: are you a lean mass hyper responder? Could have a higher LDLP particle count. High HDL, inflammation is low, not of concern. High cholesterol and high inflammation, be concerned. Below lipid panel you'll see LDL particles. I use the Thorne multivitamin. The chlorogenic acid you find in artichoke extract is efficacious in lowering APOB My peak LDL size has been climbing; ideally I want it above 222 1/2. My LDL particle count is actually low. Small low density lipoprotein low compared to peak LDL size. Overall I'm happy with my results. Look for increase in the size of my LDL particles. “How can I live a long time and feel good doing it?” Free fatty acids associated with diabetes and heart disease. Omega Index: two different fatty acids in your red blood cells. Arachidonic acid levels are normal; I feel like I could step up my Omega 6 fatty acid intake. (Sprinkle hemp seeds on your salad.) Metabolic health: Risk factors for diabetes and insulin resistance. You want your insulin levels relatively low. Wellness FX will give suggestions on how to lower insulin levels. My blood glucose level wasn't concerning, but a bit higher than normal. Homa IR score: Takes both glucose and insulin levels into account. A ratio of glucose vs. insulin. Thyroid health: You typically see only TSH. Mine has much more... My antibodies to thyroid are very low. Reverse T3 is very low; not concerned about stress. Free thyroxin index is normal. Thyroid peroxidase is a target of antibodies. I have low T3, T4, both total and free. My natural weight is 190-195; my actual weight is 175. I rarely eat until I'm full. Metabolic hormones: IGF is a bit low; I'll take colostrum for this. Cortisol: It's at 24; I want it between 2-20. If it's elevated on one snapshot, consider testing again. Cortisol metabolites. Dutch test for hormones. (link needed) Liver and Kidneys: High levels of creatinine; if you exercise prior to a lab test, the creatinine will be elevated. Blood urea nitrogen elevated. Forms when proteins break down. Elevates when people are a) dehydrated or b) exercised the day prior to the test. My liver values are of concern. ALT when elevated mildly not of concern; mine have raised each of the last 3 tests. Foods that are good for the liver. “What supplements should I take for peak performance?” Milk thistle Holy basil Dandelion root Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. I may fall into this category. Metabolism Reset Diet by Dr. Allen Christianson (link needed) Something I do to sleep on int'l flights: an edible of marijuana. Metabolized by the liver; could have contributed to my high levels. Electrolytes Looking at Co2 and chloride levels. My Co2 has dropped. Bone health: More Vitamin D is not better; Above 80 you have increased risk of mortality. If calcium is abnormal, can be caused by abnormal albumin. The blood: You have two components of your blood: cellular (red, white, platelets) and liquid (plasma). My mean platelet volume is okay. My white blood cell count looks great. Either too little or too much can lead to mortality. Red blood cells: Look great. I spend time in the sauna which is great for blood production. My iron levels are fine. An extra steak or two per week wouldn't kill me. Floradix (link) Vitamins and minerals: Folic acid is essential for DNA synthesis. When folate is high, it could mean using a lousy multivitamin. Vitamin B12 is required for proper nerve function; mine is through the roof. Vitamin A is in perfect amount. Red blood cell magnesium the most precise way to measure magnesium in cells. Copper needed in trace amounts. Zinc important for nails, DNA synthesis, chronic disease management; too much causes bad breath, excessive sweating. Black ant extract is great for zinc. Doctor Bryan Walsh is back with us today, discussing the diagnostic benefits of a simple blood chemistry.  He says the results of common and inexpensive lab panels can be mined for meaningful health information, potentially saving patients a lot of time and money on testing – that is, if you know what these blood markers actually mean (and your average doctor probably doesn’t). Fortunately for us, Bryan knows and loves to teach. In this podcast, he shares a bit about his own journey - what led him to study these basic blood markers, and what now inspires him to teach others.  If you like this episode, visit Bryan’s Metabolic Fitness Pro website, where he continues to develop new educational material for health practitioners and other avid learners. Be clear about your intention There are so many people out there who buy something and expect that product/service to do the work. Make sure you have the right intention when choosing a wearable device or when you purchase anything to help you get fit. 2. Have a plan Think about what device you are going to get and what the end result you’re expecting. Make sure you have a plan to get that result. Don’t expect the device to do the work if you don’t. 3. Find a coach Accountability is important. A professional has the ability to get you to your goal faster and help you get the results you want. Find a coach, hire them, and then do the work to yield the results.   Resources:   Connect with Josh:   Thanks for Listening! Thanks so much for joining us again this week. "We fully believe that optimized human beings lead to a better world. People being productive and creative in whatever it is that is theirs to do. But in many ways, our modern world works against us.” - Daniel Schmachtenberger, Co-Founder of The NeuroHacker Collective  On this special episode of Wellness Force Radio, Daniel shares far beyond how Nootropics like Qualia can provide a comprehensive hardware upgrade for radical cognitive enhancement and emotional resilience, but also how he believes it is creating the building blocks towards a better planet. You, The N Equals One [2:47] In a world of mass distractions, responsibilities, cumulative stressors and more notifications than ever in the palms of hands, millions of Americans have long since met their cognitive and emotional capacity.    Cognitive capacity is a nuanced relationship between many variables. Optimizing for one variable of cognitive function at the expense of other critical ones would not give us the result of comprehensive enhancement of human capability. For instance, having drive without the ability to focus well, or willpower without emotional resilience. For that reason, The Neurohacker Collective have designed a formula that deliberately balances subjective effects to give meaningful enhancement in a comprehensive way – a whole system upgrade called Qualia. If you're here reading, you felt the call towards Qualia. If you're in the contemplation phase or in the process of learning, this is an optimal time for your N=1. What is N=1? N-of-1 or single subject clinical trials consider an individual patient as the sole unit of observation in a study investigating the efficacy or side-effect profiles of different interventions. The ultimate goal of an n-of-1 trial is to determine the optimal or best intervention for an individual patient using objective data-driven criteria. From baseline to Qualia for 4 weeks, here are the 5 steps to start your own personal N:1 experiment in emotional resilience and cognitive performance:    Inspired Action: Order your 30 day supply of Qualia Baseline: Once your Qualia is received, take a baseline memory, reason, concentration and/or comprehensive cognitive test(s) on either Quantified Mind or Cambridge Brain Sciences and mark the date Stage 1: Begin stage 1 of Qualia on an empty stomach each morning for 30 days. Download the Qualia Quick Start Guide for full directions on stage 2 and total program here Journal: Each day for 30 days, journal for 5-7 minutes after your meditation session, or at minimum, during the same time each day. After 30 days: Congrats, you did it! How do you feel? What did you learn about yourself and Qualia? Now, reassess the same tests again for memory, reason, concentration and/or comprehensive cognitive performance (then email Josh and tell him how you feel!)   Rising Above All The Noise [11:36]   "What could a person of normal intelligence do with their life if they fully dedicated themselves to developing themselves comprehensively for the benefit of humanity?" - Richard Buckminster Fuller   People of all ages seek thier life purpose and calling. Maybe you've been called to a career or a responsibility that you now realize is keeping you from what you feel is really your life calling? If you're aware your vocation doesn't coincide with who you really are, you have the power change it because it's never too late to start a new path that benefit yourself and others. Rising above all the noise of modern society that's distracting you starts by creating the space to look inside.  To begin, use meditation or box-breathing to enter a calm mindset in the stillness and ask yourself these questions: What does the future of the world look like? How does this transition look like for everyone? What does it look like for me? If all my financial needs were met, what would I do? What would be the most meaningful thing for me to do? Answering these questions will raise your awareness above the noise and closer to true alignment with your most authentic self.   "By asking yourself these questions, we're not looking to answer how do we gain or how do we win at life. Rather, we're looking at what problems in the world bother us the most and what interest us."- Daniel Schmachtenberger   About Daniel Schmachtenberger [13:08]   Daniel Schmachtenberger is a social engineer and evolutionary philosopher and strategist. He is the Founder of Critical Path Institute, The Emergence Project, and The Co-Founder of The Neurohacker Collective. With an early childhood in the Transcendental Meditation community of Fairfield, Iowa, Daniel was homeschooled on the works of Buckminster Fuller, Fritjof Capra, and David Bohm. After many relocations in childhood, Daniel returned to Fairfield to further math and eastern philosophy studies at Maharishi University, before delving into the work of his adult life. After accumulating comprehensive inventories on behavioral influence, coupled with an already comprehensive literacy of complex systems and whole systems science, he then founded The Emergence Project and began working with a host of luminaries to tackle global scale problems with global scale solutions. Concurrently, he researched the epistemological frontier of neuroscience, delving deeply into integrative medicine as well as emergent neurotech tools and psychological techniques to optimize solutions on both sides of the mind/brain interface. All of these approaches, within an overarching framework of whole systems problem solving, have resulted in his axiomatic deconstruction of assumed scientific boundaries, and the emergence of a more integrally connected body of knowledge from which to understand scholarship. Daniel is not only a founder at Neurohacker Collective, but moreover a uniquely educated pioneer who is broadening the definition of scientific rigor itself.   What are Nootropics? [19:57] A Nootropic is a chemical that enhances some aspect of our cognitive ability beyond our normal capability without any impactful side affects. When our brain power and cognitive ability drops below normal baseline, Nootropics help  to support existing and to create new capacities for our brainpower. Nootropics like Qualia are not "medicine," but they can optimize our capability to overcome when we face different challenges such as brain fog.   The Difference between Nootropics and "Smart Drugs" A lot of people will take "smart drugs" such as Adderall to help them focus, but Adderall also has a lot of long term side affects such as irritability, anxiety, loss of empathy and ability for digit span. Adderall can help enhance one aspect, but unlike Nootropics that support systemic enhancement, it won't fully supplement the brain in a comprehensive manner.   Emotional Resilience, Curiosity & Wellness [24:50]   How many times have you felt the pull of distraction today? Maybe caught yourself looking at your phone too much? Did you try to have a conversation with someone, but they were absorbed by their phone? It is easy to become slaves to emails, notifications, and social media messages. So much so, that the present moment is lost.  When we're practicing emotional resilience however, we can take on deeper personal connections, and our biggest and brightest goals. When we're present, we're naturally curious, which allows us unlimited access to our wellness force: our ability to create a positive vibration in that moment, and in the collective world. It's the burning curiosity of visionaries like the Co-Founder of The Neurohacker Collective, Daniel Schmachtenberger, who believes that it is now both possible and necessary for human beings to dramatically upgrade our individual and collective capacities and safeguard the wellbeing of all, and he is on a mission to help build a global alliance of responsible, empowered individuals and like minded groups dedicated to making this vision a reality.   Cognitive Enhancement [28:13]   "We believe that it is now both possible and necessary for human beings to dramatically upgrade our individual and collective capacities and safeguard the well-being of all. Our mission is to help build a global alliance of responsible, empowered individuals and like minded groups dedicated to making this vision a reality." -Daniel Schmachtenberger   At a young age, Daniel realized that he was experiencing brain fog. In order to enhance his thinking, he began to focus on underlying disease structures to find the root of the problem. Unlike some acute diseases that can be cured with one medication, areas of health such as brain fog, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's are more complicated and can have several root causes. To help end his brain fog, Daniel needed to enhance his brain by providing it with an optimal cognitive bandwidth. So he asked himself, how could a person enhance their own cognitive ability? To understand the brain's ability and how we can reach cognitive enhancement, Daniel studied the following areas: Cognitive chemistry Nootropics Brain nutrients Neuro chemistry and structure Smart drugs Short term vs. long term memory Verbal fluency and ability Digital spain Focus and concentration Thinking speed Neurotransmitters (dopamine, glutamine) Get 10x More Done In Life [37:01]    "Increasing the quality of our experience means less subjective suffering and more subjective happiness. That's important because human experience is intrinsically meaningful. By experiencing human capability and the pre-disposition to solve problems, we create things of meaning which also ends up increasing the experience of other people." - Daniel Schmachtenberger   Every single one of us has a hidden meaning or purpose, just waiting to be discovered. But we can't find it if we're distracted by incessant messages, media, or outside noise. We're all either motivated or inspired by numerous factors and in different manners. Our world view, personal beliefs, economic situation, and even knowing our biology can motivate or direct us towards what we feel called to do. How we can use this motivation to our advantage? We can biologically optimize our lives with technology and biomarker data. Using technology and biomarker data, we can improve what we has human beings are capable of doing in this world. Sources such as WellnessFX, 23 And Me, and Ubiome can give us the genetics data we need to help us track our progress while using a nootropic like Qualia to enhance our lives and increase our emotional resilience.   "Qualia is not your golden ticket to everything, but it can support you by enhancing your ability to do things more effectively and grow your capability to make better decisions." -  Daniel Schmachtenberger   How To Increase Our Emotional Presence [46:12]   "There's circuitry in the brain that actually wired us to care for other people and tribes. That's how we would have survived." - Jason Silva of Brain Games   We are meant to be in a tribe. When we're surrounded by people who give us the compassion and support that we need to grow, we all win. But not everyone is born with or capable of being empathetic towards others. How can we create more empathy and compassion? According to Daniel, humans have "hardware" and "software" that connects us with the "collective" or the rest of the world. Together, all of our physical and social needs are interdependent upon each other. Daniel gave a great example of how we can take care of ourselves while also being omni-considerate. To begin, think about life would be like without plants. Our bioshphere created both us and plants. Therfore, without plants, we wouldn't have the means to live- no air nor food. The same goes for water and gravity. We are completely interdependent with the planet and everyone else.   Our Actions Affect Everything [53:23] With that thought in mind, we can increase our emotional presence by being more present with our actions or what we buy. Every time we make a decision, we can make the best choice by thinking about not only how it will affect ourselves, but everything else in the biosphere as well. We're a growing population and we need to be emotionally present with how our actions are affecting not only people, but the planet.   See the World Differently   "Practice looking at the world through other people's eyes." - Daniel Schmachtenberger   One of Daniel's favorite ways to increase emotional presence is just to think about looking at the world through the perspective of other people. What other people value What can hurt them Why they are asking for something The reason they feel upset or feel a certain way about something This way of thinking can help us grow our wellness through better relationships with loved ones and create positive connections with everyone else that we come into contact with. Emotional Resilience [47:30]   With all of the challenges that we face in this world, it can be emotionally draining at times. At some point we may feel like we've lost our original path to living the life that we want. The life we wanted that gave us purpose. Nootropics like Qualia can support people in get engaged once again with what they are curious about. As Daniel discusses during the 2016 event "The Hive Panel: The Future of Humanity and Systems Thinking" he believes that only fully optimized human beings can improve the world. "What's amazing is that knowing your health data can only help you. There's never been anyone that hasn't benefited or been harmed by knowing more about their cholesterol, thyroid function, inflammation, or Vitamin D levels. You can only benefit from a blood test."- Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi   How much can your blood panels reveal about your health? This week, author, physician, and Medical Director at WellnessFX, Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi, talks about the importance of blood tests and explains how a personalized analysis can make your physical and emotional health bulletproof. Make Your Health Bulletproof We all know that knowledge is power. Therefore, to fully understand where our health stands and to become bulletproof, we need to look at the entire picture. Maybe you don't feel good and don't know why? Thanks to blood tests, we can learn more than we ever could before about our personal health. With this knowledge, we're given the opportunity to make necessary life changes to feel better each day and prevent disease in the future.  A blood test can tell you so much about your biomarker levels and organ functions. Take advantage of this valuable information and make good, healthy changes in your life.    Take Advantage of Blood Tests As we evolve as a society, we're becoming more aware of the importance of our health. With all of the benefits that blood tests give us, we can lead healthier lives. Taking a blood test may sound scary if you think about needles and having your blood drawn. However, the process is simple and can help you learn so much about your body and mental health. Even if you're a very healthy person, a blood test can show some surprising information about yourself and alert you about any health concerns.   How Often Should You Take a Blood Test? How often you should have a blood test done depends on your health concern or motive. If you want to take charge and find the perfect wellness combination for you, Dr. Khaleghi recommends having a blood test done every 6 months to 1 year until you reach your health goal. Overall, with the help of a blood test, you can make better decisions concerning your nutrition, fitness, sleep, and mental health.    Understand Your Unique Health   "One of the best features of a service like WellnessFX is the opportunity to really get your individualized feedback and adjust accordingly. The health adjustments that were right for me may not be right for everyone else. We all vary genetically."- Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi   An ordinary blood test can provide us with general information that is difficult to understand. Fortunately, one of the best things about a personalized blood test is that a personalized consultation is provided to explain the results and recommend what steps to take next on your wellness journey. Each and every single one of us is genetically different. Thus, our bodies need different amounts and forms of nutrition, exercise, and health care.  A personalized blood test will give you insight into several health factors, including: Blood health Cholesterol Cardiovascular health Cortisol Thyroid function Inflammation Vitamin D Blood sugar Insulin Organ health (livers, kidney) Whether you want just an overall view of your health or focus on something specific such as athletic performance, blood analysis organizations like WellnessFX offer different types of blood tests.    Improve Your Mental Health   "It's very interesting that emotional health seems to be both an effect and a cause of our health markers. By making yourself healthier, you improve your mental health. By improving your mental health, you make yourself healthier."- Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi   From nutrition to exercise, knowing more about your health means that you can make better choices for yourself each day. As Dr. Murdoc Khaleghi explains during the podcast, living a healthy lifestyle becomes a positive feedback loop for both your body and mind. By focusing on improve health basics such as eating better, exercising more, sleeping soundlessly, and taking more Vitamin D, you're improving your overall health and wellness. It's really hard. Maybe someday that will work. Regardless, I got to float in salt water, and it was warm like a bath tub for a long time, so that was sweet. I went and lifted weights with Dave Woodward, which was awesome, and then hung out with the kids, and now I'm heading into the office. So a couple of cool things, one is we're doing this really cool project with Fiber Fix, is a cool viral video that went viral a little while ago, but their funnel isn't converting, so we're doing this swap with them. They're going to help us with this video in exchange for us helping them with their funnel, if we can beat their funnel. So the test goes live today and I'm crazy, crazy proud of the funnel, so I'm excited to see how that goes. So that's going live today, with a bunch of other things. But what I wanted to talk to you about today, because this is an exciting day, when I start talking and geeking out and getting really excited about it. And it kind of ties into something I've been thinking a lot about, and I've even done some podcasts about this. But I want to bring you guys in on this thing because it's going to be really cool and exciting. If everyone is doing it, we're all going to grow together. So you can choose to be part of it or not. But if you choose to be part of it you will see insane amounts of growth in your life. So here's what we're doing, first thing, I need to set this up a little bit. If any of you guys have ever studied Tony Robins, one of the things he talks about is the six human needs. There's four needs of the body and two needs of the spirit. Our body, a lot of people never actually get their needs of their spirit met, they just don't because they never get to that level. But everybody gets the needs of their body met. So the needs of the body, I don't know how many times we have to go into this. Basically there are four human needs. Four needs of the body. One of them is significance. We need to feel significant. The opposite of significance is the second one, which is love and connection.  So there's this internal dilemma we have as humans. We want to feel significant, look how great I am. But we also want love and connection, which is like look how great you are. There's this connection. So two of the human needs. Then there's, I'm going to blank out right now….Love and connection, significance….then you've got variety. We need excitement, change, all these things happening. But we also want certainty. So there's the other two human needs. Variety, which is craziness and new things, and then certainty which is like, I need to be certain in everything. So during this podcast, I don't have time to go into all of those things. I've done some podcasts in the past and maybe I'll do some in the future because it's exciting. Part of our whole goal here on earth and in this life is to master our body. So understanding those first four human needs and how to create addictions and how to break addictions all through those human needs is fascinating and we could talk about that for a year, in fact, maybe I will sometime. But after you get the body mastered and figured out, the next step are the needs of the spirit. The first need of the spirit is growth and the second is contribution. I always think about this, there's times in people's lives where we need to grow. You go to school, you're growing. When you are starting new career, you're in a growth phase. There's a time in your life when growth is super important. But eventually you start to grow and some people get stuck in this. They learn and grow and study and they love going to school, they grow, grow, grow  but they never transition to the next need which is contribution. When you're going through this growth phase, you're trying to become something. But eventually, if you just keep growing, the only person that benefits is you, which is kind of a selfish need when you look at it. But it's necessary because as you grow and as you become something more than you are now, then you can turn around and contribute that to other people. So you contribute in a lot of ways. As an employee, you're growing and then after a while that growth of what you've learned you start contributing to your company and help some people. If you're an expert, for a while you're in a phase where you're trying to learn and become something and then you turn around and start teaching and coaching other people and now you're contributing. So there's this transition from growth to contribution that's fascinating. And again, we could talk about that forever, it's so exciting. But that's kind of what I wanted to do today. Dave and I are talking about today about a bunch of things we want to do. We thought how fun would it be to create a phase in our life right now where we get back to growth. In Clickfunnels, what we're doing, we're in this huge contribution phase and we're contributing. And I feel like, me personally and everyone on the team…..me personally, I went through ten years of growth, trial and error. Learning and studying and everything to be able to contribute at this level we're at right now. And the problem is that I've seen this so many times from friends and mentors and people I know. There was a time where they grew and started contributing, but then they stopped growing and then the contribution stopped. And it freaks me out and I do not want to be that person who is not able to contribute anymore because I stopped growing. I think there is a cycle between growth and contribution. Because as you contribute you start growing. And then it grows and you….there's a really cool spiral that makes everything rise together. It's been a couple of years since I've focused on my own personal growth. I do things here and there, things are happening where I'm trying to grow. But not where I was like, I'm going to go back and grow and really focus on growth for a period. I don't know if that's a month, six months, a year, two years. I don't know what that is, but I feel like right now if I focus more on growth, it's going to make my contribution bigger. So I'm excited for that. I think back about the big growth phases in my life. When I first started this business, I went through a huge growth phase, where I was consuming for 18 months. I think we all do this, we consume, we learn, we're trying things. We aren't having success yet, but that growth we go through is what makes it so we can contribute and if we don't go through that, it's hard. In fact, it's funny, it's one of the things that….yesterday my coach, Tara that I was working with talked about. Some of the people we work with, we're giving them….we're building out a whole funnel and giving it to them and they didn't have to grow to get it, so their struggling to have the contribution and have an impact on their business because of that. There's value in going through that growth phase. So when I first started my business I went through this huge growth phase that got me from not knowing anything to, “I now have something that I'm selling online.” There's a huge initial growth. And then I started selling stuff and it was awesome and it worked for a while. Then I kind of stopped growing and I was just contributing from the momentum I'd gotten from my initial growth phase. And I was doing well, and probably the next year and a half, two years, I was in that contribution phase and was doing well. But then I started making enough money where I could start blowing money on courses. Right now, we're moving. We're about to move offices, so I'm trying to clear off my 1,000 book shelves. It's insane. Everyone in the office calls me a book hoarder and a course hoarder. And I'm totally hoarding these, but I went through this phase then for the next probably year and half, two years where I started buying everything. Literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in courses and trainings and books and CD's and everything. And I went through this time where I was just geeking out and studying everything. And what was cool at this point, I had this little business it was fledgling, it was kind of doing well enough to support itself and give me money for my addiction which became marketing books and courses. But as I would learn things I would immediately go back and apply to the business and we started growing. Probably two or three years I went through this phase where I was buying everything. All my money went reinvested back into education. And I was going through this huge growth curve which gave me the ability to contribute more. And after two or three years of that, then I stopped focusing on growth and started focusing mor eon contribution. It was good, and that's kind of what brings us to today. So I kind of want to stimulate a growth period in my own personal life and my team's life. I want to challenge you guys to do it as well. .This is what we're doing. Dave and I talked about it today, I'm going to have a meeting when I'm at the office and get everyone on board because it will be fascinating and cool. I've basically been taking all of my courses, because in the move I'm trying to clear off bookshelf space. I've got hundreds of thousands of dollars in  courses that I'm ripping all the CD's and putting them in audio format and putting them on my iPad and my iPhone. I've got maybe 50 or so courses now that have been switched to that. I've got every Dan Kennedy course ever created. Every Jay Abraham course created. Dan Solomen, Matt Furey, John Rees, Mark Joyner, all of the classics, all of the good ones. Everything. So now they're in a format where I can start consuming them. So I'm going to do this with my team, I'm going to get all the people that, not everyone geeks out with this, but there's a group that do, and I want to get the 5 or 6 of us together and say each Monday or Friday we'll pick a course and each person picks a different course. Then you've 7 days to speed learn it. Go through it, take notes, study it. And then the next week later come back together as a group and say, “Okay, what did you learn from this course?” and have everyone share it. “These are the 5 or 10 things that I learned in this course that are applicable to us.” So I just got this growth and I'm going to contribute it back to you now, and we can contribute it as a company, now the growth flows into contribution. And I figure if there's 5 or 6 of us pounding through an entire $2,000 marketing course each week, I think the growth and contribution we'll be able to do is going to be insane. So that's part number one of this. That's what we're going to do. I would recommend you finding a group of peers or friends or people in the Clickfunnels group, or people who work with you, but find a group and do this together. This is something that's hard to do by yourself. If you've got some accountability it will be easier and better. It doesn't have to be a $2,000 course, it could be an audio book, it could be pounding through a book a week. It could be whatever that is, but find a way to compress decades of information into days. Tony Robins is the first person I heard say that, he said, “You can read a book that takes a decade of someone's time and energy and put in a format where you can consume it in a day, and you can literally learn in a day what took somebody a decade to learn.” That's the power of books. That's what I want to do through here. I want each week for me to get a decade worth of stuff in a couple days. But multiply that by 5 or 6 guys on my team. I'm getting half a century  worth of stuff every single  week.  And as a team we're growing and contributing and it's going to be awesome. That's kind of the first step. The second step is, and I talked about this a little while ago, I want to, not just from a learning…..Did you hear that car, some guy thinks he's way too cool. So that's the firs thing, the second thing, I don't just want to grow from a learning standpoint, that's a big piece of this. But the other piece I want to learn, is I want to grow in other aspects of my life as well. I'm going to use this opportunity fo rboth. What we talked about doing today, Dave and I. And I talked about this a little while ago, figure out all the different tests we can take on ourselves to figure out where we are in things. So Wellness FX for example, has an amazing blood work. You can do all this blood work and they ‘ll give you back this panel for everything, your testosterone levels, your fat levels, your cholesterol, everything. So I'm going to go and I think Dave's going to go and try to get everyone else to go do  a Wellness FX and get our initial blood work done, and I want to do another food allergy test. I want to do a 23 Me test, which is like, I actually already did that one. But everyone else is going to get a 23 Me test, which is going to tell you your genetics. We're going to make lists of as many different tests like that we can take. Personality test, we did a disc profile recently. Other ones like that and try to get baselines of all this stuff, so I get to become more aware of all this stuff. My body, my personality. The love language test, all these things so I have a better picture of where I'm at to figure out where to grow from there. Half of growth is being aware of where you are today and most of us don't really know. We're kind of just wandering around bumping off things and hoping we'll eventually get to where we want to go. But the best way to get to where you want to go is having a map to help you get there. So we're going to be doing all these tests to figure out , here's the game plan and map of where we're trying to go. We're going to make an excel sheet and bust out as many tests as we can find. Personality, health, blood, urine tests, if that's what it takes. I don't care, whatever it is. Take tons of tests so we can get some baselines as well and from there make cool decisions. So that's kind of what's happening. I'm going to meet today with my team and see who wants to get in on it. And we're going to start going through a huge growth phase of our learning and also getting tests done to figure out where we're at and figure out how to evolve and grow from there. So we can grow more, contribute more, and help change the world even better. I don't know about you, but I've got some big visions to change the world and I feel like we've just gotten started. Anyway, I hope this gets you excited, it gets me excited. What I would do is find 3 of your friends and have them listen to this podcast and become accountability partners. Each of you pick a book or a course a week or whatever it is and start mass learning and figure out how you can apply it to your businesses and figure out how you can apply it to your life. If you wanted to test things as well. There's a bunch of them, Wellness FX is a great one, it's kind of expensive. But you get all your blood work on everything, it's a good place to start. The Disc Profile is awesome. If you're in my inner circle, we're giving everyone in the inner circle the Disc Profile and Mandy is our, besides me, the other coach in the inner circle. She's coaching everyone through which has been amazing. But start finding those things so you can start getting baselines of where you're at on everything. It's going to be a fun project. So there you guys go, operation growth has now officially begun in my life. And it's now, you've got permission to start on your life as well. I hope that helps you guys. I'm at the office, I'm going to go have my meeting. Talk to you guys soon, bye everybody.

And what two major things Russell is going to do with his team to help him grow in his business and in his personal life. So listen below to find out how Russell plans to continue to grow and contribute in his life. ---Transcript--- Good morning everybody, this is Russell and I’m so excited to be hanging out with you guys today. Can Marijuana Damage Your Brain and Liver? Mr. Mary Jane says: Ben, you've been talking about marijuana a lot lately and he was reading a book on ayurvedic medicine which mentioned how marijuana "is toxic to the liver and brain cells, however if one smokes a pinch of calamus root powder with marijuana this herb with neutralize the toxic effects of the drug". What do you think? Does this have any merit? In my response, I recommend: - - The Best Way To Train For MMA Fitness Richard says: He is a boxing and MMA coach, and is wondering if you consider fight sports to be endurance events. Both only go for a few minutes (no where near an Ironman) but training can be long grinding days, plus you also have to take punches and control your emotions. What do you think is the best way to train fighters? The same way you would train for triathlon? They need long grinding workouts with repetition but they also need the explosive power. In my response, I recommend: - Should You Avoid Iodine? Rob says: He's just sitting down to eat some post workout corn-on-the-cob and noticed that his sea salt does not contain iodine. This made him wonder how much iodine a person actually needs on a daily basis, why, and where are the best places to get iodine... since it's not in his sea salt. In my response, I recommend: - - Benefits Of Fasted Workouts Erica says: In the morning she usually wake at 7:00, has a green smoothie at 9:00 and works out at 10:30. Do you think it would benefit her to switch the order of the workout and the smoothie so she is working out fasted and fueling afterwards? What would be the benefit or drawback?

Does Ketosis Work For Crossfit? Anthony says: He knows you have talked a ton about Ketosis for endurance events but now that you are skewing more towards the shorter high intensity type of training for OCR would you still recommend it (he does Crossfit). He understands how ketosis is advantageous for the 60-70% intensity range but with higher intensity and explosive workouts, don't you need more carbs. Alex asks @ 00:27:47 What is the best way to use Bitter Melon in terms of dosage, usage and should take it by itself? ~ In my response, I refer to MPX100. Allison asks @ 00:33:31 She began taking TianChi after hearing about it on the podcast in October of 2012 and took it pretty consistently until about the beginning of January 2013. After coming off it she has experienced unreal hormonal swings, PMS that is amplified, and two full periods this month separated by only a week. She's wondering if something in the adaptogenic herbs may have caused her hormones to go haywire when I stopped taking them. She is currently trying to get pregnant so this weirdness is kind of putting a kink in the works. She's been to an ob/gyn and had a pelvic exam and other tests and found nothing. ~ In my response, I refer to TianChi. Anonymous asks @ 00:39:43 He is 38 years old and races 70.3s and yet he doesn't have the libido he once had. He knows he isn't 19 any more but still… he would like to try some natural remedies. He tried Vit D3 (life extension) and some Cod Liver Oil (nordic naturals) and the Horny Goat Weed extract (NOW). Are those good brands? Is there a more pure form to get Horny Goat Weed? Do you think it even works? ~ In my response I list: 1. Oysters 2. Cold Showers 3. Any nitric oxide, citrulline or arginine blend, or dark chocolate/red wine. 4. Does it mean that he has more testosterone in his body? Should he be worried about it converting to estrogen? Carlos asks @ 01:08:15 He is experiencing bad allergies this year from pollen. Is wondering if you have any recommendations for natural products or vitamins that will help with allergies. ~ In my response, I mention www.naet.com, Sinus Buster, and this post on asthma that I did with Dr. David Minkoff. Audio Question from Clay @ 00:26:17 Has some "lung crud", sinus headache and a cold. Wants to know if there is anything other than antibiotics that he can use to cure this? Probiotics? ~ In my response to Clay, I mention this article and also my article on how to mitigate effects of antibiotics. Audio Question from Scott @ 00:37:01 Has tested his IGF1 and Testosterone levels, first thing in the morning in a fasted state about 8 weeks apart. Both tests showed low free testosterone levels (3.9 and 4.7) and high IGF1 levels (332 and 300). He is wondering how you would interpret these results (he has his own ideas too). He's 29 years old and is training for a power lifting competition. ~ In my response to Scott, I mention private consultations with me, at pacificfit.net. I also reference my podcast with Christopher Walker on how to balance your hormones and also lab testing via WellnessFX. Audio Question from a full-time driver @ 00:43:48 Has been spending a lot of time in his car (2 to 4 hours per day) and has noticed that his running form is getting bad and his knees are hurting (especially on the left). Is there anything he can do or anything he can use to minimize the damage of being in the car so long everyday? ~ In my response I mention this set of stretches. Audio Question from Vince @ 00:49:50 Has gone low-carb (30 to 50 grams per day) and is doing less cycling and more weight lifting (off-season). He currently feels great, doesn't feel hungry, has lots of energy in the gym and on the bike. Is this the type of eating that he can maintain when the cycling season starts up again? He is concerned that a low-carb diet is good for the off-season but will not give enough "burst of energy" fuel that is necessary for a crit. ~ In my response to Vince, I recommend my Low Carb Fueling Package at www.lowcarbtriathlete.com. Audio Question from Chris @ 00:56:56 His girlfriend has been experiencing increasingly severe symptoms associated with her period since she moved to Utah for school. She is 19 years old, she's been living at 5000 feet elevation and didn't seem to get as bad symptoms when she was at 1000 feet. She gets emotional, bloated, lack of appetite, back pain and stomach cramps/pain (to the point of not wanting to get out of bed). She's not an athlete but is healthy and eats ok. Could this be happening because she is getting older, because of the elevation change, or the climate, or something else? Is there a holistic approach she could take to help with this? ~ In my response to Chris, I mention Chinese Adaptogenic Herbs like TianChi. Audio Question from Troy @ 01:06:40 Is thinking of getting a Personal Trainer certification. Has done the NASM and wasn't very impressed. The one called Nation Personal Training Institute. It is a 6 month course, 5 days a week, 9 to 5. It is about $6000 (pricey?). Seems comprehensive and is a classroom format rather than online or by mail. What would you recommend or suggest? ~ In my response to Troy, I recommend my mentorship at www.SuperhumanCoach.com. Audio Question from Keerthi @ 01:13:49 Has been following a high fat diet for a while now but he has noticed that when he eats a lot of healthy fats (like coconut oil or grass fed butter) he sometimes gets an irritation in his throat. Do you know why this might happen and what would be a possible remedy? ~ In my response to Keerthi, I recommend including lipase, or digestive enzymes like Caprazymes. Should he avoid mushrooms and other fungi? What else should he avoid? What supplements might help? In my response to Keith, I recommend: -Metal Free Heavy Metal Detoxification Formula combined with Body Detox - follow use instructions for these exactly as on bottles. Dr. David Minkoff recommends to take Metal Free in the morning and Body Detox before bed. -6mg of iodine per day -1-2 servings edible clay per day (i.e. Edible Earth) -Oral magnesium in supplemental form (around 400-600mg/day, or until you get loose stool) -A high quality greens supplement -Full spectrum antioxidant -High quality omega 3 + Vitamin D ad Vitamin A supplementation (i.e. cod liver oil). Recommend SuperEssentials and TwinLab Cod Liver Oil. Finally, I highly recommend Dr. Mark Sircus's book: "Nuclear Toxicity Syndrome". ------------------------------------------------------ Toni asks: Husband is an endurance bike racer who is not sleeping well and is constantly fatigued, but doctors won't acknowledge it as real. What can help? In my response to Toni, I reference this article I did on adrenal fatigue: What To Do When You're Overtrained, including this anecdote: 1. Frequent Cold Exposure – Cold immersion can lower inflammation, and markers of inflammatory damage such as CRP or interleukin – which allows the body to bounce back faster from an overreached state. In my case, I have access to a very cold river that currently runs at about 40-45 degrees Farenheit, so when I saw those HRV scores begin to drop, I began full body immersion for 20-30 minutes a day, 1-2x/day (you can also achieve this in an ice bath if you live in a warmer climate without access to a cold body of water). I combined with wearing 110% compression tights and shirt filled with ice sleeves while I was sitting at home working. 2. Adaptogenic Herbs – I use a Chinese Adaptogenic Herb complex called Tian Chi, and I began to double dose on an empty stomach 1-2x/day, in mid-morning and/or mid-afternoon. The ingredients of Tian Chi include compounds that help to relieve adrenal gland stress and support proper adrenal function, including ashwaganda, eleuthero, epemedium and gotu kola. These type of compounds are incredibly effective at restoring function to your adrenal glands when you've been asking yourself to churn out adrenaline, epinephrine, norepinephrine, etc. with day after day of hard training. 3. Deep Sleep – During deep sleep, your body releases large amounts of growth hormone for repair and recovery, and initiates cellular turnover that can speed up removal of “junk” from a taxed musculoskeletal system. Once I saw my HRV score drop, my goal was to get myself into a deep sleep phase as quickly as possible, and I did this by using an Earthpulse Sleep Machine device to activate my “deep sleep” Delta brain waves, along with sleeping in a very dark room, using 500mg magnesium before bed, and making sure to use my blue-light blocking glasses at any point after 4pm in the afternoon. 4. Anti-Inflammatory Diet – Because they result in a net acidic load when you metabolize them, pro-inflammatory foods will increase inflammation and increase your pain from the inflammation. These include processed meats, foods high in omega 6 fatty acids like roasted seeds and nuts, pastries and cereals, starches, and even nightshade plants like regular potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplant. When you're injured or overtrained and looking for every available advantage, you should instead prioritize foods with natural anti-inflammatory properties, like dark-skinned fruits and vegetables (pomegranates, cherries, blueberries, plums, artichokes, spinach and broccoli are excellent), high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids (cold-water fish, cod liver oil, fish oil, etc.) and natural herbal anti-inflammatories like turmeric, curcumin, garlic and ginger, or something like Capraflex, which has all that. Jeff asks: How can you recover from a lateral meniscus removal? He has some hyaluronic acid and capraflex. In my response to Jeff, I mention this free meniscus repair rehab program pdf. ------------------------------------------------------ Jenna asks: Are there any athletic or performance benefits from vibration plates? Can you lose weight from just standing on it? In my response, I mention Power Plate vibration platforms. ------------------------------------------------------ Michael asks: What does Ben think of the "Elevation Training Mask", specifically the 2.0 version? In my response, I mention the Elevation Training Mask. What would be a good diet and exercise plan? In my response to Panka, I mention my book "Get Fit Guy's Guide To Achieving Your Ideal Body" at http://www.GetFitGuy.com ------------------------------------------------------ Seth asks: How to interpret your training logs and use them to get better? In my response to Seth, I mention Sami Inkinen's "Incurable Data Geek" and Joe Friel's Training blog. Mention things like cardiac drift, average power/speed, RPE, recovery time what I personally do: heart rate variability, how fast I ride to the YMCA, how fast I can do 10x30s sprint on treadmill, how fast I can swim 10x100 ------------------------------------------------------ Craig wants to know how to maintain a high run cadence. ------------------------------------------------------ Thomas wants to know if you could increase your risk of heart attack from cold exposure since when you train in the cold the cold weather on your torso speeds your heart rate up but cold on your face slows your heart rate down. He wants to know if he should cover his hands and feet. ------------------------------------------------------ 7 year old Lucas wants to know what he should eat before his hockey games. In my response, I mention my article: 5 Ways That Workout Nutrition Should be Different For Young People and Children ------------------------------------------------------ Joe wants to know why his body temperature is down to 92.6 degrees. Also, if you're in the first two weeks of your cycle your temperature will be about 1/2 degree lower than the second half. Even malnutrition and starvation can cause your body temperature to be low, but it's probably because the body down regulates the thyroid so you'll live longer. In my response to Joe, I mention WellnessFX or DirectLabs for getting these kind of tests done, and also recommend a Spectracell analysis. Audio Question from Fred @ 00:14:24 Heard a lot about wraps for weight loss and is wondering what your take is? He thinks hard work and exercise are the way to go but wants to know what you think. Audio Question from Jolene @ 00:18:06 She has a torn abdominus rectus from two consecutive pregnancies and quite a large diastasis recti (4 fingers wide) and is wondering if she can train it back into position so it can heal or if it needs surgery. She is having trouble training her core properly and is having back, hip and knee problems as a result. ~ In my response I mention these ab exercises for pregnancy. I also mention the Cassandra Forsythe interview and the Tupler Technique. Audio Question from Rick @ 00:26:25 His girlfriend would like to drop 15lbs but has hypothyroidism and take 88mg of synthroid per day. She is into Crossfit 3 times a week. Beside managing her caloric intake, is there something else she could do, despite her thyroid issue? ~ In my response, I talk about my personal thyroid measurement with WellnessFX. I also mention this episode with Roby Mitchell (AKA Dr. Fitt). I recommend this book: "Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms?  When My Lab Tests Are Normal: A Revolutionary Breakthrough In Understanding Hashimoto's Disease and Hypothyroidism" and I mention my gut healing recommendations. Audio Question from Bill @ 00:44:06 Needs some help getting his endurance back. He had a bike crash and hurt his shoulder. He spent 4 months on the sofa after surgery. He just started training again but his endurance is poor. Interestingly his heart rate is staying down between the LT and AT for an entire run. How can he get his mojo back? Also what % of Body Fat do you like to have during taper week before an IM or 70.3? ~ In my response to Bill, I mention: Cordyceps, Fish Oil, and Floradix. Kayla asks @ 00:57:19 I'm a 5'3 116lb female who has been going to the gym for the past 6 months attempting to gain muscle. I've made good progress so far, however I recently started experiencing pain in both of my forearms. I saw my doctor who diagnosed me with "forearm shin splints" and have been taking naproxen and resting my arms. I've been instructed to not lift weights for a minimum of 2 weeks, probably more (depending on how the arms heal). I'm worried about losing all the muscle I've worked so hard for. Without the use of my forearms, I can't seem to work my bi's, tri's, shoulders, or back. Do you have any suggestions for keep my upper body in shape and healing faster? ~ In my answer I reference the FIT10. Richard asks @ 01:04:43 I have been looking into trying out a Hyperbaric Treatment for no other reason than just my well-being and recovery! I like the idea of getting higher oxygen levels to help cell repair and general healing. I'm 25yr old male was has been known to over-train just due to fact I feel like I can keep going. Can the Hyperbaric chamber sessions allow me to train harder and more often? ~ In my response I talk about: the book "The Oxygen Revolution: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: The Groundbreaking New Treatment for Stroke, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Arthritis, Autism, Learning Disabilities and More", the study Acute and Chronic Effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy on Blood Circulation of Human Muscle and Tendon in Vivo and the Directory of Hyperbaric Oxygen Providers in the USA. I also mentioned the studies at www.netnet.net/mums and 1800woundcenter.org. Dave asks @ 00:17:20 I am curious why your concerns about dairy do not include yogurt? I am not suggesting that they should, I'm just curious why yogurt is not a concern. Second, a fellow triathlete podcaster that I listen to is a big fan of yours but very anti olive oil. I have not heard his reasons so I am curious what you they could be. Audio Question from Drew @ 00:31:17 Can you recommend a bed mattress that is good for back pain? She tore her trapezius and fractured her tailbone (among other injuries) quite a while ago. She isn't a "sissy" but she doesn't sleep well and it is really starting to get to her. She also has a dowager's hump (hyperkyphosis) from working at a desk. Do you have any suggestions for treating that and correcting her posture? ~ In my response, I talk about the Sleep Number mattress and Brock mentions Intelliskin. Audio Question from Robert @ 00:36:40 Do you think a breath training device (like the Powerlung) would be beneficial for an older age grouper late to the game? ~ In my response, I talk about the Powerlung and mentions this podcast episode. Audio Question from Elisabeth @ 00:40:16 Looking for tips to deal with raynaud's syndrome on the bike (and in general). It acts up when her feet get cold on the bike she and sometimes just can't seem to warm them up. She uses neoprene foot warmers but it doesn't always do the trick. ~ In my response, I talk about the GSR2 Biofeedback Device and the EMWave2. I also talk about SuperEssentials Fish Oil and recommend Omega 3-Omega 6 Fatty Acid ratios, plus testing with a company like WellnessFX. Brock mentions Heat Factory Hand Warmers. Audio Question from Ty @ 00:47:09 He wants to know at what point there is a benefit in supplementing with branch chain amino acids. What threshold, in intensity and duration, should he set to beginning supplementing. ~ In my response, I talk about Recoverease  and also Master Amino Pattern. Lance asks @ 00:51:41 I have a question about how best to use Master Amino Pattern and Wobenzyme Proteolytic Enzymes to help me recover between consecutive weekends of long racing. I understand to use MAP before and after but the timing confuses me. Since the enzymes need to be on an empty stomach, and post race calories are important too, what is the best way to combine everything? Also should I continue in the following days? If so, how much and when? I'd also like to ask about tart cherry juice? Is there something special about tart cherries, or is the same effect in other juices like pomegranate, since it looks like the same active ingredient? ~ In my response, I talk about Tart Cherry Juice. Josh asks @ 00:57:59 In your blog post "The Hawaii Comedy of Errors" you mentioned that you had a bout with saddle sores. I too have had an ongoing battle with them ever since I started cycling. I've tried many different saddles and nothing has been especially wonderful. My saddle is slightly pivoted downward and I have been properly fitted. Tri-shorts make it worse than cycling bibs and, earlier in the season, they were so bad that I nearly had a full-blown infection. I've tried EVERY cream/natural remedy with no relief. I was thinking of getting an Adamo Road saddle, but wanted to get your opinion on what to do first. ~ In my response, I talk about Adamo ISM saddle, Hammer Nutrition Seat Saver (use 15% discount code 80244), SkinSake Ointment, and Tea Tree Oil. Audio Question from Carlos @ 00:19:35 After every workout he gets a bad odour on his clothes and skin (after 45min-1hr run). ~ In my response to Carlos, I mention Dr. Brommer's soap,  oil of oregano,  Hammer Nutrition Cool Feet (use 15% referral discount code 80244). Audio Question from Kevin @ 00:36:09 Has been trying to change his diet (maybe ketogenic?) to beat blood pressure and cholesterol issues that run in the family. His BP is a little high but not bad (borderline). He would like to try to get it down without taking meds. ~ In my response, I mention NutraRev as a Coenzyme Q10 source. Also fish oil, Minerals, Azumio Stress Doctor and Stress Check apps, and WellnessFX. Audio Question from a helpful husband @ 00:49:26 He is helping his wife train for a "bucket list" marathon. He wants to know if she should do a 20 mile long run (LSD) even if it will take her longer that 3 hours (she runs at a 15:00/mile pace). Matt says @ 00:54:57 I recently attempted a 100 mile run and had to drop out halfway because of quad cramping and blisters. I ran 50 miles in 8:36, had good energy during the race and had even splits for the two 25 mile loops. In fact I was in first place in the 100 and would have had third if I hadn't dropped out. Was it the lack of calories (I only had about 200 during the entire race)? When I tired to run faster, or when I had to step up on a rock, both quads would seize up for several minutes. This started during the last 10-15 miles of the run. I want to add that none of this would be possible if I wasn't keto adapted. ~ In my response, I talk about taurine. Audio Question from AJ: He is a competitive cyclist and mountain bike racer. His weakness is his gut. Doesn't do well on solid foods and has switched to liquid calories. Has trouble with diarrhea especially when he is travelling. Has diarrhea a few times a week. Looking for causes and solutions. ~ In my response to AJ, I mention the Genova Parasitology test. I also mention the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, and the free Specific Carbohydrate Diet e-book. Audio Question from Carlos: Question about HIIT. Most programs says you should go high for 30 and low for 30 seconds. Would it better to use a Heart Rate Monitor and go hard/fast until I hit 180 bpm and then go slow until I hit 140bpm? ~ In my response to Carlos, I mention the complete guide to interval training article. Audio Question from Chris: In the past Ben has mentioned playing tennis. He is curious - what are the exercises and training routines that you have found to help with knee health and joint health when it comes to tennis? What training tips would you have? ~ In my response to Chris, I mention Capraflex. Audio Question from Jennifer: She has dropped grains out of her diet (except for quinoa). Does plenty of exercise and eats a lot of fruits and vegetables. She's found that she is really tired since changing her diet. What can she add to her diet to add energy but maintain the comfortable weight that she is at. ~ In my response, I mention lab testing with WellnessFX. Audio Question from Mike: Has a problem with his left shoulder. He's working out 3-5 times a week, doing intervals and weights. Lifting moderately heavy. Had a partial rotator cuff tear a few years ago. Rested it for 3 weeks and it healed up. Now every day that he lifts he gets pain the next day. What can he do to help with that? ~ In my response, I recommend this free report on Muscle Imbalances Revealed. I also mention the 7 minute Rotator Cuff Solution. Erin asks: Going for a run of 20 minutes or more often causes me to develop an aura migraine. Initially I get the bright spots in my eyes and if I continue running it will progress into the full-blown migraine. It only ever happens when I run in the morning and is made substantially worse when the weather is hot. Interestingly, I do a lot of other indoor sports and this doesn't happen during those training sessions, regardless of intensity. Can you suggest why this might be happening and what I can do to avoid it? ~ In my response to Erin, I reference my How to Get Rid of Migraine Headaches podcast with Ted Morter. Longbow asks: You mentioned in one of the earlier podcasts that recent research showed lifting lighter weights with more reps has the same result as the heavier weight with fewer reps. If the benefit is the same and the goal is "lift to failure", wouldn't it be better to lift lighter weights so the chance of getting injured is smaller? ~ In my response to Longbow, I mention this podcast that I did with Art De Vany. Also this podcast with Cary Nosler. Craig asks: I've heard a couple of things about "block training" (emphasizing one triathlon discipline at a time). What is your opinion on this? Dan asks: I was wondering what you thought about pedal spacers to widen the "Q-Factor". Is there a way to figure out what is the right pedal width for your body (besides getting a custom-fit)? Does hip-width have some correlation to foot-width? Jill asks: My monthly cycle can bring on some extreme fatigue with me unable to wake up to an alarm to exercise. It can be extremely frustrating and cuts down on the time I have to put in long sessions on the bike. As my exercise time drops off during this week every month, I feel I lose fitness and it seems to take a week or two to get back into a good groove, and then it happens again! Do you have any suggestions of herbs, supplements, etc that I could use to combat this fatigue? Is going on birth control pills the best option? ~ In my response to Jill, I mention Katylynn Wlesch's 21K Trail Run. I also mention my recommendations for estrogen dominance.
