Economists are very confident in a 50-point cut to the Official Cash Rate today. The Reserve Bank is expected to drop the OCR from its current 4.25% to 3.75% at 2pm. That would follow a 50-basis point cut at the bank's last meeting in November. ANZ Chief Economist Sharon Zollner told Andrew Dickens the data has fallen in line with the Reserve Bank's forecasts. He says it's reasonable for the Reserve Bank to expect domestic inflation will continue to fall, and while they don't want to cause unnecessary pain, they also don't want inflation to leave the bottom of the band. Zollner says that's why they're comfortable cutting now. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week I re-air Part II of an interview I did with Fr. Hans Zollner, a German Jesuit, theologian and psychologist, because his work is necessary to understanding an important event that took place in Rome this week. In 2012, Fr. Zollner founded and was president of the Center for Child Protection at Rome's Jesuit-run Gregorian University. In April 2021, that became the Institute of Anthropology, Interdisciplinary Studies on Human Dignity and Care that he now directs. Fast forward to 2024. The Gregorian University annually holds what is known as the ISC, International Safeguarding Conference, sponsored by the Institute of Anthropology that Fr. Zollner founded. The 2024 conference, June 18 to 21, focused on Safeguarding and Disability, aiming at an approach that puts people with disabilities at the center of discussions,. In view of that conference, I felt it important to re-air my interview with Fr. Zollner about the work of the Institute of Anthropology.

The ANZ Bank has changed its official cash rate (OCR) forecast, now expecting the first cut to arrive in February, rather than May 2025. Meanwhile, The European Central Bank has cut interest rates for the first time in five years, and the Bank of Canada has become the first G7 nation to cut rates. ANZ Chief Economist Sharon Zollner told Heather du Plessis-Allan “Essentially the Reserve bank's mandate is to get inflation under control.” Zollner said “It's the mix of inflation that matters – oil price is the biggie, which they can't influence. But homegrown inflation is very slow to fall.” LISTEN ABOVE. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A daily news briefing from Catholic News Agency, powered by artificial intelligence. Ask your smart speaker to play “Catholic News,” or listen every morning wherever you get podcasts. www.catholicnewsagency.com - Pope Francis will be hospitalized for “some days” after being diagnosed with a respiratory infection, the Vatican said Wednesday. “In recent days Pope Francis has complained of some difficulty breathing and this afternoon went to [Gemelli Hospital] to carry out some medical tests. The results of these tests showed a respiratory infection (a COVID-19 infection was excluded) that will require some days of opportune medical treatment in the hospital,” Holy See Press Office Director Matteo Bruni said Wednesday evening. “Pope Francis is touched by the many messages he received and expresses his gratitude for the closeness and prayer,” Bruni added. Bruni had issued a brief statement earlier in the afternoon of March 29 to say the pope was at Gemelli Hospital “for some previously scheduled checkups.” Mid-day on Thursday, the Vatican spokesman said the pope rested well overnight. “This morning after having breakfast, [Pope Francis] read some newspapers and resumed work,” Bruni added. “Before lunch, he went to the chapel of his private apartment, where he spent time in prayer and received the Eucharist.” Stay tuned to catholic news agency dot com for the latest on Pope Francis' health. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253973/pope-francis-hospitalized-with-a-respiratory-infection-vatican-says https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253976/pope-francis-rested-well-doing-well-after-night-in-hospital-vatican-says Jesuit Father Hans Zollner, an internationally-renowned expert in protecting children and vulnerable adults from clerical sex abuse, has resigned from his position on the Vatican's safeguarding commission. The move was announced by the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors on Wednesday. The 56-year-old Zollner, a founding member of the commission, said in a statement March 29 that “structural and practical issues” within the commission had led him “to disassociate” from it. In his statement, Zollner said he has “grown increasingly concerned” with the Vatican's safeguarding commission and its lack of “responsibility, compliance, accountability, and transparency.” He also said there was a lack of transparency about decisions in the commission, including problems with “insufficient information and vague communication” with members on how particular decisions were made. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253968/abuse-expert-leaves-vatican-safeguarding-commission-over-structural-and-practical-issues Forensic experts have identified a body found shot to death March 22 in Sinaloa state, Mexico, as that of José Noriel Portillo, alias “El Chueco,” who allegedly murdered two Jesuit priests and laymen last year. On June 22, 2022, in the Sierra Tarahumara, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, two laymen and Jesuit priests Javier Campos Morales and Joaquín César Mora Salazar were murdered in a church in the town of Cerocahui. Father Luis Gerardo Moro Madrid, superior of the Society of Jesus in Mexico, pointed out that the alleged murder of Portillo, who was allegedly responsible for the death of two Jesuit priests, is not a reason to celebrate, because it does not represent an act of justice but of barbarism and the failure of institutions. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253974/jesuits-in-mexico-issue-statement-on-the-death-of-alleged-murderer-of-two-priests Today the Church celebrates Blessed Jane of Toulouse, a 13th-century French woman known for her chastity and service to the poor, and who is considered to be the first member of the Carmelites' third order, which is open to laypeople. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/bl-jane-of-toulouse-193
(28:40) Külön megemlékezünk a Kaposvár hosszabbításos-dudaszós győzelméről a Szeged vendégeként. (34:35) Szükség lenne-e sportpszichológusra? (38:53) És végül megnézzük, mire érdemes figyelni a következő fordulóban. The pressure is coming on home owners.A new forecast from the country's largest bank, ANZ, suggests house prices will fall to 18-percent of the peaks reached last year. When recent wage inflation is taken into account, the fall will be about 27-percent. ANZ Chief Economist Sharon Zollner told Mike Hosking that at the same time, interest rates are likely to keep rising -- with the Official Cash Rate likely to be raised to five-percent by February. She says the OCR has been hiked spectacularly quickly, and the hikes may continue through next year. Zollner says the OCR is likely to fall once there's a global sideswipe. The June ANZ Business Outlook survey showed firms are increasingly pessimistic about the outlook for activity and profitability. However, it is the ongoing issues of inflation and an economy running at capacity causing most headaches, not recessionary forces. The data would do nothing to ease RBNZ concerns about the potential for a wage-price spiral developing, said ANZ chief economist Sharon Zollner.Activity indicators were weaker across the board, the survey found. But "expected profitability" was particularly dire, said Zollner."Investment intentions are slipping. Employment intentions are holding up pretty well, but with the profitability outlook so pessimistic, one does wonder for how long this can remain the case," she said.Business confidence fell 7 points to -63 per cent in June, while expected own activity fell 4 points to a net 9 per cent expecting lower activity ahead.Despite recession talk, supply-side issues continued to dominate the list of firms' biggest problems, consistent with inflation pressures that are still intense, Zollner said."Finding skilled labour remains the number one problem for firms, while non-wage cost inflation and high rates of pay continue to grow as problems."In the "other" category, 63 per cent of the text comments related to supply chain problems, she said."Traditional recession-type problems such as cashflow/debtors and low turnover remain well down the list, but interest rates are now warranting more of a mention, unsurprisingly.""In such a supply-constrained environment, it makes sense that inflation pressures are holding up even as the activity outlook slows," Zollner said."The RBNZ is unlikely to conclude it can slow the pace of hikes any time soon."While pricing intentions, cost expectations and inflation expectations were all slightly off their peaks, the RBNZ would be looking for meaningful indications of a slowdown in demand, she said."On the wage front, upward pressure is accelerating (outside of the agriculture sector) as regards both past and expected future wage settlements."While agricultural wage pressure was easing, it was still the highest across the economy.ANZ Bank chief economist Sharon Zollner. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
A line ball call for the Reserve Bank on the Official Cash Rate. The central bank has left the rate at 0.25 per cent because of the lockdown.ANZ chief economist Sharon Zollner says the Reserve Bank's made it clear if level four had come 24 hours later, the rate would have risen today. She says the Monetary Policy was all about resource pressures and inflation pressures and how it's time to reduce stimulus.Zollner says while the central bank didn't hike the OCR today, they said "for now".LISTEN ABOVE

Saving Our Environment — Reducing Business’s Impact on Nature Eckart Zollner (EDS Systems | Head of Business Development) Climate change is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges to threaten the existence of mankind and an issue that the SA Government is attempting to tackle head on. This is not just a governmental issue however - businesses need to come to the party too. The 5th June saw World Environment Day placing emphasis on restoration of nature, and how we can all lessen our carbon footprints - something we saw changing worldwide with the lockdowns in place during the global Covid pandemic. Eckart Zollner discusses the effects of greenhouse gases on nature and the environment and the importance of embracing saving our natural world. What does it take to bring a product, like a medical device, from prototype to production? For many companies, especially startups, figuring out manufacturing and supply chain issues is a big hurdle and there are often important considerations that are overlooked if they choose to go it alone. An Electronics Manufacturing Service (EMS) can be a helpful partner, but many companies may be reluctant to outsource manufacturing because of IP or other concerns. In this podcast, brought to us by Susan Glovsky, Principal at Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds, we meet and chat with Matthias Brem, Senior Global Program Manager (MSGP), Marketing & Sales at Zollner Elektronik AG. As a mechatronic systems service provider, Zollner supports clients across the entire value chain: from customer-specific development and design at the beginning of the product lifecycle through the sample and serial production, including supply chain management and materials management, and all the way to after-sales service. As an experienced Program Manager, Matthias knows first hand what it takes to bring a product to market. “Often a project fails not because of technical issues, but because of communication issues. A very high level of alignment and visibility for all people within the project is key to finishing a project and transferring over success.” If you're thinking about taking a medical device (or any hardware project) from prototype to production, have a listen!
