I continue to find and place value in Emotional Intelligence. I spent much of my life misperceiving social intelligence as emotional intelligence. I felt I could read and cater to other's emotions, but I was very ignorant and neglectful of my own emotions, which took a toll on myself, and others. In this episode I brought on an expert who cites that emotional intelligence as the single biggest predictor of our personal and professional success. Scott Allender is an expert in global leadership and organizational development. He regularly teaches Enneagram workshops and conducts emotional intelligence assessments for individuals and teams who seek to become more radically self-aware and cognizant of the impact they have on the world. Scott has a book titled, The Enneagram of Emotional Intelligence: A Journey to Personal and Professional Success. This is another installment in my continual pursuit of understanding and owning my own emotions. Truly Significant honors Chuck Garcia and his extraordinary Dad and Mother in this special edition of Success Made to Last.  Learn from this insightful conversation about the art of honoring your parents today and always...... for you are their legacy. Chuck is a mountain climber, financial guru, college professor, brother, friend, and much more. Here's what grabbed me........Success gets you to the summits of life...significance (from intellectual giants like his parents) teaches you why you made the climb.Chuck spent 25 years on Wall Street in leadership roles at Bloomberg, BlackRock, and Citadel before reinventing himself as a leadership coach, speaker, author, professor, and mountaineer.Today he is the founder of Climb Leadership International and teaches leadership communication at Columbia University. His work focuses on emotional intelligence, executive presence, communication, and resilience. What makes him especially interesting through the Truly Significant lens is that he doesn't teach leadership from theory alone. He uses mountain climbing as a metaphor for life, leadership, and transformation. He has climbed peaks including Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, and the Matterhorn, and often connects lessons from the mountains to moments of personal reinvention. His most recent book, The Moment That Defines Your Life, explores how emotional intelligence and Stoic philosophy help people navigate defining moments when careers, families, and identities are on the line. What is Truly Significant About Chuck Garcia? Not the titles. Not Wall Street. Not the mountains. What's significant is that Chuck's career suggests a central truth: Remember.....Success gets you to the summit. This week we are diving deep into emotional waves, and how they are one of the most influential yet misunderstood aspects of the Human Design system. We explore what it means to have emotional authority, how emotional waves impact our decision-making, relationships, and personal growth, and why emotional awareness is essential for everyone—not just those with a defined Solar Plexus. We discuss the difference between emotional highs, lows, and crashes, the unique experiences of emotional and non-emotional beings, and how emotional intelligence can transform the way we navigate life. Whether you have an emotional wave yourself or are learning to understand the emotions of those around you, this conversation offers practical insights for cultivating greater self-awareness, acceptance, and connection. Key Takeaways: Why emotional waves are a natural and consistent part of life for approximately 50% of the population—and why they aren't necessarily caused by external circumstances. How developing awareness of your emotional wave can help you make more aligned decisions and live in greater harmony with your Human Design. How emotional highs and lows differ from emotional crashes, and why understanding your specific wave and its triggers can help you navigate emotions more consciously. Why people without emotional authority still experience emotions deeply by amplifying the emotional energy of those around them. Why emotional intelligence isn't about suppressing feelings—it's about observing, accepting, and navigating them with greater awareness and responsibility. Free Mini-Courses! Most high performers don't get passed over because of what they know. They get passed over because of how they lead. In this episode, Dr. Bushra Khan makes the case that emotional intelligence isn't a soft skill, it's the strategic operating system every leader needs right now, especially as AI reshapes what work looks like. In this conversation, she breaks down: Why 'be more strategic' on a performance review usually means something specific and fixable. How influence actually works in the brain, and why title alone won't get people to go above and beyond. A concrete KPI approach for measuring emotional intelligence that most organizations aren't tracking yet. Timestamps [00:00:42] Emotional intelligence as the operating system for the future of work [00:02:30] Why 'soft skills' is out — and 'strategic skills' is in [00:03:10] How technical experts plateau: the real meaning of 'not strategic enough' [00:05:47] What 'be more strategic' is actually code for [00:07:26] Micromanagement as a symptom of not knowing how to teach others [00:09:09] The Peter Principle in action: when great individual contributors struggle to lead [00:12:19] Why title doesn't equal influence — and what builds rapport instead [00:16:55] Integrity in leadership: what it looks like when leaders actually walk the walk [00:17:15] How to give feedback that makes people better, not defensive [00:19:57] Measuring emotional intelligence: the KPI framework most orgs are missing Guest Bio: Dr. Bushra Khan is a founder, educator, and leadership expert with over 15 years of experience in organizational development and adult learning. With a doctorate in Educational Leadership, deep research in emotional intelligence alongside global experts, and the creation of a top-rated executive leadership program (clients include Google, Government of Canada, and ERCOT), her impact is both measurable and deeply human. Dr. Khan helps high-performing professionals strengthen their strategic capabilities, lead with integrity, turn their expertise into meaningful influence, and shape their leadership philosophy. She describes her work as a calm, compelling signal in the noise — a space where leaders come for clarity, rising professionals see possibility, and organizations recognize that emotional intelligence isn't a nice-to-have: it's the operating system for the future of work. Your phone is not just a gadget. It is a gateway into an economy built to capture attention, shape behavior, and keep you coming back. We bring on Jay Vidyarthi, mindfulness teacher, UX designer, technologist, and founder of Still Ape, to talk about the real world collision between contemplative practice and the modern attention economy. We start with a short, grounding practice of “doing nothing,” then zoom out to the strange fact that even this conversation is carried by microphones, data packets, and screens.Jay shares what it feels like to grow up loving video games and early internet creativity while also longing for silence, retreats, and depth. That tension shows up everywhere: tech culture can dismiss meditation, and mindfulness culture can quietly shame technology. We name the cost of that split, especially the guilt, shame, and fear that can creep into how we talk about screen time, social media, and even our kids' digital lives. Jay offers a more honest frame: you do not have to abandon technology to be mindful, but you do need a healthier relationship with your attention. From there, we dig into the incentives behind the systems, including how AI may be pushing us from an attention economy into an “attachment economy,” where people form bonds with bots and start confiding in them. Jay argues that mindfulness is becoming subversive, not because it is trendy, but because choosing where to place attention runs against powerful forces. He calls the response “attention activism,” a middle way that avoids both naive techno-optimism and tech doom, and invites teachers, designers, and everyday users to show up online with wisdom. If you care about mindfulness, digital wellness, humane technology, or building tech that supports human flourishing, this conversation will give you language and direction. Welcome back to the Freedom Factory! In Episode 90, your host Brandon Cunningham delivers a masterclass on the single most vital skill required for long-term entrepreneurial success: Emotional Intelligence (EI). Everywhere you look, people are obsessing over Artificial Intelligence (AI). But while technology is evolving rapidly, a computer program will never have the moral, spiritual, or emotional capacity to build true human trust—and trust is the ultimate currency of network marketing. If you want your organization to thrive, you must stop focusing exclusively on automated information and start paying attention to human behavior. In this episode, Brandon breaks down three pillars of high-EI leadership. First, he dives into reading a room—revealing how to sense confusion or pressure and why overpowering people with fake enthusiasm kills a deal. Through a classic, unforgettable "chewing gum" analogy, you will learn why giving prospects physical and mental space actually pulls them closer when the timing in their life inevitably changes. Second, Brandon delivers an essential shield against rejection. If you've been losing your confidence when prospects ghost, skip out on meetings, or drop out of your business, this conversation will completely reframe your mindset. Finally, you'll discover how to personalize your leadership style—because treating everyone the same ignores the individual needs of your builders, whether they require strict structure, verbal encouragement, or gentle accountability. Learn to control your mouth, read your team, protect your relationship circles, and run your business like a true professional.Ready to transform your mindset and achieve your goals? Plant the overarching vision, give your employees a "long leash" with plenty of freedom, and act as their ultimate cheerleader while they execute. ·         Acknowledge and Map Your Social Window: Recognize that even if you are an extrovert who thrives at conferences or in boardrooms, you likely have a "four-to-six-week window" before you need dedicated, solitary decompression time to reset. ·         Practice Extreme Self-Mercy: Forgive yourself for the tangents, the oversharing, and the inevitable administrative blemishes. Mark attributes true professional freedom to showing up as your authentic self without "shape-shifting" or masking. You can find GigSalad here: https://www.gigsalad.com/

Do you really win the negotiation if it means losing the relationship? You might think that successful negotiation means getting what you want here and now. But Stan Christensen says this short-sighted view is selling many negotiators short.Christensen is a professional negotiator, host of the All Things Negotiation podcast, and instructor of one of Stanford's most popular courses on the subject. His core insight: most negotiations happen with people you'll see again — which means success isn't about claiming victory, it's about building long-term, mutually beneficial relationships. “Most people think of negotiation statically,” he says. “It's you and I. There's a fixed pie. We're trying to get more for ourself and less for the other party. In reality, 95% of negotiations are gonna be with people you see again, so I define success as contributing to the value of the long-term relationship.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Christensen and host Matt Abrahams explore what it takes to negotiate well — from the power of listening and asking questions to managing emotions and communicating for collaboration. Whether you're negotiating a business deal or just deciding where to go to dinner, Christensen shows why every negotiation is an opportunity to strengthen the relationship.Episode Reference Links:Stan ChristensenAll Things Negotiation PodcastEp.15 The Art of Negotiation: How to Get More of What You WantEp.204 Tough Talks: Turn Tension Into Trust Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedIn Chapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:11) - What Is Negotiation?
