About the Guest: Amanda Stern is a coach, writer, speaker, and expert in the practice of journaling as a tool for self-discovery, emotional clarity, and intentional living. A lifelong learner and former librarian, Amanda has built a unique approach to helping others show up more fully in their lives. She blends soft skills like presence and empathy with a bold curiosity about how we grow, adapt, and serve others... while staying grounded in our own values.About the Episode: Amanda Stern returns to the podcast for a powerful, vulnerable conversation about what it really means to show up... for ourselves and others. In a world constantly pushing us to “find our lane,” Amanda challenges the idea that we must be one thing, do one thing, or stick to one path. Instead, she shares what happens when we lead with curiosity, practice presence, and honor the season we're in.From juggling multiple part-time roles to letting go of full-time journaling work, Amanda gets real about burnout, reinvention, and how self-reflection (through journaling or otherwise) helps us move forward with purpose. It's an episode full of insight, compassion, and practical wisdom for anyone navigating change, seeking meaning, or just trying to figure out what's next.Key Topics and ThemesWhat it means to be growth readyThe power of curiosity as a core valueShowing up for others vs. showing up for yourselfLetting go of control and embracing life's magicParenting lessons that translate to self-awarenessBuilding and releasing a passion projectLearning to value soft skills and intangible talentsCreating space for presence in a noisy worldHow journaling fosters personal transformationRedefining success in seasons of changeLinks and Resources MentionedAmanda Stern on LinkedInOriginal appearance on Career Competitor podcastGrowthReady Podcast archivesSend us a textSupport the showSign up for the monthly newsletter with Steve and GrowthReady (formerly known as Career Competitor) by providing your details here - Request to become part of our community Also be sure to give him and the show a follow on Instagram @coachstevemellor

Triggers and Activators Are More Than Buzzwords: We clarify that “triggers” (or “activators”) are events that alter our nervous system, often deeply rooted in past traumas, not just everyday disappointments. In this conversation, Jeff shares a personal story about how traumatic events from our past, big or small, can leave lasting marks on our nervous system and influence our emotions well into the future. Our discussion takes a thoughtful look at how emotional intelligence (EQ) can help us navigate and manage these triggers, not by erasing them, but by developing new ways of thinking and responding. We emphasize the importance of curiosity instead of judgment when reflecting on emotional responses and describe how, just like updating outdated computer software, we can “upgrade” our mindsets and beliefs to function better in today's world. This episode offers practical strategies, a few laughs, and a poignant reminder that while working through our triggers takes effort and sometimes outside help, the journey is well worth it, and none of us has to go it alone. Whether you're looking to understand your own emotional responses or support someone else, there's something here for everyone looking to grow on their EQ journey. Here are 3 key takeaways for you:Triggers = Old Neural Pathways: Our emotional triggers are often rooted in past events that created neural pathways in our brains—think of it as “old software” that keeps running unless we update it through intentional effort and curiosity.EQ is a Learnable Tool: Emotional intelligence isn't a magic fix, but it's a powerful, learnable skill to help us recognize, understand, and slowly reprogram our responses to triggers. This process requires work, but that's where real growth happens.Curiosity Over Judgment: The first step to transforming our experience is curiosity, not blame. By exploring past emotions without judgment, we can identify which beliefs still serve us, and which need updating.Key Moments00:00 Trauma's Impact on the Brain03:59 Navigating Triggers with Emotional Intelligence07:12 Building New Neuroconnections11:53 Curiosity in Emotional Reflection13:28 "Rewire Thoughts, Question Core Beliefs"18:12 "Creating Space for Energy Renewal"21:38 "Simple Complexity of Auto Repair"23:41 "The Insidious Influence of Wealth"26:40 "What Happens When the Wizard's Power Fades?"30:28 Thinking, Fast vs. SlowIn each episode, Jeff and Eric will talk about what emotional intelligence, or understanding your emotions, can do for you in your daily and work life. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”   Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“   Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“   Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

This week on The Shadows Podcast, we rewind to one of the most controversial acts in music history — Milli Vanilli — but through a very different lens: Emotional Intelligence. They were global superstars… until they weren't.Vilified for lip-syncing, stripped of awards, and mocked by the same public that once praised them. But here's the twist:Everything they were crucified for in the early ‘90s — carefully curated image, polished performance, filtered perfection — is celebrated in 2025.This episode explores the story behind the scandal and what it reveals about us today — our need to be seen, our addiction to image, and the pressure to perform.Along the way, we unpack 5 emotional intelligence takeaways from the Milli Vanilli legacy:Persona is easy to build — and hard to live inside.Authenticity feels risky when perfection is what sells.Shame thrives when truth has no place to land.We reward performance… until it breaks the illusion. You can't grow if you're trapped in someone else's voice. This episode isn't just about Milli Vanilli. It's about all of us.Because in the age of filters, likes, and “living your truth” — we're all still lip-syncing something.

For your communication to be credible, you can't just say it — you have to do it.Want people to believe what you say? According to Richard Edelman, the words you choose only get you halfway there. To build real trust, he says, you have to practice what you preach.“Action builds trust,” says Edelman. “If you don't do something, you can't talk about it.” As the president and CEO of Edelman, a leading global communications marketing firm, Edelman is widely recognized for his thought leadership in marketing and PR, especially on issues related to corporate trust, brand reputation, and social responsibility. His annual Edelman Trust Barometer reveals a sobering reality: "Two-thirds of people believe leaders lie to them now, business leaders, government leaders, even journalists." For people and organizations that want to rebuild trust, whether in a one-on-one relationship or with a customer base of millions, Edelman's advice is simple: "Decide, do, communicate."In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Edelman and host Matt Abrahams explore strategies for winning trust when traditional authority no longer guarantees it. In this inspiring episode of PivotMe, April revisits one of her most loved concepts: the Atta Folder. If you're new to it—think of it as your personal vault of encouragement. April dives into why it's not just for you, but how regularly building up others can radically transform your team, your relationships, and even your leadership legacy. Key Takeaways: What an Atta Folder Is: A digital or physical space where you store positive feedback, praise, and reminders of your value—for when you need it most. Why It Matters: We all have easy access to what's gone wrong. The Atta Folder is your curated reminder of what's gone right—fuel for your confidence. From Self to Team: Start by building your own Atta Folder, but don't stop there. Become the person who fills others' folders too. Ripple Effect of Recognition: When you consistently affirm those around you, you don't just boost their morale—you build loyalty, trust, and culture. How to Make It a Habit: April gives tactical steps for turning appreciation into a routine—one that boosts productivity, mental health, and connection. Quote from the Episode: “Evidence of what you've done wrong is always available—so you better intentionally collect what you've done right.” Actionable Items: Create (or update) your personal Atta Folder with screenshots, notes, and feedback. Give specific, sincere compliments to three people today—text, email, sticky note, whatever works. Build the habit: set reminders or create a ritual to affirm people regularly—at work, at home, or even in the pickup line. The Atta Folder isn't just feel-good fluff—it's a tool for resilience. And when you make a habit of building others up too, you create workplaces, homes, and communities where people feel seen, valued, and inspired. Start yours today—and go fill someone else's too. --------- Want to be part of a transformative experience for entrepreneurs and leaders?

“Very often, doctors try to suppress what they feel or don't even have the vocabulary to describe their emotions,” says Professor Alicja Galazka of the University of Silesia, an observation based on decades of work with physicians to enhance their emotional intelligence and resilience. Galazka, a psychotherapist, psychologist, lecturer and coach, believes this deficit is rooted in part in a lack of instruction in the internal and external psychological dimensions of being a medical provider. “There is not enough space created in medical school for teaching and training students about how to deal with their own stress and all of the skills connected to building relationships with patients,” she tells host Michael Carrese. Those same skills are also critical to working effectively as a member of a care team, which is an increasingly common arrangement in hospitals and clinics. Galazka employs simulations, dramatic role-playing, mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and other methods in her work with an eye on increasing the emotional agility and sensitivity of her trainees and clients. Tune in to this thoughtful episode of Raise the Line to hear Galazka's ideas on how to reshape medical training, why she is a proponent of narrative medicine, and the merits of embedding psychologists on care teams as a resource for both patients and providers. Mentioned in this episode:University of SilesiaInternational Association of Coaching Institutes If you like this podcast, please share it on your social channels. Think negotiation is just for boardrooms and big business deals? Think again.  Negotiation is everywhere, whether you're asking for a raise, buying a car, or convincing your kids to brush their teeth. And if you're doing it without empathy, you're leaving results (and relationships) on the table. Today's guest is Andres Lares, Managing Partner at the Shapiro Negotiations Institute. He's helped close multi-million dollar contracts – including a $184M MLB deal – and now trains leaders at Fortune 500 companies, pro sports teams, and global organizations on how to influence with intention. He's also the author of Persuade: The 4-Step Process to Influence People and Decisions. Negotiating with Emotional Intelligence Forget bluffing and bravado. Andres explains why emotional intelligence is the real power play in any negotiation – whether you're leading a team, buying a business, or parenting toddlers. You'll learn how to read the room, ask better questions, and use empathy to get what you want without damaging relationships. If you've ever felt like your message isn't landing, this conversation's for you. The 3P and PAID Frameworks You Can Use Right Now Most people wing the negotiation phase and wonder why their deals fall through. Andres shares two simple, repeatable frameworks you can plug into any negotiation today: 3P (Prepare, Probe, Propose) and PAID (Precedents, Alternatives, Interests, Deadlines). These tools help you think clearly, ask the right questions, and walk into every conversation with a strategy that puts you in control. Whether you're making your next hire or negotiating a partnership, this is your blueprint. Enjoy this episode with Andres Lares… Soundbytes 07:46 - 07:55 “So we're no longer teaching how important relationships are. We're just giving the methodology and skills in order to be able to balance the relationship building with the results.” 10:38 - 10:50 “You'll notice, for example, the other person talks much slower, or has a lot of questions early on, or is always asking for information in advance. Well, you start to pick up on those cues, and you start to realize, okay, this meeting's gonna be more effective if I send it in advance.” 17:00 - 17:10 “So if you don't think you're worth $75,000, you're probably not going to be able to make that ask from a salary perspective in a very convincing way, because you don't even believe it.” Quotes “Think about every scenario. You negotiate. You negotiate with your kids, you're negotiating salary.” “The phrase we always talk about is maximizing your objectives while satisfying the other side.” “There's a relationship component, and an emotional intelligence component, which really has to be at the forefront.” “I've never actually applied for a job I've got. It's been relationships in my network.” “People make decisions emotionally, and then they justify rationally.” Links mentioned in this episode: From Our Guest Website: https://www.shapironegotiations.com/  Connect with Andres Lares on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/andreslares/  Connect with brandiD Download our free guide to learn 16 crucial website updates that attract more leads and convert visitors into clients: https://thebrandid.com/website-tweaks/ Ready to elevate your digital presence with a powerful brand or website?  Contact us here: https://thebrandid.com/contact-form/
