Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common cause of female infertility. I'm joined by Dr. Felice Gersh, a leading OB-GYN treating patients with PCOS, to talk about the signs, symptoms, and long-term effects of the syndrome. Felice also shares some of the benefits of PCOS when you have it under control. You Need to Have Two of These Three Symptoms for a PCOS Diagnosis: Irregular menstrual cycle High levels of Androgens in a blood test An ultrasound showing tiny cysts in the ovaries About Dr. Felice Gersh Felice Gersh, M.D. is a multi-award-winning physician with dual board certifications in OB-GYN and Integrative Medicine. She is the founder and director of the Integrative Medical Group of Irvine, a practice that provides comprehensive health care for women by combining the best evidence-based therapies from conventional, naturopathic, and holistic medicine. She taught obstetrics and gynecology at Keck USC School of Medicine for 12 years as an Assistant Clinical Professor, where she received the highly coveted Outstanding Volunteer Clinical Faculty Award. She now serves as an Affiliate Faculty Member at the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine, through the University of Arizona School of Medicine, where she lectures and regularly grades the case presentations written by the Fellowship students for their final exams. Felice Gersh, M.D. is the bestselling author of PCOS SOS and the PCOS SOS Fertility Fast Track, and she has published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. She is a prolific lecturer and features in several films and documentary series, including The Real Skinny on Fat with Montel Williams and Fasting with Valter Longo, Ph.D. What Exactly is PCOS? Dr. Felice Gersh is a leading expert on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). She explains what PCOS is and how common it is among women, affecting between 6% - 12% of Americans. A woman must have two of three specific symptoms of PCOS in order to have a diagnosis. However, there are so many other symptoms related to the syndrome, including excess facial hair, weight gain, and acne outside of puberty. Felice says that one of the leading causes of the rise in PCOS is our reliance on plastics. Plastic, even BPA-free plastic, is toxic. It's an endocrine disrupter that impacts women of all ages. There is no safe amount of plastic at any point and the risks are higher during pregnancy. Society, Women, and PCOS Felice explains that PCOS existed in women throughout history. The excess testosterone had biological benefits, allowing for extra strength and stamina when needed. As society and culture changed, however, and the introduction of chemicals, this excess testosterone leads to health complications. Society's reliance on pollutants and toxins, from plastic bottles to chemical cleaning products, has a negative effect on women with PCOS. Felice shares why this is and how you can start reducing your exposure to these pollutants. PCOS increases your risk of a number of long-term health issues, such as diabetes, and Felice recommends seeking out treatment. She does not recommend the birth control pill for women with PCOS as it disrupts hormones more than they already are, simply masking a bigger problem. Do you have irregular periods? While it might feel nice not having to deal with a regular menstrual cycle, it is damaging for your health. Call the Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic today and schedule your first appointment at 319-363-0033. Quotes “There's no safe plastic. That's important to know. If it's made out of plastic, it's got something in it that is an endocrine disrupter and is toxic to you. There's nothing out of plastic that you can put any label on that is going to make it safe.” [11:55] “We now know, unfortunately, that BPA in pregnancy concentrates in the fetus. The amount that's circulating in the maternal blood is significantly less than what's actually in the fetus. It gave people the wrong idea. There's really no safe level of poison. It's just safer. Less is better than more. Not to mention the interactions with all the other endocrine disrupters in the body.” [12:17] “Estrogen is the glue that glues metabolic functions of the body to reproductive functions so it all works together to create one whole, healthy female. So she can safely reproduce and stay healthy.” [16:46] “Women with PCOS, unlike women with menopause, do have estrogen, they just don't have enough. Whereas with menopause, ultimately their ovaries make no estrogen, women with PCOS just don't make enough. But we have poor women with PCOS because they're now producing all this testosterone. Now, why would they make all this testosterone? It's because it's part of the assembly line to make estradiol, the estrogen from the ovaries. If the brain is saying, ‘I don't have enough estrogen,' it puts out the signal, called luteinizing hormone, via the pituitary gland, which triggers the ovary to make the precursor to estradiol: testosterone. Now, you're making all this luteinizing hormone, it goes high, and now you're making all this testosterone, but you have this block so you can't go down the assembly line smoothly to turn it into estradiol. So the brain keeps saying ‘more estrogen' which makes more LH, which makes more testosterone. It's a comedy but without the fun part. You have this assembly line and you can't get from this step to this step properly.” [19:08] “There are innate benefits of being PCOS. If we can take our bodies back to their origins, back to their original healthy state, without all these chemicals or toxic food, we can recreate the health and vibrant life of a woman with PCOS without all the negative stuff.” [25:03] “It doesn't make sense to give birth control pills to women with PCOS. We have to have better ways to deal with both contraception and all the manifestations of PCOS.” [38:46] In This Episode What PCOS is and what the symptoms are [5:15] How common PCOS is among women [9:15] How much plastic to use [11:00] The connection between pregnancy and BPA plastic [13:00] What the problem with excess testosterone is [20:15] How our modern society, pollutants, and toxins negatively affect women with PCOS [24:00] What PCOS increases your risk of [27:00] The problem with birth control pills [35:00] Links & Resources Use Code BERBERINE for 10% Off Berberine Support Get Your Free Gift: Menopause SOS by Dr. Felice Gersh Buy PCOS SOS Fertility Fast Track: The 12-week plan to optimize your chances of a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby by Dr. Felice Gersh Buy PCOS SOS: A Gynecologist's Lifeline To Naturally Restore Your Rhythms, Hormones, and Happiness by Dr. Felice Gersh Find Dr. Felice Gersh Online Follow Dr. Felice Gersh on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 52: Functional Gynecology With Dr. Tabatha Barber Episode 51: Brilliant Menopause Secrets With Dr. Kyrin Dunston Episode 50: Pelvic Floor Health With Dr. Betsy Greenleaf
Thank you Newsstand Studio at 1 Rockefeller Plaza for providing a place for me to record this episode for y’all! No more Brooklyn closet recording!!! Warning: This episode covers a sensitive topic. I want to give you the opportunity to pause and listen when you are alone or use some headphones if you’re around delicate ears. What does the Bible really say about sex? Is there a difference between sexual desire and desire for sex? How do I embrace my sexuality? What if I never meet someone? My journey has been imperfect, but the stumbles led me to where I am today. In this episode, I share my own stumbles in waiting for marriage, including the relationships that made me really question my decision to wait for marriage. If you want to hear more of that journey, check out My Breaking Point, an episode of the podcast where I read an excerpt from my book, Sexless in the City. After that breaking point, I decided to make my faith my own and find out why I believed what I believed. Here is Part I of what I discovered. (Part II coming next week.) Where + When does the Bible talk about Sex? The phrases “sexual immorality” or “fornification” popped up a lot in the New Testament and were always accompanied by the word “flee.” In 1 Corinthians 6:18, Paul tells the church to flee from porneia. In 1 Corinthians 7:1–2 Paul encourages the Corinth church to get married in order to avoid the temptation of porneia. This set of verses is often used during biblical teaching on abstinence. Porneia: blanket word that encapsulated a lot of different things: pedophilia, beastiality, adultery…in essence it’s this bundled term for any sexual activity outside of marriage. I can trust that if there is an invitation to flee from something it’s not because God hates sex or sexual activity…it’s because God has a more grand vision for whatever the thing is… “Make a decision that is not rooted in ‘should’ or external expectation or shame, but one that is connected to abundance, wholeness, and freedom.” - Kat Harris What Exactly is Sex? How do you define sex? Where did you come up with said definition? Is sex one act? Or a pool of experiences? What if you identify as LGBTQ+? Are the only people who can lose their virginity those who experience heterosexual attraction? What if your partner is experiencing impotence? What if you’re one of the 75% of females who only experience climax/orgasm through external stimulation? Does your deffinition of sex expand when you consider these questions? “I didn’t want to redefine sex because if I did, I might not be a virgin anymore.” - Kat Harris Next episode, I’ll unpack what I found in the Old Testament about God and sex. But for now... Reflection Questions Have you felt as a person of faith that your virginity is tied to your standing with God? How would you define sex? Why would you define it that way? Where did you come up with said definition? What stood out to you today? Pool of experiences vs. vertical race to a misguided goal. Sit with it. Process. Talk with your friends about it. I’m talking about focused peer observations. I know, I know, I just put a bunch of eduspeak (education verbiage) in that last phrase. Focused peer observations in a nutshell is getting out of your own classroom and seeing what others are doing. The great thing about this particular professional and personal development is that you can do it today, in your own school, during your prep period. Sidenote--in my administrative experience, there is not a single principal that I’ve worked with that DIDN’T support this type of PD. They have always been willing to pay for substitutes and even arrange the experiences if a teacher was interested. Having some level of understanding when it comes to macronutrients is essential if you want to make any kind of body composition changes. In this episode, I’m breaking down what macros are and why each is important for your body. Fat, protein, and carbohydrates all have a unique role in our overall health and yes, you need to eat a balance of all of them! Dr. Ali’s Food Classification System Always Foods: Eat as much as you want Sometimes Foods: Eat with moderation Never Foods: Eat sparingly or not at all The Chief Complaint: “I Don’t Understand Macros” If your only goal is to watch the number on the scale drop, macros probably won’t matter much to you. But if you’re interested in your changing your overall body composition, you’ll want to know how to fit your macros into your diet plan. What Exactly are Macros? In brief, macronutrients are the proteins, carbohydrates, and fats contained in the foods you eat. To have a healthy diet and make body composition changes, you need to have a certain portion of all three macros. Yep, even carbs. Protein is an essential macro for your muscle health. You’ll hear a lot of people saying that protein is the most important macro and your entire diet should revolve around it, but I don’t believe that’s true. Yes, it’s important and you need to eat enough to rebuild your muscle fibers, but it’s not the be-and-end-all of your diet. Similarly, many in the wellness industry vilify carbohydrates - something completely unnecessary. Carbs are another important macro you can’t afford to remove completely from your diet. In fact, carbs are vital if you want to lose weight while maintaining your muscle mass. How Much of Each Macro? There is a lot of buzz around fat, especially high-fat diets, such as the Keto diet. There are four types of fat: polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, saturated, and trans fats. Our diets should mainly comprise of poly- and monounsaturated fats, with minimal or no saturated fats, and no trans fats if you can help it. Fat is not created equal, so when you’re figuring out how many macros of fat you should be eating, I want you to keep that in mind. One way I like to do this is to have a list of “always” foods, “sometimes” foods, and “never” foods as this helps me keep track of my fat intake. There are quite a few ways to figure out what your macro breakdown is. You can go to a trainer, nutritionist, or website to help you figure out your macro split and how many calories you should eat for your body goals. But once you have these numbers, that usually involves some amount of calorie counting and weighing your food. I’ve developed my own method of tracking called Mindful Macros, which allows you to eyeball your food to know if you’re on target with your macros. Homework for Women Physicians Are you feeling more confident when it comes to your macronutrients? What are your favorite sources of protein? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode What protein does to our body composition [4:00] Why you need to eat carbohydrates if you want to lose weight and maintain your muscle mass [9:15] Why fat is absolutely vital to your body [16:30] How you should classify your foods [20:30] What the mindful macro way of eating looks like in your everyday life [23:00] Quotes “If you just want to lose bodyweight on the scale, you just want the number to go down, macronutrient calculation is not necessarily going to be the most important thing for you. The truth is, we just need to create a deficit.” [7:08] “It’s really thinking about how we can look at our food as our medicine and how it can fuel us versus this is a bad food.” [14:07] “When you are eating in a way that is fueling your body, you are eating. So to make a body composition change by understanding macros, know that all macros are welcome.” [15:54] Resources Mentioned Check out the full episode page here Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle: Transform Your Body Forever Using the Secrets of the Leanest People in the World Join the 5-Day New Year's Reset for Women Physicians Find Life Coaching for Women Physicians Online Follow Dr. Ali Novitsky on Facebook | Instagram Subscribe to Life Coaching for Women Physicians on Apple Podcasts Podcast production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 35: “I Can’t Have Food Freedom And Achieve Results” Episode 15: “I Am Exercising So Much And The Scale Is Going Up” Episode 12: "I am exercising so much and not seeing results"

Welcome back to the Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning podcast, episode #101, where we will review highlights from the past 100 episodes, that began in June 2019, with a behind the scenes lens, where we will take a look at the results created from this podcast, with the goal to inspire listeners to not just implement the ideas offered in each episode, but to think about what Horacio Sanchez from EPISODE #74 reminded me this week, of “the impact possible when you have an idea, nurture it, and watch it grow.” (Horacio Sanchez, EPISODE #74[i]).My name is Andrea Samadi, and if you haven’t met me yet, I’m a former educator who created this podcast to bring the most current neuroscience research, along with high performing experts who have risen to the top of their field, with specific strategies or ideas that you can implement immediately, whether you are an educator, or working in the corporate space, to take your results to the next level. Before we get to the episode, and the highlights learned from our guests, I want to share some of the unexpected results that have come as a byproduct of this podcast to perhaps light a spark under anyone who might be thinking of new ways to create brand awareness, or market their business in 2021. If you have been thinking of ways that you can extend your voice, message and reach, I highly recommend this mode of delivery. I also want to thank everyone who has supported us with this mission, come on as a guest, or downloaded an episode. We wouldn’t exist without the guests who offer their time, expertise, and strategies designed to help our listeners (in over 132 countries) who tune in on a regular basis and take the ideas offered to make an impact locally in their schools, communities, businesses and workplaces. I appreciate the feedback and messages received via social media and email and look forward to the next 100 episodes. As long as there is still growth, I will continue to produce new episodes. So Here are 3 Lessons Learned Looking Back at the 100 Episodes.LESSON 1: WHEN THERE’S A NEED, CAN YOU PUT A SPIN ON IT?I saw a serious need in the area of social and emotional learning that was being implemented in schools around the country and the world, and many educators didn’t know the best way to begin their implementation. I thought it would be a good place to gather “best practices” from experts around the world to offer their ideas that we could all learn from and apply to our own lives. But I knew I needed a bigger idea than just a podcast about social emotional learning in our schools, or emotional intelligence training in our workplaces. Too many people were already doing this. But not that many people were teaching the basics of practical neuroscience as it relates to this topic. The idea to combine neuroscience and social/emotional learning came with the thought that “success in life, and in college and career specifically, relies on student’s cognitive, (the core skills your brain uses to think, read, remember, and pay attention) social and interpersonal skills, (including the ability to navigate through social situations, resolve conflicts, show respect towards others, self-advocate and learn how to work on a team with others) and emotional development (including the ability to recognize and manage one’s emotions, demonstrate empathy for others and cope with stress).” In the corporate world, these skills aren’t new, but they are “newly important” and of high urgency to develop in our future generations. I’ve mentioned this quote before but think it’s important enough to repeat. A recent survey showed that 58 percent of employers say college graduates aren’t adequately prepared for today’s workforce, and those employers noted a particular gap in social and emotional skills. This is where our goal with this podcast began—to close this gap by exploring six social and emotional learning competencies as a springboard for discussion and tie in how an understanding of our brain can facilitate these strategies. AHA! MOMENT with LESSON 1That’s really how I took the need, put a spin on it, and came up with the title Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning in 2016 (3 years before launching the podcast) when I first began presenting on this topic. This title drew the session on the introduction to practical neuroscience to fill up with standing room only, at the YRDSB Quest Conference, in Toronto, Canada. This was my first presentation on the topic, and I knew at that moment that there was a serious interest in this topic.Back then, I was working one on one with one of the leading neuroscience researchers in the country, Mark Robert Waldman, and he had just finished writing his book Neurowisdom: The New Brain Science of Money, Happiness and Success[ii], When he shared his research with me, I saw how practical neuroscience could help people to gain a deeper understanding of how to create change from the brain level and impact their social and emotional thinking and began to write the outline for the vision I saw. I also found Dr. Lori Desautels this year, who is now a good friend and supporter of our work. This was how we took a need and put a spin on it. The rest is history.LESSON 2: THINK IMPACT vs INCOME: GIVER’S GAINAfter the first few months of releasing episodes, I heard from so many people who wanted to know “how did you launch this idea,” and asked about some best practices as they began thinking of ways to replicate the results that inevitably come when you put in consistent daily effort that turns into weekly and then monthly effort until it’s no longer effort, but what you do every day, habitually. If you want to know if launching a podcast would work for you, message me and I can send you some ideas on how to get started, but my first tip would be that you should pick a topic that you love, something that you won’t mind putting in the time and effort to learn more about, as this is what you will be immersed in on a daily basis.I heard a few times “How do you make money with a podcast?” and that’s a great question and why I wanted the second lesson to focus on the impact you will have, not the income. When you have enough listeners, you can earn money from sponsorships and ads, but the key is to use the podcast as a tool to drive people to your programs and services. Doors will start to open for you in ways that you never imagined. I heard Max Lugavere (an American television personality and health and wellness writer) talking about these incredible types of results at about the 2-year mark of his podcast on Dhru Purohit’s Broken Brain Podcast[iii]. The income will come once you put your focus on service and helping others to achieve their goals. This is exactly the same concept as writing a book. Most people who dream of writing a book, think that it will take off like the Harry Potter Series, and they will be set, riding off into the sunset as a millionaire. The truth is that most authors never sell more than a few hundred copies of their books, and for it to become a best seller, it should reach 10,000 copies sold in a week. This is easier to do when selling larger volumes (like to schools or organizations that want your book) but not easy at all to do when selling books one at a time, relying on Amazon as your distribution service. Authors know that books, like a podcast, are just a tool to get your message out there. Since I have released content both ways, I can say from experience that putting your best content out into the world, for FREE, with the idea of helping people, will yield better results than thinking of selling your ideas before anyone even knows who you are.AHA! MOMENT with LESSON 2This podcast was actually originally going to be an educational course, written for a publisher, but a turn of events had me decide to release this content in the form of a podcast for FREE, to be used by anyone who needed these resources. What was interesting is that when I put a focus on the IMPACT I wanted to create, rather than the INCOME it would give me back in return, something magical happened. Max Lugavere mentioned it happened for him at the 2-year mark, and I would have to say it happened for me around the 100th episode mark after just a year and seven months. The opportunities came disguised as consistent, daily, effort and work.LESSON 3: MASTER PROLIFIC QUALITY OUTPUT (PQO).I heard this statement for years, until this experience made me finally understand it. Brendon Burchard, the author of the book High Performance Habits talks about how “High performers have mastered the art of prolific quality output (PQO). They produce more high-quality output than their peers over the long term, and that is how they become more effective, better known, more remembered. They aim their attention and consistent efforts toward PQO and minimize any distractions (including opportunities) that would steal them away from their craft” (Burchard, 2017[iv]). Over the years, I never really understood what PQO meant. I listened to Brendon explain it a few times, and he would give the example of “Beyonce, who puts out hit after hit, or Ralph Lauren who creates luxury and designer product after product, or even Seth Godin who creates blog post after blog post.” There’s also the WakeUpIt’sDayOne Blog who explains PQO as it relates to athletes as “the type of things you typically don’t see an immediate reward with or have to repeat on a daily basis. Think about Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Lebron James, Tom Brady – the greatest athletes of all time. When you research them and understand how they became who they are today, all you ever read is that they focused on the fundamental things that improved their overall physical and mental skills[v]” their PQO—and I would add consistently, on a daily basis.AHA! MOMENT with LESSON 3Then I thought, what is my PQO? What is my output? What am I creating day in and day out? I’ve always been creating content, but it hit me after I had been producing episodes consistently for a year, that my PQO was the podcast episodes. I had created a certain standard with each episode that included the fact that each one had to be my best effort. If I wasn’t ready to interview someone, or had not researched enough, I would not produce the episode until it hit that standard.I also saw the importance of creating a video interview where I could edit in images and text to explain what the person I was interviewing was talking about. Many times, the concepts discussed are difficult to understand with words alone, so this became another standard. The final standard was that each interview had to be produced and released either that same day, or no longer than 2 days after. Waiting too long in production destroys the momentum created by the interview, so this meant many times that editing went into the night and researching early morning and weekends. Many content producers outsource their video or audio editing and production, but to date, each of the episodes have been produced and edited by yours truly. We will see what happens with this over the next 100 episodes. If you want to make an impact that goes beyond what your mind can imagine, a global impact, you need to have mastered Prolific Quality Output. Do YOU know what YOUR PQO is?Now that we have looked at some of the results created from this podcast, that really were unexpected, this episode will take a closer look at some lessons learned from the speakers along the way, as they relate to the 6 social and emotional competencies and how we tied in a connection to practical neuroscience for improved productivity and results. After each interview, I brainstormed the most important points learned with my husband, since he is also in the field of education. He always asks “what did you learn from this speaker” and there’s always 2-5 AHA points that definitely surprised me. I love making connections between the speakers and mapping out what each one says to other episodes. We really are connected, and what one person says, connects to what someone else will say in a later episode. I’m always looking for ways to take knowledge and make it applicable for anyone who is willing to apply it and use it.Just a note: Even though I had a written outline for the podcast, it did take a turn towards health and wellness close to the end of 2020, which I think was important and necessary. I will pull out examples used from our speakers in the following areas:EXPERTS WHO:Demonstrate Practical Neuroscience to Improve ResultsDemonstrate the Social and Emotional Learning Competencies (Mindset, Self-Regulation, Self-Awareness, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Decision-Making).Explain SEL in the EDUCATIONAL SETTINGAre Involved with PHYSICAL HEALTH, WELLNESS AND NUTRITIONLESSONS LEARNED FROM PRACTICAL NEUROSCIENCETHE POWER IN LEARNING ABOUT HOW OUR AMAZING BRAINS WORK: This area is where I spent the most time on the podcast, making sure we had a variety of experts, many who are well known with their books and research, to make a case for the importance of learning the basics of neuroscience to improve our productivity and results.Whether it was tips from 15-year-old Chloe Amen on how you can “Change Your Brain and Change Your Grades,” neuroscientist Friederike Fabritius on ways to “Achieve Peak Performance,” Dr. John Medina on his “Brain Rules” or Dr. Lori Desautels on the power of implementing neuroscience in today’s schools, the one person who tied everything together was Dr. Mary Helen Immordino-Yang with her research that shows “The Brain Basis for Integrated Social, Emotional, and Academic Development.” Her work shows how emotions and social relationships drive learning, bringing the entire podcast full circle as Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning. I saw the importance of these 2 topics, and Mary Helen can prove why they are so important, with her work at the University of SCA in her Center for Affective Neuroscience, Development, Learning and Education (CANDLE LAB). We will continue to bring more lessons that tie practical neuroscience to social, emotional and academic development in our future episodes as this really is the future of education. What was interesting to note in this area was that EPISODE #68: Neuroscience of Personal Change with Stephen R Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” was the #1 most downloaded EPISODE with over 1100 downloads, showing me that people want to make this connection linking neuroscience to success and of the POWER IN LEARNING ABOUT HOW OUR AMAZING BRAINS WORK.LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE 6 SEL COMPETENCIES SEL COMPETENCY: MINDSET“A great attitude does more than turn on the lights in our worlds, it seems to magically connect us to all sorts of serendipitous opportunities that were somehow absent before the change.” Earl Nightingale, author of Think and Grow Rich Frank Shankwitz, from EPISODE #40 has modeled what happens when you keep a good mental mindset, for the course of his life. So much so, that they made a movie about his life, called Wish Man, that is based on Frank’s life story (he was a motorcycle cop in Arizona who was haunted by the traumatic separation from his father when he was a boy. After surviving a near-fatal accident, he finds hope with a terminally ill boy, who reunites him with his father. To honor this boy, Frank creates the Make a Wish Foundation, and continues to live a life of honor every day. Nothing can tear this man down. Follow him on social media and you will see for yourself of the importance of a “great mental attitude.” SEL COMPETENCY: SELF-REGULATION with PERSISTENCE and PERSEVERANCE“Success has to do with deliberate practice. Practice must be focused, determined, and in the environment where there’s feedback.” Malcolm GladwellDr. John Dunlosky from EPISODE #37 started this topic off with his years of research that showed that “deliberate practice” was one of the most effective learning strategies, vs cramming for a test. We’ve all heard this and know that knowledge will be retained and recalled more efficiently when it’s learned over a period of time. Todd Woodcroft, the former assistant coach to the Winnipeg Jets, current Head Coach to the University of Vermont Catamounts[vi], from EPISODE #38 puts John Dunlosky’s theory into practice as he explained that the “daily grind in the NHL” begins with “hard work” being a baseline of what is expected of each player, and that to rise above this baseline, players must embrace certain daily habits, without complaining of the work, knowing that “things don’t get easier as you get better, they get harder” with the repetition of these important skills.Dalip Shekhawat further reinforced Dunlosky’s research with his interview detailing the preparation involved in climbing Mount Everest, and neuroscientist Stephanie Faye from EPISODE #39 shares why this spaced repetition is so important at the brain level when she explains how the neural pathways are formed with this daily, consistent practicing of skill. SEL COMPETENCY: SELF-AWARENESS with MENTAL HEALTH and WELL-BEING“When I discover who I am, I’ll be free.” Ralph EllisonMoving into the 3rd SEL competency, self-awareness, this was the area that received the most downloads. The second most downloaded episode was my interview with my mentor, Bob Proctor, that shares where this idea began over 20 years ago. The third most downloaded episode was my solo lesson with a deep dive into everything I learned working directly with Bob, in the seminar industry for 6 years. Many of the speakers interviewed in this area came from the connections made from these speakers that I met in the late 1990s. It was here that I first saw the power of these social and emotional learning skills with 12 young teens, who would inspire me to keep moving forward with this work. This section is full of speakers, leaders, entrepreneurs of all ages who have a vision, like I do, for change with our educational system.EPISODE #66 Bob Proctor #2 MOST DOWNLOADED EPISODE on “Social and Emotional Learning: Where it all Started for Andrea Samadi”EPISODE #67 “Expanding Your Awareness with a Deep Dive into the Most Important Concepts Learned from Bob Proctor Seminars” (Solo Lesson by Andrea Samadi)EPISODE #68 The Neuroscience of Personal Change with Stephen R. Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People” (Solo Lesson with Andrea Samadi)#1 MOST DOWNLOADED EPISODE with over 1100 downloads SOCIAL AWARENESS/RELATIONSHIPS/DECISION-MAKINGThese 3 SEL competencies are important with solo lessons for each topic. Greg Wolcott, the author of the book www.significant72.com was dominant in this area. I will mention an aha moment with his work in the next section.LESSONS LEARNED FROM EXPERTS IN SEL/EDUCATION TAKE ACTION, EVEN WHEN YOU AREN’T READY. My first guest speaker was my husband, Majid Samadi, who always is there to offer ideas, suggestions and support with all of my projects, so of course when I needed to interview someone to launch this idea, I asked him to be my first guest. If you go back to EPISODE #1 that covers “The Why Behind Launching an SEL or Emotional Intelligence Program in Your School or Workplace” you will hear me interview him on his thoughts, from the point of view of someone who spends most of his time, working in schools across the country, as the Regional Vice President of Sales for an Educational Publishing Company. This interview happened 5 minutes after he walked in the door after getting off a flight, I think from LA, and he put his suit jacket on my desk, and I handed him a sheet of questions and said “Answer these and talk into the mic.” I’m sure he had been working since early that morning, and it was well into the evening when we recorded this, but he did it, without rehearsing his answers, or spending time preparing. We launched the podcast when we weren’t 100% ready because if we didn’t, I’m sure I would still be spending my days planning. Take action, even when you aren’t ready.PAY ATTENTION TO EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE: SMALL DETAILS CAN LEAD TO BIG DISCOVERIES AND RELATIONSHIPS THAT LAST My second interview was with educator, Ron Hall, from Valley Day School (who I found from an article I saw through Linkedin, and reached out to him hoping he would say yes to being a guest on the show). He agreed, and we have remained in contact ever since. Something funny to mention is that I had just started using Zoom for these interviews, a year before everyone would be using Zoom, and I hadn’t mastered the audio yet. There was a setting on my end that I needed to fix, and finally figured it out, but I’ll never forget the stress of not being able to hear my first guest for a good 30 minutes (could have been longer) as he tried everything on his end to fix the audio, that we finally figured out was on my end. Once we figured it all out, Ron spoke about how he launched neuroscience into his school with one of his major influencers being an author and speaker named Horacio Sanchez. When I created the video for Ron’s interview, I added an image of Horacio as he explained his story. This became important a year later, when I was introduced to Horacio Sanchez from Corwin Press Publishers for Episode #74. With each person you meet, whether in your life, or work, it’s important to pay attention to small details that can lead to something important to you later on. Always develop and maintain relationships as you never know how that person could be of assistance to you, or you to them, at some point in the future. I’m forever grateful for Ron Hall being my first guest, for staying in touch with me, and for the introduction to Horacio Sanchez, who I’m working with now on another project. GRATEFUL FOR BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS THAT LAST.KEEP LEARNING AND DON’T GET IN YOUR OWN WAY: One of my early interviews was with Greg Wolcott, and assistant superintendent from Chicago, and the author the book Significant 72[vii]. I had been following Greg’s work since I heard him on an SEL webinar in 2016, where he explained how he was building relationships in schools across the country. Greg quickly became an incredible supporter of the podcast after our interview and referred me to many other guests. We became friends, and kept in touch as each episode was released, he would let me know how useful the information was for the educators he was working with, as he brainstormed the ways that the episodes were helping him. This gave me belief in the content, as I saw it being applied, and made me realize that it was crazy that I was nervous interviewing Greg, who would become an incredible support, leading me to step out of my own way, and into a path of greater opportunity down the line. Reminding me to KEEP LEARNING AND DON’T GET IN YOUR OWN WAY!LESSONS LEARNED FROM HEALTH/NUTRITIONWhen I launched this podcast, I had no idea I was going to even go in the direction of health, wellbeing and nutrition. It just happened. Health is my #1 value, and something I put an incredible amount of time towards, so it wasn’t a surprise to me that when the Pandemic hit our world, I saw the importance of interviewing people who were putting a focus on their physical health as well as their mental health and well-being.I’ve always stayed close to my trainer, Kelly Schmidt, from episode #51, but when I watched a documentary on the health staples that were shown to prevent Alzheimer’s Disease, I decided that I needed to expand what I knew in this area. I took the 5 health staples and began looking for people I could contact who were experts in each of these areas. I met Luke DePron on Linkedin, who connected me to Dr. Stickler, and Momo Vuyisich. I reached out to Shane Creado from Dr. Daniel Amen’s Clinics, leading us to get our brain scans, learn more about the importance of sleep and finally, reached out to Jason Wittrock on Instagram, after his videos had inspired me to make changes with my diet a few years back. This set of interviews led me to moderate Podbean’s Wellness Week with Dr. Carolyn Leaf and John Kim, who you bet I am working on getting on the podcast for 2021.I hope you have enjoyed this review of our first 100 EPISODES. There is a lot of information to review, and many lessons that I plan on revisiting over the holidays as a review. I’ll definitely be reviewing EPISODE #66 The Neuroscience of Personal Change (our #1 episode) and will be planning Season 5. Season 4: These 18 episodes (82-100) that begin to tie in health, and mental health into the understanding of our brain, productivity and results. The shift to health on this podcast became apparent when we started to see how important our brain health is for our overall results. CONTENT: Everything that we do starts at the brain level, and we dive deep into this with our 3-part episodes on “How a Brain Scan Changed My Life” with a look at what we can learn from looking at our brain using a SPECT image brain scan. The interviews of this season mix in the power of education with an understanding of health and wellness. Dr. Sarah McKay agreed with Dr. Shane Creado (from Season 3) that sleep is one of the most important health strategies we can implement. It became apparent that there were 5 health staples that emerged as so powerful they were showing an impact on Alzheimer’s Prevention, so this season became a deep dive into these top 5 health staples (daily exercise, getting good quality and quantity sleep, eating a healthy diet, optimizing our microbiome and intermittent fasting). After a couple weeks out of La, Bill bribes Tommy to come by the yard to talk about Bill's recent shows and his experience being called "offensive" by people who saw his Instagram post about "Dating an LA Vegan." What EXACTLY is offensive in comedy and has the world writ large changed in terms of what is acceptable in a comedy forum, including jokes about rape and the transgender movement sweeping America. Let’s begin this episode with a reflection on your thoughts and beliefs surrounding carbohydrates (carbs). Have you ever sat down with your journal, and thought about which foods you specifically fear and why? Are there specific foods you limit, restrict or fear consuming? What about food groups? Write down anything you may fear, even if you believe it’s coming from a “good place” like in the name of health you are fearful of (fill in the blank) food. Did you notice any common themes around what specific foods you’ve written down? After years of doing this work in a one on one setting and now in online courses, I’ve noticed a theme, almost always, the #1 food fear is carbs. And really in all forms, complex carbohydrates like pasta and bread and potatoes and simple carbohydrates like sugar in the form of fruits and desserts. We believe so deeply that some foods are bad and some foods are good. And right now, in today’s world, the “worst” food for us is CARBS. Starting in the 1970’s through the 1990’s and early 2000’s, fat was the primary culprit of shame around food. Now that has shifted to a focus on villainizing carbohydrates. By using flawed research and fear mongering techniques, diet culture has made believe that if we avoid carbs at all cost, our fears won’t turn into reality. We could talk all day about the specific messages that are touted to make us believe carbs are the enemy...but I find if you keep asking yourself why, the fear and belief we have around eating carbs is almost always coming from a desire to lose weight, or to avoid weight gain. So weight is the ultimate root cause of our fear surrounding carbs. In this episode we discuss: Why fear of weight gain is not a reason to not eat a particular food Common thread between the diets and “clean eating” programs of today Gray area view of the argument around carbs and sugar Why shaming carbs isn’t good for our health and doesn’t help us eat the amount right for our bodies Why shaming foods, like carbs, causes the last supper mentality and the restrict-binge seesaw The importance of making foods emotionally equivalent to allow for mind body knowledge and the habituation response Coping with the permission stage of intuitive eating Why carbohydrates are amazing and the role they play in the body Questions to reflect and journal on to analyze your relationship around carbs Stay tuned for an extra special bonus episode tomorrow! Following up on Episode 3; Done is better than PERFECT, we're talking about what you have to do if you want to be successful. What is the first thing you have to do? Besides knowing what it is you want to do. Number 1: you have to START!!!! You have to start. You gotta jump! But here’s the thing: almost EVERYONE feels that “naaaaahhh…. I’m not ready yet….” For how long are you going to be “not ready yet”? What are you waiting for? What EXACTLY is it you need to get to the point where you feel “NOW I’m ready”? I’m pretty sure you’re not waiting for everyone else to get ready before you, so they can jump and enjoy the adventure and the success before you. I think, nobody really ever feels “NOW I’m ready”. I think, most people just don’t have the courage. And I’m sorry for saying that, but I really think that’s what it is. I’ve often been told “ah, it’s so easy for you Annica, you have so much courage…”. OK, OK, you think I was BORN with a higher dose of courage?! Not the case. Not at all. Check out today's episode, and get inspired by Steve Harvey's motivational video You Gotta Jump.

HVMN Podcast: Evidence-based Nutrition, Fitness, & Biohacking
With over 100,000 patient interactions and two decades of experience as a board-certified Family Medicine physician, Dr. Ted Naiman continues to accumulate a wide spectrum of knowledge regarding nutrition, fitness, and the keys to optimal human health. Most recently, Dr. Naiman collated his work into his book: 'The P:E Diet'. He makes it clear that he does not follow specific diet dogma (keto, paleo, carnivore, vegan, etc), but that his P:E Diet (protein vs. energy) explains the success of every successful diet out there. In an excerpt in the book, Dr. Naiman states... "What EXACTLY were the differences between the diet and exercise of these healthy elites versus those plagued by chronic disease? Gradually I came to the realization that the principles at work were unbelievably simple, and equally simple to implement. The rules for diet were so basic that I couldn’t believe I hadn’t realized them earlier. Target nutrient density—mostly just protein and minerals—while minimizing toxins, including the energy toxicity of exceeding your carbohydrate and fat storage." Host Geoff Woo and Dr. Naiman discuss the delicate balance of metabolic substrates, why protein should be the building block for an energy-dense diet, the preferred intermittent fasting & time-restricted feeding schedule, the state of the carnivore community, the potential flaws of the popular 'carbohydrate insulin hypothesis', and accessible tips for bodyweight training / weight loss. This is Peak Week! As Americans continue to deal with all of the inconveniences that the Wuhan Coronavirus has created, hope abounds. How fitting it is that this hope comes to us during Holy Week. My hope is that history emphasizes the fact that Peak Week will have coincided with Holy Week. This year's promise of hope on Easter has new meaning; a more pronounced meaning. What Exactly is Peak Week? Doctors and other health officials have predicted that the Wuhan Coronavirus mortality rate here in America is likely to reach its daily maximum on Easter Sunday. In any pandemic, once the daily deaths caused by the disease has reached its maximum, the trend begins to reverse course. Our hearts go out to the victims of this virus and their families. They have suffered a terrible ordeal, and for that we share our deepest condolences. Peak Week is bittersweet, as it is the deadliest week of a pandemic, but it is also the beginning of the end for the pandemic as well. Looking Back and Looking Forward As we look back on the destruction this virus has wrought on America and her people, it is noteworthy to recount the most severe sins of a selfish, twisted, depraved and evil leftist mainstream media. Lap dogs for leftist politicians, they share a common characteristic with them. They are obsessed. And what are they obsessed with? The answer to this question is quite obvious of course. They are obsessed with the prospect of driving the President from office. They salivate over the idea. For them, Peak Week is a sign that time is running out. They must work harder than ever before to use this crisis as a vehicle for massive spending.

Today I want to talk about the goldmine of properties sitting in that stack of returned mail on your desk, and how to use skip tracing and other tools to find these property owners. Stop and think about this for a minute; if you haven’t bothered to find an updated address for these folks, most likely neither has your competition. These other investors probably also have a big stack of returned mail just sitting on their desk gathering dust. It’s a safe bet that no one is really taking the time to track those motivated sellers down. I want that to change for you after today. These could be some of the easiest deals you to put together simply because you will have little or no competition. And, I’m going to give you a list of resources you can use to find these folks. What Exactly is Skip Tracing? Skip tracing is the process of finding someone. It’s that simple Why Should you be Skip Tracing? You should be trying to find these property owners because it’s a lot easier than chasing deals everyone else is chasing. There are a number of free and low-cost ways to find these folks. There are also some services that require a subscription. Right about now you might be tempted to say, “I’m not messing with that”. But, let me ask you this; if you find even a few great deals a year would it be worth investing a little money? You bet. Let’s just imagine that you have 30 (or more) investors in your area actively doing direct mail. Those are your competitors. Everyone is chasing the same deals. However, what if only one or two of those same investors were working that pile of gold on their desk called return mail? Can you see how valuable those leads are to you? Listen in as I tell you exactly how to find these leads that are pure gold. Be sure to stop by the Louisville Gal’s Real Estate Blog and grab your freebies. .

Do you need a formal business plan? If not, how can you plan your business so it’s profitable and successful? How will you measure if it IS successful? Today's deep dive into business plans comes to you because my Boss-Level Patrons voted that I make this episode this month. Several years ago I created a video where I shared the process of making the business plan to buy the comic shop that my husband worked at. When I made the video we were in the middle of planning to buy the shop, which didn't end up working out for reasons totally outside our control. But that video is still one of the most popular videos on my channel. So I recently went back and rewatched it and I realized I talked a lot about what we had done, but nothing that was very instructional if you want to make a business plan for your own business. And you know I want to be super-useful to you, so over the next two episodes, I am going to go MUCH deeper into the practical aspects of a business plan. Today we’re going to talk about when you DO need a business plan and when you don’t, and if you don’t, how to make a plan that will help you reach your business goals. Next week we are going to be super-nerdy and go into how to make a traditional business plan, with questions to answer for all the sections and what we actually included in ours. I’m sharing as many of our real-life details as I can, without being in breach of the NDA we signed. Business Plan v Map Making We need to start with this: A business plan is related to your goals, and to the map you make to reach your goals, but it is not the same thing. My book Map Your Business helps you do the process you have to do before you ever sit down to a business plan - getting clear on where you are, where you want to be and what goals you want to hit on your way there. But it is aimed at helping you make a personal plan for the actions and to-dos you need to do to hit the goals. A business plan is a document that shows a lot of information and details about your business, the competition and the overarching plan. It may include financial projections. But it actually doesn't have that many actionable steps in it, it's more of a big picture planning document. So you need both a map to get super actionable, and you can use a business plan to make sure your business will WORK and to keep you in line with the bigger mission. When do you NEED a business plan? The short answer: Whenever you're getting anyone else involved in your business - a partner, an investor, a bank, even a landlord (they may want to see your business plan), you need a traditional business plan. So if it's just you and your hands, you probably don't HAVE to create an official business plan, but having a simplified business overview can help you focus and will prompt you do the research you need to do. In a minute we’ll talk more about what I recommend every new or growing business include in a plan. If you’re going to ask for funding, from anyone, including family or friends, you absolutely need to follow a tradition business plan. If you are starting a partnership, or bringing a partner into your business (even if it’s your best friend or spouse), you need to have a traditional business plan, to be sure your ideas, expectations and goals are completely aligned (the process is really clarifying of where exactly money will go!). You also need a partnership agreement, and you need to have a lawyer look over both documents. If you are investing a large amount of money into your business, even if it’s your OWN money, I’d recommend a business plan, so you know exactly when you are likely to see a profit, what you’re going to put the money towards, and how you’re going to earn it back. Treat yourself like an investor, and do the math and research to be sure. What’s a large amount of money? Whatever is a lot of money for you! When I invested into my doTERRA business just a few hundred dollars and committed to start a business (instead of just buying oils as a customer, like most people do), I made a mini business plan, to be clear about how much time I would put it into, what exactly I would do, and when I could expect to hit goals. I attribute that plan and commitment (which I shared with my friend and mentor and she held me too), with the success I’ve experienced in that business. What if I don’t need a business plan? I’ll be honest: I started my yarn company by listing some skeins on Etsy, and then a local art shop, and then I did some craft shows. For months I didn’t keep track of expenses or even sales. But it wasn’t really a business. When I got serious about getting profitable (so I could quit my dayjob), I made a post-it note marketing plan and did the math to figure out how much yarn I needed to make in order to make a sales goal. (I teach you how to do this inside the Starship Program, btw.) That’s not really a business plan, but they were documents that I could work from, and refer back to. When I wanted to talk to my husband about quitting my dayjob to make yarn full time, I wrote up some notes, which is the most formal business I ever made for that business - it included sales data, profit math, projected sales for upcoming shows, and how much I could make if I had more time (ie, after I quit my dayjob). I also included some marketing goals (getting featured in a magazine, getting accepted into more shows) and some personal financial goals, that we would want to achieve before I gave up my steady salary. This document guided me for the next year or so. Whenever I had a new challenge or a new goal, I have always done something kind of similar. So for me, this simplified business plan has been vital in helping me see the overall health and direction of my business. How can you make a simplified (and effective) business plan? I’m going to share suggestions from the Small Business Administration (SBA), and also suggestions based on working with hundreds of creative businesses. Remember: Your business plan is a living document. You will use it as you operate your business. You want to have enough detail to help you make decisions, but not so much that you get overwhelmed by it. The SBA suggests identifying: Key partnershipsNote the other businesses or services you’ll work with to run your business. Who will you buy your supplies from? What shows or shops will you work with? Who will help you with what? Key activitiesWhat do you actually DO in your business? What are the methods you use to sell? (Online shop? Craft show booth?) What are the activities involved in having your product there? Key resourcesWhat do you already have that will serve you? Don’t forget experience, education, skills, even those that you acquired in unrelated fields, like household management, making a website for your hobby, etc. Also include any audience you already have, from personal FB page, your Instagram, your email list, anything. Value proposition“Make a clear and compelling statement about the unique value your company brings to the market.” - SBA.gov What does your item offer your customer? How is that special? How does it make them feel? (We develop this more inside the marketing part of the Starship.) Customer relationshipsHow do you think customers will interact with your business? Is it automated or personal? In person or online? Think through the customer experience from start to finish. Customer segmentsBe specific when you name your target market. Your business won’t be for everybody, so it’s important to have a clear sense of who your business will serve. ChannelsHow do you communicate with prospective customers? What tools will you use? Cost structureWhat are your biggest costs? In this section, include your COGs for every product you sell. (Don’t know your COGs? The Starship Program guides you through this math) Revenue streamsExplain how your company will actually make money. Some examples are direct sales, membership fees, and selling advertising space. If your company has multiple revenue streams, list them all. That’s what the SBA recommends and if you are starting a new business, I recommend having every single one of those sections filled out if you are starting something new, or investing in your business. Many of you already have businesses, so I’m going to make an even more simplified version for you. At the minimum you need to have: Value Proposition What exactly do you sell? What does it do for the customer? How does she feel? Target Customer ProfilesWho loves and buys your work? What EXACTLY is she like? What is your next goal?(Map Your Business helps with this) Financial RealityBefore you can make any big decision in your business you need to know where you are financially - What is the COGs for each product? What is your overhead? What is your business break even point? Have your spreadsheet of at least the last year in monthly sales and expenses. (It is much more effective to compare month over month) Financial projectionConsidering what you have planned in the marketing section and the current growth track your on, what will your sales be like in the next six months (per month)? What will your expenses be? Day to day you may only need to think about the next month or two in projections, but if you’re taking on a big new expense, you may want to project out further, to the break even point. Marketing AssetsWhat assets do you already have? (Subscribers, followers, etc) What is the conversion rate for the various channels? What is your current calendar? Marketing PlanWhat will you promote? When? How? What’s your social media calendar? How will you move a customer down the customer path? (I have a course on building that path here or you can build it inside the Starship Program, after you work on your profitability) Overwhelmed? Ok, that’s it. Whew! Are you looking at this and thinking, “oh man, that is a LOT of work!”? You’re not alone! I feel a little overwhelmed just talking about it. But here’s the thing - if you’re tired of feeling scrambly, if you’re tired of feeling overwhelmed and without focus, you need to do SOMETHING different. You need a plan, not just for what you’ll do today, or for the very next goal, but you need to understand the entire health of your business and how it works together. A business plan will help with that. Digging into where you are where you want to go. Being clear about your real numbers. Being strategic in your marketing time. This will ALL help you feel LESS overwhelmed. Yes, it’s a big project if you tackle it all at once, but you don’t have to! You can do it step by step (this is actually what I DO, I help people walk through it step by step, not so they have some business plan, but so they have the information, the knowledge they need to grow and make decisions). Not knowing how your business will actually WORK is one of the biggest mistakes I see people make. I am going to be teaching you to avoid this mistake and three more in a free masterclass this week, and we are going to talk more about how you can figure out the data that goes into your business plan. To join me, go to taraswiger.com/foundations. I will walk you through this step by step, you DO NOT have to do it by yourself. Listen in at TaraSwiger.com/podcast277

Anita Kemi Dasilva is a specialist Obstetrician and Gynecologist with a medical background that extends to Public Health. She is a qualified physician with over 15 years of experience in private practice, where she dedicates her time addressing the needs of expectant mothers and women. Dr. DaSilva also runs a non- profit organization – the Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF) that successfully tackles the issues of gender-based violence, rape and trafficking of young girls and women in communities throughout Lagos State and across Nigeria. Below is a summary of the interview What Exactly is Rape with Dr. Anita Kemi Dasilva-Ibru She said that the WARIF organization was founded as a result of the many cases of rape, sexual violence and trafficking of young girls and women in many communities across Nigeria. She said that in her background as an obstetrician and Gynecologist taking care of women and children she had seen many oppressed women across different backgrounds. According to her, the statistics in Nigeria shows that 1 out of 4 girls before they clocked 18 have experienced one sexual violence act or the other. She defined rape as any form of sexual assault or penetration that is done against a person’s wish adding that it was also a tool of dominance over someone that is vulnerable. She mentioned that according to the Nigerian Law, prosecution for rape was Life imprisonment. As to what could be regarded as willful consent, she explained that consent was an enthusiastic agreement based on an informed decision between two persons that sexual activity will occur. As to consent in a sexual act, she pointed out that a person under 18 could not give consent, bribery or force; a person under the influence of alcohol did not count as consent while adding that consent could also be given and withdrawn. She revealed that rape survivors were often filled with stigma because the act usually occurs in safe spaces like in the home, in school and the perpetrators most times exist around these environments. She went on to say that rape survivors are often led to feel ashamed and to feel guilty about the act and without an enabling environment most times they lose the strength to speak out. She disclosed that WARIF had a rape crisis walk-in facility at Yaba which opened Monday to Friday offering free medical care, Counselling sessions as well as Shelter to survivors. While speaking about the need to educate boys on rape she said that statistics showed that 1 in 8 boys were survivors of sexual acts and as such when boys are educated on the realities of rape chances are high that they might grow up to become potential perpetrators. She mentioned the ‘Boys Conversation Café’ initiative at WARIF that was directed towards educating secondary schoolboys. Through conversations with some of the secondary school boys under the ‘Boys Conversation Café’ initiative, she said that 1 out of 5 boys had shown that they would walk away if they saw a girl being raped. She called on individuals to always pay attention to signs such as; a child avoiding a certain adult, a neighbor becoming quiet when a name is mentioned so as to help reduce the number of rape incidents. In the case of a rape incidence, she said it is advised not to take a bath within 72hours but visit a Rape Facility as it will aid in identifying such perpetrator as treatment and diagnosis will also follow so as to prevent STI’s.

Guess what we discovered this week? It's Charo's favourite band! No not a MUSIC band you IDIOT ugh, no it's obviously an acupressure band because Charo cares about Bláithín's sinuses and doesn't want her to have HAYFEVER! That should be obvious honestly. Fear not though, music isn't completely lost this episode as Aoife discovers empty orchestra for one and how to sing when you're....not winning, actually, but that's ok, you got this! All topped off with a frank and cynical yet hopeful discussion about one of our favourite things - PRIDE! And one of our least favourite things - corporations piggybacking off PRIDE! What is virtue signalling and why are the gardaí so tone deaf? When should we accept support and when should we be wary? We're asking you like, we have no answers honestly. Finally, Karen is not Doctor Seuss but is still acting like an absolute Sam I am. What? Exactly.

Specific Steps Can Help Have you ever been motivated, ready to take action and get some things done, started to try to work on one of your goals, and then bam struggled to by productive? If so, you're definitely not alone. I've been there more often than I care to say. I can get caught when I don't know the absolute best next small task in the moment. That's when I get distracted by little busy tasks that could be helpful somewhat, but aren't really the best or most productive thing to move me closer to my goals. That's where I can be a little bit busy. So, it can look like I'm being productive. But, that's not really the case. I was just being busy Being Busy Doesn't Count – Be Productive! There are times when I'm just busy. I know it and I don't like it. There are also times when despite distractions, maybe not feeling like working hard, or other obstacles, I still get things done and make progress. What is the one key difference between the times when I'm productive and making progress and those times when I'm just busy? A plan for the specific tasks I need to do. What will you do in the next small pocket of time Having specific steps laid out can be a huge help sometimes. Have A Plan A general idea of what you will need to do in order to achieve your goal. For me the big plan doesn't need to have every single detail from the beginning because I won't know them at the very beginning. And remember the plan doesn't need to be perfect. Just a plan to achieve your goals. Specific Steps When Needed This can be your daily tasks. The specific things you'll actually do to move toward and eventually accomplish your goal. This is where getting specific really helps me. I can struggle with some of the tasks I need to do. It is far easier for me to get distracted and become more busy and less productive with certain tasks when I'm uncertain on some details. And then other tasks I don't need to be as specific when I write my todo list. It tends to be the ones I'm more comfortable and familiar with that I don't need to be as specific. What Exactly what you'll do. When When you will start and finish the task. How How will you accomplish the task. Add more details to remove any questions and help you to just act and do it. No idea – No Plan – No Mindset even will accomplish your goals. Action is what will take you to your goals. It's what you do that counts. Make taking action easier and more productive by knowing the exact, specific steps you'll take next.

What EXACTLY is your brand? Why should you know how to articulate this seemingly simple question? Just about every indie artist is vague on how to describe their brand. Fans latch on to your brand as much, or in some cases, even more than your music. The artist’s music and their brand stand for something that consumers relate to. YOUR BRAND PROVIDES MANY DIFFERENT WAYS FOR CONSUMERS TO INSTINCTIVELY RECOGNIZE EXACTLY WHO YOU ARE. Oh, and if you think your brand is just about marketing, you’re way off base. When an artist is enlightened on their brand, it strongly influences the artistic decisions as well, like what songs you’ve written are for you, image, production, arrangement, etc. Every time we on-board a new client at Daredevil Production, part of our job description is to discover the artist’s brand and their brand layers. The information we acquire from this exercise provides all the answers we need to targeting, content creation, and strategy creation. Here’s the thing, your brand is like an onion, there’s more than meets the eye and it’s in the form of many different layers. We developed a very effective system for not only peeling these layers and getting to the core of our new artist’s brand but uncovering the subtle undertones that consumers will relate to. In this episode we’re going to share this system with you! Over the years we have created and refined an extensive questionnaire that reveals the core values and understated coatings of intent, meaning, and direction for our artists. In fact, we’re going to give you this questionnaire we developed as a free download. Just visit DaredevilProduction.com/DiscoverYourBrand and tell us where to send it. PS:Imagine what it will feel like to wake up tomorrow and know exactly who your audience is and how to effectively get them to like you. The more you discover your brand and clearly understand how to connect with people online through your brand, the quicker you’re going to make a living in the music industry. Help me help you. As we finish our gadget shopping for Christmas we consider the cycle of new consumer electronics. Debuted every year at CES, these products usually don't drop until the end of the year, or later in some cases. One of the prominent new technologies we're thinking about looking into next year is the rollout of 5G wireless networks, and here to shed a little light on this complicated topic is CNET Executive Editor, Roger Cheng. We discover the benefits and shortcomings of the fledgling wireless standard, and learn how its introduction paralleles and differs from the rollout of 4G over a decade ago. Then, Hollywood Car Consultant, Josh Hancock, expounds upon the Volvo S90 we first heard about last week - he is very impressed with its sound system, interior, and level two autonomy. Closing the show, we discuss Volkswagen's dieselgate and how it has effectively squashed the momentum of diesel motors in the United States. Don't miss the latest in mobile and automotive technology. I've spent the last four years learning from the most brilliant marketers today, and now I've left my nine to five to take the plunge and build my million dollar business. Join me and follow along as I learn, apply and share marketing strategies to grow my online business using only today's best internet sales funnels. My name is Steve Larsen, and welcome to Sales Funnel Radio. What's up, guys? Hey, I've been really excited for this episode actually I put up my little trello board, and I was taking notes on it. I've been really excited actually to dive through this with you guys. I've got my whiteboard here, for those of you guys that are on iTunes, I'm actually drawing this out, but I'm sure it'll also be in the blog and other places anyways. Guys, thanks so much, wherever you're tuning in, thanks so much. Sales Funnel Radio has been blowing up like crazy thanks to you guys, and I really just wanna say "Thank You." When I left my job, actually let me go further, let me go further back... A while ago, I don't even know how long ago it was, it was over a year ago. It was probably a year before I left ClickFunnels. we were launching this program, and I was really excited because it was one of the first projects where I was able to get a little bit of cut of the action, and I was like, "Yeah, what's up? This is super cool!" Right? I was just working my guts out for this thing. I worked so freakin' hard, I don't even know how many hours I put into this thing... It was an ungodly amount of work. 'Cause I wanted to... You know, man, it's freakin' Russell Brunson... I wanted to make sure it was awesome stuff. And we killed it. The sales were awesome, but when my cut came into my bank account, I was like, "What?!" I had calculated all these sales, and I was like, "Holy crap! Check this out, we're gonna hit all these financial goals." All these financial goals my wife and I had, we were gonna hit 'em so fast, I was like, "Holy crap, this is so cool! Holy crap!" And when the check came in it was about half of what I expected. I was like, "What the heck? Who? Where's all the cash?" I was like, "There has to be some mistake!" And I start going, and I'm looking through the pay stub and everything, and sure enough, greedy, disgusting, nasty, filthy Uncle Sam had his just molded, gross, fleshy hand all over that check, and I got taxed 42% on that thing. I was like, "Where did all the cash go?! Oh my gosh, what?! This is ridiculous!" It was my first big encounter of getting paid a huge lump sum and only getting really about half of it. And I was like, "That sucks." And I can see where there's a lot of dilemma that goes back and forth, where entrepreneurs are like, "Well, should I not make more money because I gotta pay more taxes?" ...Man, just pay the taxes, and make more money. Make your wallet fatter. I'm not a financial adviser, but that's what I do. Just pay the taxman, just move on forward. And I was like, "That's crazy." And what was interesting to me is when I ended up leaving ClickFunnels, cash started coming on in, quite a bit right at the beginning, like "Bam! Huge flood of cash," 'cause I had built up this big campaign and the doors opened, and a big old flood came in. There was this big surge of cash, and we kept almost all of it, and I was like, "Hmm, why did that work that well that time?" Alright, I'm a W-2 of my own business, that's how I set it up, a W-2, anyone, so I'm an employee of my company, so we were still paying ourselves, we paid ourselves a small amount. I didn't take a paycheck from my company for quite a while, alright? 'Cause I was just rolling cash on it, we were living on savings. And what was funny is when we started paying ourselves, it ended up being about the same tax rate as when I was working at ClickFunnels. But suddenly I could expense things like the car. So while we were still at the same tax rate, I could go in, and I could grab... And this is not to be like a financial, you know, strategy session. I would not say I'm a guru of that at all. I hire other people out for that, kay? But I started expensing out all this other stuff and now suddenly, with the same amount of cash coming in, we were keeping more of it, right? We had greater amounts of discretionary income because of the fact we run a business and had an actual company. And I was like, "That's really fascinating, Why is this working so well?"And I went back, and I started looking at it, and sure enough, all these other guys kept telling me, "Man, if you are a W-2 employee you are getting eaten alive with taxes." And I was like, "Ah, what do you mean? " I had no idea until I actually jumped ship how much a W-2 employee gets gouged. I mean straight up murdered with taxes. Holy crap, it was nuts! It actually made me sick to my stomach to think about how much money I had given away to the taxman which I legally did not need to do if I was simply a 1099, right? Or something else like that. So anyway, one of the first moves I ever made... And again, I'm not a tax person, I'm not your financial adviser. *Disclaimer, Disclaimer* Does everyone feel disclaimed? Nice. Alright, now that you're all disclaimed, I'm just gonna tell you what I did... I went in, and I immediately took every exemption I could for my own company, the full nine, if that's the full amount, hopefully, it is, 'cause I took the full amount. And then I started figuring out what other ways we could put more expenses back on the business - not that I'm gonna live off the business solely -I would not do that, but what made sense to make the business run we started doing that. I was like, "Sweet, okay, this is super cool." And it was crazy to get paid the exact same amount, but we were keeping way more of it. So my wife and I could go hit these other goals we wanted to... "Alright we got this much to put in our little emergency fund” - I call it the "oh craps," like if a water heater goes out, which it did a little while ago, right, "Oh crap!" That comes from the "oh craps." So we've got an "oh craps account," you know, a rainy day account. And it was funny how fast we hit those because I paid myself the same amount as when I was at ClickFunnels, but I was keeping way more of it, right? So anyway, I just wanna talk real quick about why entrepreneurs get paid so much more, 'kay? Again, those are some of things that I do. And there's way more that I do with that as well. I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to become like a financial adviser, I'm not that at all. I will not ever try to be that. I'm a marketer, but real quick, I just wanted to walk through and share with you guys why, why an entrepreneur gets paid so much and why everyone should have their own LLC. Again, *Disclaimer, Disclaimer* - But it is ridiculous to me when someone doesn't, 'kay? It is insane, it is insane how much money you don't have to pay in taxes when you have revenue going to an LLC instead of you as freakin' W-2, oh my gosh. I Lost a lot of money. Okay, anyway. Whatever, it's over. I'm still not totally over that emotionally, that was like crazy. This is not just coming straight from me, someone taught this to me. I don't remember whether it was Russell, or someone in the circle, anyway... I wanna go through real quick, and I wanna talk about what I learned. Now if you are W-2, I wanna be able to share with you guys the best places, in my opinion, to be in the company - because the entrepreneur gets paid a lot of cash, right? In fact, that's something that Russell would always say, "Look, the business exists to serve people and to make the entrepreneur money. Take money from it. That's why it exists - to create income. Don't be afraid to get paid by your business." So again, I'm not a financial adviser, I'm speaking in massive stereotypes here, got it? But this is why an entrepreneur gets paid so much money... When you think about an entrepreneur, they're here at the top, I'm just making sure you guys can see this, yeah, okay cool. They're here at the top. I always laugh when people are like, "Is this a pyramid scheme?" And everyone tries to backpedal out of that. "Man, you freakin' hope it is!" To be an entrepreneur, it means you're at the top! The pyramid's all below you, right?! You might have this person here, they work for you, this person, this person. And then these people underneath there, they got their teams, right? What does that look like? Might just be the office. Anyway, right. It's funny... so this is the entrepreneur at the top, right? Think about what the entrepreneur has... The entrepreneur at the top has all of the risk. All of the risk! When I left ClickFunnels, I'm the one who took all of the risk, right? The risk doesn't sit on anyone else's shoulders, just me, right? All risk is right there, risk. Huge amounts of risks directly on the entrepreneur's shoulder, no one else shoulders it, 'okay? With risk also comes reward, right? So there's risk, but that's the other reason why the entrepreneur gets rewarded so much, because they take on all of the risk, right? All of it. And they don't even know, a big old shot in the dark. Doing something like I did was kinda ballsy, right? Leaving ClickFunnels without actually having a revenue stream set up... It's only because I've been doing this a long time I felt comfortable doing that. I don't recommend that to anybody else, 'kay? Somebody messaged me, and said, "I quit my job, just like you did!" I'm like, "Oh crap!" Like, let me just be clear, okay? Don't, don't, I'm not telling you to quit your job, 'kay? What I wanna do is I wanna share with you why an entrepreneur gets paid so much money. And the best places to be in a company when you work inside of it. One thing that my dad always taught me growing up, and I'm so glad he taught me this. He said, "Stephen, always make sure you are in the revenue side of the company, not the cost side of the company." And I said, "What do you mean?" He said, "Meaning the role that you're in when you're an employee." If you become an employee of somebody else always make sure that you are sitting on the revenue side of the business. I talked about this like one of the earliest episodes of Sales Funnel Radio. But this is the reason why... If you are in a position that makes it rain, it's really easy to justify: #1: Paying you more #2: It's hard to get rid of you. If you need the job security, and if you don't have something else that's actually working on the side yet, man, don't leave the job. Just figure how to make it rain. Everyone else, right underneath here in this pyramid - they are a cost to the business. Someone who's in support, you're a cost to the company, you don't bring revenue in, you're a cost. I'm just being real with ya. If you're support, or if you are... I don't wanna say coders - 'cause sometimes it depends on the kind of coder, right? If the software you're coding makes money, then obviously you're on the revenue side of the business. Does that make sense? What I want you to do is I want you to think through and be like, "Oh man, I'm right here, or I'm right here, or I'm right here," and get real with yourself- "Does my position in this business make money? Do I add to the bottom line of this business or do I take from it?" Guys, WHEN crap hits the fan, not if, WHEN... the positions to go are the ones that are a cost on the business. Suddenly everyone learns more things, they put on an additional hat to cover that additional space. The people they don't get rid of easily are the ones that make money for the business. Why would you get rid of rainmakers? As a business owner, you just wouldn't do that. So think about this: All the risk is on the shoulders of the entrepreneur - which is also why there's so much upside for the entrepreneur. There have been multiples times, I've heard a lot of other stories from a lot of other people... I've coached 1,800 people through this process now, at the time of recording this, 1,800 personally, I'm not saying just like through the course, like 1,800, that is a lot of freakin' offers, that's a lot of businesses. ...And I've heard a lot of stories where someone will get their first hire or first virtual assistant or something like that, and that person has no clue what risk the entrepreneur has taken on, and is trying to share in the revenue fruits, right? (Stephen draws on the whiteboard) The entrepreneur, at the top of the pyramid, takes all this risk - which means they also have this huge potential for reward, right? And then this new person, they're trying to share in the pie that the entrepreneur is getting, even though they're in a position down here in the pyramid. That makes no sense, right? And you might look at that now and be like, "What?" Exactly, what?! That makes no sense. Hopefully, you guys can see the green? I'm gonna switch to black. Although I wasn't before anyway... maybe I'm thinking green money? That must be it. Anyway, alright. Don't do that if you're an employee of somebody. Eventually, I asked for a raise at ClickFunnels when I got higher, but not for like a solid freakin' year after I'd killed myself over there, right? And it was very evident. There was no challenge when I asked for a raise because they knew I was bleeding for this thing, right? Morning and night, I was coming in early. I was staying in late, I was doing projects late at night. I was making sure I was on when I knew he was on, I was killing myself, right? And it's for this exact reason, I wanted to make sure that my position was in a spot where it was pulling cash into the company. So when I decided, "Oh my gosh, you know what? I think it's NOT gonna be an awkward conversation when I ask for a raise." It's not gonna be just because of custom that they give me one. Right? I wanna actually have measurable revenue. So one thing that I did is I would go in, and I'd look at all the funnels that I was building. All the ones I'd pressed go on. Everything that I was building out there, and I could tally up all the cash that I was helping to bring into the business. And it was not a small amount. It was a huge amount. And so when I asked for a raise, it made sense logically, it made sense emotionally: #1: I was easy to work with. #2: I was bringing in revenue. #3: I was a solution provider rather than just a problem bringer. - so it was an easy, easy conversation. The only reason why I'm bringing this up is that I know a lot of you are still in a job, and that's fine. I know a lot of you guys are new entrepreneurs, some of you guys are experienced entrepreneurs which is awesome. Thank you so much for tuning in. But a lot of you guys are new at hiring people, or you're still working for somebody else. So you gotta ask yourself, "Does my position bring money in or do I require money to support my position?" I'm just gonna tell you, that's a freaky place to be. You are replaceable. I got like 15 stories just zooming through my noggin right now: All these people are like, "Well, I should be getting this, I should be getting this!" I'm like, “What are you freakin' talking about? I don't need to give you a dime, alright?” You're replaceable. You're replaceable. And I want you to know that. And when I run my company like that, I'm replaceable to my business. Now, is that actually true? I don't know. But when I have that mentality, and I keep that mentality, guys, I'm freakin' hungry. I'm seeking the cash flow. I'm hungry, I wanna kill it, I wanna destroy, I wanna take down walls, I wanna take the hill, I'm here to conquer, right? And that's my mentality when I wake up in the morning, and I'm like, man, I'm going to freakin' war. If you're going to your job and you're not going to war, and you're on the revenue side - you're starting to move to the cost side. That's a bold statement. I don't care. You understand what I'm saying though? You gotta go to war, you gotta go to war in your head, you gotta be ready to step up to the plate and kill it and crush it and take down. If you're like, "Man, I wanna be an entrepreneur someday," and you're not, you gotta understand, until the entrepreneur can see that you're ready to go to war for 'em, they're not gonna put you on the revenue side of the business, or give you the fruits that come with it. There's one exception to this rule, and it is one of the fastest ways for you to scale inside of a company. There's an exception to the rule. There's a person over here on this side, they're the cost side of the business, not the revenue side. They're not responsible for any kind of marketing, they're not responsible for any kind of innovation (those are the easiest ways to get out of the cost side). Regardless of what the title is that you carry in the business, the easiest way to sidestep this structure is one role, it's this one right here. Remember the reward and risk are very favored for the entrepreneur because of the amount of risk they take on - they take on all of it! The sales guy is the only position where there is hardly any risk, but there's still a huge potential for reward. If you feel like, "Oh, I'm not a sales guy." Freakin' learn. That's not an excuse. It's not. You gotta learn how to be a salesperson, you gotta learn how to sell, you gotta learn how to make it rain. The people who know how to sell - they have hardly any risk plus they have a huge potential for reward. A lot of CEOs who were working in a company before they became the CEO, a lot of 'em were salespeople. You don't see the head of HR really becoming the guy who's the CEO in the future, that's not really like a standard play. It's the person who knows how to make it rain. Who better to have the future of the company be rested on than the person who can continue to make it rain because they once made it rain? Does that make sense? If you want to move up in a company, and you're like, "Hey, I wanna stay here." Or if you're like, "Man, my spin's not spinning up yet on the side, you know, I got this side hustle"- I guess it's what we all call them now, a side business, alright? If you've got this side business running, you've got this thing going over on the side, and it's not quite spun up yet... Seek to become a salesperson. You don't have to ask permission for that. You can go in, and you can start to, an example... When I was, I was an employee at ClickFunnels, I was trying to demonstrate this very principle. This was an active conversation in my head. I never talked about it over there. In fact, a lot of employees that I know listen to this over there, "You know, Russell, what's up?" I never talked about this, but this was a theme that ran in my head all the time, "How can I make it rain? How can I make it rain? How can I make it rain? How can I provide solutions instead of provide problems?" You know what I mean by that? Like, someone who walks up, "Oh, here's this problem." You should never walk up to a superior, you should never walk up to someone who's over you. You should never walk up to your boss with, "We got this problem!" without a suggested solution. Does that make sense? That changes the way you're perceived in the eyes of the person. So if you wanna be the go-to person for the new and upcoming opportunities inside of a company, you gotta be: #1: A solutions provider, number one. #2: Start finding ways to sell. And you don't always have to ask for permission to do this. One of the ways that I did that at ClickFunnels is I actually sought opportunities to sell ClickFunnels without being invited to do so. For example, there was an opportunity that came my way from one of my good friends, Ben. Ben Wilson, "What's up?" Shout out to you, buddy. He's got Conversion Marketing Radio, that's his podcast. Anyway, he's awesome, a good buddy of mine. He invited me, he had this really cool hookup with DECA. If you don't know what DECA is, they help high school students figure out what they wanna go do to make money. Anyway, someone else can tell better than me than what they really do. But they're the group of kids though, growing up, you can tell they're trying to go places. Anyway, the DECA national conference was going on - the regional conference, and I got invited to go speak because of connections that Ben had. So I was like, "Sweet, I'm gonna "sell ClickFunnels at that thing." And so I go, and I start selling - I basically sold ClickFunnels from the stage in front of 2,000 kids, lots of advisors, lots of MBAs. 2,000 right, it's awesome! 2,000 people came to that event. Why? Why did I do that? I could have sold my own thing, right? I was selling because I wanted to be a solution provider, I wanted to be the guy who was like, "Oh, man, that dude hustles when I'm not asking him to." You guys understand? I had this weird tradition at ClickFunnels, and I know I'm talking about it a lot, but like, you gotta get over it, 'okay? I'm trying to help you understand what my mentality was over there and why things went so well and why I was able to have such good relationships. I have mad, intense, brotherly love for Russell Brunson and what he does over there - but how did I politically navigate that area as well? Well, one of the ways I did it was I made sure that I was a solution provider. I made sure I was selling - that I'm bringing extra revenue into the business. I also wanted to make sure that they knew that I was serious about it when I didn't need to be asked to be serious about it, you know? I had this weird tradition over there that every time we would launch a funnel, I would go buy the product. I wanted to be one of the first people to buy the product through the funnel that I just helped launch. And they're like, "You could just log in "and make yourself an account." And I was like, "Yeah, I know." When we were filming a lot of Funnel Hacker TV, and I think they're still doing it, I pulled the camera up, and I said, "What's up, everyone?" I just want you to know that "I'm really into this thing, it's because not only do I help make the Kool-Aid here at ClickFunnels, I drink it too!" And it became like a phrase over there. If your boss is like some guru, or if they're not, be your boss' best student! That's what I've actively tried to be for Russell! I am one of his best students, I know that. Russell knows that. The community knows that. I do what the man says! That helps validate his principles, that helps validate the things he's doing, right? That scratches his back. It's one of the easiest ways for me to do that. There are very few things I could go buy for him that he could not buy on his own, right? So instead, drink the Kool-Aid that your guru boss is also drinking and making. Help it make, drink it, be a salesperson and figure out how to be a solutions provider. That's the, basically the crux of the episode, guys. That's what I wanted to let you guys know. Hopefully, that makes sense? And so when you're hiring, you do the same thing. Who can make it rain? Those are the positions you're trying to make fill before you ever, ever, ever go hire someone who's a cost on the business. Who can make it rain in that fragile, fragile beginning phase of that business when it's just barely spinning. It's like a little kid that can't survive on its own, right? You know what I mean? It's a really fragile period for the company. That's why I didn't take a paycheck for a while, alright? Is there enough cash in the business to operate? If something massive hit, if I didn't get paid for a year, would it be okay? Those are all the questions I'm asking. How do I make sure I stay hungry? I don't want too much cash in that business. I wanna make sure I stay hungry - which I have no problem doing. So if you're hiring people, ask: "Who will make it rain?” I love what Dana Derricks says in his Dream 100 book, he says that your first hire should be a dream 100 / affiliate manager. So that was my first hire, Colton sitting right over there, boom! He's the affiliate manager, he's the dream 100 manager. If you wanna promote our products, you contact him. And that's the reason why that was my first hire. I don't have a dedicated support person, we kinda tag team that. Those are the things I'm getting next. But why on earth would I get those without the other positions that make it rain? Those are the only positions that matter. I can get rid of pretty much every single one of these positions. I've been thinking about it a lot lately, and I know someone's gonna fight me on this. I'm sure someone's gonna get mad about the fact that I'm saying this, but, man, besides me, a sales guy, a support person, an assistant, that's kind of it. These funnel games are so freakin' cool because the actual business structure, when you gotta funnel the works right, the actual business structure, man, you only need like three to five people tops depending on what you're doing. I know, some of you guys have massive call centers, okay cool, but I'm talking employees though. I'm gonna go get an assistant soon, I'm gonna get an actual dedicated support person soon, but man, we haven't needed that for a long time, alright? I'm more obsessed about building the revenue machine, the actual funnel machine, the sales, right? How does that happen? Sell, sell, sell, sell, sell! Right, how do I make that happen? How do I be obsessed over that? I love something that Grant Cardone teaches, he says, the order of operations that you have as a business owner is this: #1: My first order of business is to close the lead. The issue with that is that when you close a lead, you no longer have a lead. So you gotta refill that pipeline, right? #2: The second order of business is to replace that lead. Otherwise, the future of the business is gone. #3: The third order of business after replace, is fulfill on this first lead. That might sound backward to you, but that's the reason why I set it up the way I do. I'm closing the leads, I'm making sure we got more of 'em, and then I'm fulfilling on the sale. And that's the reason why I always sell something before it's even made. If it doesn't sell consistently, who the freakin' cares what I'm making? It doesn't matter what product I'm making, right? And when you find salespeople, and you find personnel in your company that can back that, oh man, cool, this guy's closing 'em, right? Oh, cool, I got another person over here, let's say you got another like, it's a setter, it's not a closer like a sales guy here, right? Let's say this guy's a closer, you got a setter - he's the one who's going out and replacing leads, your funnels are doing that also. And then you're fulfilling, man, because of all that automation that goes on. You can do that automatically now anyway with a lot of things that are going out there. Does that make sense? So anyway, that's why I'm trying to help you guys understand this. This whole game, the reason why it works, it works well for the people who know how to freakin' make it rain. If you are an employee, figure out how to be a solution provider, drink the Kool-aid, don't just make it, right? Be all in, then an entrepreneur is far more likely to give you a slice of this reward pie 'cause you're helping to remove some of his risk. But until then, why on earth would he ever do that? Anyway, that's all I wanted to share with you guys today. It was a good episode, it was my favorite so far. Hopefully, you guys enjoyed it. If you have not thus far gone and checked out days.com, it's a podcast interview I just did with Russell to promote a book, talking about what I would do to get this all back in days. It's really cool. You can see a lot of other millionaires and what their plans are. A lot of big guys, guys all know the names of. So anyway, it's really fun. I got to write a chapter, go to days.com/stephen to check that out. Hopefully, this is helpful. Thank you so much, please rate and review and share this if you liked it. Thanks, guys, I'll talk to you later, bye. Oh, yeah, wasn't that awesome? Hey, just real quick, a few months ago, Russell asked me to write a chapter for a secret project he was doing, and I had to write a chapter for a book, and this was the prompt, this was the letter I got from him: "Hey Stephen, Let me ask you a quick question. You suddenly lose all your money along with your name and your reputation and only have your marketing know-how left. You have bills piled high and people harassing you for money over the phone. You have a guaranteed roof over your head, a phone line, an internet connection, and a ClickFunnels account for only one month. You no longer have your big guru name, your following, your JV partners, other than your vast marketing experience, you're an unknown newbie. What would you do from day one to day to save yourself? -Russell Brunson." If you wanna see my answer and the answers of a bunch of other amazing marketers, then just go to days.com/stephen. You can see the entire summit, you can see the book, and each of our detailed plans. Just go to days.com/stephen, that's as in three zero, days.com/stephen, S-T-E-P-H-E-N. Guys, enjoy.

Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
When you think of Artificial Intelligence, do you think of sci-fi movies? Do you wonder or worry if AI can take over some of the data driven work your agency does for it's client? Don't let Artificial Intelligence scare you! AI can be your competitive advantage when you learn how it really works and what it can do for your agency growth. In this episode, we'll cover: What exactly is Artificial Intelligence (AI)? The two types of AI. How your agency can embrace AI and use it to grow. Today I got to talk with Paul Roetzer, author, CEO and founder of the inbound marketing agency, PR20/20. He is also founder of the Marketing Artificial Intelligence Institute. Paul got his start in PR, but started questioning the agency model, specifically billable hours. His goal was to figure out ways to achieve economics of scale and profitability, so he set up shop with PR20/20 and created standardized services with set prices. Paul's interest in AI first piqued when he watched the Jeopardy episode featuring IBM's Watson supercomputer which beat out the humans. He has been researching and writing about AI, ever since. What Exactly is Artificial Intelligence? It's easy to go to images of science fiction movies and Will Smith, when thinking of Artificial Intelligence (AI), but that's not accurate. AI is the science of teaching machines to be smart. It's more like when Netflix suggests another show or movie for you to watch after learning what other shows/movies you like. The machine's abilities revolve around very narrow tasks that are data driven, such as what time to send an e-mail, what content to write about, A/B testing of landing pages and predicting conversions, to name a few. They excel at things that are hard or time consuming for humans to do. When used within data driven areas, AI helps your agency make better decisions. [clickToTweet tweet="'80% of what we do as an agency will be intelligently automated within five years.' Says @paulroetzer, found of Marketing Artificial Intelligence Institute" quote="80% of what we do as an agency will be intelligently automated within five years. ~ Paul Roetzer, found of Marketing Artificial Intelligence Institute"] The Two Types Of AI Machine Learning - This is the AI that we are talking about. This is where your agency uses machines to solve data driven problems with superhuman skill. Deep Learning - This is the AI that falls in the sci-fi realm. This involves getting machines to think like a human brain works, by processing through neurons. Facebook has a hand in this type of AI with the facial recognition feature they're developing. How Your Agency Can Embrace AI Don't let it overwhelm you, AI is happening. It's time that your agency starts learning and understanding he capabilities of AI. Then look for ways you can apply it to your business and use it to grow. For example, Paul says you can utilize AI when automating e-mails. If your agency wants to send emails at a certain time, does it take into account different time zones or the receiver's opening habits? AI can make adjustments to automated sending habits, based on predicative information. As the data comes in from the email blasts, the AI tool gets smarter on it's own and will make the necessary adjustments, based on it's learning. If your receiver usually opens emails at local time of 9AM, there's no sense in sending the email at 3AM, right? Another great application to use AI for your agency growth is with chatbots. You can let chatbot AI engage with your prospects until a human can take over. AI is currently all around us, it is present in much of the technology we use every day. So be aware. Don't define your agency on one little thing. Now that you can see this coming, it's time to pivot, use AI to support and build upon the systems your agency already has so you can grow easier and faster. Need Guidance and Support to Grow Your Agency 3X Faster? Need Guidance and Support to Grow Your Agency 3X Faster? In doing so, we answer question fundamental to the study of etymology: "What EXACTLY is a root word?" In attempt to understand the answer to this question as deeply as possible, we cover also cover the technical linguistic topics of morphology and semantics.

Many people may see the title of this post and roll their eyes. The idea of dealing with mental health, thoughts, feelings and ‘getting all emotional’ is just not some people’s cup of tea and they try to avoid it. And that’s cool. But, to me, this is just as important, and probably more important, than any other part of our health. Because we can have all the success, money, six-pack abs and everything else we desire, but if we don’t have good thoughts and feelings then it’s all pointless. Our minds are so powerful that we can create the feeling of us being a worthless, broke, 500lb couch potato, even if the outside and ‘real world’ evidence points towards completely the opposite. Plus, if you feel like shit all the time then it becomes extremely difficult to take positive actions. In my view, aiming for total balance and ‘well roundedness’ in all areas of our lives is the key to happiness. And if you’re lacking in one area, then you’re lacking in all areas. So being mentally and emotionally healthy is just massive. What Exactly is Mental or Emotional Health? Various blogs, podcasts and whatever else refer to mental and/or emotional health. But before we go on, I think it’s important to look at what it actually is. I suppose you could get a whole host of ‘definitions’ here depending on someone’s personal opinions or academic background. But, to me, mental or emotional health refers to our overall psychological wellbeing in terms of how we feel about ourselves, our relationships, our lives in general and our ability to deal with the thoughts and emotions that come with the ups and downs of everyday life. Just as with physical health, I don’t believe simply the absence of disease or problems, such as depression, is a marker for ‘being mentally healthy’. But rather that being in the best mental and emotional health sees us experiencing positive characteristics, such as strong relationships, joy and able to deal with stress. In other words, I don’t believe you are necessarily ‘healthy’ just because you happen to not have been diagnosed with something. So maybe this post can benefit you and help you improve your mental and emotional health, even if you maybe don’t feel like you have too much of a problem in this area. A Full Disclosure Now I’ve been wanting to do a longer post specifically on mental and emotional health for a while. But I’ve shied away from this subject because I haven’t felt worthy or ‘qualified’ to talk about it. Because, if I’m honest, this is an area I struggle in myself. And in a pretty big way at times. There are times over the past few years where I’ve suffered with anxiety, depression, apathy and generally allowing my own thoughts and feelings to fuck me over and take control. Some days I find it extremely difficult to peel myself out of bed in the morning, face up to the day and get even the smallest amount of work done, and I have to work FUCKING HARD to get myself back to ‘normality’ (whatever that is ;) ). And so I didn’t feel like I was in a position to start offering advice about mental and emotional health. But then I thought that maybe I’m actually in a pretty good position to offer this advice. Rather than being someone with all these idealistic answers talking down to anyone struggling with their mental and emotional health, I can help from a real life, been in the trenches point of view. The original title of this post, for example, was ‘How to Master Your Mental & Emotional Health’, which is cool and would have given some great info. But I changed it to be about what I’m doing (or am trying to do) because I wanted it to have some real life points of view around it. Basics First Okay, okay. I know I bang on about these foundations so often that I may as well get it tattooed on my forehead. But this is only because they are so vital. There’s no point trying to do fancy things with supplements, ‘life hacks’ and all sorts if you aren’t doing the basics right. It’s like building your house on sand. This is why I aim to eat in a way that makes me feel good and energised, sleep right, move my body every day and take time out to de-stress, whether this be through meditation, a walk in the park or simply ‘pushing the pause button’ for a few minutes every so often. I’ve talked in previous podcasts about these, but specifically in “Episode #31: Using Sleep To Optimise Your Brain, Energy, Productivity, Performance & Health” and “Episode #39: Building A Badass Brain Pt. 2”. In a nutshell, in much the same way as overlooking these basics can affect your physical health, it can also affect your brain, hormone secretion and neurotransmitter balancing and, therefore, your mental and emotional health. So there’s my little spiel about the basics once again. Learn them. Apply them. And don’t underestimate them, whether it be for your mental health or anything else. Now onto some less repetitive stuff! #1 I Start the Day by Looking After Me It’s so easy to simply go through the motions each morning. You get up, fuck around for a bit and, before you know it, it’s mid-morning and you’ve got nothing done and feel like shit. Or you rush around getting yourself and kids ready to get out the house and as soon as you get time to breathe you start hearing that negative little voice in your head again. Rather than trying to deal with it all as and when it comes, I like to nip this in the bud. Morning time when I first get up is for me. Not for clients or family or Facebook friends or anything like that. So, my little routine looks like this: Get up, pee, rinse mouth, wash face with cold water. Some relaxed mobilisation and stretching to get me loose. Exercise, ranging from anything from a fast walk to a full gym session. While exercising I will listen to something positive, such as a podcast, audiobook or music that I neuro-associate with positivity. Shower, utilising a hot/cold technique of going from cold to hot in several 10 second bursts and then finishing on 30 seconds of cold. Breakfast while reading or watching something positive. Meditation. I know that may sound like a lot. And if you have kids, I appreciate that it can be a totally different ball game. But I invite you to try some kind of routine like this that would fit in and work for you. Just some way of looking after you in the mornings, as opposed to just allowing the day to take control of you. #2 I Utilise Awareness This may sound very weird, but I’ve grown accustomed to ‘watching’ myself and my thoughts. By that I mean I’ve practiced being aware and paying attention to what I’m thinking and how I’m feeling. Now you may wonder what good this does. But what I used to do was just allow myself to get bogged down, suppress the thoughts, distract myself and feel like it was never going to go away. Shining a light on what you are thinking, acknowledging that it exists and being present with it can be very powerful though. In an awesome conversation I had with Bob Buckley in Episode #15 of the podcast, he talks about a thought being just a thought. It’s not part of you and doesn’t belong to you and so you can simply watch it float by. In other words, the simple act of being aware of what’s going on inside your head and not pushing it deep down and ignoring thoughts and feelings can be extremely powerful. You can even go as far as writing down your thoughts. This often has the effect of us being able to take an objective look at them and to see them for what they really are. To further this even more, it’s important to note the importance and power of your “I am” statement. A great shift came in me when I started to ‘disown’ the label of ‘depression’ or ‘anxiety’. Saying “I have depression” or “I am depressed” creates a story in your head that this is part of you and that it is never going to leave. If we say “I am experiencing depressive thoughts or feelings right now” then this isn’t such a deeply ingrained, continual thing as saying “I am depressed”. #3 Using ‘Expressive Meditation’ I’ll be honest and say expressing myself and my emotions is something I have always struggled with and have only very recently embraced as part of mastering my mental and emotional health. But it is proving to be really, really effective. Elliot Hulse talks about depression stemming from suppression and a lack of self-expression. So this stems on nicely from the previous point about awareness. And to remember that being aware of your feelings, but still continuing to bottle everything up inside of you is a recipe for disaster. Now I’m not saying to go off and start flying off the handle with people expressing everything at any given moment. But rather to practice a regular expression of the feelings inside of you and releasing of tension, particularly when we are going through moments of depression. In fact, Elliot shares an immense ‘dynamic meditation’ to help with this in one of his many epic videos. Click here to check out his video (after you finish reading this post, of course ;) ) #4 I Give Myself Permission to Forgive Myself It is so easy to start thinking about the past and judging yourself for the mistakes you may have made. We create this feeling of self-loathing and self-judgement as we look back at decisions we ‘should’ have made, things we wish we did or didn’t say or directions we could have moved in. It’s as if we punish ourselves for things we’ve done in the past. And we go back there, relive it in our minds and just keep punishing ourselves over and over again. But something I’ve been practicing is the art of simply forgiving myself for mistakes or how I may have behaved in the past. Because I know that my past does not have to dictate my future, but it will if I choose it to. So I have officially given myself permission to forgive myself of shitty decisions, dick head behaviour and anything in my past that I previously created a feeling of repeated self-punishment over. Release that feeling. We are allowed to make mistakes. We can learn from them. But we do not need to carry them around with us like some shitty suitcase full of self-punishment. Learn. Let it go. And FORGIVE yourself. #5 I Prioritised Connection I’m naturally very introverted. And I mean properly introverted. As in, left to my own natural devices, I would probably be classed as some kind of recluse. I’m pretty happy to, most of the time, be by myself or with people I’m very close with. The only problem is that I sometimes allow this to go too far. There have been times in my past where I’ve gone completely within myself, focused solely on my work and completely disregarded any kind of social life or connection with other people. I’m sure there must have been times where I could have died and people wouldn’t have found out for days or weeks! And, in my experience, even as a deeply introverted person, this leaves a gaping hole inside you that is forever expanding. The only way to fill that hole is by connecting with others. I’m talking about genuinely connecting with people. Not simply showing up to a party and talking about the weather or what’s on TV. And this all starts from knowing and connecting with ourselves, discovering our own core values and figuring out who we are and what we believe about life. There was a point in my life where I just recognised that I was completely shutting the real me off from the world. So I simply made a sort of ‘pledge’ to myself to actually get over the fear of judgement and start trying to connect with people on a level I hadn’t done before. #6 I Monitor What Goes In & Out What I mean by this is that I don’t just passively sit by and allow any old garbage to go in to my head and also have become very aware of things I say and language that I use. I’m not going to completely rag on the news and all that stuff. If I’m honest, I do like to know what’s going on in the world and believe there’s a time and a place to expose yourself to it. But what I categorically will not do, or have stopped myself from doing, is constantly reading newspapers, listening to radio bulletins and watching the news at night. Yes, it’s very, very sad some of the stuff happening in the world and political things can affect us. I’m not attempting to ‘devalue’ it in any way. But being almost obsessed with getting more and more news, reading various opinion pieces and finding out more about what’s going on in the middle east or wherever and even allowing this stuff to be what enters your head at the start of every day is, to me, unnecessary. I don’t know about you, but it has a severe ‘bringing down’ effect on me and I don’t want to expose myself to at every possible opportunity. But I’m also starting to become more aware of what is actually coming out of my head as well as what’s going into it. What kind of language am I using? What am I saying in conversations? For example, “everything is fucked” or “this country is turning to shit” or “the economy is screwing me over” or “I feel like crap” or whatever. These are throw away comments that a lot of people use in conversation several times a day. And all it’s doing is reaffirming to yourself that there is something shitty going on. So I like to try and be as aware as possible of the kind of language I’m using and not use throw away comments like this when I don’t need to. #7 I Actually Practice Gratitude I wrote about this in the Facebook group last week. For some reason, I’ve always struggled to stay consistent when it comes to the ‘gratitude journals’ we’re all ‘told’ to do. Maybe I’m just a complete weirdo, but I always seem to write down what I’m grateful for and then subconsciously look away and say "look at all this shitty stuff going on over here though!" I feel like I’ve ‘ticked it off’ for the day and forget about it until the next day. What I’m trying to say is that I do the gratitude journal, but don’t really ‘feel’ the gratitude at the time and during the rest of the day. Now I know how important it is to show gratefulness and appreciation in our lives if we want to be happy and at peace. So rather than just say ‘this isn’t for me’ and ignore this whole gratitude thing, I’ve started doing something a little different. I’ve started actually trying to practice gratitude every day. What I mean by this is that I use each new environment I find myself in as a 'trigger' to remind myself of something I'm grateful for. This starts to 'train' my brain to be on the lookout for positivity and staying in that mentality of gratitude and appreciation. Because, after all, there's no point doing a 'gratitude journal' for five minutes every morning if you spend the other 23 hours and 55 mins of the day feeling like complete shit. So when I exit the bedroom in the morning, I am mentally ‘cued’ to show gratitude for something. The same when I enter the kitchen or go outside or go through the doors at the gym or go to the beach. Before you know it, you’ve built up a regular mental practice of showing gratitude in your life throughout your day. I’m not going to lie and say this instantly works. It takes practice and dedication to set up these ‘gratitude cues’ and you need to be prepared for the fact that you will forget them, miss some and sometimes just plain resist doing it. #8 I Remind Myself of the ‘Now’ I find it very, very easy to drift back in time (mentally, not literally) and start living in the past. I also find it just as easy to start thinking about the future and getting all anxious about things that could or might happen. Obviously, this is not a cool place to be in. It creates depressive feelings when looking backwards and anxious feelings when looking forwards. In order to pull myself out of this, I will literally stand up and start clicking my fingers and reminding myself to be in the present moment. Right now, everything can be okay if I choose it to be. It may sound completely mental, but it works. To Wrap Up This may be a lot to take in and feel overwhelming, particularly if you are struggling at the moment. But this is a simple invitation to you to begin finding what works for you and taking little steps forward towards improvement. If you feel like all of this is too much, then what can you implement? I certainly didn’t start out anywhere near perfect, and still am not perfect to this day! But this stuff really helps me. And hopefully it can help you too. In April 2012, Lisa Natoli, who had been "studying" A Course in Miracles for more than 20 years, decided to do something drastic—to DO what it says! She made a radical decision to shift her mind out of a place of doubt, fear, and worrying about lack of money to a state of love, peace, joy, and generosity. "A miracle is a shift in perception." She'd always "known" this intellectually, but she had never actually shifted her thinking, at least not consistently. So she conducted a five-week experiment to test run "changing her mind" and she gave it 100 percent effort. Her life dramatically changed in under 24 hours, and she has never gone back to her old way of living. Later she thought, "What EXACTLY did I do that caused such a dramatic change?" She came up with these six steps to super fast healing and abundance, which she outlines in complete detail in this conversation. If you are ready to change your life, tune in. There is a Power and Presence of Love with you that will heal every aspect of your life when you acknowledge it and deliberately work it. Lisa Natoli is a best-selling author of Gorgeous for God, creator of the popular 40-Day Online Program for Transformation, and cofounder of the Teachers of God Foundation.
