There Is No Business Outcome That Doesn't Involve People Revenue, innovation, customer experience, strategy execution — all of it runs through people. Angela's foundational belief is that HR, positioned correctly, is directly tied to every business result an organization needs. That framing changes everything about how the function shows up. 2. HR Started as Process — and Forgot About Influence Angela's diagnosis of how HR lost its seat at the table: the function got very good at processing and forgot about influencing. The path back is showing up with data, tying recommendations to business outcomes, and being part of the conversation rather than behind it. 3. Policy Should Be a Guideline, Not a Wall One of the most powerful lessons from Angela's early career: following policy to the letter can harm the very people HR is supposed to protect. The best people leaders ask "what else can we do?" before defaulting to what the handbook says. 4. Benefits Have Three Layers — and the Order Matters Layer 1: Foundations — comprehensive, affordable health, dental, and vision. Layer 2: Flexibility — in how, when, and where people work. Layer 3: Growth and recognition — opportunities to stretch, develop, and feel valued. Companies that skip to Layer 3 without nailing Layer 1 are building on sand. 5. Caregiver Benefits Are the Most Underrated Tool in Total Rewards Employees don't leave their home lives at the door. Sick parents, sick kids, and pets in need of care are constant sources of distraction and stress. Caregiver benefits that address these realities don't just help employees — they protect productivity and demonstrate that a company sees the whole person. 6. The Aging Parent Crisis Is Coming — Companies Aren't Ready As Baby Boomers age, a growing portion of the workforce will face elder care responsibilities that compete directly with their work. Companies that build caregiver support into their benefits now will be better positioned to retain experienced employees through one of the most stressful seasons of their lives. 7. Presenteeism Costs More Than Most Companies Realize Being at work — physically or virtually — is not the same as being engaged and productive. Angela's point on presenteeism is a sharp one: an employee who is worried about an aging parent, a sick child, or a personal crisis may be clocked in but effectively absent. That has a dollar value, and it belongs in the benefits ROI conversation. 8. Here's How to Pitch a CFO on Life Concierge Benefits Pull absence data. Calculate the cost of leave tied to caregiving responsibilities. Layer in the cost of replacing an employee who left because they didn't have the right support. Then present the cost of the benefit against those numbers. It's not a soft sell — it's a hard business case. 9. "My Company Took Care of Me" Is the Most Powerful Recruiting Tool You Have Word of mouth from employees who feel genuinely supported travels far. When people tell friends, former colleagues, and their networks that their company stepped up for them during a hard time, that's employer brand you can't manufacture with a marketing budget. CHAPTERS: 00:00 – Introduction Adam welcomes Angela Briggs-Paige, CPO and founder of People Power, and sets up a conversation about what modern HR leadership really looks like. 01:30 – From Pre-Med to People Leader Angela traces her unexpected path from biology major and aspiring doctor to discovering HR through a work-study job — and never looking back. 04:00 – Redefining What HR Is For Angela's core belief: there is no business outcome that doesn't involve people. How she flips the script on HR as a compliance function and positions it as a business driver. 06:30 – The Mentor Who Pushed Her The manager who challenged Angela to stop saying yes and start asking "what does this mean for the business?" — and how that changed her entire approach to the function. 09:00 – A Story She Wishes She Could Take Back Angela gets vulnerable about an early-career mistake: terminating an employee for exceeding their leave allotment instead of asking what else could be done — and what that taught her about the difference between policy and people. 12:30 – Policy as Guideline, Not Gospel How that experience shifted Angela's thinking on flexibility — and why the best people leaders treat policy as a framework to work within, not a wall to hide behind. 15:00 – The 3 Layers of Benefits That Actually Matter Angela's framework: Layer 1 is foundations (affordable health, dental, vision). Layer 2 is flexibility. Layer 3 is growth and recognition. Why the order matters as much as the content. 18:00 – The Case for Caregiver Benefits Why caregiver benefits — covering aging parents, sick kids, and pets — are among the most impactful and underutilized tools in total rewards, and what happens when employees don't have them. 21:00 – The Aging Parent Problem No One's Talking About Baby Boomers are aging. The workforce is about to face a caregiving crisis. Angela makes the case for why companies need to get ahead of it now — and what benefits can actually help. 23:30 – Peace of Mind as an ROI You can't buy peace of mind — but a company can offer it. How life concierge benefits reduce distraction, improve focus, and make employees feel genuinely cared for. 26:00 – Presenteeism: The Hidden Cost Nobody Measures One of the sharpest moments in the episode: Angela introduces presenteeism — being at work but mentally absent — and explains why it may cost more than absenteeism. 28:30 – How to Pitch a CFO on Life Concierge Benefits Angela's step-by-step framework: pull absence data, calculate leave costs, layer in retention math, and build a cost-benefit case that speaks the CFO's language. 31:00 – What's Lighting Angela Up Angela closes with what's giving her energy at Transform 2026: being surrounded by people leaders who genuinely care about making workplaces better.

Miriam Horn is an award-winning journalist and author whose work lives at the intersection of conservation, food production, and the people working—often quietly and pragmatically—to hold those worlds together. Many listeners will recognize her from her excellent book "Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman," a title that's come up repeatedly on this podcast for its nuanced look at how working lands and conservation can coexist. But her new book, "Homesick for a World Unknown: The Life of George B. Schaller," zooms out to tell the story of a man whose influence touches nearly every corner of modern wildlife biology. If you're like I was before reading this book, you may not fully appreciate the importance of George Schaller and his work—but it's hard to overstate his impact. If you're working in wildlife science today—whether studying elk in Wyoming or snow leopards in Central Asia—you're building on a foundation he helped create. He helped shift wildlife biology away from specimen collection and distant population management toward long-term, immersive observation rooted in patience and deep respect for animals in their natural environments. And beyond his own research, his legacy lives on through the countless scientists he mentored around the world, many of whom went on to lead conservation efforts in their home countries. In this conversation, Miriam and I explore Schaller's remarkable life and the long arc of his influence—from his early days in Alaska to his groundbreaking work with gorillas, big cats, and high-altitude species across the globe. We talk about the tension between conservation and human needs, the role of humility and local knowledge in effective wildlife protection, and what Miriam learned after nearly a decade spent researching and writing this biography. It's a wide-ranging conversation about one man's life, but also about the bigger question of how humans can live responsibly within the natural world. In this episode of Compared to Who?, Heather Creekmore welcomes Morgan Krueger to discuss the idea of living for something greater than ourselves, particularly through a Christ-centered lens. Morgan Krueger shares her personal journey from seeking the approval of others and wrestling with identity, to finding freedom in magnifying the Lord above all else—even during seasons of major life transition, including job changes, moving, and motherhood 00:53-03:16. Together, Heather Creekmore and Morgan Krueger explore themes such as the fear of man, the dangers of self-focus, and the liberating practice of self-forgetfulness inspired by Tim Keller's The Freedom of Self Forgetfulness 05:06-06:50. They discuss biblical stories, like Mary and Martha, and the difference between Christ's invitation to "come" and his command to "go," emphasizing the importance of being with Jesus before doing for Jesus 09:33-10:13. The conversation then delves into the tension Christian women feel between cultural pressures to be busy and productive and the biblical call to rest and trust 10:13-11:16. They candidly address the traps of shame and pride, the relentless pull to center life on self-glorification, and the continual invitation from Jesus to return, receive grace, and reorient towards Him 15:20-18:14. Heather Creekmore and Morgan Krueger highlight that our deepest issues with identity, approval, and body image are not just shaped by culture but by the condition of our hearts, and that true rest and purpose are found in magnifying God's name, not our own 24:29-26:03. Morgan Krueger introduces her new book, Made to Magnify: Choosing to Live for Jesus When Everything Tells You to Live for Yourself*, which explores these themes in greater depth and offers encouragement and practical guidance for women seeking to center their lives on Christ. The episode closes with information on how listeners can connect with Morgan Krueger and a reminder to focus less on comparison and more on living in the beautiful invitation to follow Jesus. *Amazon affiliate link. It fails because of poorly designed systems. - Abi's SERN framework reframes organizations as ecosystems, not machines. If the roots are toxic—lack of trust, poor leadership behaviors, invisible power dynamics—nothing built on top will thrive. - Psychological safety isn't about being agreeable. It's about creating an environment where honesty isn't punished, and where leaders are willing to admit they don't have all the answers. - Most organizations don't lack diverse perspectives—they lack the structures to surface them. The same voices dominate because the system rewards them. - Leaders looking for change don't need a massive initiative. They need to start by asking a simple question: who's not in the room, and why? - Finally, culture isn't owned by HR or leadership alone. It's shaped by every interaction, every decision, and every behavior that gets reinforced—or ignored. Dr. Saleh shares how his love for dentistry came from human connection and helping patients feel better, including people dealing with trauma, domestic violence, or cancer recovery. They explain how teeth age from clenching/grinding and enamel thinning, why whitening works less over time, and what helps most (custom night guard, strong oral hygiene, and an electric brush with pressure control). The shocking story of how seeds of destruction were sown into the foundations of America at the very beginning. How did slavery come about in the "land of the free" How did a native population of over eighteen million dwindle down to two hundred thousand? How did the American dream of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, turn into the American nightmare we have now of racism, genocide, and war? Who assassinated JFK, how, and why? How do drugs come into the country, and who is behind it? Other startling questions are explored here: Why were thousands of the Nazi Germany's worst war criminals given refuge in the U.S. Who really financed Hitler? This episode explores how naming shapes identity and discipleship at a deep level—spiritually, relationally, and even neurologically. Drawing from Scripture, lived experience, and the themes of Becoming Good News, the conversation traces how the names we receive—both true and false—form our sense of self, and how God invites us into a different story through His voice. They unpack how false identities take root, why our “I am” statements matter, and how practices like confession, repentance, and listening to God can lead to real transformation and a reclaimed identity grounded in truth. Eliza Swann discusses alchemy and art, focusing on what alchemy actually is and how it can be understood and practiced in a grounded and accessible way. She explains alchemy as a blend of hands-on work and inner awareness, describing how processes like making plant tinctures and pigments reflect deeper personal transformation, where the state of the practitioner directly influences the outcome. The conversation walks through key ideas such as the stages of alchemy, the meaning of the philosopher's stone, and how symbolic language and imagery can be used to shift perception and unlock creativity. Swann also shares the structure behind her book, The Alchemical Imagination, showing how these stages can be applied through simple practices, emotional awareness, and creative exercises rather than requiring advanced knowledge or a laboratory. Along the way, Lux and Eliza touch on historical figures like John Dee and the importance of working with materials and ideas in a respectful and engaged way, presenting alchemy as a practical path for developing awareness, creativity, and a deeper connection to the world.Eliza's new book, The Alchemical Imagination, will be released on May 4th, 2026. "The challenges around jet fuel and flight cuts are going to get worse in the region before they get better." As South East Asian countries face up to tough economic choices from the Middle East war fallout, Gary and Hannah head to Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and China to tackle this week's big travel questions. We begin by discussing Vietnam's radical reshaping of its travel landscape and the MoUs signed last week by President To Lam with China related to cross-border railway development and Chinese COMAC planes. Next to Malaysia, where another KLIA service mishap is making headlines - this time related to the breakdown of its luggage delivery system. We look at how Singapore tourism and passenger numbers on Singapore Airlines proved resilient during a challenging first quarter of the year. Plus, we address different environmental issues for the Komodo National Park in Indonesia and the Chocolate Hills in the Philippines. Finally, we return to Singapore to discuss the role of heritage in society and its travel industry as rising costs, an ageing population and general disinterest among younger generations question the viability of traditional businesses brought to the city-state by immigrants from across Asia that are an integral part of the Singapore story.
Matt and Jen discuss the concept of playing not to lose versus playing to win in various aspects of life, particularly in fitness and business. They emphasize the importance of setting ambitious goals to achieve true progress and transformation. Jen shares examples of clients with contrasting mindsets: one who set a safe goal of 175 pounds and struggled, and another who aimed for 135 pounds and achieved significant success. Matt recounts how a mentor's advice led him to raise his standards, which in turn transformed his business and personal life. They conclude that raising standards and playing to win leads to freedom and significant growth.Listen In!Thank you for listening to this episode of Ignite Your Impact! As referenced in the show you can visit our website at phenixmethod.comJoin our Private Group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/phenixmethodbodyandlifestyletransformations for lifestyle transformation hacks that the pros use.
If your spirituality still revolves around you… it's time to rethink everything. This week's energy exposes a deeper truth: real transformation begins the moment you stop centering your life around your ego. The discomfort you avoid, the reactions you justify, the “what about me?” thoughts you entertain—these are the very places where growth is waiting. This episode explores how letting go of the false self unlocks a higher level of love, clarity, and inner freedom—and why the moments that challenge you most are actually your greatest opportunities. Less about theory. More about real, daily practice. Because the shift isn't in changing your life—it's in changing who's running it.Join us for the next episode of Weekly Energy Boost with @ElishevaBalas and @EitanYardeni. Bio by Rick OlsonI'm an author, TEDx speaker, Distinguished Toastmaster, award-winning humorous speaker, and Salesforce Certified Professional. I've been married to the same wonderful woman for 35 years, and we've been through thick and thin together, literally and figuratively. My struggle with weight started early. My first diet was in 3rd grade, and by 6th grade, I was on NutriSystem at 200 pounds. That cycle of losing and regaining followed me into adulthood. About 10 years ago, everything came to a head when I landed in the ICU with a saddle embolism. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea, and left the hospital weighing 360 pounds.Since then, I have had some success with low-carb, keto, intermittent fasting, and ADF. I'd lose and get down to 280 or so, but I would end up gaining it back. I kept asking myself: I know what to do, so why can't I do it? Everything began to shift in October 2024 when I attended a workshop called The Stories We Live By. It helped me see how deeply my identity was shaped by the story of “being fat.” For the first time, I approached change with curiosity instead of criticism. Istarted studying my own patterns. What worked, what didn't. When did I have motivation, when did I lose it. Instead of following someone else's plan, I built a system around how I'm wired. One key realisation: I thrive on external accountability. So instead of fighting that, I leaned into it and started documenting my journey publicly on my YouTube channel, @justbelessfat. Since launching in November 2025, I've lost about 50 pounds. More importantly, I've shifted from shame and frustration to a sense of daily progress.I still face challenges, but thanks to the lens of self-curiosity, I learn and adjust. If God has already changed what's true about you, why does it still feel like you're living the same old story? In Romans 6:8–14, Paul exposes the gap between our new reality in Jesus and the “old maps” we keep following—and shows how real transformation begins by learning to think differently. This sermon invites you to name the lies you've been believing, intentionally rehearse the truth, and start living from the identity God has already given you.Catch the sermon on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or bridge.tv/sermons.To support this ministry and help us continue our God given mission, click here: http://bit.ly/2NZkdrC Support the show

Alchemy is far more than the myth of turning lead into gold. In this video, I explore how alchemy developed across Hellenistic Egypt, China, India, the Islamic world, and Europe as a rich tradition that united experiment, medicine, cosmology, and spiritual transformation. We look at major alchemical ideas, key historical figures, and the practices that shaped both occult traditions and the emergence of modern chemistry. This lecture also examines the major scholarly debates around alchemy, showing why historians no longer see it simply as failed science or pure mysticism, but as a complex way of understanding matter, knowledge, and the transformation of the self.CONNECT & SUPPORT

Send us Fan MailThis conversation with Diana Esther explores the concept of the “diamond within,” emphasizing that every individual carries an innate brilliance and purpose that is often obscured by conditioning, fear, and external focus. She explains that life is not happening to us but through us, and that true transformation begins when individuals reconnect with their soul, shifting from limitation to empowerment. By reframing fear as a transformable force and understanding relationships, illness, and life challenges as mirrors and teachers, Diana highlights the importance of inner work, emotional expression, and conscious living as pathways to fulfillment, authenticity, and spiritual awakening. His employees are busy throwing a Christmas party. And this is when we find out this is a musical. Honestly, had no idea. Scrooge fires everyone except his accountant Bob Cratchit. He reluctantly gives Bob an advance on next month's pay so he can buy presents for his kids. Scrooge hates Christmas. When he gets home, he thinks he sees something on the door, but it's nothing. Except when he goes to go to sleep, he hears a loud bang on the door. It's the ghost of his old business partner, Jacob Marley. Marley warns Scrooge that he better change his ways OR ELSE! To help him, he will be visited by three spirits throughout the night. Scrooge is like whatever and falls asleep. He is woken up by the ghost of Christmas past. It's Eva Longoria, DUH! She projects images of where he grew up in Africa with his best friend Akiiki. We see him and his family learn the news that all Asians must leave the country within 90 days. Scrooge is forced to watch his father die and other bad stuff. But it's not all bad. We see him at his first job, falling in love, proposing. She shows him what happened to her but he's not interested. He insists that he regrets nothing! It's time for the ghost of Christmas present! He's fun. He's funky. He's Billy Porter. He shows him the Cratchit house on Christmas who is discussing Scrooge. Bob says he's just sick. Something is broken inside of him. Then he sees his nephew at a Christmas party, mocking Scrooge, and dancing big. Suddenly, the ghost of Christmas future. Obviously, it's Boy George. And he is joined by Billy Porter for a duet while Eva Longoria stands there awkwardly. He discovers his death, but more importantly the death of Tiny Tim. He promises he will change. He wakes up and it's Christmas. HE DIDN'T MISS IT! He goes to give money to everyone. And they all meet up to celebrate at the Christmas carnival. How streets are transformed into safer, more inviting places is messy and difficult. This fascinating new documentary dives deep into the details of just such a transformation in New York City, and the results are beautiful and inspiring, yet frustrating on so many levels. You'll ask: "Why does it have to be so hard?" and then you'll see the very human responses to the prospect of change and how the advocates for safer streets navigate the minefield of barriers to progress.Helpful Links (note that some may include affiliate links to help me support the channel):

Larry Ostola speaks with Barbara Messamore about her book Times of Transformation. Times of Transformation positions the watershed 1921 federal election in the context of activist efforts and the revolutionary mood in the years following the Great War. New Liberal leader William Lyon Mackenzie King, who went on to become Canada's longest-serving prime minister, came to power, with his party capturing every Quebec seat. The 1921 election brought many Canadian firsts: the first post-Confederation minority government, the first time women were eligible to vote on terms equal to men, and the first effective fracturing of the two-party system, with the establishment of a federal Labour party and the dramatic rise of the Progressives. In her engaging, in-depth account, Barbara Messamore shows how these changes had been brewing at the activist level even before the end of the war. The Progressive party owed its success to the increasing politicization of farmers and the importance of tariff policy, freight rates, and grain prices to the western voting base. Suffrage came after a decades-long battle for political rights for women. Labour strikes swept the nation in the post–Great War era, and a new national Labour party gained Commons representation. The 1921 election in Canada was a manifestation of long-building forces for change that embodied the global zeitgeist of postwar disillusionment and hope. Barbara Messamore's detailed exploration of this turning point election will appeal to those interested in history, biography, and the evolution of Canadian democracy Barbara J. Messamore is a professor of history and department chair at the University of the Fraser Valley. She is the author of Canada's Governors General, 1847–1878 and coauthor of Narrating a Nation: Canadian History Post-Confederation and Conflict and Compromise: Pre-Confederation Canada. On this episode of the Play It Brave podcast, I'm taking a conversation I started on Instagram and going deeper into something I care deeply about: manifestation, intuition, and personal power. Because here's the truth, I don't believe you when you say you don't know who you are or what you want. I say that with love. What I've found, both in my own life and in working with so many of you, is that "not knowing" is often a protection mechanism. It's a way we stay safe from the courage, change, and disruption that comes with actually claiming what we want. So today, I'm breaking down what manifestation really is and what it is not, why your intuition isn't missing, and how subconscious patterns may be quietly running your life and your business. Key Takeaways Manifestation isn't broken. You're just stuck on the first floor Writing lists, vision boards, and affirmations aren't wrong. They are just the beginning. True co-creation requires stepping into your power as a sovereign adult, not staying in a childlike wish and hope dynamic. Most of what you think you want isn't actually yours Your dream life may be shaped by culture, family, religion, or social media. Real manifestation begins when you ask: is this truly my desire, or something I've been taught to want? You don't lack intuition. You're afraid to follow it Intuition often asks you to make hard choices, face uncertainty, or let go of what feels safe. Most people don't want clearer intuition. They want a version that guarantees comfort and certainty. "I don't know what I want" is often a protective pattern When following your truth feels too costly, whether emotionally, financially, or socially, you learn to shut it down. Not knowing becomes a way to avoid the consequences of knowing. Your power leaks in three key places Will I still belong if I change? Will I be safe financially, physically, or emotionally? Will I be judged, envied, or rejected if I grow? Subconscious patterns shape what you believe you're allowed to have Whether it's tying love to achievement, suppressing your needs, or making yourself smaller to be accepted, these patterns directly impact what you try to manifest. You can't out-strategize a subconscious block No marketing plan, sales funnel, or branding strategy can override beliefs like "I'm not allowed to be seen" or "I have to earn love." This is identity work, not just business strategy. Receiving is often harder than giving Many of us are conditioned to overgive because it feels safe. Receiving love, support, money, and rest can feel uncomfortable or even threatening to the nervous system. Transformation happens in the body, not just the mind Real change comes from identifying and rewriting subconscious agreements you made long ago. It is not just about thinking differently, but embodying something new. You likely already know your path. You've just been choosing not to know The real question isn't what you want. It's whether you're willing to stop avoiding it and become the person who can hold it. If there's one thing I want you to take with you, it's this: You are not lost. You are not confused. You are not lacking clarity. You already know. Maybe not every detail, but the direction, the desire, the truth of who you are has been there for a long time. The real work is having the courage to release the patterns that have been keeping you small. Manifestation is not about asking for more. It is about becoming the version of you who can receive it. Stijn Schmitz welcomes Colonel Douglas Macgregor to the show. Douglas is a retired U.S. Army Colonel & Decorated Combat Veteran. In a comprehensive analysis, Macgregor provides a dire assessment of the current geopolitical and economic landscape, focusing on the potential escalation of conflict in the Middle East and its global implications. Macgregor warns of a severe global crisis emerging from ongoing tensions, particularly highlighting the devastating impact on the global energy and fertilizer markets. He explains that approximately 15-20 million barrels of oil have been removed from the market, and 35% of global fertilizer production has been disrupted. This disruption could lead to widespread food shortages, potential famines in the global south, and significant economic challenges for countries worldwide. The discussion centers on the potential for a massive air and missile campaign against Iran, which Macgregor believes could be catastrophically counterproductive. He argues that Iran has substantially rebuilt its military capabilities, with an estimated 45-50,000 drones and 15-20,000 ballistic and cruise missiles, supported by improved air defense systems from China and Russia. Macgregor critically examines the motivations behind the potential conflict, suggesting it stems from Israeli demands and pressure from what he calls the “Zionist billionaire class.” He emphasizes the potential economic consequences, including a possible global recession or depression, disruptions in shipping, and severe energy shortages. The conversation also delves into broader economic implications, including the potential death of the petrodollar, resource nationalism, and the importance of hard assets like gold and silver. Macgregor strongly advises investors to prepare for challenging times by investing in tangible assets and maintaining cash reserves. Ultimately, he calls for rational leadership to prevent a potential humanitarian disaster, warning that the current trajectory could lead to significant global instability and economic upheaval. Macgregor’s analysis presents a stark and sobering view of the current geopolitical and economic landscape. In 2020, the President appointed Macgregor to serve as Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Defense, a post he held until President Trump left office. He holds an MA in comparative politics and a PhD in international relations from the University of Virginia. Macgregor is widely known inside the U.S., Europe, Israel, Russia, China and Korea for both his leadership in the Battle of 73 Easting, the U.S. Army's largest tank battle since World War II, and for his ground breaking books on military transformation: Breaking the Phalanx (Praeger, 1997) and Transformation under Fire (Praeger, 2003). Don't Be Afraid, I Am: Walking on Water & the Bread of Life – John 6:16–71 In this episode of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane journey through John 6:16–71, where Jesus reveals both His power over the storm and His identity as the Bread of Life. From walking on water to declaring “I am the bread of life,” this passage invites us to trust Him not just for provision—but for everything. As the crowd wrestles with His words and many turn away, Jamie and Jane unpack the tension between following Jesus for what He gives versus trusting Him for who He is. This conversation challenges listeners to move beyond surface-level faith and choose belief—even when it's hard to understand. Because in the end, the question remains: Will we walk away—or will we stay? Am I following Jesus for what He can do—or for who He is? ____________________________________ Connect with Jamie: Website: www.jamieklusacek.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jamieklusacek Connect with Jane: Website: www.janewwilliams.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/janewwilliams
Big Idea Great coaching isn't about having the best answers—it's about creating the kind of space where clients discover their own. The difference between average and masterful coaching comes down to mindset, humility, and how deeply you engage the person—not just the problem. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why the coaching mindset requires intentional preparation The surprising role of humility in great coaching The difference between coaching the problem vs. coaching the person What separates ACC, PCC, and MCC-level coaching How to help clients create real ownership and action Why awareness (not advice) drives transformation Key Conversation Highlights 1. Coaching Is a Mindset—Not Just a Skill Coaching requires a deliberate shift in thinking Before each session: Step out of expert mode Step into curiosity and presence Core belief: The client is resourceful and capable 2. The Humility Behind Great Coaching Strong coaching starts with: "Maybe I don't know" Not a lack of knowledge—but a recognition that: The client knows their context best Key Insight: Coaching isn't about being right—it's about helping the client move forward. 3. Why Advice Doesn't Work (and Ownership Does) People rarely act on someone else's solution "No one washes a rental car" → people don't invest in what they don't own Shift: From giving answers → to creating ownership 4. Questions vs. Observations Two powerful coaching tools: Curious questions Neutral observations Goal: Not compliance—but new awareness 5. What Separates Good Coaches from Great Ones ACC-Level (Foundational Coaching) Focus on: The problem Action steps PCC-Level (Professional Coaching) More: Client-led direction Mid-session check-ins Learning awareness MCC-Level (Master Coaching) Focus shifts to: The person Beliefs, motivations, identity Internal transformation Key Shift: From "What should you do?" → to "Who are you becoming?" 6. The Power of Learning in Coaching Great coaches ask: "What did you learn about yourself?" "What did you learn about the situation?" Why it matters: Reinforces growth Builds confidence Fuels better action 7. Coaching the Whole Person (Not Just Words) Master-level coaching includes: Tone Pace Energy Body language Example: "I noticed your pace picked up—what's happening there?" 8. Coaching vs. Therapy (The Line) Coaching may touch the past—but: Doesn't stay there Uses it to move forward Key Idea: You don't ignore deeper issues—you acknowledge them so progress is possible 9. The Goal of Coaching Not: Being right Fixing everything But: Creating value Helping clients take meaningful, sustainable action Key Takeaways Great coaching is built on humility, curiosity, and trust The client must own the solution for it to stick Awareness is more powerful than advice Master coaches focus less on problems and more on people Transformation happens when clients: See clearly Think differently Act intentionally

EP 678: Darin Hardy Level Seven High Terrain “You can’t half-ass walking on uneven ground—and that lesson translates to everything: relationships, fatherhood, business, life.” What’s up everyone! This week I’m sitting down with Darin Hardy, and man, this conversation goes places I didn’t expect. Darin is a former Marine Corps special operations guy who spent 20 years and 13 deployments in the military, and now he’s using horses, nature, and even AI to help executives and leaders transform their lives. Yeah, you heard that right—AI and horses. Stay with me here. This episode sits right at the intersection of ancient wisdom and cutting-edge technology. Darin breaks down how he’s using emotionally intelligent AI to help distill his thoughts and experiences in the field, then using horses as living mirrors to reflect back what people need to see about themselves. It’s wild, it’s different, and it’s honestly one of the most unique approaches to coaching I’ve ever heard. We dive deep into what Darin calls “window moments”—those rare experiences in nature where you feel like you’re between worlds. He shares two incredibly powerful stories: one about syncing with a horse at 16 years old and losing all sense of where he ended and the horse began, and another about a forked-horn mule deer that walked within arm’s reach and taught him he had permission to forge his own path. These aren’t just cool hunting stories—they’re formative moments that shaped how he shows up in the world. But this isn’t all woo-woo spiritual stuff. Darin gets tactical too. He talks about hitting the wall on day five of an elk hunt, using “I am” statements to shift from doing to being, and how those three words helped him arrow a bull when he was ready to quit. We also get into the difference between power over versus partner with, why he cried in a pasture when three horses wouldn’t let him catch them, and what that taught him about 20 years of narratives he’d been carrying. One of my favorite parts of this conversation is when Darin talks about being “porous”—how life doesn’t just happen to you or for you, but through you. And how as outdoorsmen, we’re naturally land-informed and nature-informed, which gives us this unique lens to filter everything else in life. It’s the same reason I believe elk hunting teaches you more about business and life than most MBA programs ever could. If you’re someone who’s looking for transformation, willing to get uncomfortable, and open to the idea that horses and mountains might teach you more about yourself than any boardroom ever will, this episode is for you. Darin’s work is for people who refuse to live small lives—people who want authentic experiences, not hand-fed success. https://www.level7highperformance.com/retreats?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss Sponsors Tricer – I run Tricer gear for a reason. One of my favorite products is the RP Bipod—a legit hunting bipod with all the high-end features you’d expect. At 10.5 ounces, it’s lightweight enough for any hunt. Comes with long legs, short legs, works on Picatinny or Arca. For $350, it’s a no-brainer. I’ve shot a ton of critters off mine. Head to tricer.com and use code TRO to save 10%. OnX Hunt – The new weather feature is a game-changer. Instead of checking weather for the nearest town, you can tap anywhere on the mountain and get hyperlocal weather data that takes topography into account. See wind variations across different parts of your hunting area. Become an Elite member at onxmaps.com and use code TRO to save 20%. Timestamps 00:00 – Intro: Ancient tech meets AI 05:15 – Darin’s military background: 20 years, 13 deployments 11:30 – From infantry to special operations 16:45 – Transitioning out and the two things he promised himself 22:20 – How passion becomes your job (whether you want it to or not) 28:40 – Being “porous” – life flowing through you, not just to you 34:15 – The horse window moment at 16: losing boundaries 40:30 – The mule deer at arm’s reach: permission to forge your own path 46:50 – Hong Kong beach: glowing plankton and Disney magic 52:10 – Flow state in the red zone: from doing to being 58:35 – Using AI to distill “I am” statements 1:03:20 – Day five of the Idaho hunt: hitting the wall 1:08:45 – Three horses that wouldn’t let him catch them 1:12:30 – Power over vs. partner with 1:16:00 – Level Seven High Terrain and authentic experiences 1:20:15 – Cow elk hunts as transformation: range day to butchering Three Key Takeaways Shift From Doing to Being – Darin uses AI-assisted coaching to help people create “I am” statements instead of “I do” goals. When he was exhausted on day five of an elk hunt, ready to quit, he repeated “I’m resilient, I’m flexible” as he climbed—pointing himself back to a state of being rather than performance. Ten minutes later, he arrowed a bull at 20 yards. The power isn’t in what you do, it’s in who you are. Those qualities remain true regardless of whether you punch your tag or eat it. Horses and Nature as Mirrors – Horses don’t lie. When Darin returned to Montana after 20 years in the military with this narrative of “this is my pot of gold,” three well-trained horses wouldn’t let him within 50 feet. He broke down crying in knee-high grass because they were reflecting back his energy—he’d come with an agenda, never asking what the horses’ agenda was. The next day, he left the halter at the gate, walked into the pasture with just a brush, and said “I’m here with fresh, if anyone wants something, come get it.” Within 10 minutes, all three horses were standing around him. Power over vs. partner with—that’s the lesson. Give Yourself Permission to Feel Something Different – Transformation isn’t about knowing what to do differently. It’s about giving yourself permission to feel something different. When you’re willing to accept the pain of change more than the pain of staying the same, you’re ready. Darin’s “window moments” in nature—with horses, with deer, with glowing plankton on a Hong Kong beach—gave him permission to see himself differently. You can’t half-ass walking on uneven ground, and that lesson translates to everything: relationships, fatherhood, business, life.
