It's easy to believe that having more money would fix everything—that if we just had enough, life would finally feel secure, peaceful, and even meaningful. From lotteries to luxury ads, our world constantly tells us that more wealth is the goal. But Scripture invites us to ask a better question: not how much money do I have?—but why do I want it in the first place?Money itself isn't the problem. Scripture never condemns wealth. But it does warn us about the heart behind it. The late Larry Burkett, a mentor to many in biblical finance, once said there are seven reasons people pursue wealth—and six of them can lead us astray. Why? Because when money becomes our focus, it often takes the place of God.Before we talk about how to use it, we need to ask: What's driving us to accumulate it?1. ConformitySome pursue wealth simply because everyone else is. Whether from family pressure or cultural expectations, they chase money without asking if it's what God wants.Romans 12:2 reminds us: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” God calls us to live in alignment with His Kingdom—not the world's standards.2. EnvyOthers look at their neighbor's lifestyle and crave the same.Ecclesiastes 4:4 says: “All toil and all achievement spring from one person's envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”Envy leaves us restless—always reaching, never resting.3. CompetitionFor some, wealth is a scoreboard. It's not about having enough—it's about having more than others. But when competition drives us, life becomes a race, and people become obstacles. Philippians 2:3 offers a better way: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”Kingdom living doesn't play to win—it plays to serve.4. EgoMany tie wealth to identity. They want to be seen as successful, admired, and important. Even their giving can become a form of self-promotion.Paul redirects us in 1 Timothy 6:17: “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth … but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”Wealth isn't a trophy—it's a tool.5. Love of MoneySome simply love money. They obsess over their accounts and fear losing it.1 Timothy 6:10 warns: “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” This isn't about having money—it's about being ruled by it.6. SecurityOthers pursue wealth out of fear. Wealth can create the illusion of safety.Proverbs 18:11 says: “The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale.”But that security is imagined. Real peace doesn't come from what we've saved, but from the One who holds us.7. Generosity: The One Good ReasonSo, what's the one God-honoring reason to build wealth? To give it away.Generosity flows from a heart that sees money not as a possession to protect, but as a tool to serve. Jesus summarized this in Matthew 22:37–39: “Love the Lord your God … and love your neighbor as yourself.”Dr. Justo González notes in Teach Us to Pray that when we ask for “our daily bread” in the Lord's Prayer, it's a communal request. If we have more than we need today, it's not accidental—it's providential. What's in your hands may be God's answer to someone else's prayer.St. Augustine put it this way: “Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder is needed by others.”The early church modeled this in Acts 4:34: “There was not a needy person among them.”The Call to StewardshipBuilding wealth isn't about hoarding or raising our net worth. It's about aligning resources with God's purposes and becoming participants in His provision for others. When financial goals are rooted in love for God and neighbor, wealth becomes a ministry—not a measure of success.Let God reshape your reason for building wealth, and discover the joy of using what He's given you to bless others and glorify Him.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'd like to understand what a real estate investment trust (REIT) is and how it works, especially in relation to my retirement savings. Do REITs tend to lose value over time?I'm thinking about selling my house and moving into a 55-plus community. Would it make sense to use the equity from my home to pay off my mortgage and credit card debt, thereby simplifying my finances?I'm trying to set up a trust and would like to know what to expect in terms of pricing. Is there a standard fee, or are there other factors I should be considering? My husband recently passed away and left me a significant amount of money. Since he handled all our finances, I'm unsure whether I should invest in annuities or spread the money across various investments. What would you recommend?I received a letter from the IRS about a retirement account in another state that I'd completely forgotten about. I've tried contacting my former employer, but can't locate the account. But here's the good news: you don't have to just accept that as the norm. I'm sitting down with Juli Pyle, a certified nurse midwife who has helped her small, rural hospital keep their C-section rate at just 12% (I know, jaw drop, right?). Together, we're pulling back the curtain on what's really working—things like midwives and OBs actually collaborating as a team, evidence-based care that puts families first, and a hospital culture that truly values physiological birth. Juli was a stay at mom for many years to five children before deciding to return to school to pursue a degree in nursing. She graduated from Colorado Mesa University with a bachelors of science in nursing degree in 2016 and then began her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse. She quickly discovered that this was her true passion (as she had suspected since birthing her own children) and rapidly gained a reputation for professionalism, compassion and expertise among colleagues and patients. She then returned to Frontier Nursing University to complete a Master's degree in Nursing with an emphasis in midwifery. In 2020, she began her career as a certified nurse-midwife at a small community hospital in central Pennsylvania where she has been since that time. Her focus as a CNM is to provide evidence-based education to all birthing families, give true autonomy and informed consent throughout their time with her and to share love, understanding, empathy and true shared-decision making. Juli also currently serves on the Pennsylvania MMRC (maternal mortality review committee). When not immersed in the birthing world, she enjoys spending time refinishing furniture, gardening, raising chickens, hiking and vacationing with her husband and family. He explains how desire arises, evolves, and often fades once fulfilled — yet rarely brings lasting satisfaction. Drawing on Pali concepts like Tanha (craving) and Chanda (interest or inclination), Bhante highlights how our desires can be shaped by culture, ego, and personal perception, and how awareness plays a key role in relating to them skillfully. Whether desire feels positive or negative, its true nature lies in how we engage with it.

When you have been through something hard, such as grief, trauma, or a season of disconnection in your life, it is easy to forget what wholeness feels like. You lose touch with the part of you that still knows peace, still feels love, and still remembers who you were before the story changed. In this episode, I talk with Sarah Tobin about what it means to remember yourself. Not in a vague or inspirational way, but as an intentional, embodied healing process. Sarah's journey with tapping began after the loss of her daughter. What followed was a deep and personal transformation that led her to write a book designed to help others reconnect with themselves. This is not just about feeling better, it is about living more truthfully. Sarah makes a clear case for tapping as a spiritual tool that is well beyond its use as a tool for emotional regulation. We explore how healing is both an act of self-compassion and a choice to take responsibility for your path forward. Key Takeaways From the Conversation: Tapping helps you come home to yourself Sarah explains how trauma creates layers of belief and protection that separate you from your core. Tapping helps release those layers so you can reconnect with what is already whole inside you. Your stories shape your world You can change them. Most of the beliefs you live by were created early and without your awareness. Sarah shares how to trace these beliefs back to their origin, question them, and choose something different. Ego is not your enemy Instead of fighting resistance, Sarah teaches people to invite the ego into the healing process. Tapping with the ego helps reduce fear and brings internal safety, which makes deeper change easier. Healing is your responsibility, not your fault This part of the conversation speaks directly to anyone who has blamed themselves for their pain. Sarah offers a more honest view. You did not cause your suffering, but your healing is something you have the power to choose. Grief and love can exist together Sarah's story is rooted in personal loss. Her book is more than a tool. It is a lived offering of what happens when you let your pain become a path to deeper connection and purpose. Sarah's clarity and presence offer something rare. If you have ever felt stuck in your healing or unsure how to move forward, this conversation gives you a place to begin. Support the podcast! Ego reclamation might sound contradictory to Islamic spiritual teachings, yet for Muslim women, it represents a critical step toward mental health and authentic faith. This episode challenges conventional wisdom about ego work by introducing a revolutionary concept: ego as a tool that can be picked up when needed and put down when not.Drawing from Islamic spiritual tradition, we explore the three states of nafs (ego) - the commanding self that urges toward sin, the reproaching self that swings between mistakes and regret, and the tranquil self in a state of peace. What if developing a healthy ego doesn't make you a selfish Muslim woman, but instead anchors you more firmly in your faith? The dominant spiritual language around ego - crushing it, controlling it, suppressing it - was primarily designed for men's spiritual struggles. For women already socialized to erase themselves, this approach causes harm rather than healing. When a Muslim woman struggles with voicelessness, people-pleasing, or hyper-responsibility, the solution isn't further ego diminishment but thoughtful reclamation. This episode distinguishes between true humility and ongoing humiliation, clarifying that submission in Islam means erasing yourself before Allah alone - not before other people.Discover how to discern when to strengthen your ego (setting boundaries, speaking up) versus when to dissolve it (in prayer, deep connection). A woman grounded in her values through a healthy ego becomes difficult to mistreat - not because she's confrontational, but because she's anchored in a dignity that recognizes manipulation and shame for what they are. Join us as we explore this path to mental health that honors both your personhood and your faith commitment.=======================================================================================Wisdom Wednesdays is your chance to apply what you learn in this podcast. Ego Death, Business Rebirth   When Success Isn't Enough: Vince Covino on Killing the Ego and Leading with Heart   What if the very beliefs that drove your success are the same ones keeping you from peace? Many high achievers wake up one day with money in the bank but an emptiness in their soul. They followed the rules—worked harder, earned more, and climbed the ladder—only to find that fulfillment doesn't live at the top. Vince Covino knows that battle intimately. His story is a blueprint for what happens when you dismantle everything—ego, dogma, and old programming—to build a life rooted in alignment, love, and purpose.   Vince went from chasing “false profits” to living as a heart-centered leader. His transformation didn't come from another business tactic or financial win—it came from questioning every belief he inherited, shedding ego, and investing in his own inner world. Today, Vince teaches entrepreneurs that the greatest ceiling in business is not operational—it's personal. Break through the ego, and the business (and life) follows.   Pillar-Aligned Takeaways:  [Purpose] Challenge Your Programming: Most of what we believe about success, money, and identity was installed before age 8. Vince urges us to confront those scripts—because until you question them, they run the show. [Faith/Inner World] The Power of Ego Death: Your ego guards the doorway to growth. Vince's story shows how humiliation, criticism, and deep inner work can become the very tools that dismantle ego and create lasting peace. [Relationships] Truth with Love (The Lotus Sword): Business breakthroughs follow personal ones. Vince shares how learning to deliver truth with compassion strengthens trust, deepens leadership, and transforms culture. [Wealth] Omni-Win Capitalism: Putting people first—employees, customers, and community—creates sustainable profit. As Vince explains, heart-centered leadership is not anti-profit. It's the ultimate profit strategy.   Money Learning: Vince's biggest money revelation? Profit is not proof of alignment. He once believed wealth was a sign of God's favor. Now, he sees it as a tool—a byproduct of serving people and living authentically. When you prioritize purpose and relationships, profit follows naturally.   Guest Bio: Vince Covino leads by example, where business mastery meets heart-centered, transformational leadership. As the visionary CEO of WarriorSage, he helps entrepreneurs scale while staying aligned with their values. Vince has scaled multiple companies to eight figures, raised over $50 million in capital, and guided countless founders toward integrating purpose, leadership, and legacy.   Links: Website: www.warriorsage.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@VinceCovino LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/vince-covino-55ba0025/   Key Discussion Points: Escaping the prison of dogma and discovering inner truth. How plant medicine and mentorship accelerated Vince's transformation. The relationship between ego death and true leadership. Why investing in your inner world pays the highest returns. The future of business: heart-centered leadership and AI. How shifting from shareholder value to stakeholder value unlocks profit and impact. Why deep relationships and community are the ultimate success metrics.   If Vince's story challenged the way you see success, share this episode with a leader or entrepreneur in your world who needs to hear it. The shift from ego-driven to heart-centered leadership isn't just personal—it's how we change the culture of business itself.   #RicherSoul #HeartCenteredLeadership #EgoDeath #EntrepreneurMindset #InnerWealth #PurposeOverProfit #AlignedLiving #SoulShift   Watch the full episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@richersoul Richer Soul Life Beyond Money. Send us a textWhat if the secret to great parenting wasn't found in perfect discipline strategies or elaborate educational plans, but in simply showing up? Tyler White, BDR with Akkodis and host of the Timeout with Leaders podcast, brings a refreshingly authentic perspective to fatherhood that will make you rethink your approach to family leadership.Growing up as the son of a high school football coach, Tyler learned early that commitments weren't optional—they were sacred. "The word commitment was like the real C-word in my family," he shares with a laugh. This foundation shaped him profoundly, but it's his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Ella who's teaching him the most valuable lessons now. Watching her play with zero expectations has awakened his inner child and reminded him that sometimes the best leadership happens when we let go of control. The conversation takes powerful turns as Tyler recounts meeting his wife in sixth-grade church group, losing touch for twenty years, and then reconnecting through Facebook to build a beautiful family together. He vulnerably shares his growth areas as a dad, particularly in fully appreciating the challenges his wife faces as a stay-at-home mom. "Really understanding how much effort and energy that takes out of somebody and always remembering that," he reflects, is his ongoing work.Perhaps most compelling is Tyler's story about learning service from a colleague who drove twenty hours to help someone move without seeking recognition. "When you tell people about your serving, the grace is gone," the colleague explained—a principle that transformed Tyler's approach to both business and fatherhood. His three guiding principles—show up consistently, serve without expectations, and don't take yourself too seriously—offer a powerful framework for any dad looking to strengthen their family leadership.Whether you're a new father finding your footing or a seasoned dad seeking renewed purpose, this conversation will inspire you to embrace the joy of fatherhood without the pressure of perfection. Reflect Forward

Ever wanted to send that scathing email or slam the door shut after someone disappointed you? We all have. But here's the hard truth: Don't burn that bridge—your future self might need it. In this episode of Reflect Forward, I dive into one of the most overlooked leadership strategies: choosing compassion over retaliation, even when you feel wronged. Especially when you feel wronged. Because the way you show up during conflict doesn't just define your character—it shapes your future opportunities. The Real Reason We Lash Out—and Why We Must Resist When someone quits unexpectedly, underdelivers, or betrays your trust, your brain goes into fight-or-flight mode. The amygdala floods your system with cortisol. Logic shrinks. Ego inflates. We react from fear, not clarity. But strong leaders don't lead from reactivity. They lead from ownership. Unfortunately, business culture conditions us to compete at all costs. We're taught to dominate, win, and protect what's “ours.” That scarcity mindset convinces us that success is limited—and anyone who threatens ours must be the enemy. But real leadership requires a different path. Mic Drop Moment: “You don't need to win every time to be successful. You need to lead every time with integrity.” The Law of Unexpected Returns Here's the magic: the kindness you extend today often circles back to benefit you later. Sometimes years later. Maybe it's the employee you part ways with gracefully who refers top talent to you later. Or the competitor you treat respectfully who becomes your partner in a surprising venture. The point is: you never know. And in tight-knit industries, your reputation is your currency. Mic Drop Moment: “Every interaction is a seed—and the most valuable harvests come from the bridges you didn't burn.” Compassion Isn't Weakness. It's Strategy. Forgiveness doesn't mean condoning poor behavior. It means not carrying resentment. You can set boundaries and still choose compassion. You can walk away from someone and still treat them with grace. Mic Drop Moment: “Just because the relationship looks like this today doesn't mean it will look like this forever.” The long game of leadership means leaving the door open—even if it's only a crack. Five Ways to Lead With Compassion—Even When It's Hard 1. Pause before reacting. Ask yourself: “What's the story I'm telling myself right now?” 2. Assume positive intent. Even if you're hurt. Especially if you're hurt. 3. Use “I” statements. Lead with your truth, not with blame. 4. Reach out with grace. A kind message can shift everything. 5. Zoom out. Will this matter five years from now? How do you want to be remembered? Key Takeaways • Lashing out is human. Leading with ownership is leadership. • Scarcity thinking creates enemies. Long-term thinking builds networks. • Your reputation travels. People remember how you made them feel. • Grace is strategic. Leave room for future reconnection. • Forgiveness fosters emotional maturity, team health, and future growth. Call to Action: Lead With Integrity, Even in Discomfort Think of one person you've mentally written off. Someone you feel hurt by. Ask yourself: • What kind of relationship would I want with them in five years? • What's one small act of compassion I can offer—today? Maybe it's a message. Maybe it's just letting go. Either way, take the high road. Because your future self just might thank you. Connect with Kerry Don't forget to subscribe to Reflect Forward on your favorite podcast platform or YouTube.
