Dr. Shea Kerkhoff talks to us about literacies in the disciplines, an inquiry stance, and authentic learning. She is known for her work in disciplinary literacies, adolescent literacy instruction, and literacies in global contexts. She utilizes mixed methods to investigate critical, digital, and global literacies. Her research centers on integrating inquiry-based global learning with adolescent literacy instruction. She is co-author of Read, write, inquire: Disciplinary literacy in grades 6-12 with Drs. Hiller Spires and Casey Medlock Paul. Her forthcoming book, Critical perspectives on global literacies: Bridging research and practice, co-authored with Dr. Spires is currently in press with Routledge Publishers. In der Studie „Comeback Kids“ analysiert BCG regelmäßig, welche Unternehmen mit welchen Methoden und Maßnahmen Krisen am besten überstehen. In diesem Jahr hat sich besonders der Stahl- und Metallhändler Klöckner & Co SE aus Duisburg hervorgetan: als Vorreiter der Digitalisierung in einer noch großteils konservativen Branche – sowie zusätzlich mit konsequenter Verfolgung einer „Green Steel“-Strategie. „Es kommt immer darauf an, wie man sich einer Veränderung oder einer solchen Krise stellt“, erläutert Klöckner-CEO Guido Kerkhoff. „Wir haben es früh als eine Chance begriffen, mehr Flexibilität ins Unternehmen zu bringen und die Strukturen, die wir eigentlich immer schon anpassen wollten, jetzt zu verbessern.“ Federführend für die „Comeback Kids“ Studie ist BCG-Senior Partner Dr. Ralf Moldenhauer. Im Unterschied zur Finanzkrise 2008 sieht er in der Pandemie keine Krise des produzierenden Gewerbes. Die Finanzkrise hatte durch das Misstrauen in das Bankensystem weltweit zu einer teils dramatischen Investitionszurückhaltung geführt. „Die Coronakrise ist, einmal abgesehen von den Produktionsstopps im April und Mai letzten Jahres, sogar eine sehr starke Produktionszeit gewesen“, sagt Moldenhauer. „Die meisten Industrien haben Extremwerte erreicht.“ Welche Chancen und Risiken des Weiteren durch den Digitalisierungsschub und die Herausforderungen der Transformation der Wirtschaft in Richtung Klimaneutralität entstehen – und wie gerade diese Herausforderungen genutzt werden können, um die Resilienz im eigenen Unternehmen zu steigern –, sind weitere Themen in dieser Episode. „Wir erleben derzeit noch viel Greenwashing“, erklärt Guido Kerkhoff. Seit einem Jahr ist Guido Kerkhoff beim Stahl- und Aluminiumhändler Klöckner. Nachdem sein Vorgänger das Unternehmen frühzeitig als digitalen Vorreiter in der Stahlbranche positioniert hat, will Kerkhoff diesen Kurs als neuer CEO fortsetzen. Mithilfe von Automatisierung und Digitalisierung sollen Umsatz und Profitabilität wachsen. Angela interviewed Kari Kerkhoff who is currently in her third season as head women's basketball coach at McKendree University. Kerkhoff joined McKendree after serving as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at NCAA Division I Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for three seasons. In her last season the Cougars finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference regular season with a 13-3 record and ended their season in the semifinals of the OVC tournament with an overall record of 19-12. Their 19 wins and 13 league victories this season were both the best in program history. Prior to her three seasons at SIUE, Kerkhoff served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Bradley University for six seasons. During her time with the program, the Braves set program records with 21 wins during the 2008-09 season and 75 wins from 2008-12, while making their first postseason appearance in 2009-10 to go along with a program-best third place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference. Kerkhoff also spent time as an assistant coach at Elon University in Elon, N.C. from 2005-06, and at Michigan Tech University from 2003-2005. During her time at Michigan Tech, the Huskies finished in third place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 15-3 record and qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament with an overall mark of 21-8. Kerkhoff graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha in 2002 with her B.S. in Secondary Education specializing in Physical/Health Education, and was a four-year letterwinner for the Mavericks. Kerkhoff, who replaced Heinrich Hiesinger in 2018, has been under pressure from the company's board, which felt he was moving too slowly in organizing the sale of the units. thyssenkrupp sent letters to potential buyers of the elevator unit earlier this year, including other OEMs and several private equity firms. KONE has expressed interest in a full merger, but Kerkhoff signaled that he preferred to sell a minority stake to a private equity firm and, thus, avoid the kind of competition regulations that killed an effort to create a joint venture between thyssenkrupp's steel business and India's Tata Steel Ltd. The source notes that several private equity firms had expressed interest in other thyssenkrupp units, including automobile parts, system engineering and heavy plate steel, but Kerkhoff was trying to get a deal done for the EUR15-billion (US$16.6-billion) elevator unit first. The news came on the heels of a fourth profit warning issued under Kerkhoff, who assumed the CEO role after the former CEO and group chairman resigned. Quoting unnamed sources, the source said among those interested are KONE and private equity firms KKR, Advent and CVC. Kerkhoff is behind a failed attempt to spin off thyssenkrupp’s capital goods unit and merge the steel division with Tata Steel's European unit. He said he is backed by thyssenkrupp's supervisory board, which includes one of the top two shareholders, Cervian, which has wanted a simplified structure for a long time. The news created excitement among analysts, with Kepler Chevreaux Equity Research Head of Steel Rochus Brauneiser saying the "best move would be to sell a large chunk of the elevator business to pay down debt and fully externalize pensions." In the seventh episode of the Ocean Governance Podcast, we are joined by Brita Bohman, post doc researcher in ocean governance law at Gothenburg University and lecturer in environmental law at Stockholm university. In her research, Brita has focused on issues of adaptivity and legitimacy in relation to marine governance. That is fitting since preconditions for adaptive and legitimate governance can be said to be the overall theme of this episode. One of the two articles discussed identifies, based on the relevant literature, impediments to and models for facilitating knowledge exchange among scientists and decision-makers as a precondition for adaptive governance. The second article, which draws on interdisciplinary assessments of the resilience of six North American water basins, formulates guidelines for evaluating ways in which law can be used, adapted, and reformed to facilitate adaptive governance in ways that also enhances the legitimacy of governmental action. While it is evident that creating the right conditions for knowledge-based governance where law provides both legitimacy and facilitate adaptivity is challenging, the texts discussed offer suggestions, at different levels of specificity, for how that can be facilitated. Willkommen zu Teil 2 unserer kleinen Fine Triologie. In der ersten Folge habt ihr Fine`s Geschichte bis zur offiziellen Diagnose Lip-Lymphödem Stadium 3 und Elefantiasis kennengelernt. Was passierte nach der Diagnose? Fine beginnt um ihr Leben zu kämpfen und sie fährt 2016 zur Lipödem Menschenkette nach Essen – dass das die Große Wende für ihre Leidensgeschichte bedeutet, ahnt sie in diesem Moment noch nicht im Geringsten. Die Zeit ab der Diagnose Lipödem: Fine beginnt um ihr Leben zu kämpfen In der zweiten Folge, erzählt Fine davon, wie sie beginnt um ihr Leben zu kämpfen – von den Hürden, die sie dabei nehmen muss aber auch von der großen Unterstützung, die sie dabei bekommt. Folgende Fragen hat sie für uns beantwortet: Du hast irgendwann 255 kg gewogen. Wie alt warst du da? Wie sah dein Leben zu diesem Zeitpunkt aus? Nach der Diagnose Lipödem hattest du einen wahren Ärztemarathon hinter dir. Wieviele Ärzte "durftest" du kennenlernen, die dir nicht helfen wollten oder konnten? Warum gab es solche Probleme damit, endlich eine Physioparxis zu finden, um Lymphdrainage zu bekommen und endlich eine Kompressionsbestrumpfung angepasst zu bekommen? Wie war die Erffahrung mit deiner ersten Kompri, denn du hattest ja zu diesem Zeitpunkt auch eine Menge Wundstellen an den Beinen? Wie kommst du jetzt mit deiner Kompressionsbestrumpfung zurecht? Wie sah in den letzten Jahren und aktuell dein soziales Umfeld aus? Welche Menschen standen an deiner Seite? Vor ein paar Jahren wurdest du wieder schwanger. Ist die zweite Schwangerschaft besser verlaufen als die erste? Mit der Geburt des 2. Kindes wurde dein Kampfgeist geweckt, du wolltest das Übergewicht und das Lipödem besiegen. Ein Arzt hat dir die Diagnose Lip-Lymphödem Stadium III in der stärksten Ausprägung gestellt. Wie ging es dann weiter? Du hast bei der Menschenkette in Essen ganz viele tolle Frauen kennengelernt, die dich so nahmen, wie du bist. Zum Beispiel Peggy und Marion vom Lipödem Hilfe Verein – und Nicole. Als Nicole danach zu dir Kontakt aufgenommen hat, begann dein Leben sich Schritt für Schritt zu ändern … Erzähl uns davon! "Ich musste 16 verschiedene Facharztpraxen durchlaufen, bis ein Arzt gesagt hat: Ja, sie haben Lip-Lymphödem und ich werde Ihnen jetzt helfen." "Je nach Schwellung war die Haut aufgerissen. Heute veröffentliche ich den ersten Teil eines ganz besonderen Interviews: Ich habe mit Melanie Kerkhoff gesprochen, die viele von euch sicher als Fine kennen. Unser Gespräch ging vier Stunden – bis in die Nacht hinein – und fast drei Stunden davon habe ich für euch aufgenommen. Damit das Gespräch für euch ein wenig "leichter verdaulich" wird, habe ich es in drei Teile aufgeteilt. Fine und ich haben uns ganz kurz im Mai auf dem Lipödem Tag in Hannover kennengelernt. Sie hat dort einen Vortag über ihre persönliche Lipödem Geschichte gehalten. Und Fine´s Geschichte ging gefühlt durch Mark und Bein und landete schließlich mitten im Herzen. Kopfschütteln, Tränen, Fassungslosigkeit, Mitgefühl, Traurigkeit, Freude, Verständnis …. das fühlte man alles auf einen Schlag und vor allem großen Respekt. Der Vortrag hat aber auch ganz, ganz viel Mut gemacht, gezeigt wie wichtig gute Freunde, Familie und das Lipödem Netzwerk sind und wie wichtig es ist, nie den Glauben und die Lebensfreude aufzugeben. Und genau deshalb habe ich Fine in den Podcast eingeladen, damit ihr sie alle auch mal erleben dürft und an ihrer unglaublichen Geschichte teilhaben könnt.  Fine: "Ich war immer nur die Dicke, die Runde oder die Fette! Ich dachte, ich scheine nur was wert zu sein, wenn ich dünn und schlank bin." In der ersten Folge reisen wir ein wenig in die Vergangenheit und Fine beantwortet folgende Fragen: Wann hast du das erste Mal gemerkt, dass mit deinem Körper etwas nicht stimmt? Und wann hast du die Diagnose Lipödem bekommen? Fine und Diäten: Was hast du alles ausprobiert und hat irgendetwas angeschlagen? Wie war dein Essverhalten in der Kindheit und Pupertät? Die Außenfeld war schon in jungen Jahren unfassbar gemein zu dir! Ich konnte es in deinem Vortrag auf dem Lipödem Tag kaum glauben, das es sowas überhaupt gibt! Es hat aber auch nochmal mir selbst den Gedankenanstoß gegeben, niemals über Menschen zu urteilen, ohne ihre Geschichte zu kennen. Magst du den Zuhörerinnen von deinen Erfahrungen nochmal erzählen? Hast du denn in der Kindheit und Jugend Unterstützung von Familie oder Freunden bekommen? Du wurdest nach der Ausbildung mit 20 mit 140 kg das erste Mal schwanger. Wie hat dein Körper darauf reagiert? Wie ist es dir nach der Schwangerschaft ergangen? Wieviel hast du nach der Schwangerschaft gewogen? Lipödem und Beziehungen: Wie gehst du damit um? Wie hast du deinen jetzigen Mann kennengelernt? Du hattest in all den Jahren eine Magenband-OP und eine Schlauchmagen-OP. Was genau passiert bei diesen OPs und wie hat es dir geholfen Zitate von Fine – ich kann mir gut vorstellen, dass euch der ein oder andere Gedanke bekannt vorkommt: "Ich war immer nur die Dicke, die Runde oder die Fette! Ich dachte, ich schein nur was wert zu sein, wenn ich dünn und schlank bin." "Mein Körper hat durch die vielen Diäten gelernt, sofort einzulagern, sobald ich was esse.
