Fette haben keinen besonders guten Ruf. Viele verbinden damit Gewichtszunahme, ungesunde Ernährung oder schlechtes Cholesterin. Dabei gibt es eine Gruppe von Fettsäuren, ohne die unser Körper gar nicht funktionieren kann: Omega-3. Sie gehören zu den Stoffen, die unser Herz schützen, Entzündungen im Körper bremsen und sogar für Gehirn und Augen wichtig sind. In dieser Folge von DA GEHT NOCH WAS geht es um Omega-3-Fettsäuren - einen Nährstoff, über den gerade viel gesprochen wird. Besonders für Frauen, etwa in der Perimenopause oder den Wechseljahren, kann das Thema eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Omega-3-Fettsäuren gehören zu den sogenannten essentiellen Fettsäuren. Essentiell bedeutet: lebensnotwendig. Unser Körper braucht sie, kann sie aber nicht selbst herstellen. Sie beeinflussen unter anderem Herz-Kreislauf-Prozesse, Blutfettwerte, Entzündungsreaktionen und die Funktion von Nervenzellen. Gleichzeitig spielt auch das Verhältnis zu anderen Fettsäuren eine Rolle. Vor allem das Gleichgewicht zwischen Omega-3 und Omega-6 ist entscheidend – ein Verhältnis, das in unserer modernen Ernährung oft deutlich aus dem Lot geraten ist. Omega-3 steckt klassischerweise in fettem Fisch. Gleichzeitig rücken pflanzliche Quellen immer stärker in den Fokus: Leinsamen, Leinöl, Walnüsse, Chiasamen oder Hanfsamen gehören zu den wichtigsten Lieferanten. Auch Algen sind eine ursprüngliche Quelle dieser Fettsäuren und damit eine interessante Alternative für alle, die wenig oder keinen Fisch essen. Bei Nahrungsergänzungsmittel spielen ist die Qualität entscheidend - Herkunft, Dosierung und mögliche Belastungen durch Schwermetalle oder Mikroplastik. Und: Fettsäuren sollten immer zusammen mit einer fetthaltigen Mahlzeit eingenommen werden, damit der Körper sie optimal aufnehmen kann. Brauchen wir wirklich jeden Tag Omega-3-Kapseln?
