You can give a great presentation, get lots of compliments afterward, and still walk away with zero leads. Why? Because most speakers approach their talks like teachers instead of marketers. In this episode, Diane Diaz and I share how to create presentations that generate interest, build trust, and lead to clients, without feeling salesy or violating the dreaded "no selling from the stage" rule.We talk about why audiences don't need more information, what they actually want from your presentation, and how to structure your talks so people understand not only your message, but also why you're the right person to help them.If you've ever wondered why your speaking engagements aren't translating into business opportunities, this episode will help you rethink how you approach your talks. In this episode, we discuss:• Why giving audiences more information often reduces conversions• The difference between a lead-generation talk and a paid workshop• How our Signature Talk Canvas® helps speakers create demand without being pushy• The critical role of Act One in building trust and audience buy-in• How to plant "sales seeds" naturally through stories and client examples• Why emotional connection matters more than tactics and tips• Simple ways to capture leads and book conversations after your presentation• Real-world examples of talks that generated immediate clientsIf you're ready to work with us on creating or refining your signature talk, head to speakingyourbrand.com/contact/ to schedule a consultation and explore the best way for us to work together. This episode originally aired as episode 457 on December 29, 2025.About Us: The Speaking Your Brand podcast is hosted by Carol Cox. TEDx: How to Lead with Hope: Solution Focused Conversation Navigation https://youtu.be/Am3ZoF53BS0?si=ZaflEtnhsdjgJ2oN When we first learn about the solution-focused approach apprach it may seem like you spend most of your time learning about how to run the first session or how to have the first conversation. Because this is an approach, not a step-by-step guided practice, some people do a great job with that first meeting only to choose not to use those skills in the second session. In this episode, we talk about the importance of the second session, and Cher shares an intake method she uses that has helped her second sessions run smoothly and have an even greater impact. This will also help you bring this practice to fidelity for you so you don't just know about this approach, but you have confidence in using it with clients and in coaching conversations. Key Topics Importance of deliberate practice in second sessions Using a structured intake to guide follow-up Building client capacity for self-directed change The role of curiosity and listening in solution focused therapy Using scaling questions to measure progress Maintaining solution focus without slipping into problem talk Start your free Solution-Focused 3-day training here: https://www.thefocusedmindset.com/leadwithhopechallenge In this episode, you will learn: Consistency in applying solution-focused techniques is key to client progress. The second session is crucial for reinforcing change and planning next steps. Using visual tools like the four chambers helps clients see their progress. Curiosity about the client's preferred future keeps sessions growth-oriented. Practicing skills in real-life situations enhances naturalness and effectiveness. I fell back in love with yoga after a minor back injury in 2022. To be exact, it happened on 2/2/22 -- and yes, I was paying attention to the sign. The sign was to slow down. To stop trying to do everything myself (as a firstborn productivity addict, that has been a hard lesson to learn). It was during Covid, I was rushing to cram in a stationary bike ride and squats before my Sanctuary community was meeting. I picked up the heavy weight, forgot to focus on form -- even though I used to be a personal trainer and group fitness instructor (great gig post-divorce: free gym membership) -- and it was putting on my leggings afterwards that I realized I couldn't move. Damn those leggings. That led to an internal breakdown and a real reckoning. I was pushing, striving, cramming, overdoing. It was yoga though, with all that stretching, physically and mentally, that brought me back to the only real truth: the present moment. This conversation with my friend Neale Donald Walsch will stretch you in the best way. Like your favorite yoga class, it might be uncomfortable for a second and then something opens. Neale shares so many expansive and honest things I've heard about God, love, forgiveness, and who you actually are. Stay with us for the close because the way he ends this one – well, I don't want to give it away – but it's worth your time. I always love hearing where you've been stretched lately, and how you're learning to trust what's on the other side of that. With so much love, Julie P.S. A 90-minute Soul-Alignment Intensive Session is absolute alchemy and exactly what it sounds like. If you're ready for a real breakthrough, I'd love to support you stretching yourself to what's possible. ✨ juliereisler.com/calendar ✨ Takeaways Your life is not about you; it's about everyone you touch. There is no absolute right or wrong; morality evolves. Love is all that matters; forgiveness is unnecessary when understood. The divine is not separate from us; we are individuation of divinity. Contrast and opposites are essential for experience and growth. About Neale Donald Walsch Neale Donald Walsch is the author of the global phenomenon Conversations with God, published in 37 languages and read by millions around the world. What began as an angry private letter to God became one of the most beloved spiritual texts of our time. He is also the author of Letters to a Young Seeker and continues to share these teachings with people across the globe. Have you ever felt like you're working harder than ever, yet somehow keep hitting the same ceiling in your business, income, or personal growth? In today's episode, you'll discover: 1. We think buying is a logical decision. It isn't. Every purchase goes through three filters in the buyer's mind, and what they are. 2. The science behind buying decisions shows how the most trusted sellers align with a client's existing beliefs and identity rather than arguing against them. 3. A practical, ethical framework for building trust faster, lowering resistance, and helping clients ay yes to what genuinely serves them, no pressure tactics required. To support these three takeaways, I chose a quote from Zig Ziglar: "People don't buy for logical reasons. They buy for emotional reasons." About Owen Fitzpatrick: Owen Fitzpatrick is a social psychologist, a keynote speaker, and the author of nine books translated into 21 languages. His newest book, Inner Propaganda, is out in August 2026 and is endorsed by Robert Cialdini, Tony Robbins, and Daniel Pink. He's spoken in 33 countries, studied Exec Education at Harvard and MIT, and his TEDx talk has over 1.4 million views. He helps leaders and sellers earn genuine belief. Driving home from a volunteer shift at the Old Salt Festival near Helmville, Montana, I listened to the last hour of the book The Correspondent by Virginia Evans. As I listened to the characters reflect on their lives to share with others via handwritten letter (and a few emails), I was reminded of the great conversation I shared on this podcast with Amy Daughters, author of Dear Dana. As I mentioned in last week's episode, I was recently inspired to change the format of this show. The new format for my show aligns with what I'm learning about narrative identity (how the stories we tell about ourselves internally and externally influence our identity) and what I'm learning about emotional intelligence through a course I'm taking. My hope is that future episodes will offer more clarity about great storytelling and how to find and explore pivotal moments to demonstrate who we are. My future guests will be given a story prompt ahead of our call, and instead of a long, organic, multi-insight conversation, we'll dive more deeply into a single story, pulling a thread and revealing a primary insight about the experience, and leaving space for you – our listeners – to remember your own related experience and pull a thread that has the potential to guide you toward deeper self-awareness. I'll be eager to hear your thoughts about this new format, so please don't hesitate to send me a message via social media or email! In today's episode I'm sharing a story about a pivotal moment in my personal life, a long relationship that continues to influence my life and how I experience the world. Mentioned in this episode: The Correspondent by Virginia Evans Amy Daughters, author of Dear Dana, speaker, humorist Old Salt Festival, Helmville Montana Listeners, now it's your turn: Did my story remind you of something that happened to you? What memory popped into your head when you heard it? What did you learn about me as a person? Did my story inspire you to pick up a pen and leave a note for someone you care about? What's your related pivotal moment? In this 48-minute episode, I sit with Rachael Jane, international keynote speaker, TEDx presenter, three-time best-selling author, and founder of The Awakened School, for a powerful conversation about presence, visibility, and magnetic energy. Rachael shares how her work began with her own fear of being seen, and how healing that resistance transformed her life, relationships, and business. We explore the difference between performance and true embodiment, why so many of us slip into self-consciousness or overgiving, and how our energy field communicates before we even speak. Rachael breaks down her Unshakable Presence framework, including the five primary star codes that support deeper embodiment, receptivity, expression, liberation, and authenticity. She also shares practical insight on people-pleasing, saying no with clarity, staying grounded under pressure, and reclaiming your life force so you can feel safe, centered, and fully present in any room. Today, we're going to explore a topic that seems to be touching nearly every industry, every workplace, and increasingly every part of our daily lives: artificial intelligence. But this conversation is not just about what AI can do. It's about what AI assumes, what it values, what it misses, and what happens when powerful technologies are deployed into environments they were not designed to understand. My guest today is Dr. James Maisiri, an AI researcher and writer whose work focuses on responsible AI, digital transformation, education, labor markets, and the societal impact of emerging technologies. His work has been featured through organizations and publications including UNESCO, Mail & Guardian, and others, and his message is both simple and profound: AI is not neutral. In one of his 3 TEDx talks, Dr. Maisiri said, ‘If Africa does not shape AI, then AI will shape Africa. While his work often focuses on African communities and institutions, the lesson is much broader. Every industry, including electronics manufacturing, needs to think carefully about how we adopt AI, what assumptions are built into these systems, and how we validate their use before trusting their output. In electronics reliability, we often say that context matters. Materials, environments, residues, humidity, temperature, field conditions, and use cases all influence performance. Today, we'll ask whether the same is true for AI.I'm not really sure how much of this conversation will tie in directly to reliability, but it's a fascinating subject nonetheless. Let's see where it takes us.The hidden danger of AI in Africa | James Maisiri | TEDxUniversity of Johannesburghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1BVZvjLevQHow AI and Robotics Reconnects Us to Humanityhttps://www.ted.com/talks/james_maisiri_how_ai_and_robotics_reconnects_us_to_humanityLinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-james-maisiri-7b8069281/

These engagement failures, and how to fix them, map directly onto the Octalysis Core Drives. Get the free Core Drives in the Wild guide: professorgame.com/WildCD Episode Summary Rob breaks down why Amazon shut down KiroRank, the internal leaderboard that scored staff on raw AI usage on its Kiro developer platform. He shows how stacking Core Drive 2 (Development & Accomplishment) and Core Drive 5 (Social Influence & Relatedness) produced flawless compliance toward the wrong target, a textbook case of Goodhart's law: once a measure becomes a target, it stops being a good measure. Drawing on the Octalysis Strategy Dashboard and Toyota's Five Whys, he lays out the one question to ask before you measure anything. Listeners learn to measure outcomes instead of activity, and how to keep a proxy metric from quietly getting gamed. About the Host Rob Alvarez is Head of Engagement Strategy, Europe at The Octalysis Group (TOG), a leading gamification and behavioral design consultancy. A globally recognized gamification strategist and TEDx speaker, he founded and hosts Professor Game, the #1 gamification podcast, and has interviewed hundreds of global experts. He designs evidence-based engagement systems that drive motivation, loyalty, and results, and teaches LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® and gamification at top institutions including IE Business School, EFMD, and EBS University across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Key Takeaways Amazon shut down KiroRank, its internal leaderboard scoring staff on AI usage on the Kiro developer platform, after employees set autonomous AI agents on needless tasks just to climb the ranks and inflated the company's compute costs. Goodhart's law explains the failure: when a measure becomes a target, it stops being a good measure. You get what you measure, not what you want, so raw AI usage climbed while productivity went unmeasured. KiroRank stacked Core Drive 2 (Development & Accomplishment) through a progress bar and ranking, and Core Drive 5 (Social Influence & Relatedness) through public status, producing flawless compliance toward the wrong outcome. The more powerful and expensive the tool being measured, the more a gamed metric costs you, which is why Amazon paid in real compute money rather than a rounding error. Your marketing may not be broken. It may just be missing a signature talk.In this episode, Diane Diaz and I share why speaking is one of the most effective marketing tools available today and why a well-crafted signature talk can become the foundation for your visibility, lead generation, and thought leadership strategy. We talk about how speaking accelerates the know-like-trust factor in ways that social media and other marketing channels simply can't, why audiences are more engaged when they're experiencing your message live, and how your signature talk can be repurposed into everything from email campaigns and social media content to workshops, podcasts, and courses. We also explore what makes a true signature talk, how it differs from simply giving presentations, and why clarifying your core message is often the missing piece that ties your entire marketing strategy together. In this episode, we discuss:• Why speaking builds trust faster than any other marketing channel• How Diane generated new clients from a single speaking engagement• The difference between a presentation and a signature talk• Why your signature message should guide all of your marketing• How to identify the real problem your audience needs solved• Ways to repurpose your talk into content, workshops, and offers• Why many experts struggle to translate expertise into thought leadershipIf you're ready to build a signature talk that becomes the backbone of your marketing, visibility, and thought leadership, you can learn more about working with us inside the Thought Leader Academy, through a VIP Day, or at one of our in-person Orlando speaking workshops. This episode originally aired as episode 456 on December 22, 2025.About Us: The Speaking Your Brand podcast is hosted by Carol Cox. When Dr. Maggie Kang's nine-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a rare, incurable autoimmune disease, she was the radiologist who first saw the images. What followed was not just the grief of a mother watching her child suffer. It was two years of silent, suffocating guilt built on a story that made no logical sense but felt completely true. In this episode, Dr. Kang talks about the difference between pain and suffering, why doctors are particularly vulnerable to the stories that keep them stuck, and what it actually takes to let those stories go. The insight she shares is one that applies far beyond rare disease diagnosis, and doctors who have ever blamed themselves for a bad outcome will recognize it immediately. Episode Highlights [01:00]: Dr. Kang describes the moment she first saw her daughter's images as a radiologist, and what the following five weeks in hospital looked like for their family. [06:00]: She had tried thinking her way through the guilt for two years before coaching surfaced a belief she had never once said out loud to another person. [11:00]: Dr. Kang explains why this particular belief was so hard to release, and how cultural background, professional identity, and motherhood all collided in ways she had not anticipated. [15:00]: The moment she stopped asking what had gone wrong and started asking a different kind of question entirely set off a chain of events that is still unfolding today. [25:00]: She draws a clear line between pain and suffering that reframes how doctors might think about everything from a difficult diagnosis to a bad clinical outcome. [31:00]: A lobster metaphor that her whole family now uses to talk about growth, uncertainty, and what it actually means to let go of a story that is no longer serving you. Three Key Takeaways 1. Pain is unavoidable. Suffering is the story we add to it. Dr. Kang makes a distinction that sounds simple and lands hard. Pain is the actual experience: a child who is sick, a patient outcome that did not go as hoped, a career that suddenly changes course. Suffering is the additional layer of blame and guilt that doctors quietly construct around that pain, often without ever examining it or saying it aloud. For doctors, who are trained to believe that good outcomes follow from doing everything right, this distinction is particularly important. When things go wrong despite their best efforts, the story they reach for is often the harshest one available. 2. The stories that keep doctors stuck rarely survive being questioned out loud. Dr. Kang spent two years convinced she should have caught her daughter's diagnosis earlier, even though the pediatric presentation of the disease she knew was entirely different from what she had trained on. It was not logic that kept that belief in place. It was shame. Shame keeps stories in the dark, and stories in the dark grow. What coaching gave her was not an answer, but a question: are you sure? That single question, asked with genuine curiosity by someone else, was the beginning of everything that followed. 3. Letting go of a story means tolerating not having one. Dr. Kang uses the lobster as her metaphor, and it is a good one. When a lobster grows, it has to shed its shell and endure a period of complete vulnerability before the new shell forms. The discomfort of that transition is not a sign something is wrong. It is the growth itself. For doctors, releasing a long-held belief about what they should have done or who they should be does not feel like freedom at first. It feels like losing ground. Dr. Kang describes that period honestly and what she found on the other side of it. Guest Bio Dr. Maggie Kang is a TEDx speaker and certified coach who works with mothers navigating life with a child's chronic or rare disease diagnosis. She runs the Lobster Lessons newsletter and advocates for the neuroimmune disease community alongside her daughter Nell at maggiekangmd.com. Would you like to view a transcript of this episode? In this inspiring episode, Leslie welcomes Nicole Cramer, a former high school math teacher who transformed her life by stepping outside her comfort zone and following unexpected opportunities. Nicole shares how feeling stuck, unhappy, and disconnected from her purpose led her to question the path she was on and open herself to new possibilities. Nicole recounts her remarkable journey from teaching math for 15 years to becoming the #1 nationally ranked salesperson in the country twice. Through a series of seemingly coincidental events, intuitive "breadcrumbs," and bold decisions, she discovered the power of changing the stories we tell ourselves. She explains how alignment, intention, and human connection played a far greater role in her success than experience or credentials. The conversation explores manifestation, personal growth, overcoming fear, and embracing life's challenges as opportunities for transformation. Nicole and Leslie discuss how discomfort often serves as a signal for change, why sharing our stories can inspire others, and how shifting our mindset can unlock possibilities we never thought were available to us. What ten years of podcasting taught me about exposure, revelation, and reclaiming who you are. FLAUNT! is officially ten years old, and this anniversary episode is both a celebration and a reflection on what a decade of truth-telling has revealed. When Lora first started the podcast, she believed she was happily married and thought the show would focus primarily on empowerment, wellness, sensuality, confidence, visibility, humor, spirituality, and the art of living freely. Using burlesque as a metaphor, she explored the tension between concealing and revealing, the ways women cover or enhance parts of themselves, and how personal growth invites us to strip away roles, labels, scripts, and expectations. But over the past ten years, the show evolved in ways Lora never expected. Betrayal, burnout, affair recovery, nervous-system capacity, self-trust, and identity reconstruction became central themes. What once felt like a joyful personal-development conversation became something deeper and more urgent after betrayal exposed the difference between revealing yourself by choice and being exposed by someone else's actions. In this episode, Lora asks one of the core questions that has shaped both the podcast and her TEDx work: Who gets to define you? She explores how we come to know ourselves through other people's judgments, labels, and expectations. Whether we were called the difficult child, the fixer, the shy one, the loud one, the good wife, the good mom, or the capable one, many of us build identities around what others have reflected back to us. Betrayal can rip those identities away and force us to ask who we are without the roles we once relied on. Lora also reflects on the complicated nature of anniversaries. Some anniversaries are joyful, while others mark grief, shock, loss, or the end of a life we thought we were living. A podcast anniversary, a wedding anniversary, a D-Day anniversary, or a divorce anniversary can all bring mixed emotions. Rather than forcing those feelings to make sense, Lora invites listeners to honor the complexity of time, truth, grief, gratitude, and growth. This episode also explores the importance of being proud of yourself, not only for the big wins, but for the quiet moments of survival, self-reflection, honesty, and repair. Lora discusses the difference between blame and self-awareness, especially when betrayed partners look back and recognize places where they were exhausted, over-functioning, resentful, controlling, self-sacrificing, or disconnected from their own truth. That reflection does not excuse betrayal or make the betrayed partner responsible for someone else's choices. Instead, it creates an opportunity for reclamation. Lora shares how resentment often reveals where we performed a role no one actually asked us to perform. Whether it was keeping the perfect house, being endlessly helpful, managing everyone else's needs, or sacrificing ourselves to be seen as good, resentment can become a doorway into truth. It asks us to notice where we abandoned ourselves, where we hid our needs, and where we expected others to appreciate something we never clearly chose or communicated. The episode also addresses a tender truth: sometimes we do not face reality because we do not yet have the capacity, safety, resources, support, legal clarity, emotional maturity, or nervous-system strength to deal with it. Humans minimize, rationalize, distract, stay busy, and bury their heads in the sand when the truth would require a decision they are not ready or resourced enough to make. This can happen in the betrayed partner, and it can also happen in the partner who cheats. An affair may become a distraction from pain, dissatisfaction, or unresolved inner issues, but while that may explain behavior, it does not excuse the harm. Ultimately, this anniversary episode is about truth as a doorway, not a weapon. It is about learning to speak truth to yourself first, then to others. It is about knowing when to show up, when to rest, when to ask better questions, when to respect someone else's capacity, and when to stop outsourcing your identity to someone else's judgment, betrayal, or approval. After ten years of FLAUNT!, Lora returns to one central truth: someone else's judgment is not a verdict. Someone else's betrayal is not your identity. Truth may strip away fantasy and denial first, but it also creates the possibility of real self-definition. Top 3 Takeaways There is a difference between being exposed and revealing yourself. Betrayal exposes you without your consent. Healing is the process of choosing what you reveal, what you reclaim, what you protect, and what you no longer allow to define you. Someone else's judgment is not a verdict. Much of our identity is shaped through labels, roles, and reflections from others, but those labels do not have to define us forever. Confidence is the ability to stay connected to who you are, even when someone else misunderstands, judges, betrays, or fails to value you. Truth requires capacity, and avoidance does not erase responsibility. Sometimes we do not face the truth because we do not yet have the resources, safety, support, or emotional capacity to deal with it. That may explain why people minimize, distract, rationalize, or avoid, but it does not excuse harm. Truth becomes healing when it is used as a doorway into responsibility, support, and reclamation. Favorite Quotes “Betrayal strips you without your consent. Healing is when you begin choosing what comes off and what goes back on.” “Sometimes we bury our head in the sand because looking directly at the truth would require us to make a decision that we are either not ready to make or not resourced enough to make.” About Lora Lora Cheadle, JD, CHt is a former attorney turned betrayal recovery coach, hypnotherapist, and author who helps women rebuild their identity and reclaim their power after infidelity and profound emotional betrayal. Jenny Bates Heaton is the founder of Bates Leadership and has a brilliant new TEDx talk. What really blew me away during our chat was how Jenny used her personal journey facing a massive medical decision after a cancer-risk mutation diagnosis to completely rewrite the script on how we make choices. It got me thinking about my own life and how often we make decisions based on what we think we should do, rather than what aligns with our deepest values. For me, everything comes back to fairness, justice, and a whole lot of strength. When things feel off-balance in the world, my mental health definitely takes a hit with serious anxiety, but anchoring into those core values is what keeps me grounded. Jenny's framework isn't just a clinical exercise. It's a warm, slightly humorous, and deeply practical guide to finding your own word—whether that's power, strong, or serenity—and letting it do the guiding when life is A LOT. Key Themes From the Conversation The Power of Personal Reflection Prompts: True decision-making frameworks cannot be imported from someone else. Decisions must be organically mined from an individual's unique motivations and joys. "I started circulating my questions to everyone, and I didn't really get any reaction from people. because they weren't their questions. They didn't focus on their values. Now, I guide people through exercises to pull out their word to guide their decisions." — Jenny Bates Heaton The Intersection of Imposed Limitations and Good Intentions: Well-meaning colleagues often inadvertently sideline individuals, particularly from historically marginalized groups, by assuming their needs or limitations rather than asking them directly. "People with the best of intentions trying to protect me said, 'Oh gosh, I know you're going through a lot so let's catch up in a couple of months.' I had to advocate for myself quite a bit to convince them like, 'No, no, I'm good.'" — Jenny Bates Heaton Shifting toward Employee-Led Talent Management: Organizations must move away from paternalistic, closed-door succession and promotion processes and actively integrate the employee's voice to reduce systemic bias. "Think about how many times you don't have the employee's voice in the room for talent review and for promotions. Most companies do not allow an employee to put their name in the box for the roles that they would like to apply for. That's weird." — Jenny Bates Heaton Embracing the "Good Day, Bad Day" Culture: Cultivating psychological safety in a corporate system requires acknowledging that organizations, like people, will have off days without those mistakes defining their permanent identity. "The good day, bad day is one of my favorite exercises because it gives you permission to talk about the bad because it's just a day. It doesn't mean that you're always going to be bad, everyone has a bad day. Corporate culture personas are very much that way with good days and bad days just like humans." — Jenny Bates Heaton Actionable Takeaway Audit your favorite activities to find your decision-making anchor. Take a notebook and write down one or two hobbies you love to do consistently (like gardening, skiing, or reading). Ask yourself: What is the underlying feeling or motivation that compels me to keep doing this? Distill that feeling into a single core word—such as strength, control, or connectedness—and actively use that word as a litmus test for the next major professional or personal decision you have to make. Are you still playing by the old career rules, sending out resumes, waiting for HR to notice you, and hoping AI doesn't filter you out before a human ever sees your name? Are you frustrated that you “did everything right” (education, resume, interview skills) yet still feel invisible in a job market overrun by automation, layoffs, and gig work? In this episode of Marketer of the Day, Dr. Chaz Austin explains why corporate loyalty is dead and why every worker, employee, freelancer, or consultant must start thinking like an entrepreneur. Drawing on his doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine, three books, including How to Find Work for the Rest of Your Life, LinkedIn Learning career courses, and a TEDx talk, he breaks down how AI has flooded the hiring system with noise, and why employers are retreating to the safest filter they know: real human relationships and referrals. Instead of hoping an algorithm notices you, Chaz shows you how to become the person people already know and trust before an opening is ever posted, rather than relying on random luck. https://youtu.be/4Ooqx32wiHs?si=HVYTr3Zmb0rgE6ks Dr. Chaz walks you through a practical, modern strategy centered on LinkedIn, targeted groups, and consistent visibility. He reveals how to position your profile, so decision-makers instantly see your value, how to use groups and volunteering as an “audition” for future work, and why you must embrace the reality that you now have two jobs: your craft and your self‑marketing. His “farmer” metaphor, planting and nurturing many relationship seeds over time, offers a realistic, sustainable way to generate ongoing gigs, referrals, and opportunities without feeling like a pushy salesperson. This conversation is packed with insights for anyone frustrated by ignored applications, unstable employment, or a nagging fear that they're being left behind by AI and automation. If you're ready to stop depending on resumes and start building a relationship-powered, opportunity-rich career in the gig economy, Dr. Chaz's approach may be the reset you need. Quotes: "Think of yourself as a farmer: plant as many seeds as you can. You water them, you nurture them, and you don't need all of them to grow; if a few start to pop up, that's your new client, that's your new gig." "Sometimes they don't hire the best people; they hire people they know and trust that they've worked with before." "You need to lower your expectations significantly about the old sending out the resume. You can continue to do that, but don't expect anything. A lot of it is just busy work." David Jenyns had 15 people on his team when he realized his business still couldn't function without him. Every client wanted him personally. Every escalation came back to him. He was working long hours and couldn't switch off. When he thought about taking time off to be present for the birth of his first child, it filled him with anxiety rather than excitement. "It was a little bit scary when I realized, hey, if I'm not working, the business isn't working." David is the founder of SYSTEMology, a three-times bestselling author of Authority Content, SYSTEMology, and Systems Champion, and a TEDx speaker. He has built and exited multiple businesses and, in 2016, systemized himself out of Melbourne SEO Services by documenting the business, hiring a CEO, and stepping away from day-to-day operations. He has since personally coached 223 businesses across 48 industries and 27 countries. In this conversation, David and Mark explore why founder dependency is so common in recruitment businesses, why it often gets rewarded in the early stages, and how agency owners can break the cycle. David explains the Critical Client Flow, the knowledgeable worker concept, the Systems Champion role, and why documented processes have become even more valuable in the age of AI. In this episode: Why the traits that help build a recruitment business can eventually limit its growth The Critical Client Flow and how to identify the systems that matter most How to distinguish between the work that requires your expertise and the work that doesn't Why key person dependency creates risk beyond just the founder How to capture the knowledge inside your team's heads before it walks out the door The Systems Champion role and how it drives systemization from within How AI can turn recordings into first-draft process documentation Why businesses with documented processes are getting the most out of AI right now What happened when ChatGPT disrupted a quarter of David's business almost overnight Episode Highlights [2:08] Why David's agency became dependent on him despite having 15 team members [4:15] The catalyst: finding out his wife was pregnant [9:03] Why founder dependency gets rewarded in the early stages [13:16] Systemize everything around the magic [19:58] The Critical Client Flow: where to start [25:32] The knowledgeable worker concept [27:41] The Systems Champion role [38:40] Building a Systems Hub for your intellectual property [47:03] How ChatGPT disrupted David's business overnight [49:06] Why process documentation is now the foundation for AI adoption About David Jenyns David Jenyns is the founder of SYSTEMology and a three-times bestselling author. There are conversations that deepen the way we relate to our horses, and this was absolutely one of them.As someone who lives alongside horses every day, I'm always curious about the space where intuition, experience, and science meet. Sitting down with neuroscientist and horse trainer Janet Jones felt like stepping further into that understanding.Janet is the author of the bestselling Horse Brain, Human Brain, a book that genuinely transformed the way I think about horse behavior, trust, fear, training, and the horse-human connection. In this conversation, we explore insights from her upcoming book, A Horse's World, available now for pre-order before its June 23 release. We talk about what's actually happening when horses snort or lick and chew, how horses experience the world through smell, why lighting and vision matter more than most riders realize, and the neuroscience behind helping horses feel safe in new environments. One part that especially stayed with me was Janet describing a new horse as feeling like “a tourist in a foreign country.” As I've been integrating a new mare into my own herd, that perspective felt incredibly grounding and compassionate. We also explore: • Rewarding relaxation instead of only correcting behavior • Predator brains vs. prey brains • Wild horses vs. horses living in the wild • Anthropomorphism in horsemanship • Building trust through consistency, calmness, and understandingThis conversation felt less like learning “about” horses and more like remembering to see the world a little more through their eyes.Pre-order: A Horse's WorldFollow Janet:WebsiteFacebookInstagramLearn more about Horse Brain, Human BrainFollow Little Brown and CompanySend us Fan Mail Support the show✨ Join the Spiritual Horse Seeker Summit

Dr. Luyi Kathy Zhang, MD has sat with thousands of people and their families in the final moments of their lives, learning from the choices they've made and what often goes unsaid. In this episode, she joins Jennifer Reid, MD to talk about caregiver guilt, the “burden of being a burden,” and why she treats self-care less like an indulgence and more like a clinical skill in her daily work. What makes Dr. Zhang's perspective so disarming is that she refuses to treat death as a subject that requires hushed tones. She brings the same matter-of-fact warmth to a hospital room at Bellevue as she does to her writing and videos about her experiences working in end-of-life care. She and Dr. Reid also discuss how listeners can start on a path to less guilt and more meaning in their lives today. Her ABCs of Deathbed RegretDr. Zhang shares the framework she returns to again and again at the bedsides of the dying. It's not a list of regrets about money or career, but 3 quieter, more human wishes so many people have spoken about in their final days.Authenticity. “I wish I had been more true to myself.” The regret of having lived as who was expected, rather than who they actually were.Bravery. “I wish I had the courage to pursue my dreams.” The risk that felt too frightening to take, looked back on as the one that mattered most.Connection. “I wish I had kept in touch.” The relationship left untended, or never repaired. As Dr. Zhang puts it, her hope isn't that we wait for a deathbed to feel the pull of one of these, but that we notice which one lands hardest right now, and treat that as the signal worth acting on.About Dr. Luyi Kathy ZhangDr. Luyi Kathy Zhang is a hospice and palliative care physician, certified coach and hypnotist, author, and TEDx speaker. She is an assistant professor at NYU School of Medicine and directs the End of Life Serenity Unit at Bellevue, the nation's oldest public hospital. Having sat with thousands of dying patients and heard their deepest secrets, biggest regrets, and final wishes, Kathy now shares that deathbed wisdom through her writing, speaking, and content, on a mission to help the rest of us start living the life we truly want, long before we reach the end of it.Dr. Zhang's Website: https://luyikathyzhang.com/Her TEDx talk!On Instagram as Dr. Luyi Kathy Zhang https://www.instagram.com/dr.luyikathyzhang

— Today we welcome Susan Winchester — a guide for professionals who want to transform career conflict into healing and growth. Susan helps people whose difficult childhoods quietly shape their work lives, turning perfectionism, people-pleasing, and overdrive into sources of insight rather than shame. Her message is simple but powerful: damage is not destiny, and the workplace can be a training ground for new, healthier ways of being. We'll explore the idea of the ASDP — the Adult Survivor of a Damaged Past — and the "bumper car" moments that trigger old beliefs in everyday career conflicts. Susan will share why most human suffering springs from unresolved wounds and automatic patterns, how those patterns show up at work, and how practical, research-based tools (career coaching, positive psychology, and neuroplasticity) can rewire responses for better relationships, leadership, and meaning. We'll also delve into her book, Healing at Work, co-written with Martha I. Finney: why it was written, the intention behind it, and how readers can use career challenges as opportunities to practice boundaries, self-love, and new behaviors. Valeria interviews Susan Schmitt Winchester — She is the author of "Healing at Work: A Guide to Using Career Conflicts to Overcome Your Past and Build the Future You Deserve." Susan J. Have you ever felt a presence you couldn't explain? That quiet knowing that someone you loved was near, even when nothing about it made logical sense? My guest is Courtney Dawson, an evidential psychic medium who has been seeing spirit since she was a toddler, and spending most of her life terrified of it. She grew up in a devout Christian home where what she was experiencing had no language, no permission, and no safe place to land. That fear became anxiety that stayed with her for decades, until the moment everything cracked open. We get into evidential mediumship, what it actually looks and feels like to receive messages from the other side, and how her dad, who never fully came to terms with her abilities while he was alive, showed up clairaudiently within hours of passing.
