Todavía no tenemos precios. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 2nd September. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. SK INNOVATION TO INVEST $1 BLN IN A NEW BATTERY FACTORY IN CHINA - South Korea's SK Innovation Co Ltd (096770.KS) said on Wednesday it will invest 1.2 trillion won ($1.04 billion) in a new battery factory in China. - The South Korean battery maker, which supplies electric car batteries to Ford Motor Co (F.N), Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) and Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS) among others, has battery production sites in the United States, Hungary, China and South Korea. - In July, SK Innovation said it would aim to increase its annual battery production capacity to 200 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in 2025 Original Source : https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/sk-innovation-invest-1-bln-new-battery-factory-china-2021-09-01/ PREPRODUCTION KIA EV6 DRIVEN - The interior is cool. There's a wide screen on the dash, which itself is adorned with stylish gray and white lines that continue on the center console lid. The shifter is a rotary dial with “park” at its vertex and “R, N and D” positioned just outside its circumference. A power button sits slightly elevated ahead of the shifter, while a wireless charging pad is located behind. - There are two 12-volt power outlets on that lower deck, and a USB and USB-C just ahead below the center stack: - The EV6's ride quality is a bit on the stiffer side, though not harsh. - That's reasonably quick, though in an EV without sound or shifts, that sprint is a gradual affair and not something that will blow you away (a 576 horsepower Kia EV6 GT model is on the horizon). - Even if it's clearly not a sports car, I had a good time zipping the EV6 around those twisty streets in the countryside north of Frankfurt, though to me, what makes the car special isn't its handling or its power, it's its design. The outside is quirky and fun, and the cabin is just a cool place to spend time. Original Source : https://jalopnik.com/genesis-is-going-very-electric-very-soon-1847604925 OPEL TO RELEASE THE ASTRA AS A BEV - Opel will also offer the new Astra as a purely electric model from 2023. The manufacturer has now announced this at the official presentation of the sixth generation of the model. Before the launch as a BEV, plug-in hybrids in two performance levels are available for the new Astra. - The new Astra will also be launched as a purely battery-electric car. - The DS 4 and the Astra not only share the EMP2 as their technical basis, but they are also both built at Opel's Rüsselsheim plant. - The existing BEV models based on the EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform) are the large vans or transporters, such as the Citroën ë-Spacetourer or the Opel models Zafira-e Life (passenger cars) or Vivaro-e (commercial vehicles). - Astra will be available to order from autumn and will be delivered from the beginning of 2022 – initially as a “sporty five-door model”. An “elegant estate version” with the familiar name Astra Sports Tourer is to follow “shortly”. The site will contain eight ultra-rapid 150kW EV charging bays - MFG CEO William Bannister said: “We are delighted to be opening this EV-only forecourt that offers ultra-rapid charging on the Chester Road in Stretford, which is a first for the north west of the country. With eight ultra-rapid charging bays, we believe this site will help lead the local transition to more sustainable electric vehicles.” - This move forms part of its plans to invest £400m in ultra-rapid EV charges across its UK network Original Source : https://www.thegrocer.co.uk/forecourts/mfg-opens-first-electric-vehicle-only-hub-at-manchester-forecourt/659354.article COX AUTOMOTIVE ACQUIRES BATTERY HEALTH COMPANY SPIERS AS ‘EVS TAKE CENTER STAGE' - Cox Automotive is getting into the electric vehicle battery lifecycle business. The company said Wednesday it acquired Oklahoma City-based Spiers New Technologies (SNT), a business that provides repair, remanufacturing, refurbishing and repurposing services for EV battery packs. - It added that electric vehicles have completely different service profiles than their internal combustion engine vehicle counterparts, and much of that comes down to the battery. EV battery support is particularly critical as the battery pack itself can comprise as much as 40% of the vehicle's cost - Cox said it would use the diagnostic tool to push greater confidence in electric vehicles, likening it to the way that Kelley Blue Book has provided greater transparency about ICE vehicles' condition for consumers.

It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   GM ANNOUNCES ELECTRIC CHEVY SILVERADO PICKUP "General Motors announced Tuesday that it will produce an all-electric Chevrolet Silverado truck, with an estimated driving range of more than 400 miles on a single charge."  reports CNN Business: "The truck will join an increasingly crowded field of competitors from established automakers like Ford (F), which has already said it will make electric version of its F-Series pickup, as well as startups, such as Tesla (TSLA), with the Cybertruck, and Rivian, with the R1T. The new electric Silverado will not be a modified version of the gasoline- or diesel-powered truck equipped with batteries and electric motors. Instead, it will be engineered from the beginning as an electric-only truck, GM said, using the same Ultium electric vehicle engineering that will underlie many of the automaker's future electric vehicles, including the GMC Hummer EV models and the Cadllac Lyriq SUV."   "The company did not immediately say when the electric Silverado will go on sale, but GM president Mark Reuss said at an event on Tuesday that the company will also make commercial fleet-focused versions of the truck. GM has been teasing an electric Silverado for months now. It previously said it may not release a pickup EV until mid-decade and hadn’t officially announced the truck was coming until Tuesday." according to The Verge: "The electric Silverado will be made at “Factory Zero,” the recently rebranded Detroit-Hamtramck plant dedicated to EVs and AVs that GM is currently retooling at a cost of more than $2 billion. It’s the same plant where GM will build the all-electric Hummer SUV and Hummer pickup. The Silverado is so important to GM that it’s currently selling versions of the truck that are missing a microchip that helps improve fuel economy thanks to the global semiconductor shortage."   "Shares of General Motors closed at a new record Tuesday after the automaker confirmed plans to produce an all-electric Chevrolet Silverado pickup at an assembly plant for EVs that’s under construction in Detroit. The electric Silverado is part of a previously announced $2.2 billion investment in the plant to produce an array of its next-generation EVs" says CNBC: "he new vehicles are part of GM’s plan to release 30 new EVs globally by 2025 under a $27 billion investment in electric and autonomous vehicles during that time frame. The company plans to sell at least 1 million EVs annually by then."   https://edition.cnn.com/2021/04/06/success/gm-electric-chevy-silverado-pickup/index.html   https://www.theverge.com/2021/4/6/22370058/gm-chevy-electric-silverado-pickup-truck   https://www.cnbc.com/2021/04/06/gm-shares-hit-new-record-on-plans-for-electric-chevy-silverado-pickup.html   DID POLESTAR JUST TEASE A HOTTER VERSION OF THE POLESTAR 2 EV? "Polestar is Volvo’s sporty and electrified arm and it currently has one pure-EV in its lineup, the Polestar 2. It’s about as close a rival as we currently have to the Tesla Model 3, although it’s not quite as quick as the Model 3 Performance. Well, that could change with a more aggressive performance version of the Polestar 2, which appears to be what the CEO of Polestar seems to have hinted at via a couple of recent Instagram posts." says InsideEVs; "Thomas Ingenlath posted two photos of what appears to be a sportier version of the Polestar 2 EV. How can we tell? Well, the car clearly sits lower on its suspension and it looks like it’s riding on wheels borrowed from the more exclusive Polestar 1 (albeit completely blacked out). The front bumper is also different - the lower part is painted in the body color. The plastic cladding around the wheel arches is also finished in the body color and with the bumper, the black wheels and the visibly lower ride height, it looks like a far more focused vehicle than the standard car".   https://insideevs.com/news/499218/polestar2-performance-hot-version-teaser-ceo/   VOLKSWAGEN MEB-BASED ELECTRIC CARS WILL BE V2G FROM 2022 "During its Power Day in March, Volkswagen said it was moving ahead with vehicle to grid (V2G) bi-directional battery charging technology. Now it’s official. In an interview with Handelsblatt this week, Volkswagen board member Thomas Ulbricht said, “The test vehicles are running. We are in the last [phases] with the preparations.”" reports CleanTechnica: "Beginning in January, 2022, every electric car from the Volkswagen Group that uses the MEB electrical platform — that includes cars from Audi, Skoda, and Seat-Cupra — will be able to not only charge from the electrical grid but also able to return electricity to the grid on demand. Ulbricht explains that expanded business models relating to the battery are just one component of a much more fundamental change in the automotive industry that will be triggered by digitization. Volkswagen sees itself monetizing all that stored electricity by making it available to utility companies and grid operators. Some of the income would go to the owners of the cars. Handelsblatt says in the final analysis, automakers may have the upper hand. They provide the warranty coverage for those batteries and can adjust their warranties to favor the use of their own networks."   https://cleantechnica.com/2021/04/06/all-volkswagen-meb-based-electric-cars-will-be-v2g-capable-beginning-in-2022/   SALES OF NISSAN E-POWER ELECTRIFIED VEHICLES IN JAPAN SURPASSES 500,000 "Nissan announced that cumulative sales of vehicles with its e-POWER electrified powertrain (earlier post) surpassed 500,000 units at the end of March. The e-POWER system uses a highly efficient gasoline engine to generate electricity for the electric motor that propels the vehicle. For customers, this delivers EV-like excitement, quietness and smooth acceleration, but with the confidence and convenience that comes with a fuel tank, and without the need to plug in to recharge." according to Green Car Congress: "e-POWER made its debut in Japan on the Note compact car in November 2016. In February 2021, the all-new Nissan Qashqai recently debuted in the European market with an e-POWER model announced following the mild-hybrid model, marking the first offering of e-POWER in the continent."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2021/04/20210406-epower.html   NISSAN CUTS COST OF LEAF TO QUALIFY FOR PLUG-IN GRANT "Price reductions for the 40kWh and 62kWh versions of the Nissan Leaf have been announced to ensure the electric vehicle (EV) qualifies for the plug-in car grant. All grades of the Nissan Leaf and both battery capacities (40kWh and 62kWh) are now eligible for the revised grant, with pricing now starting from £25,995 OTR (including the Government grant of £2,500)." writes Fleet News: "Peugeot revised pricing for all e-2008 models and enhanced deposit contributions for the e-208 range in response to the grant cut.  Peugeot’s price cut came after Vauxhall reduced the prices of its Mokka-e and Vivaro-e so that all its electric models are eligible for the revised plug-in grant.  Fellow Stellantis brand Citroen confirmed price cuts to its new e-C4 model following the changes to the grant.  BMW also announced it was cutting the cost of its i3 electric car last week, to ensure customers can still take advantage of the Government’s plug-in grant."   https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/latest-fleet-news/electric-fleet-news/2021/04/06/nissan-cuts-cost-of-leaf-to-qualify-for-plug-in-grant   UK EV REGISTRATIONS CONTINUE THEIR RISE UK new car registrations ‘grow’ for first time since August – up 11.5% – but remain -36.9% adrift of 10-year March average. The shift to new technologies is continuing, however, with plug-in vehicle demand reaching its highest ever volume. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) took a combined market share of 13.9%, up from 7.3% last year as the number of models available to customers increased from 72 to 116. Registrations of BEVs increased by 88.2% to 22,003 units, while PHEVs rose by 152.2% to 17,330. Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) also rose 42.0% to reach 21,599 registrations.   https://www.smmt.co.uk/2021/04/the-only-way-is-up-for-new-car-registrations-as-showrooms-look-to-reopen/   US ELECTRIC CAR INCENTIVE IS RUMORED TO INCREASE TO $10,000 IN PROGRAM REFORM "The US federal government is currently looking to include a ramp-up of investments in electrification as part of a massive infrastructure bill. It’s unclear how the money will be spent, but we are now hearing that the electric car tax credit could increase to $10,000." says electrek:" Now Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, one of the top-rated analysts that follow the electric vehicle market, says that the rumor in Washington is that the new incentive will be $10,000"     QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM   What EV do you want to see your favourite car maker launch which they haven’t already?     It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER) RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK (PREMIUM PARTNER) eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PREMIUM PARTNER)     DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY FROM MILLBROOK COTTAGES – 5* GOLD SELF CATERING COTTAGES (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY FROM DENOVO REAL ESTATE (PARTNER) JUKKA KUKONEN FROM WWW.SHIFT2ELECTRIC.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN (PARTNER) IAIN SEAR (PARTNER)   ADRIAN BOND (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREW GREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDY NANCARROW AND LILIAN KASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BLUNDERBUSS JONES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRISTOPHER BARTH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DC EV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ED CORTREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERIC HANSEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEINRICH LIESNER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAVIER CARMELO DÍAZ PÉREZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JOHN SCHROEDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHANIEL FREEDMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAYMOND ROWLEDGE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROBERT GRACE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. DACIA’S NEW EV STARTS FROM €10,920 IN GERMANY "When Dacia first announced the Spring Electric as a concept back in March last year, it led with the claim that it’d be “Europe’s most affordable all-electric vehicle”. Well, now it’s delivering on that promise, because in Germany at least, prices for the production version will start at €10,920. " says TopGear.com: "Technically of course, that’s a €20,490 start price for the base-spec Comfort trim level, but the German government provides a €9,570 grant. Sadly, there are still no plans for the Spring to make it to the UK, but let’s have a quick recap of the specs anyway. It combines a 27.4kWh battery with a 44bhp electric motor (no, that’s not a typo) for a WLTP range of 143 miles."   https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/hold-dacias-new-ev-starts-eu10920-germany   ROMANIANS CAN BUY ELECTRIC DACIA SPRING FOR ONLY EUR 7,700 "Romanian carmaker Dacia, part of the French Groupe Renault, has started the production of Dacia Spring, its first electric model. Dacia has set the starting price at EUR 18,100 while the state is giving grants of about EUR 10,400, so the final price is EUR 7,700. It makes it the cheapest electric car in Romania and beyond. " according to Balkan Green Energy News: "The interest among Romanian buyers is enormous. Dacia received more than 1,500 orders for its first electric model in the first four hours after it made applications available, on March 20, local media reported. For comparison, that’s how many electric cars were sold in Romania in 2019. Dacia said orders are now temporarily closed."   https://balkangreenenergynews.com/romanians-can-buy-electric-dacia-spring-for-only-eur-7700/   KIA E-NIRO LAUNCHED WITH GRANT FRIENDLY SUB-£35K PRICETAG "Kia has revealed a new long-range 64kWh battery version of its e-Niro electric SUV with a price tag of £34,945. The new model undercuts the recently announced lower maximum list price threshold for the Government’s plug-in car grant (PICG) and so qualifies for the cash incentive. Cars costing more than £35,000 are no longer eligible for the grant" reveals AutoExpress. The new '2' version features the long-range 64kWh battery pack and high-power 150kW motor as higher-specification e-Niro models, while offering a £34,945 on-the-road price: "The new, sub £35k long-range e-Niro is available in ‘2’ trim, which includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 17-inch aluminium alloy wheels, a reversing camera system and rear parking sensors. There’s also an adaptive cruise control system that can bring the car to a complete stop and restart it in traffic jams, plus keyless entry and go. Kia claims the e-Niro ‘2’ Long Range is capable of travelling up to 282 miles on a single charge according to WLTP testing, and up to 382 miles in city driving. Indeed, the brand now claims that this new model has the greatest range of any sub-£35k electric vehicle."   Adds to Citroen e-C4 and Vauxhall Mokka-e, and Vivaro-e van.   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/kia/e-niro/354578/long-range-kia-e-niro-launched-grant-friendly-sub-ps35k-pricetag   AUDI Q4 E-TRON PRODUCTION STARTS Audi Q4 e-tron compact electric SUV production begins in Zwickau, Germany, alongside the VW ID.4. The Q4 e-tron will be sized between the Q3 and Q5 SUVs, and will also gain a Sportback version next year. The Q4 e-tron is expected to have specs similar to those of the ID.4's AWD version, optioned with the longer-range 82-kW battery.   Autoweek points out: "The Q4 is set to go on sale stateside at the end of this year, and will be followed next year by the Q4 Sportback. Audi's baby EV will take on the likes of the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Tesla Model Y, but will likely stay north of the price range of some other new competitors, including the Nissan Ariya and the Kia EV6. After all, there'll be premium price to pay for the four rings on the front."   "Working alongside their colleagues from Volkswagen, more than one hundred Audi employees prepared for the start of production—from production planning and technical development through to quality assurance. The press tools for producing the body parts all come from Audi’s own toolmaking shop. " says GreenCarCongress: "Zwickau and the Audi brand enjoy a long tradition: The Audi car plants were established here in 1909. The Volkswagen plant there has been converted to an all-electric plant and is now an integral part of the Group’s electric offensive. The Audi Q4 e-tron will be unveiled to a global audience in the middle of April and launched on the European markets in the summer of 2021. By 2025, Audi plans to launch more than 20 fully electric models"   https://www.autoweek.com/news/green-cars/a35927317/what-to-expect-from-the-audi-q4-e-tron/   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2021/03/20210324-zwickau.html   VW BOSS SAYS ‘EMBARRASSING’ RULES STOP CHEAP ELECTRIC CAR IMPORTS "Managing director of Volkswagen Australia Michael Bartsch says he cannot convince his German head office to supply Australians with the company’s top-selling mid-range electronic vehicles because of “embarrassing” local laws." says Sydney Morning Herald: "As a result, Australians cannot buy models popular in North America and Europe, such as the ID.3 hatchback and the larger ID.4 SUV, which would be significantly cheaper than the range of Teslas. If they were available in Australia they would cost around $50,000 and $60,000 respectively. A spokesman for Energy and Emissions Minister Angus Taylor said the Morrison government would not be “lectured about vehicles emissions by a car manufacturer that has a track record of deceiving motorists and violating clean-air laws.” In 2020, electric vehicles made up 0.75 per cent of new car sales in Australia, up from 0.6 per cent in 2019."   https://www.smh.com.au/business/consumer-affairs/vw-boss-says-embarrassing-rules-stop-cheap-electric-car-imports-20210322-p57d85.html   FORD ESCAPE PHEV BATTERY PROBLEM SOLVED "Ford unveiled the 2020 Escape at the 2019 New York Auto show, promising that a plug-in hybrid variant would arrive for 2020. But that didn’t happen. In August, Ford had to pause selling the Kuga PHEV, the European version of the Escape, due to a fire risk with the battery." sys Motor1: " The company has resolved the issue in Europe, though production for the US is now facing another problem – the semiconductor shortage. However, the delay shouldn’t last much longer."   https://www.motor1.com/news/496212/ford-escape-phev-battery-delayed/   TESLA BEGINS ACCEPTING BITCOIN "Tesla, the world's biggest electric vehicle company, is accepting Bitcoin as payment for its cars, according to its founder Elon Musk. Mr Musk made the announcement through Twitter on Wednesday. “Tesla is using only internal & open source software & operates Bitcoin nodes directly," Mr Musk said in the tweet. "Bitcoin paid to Tesla will be retained as Bitcoin, not converted to fiat currency.". Tesla has indicated that it will not use a third-party payment processor. Instead, it will start accepting Bitcoin directly and add the cryptocurrency into its own investment portfolio." reports The National News: "In the traditional model, customers first transfer their digital assets from their wallets to a third-party cryptocurrency payment processor. It would then convert Bitcoin into a fiat currency, such as dollars or dirhams, and transfer the final amount to the beneficiary’s account. Currently, telecom company AT&T and technology company Microsoft accept Bitcoin through a third-party payment service provider such as BitPay." Its for the U.S. for now.   https://www.thenationalnews.com/business/technology/tesla-begins-accepting-bitcoin-as-payment-for-its-evs-musk-says-1.1190339   JEEP WRANGLER 4XE DRIVETRAIN " The Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s powertrain is very similar to the powertrain in every other Wrangler model. Like all of those, Wrangler 4xe has an engine up front, the new 2.0-litre turbo four, in this case. It sends power to the transmission, and on through to the transfer case. The transfer case is where that power is split between the Dana axles in front and back, and from there, its power to the ground. To this highly conventional 4×4 driveline setup, a few components are added." explains Driving.ca: "The first of these are a pair of electric motors—one built into the 8-speed automatic transmission, and another attached directly to the engine itself. The front motor applies power to the crankshaft, and the rear motor applies additional electric power through the transmission. Output from the two motors and gasoline engine are managed by a specialized control system that ensures the powertrain is as seamless and invisible as possible from the driver’s seat. By the way, the same hardware that makes that all possible also enhances Wrangler 4xe’s power output considerably. With 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of partial-electric torque, drivers can expect throttle response to be off the charts. That’s nearly as much torque as an SRT 392 powered Rubicon, but while using a fraction of the gas."   https://www.driving.ca/jeep/wrangler/features/feature-story/how-does-the-new-jeep-wrangler-4xe-drivetrain-work       It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast. PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER) RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK (PREMIUM PARTNER)   DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER (PARTNER) eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY FROM MILLBROOK COTTAGES – 5* GOLD SELF CATERING COTTAGES (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY FROM DENOVO REAL ESTATE (PARTNER) JUKKA KUKONEN FROM WWW.SHIFT2ELECTRIC.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN (PARTNER) IAIN SEAR (PARTNER)   ADRIAN BOND (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREW GREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDY NANCARROW AND LILIAN KASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BLUNDERBUSS JONES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRISTOPHER BARTH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DC EV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ED CORTREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERIC HANSEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEINRICH LIESNER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAVIER CARMELO DÍAZ PÉREZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JOHN SCHROEDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHANIEL FREEDMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAYMOND ROWLEDGE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROBERT GRACE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.     VW FINED FOR MISSING EMISSIONS TARGETS   Subtitle: Should have made more EVs. "Volkswagen, the world’s largest carmaker, will pay more than €100m in fines after narrowly missing strict EU emissions targets in 2020, despite launching its flagship electric vehicle during the year." writes Joe Miller and Peter CAmpbell for The FT: "The group, which includes the Audi, Porsche and Seat brands, said its fleet-wide emissions in Europe stood at 99.8 grammes of CO2 per kilometre driven, roughly half a gramme short of the goal set by Brussels. VW ended up buying carbon credits from Chinese carmakers, including MG, Aiways and the Geely-owned electric black taxi maker LEVC, to offset the problem. The fines for missing the targets are €95 for every gramme of CO2 over the limit, multiplied by the number of cars sold across the bloc. VW sold more than 3.6m cars in Europe as a whole last year, although that figure includes non-EU states. FT calculations indicate VW, therefore, faces a fine of approximately €150m."   They still sold 315,400 BEV's in 2020 (2019: 72,600). 9.7% of all new deliveries. 25% of teh EV market.   Read more here: https://www.ft.com/content/22514024-554b-482b-bc4f-25557ab0571d   From VW: Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Audi overfulfill fleet targets Proportion of electric vehicles in EU increased more than fivefold in the same period; Group is clear BEV market leader in Western Europe The Volkswagen Group will systematically step up its e-offensive in 2021 with a large number of new all-electric vehicles based on the Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB). Audi will start this year with the Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback2, CUPRA will launch the el-Born and ŠKODA will bring the Enyaq iV to its customers. Volkswagen Passenger Cars will launch the ID.4 in in a number of additional markets and present a new all-electric model.   CEO Herbert Diess: “Along with Volkswagen and Audi, CUPRA and ŠKODA are now also bringing out attractive electric models, which will allow us to meet the fleet targets this year.”   https://www.volkswagenag.com/en/news/2021/01/Volkswagen-Group-significantly-reduces-CO2-fleet-average-in-the-EU.html     VW CEO TEASES TRINITY PROJECT TO RIVAL TESLA "Trinity will be the next EV development program after Neo, VW's internal codename for the program that led to the ID family of electric cars, Diess tweeted, adding that it will "revolutionize Volkswagen". In a LinkedIn post, Ralf Brandstätter, CEO for VW passenger cars, elaborated a bit. He said Trinity will comprise a new platform, more sophisticated driver-assist tech (reaching Level 4 on the SAE autonomous-driving scale), and a "radically new production approach" implemented at the revamped Wolfsburg factory." says Green Car Reports: "Trinity may be related to Project Artemis, VW-owned Audi's attempt to launch a high-efficiency flagship EV by 2024, while creating a template for a faster development process. Audi could potentially take the lead in developing a vehicle platform that will be available to all VW Group brands."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1131020_vw-ceo-teases-trinity-project-to-rival-tesla-revamp-wolfsburg-plant-for-evs   TOYOTA LAUNCHES RAV4 PLUG-IN HYBRID IN THE UK RAV4 Plug-in operates as an authentic electric vehicle: EV running is its default mode, in which it can cover up to 61 miles in urban driving (WLTP city cycle) on a full battery charge, and 46 miles in mixed (WLTP combined cycle) driving, comfortably more than the average European daily commute, and reach speeds of 84mph (where permitted), with no intervention from the hybrid powertrain. The driver can select from four different drive modes to suit the journey or personal preference, including an Auto EV/HV mode which automatically switches the vehicle to HV operation when extra drive power is needed, bringing the 2.5-litre hybrid engine into play, then returning to EV operation when conditions allow. On-the-road prices are £47,395 for the Dynamic and £50,895 for the Dynamic Premium. For company car tax payers, the benefit-in-kind rating for the RAV4 Plug-in Dynamic is from six per cent.   BMW ANNOUNCES ELECTRIC M CAR IS COMING THIS YEAR "An electric BMW M car is coming this year. That’s official news coming from the mouth of Markus Flasch, chairman of the board of BMW M. There’s no official date for a reveal yet, so BMW has 11 months and some change to work with. The latest reports suggest that the car will be an M Performance version of the upcoming i4. Nearly 83,000 plugin vehicles (PEVs) were registered in December, resulting in an amazing 27% market share. Full electric vehicles (BEVs) alone accounted for 14% market share in December, making Germany the largest PEV market outside China" says CleanTechnica: "he end of 2020 became a stampede into electrified vehicles, getting to a point where, despite tanking fossil fuel sales, electrified sales allowed the overall market to actually grow 10% YoY in December."   BEVs For December 2020: ID.3 Zoe Model 3 Kona EV ID.4 e-Up!   https://cleantechnica.com/2021/01/20/27-plugin-vehicle-share-in-germany-open-the-plugin-gates/   NISSAN’S E-NV200 WINTER CAMPER "Nissan has revealed a rather unexpected EV: a concept e-NV200 van called the Winter Camper.  Even before you know the details, the styling is head-turningly brilliant. Those chunky tyres and mountain decals make the Winter Camper look like the sort of machine The A-Team would drive on an Alpine adventure." reports CAR mag: "The idea behind the e-NV200 Winter Camper is to showcase how a camper with both an EV platform and some genuine off-road ability would look. Nissan says the Winter Camper has been armed with bespoke upgrades such as a raised ride height and knobbly off-road tyres to tackle challenging terrain.  Whether or not the Winter Camper actually makes it into production, it shows that Nissan is still prepared to stick its neck out and suggest that vehicles can be individual and fun"   The e-NV200 Winter Camper is powered by the same 40kWh electric battery as the e-NV200 Combi. Range between 124 and 187 miles.   https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/nissan/e-nv200-winter-camper/   OPEL/VAUXHALL PRESENTS COMBO-E CARGO VAN "Opel-Vauxhall has presented the new Combo-e Cargo. From size and capability, the all-electric high-roof van fits in between the Vivaro-e electric van and the big Movano-e that the brand will unveil later this year." says electrive: "Vauxhall notes that the new Combo-e is ideal for both business and private users looking for a zero-emissions van in the UK. The Combo-e Cargo is equipped with the familiar 100 kW electric drive and a 50 kWh battery, which enables a WLTP range of up to 275 kilometres. Vauxhall cites a range of up to 171 miles (WLTP). The small commercial vehicle also matches the familiar e-CMP models when it comes to charging: At a DC charging station with 100 kW or more, the battery is 80 per cent charged in 30 minutes"   https://www.electrive.com/2021/01/20/opel-vauxhall-presents-the-combo-e-cargo/   TESLA Q4 CA REGISTRATIONS SPIKE 63% " More than 22,000 Tesla vehicles were registered in California in Q4 2020, an increase of about 63% over the same period in 2019." according to Tesmanian: "Model Y is becoming more popular than its older sibling, Model 3, and more than half of all sales in the state are from the electric compact SUV. Sales data show that Tesla sold about 3,656 Model S/X, 7,044 Model 3, and 11,417 Model Y"   https://www.tesmanian.com/blogs/tesmanian-blog/tesla-california-registrations-rose-63-in-q4-demonstrating-the-strength-of-the-brand   NOTTINGHAM TO COMBINE V2G, SOLAR AND BATTERY STORAGE "An intelligent energy management system is being developed in Nottingham to optimise clean technology including a fleet of electric vehicles (EVs), battery storage and solar." says Current NEws: "The chargers themselves are to have vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality, allowing for short-term energy storage and grid balancing. Whilst there has been no final decision on a supplier for these chargers – or for the battery storage element of the project, which is set to have a capacity of 500kWh – Nottingham already owns a range of vehicles capable of smart charging which will be integrated into the system first."     QUESTION OF THE WEEK When did you first know you wanted to drive EV?   Send me your answer: hello@evnewsdaily.com   You can listen to all 968 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) AVID TECHNOLOGY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER) RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK (PREMIUM PARTNER)   DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY – MILLBROOK COTTAGES AND ELOPEMENT WEDDING VENUE (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY FROM DENOVO REAL ESTATE (PARTNER) JUKKA KUKONEN FROM WWW.SHIFT2ELECTRIC.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN (PARTNER) IAN SEAR (PARTNER)   ALAN ROBSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREW GREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRISTOPHER BARTH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG COLES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVE DEWSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) EDWYN CORTREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERIC HANSEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GILBERTO ROSADO (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GEOFF LOWE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEINRICH LIESNER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JOHN SCHROEDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEN MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KYLE MAHAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LARS DAHLAGER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARK BOSSERT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MATT PISCIONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MICHAEL PASTRONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHANIEL FREEDMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NICHOLAS MILLER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NIGEL MILES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL RIDINGS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAJ BADWAL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RICHARD LUPINSKY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB HERMANS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROBERT GRACE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. Trucks, vans, buses, taxis, electric vans, fire engines, ambulances, waste disposal trucks – Britain’s commercial vehicle sector is very diverse. While challenged by the Covid-19 crisis there are bright spots, as home deliveries increase and commercial transport reduces carbon emissions. Will Stirling reports. The UK’s commercial vehicle (CV) sector comprises a nice mix of the old and the new, from Leyland Trucks whose parent company made its first truck in 1896 to start-up Arrival that is already tipped to be a world leader in manufacturing electric vans and buses. Depressed by the COVID-19 crisis, CVs are still essential to business, so the sector has weathered the storm far better than mainstream automotive and some companies are doing well. Industry body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed in August that the light CV market (i.e. vans up to 3.5 tonnes), grew in July for the first time since January. This was up 7.1% on the same month in 2019, attributing the return to work for sectors like construction where vans are needed. Two megatrends are helping the CV and light commercial vehicle (LCV) sector: the growth of home delivery and net-zero carbon targets. A sector hit hard is bus manufacture, as the pandemic dried up demand for public transport, this is only now slowly returning. In this automotive report, we offer a round-up of the commercial vehicle industry with an optimistic view from an automotive expert, Professor David Bailey. Vauxhall Vivaro Vauxhall, part of the PSG Group, manufactures left and right-hand drive Vivaro vans for its Opel, Peugeot and Citroen brands from its Luton factory. Luton went down to one shift during lockdown but returned to two shifts and then three shifts in July as demand for the popular van grew, pulling 200 employees from the quieter Ellesmere Port factory which manufactures the Opel Astra. Luton produced 55,000 vans in 2019 down from 62,000 in 2018, as the plant completely retooled in 2019 for the manufacture of the latest Vivaro model. Headcount is now up to 1750 and production is at full capacity. Some big orders have been placed for Vauxhall’s new fully electric Vivaro-e vans. Openreach, the BT division, has placed an order of 270 Vivaro-e vans and 9 Corsa-e-cars and in July the car company signed a deal with British Gas to supply 1,000 e-vans, the biggest commercial EV fleet in Britain to date. Leyland Trucks US truck builder PACCAR owns DAF, the owner of the Leyland Truck brand, which manufactures circa 19,000 medium and heavy-duty trucks per year from its Preston factory. All European DAF plants in Belgium, The Netherlands and the UK implemented big Covid-response factory measures from March to April and recommenced operations on 27 April. “For the moment we are less concerned about production figures,” said Harry Wolters. “Instead, the safety of DAF and Leyland Trucks employees is our number one priority and it is why the production volume is still relatively low. We will only crank it up when it is safe to do so. London Electric Vehicle Company Originally called The London Taxi Company under then parent Manganese Bronze, until ownership by Chinese automotive group Geely changed it to LEVC, this Coventry firm has always exclusively manufactured the iconic London ‘Hackney cab’ taxis. Responding to the call for Net Zero by 2040 or 2050 depending on the specific industry targets, LEVC chose a fully electric motor variant only and will now manufacture an electric van, the VN5, with up to 5.5m3 capacity and a gross payload of 830kg built on a modified chassis of the classic taxi. VN5 has a ‘zero emissions capable’ range of over 300 miles delivered by LEVC’s eCity electric technology, and its capacity easily accommodates two Euro sized pallets. As more short-range and last-mile logistics firms move to zero emissions, prospects for the VN5 are bright. Alexander Dennis (ADL) The bus manufacturer, part of the NFI Group that owns US bus brands and UK coachbuilder Plaxton, has factories in Guildford, Falkirk and Scarborough and until the pandemic, was riding high with group revenues breaking £500m. Sadly, the virus put the brakes on new sales as thousands of people shunned public transport and orders for buses in the UK and abroad dried up, and the firm announced 650 job losses in July. This could be avoided or reduced if the cash-strapped government fulfils its earlier pledge to buy 4,000 electric buses, a large slice of which would go to ADL. This decision is currently delayed. So, for now, the redundancies are set to go ahead and this great British company is facing a troubled future. Wright Bus Ryse Hydrogen, a hydrogen production and refuelling business owned by Jo Bamford, son of JCB owner Lord Anthony Bamford, rescued troubled Northern Irish bus manufacturer Wrightbus in 2018. Wrightbus had pioneered hydrogen-powered buses and pre-Covid had a small number operating in London when it fell into difficulties. Bamford saw the neat fit with Ryse Hydrogen and pounced, saving hundreds of jobs at Wrightbus. It now needs orders and Ryse and Wrightbus have presented a business plan to the government to subsidise the manufacture of 3,000 new hydrogen buses while outlining how the UK could become a ‘global leader in hydrogen technologies’, that would they claim could create 1,000 new jobs at Wrightbus and 150 at Ryse Hydrogen. Arrival Arrival describes itself as one of the UK’s largest unicorns – businesses with a future value over US$1bn within an unspecified timescale. A quick look at its new electric Arrival Bus gives credence to such hype, and its business plan goes way beyond manufacturing. As well as the bus and the Arrival Generation 2 electric vans that secured a whopping 10,000 unit order from delivery group UPS in January, the new company wants to create an ‘Integrated Public Transportation Ecosystem’ that includes buses, car sharing, taxis, delivery robots, charging infrastructure, micro-factories for production and digital services, where it wants to help cities meet net-zero emissions targets. Angloco Late in 2019, the UK’s oldest manufacturer of fire vehicles secured a big deal to replace and service most of the UK Ministry of Defence’s fire fleet. The £30m order comes via the Defence Fire and Rescue Project – a large outsourcing sales and support contract recently awarded to Capita plc. Under the contract, Angloco will supply more than 80 modern fire fighting vehicles and support them in the UK and globally for the next 12 years. Before the MoD deal, Angloco reported strong growth in 2019 and a second factory opening, a 12,000sq/ft unit opposite its 30,000sq/ft headquarters in Batley, West Yorkshire – that will be capable of manufacturing 100 fire engines a year.

Show #842   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 18th July 2020. Welcome to a new Patreon PRODUCER NIKLAS NORRSÉN   NEW YORK TO INVEST $750 MILLION TO EXPAND ELECTRIC-VEHICLE INFRASTRUCTURE "New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced an investment program that would allocate $750 million to build charging stations and other electric-vehicle infrastructure as part of the state's long-term goal to reduce emissions. The measure is set to create more than 50,000 charging stations and will largely be funded by the state's investor-owned utility companies, with the total budget capped at $701 million through 2025." reports Autoblog: "An additional $48.8 million is allocated from a 2017 settlement with German carmaker Volkswagen AG over its diesel emissions cheating scandal to fund electric school and transit buses, as well as charging stations. New York's announcement comes on the heels of a similar measure by Florida, which on July 10 announced an $8.6 million investment to expand charging stations."   https://www.autoblog.com/2020/07/17/new-york-to-invest-750-million-to-expand-electric-vehicle-infrastructure/   RENAULT ZOE VAN REVEALED AS PRACTICAL SMALL EV WITH 245-MILE RANGE "Created by applying modest modifications to the Zoe road car – most notably opaque rear windows and the removal of the rear seats to form a flat load area – the Zoe Van will be powered by the same 52kWh battery pack and 107bhp R110 electric motor. Its range is rated at 245 miles per charge under the WLTP test cycle, allowing for a 50% payload and 75kg driver."£ says Autocar: "Prices without VAT but with the plug-in van grant start at £19,380 and rise to £20,995, highlighting the business savings over the Zoe road car, which starts from £28,795 with VAT and prior to the application of the electric vehicle grant."   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/renault-zoe-van-revealed-practical-small-ev-245-mile-range   UK COULD BAN NON-ELECTRIC NEW CAR SALES BY 2030, SAYS SHELL "Royal Dutch Shell expects the UK can end the sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles in just a decade, as the nation attempts to eliminate emissions by the middle of the century." accordin to WorldOil.com: "The ban can be brought forward to 2030 with “the right policy and incentives,” Sinead Lynch, the head of oil giant Shell’s operations in Britain said on LinkedIn. That’s five years earlier than the deadline set by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in February, and also beats the 2032 date that Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said may be possible to achieve. Europe’s biggest oil companies have been preparing for a slowdown in fuels demand, and are increasingly turning their attention to electricity production"   https://www.worldoil.com/news/2020/7/17/uk-could-ban-non-electric-new-car-sales-by-2030-says-shell   DS TO FOCUS ON BEV & PHEV AS OF 2025 "The electrification strategy of the PSA brand DS Automobiles provides for an even stronger orientation towards e-mobility: From 2025, DS intends to offer only fully electric models and plug-in hybrids." says electrive: "Currently, the French have a pure electric car in their range with the DS 3 Crossback E-TENSE, which takes over the drive technology from the Opel Corsa-e and Peugeot e-208. DS 4 E-TENSE is to be presented before the end of this year. At the beginning of June it was announced that a DS model will be built at Opel in Rüsselsheim from 2021 – according to reports, this will be the DS 4. Although the model is to be based on the larger EMP2 platform (which is currently offered at most as a PHEV), an electric motor with 100 kW output and a 50 kWh battery are mentioned as probable technical data."   https://www.electrive.com/2020/07/17/ds-to-focus-on-bev-phev-as-of-2025/   ITALY’S BEV SALES DOUBLED IN FIRST HALF OF 2020 "Italy’s EV market is finally getting hot. Following months of unprecedented growth and despite an incredibly adverse time in history, electric mobility has now reached the halfway point of this infamous year with outstanding figures, doubling sales from 2019. And the most important aspect is, we haven’t seen anything yet." reports CleanTechnica: "Market share of hybrid and fully electric cars lags behind that of other European nations such as the UK, France, and Germany, let alone Scandinavian countries. market share of fully electric cars now stands at 1.7%. the Italian BEV market from booming in the first six months of 2020, doubling year over year to about 10,000 units."   Zoe, Smart ForTwo, e-Up! the Top 3.   https://cleantechnica.com/2020/07/17/italys-bev-sales-doubled-in-first-half-of-2020-the-only-way-is-up/   PORSCHE DELIVERED 4,480 TAYCAN ELECTRIC CARS IN FIRST HALF OF 2020 "The first deliveries of the Taycan started late last year, and therefore, 2020 is the first full year of production and deliveries for Porsche’s first all-electric car, with 4,480 deliveries during the first half of 2020." says Electrek: "Aside from the pandemic, another thing that could have affected Taycan sales in the first half of the year is that the Taycan 4S, the cheaper version of the electric sedan, arrived just a few months ago. Furthermore, Porsche recently announced the RWD version of the Taycan, which will bring the base price even lower. However, the German automaker has only confirmed deliveries of that version for the Chinese market so far."   https://electrek.co/2020/07/17/porsche-taycan-electric-car-first-half-2020/   GENERAL MOTORS PROVIDES DETAILS FOR LINE OF FUTURE ELECTRIC VEHICLES Beginning in 2020, GM’s EV portfolio will begin to expand with launches by Chevrolet, GMC and Buick. The next Chevrolet EV will be a new version of the Bolt EV, launching in 2021 as a 2022 model, followed by the 2022 Bolt EUV, launching Summer 2021. The Bolt EUV will be the first vehicle outside of the Cadillac brand to feature Super Cruise, the industry’s first true hands-free driver assistance technology for the highway. Later in 2020, GM plans to reveal the Cadillac Lyriq luxury SUV. Production of the Ultium-powered GMC Hummer EV is expected to begin in Fall 2021 at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. A Buick SUV will offer more conventional crossover proportion that maximizes interior space and cargo. A Buick CUV will feature more expressive proportion with a greater emphasis on form and athletic fashion.   LIGHTNING SYSTEMS DEBUTS NEW ELECTRIC FORD F-550 FOR SHUTTLE BUSES, DELIVERY TRUCKS "Lightning Systems has introduced an all-electric powertrain for the popular Ford F-550 Chassis Cab. Show #779   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Friday 15th May 2020. TESLA'S MILLION MILE BATTERY WILL SLASH COSTS "For months, Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has been teasing investors, and rivals, with promises to reveal significant advances in battery technology during a "Battery Day" in late May." says Autoblog: "New, low-cost batteries designed to last for a million miles of use and enable electric Teslas to sell profitably for the same price or less than a gasoline vehicle are just part of Musk's agenda, people familiar with the plans told Reuters. The new “million mile” battery at the center of Tesla's strategy was jointly developed with China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd (CATL) and deploys technology developed by Tesla in collaboration with a team of academic battery experts recruited by Musk, three people familiar with the effort said. Eventually, improved versions of the battery, with greater energy density and storage capacity and even lower cost, will be introduced in additional Tesla vehicles in other markets, including North America, the sources said. Reuters reported exclusively in February that Tesla was in advanced talks to use CATL’s lithium iron phosphate batteries, which use no cobalt, the most expensive metal in EV batteries."   First I have read about it being in China first. Also, CATL being a partner too. Cell to pack technology - rather than cells to modules to packs. Price parity, and possibly even cheaper EVs than fossil cars.   https://www.autoblog.com/2020/05/14/tesla-secret-electric-car-battery-million-mile-lower-cost/   TESLA STARTS BUILDING LONG RANGE MODEL 3 CARS AT CHINA PLANT "Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) said on Thursday it had started producing Long Range Model 3 vehicles in its Shanghai factory and aimed to deliver them to customers soon." reports Reuters: "The company said the model would be sold at 344,050 yuan ($48,495), keeping the price steady even after China stops offering generous subsidies from July for electric vehicles that cost more than 300,000 yuan."   https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tesla-china-price/tesla-starts-building-long-range-model-3-cars-at-china-plant-idUSKBN22Q1BR   CHINA’S MODEL 3 INTERIOR RECEIVES A TIMELY MODEL Y-INSPIRED UPDATE " the latest Model 3 units produced in Gigafactory Shanghai are fitted with both USB Type C charging ports and a wireless charging pad, both of which are utilized in the Tesla Model Y." reckons Teslarati: "Tesla’s use of USB-C and wireless charging capabilities are an advantage for electric car owners. Many mobile devices on the market today are capable of fast-charging with USB-C ports, and flagship devices from premier smartphone makes such as Apple and Samsung are equipped with wireless charging capabilities. Gigafactory Shanghai’s Phase 2 is expected to house a Model Y factory. Currently, the local production plant is poised to hit a production run-rate of 200,000 Model 3 sedans every year."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-china-model-3-model-y-interior-update/   VOLVO CEO SAYS VIRUS WILL ACCELERATE EV ADOPTION Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson. Speaking at a Financial Times global digital conference: "Electrification will go faster. I think it would be naive to believe after some months, everything will return to normal, and our customers will come back into a showroom asking for diesel cars. They will ask even more for electric cars. And that is speeding up. If governments subsidize a return to the old world, I think would be a waste of money. They should use the money to promote new technology as they were planning to do before corona. The way we distribute cars, with physical showrooms and so on, I think everybody has learned during this shutdown that e-commerce is working, and more and more people have experience. That will encourage people to look for cars online. So I think the distribution and where you’re selling cars will change. It has been changing already, but that will be changed more rapidly now."   h/t electrek: https://electrek.co/2020/05/14/volvo-ceo-pandemic-will-rapidly-accelerate-shift-to-electric-cars/   ONE FUTURE GM ELECTRIC VEHICLE MAY BE INTRODUCED EARLIER THAN PLANNED "" it looks as though one future GM electric vehicle could even arrive earlier than planned. Vice President of Electric and Autonomous Vehicles at GM, Ken Morris, indicated that one EV program may be pulled forward." says GM Authority: "Morris indicated that several other GM electric vehicle-related plans remained unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that GM’s deal with Honda to produce two new electric vehicles was still moving ahead, and that plans to source new renewable energy from DTE were also on track. Morris also said that GM’s $25 billion budget for EV programs was still in place."   https://gmauthority.com/blog/2020/05/one-future-gm-electric-vehicle-may-be-introduced-earlier-than-planned/   DACIA PREPARES TO LAUNCH FIRST EV WITH SPRING MINI-SUV "Dacia’s first electric vehicle, the Spring, which is based on the Renault K-ZE mini-SUV sold in China, will go on sale early next year. The Spring was first revealed as a concept in early March, in an online presentation instead of at the cancelled Geneva auto show. The production version will have a range of “at least” 200 km (124) miles, Dacia says." according to Automotive News Europe: "Dacia has not announced a price, but the City K-ZE sells in China for about 8,000 euros ($8,900). Former Renault Group CEO Thierry Bollore said last year that the automaker was working on an electric vehicle that would sell for 10,000 euros or less."   Car sharing, fleets, hiring, all options   https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/dacia-prepares-launch-first-ev-spring-mini-suv?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter   ELECTRIC PANEL VANS FROM CITROEN, PEUGEOT AND VAUXHALL/OPEL Earlier this week I talked about the electric van Citroen e-jumpy, I didn't make clear for UK listeners that it's also known as the e-Dispatch here. So for the UK: "Citroen has launched the ë-Dispatch, the French firm's latest pure-electric van, offering up to 205 miles on a single charge. A 50 kWh pack will allow for a 143 mile range on a charge, whilst the 75 kWh battery offers the headline 205 mile range. Either will power a 100 kW electric motor." says Next Green Car. From Opel we already mentioned the Vivaro-e which is a larger panel van: "The 75kWh battery boasts a range of up to 330 kilometres, or for less intense usage needs, the 50kWh battery has a range of up to 230km (WLTP)." And finally from electrive: "Peugeot has also presented its version of the battery-electric transporter with the e-Expert. The technology is identical to that of its two sister models. Peugeot plans to announce prices in June. The drive train and the batteries are the same for all models: the electric motor known from the Opel Corsa-e and Peugeot e-208 and e-2008 has an output of 100 kW. In contrast to the small cars, however, two battery sizes are offered in the vans, each with 50 and 75 kWh.  Like the Opel Vivaro-e, Peugeot offers a three-phase AC charger with 11 kW in addition to the standard AC charger with 7.4 kW (single-phase)." With a max payload of 1,210 kg these are useful vans, with towing of 1,000kg.   BYD HAN EV REVEALED AS TESLA MODEL 3 RIVAL The Han EV is the first full-electric passenger car equipped with BYD’s ground-breaking new ‘Blade Battery’ technology – delivering greatly enhanced safety, improved range capability and a simplified, smaller pack design. The innovative battery system also pushes its cruising range up to 605 kilometres (376 miles) on a full charge. The Blade Battery can produce a stable current of up to 800 Amps powering the BYD Han EV. The high-performance silicon carbide motor-control module improves the peak-current capacity by 58%, enabling acceleration from 0 to100km/h (62mph) in just 3.9 seconds. Additionally, the Han is also China’s first mass-produced EV equipped with Bosch’s ‘IPB Intelligent Integrated Brake System’, which not only brings braking safety with higher precision, but also delivers a longer range and improved braking comfort.   MORE ON HYUNDAI 45 EV "Hyundai has been spotted testing a prototype for a compact electric crossover SUV that's expected to be launched in 2021." says MotorAuthority: Hyundai already offers EVs in the form of the battery-electric Ioniq Electric and Kona Electric and fuel cell-electric Nexo, but the new SUV will be the automaker's first vehicle based on a platform designed specifically for battery-electric cars. Called the E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), the platform will also likely be used by Kia and Genesis for their own EVs."   https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1127263_2021-hyundai-45-electric-suv-spy-shots   HOT CUPRA VERSION OF SEAT EL-BORN ELECTRIC CAR IN THE PIPELINE "Cupra, SEAT’s performance-focussed brand, could soon launch a hot version of the el-Born EV. The Spanish brand has recently filed trademark applications for both the “Cupra Born” and “Cupra el-Born” nameplates." writes AutoExpress: "The Cupra el-Born would be based on the Volkswagen Group’s dedicated MEB electric underpinnings. Unlike the standard SEAT el-Born, though, this Cupra variant should feature a more powerful electric motor, supplied by a larger-capacity battery pack. The el-Born concept looks similar in length to a SEAT Leon, but it rides on larger wheels up to 20-inches in diameter. Like all of the Volkswagen Group’s MEB cars, the el-Born also has a long wheelbase relative to its overall length – which should allow it to deliver the interior space of a car from the class above."   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/seat/100354/hot-cupra-version-seat-el-born-electric-car-pipeline   QUESTION OF THE WEEK   …it’s back!

Show #763   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 29thApril 2020. VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 ELECTRIC CROSSOVER SPIED IN 'COUPE' FORM Autoblog  says: "a fan of one of our spy photographers happened upon an ID.4 prototype and shared them with said photographer and us. It shows that the crossover will be getting a low-roof "coupe" variant. It was thinly disguised, too, with the most elaborate camouflage being some amusingly fake tail pipes."The crossover has a similar size and proportion to the ID.4 prototypes we've seen at shows and in testing. It shares the same curvy bodywork, too. But the roof slopes downward from about the back of the rear doors all the way to the tail to give it the fastback roof that has proven so popular among luxury crossover buyers. It looks like rear headroom may not be particularly reduced compared to some other fastback crossovers, but luggage space certainly will. This example also features a natty little wing at the tip of the hatch for some more sporty flair. The standard ID.4 is expected to have an 83-kWh battery pack good for about 250 miles of range, too. "   GTX is supposedly the electric GTI, and 4 wheel drive.   https://www.autoblog.com/2020/04/29/vw-id4-coupe-ev-gtx-spy-shots/#slide-2228895   OPEL VIVARO-E ARRIVES THIS YEAR "Opel unveiled more details about the new Vivaro-e that arrives later this year. It comes with a 100 kW motor and two battery options that offer a WLTP range of 230 and 330 km (142 and 205 miles). While there’s no official information about the battery cells, I assume these are the same that are used in the Peugeot e-208 and Opel Corsa-e." says Pedro at PushEVs: "The Opel Vivaro-e seems to be a great alternative to the veteran Nissan e-NV200, which only gets a WLTP range of 200 km (124 miles) from a 40 kWh battery. Since Carlos Ghosn left, Nissan really dropped the ball regarding electric vehicles."   From the press release:   For the “last mile” and beyond: up to 230 or 330 kilometres electric range (WLTP1) Powerful: 100 kW (136hp) electric motor with 260Nm torque Easy to use: variety of charging options, payment via “Free2Move Services” app Comfortable: check state-of-charge or programme charging times via “myOpel” app Unique: the only compact electric LCV available ex works with optional trailer hitch Safety for professionals: driver assistance systems enhance protection   https://pushevs.com/2020/04/28/opel-vivaro-e-arrives-this-year/   TESLA MODEL 3 WAS #2 BEST SELLING CAR IN EUROPE IN MARCH 2020 "Stats for the 27 European markets reveal a decrease in new passenger car registrations by 52% to 848,800 in March (and 3.04 million in Q1), which is the worst result in 38 years. In terms of the type of powertrain, electrified cars - xEVs (BEVs, PHEVs, HEVs) - expanded in March by 15% year-over-year to 147,500 and a record market share of 17.4% (compared to 7.3% a year ago). xEV expansion was possible only because of plug-ins, as hybrids actually went down by 11%. The Tesla Model 3 turned out to be the second best-selling car overall for the month of March 2020. That's the second podium for the Model 3 in Europe, after a third place in December 2019. This time, the volume was lower - above 15,000 compared to over 22,000, but as the overall market collapsed, it was possible for the Model 3 to beat all but the Volkswagen Golf."   https://insideevs.com/news/419117/tesla-model3-best-selling-europe-march-2020/   FORD FILES TRADEMARK FOR LINCOLN EGLIDE "We just received news from members on MachEClub.com, a Ford Mustang Mach-E forum, that the automaker filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. More specifically, it's for the LINCOLN eGLIDE." says Mark at InsideEVs: "Initially, people called it the Lincoln eGlide EV, but there's nothing official that points to this being the case. However, we do know that both Ford and Lincoln are ramping up their electric vehicle efforts. Sadly, though, Lincoln was supposed to have an upcoming EV project in partnership with Rivian Automotive, but that has now been canceled due to COVID-19. Some speculate that eGlide could have something to do with a vehicle suspension, an operating mode, or a component. Could it be something like a Ludicrous Mode or Launch Mode? Will Lincoln bring the world's most coddling electric SUV to market?"   https://insideevs.com/news/419062/lincoln-eglide-patent-filed/   POLESTAR 2 RECEIVES TOP MARKS IN CRASH SAFETY TESTS "Polestar announced on April 28 that its newest car underwent crash safety tests.  It is the first vehicle in the company’s lineup to feature Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) technology and front-inner-side airbags. Polestar prioritized the protection of its battery pack, noting the “crucial” task of preventing the vehicle’s power source from being punctured or damaged in a collision as well." says Teslarati: ". It also protects the battery from permanent damage. Polestar utilized a Severe Partial Offset Crash (SPOC) block to help accomplish this, which is a reflective solid aluminum barrier that his housed on the bottom edge of the vehicle’s front firewall. The SPOC block minimizes the possibility of objects coming into the passenger cabin or toward the battery pack in the event of a frontal collision. The presence of this barrier also makes up for the lack of an internal combustion engine, which usually adds a barrier for passengers in the event of a crash. Polestar announced on April 23 that the Polestar 2 was available for sale in the U.S. with a starting price of $59,900. Deliveries are expected to begin Summer 2020."   https://www.teslarati.com/polestar-2-top-marks-crash-safety/   SK INNOVATION TO SPEND $1.5B ON GEORGIA PLANTS, AS ‘CENTER’ OF WORLD EV BATTERY INDUSTRY "SK Innovation, a South Korean battery supplier for Volkswagen and Ford, said on Tuesday it will spend $727 million to build a second EV battery plant in the United States. Construction is expected to begin in July, with battery production slated to start in 2023." according to Bradley at electrek: "The company is currently building its first factory in the United States, in Georgia, with a planned investment of $903 million. That plant can output 9.8GWh factory, primarily to serve Volkswagen EV production in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A March article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said the first factory is expected to produce enough batteries to power 250,000 electric vehicles per year at full capacity. The proposed No.2 plant will be even bigger than the first one. Today’s report by Reuters said annual capacity for the second plant will be 11.7 gigawatt-hours of batteries. But the story last month in AJC reported a long term vision on a larger scale: The site can accommodate a facility to produce 50 gigawatt [hours] worth of batteries or five times the production of the project’s first two phases, a company official said."   https://electrek.co/2020/04/28/sk-innovation-to-spend-1-5b-on-georgia-plants-as-center-of-world-ev-battery-industry/   AUDI WITHDRAWS FROM DTM TO FOCUS ON FORMULA E "Audi will leave the German Touring Car series (DTM) at the end of this year and concentrate fully on Formula E. “With this energy, we’re going to drive our transformation into a provider of sporty, sustainable electric mobility forward,” says Markus Duesmann, Chairman of the Board at AUDI." reports electrive: "The DTM withdrawal is one of Duesmann’s first high-profile decisions the former BMW board joined the board on 1 April."   https://www.electrive.com/2020/04/28/audi-withdraws-from-dtm-to-focus-on-formula-e/   UK BLOWN AWAY AS HUGE NEW WIND FARM WILL SOON POWER 170,000 HOMES "A 50-turbine wind farm in southern Scotland will be up and running by 2023, sustainable energy firm Vattenfall confirmed this week." says EuroNews.com: "South Kyle Windfarm, near Dalmellington, is set to be the firm’s largest onshore wind farm in the United Kingdom. Once construction is complete, the turbines will be able to power approximately 170,000 UK homes, saving nearly 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. That’s the equivalent of 65,000 cars being taken off the road. The deal agreed by Vattenfall and Greencoat UK Wind will cost £320 million. While this is a substantial amount, according to renewable UK, investments such as these pay off as “onshore wind offers the most cost-effective choice for new electricity in the UK, bar none - it is cheaper than gas, nuclear, coal and other renewables.”   Fully operational by 2023.   Check out the story here: https://www.euronews.com/living/2020/04/28/uk-blown-away-as-huge-new-wind-farm-will-soon-power-170-000-homes     QUESTION OF THE WEEK   What car have you driven in your lifetime you would love to be able to convert to EV?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 233 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future.

Themen heute:    Neuer Ford Explorer kommt mit Plug-In-Hybrid-Antrieb  ///   Dritte Generation startklar: Neuer Opel Vivaro ab sofort bestellbar   Foto: Ford Werke GmbH 1.

August 1.
