Is self-care selfish or is neglecting yourself the real problem? Continuing the Summer Reset series on the Jesus Over Everything podcast, Lisa Whittle tackles one of the most loaded terms in modern culture and offers a distinction that changes everything: it's not whether you practice self-care, it's what the end goal of your self-care actually is. Lisa answers listener questions directly – including her personal take on Botox, lip injections, hair extensions, and eyelash enhancements – before getting to the heart of what she really wants to talk about: four red flags that signal self-care has crossed into self-obsession, and what it looks like when a Jesus follower takes care of herself for the right reasons. Three Types of Rest for Managing Stress with Gary Ware [Re-release]

Text your thoughts and questions! We often think rest is something we earn after we've worked hard enough. We push through exhaustion, tell ourselves we'll slow down later, and believe that getting more done is the key to feeling better. But what if we've been thinking about rest all wrong? This week, in episode 323 of the Positively LivingⓇ Podcast, we're revisiting one of our most impactful conversations with Gary Ware, founder of Breakthrough Play, keynote speaker, certified coach, and bestselling author of Playful Rebellion. As part of our summer series on energy, stress, and nervous system regulation, this timely re-release explores why rest is essential—not as a reward for productivity, but as the foundation that makes sustainable productivity possible.Gary Ware is the founder of Breakthrough Play, a keynote speaker, certified coach, and the bestselling author of Playful Rebellion. Through applied improvisation, positive psychology, and the science of play, Gary helps individuals and organizations reduce stress, strengthen communication, spark creativity, and build more sustainable ways of working. His mission is to help people challenge the belief that productivity requires constant hustle and instead embrace play and rest as powerful tools for greater impact, innovation, and well-being.In this conversation, Gary introduces three distinct types of rest—macro, micro, and meso—and explains how each one helps reduce stress, restore creativity, and support your energy in different ways. He also shares why play isn't childish, why entrepreneurs often resist rest the most, and how small shifts can dramatically improve your focus, well-being, and impact.Key Takeaways:Rest isn't something you earn. It's something that allows you to do your best work.Chronic stress keeps your brain in fight, flight, or freeze mode, reducing creativity, empathy, and clear thinking.Better sleep isn't always about getting more hours. Improving the quality of your sleep can make a significant difference.A consistent wind-down routine helps your body transition into restorative sleep.Macro rest focuses on deep restoration through quality sleep and recovery.Micro rest consists of short five-minute breaks throughout the day that help reset your brain and restore energy between tasks.Scrolling social media or checking email isn't true rest. Choose activities that genuinely recharge you instead.Meso rest means intentionally stepping away from work for several hours, a day, or longer to pursue hobbies, family time, or activities that bring joy.Hobbies aren't a luxury—they help your brain make creative connections and improve problem-solving.Play looks different for everyone. The goal isn't to do what others find fun, but to discover what genuinely restores and energizes you.Sustainable productivity begins with honoring your energy, not constantly pushing through exhaustion.Rest isn't the opposite of productivity—it's what makes productivity sustainable. When you give yourself permission to rest before you're completely depleted, you create space for greater creativity, better decisions, stronger relationships, and more meaningful work. What would change if you stopped trying to earn your rest and started treating it as one of your greatest strengths?Thank you for listening! Today, we talk about self-care and neurodiverse marriage and family life with podcaster Christina Marie. Christina says about herself:Hey, I'm Christina—married 18 years to a neurodiverse man and mom of three neurodiverse kids. For years, I tried to fix our home environment, hoping to ease the sensory and communication challenges in my neurodiverse family. But no matter how much I read or how many Christian experts I listened to, nothing bridged the gap between meeting everyone else's needs and caring for myself. I was exhausted carrying so many responsibilities while my needs were unmet. My husband was frustrated with his limitations and didn't know what to do. My neurodiverse kids needed my help to navigate a world they didn't always understand, but their meltdowns and challenges were overwhelming and exhausting at times. My health began to decline as I focused on making our marriage and home life optimal for my spouse and kids to prevent the cycle of problems. I reached a breaking point when I realized that prioritizing my well-being wasn't selfish—it was essential. That's when I turned to simple planning solutions to create space for self-care. Christina's podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/neurodiverse-family-life-reclaiming-self-care-for-moms/id1788688761 Kickstarter Page: Kickstarer approved my prelaunch page, here is the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cmpaperie/1010152524?ref=7xcfhs FYI, I renamed my podcast to Neurodiverse Family Life.

This month's self-care capsule comes out of a real, lived week — five days of wildfire smoke from the Northern Ontario fires reaching southwestern Ontario, and a crash course in AQI and climate anxiety Erin didn't see coming. She shares a hope-forward book pack, a three-part mental reframe for climate anxiety, and a playful "treehouse mindset" for reducing consumption without falling into restriction or scarcity thinking. What's covered: Living through the wildfire smoke from the Northern Ontario fires (including the community of Collins) and what it revealed about her own, previously unrecognized, climate anxiety Why climate fiction wasn't the right read for this particular week, and choosing hope-forward books instead The August book pack: Becky Chambers' Monk & Robot series, Ursula K. So this week, Caitlin and Lexie sit down for a relaxed conversation to share more about who they are, what they do at DCO, and the experiences that have shaped their work. In honour of International Self-Care Day (July 24), they also explore what self-care really means. Inspired by a Psychology Today article, they discuss the difference between "true" and "false" self-care, challenge common myths, reflect on the five pillars of self-care, play a fun "True, False, or It Depends?" game, and share their own experiences navigating self-care in everyday life. Your intelligent brain is simply scanning the near future to protect you from upcoming workplace stressors, unanswered emails, and the week's demands. However, your nervous system cannot tell the difference between a real threat and an imagined one. Using the highly effective 4-2-6 breathing technique (inhale for 4, pause for 2, and a long, slow exhale for 6), you will learn how to deactivate flight-or-fight mode instantly. Many business owners carry a real fear: If I stop pushing, will everything fall apart?   And sometimes, that fear has a practical truth inside it. If you suddenly cut your working hours in half without changing your systems, support, offers, or expectations, your business may feel the impact. Self-investment is not a magic wand you wave over an overextended business and expect everything to hold.   But that is not the whole story.   In this episode, Erin explores the more nuanced question: when does self-care truly support your business, and when does it become a sophisticated way of hiding from the Lanterns you are here to light?   You will learn how to tell the difference between self-investment that fuels your Vision and self-care that quietly keeps you stuck.   You'll hear: Why self-care can hurt your business when it replaces the real work of building systems, support, and capacity How personal development can become a subtle hiding place when you tell yourself you need to be more healed, more ready, or more evolved before you take action The difference between nourishing your inner flame and avoiding the next brave business decision Why the goal is not more self-care for its own sake, but a life and business where your energy, creativity, presence, and Vision are actually available If you want support creating a business that gives you more space without losing momentum, you can learn more about working with Erin at besuperabound.com/consultation.

Coach Caroline and Coach Valerie talk about what happens when runners have too many opinions in their ear: a shoe store telling them one thing, a physical therapist telling them another, a coach saying something else, and social media adding even more noise. Valerie explains why her coaching starts with one core idea: running is a movement pattern, and if the pattern is not working, no shoe, brace, or trendy fix will magically solve it. The episode focuses on how runners often arrive already injured and already overwhelmed, which is exactly why they need a simple, consistent, movement-based approach. The conversation also covers why runners need an open mind when they begin the immersion process, why “the shoe is just a vehicle,” and why structural imbalances do not mean you are broken. Valerie shares how she approaches runners the same way she approaches squat and deadlift coaching in the gym: show the movement, correct the movement, and then repeat it until the body learns. The episode closes with practical advice about checking in, uploading video, joining Zooms, and letting the coach see the whole body so she can identify what is actually causing pain and help runners move toward pain-free running.▶️ Free 30-Day RunRX Reboot — Skill, Strength & Self-Care https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0N-GZ0AosI&list=PLDPcF8ZrDdILC8bYyn2zR-4xvqKRzp2re▶️ Join the RunRX Membership https://runrx.fit/join-runrxstrongWebsite: https://runrx.fit App: RunRx Academy — search “RunRx Academy” on Apple App Store or Google Play Support email: support@runrx.fit

(3:45) He spent time with his best friend since childhood, and they ended up chatting about Jim's health. Jim is ready to make some changes. The obesity rate has been coming down from its all-time high. (19:00) These metrics were taken between 2024 and 2025. However, childhood obesity is 20%, but in the 1970s, it was 3 or 4%. But what is considered obese has been redefined. (24:00) Lowering the bar doesn't make things better. Also, the numbers were gathered by Gallup (people self-reporting), not from doctors. The introduction of GLP-1s is credited for these numbers, but that may not be accurate. (30:00) However, they still don't seem to be a long-term solution because people abuse GLP-1s. Sleep has more impact on weight gain than you may think. (40:30) Less sleep can cause more cravings, among other things. Holy crap, we spent money on this study? (48:00) Result: Smoking weed is bad for your health. Daily smoking of weed holds the same risk of lung cancer as daily smoking of cigarettes. It's not the substance; it's the inhaling of smoke. Dr. Carl Truesdale joins Naked Beauty to talk about how he became the go-to plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. During our conversation Dr. Truesdale shared how his scientist and artist parents influenced his early interests, and ultimately his career. As a child he was a science nerd who attended science camp, and a gifted portrait artist. He was always interested in finding the beauty in people's faces, an interest that would never leave him. While in medical school, Dr. Truesdale was faced with more limited perspectives on beauty and technique that prioritized Eurocentric features. Dr. Truesdale shared with us that he made it his mission to challenge these dated perspectives and provide his clients of color with high quality service that does not fundamentally change what they look like, and ultimately, who they are.Dr. Truesdale is best known for his natural-looking procedures, especially deep plane face lifts, but our conversation covers many procedures. We get the scoop on facelifts filler, buccal fat removal, fat transfers, rhinoplasty, lip lifts and more. Dr. Truesdale generously explains how many of these procedures work, and what he takes into account before agreeing to perform them on his patients. We also talk about his interest in social media, and why dispelling disinformation online about medicine and science is so important to him. We also discuss the treatments he dislikes, when he'll reject patient requests, and the signs that tell him a patient should be recommended to therapeutic services pre-treatment. I was walking on a beach when God said something I wasn't ready to hear. Not comfort. Not ease. Peace. "If you don't bring me peace, you don't get a place at my table." I thought I understood what that meant. I didn't. I thought protecting my peace meant cutting out anyone who challenged me. But challenge is not the enemy of peace — emotional hijacking is. Some people don't challenge you. They hijack you. You leave every interaction drained, defensive, replaying the conversation in the shower at 2am. That's not growth — it's an open loop quietly stealing your energy, and it won't close itself. If you're tired of draining relationships that never change, this episode gives you a way to discern who belongs at your table — and the courage to stop setting a place for those who don't. In this episode: • The difference between a holy challenge and emotional hijacking • The "aftermath test" — one question that reveals who stays at your table • 4 practical steps to protect your peace — no drama, no guilt • Why protecting your peace is stewardship, not selfishness This is the heart of Stop Stealing From Yourself — starting with the relationships you keep saying yes to.

Heart disease is still the number one killer in the United States. (6:30) Dr. Ovadia's first book is a best seller you can find in Vinnie's book club: Stay Off My Operating Tablehttps://amzn.to/3SelRrs Even athletes in what appears to be extraordinary good health can still suffer from heart disease and cardiac arrest. (14:00) Heavy carb cycling or loading could be contributing to it. (16:00) How important is monitoring LDL only? (25:00) Small, dense LDL particles are important to monitor. Statins lower the large-particle LDL, which is the healthy form, but not the small-particle LDL. Insulin resistance and chronic inflammation are drivers of "bad" LDL. Dr. Ovadia explains how Repatha works. (30:00) He also explains some complications during its trials. A challenge of the Western medical system is that specialties have become too compartmentalized. (35:30) Pre-Order Dr. Ovadia's second book. Pre-orders are important to the algorithm. (Stay Off My Kitchen Table) He shares a story about his friend and ghost writer, Joshua. (41:00) Pre-order Dr. Ovadia's book using this link: https://ifixhearts.com/books/ Dr. Ovadia explains the importance of knowing what food goes into your body and what it does (or doesn't) for you. The vegan diet is propaganda. Dr. Ovadia explains. (54:00) Technology and testing methods have improved, and imaging is now clearer. Also, you may not be limited to dealing only with a local doctor; telehealth may now be available to you. You can also find Dr. Ovadia on socials and at iFixHearts.com. (3:00) Is alkaline water helpful, or is it a scam? (16:30) The likelihood that it actually does anything is slim to none. Trying to add extra hydrogen molecules doesn't seem likely to do anything. In addition, sometimes solvents are added to water to make it more alkaline. They discuss other health claims that have been inflated. An element that will make a difference in your health is good-quality magnesium. (26:00) Vinnie shares how magnesium has helped his father over the years. Hidden ingredients are often in vitamins through the use of "proprietary blends." (56:00) Just like "natural flavors" in foods, ingredients can still hide chemicals and bypass the need to be listed separately. Anna's products are now linked to PureVitamin Club's website.
