(4:00) Gary was at one time silenced for speaking out against standardized treatment for people with diabetes by giving nutritional advice. She gives a backstory of everything she and Gary were challenged with, including battling the cereal industry. Belinda has done a deep dive on the concepts of The Blue Zones and longevity. (20:00) There were more factors than just certain foods. There have been misconceptions about how much meat was being eaten. Okinawa had a specific series of historical events that affected their diets and lifestyles; namely, war. (33:00) Religious beliefs also affect outcomes because of practices like fasting. (39:00) Belinda gives the history behind Loma Linda and Ellen G. White. Loma Linda is home to a food factory for processed foods. Since the McGovern committee, the American people have become increasingly unhealthy. (1:05:00) Crete is also an example of how history affected their lifestyle and diet. (1:07:00) When investigating dietary guidelines, it's important to look at history, religion, and culture. You can have a genuinely excellent self-care practice, the meditation, the training, the tracked sleep, the nutrition, and still be using every bit of it to avoid the one question that actually needed asking. In this episode, I turn the mic on myself. After 14 years and thousands of conversations about what it takes to live well, I trace the year my own "robust" wellness practice, meditation, training, nutrition, connection, everything, ended in a stress-induced medical diagnosis at the exact moment I'd have called myself the most dialed-in version of my life. Turns out, you cannot self-care your way out of a fundamental misalignment in a core area of your life. So, today, we're exploring:The real distinction between self-care that restores you and self-care that just makes a misaligned life more bearable, or worse, hides what actually needs your true attention.Three 90-second tests, duration, imagination, intensity, that tell you honestly which one you're runningThe five places structural misalignment hides in midlife, including the "cumulative weight" version almost nobody namesWhy subtraction, not another practice, is usually the actual fixA six-move menu for making one concrete structural change in the next 30 daysIf your practice has been working harder for smaller returns lately, this conversation will tell you whether that's a regulation problem or a fit problem, and what to do about either one.Episode TranscriptIf you LOVED this episode, you can find the 1-page worksheet HERE.Mentioned in this episode: How to Finally Have the Talk You've Been Avoiding.Next week, next week we're sitting down with Dr. Rebecca Robbins to talk about why the sleep advice most of us are following was built for a body and a schedule most of us don't actually have anymore. What if your greatest need isn't more self-care, but more Christ? Dr. Greg Gifford examines key biblical passages that redefine how Christians should think about guarding the heart, resisting sin, and caring for the body God has entrusted to them. You'll leave with a clearer, more biblical framework for navigating today's booming self-care culture. Transformed Podcast Episode 188 | August 13, 2026 ___ Thanks for listening! What if self-care never quite fixed things because it was never designed to? There's a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from trying to create peace inside a relationship that keeps taking it away from you. You buy the lavender spray. You take the baths. You book the massages. You go to therapy. Some of it helps for an hour, an evening, maybe even a weekend. Then he walks through the door, and your body tenses right back up. In this solo episode, I talk about why self-care may have helped you survive your marriage without ever making it feel safe. Self-care can ease stress, but it cannot cure coercive control, make emotional abuse less abusive, or turn chronic criticism into intimacy. A massage might release the tension in your shoulders. It cannot make a deceptive or volatile partner trustworthy. The larger system remains fully intact while you play Whac-A-Mole with the symptoms, trying to create a sense of peace that the relationship keeps disrupting. I also talk about what happens in your body when you get real distance from that system, whether it's a work trip, a weekend away, or moving out for good. Sometimes the most revealing part is the profound peace that shows up when you are no longer being asked to monitor another adult all day long. What you'll hear about in this episode: Why self-care so often helps you survive a harmful marriage without ever making it safe The joy and calmness of finding profound peace Why some self-care genuinely helps you find the strength to climb out, even as it can quietly extend your tolerance for the intolerable The difference between coping better with a harmful dynamic and that dynamic actually improving How grief and calm can coexist after separation The deeper questions worth sitting with, like what becomes possible once you're no longer immersed in toxicity every single day Resources & Links: Phoenix Rising: A Divorce Empowerment Collective Focused Strategy Sessions with Kate The Divorce Strategy Toolkit Kate Anthony's Complete Parenting Plan The D Word: Making the Ultimate Decision About Your Marriage Seven Step Mindset Reset for Divorce Kate on Instagram Kate on Facebook Kate's Substack Newsletter: Divorce Coaching Dispatch Episodes are also available YouTube! =================== DISCLAIMER: THE COMMENTARY AND OPINIONS AVAILABLE ON THIS PODCAST ARE FOR INFORMATIONAL AND ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY AND NOT FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING LEGAL OR PSYCHOLOGICAL ADVICE. (6:00) It was also the first time in a long time that Vinnie went water skiing. Once he recovered from an injury, he was inspired to return to the activities he hadn't done for years. (16:00) He shares a skiing story that is a reminder to keep getting up after failing. (20:00) Vinnie gives an update on getting creatine into Pure Vitamin Club's product line. (34:00) Benefits of CCTA Scans Vinnie is interested in learning more about reversal of plaque in the arteries. (37:00) For many years, medicine has stated that once plaque build-up happened, it could not be reversed. Chris summarizes an article from Cardiovascular Business Journal. (40:00) CCTA scans appear to show progression of disease in stages now, which was unavailable before. However, using the test should be limited since it uses contrast radiation. A CAC score tells you if you have plaque or not. The CCTA (Cardiac Computed Tomography Angiography) examines how much plaque, where it's located, and its progression. (50:00) Doctors and Big Pharma have been pushing Repatha. (52:00) It came out in 2016 and did basically nothing. And then, it's jumped 37% year over year. The company made $953 million in sales in the second quarter this year of Repatha alone. Many people are on multiple drugs. Many times some of the drugs are addressing symptoms caused by other drugs they are taking. (56:00) Never be passive about your health when consulting with your medical professional. So much pain has been inflicted in the name of God. We have been deeply hurt, we get triggered and, understandably, we want nothing to do with any of it - even Jesus. But, let's be clear, what has been used to hurt us has been absolute lies, false teachings and is not about God or Jesus! One of the worst things that ever happened to Jesus was the religion of Christianity, and non-affirming Christians have largely gotten him totally wrong. Jesus is still one of the best-kept secrets because his truth has been grossly distorted by people who claim to speak for him. There is a religion-free Jesus who belongs to all of us!Send us a private message. *Note: INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS if you'd like us to answer. :-) Support the show
Most of us were taught that self-care is something you schedule: a bath, a massage, a glass of wine. But if you're doing all the "right" things and still feel anxious, depleted, and behind, self-care isn't the problem. It's not deep enough. In this episode, Suzi Lula walks through why self-care can become just one more thing to feel guilty about, and introduces Soul Care: a nervous-system-level identity shift built around four pillars: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Send us Fan MailMost women who feel like they are dropping the ball assume they have a time management problem. Suzie Cabray says the problem usually sits one level lower than that.In this episode, we get into what executive function actually is, because the term gets used constantly and almost nobody defines it. Suzie breaks it down as the self-management skills that let you start things, organize your thoughts, regulate your emotions, and finish what you began. Then she makes the case that all of it rests on a foundation of sleep, food, movement, and real downtime. Fix the base and the thinking improves on its own.We also talk about why so many women are getting diagnosed with ADHD in their thirties, forties, and fifties, what the early warning signs look like when self-care starts slipping, and a simple way to name your priority areas so nothing gets ignored until it becomes an emergency.About Suzie. Suzie Cabray works virtually with busy and disorganized adults to improve the communication and thinking skills that affect their productivity and goal completion. Her clients are professionals, parents, and college students who want to get better at communication, time management, mental organization, and follow-through. She uses a brain-based approach and walks her clients through proven steps to take action and get things done.Connect with Suzie. https://suzycarbrey.com/If this is your first time listening, subscribe so you catch the rest of the self-care conversations. Panic Attack Relief — Mindful Breathing to Calm a Racing Chest | 10-Minute Guided Meditation with the Physiological Sigh Panic attack relief starts with one breath — and this ten-minute guided meditation gives you the fastest one there is. If your breathing has gone high and shallow, if you are trying to take a deep breath and it keeps stopping halfway, this session is built for exactly that moment. Hosted by clinical hypnotherapist and former paramedic Martin Hewlett, today's practice is about mindful breathing and one named technique: the physiological sigh. Two breaths in through the nose, a short sip of air stacked on top, then one long, slow release. It is the quickest way we know of to bring a heart rate down in real time, and it is the breath Martin coached people through on the front line. From there you are guided into stillness beside water at dusk — the setting sun, the ripples and reflections on the lake — while five gentle affirmations settle the nervous system and remind you that a panic attack cannot outlast a long, slow breath out. Whether you are riding out a wave of anxiety right now, managing daily stress, or looking for a breathwork practice you can return to every morning, this is anxiety relief you can carry with you and use anywhere. You are not broken. You are not in danger. Your breathing has simply got ahead of you — and it can be brought back. ⏱️ Time Chapters * 00:00 – Your breathing has got ahead of you* 01:06 – Welcome to Calming Anxiety* 01:25 – Anchored arrives on iOS this Thursday* 01:45 – Instant Calm: your always-on panic attack session* 02:18 – Settling in* 02:32 – The physiological sigh explained* 02:50 – Guided breathing, three rounds* 04:54 – Letting the words land* 05:23 – Today's affirmations* 06:22 – Stillness by the lake at dusk* 06:51 – Affirmations, second pass* 08:08 – Your three daily caring tips* 08:58 – Coming back into the room* 09:37 – Anchored, sharing, and the sign-off

What would happen to your business if you suddenly couldn't work for 30 days? For a lot of dog daycare and boarding owners, that's an uncomfortable question. We get so used to being the person who solves the problems, makes the decisions, and keeps everything moving that it's easy to build a business that depends way too much on us. But sometimes life doesn't give you a choice about stepping away.In this episode, Fern shares three big lessons that came into focus after being forced to stop working—and why taking care of yourself, investing in the right relationships, and building a business that can operate without you are more connected than you might think. If you're constantly sacrificing your health, time, relationships, or freedom to keep your business running, this episode will challenge you to look at what you've actually built—and whether it's giving you the life you wanted in the first place.
Technology may be changing the way dairies operate, but it still takes people to make it work. What if constantly trying to become your "best self" is actually making it harder to love the person you are right now? We're big believers in growth, healing, learning, therapy, and becoming more of who you want to be. But in this episode, we're asking a harder question: When does self-improvement stop supporting you and start becoming self-rejection?We talk about the endless hamster wheel of healing, self-help books, wellness advice, comparison, courses, experts, fitness goals, and the sneaky belief that happiness is waiting somewhere in the future."When I lose the weight...""When I heal this...""When my business reaches this level...""When I finally fix this part of myself..."But what happens to the version of you who's here right now?In this episode, we're talking about finding the middle ground between staying stuck and constantly treating yourself like a project that needs fixing. We unpack self-trust, personal mission statements, comparison, anxiety, listening to your own needs, and learning how to pursue growth without abandoning yourself in the process. We talk about:• Self-improvement vs. self-rejection• Why there's no finish line for healing• The "I'll be happy when..." trap• How comparison fuels self-abandonment• Knowing your WHY before chasing another goal• Why every expert doesn't have your answer• Trusting yourself again• Finding the healthy middle ground between growth and acceptance• Loving who you are while still wanting more for yourself
Send us Fan MailWe live in a world obsessed with rest, and yet many of us have no idea how to actually rest. Or maybe we don't? Because busyness is also deemed a virtue in some ways? Anyway....We take holidays, scroll social media and tell ourselves we will slow down once the work is finished. But even when our bodies stop, our minds and souls often remain restless.Aimee Joseph, author of Made to Rest: True Peace in a World That Never Stops, joins me to explore the spiritual roots beneath our exhaustion. We discuss how our desire for control, pleasure and our own righteousness can leave us unable to rest, and why repentance is an unexpected but essential doorway to peace. We also unpack what the Bible says about Sabbath, whether the command still applies to Christians, and how to practise it without falling into legalism. Aimee shares practical ways individuals and families can build rhythms of ceasing, resting, embracing and feasting—even when life is busy, and the perfect Sabbath is impossible.Ultimately, rest is not found in a holiday, a productivity system or a self-care routine. Host Dr. Adam Dorsay introduces SuperPsyched and discusses grief as a personal, normal response to loss, then interviews Dr. Adam Kimowitz, a New Jersey dentist whose younger brother David was murdered in 2019. Kimowitz describes their close, laughter-filled bond, David's work in comedy and real estate, and the traumatic aftermath of the murder, including shock, hypervigilance, and struggling with basic tasks. He explains what helped: not being alone, relying on therapy and safe people, focusing on “micro wins,” learning from grief and resilience thinkers, and using humor appropriately to break tension. He shares guidance on supporting the bereaved—saying “I have no words, but I'm here,” offering presence and hugs, avoiding comparisons, and inviting stories about the person. He also covers parenting through grief with honesty, communication, professional help, and modeling that it's okay not to be okay, plus how his marriage provided mutual support. Kimowitz keeps David's memory alive through journaling, music, traditions with David's daughters, and living by a “Dave test,” and emphasizes empathy, self-grace, and asking for help to reconnect.00:00 Welcome to SuperPsyched00:29 Grief Is Personal00:50 Meet Adam and David03:57 From Corporate to Dentistry05:55 The Night Everything Changed08:05 Goldfish and Micro Wins10:54 Learning Through Trauma13:03 What Helped in Shock15:20 David and the Power of Laughter18:59 Humor as Support24:58 What to Say to Grievers28:50 Humor Inside Grief30:00 Why Death Feels Taboo31:52 Talking to Kids About Loss36:24 Self Care for High Achievers41:41 Marriage as an Anchor47:53 Keeping Dave Alive51:30 Resilience and Asking Help52:46 Empathy Over Judgment55:25 Music Montage FarewellHelpful Links:Dr. Adam Kimowitz

when Zoltán, his dear friend and cheerful tour guide, noticed that Bálint often slowed down and stared blankly at the coffee shop's narrow tables, he insisted that he do something.Hu: — Menj el ignore his own needs.Hu: Eszter bólintott, széles mosollyal: — Néha az egészségünkhöz tükröt kell tartanunk, hogy megértsük, mi fontos igazán.En: Eszter nodded with a broad smile: "Sometimes we need Podcast Episode Description "You are the leadership lid of your company. If you don't grow yourself, you will top out the growth of the company." Host Laurie Barkman sits down with Patrick Thean, co-founder of Rhythm Systems and author of the Wall Street Journal bestseller Rhythm and The Journey to CEO Success. Patrick started his career at Oracle, founded Medicis — a supply chain software company — in 1991, grew it to $25 million in sales in seven years while making the Inc. 500 at #51, and sold it at 32 feeling not victorious, but lost. He then survived the dot-com bust, sold his stake in a second company he no longer felt passionate about, and eventually discovered his true calling: helping CEOs avoid being blindsided by the things that destroy companies not because of bad strategy — but because of poor execution. Patrick shares the lessons that only come from living through it: cash flow, burnout, identity crisis, accountability, self-awareness, and what it really takes to build a business that can thrive without you. Key Insights Cash is oxygen — and revenue without collection is just a number. Patrick never missed payroll across all the companies he ran. The reason: he learned early that profit on paper means nothing if you haven't collected. Sales go up, profitability goes up, but if cash doesn't follow, the business dies. Cash is king — not revenue. A burnt-out founder CEO is not good for anyone. Patrick burned the candle at both ends and in the middle — and thought it was a badge of honor. It wasn't. He initially believed taking care of himself was selfish. The reframe: you are the leadership lid of your company. If you don't grow yourself, you cap the company's growth. Putting your oxygen mask on first isn't selfish — it's strategy. Most companies don't fail because of bad strategy. They fail because of poor execution. Strategy is fun — you can sit in a room and come up with ideas all day. The hard work hasn't started yet. Patrick's niece wanted to be an Olympian at 12. She made it — after a decade of consistent daily commitment. The gap between decision and getting it done is commitment. And most organizations can't close that gap. Accountability is about helping someone succeed — not punishing them for failing. Most leaders define accountability as consequences after the fact. Patrick reframes it: accountability starts at the beginning, helping the person understand what they need to do to succeed. If you're whacking someone on the head, it's already too late. Both parties must share the same philosophy — otherwise one sees coaching, the other sees micromanagement. The fish rots from the head — and that means you. When Patrick works with a struggling CEO, the first question he asks is: what part in this movie did you play? Not to assign blame — but to open the possibility that the leader is part of the problem. The leaders who grow the fastest are the ones willing to look in the mirror before they look at their team. Build a business that can run without you — before someone forces you to. Patrick's friend sold his company with one specific request: he didn't want to stay after the transaction closed. He got his wish — because he had trained a strong president who could run everything. The buyer didn't need him from day one. That's the goal. Build the machine, then make yourself optional. Can't Sleep? Stop Counting the Hours — Guided Meditation for Sleep Anxiety & Clock Watching | Coherence Breathing Can't sleep because you keep doing the maths? If I fall asleep right now, that's five hours… four and a half by the time I actually drop off… and then you look again and it's less. This guided meditation for sleep anxiety is for that exact moment — bone tired and wide awake at the same time, body heavy, mind bright, with the low hum of tomorrow underneath it all. Every time you calculate the hours left, you ask your nervous system to stay ready. It doesn't know the difference between a deadline and a danger. So tonight we're not going to try to fall asleep — trying is effort, and effort is the opposite of sleep. We're simply going to stop counting. Hosted by clinical hypnotherapist and former paramedic Martin Hewlett, this 10-minute session uses coherence breathing — five in, five out — to slow the heart rate, settle the nervous system and let the mattress take your weight. Gentle affirmations for insomnia and racing thoughts follow, then three practical caring tips for tonight and tomorrow. Turn the clock away from you, let the phone go dark, and let's begin. ⏱️ Time Chapters * 00:00 – The hour when you lie there calculating* 01:14 – Welcome, and tonight's intention: stop counting* 01:33 – Settling in — phone dark, clock turned away* 01:48 – Coherence breathing: five in, five out* 04:30 – Letting the count go, drifting deeper* 05:43 – Tonight's gentle affirmations* 07:01 – Setting down the weight of the day* 08:07 – Three daily caring tips* 08:50 – Closing words and drifting off
In this bonus meditation, we slow down and let go of what you've been carrying without even realizing it. Shower of Light is a guided journey designed to release old weight, tension you've been holding in your body, thoughts you keep replaying, feelings you've tucked away because there wasn't time to deal with them. Find a quiet place, get comfortable, and let this be the moment you set something down. You don't have to carry it into tomorrow. If you are a founder or business owner who has built something significant and you are exhausted, overwhelmed, and privately carrying something that nobody in your current world is positioned to address honestly — I want to hear from you. Not to sell you something. To have a real conversation about whether what I do is exactly what you need right now.The Unfiltered Room Private Audio Feed is where this conversation continues.Apply at mariafontana.comOr email me directly. maria@mariafontana.com I read and respond to everything personally because that is the only way I know how to do this work.MF

Continuing to build upon the two shows from April about boundaries, our boundaries are very important as Autistic Adults decide whothey will or will not trust. Autistics must respect their boundaries and practice saying “no,” and being aware of red flags, particularly online. (2:00) Even legal steps taken in other countries don't necessarily have the systems in place to enforce regulations. However, Dr. Strohman has a patent application in for an app to help with enforcing habits and protections. (9:00) There are very noticeable differences in younger generations whose exposure to screentime and social media has been high. (12:00) Social etiquette and communication have been affected. The lack of certain brain usage can have an actual physical negative effect on the brain. (20:00) The brain is similar to a muscle in the way that it needs to be worked in a certain way to stay strong and healthy. Algorithms are designed to create compulsive use. (27:00) Also, oxytocin is affected negatively as well; as a result, there is a kind of numbing effect. Both child safety and content moderation should be considered. (29:00) As a result, there are many questions you should be thinking about to protect yourself and your children. Different types of psychological manipulation have been observed in thousands of "rooms." It appears that Big Tech companies try to influence members of Congress to change rules to protect Big Tech. I'm So Tired of Starting Over — Guided Meditation for Setbacks, Self-Doubt & Beginning Again | Coherence Breathing If you are so tired of starting over, this 10-minute guided meditation is for you. Setbacks, false starts and the quiet exhaustion of beginning again can leave you convinced you are going backwards and somehow behind. This session is not going to ask you to be positive about that. It is going to show you something you have stopped being able to see. Hosted by clinical hypnotherapist and former paramedic Martin Hewlett, today's anxiety relief session uses coherence breathing, also known as resonant breathing, at six counts in and six counts out. At roughly five breaths a minute your heart rhythm and your breathing fall into step and synchronise, calming the nervous system and building resilience rather than simply distracting you. From there, gentle affirmations for self-doubt, self-worth and starting again settle you into a beautiful, trance-like state of deep relaxation. This episode also carries a personal announcement. Six years after these meditations began with a microphone and not much of a clue, the Calming Anxiety app — Anchored — launches on Thursday the 13th of August. Slow, interrupted, unglamorous progress is still progress — and that is as true for you as it has been for me. ⏱️ Time Chapters * 00:00 – "I'm so tired of starting over" — you are not lazy, not weak, not behind* 00:49 – Welcome, and why setbacks are not the end of the story* 01:22 – A personal announcement: six years, a van, a microphone, and Anchored* 02:31 – Settling: feet flat, shoulders down, eyes closed* 02:41 – Coherence breathing explained — six in, six out, five breaths a minute* 03:22 – Three guided rounds of coherence breathing* 04:54 – Affirmations for setbacks, resilience and beginning again* 06:41 – Deepening — drifting down with every out-breath* 07:22 – Second pass of affirmations* 08:51 – Your three daily caring tips* 09:35 – Coming back to the room* 10:07 – Anchored launches Thursday 13th August — put it in your diary* 11:01 – In everything, my friend, be kind

Faith Food Fellowship | Self-care Strategies for Busy Christian Women
You are the woman everyone counts on. The one who remembers the details, fills the gaps, serves the family, and shows up when others need you.But who is caring for you? Many Christian women have learned to give generously without learning how to steward themselves well. Over time, that can leave you exhausted, overwhelmed, and wondering why something feels off even though you're doing "all the right things."In this episode, you'll discover why biblical self-care isn't about putting yourself first; it's about faithfully stewarding the whole person God created you to be. Together we'll look at the example Jesus set and explore what it means to care for your spirit, soul, body, and calling in a way that honors God.The next stepTake The Biblical Self-Care Quiz to discover which area of biblical self-care God may be inviting you to tend next.Scriptures Referenced in this EpisodeLuke 10Mark 1:35Mark 4:38John 11:35Luke 22:44John 2:1-12Luke 2:49Let's Connect:Email: hello@p31virtues.com

If you've ever believed self-care is something you earn after you've taken care of everyone else, this episode is for you. Today I'm sharing why the most important form of self-care isn't expensive, luxurious, or even exciting. It's the daily discipline of making choices that support your future health. We'll explore the difference between indulgence and true self-care, why instant gratification often pulls us away from what we really need, and how planning meals, getting enough sleep, honoring your body's signals, and setting healthy boundaries become powerful acts of self-love. When you stop depending on motivation and begin practicing consistent self-discipline, everything starts to change. Your relationship with food becomes calmer. Your decisions become easier. And your body begins to reflect the care you've been giving it all along.
