Lucas has spent his career building champions in the pool, but his latest chapter is about something bigger: access. He recently expanded his program into Watsonville, California, a largely Hispanic/Latino community where swimming participation and water safety skills have historically been limited. To truly understand the cultural and structural barriers, Lucas earned his Doctorate in Education and centered his dissertation on the topic: “Understanding Water: Values, Viewpoints, and Behaviors That Influence Swimming Participation in Watsonville, CA.”

There are things, as believers, that ought not be in our lives. Many times, we settle for crumbs when God has promised us bread. Jesus loosed a woman from an infirmity she had had for 18 years. In Jesus' words, what was happening to her should never have been. It is those demonic things that should have never been that God calls us to defeat. Our assignment is to take back territory that remains in the hands of the enemy so we can see the fullness of God's will in our time.

Can body positivity and weight loss medications like Ozempic and WeGovy coexist. Or are they destined to clash? This question has sparked debates across social media and medical offices everywhere. Discernment is a gift that few seem to have. It is also a stewardship. Without the Fear of the Lord, your discernment will not be clean. Being adamant or sloppy will not get you to the heart of the Lord. Discernment is truly a gift that must be treated as Holy unto the Lord. When we are seeking knowledge or insight into a situation that is hidden, our own agenda or desires apart from God will not get us to the right conclusion. We should always be testing what we are hearing and holding ourselves accountable to God if we miss it. Having a pure heart that wants what God wants sets you on the path to seeing correctly.

[8:48] Theresa asks Lisa to rephrase the concept 'using food is the means with which we learn to repair ourselves' in a way that is understandable to those not familiar with the specialized vocabulary of the OOTC community. Lisa explains that the relationship with food serves as a mechanism for learning how to "reparent" or take care of oneself. This encompasses a physical dimension, which involves taking full responsibility for one's nutrition—planning, purchasing, preparing, and eating meals. She explains that it also involves an emotional dimension, which is the ability to manage the feelings that surface when changing eating habits, such as guilt or fear. This approach requires self-compassion and the capacity to sit with discomfort, embodying a form of loving discipline for one's own well-being.[22:31] Lisa and Theresa discuss Satter's Division of Responsibility as a framework for establishing healthy eating boundaries. In this model, a parent is responsible for what, when, and where food is provided, and the child is responsible for how much and whether they eat. Lisa talks about how this concept was personally transformative for helping her understand her own lifelong issues with food.[38:52] Theresa and Lisa discuss her doctorate program. Lisa explains that the curriculum in the trauma-informed clinical program is highly validating, as it covers topics like the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study, the neurobiology of trauma, polyvagal theory, and mindfulness, which are central to her own teaching and coaching. Lisa about how the experience confirms the validity of her approach. They discuss how the program provides deeper insight into the academic language and research methodologies used in the field. Lisa shares learning the distinction between 'emotional eating' and 'external eating' (environmental triggers for eating) and becoming familiar with formal screening tools and terminology used in academic literature.
