(11:45) Sarah's question is what is the 'lazy' way to get more protein into each day. (14:00) It's better to eat protein at each of the three meals each day rather than cram it into one or two. Stay away from hemp and pea proteins. The best protein is whey protein. (20:00) There are three types of whey: standard, concentrate, and isolates. Vinnie recommends either the standard or the concentrate; isolates are bastardized because they are more highly processed. Casein protein also has a good amino acid profile. (26:00) What is the difference between bovine protein, collagen, marine collagen, etc.? (30:00) Plant-based proteins are not effective. (38:00) Colostrum is the first milk a mother provides naturally. (41:00) Please be aware of claims that say colostrum for adults has benefits. Since the term arose in 1950's, "self-care" has referred to a number of different things. If we consider self-care to be things you do to remain physically and mentally healthy, then Zazen – simple, goalless, Zen meditation – can be seen as excellent self-care. In these troubled times, such self-care can even be seen as defiant – refusing to be broken down by challenging circumstances. Other forms of meditation can also be seen as self-care, of course, but Zazen can be a little difficult to get your mind around. Framing it as self-care may help you appreciate what it's all about.

I once heard a woman say that when her son was diagnosed with cancer, she knew she had to be impeccable with her self-care so she could show up as her best self. She needed to ensure her diet, sleep, and exercise fueled her with the bandwidth she needed. The state of the world is...a lot. It's easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious, and that's why I've decided to make self-care the focus of the next few months. To help you come up with some practices that will give you the bandwidth you need. Self-care is one of the pillars of my life. I've learned that if I don't make it a habit, I tend to run myself into the ground. Almost all parents feel awkward after estrangement, as they embrace different skills and behaviors for the first time. The journey from "conscious incompetence" to "conscious competence" and beyond, can be long. Ongoing tension can be expected after estrangement, in the context of your personal history. (12:30) It's not required that you eat grass-fed or organic meats—eat what you can afford. Many times, you can find a local small farmer and buy a portion of beef or pork at a discount. What about processed meats like bacon, salami, and cold cuts? (18:00) How bacon is cured makes a difference. (19:00) Cold cuts can be acceptable on occasion, but they often have additives. Eggs are a fantastic food—completely nutrient-dense! (26:00) Good, real, whole milk cheeses, kefir, and full-fat Greek yogurt are all great choices. Don't be afraid of real heavy cream. Try to find one without any additives, if possible. Vinnie emphasizes that you can't eat *anything* with impunity, meaning you can't go rogue and overeat, even if you're eating healthy options. (20:00) Moving on to vegetables and fruits. (32:30) Leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables are your best bet. Onions and peppers are great, too. Enjoy savory fruits like avocado, tomatoes, and olives, but they also discuss citrus, berries, and eating fruit in season. (35:00) Nuts: High-fat nuts like pili and macadamia are the best; however, you can enjoy some others, but be careful—it doesn't take many to overdo them. (46:00) If you are trying to be vegan on NSNG, beans are a better source of nutrients than grains. If you are a vegetarian, eating eggs, cheese, and nuts is recommended to boost your protein intake.
