#82: Many moms expect their bodies to “bounce back” after having a baby…but months later, odds are they're still dealing with leaking, pressure, weakness, or discomfort and wondering if this is just how it's going to be forever? In this episode, I'm joined by Marcy Crouch, DPT, a board-certified women's health physical therapist and founder of The Down There Doc, to break down what postpartum core and pelvic floor recovery really looks like. We talk about what's normal, what's not, and how moms, including those thinking about future pregnancies can start healing their bodies with confidence, even if they're six months or more postpartum. Listen to this episode to learn: 1. What postpartum core and pelvic floor symptoms are common at six months after having a baby, and which ones are not something you should ignore. 2. How everyday tasks like feeding, lifting, and carrying your baby can affect your pelvic floor…and simple ways to reduce strain. 3. Why addressing pelvic floor health now can help you feel stronger, more comfortable, and better prepared for future pregnancies. They also tackle theological questions about the nature of grace, the limitations we will still have in the new creation, and why demons may not be fallen angels. They also give their predictions for 2026. Along the way, Phil has weird ideas about hair, Skye wants to be a mango, and Kaitlyn makes a big announcement. What if the key to silencing your overactive mind exists at a specific frequency? In this episode of The Skeptic Metaphysicians, hosts Will and Karen dive deep with Ryan Stanley, owner of Sacred Sound of the Soul, to uncover how sound healing moves beyond relaxation fluff into genuine neurobiological transformation.Ryan, a former corporate executive who pivoted to exploring consciousness expansion through sound, reveals the science-backed mechanisms behind why crystal bowls induce immediate calm, from vagus nerve stimulation to frequency-based entrainment. But here's what makes this conversation different: he refuses to oversell the "woo," instead grounding energy healing in practical, observable results that listeners can replicate at home.In this episode, you'll discover why stress has become our baseline operating system and how 15 minutes with a crystal bowl can reset your nervous system. You'll learn the neurobiological mechanics of how sound vibrations impact your vagus nerve and central nervous system. Ryan shares how to choose your "bowl mate"; the one that matches YOUR unique energy signature, and demystifies the myth about crystal bowls and chakras. The hosts experience a live sound healing demo and Will even leaves his body, proving online sound healing genuinely works. Send us a textHoliday Eating Without Guilt: A New Way to Navigate the HolidaysThe holidays are supposed to be joyful, but for so many women, they come with food guilt, stress, and the pressure to “be good” around food.In this episode, I'm breaking down why holiday eating feels so hard, and why the stress you feel around food isn't a personal failure it's a predictable response to restriction, pressure, and outdated nutrition rules.I walk you through what I call the holiday diet trap: the cycle of restriction, overeating, guilt, and shame that shows up every year, and explain why trying to control food more actually leads to less control. We talk about how holiday stress impacts your physiology, your appetite, and your food choices, and why mindful eating isn't about willpower, it's about creating safety, presence, and freedom around food. This episode is a call to shift from restriction to nourishment, from fear to trust, and from guilt to an abundance mindset so you can enjoy holiday food, feel good in your body, and stay connected to what actually matters. If you're tired of white-knuckling your way through holiday eating, this episode will change how you approach food —not just during the holidays, but for good. Why wait until January 1 to feel better? On 23 December 2022 I sustained a head injury that took me many many months to recover from. I spent half the following year in physical therapy supporting my eyes to work properly again. The head injury permanently changed how I engage with print and reading. It had one other, very beneficial, effect: at the hospital I was told “You need lots of rest. If you want to get truly better from this you must take it easy.”It was two days before Christmas. How in heck was I going to “take it easy” two days before Christmas? For the first time in a very long time, I did. The ease that that brought into my life made it one of the most pleasant Christmases in years.Ease. That's what we're talking about today.I share a quickie self-care practice that can help us remember that there's such a thing in the world as ease, and that maybe we can allow some of that into our experience.I also bring a question for you:What does it take for you to allow ease into your life?I would love to hear. Send us a textIn this special episode of the Self Reflection Podcast, host Lira Ndifon steps into new territory by inviting two transformative guests: Eric Yuan from the San Mateo County Behavioral Health Department and Dr. Harry Ding, a fifth-generation Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner. Together, they discuss their innovative community program that bridges the gap between Western medical administration and Eastern holistic practices. Eric shares his personal testimony of overcoming a severe thyroid condition through Dr. Harry's care, which inspired them to serve over 1,200 patients by treating not just the body, but the mind and soul with "love as the best medicine."The conversation dives deep into the metaphysics of health, explaining the concept of "Chi" (life force energy) and how stagnation in specific meridians can manifest as emotional struggles like depression, anger, or worry. Dr. Harry breaks down the art of pulse diagnosis, explaining how a practitioner can detect mental health issues simply by feeling the rhythm of the blood flow in the wrist. He details how different positions on the left and right wrist correspond to internal organs like the heart, liver, and spleen, offering a window into a patient's emotional state without them saying a word.In a vulnerable and educational segment, Lira undergoes a live consultation and pulse reading. Dr. Harry analyzes her sleep patterns, digestion, and stress levels to reveal a "weak spleen" and "blood deficiency" caused by overthinking and irregular eating habits. The episode concludes with actionable TCM advice for listeners, including the importance of sleeping before 11:00 PM (liver time), incorporating red meats for blood regeneration, and drinking rose tea to release stress stagnation.Support the showCall to Action: Engage with the Self-Reflection Podcast community! My father, Hans-Georg Graf von Rittberg, was born on March 27, 1943, on his family's estate in Pomerania during World War II. In early 1945, his mother, Karin Gräfin von Rittberg, eight months pregnant, fled with her two sons ahead of the Russian occupation. Her husband was executed in April 1945 for his involvement in the resistance against Hitler.By the fall of 1945, they were finally able to reach Western Germany, escaping Russian-controlled territory. In our conversation, my father recalls his earliest memories in Königsbach, where they lived above a horse stall. Winters were brutally cold, and to keep her sons from freezing at night, his mother would bind their hands so they would keep them tucked under the blankets. What I find most striking are the tender memories my father carries from such a devastating time — playing in the woods, building makeshift bridges, learning to navigate the world with curiosity and imagination. He speaks about growing up in post-war Germany with a mother who, despite having lost almost everything, always found ways to create a good life from what they had.As he grew older, his central ambition became rebuilding what had been lost, and one day offering his own family the life he had always dreamed of. Had my father not received a Fulbright scholarship to study in New York — where he met my mother — I would not be here today.Their life together has been one great adventure, and I feel deeply grateful and proud to be part of it.

Hey, Survivor! In this episode of The Vibrant Survivor Podcast, I'm sharing what it was like to attend two emotionally intense court hearings in one week…on the same day—a murder sentencing, and a pre-trial evidentiary hearing—and how supporting victims can be retraumatizing for survivors. During the sentencing hearing, as family members, friends, and community members read victim impact statements, my body responded before my mind could. I experienced hyperventilation, emotional flooding, and nervous system overwhelm—a powerful reminder that trauma lives in the body, not just the mind. With holidays approaching—and this season already carrying heavy anniversary trauma—I made the intentional decision to step back from court proceedings until after the new year. Not because I don't care. Not because justice doesn't matter. But because healing requires regulation, rest, and boundaries. The holidays can intensify grief, loss, and trauma responses—especially for those navigating court systems, injustice, or unresolved pain.  If you, or someone you know, need permission to pause, breathe, and choose peace this season, this episode is for you. On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Sayan sits down with Eric D. Coonrod, a boutique investment banker, to unpack the entrepreneurial mindset behind scaling a company and selling it without burning out. This episode gets real about why exits can feel like an identity shock, how deal stress quietly tanks decision quality, and why psychological readiness should be treated like a core KPI alongside valuation. Eric breaks down exit paths like full sale vs majority recap, then shares practical ways founders can protect sleep, health, and relationships while navigating diligence, negotiation, and team communication. About the Guest: Eric D. Coonrod is a 20-year investment banking veteran involved in 100+ transactions across healthcare, food and beverage, VMS, and sports. He is the founder of E. Coonrod and Company, LLC, advising founders on deals, debt, and capital raises with a full-stack approach that includes tax, communications, and personal health awareness. Key Takeaways: Selling a business can hit harder emotionally than founders expect because the company often becomes their identity. A big exit check does not automatically fix burnout. It can even amplify it if you have no plan post-deal. Prep for the exit should include psychological readiness, not just financial readiness and deal structure. Consider exit options early. A majority recap can reduce admin burden while keeping you close to the work you actually love. Neglecting self-care during a sale increases poor decisions. Deal fatigue is real and it kills outcomes. The sale process adds major weekly workload on top of running operations. Protect your health to protect judgment. Keep a non-negotiable wellness anchor. Training, walking, or family time keeps mental clarity stable under pressure. Employees fear layoffs and culture shifts. Timing and messaging matter, so disclose only when the deal is mature. Coach the transition narrative with the buyer. Clear reassurance reduces churn and stabilizes performance pre-close. Post-exit peace requires an actual plan. Define what you will do in the first 6 months and what comes after. Katja wrote this essay years and years ago, and it's still a favorite. Today she needed to hear it again – yeah, you can do that with your own writing, it's allowed, don't worry – and she decided to share it with you. It's about how so many of us think we're the only trainwreck in any given room, and how we all have That Person in our lives (or just in our minds) who seems to really Have It All Together. Why can't I just get it together like That Person?, you think, like everyone does. Like even That Person does, Themselves, sometimes. Like someone might very well be thinking about… you! We are all trainwrecks. Outward appearances aren't the whole story, and it's hard to get to know the people around us. So this experience is super common. But don't worry! There's a lot we can do about it, starting with acknowledging the reality, then asking for help, then getting outside… and also – never doubt it – with a drink of tea. Some of our favorite nervines for these feelings include tulsi, betony, and calamus – but finding your own favorite herbs for these moments is the best way to help yourself.Need to reign in your trainwreck?Check out our Neurological & Emotional Health course. This course is a user's guide to your nerves & your emotions – including the difficult and dark ones, the falling apart ones, the total disaster ones. Estranged. Cut off. Disengaged.Whatever you want to call it—it's trending! Going “no contact” has become so ubiquitous Oprah covered it in a recent podcast episode, Mel Robbins just wrote a NY Times article about it, and it's the subject of several books and thousands of TikToks. What's going on? Why are so many adult children cutting off their parents and families? Is Going No Contact a difficult, yet imperative, decision to protect oneself from a toxic family?Or, does it reflect an unwillingness to navigate the messiness of adult family relationships, because, of course, it's way easier to solely interact with likeminded friends. Is it self care or self sabotage?Elliott and I delve into the myriad elements surrounding this phenomenon, including:1️⃣The increase of family disengagement Elliott has witnessed in his clinical practice. 2️⃣The Going No Contact debate—does it facilitate or impede our emotional development and maturity?3️⃣How “self-help culture” has introduced therapeutic terms into our everyday lexicon—and the ramifications therein.4️⃣Expanding definitions of concepts such as “toxic,” “narcissist,” and “gaslighting.”5️⃣The grief inherent to estranged families. 6️⃣The role of social media in fueling this trend.7️⃣Suggestions for reunification—should children decide they'd like to. According to a study cited on Oprah's podcast, 30% of Americans have a family member who has disengaged. So, it's likely this impacts you or someone you love. In this conversation, Laura welcomes Dr. Lakila Bowden to explore the transformative practice of self-celebration and the role it plays in helping Black women reclaim agency, joy, and permission to lead from a place of fullness. Drawing from key concepts in her book, The Sho'Nuff Principle, Lakila lays out a liberatory framework for centering ourselves without guilt, raising our expectations, and giving ourselves the recognition we often withhold. Laura and Lakila unpack the guilt, shame, and cultural conditioning that often arise when Black women center themselves, and what it looks like to begin shifting that mindset with compassion. Additionally, Lakila explains why self-celebration is not "extra," but essential. She explores the emotional and psychological roots of celebration, encouraging Black women to "brag more," and teaching how celebration functions as a mirror, an amplifier, and a motivator. Whether you've avoided attention, minimized your accomplishments, or struggled with self-recognition, Lakila offers accessible starting points to begin turning up your self- celebration.   About Dr. Lakila Dr. Lakila Bowden is the charismatic voice high-achieving women didn't know they were missing. A visionary speaker, company founder, and unapologetic rest advocate, she's the COO of iSee Technologies and author of The Sho' Nuff Principle: A High Achieving Woman's Guide to Self-Care, Self-Promotion, & Self-Celebration. After a thriving executive career in Fortune 500 companies like GE and DaVita—and retiring from corporate America at just 37—Dr. Bowden's charted a bold path that's led to her becoming a trusted voice on stage for powerhouse organizations like The Walt Disney Company, Kraft Heinz, Verizon, and JP Morgan.   Lakila embraces a multi-hyphenate lifestyle which aligns with her personal ethos to operate in flow vs force in wealth creation and living life in celebratory fashion. As a proud North Carolina A&T Aggie Alum, her academic credentials, including an MBA from Emory University and an honorary doctorate in Humanitarianism, bolster her practical strategies for balancing demanding careers with personal well-being. (2:30) http://@FitnessConfidential Podcast Part of this episode is about resolutions; Vinnie's resolution to build a train set is underway, and he's confident it will be done before the end of December this year. Anna is cooking her low-carb stuffing, made with almond flour instead of dried bread. (7:30) You can find her Holiday Roundup of Recipes here. https://annavocino.com/nsng-low-carb-thanksgiving-round/ Vinnie has had back pain for years. (10:00) His back problems started after he began his career in ultra-cycling. (16:00) He used to go to a therapist for muscle release. This is not a paid endorsement, but he recommends "The Hook" by Aletha. It can reach into the tighter areas around your hip bones and release knots in muscles like the psoas and iliacus. Egg Nog recipe (30:30) It's a good idea to avoid heavy cream with additives. If you can, get straight heavy cream. Anna demonstrates the best way to make the eggnog from scratch. One of Vinnie's resolutions this year has to do with fixing his back so he can water ski again. He wants to be able to do the things he used to do when he was younger, such as skiing. He is inspired by an 80+ year old woman who is the oldest person to finish an Ironman. Anna agrees—the importance of mobility and strength as you age can't be emphasized enough. (42:00) Please find a way to include movement into your life and make it fun! Egg Nog special step—so pay attention (45:45) Placing Saran Wrap gently over the egg nog as it cooks will help prevent a "skin" from forming.
