Ces derniers jours, le président français a évoqué un déséquilibre « insupportable », estimant que le continent européen est désormais confronté à une menace directe pour son tissu industriel. Cette dynamique s'est nettement accélérée depuis le durcissement de la politique commerciale américaine. Les droits de douane massifs imposés par les États-Unis ont poussé la Chine à rediriger une partie de ses marchandises vers d'autres régions du monde. La guerre commerciale entre Pékin et Washington joue ici un rôle déterminant. Si les États-Unis ont réussi à freiner certaines importations chinoises, l'Europe apparaît comme la victime collatérale de ce bras de fer. Certains observateurs évoquent déjà l'émergence d'un nouveau « choc chinois », rappelant celui des années 2000, mais avec cette fois des secteurs à plus forte valeur ajoutée en première ligne. À cela s'ajoute un phénomène plus récent et particulièrement massif : le commerce en ligne chinois. Les plateformes comme Shein ou Temu expédient chaque jour des millions de petits colis vers l'Union européenne, souvent à très bas prix et en grande partie hors des circuits douaniers classiques. Bruxelles durcit le ton, au risque de représailles Face à cette situation, la Commission européenne a décidé de réagir. Vendredi, l'exécutif européen a annoncé son intention d'imposer une taxe de 3 euros sur les petits colis chinois à partir de juillet 2026. Une mesure d'urgence, destinée à limiter la concurrence jugée déloyale de ces produits et à protéger les commerçants européens. Mais ce n'est qu'un volet d'un changement de philosophie plus large. Après des décennies d'ouverture et de libre-échange, le protectionnisme n'est plus un tabou à Bruxelles. Trois grandes familles de mesures sont actuellement à l'étude. D'abord, la création d'un pôle de sécurité économique, chargé d'identifier les risques et d'anticiper les tensions commerciales. Ensuite, un encadrement plus strict des investissements étrangers, notamment chinois, avec des conditions sur les transferts de technologie et la production sur le sol européen afin d'éviter des investissements jugés prédateurs. Enfin, de nouveaux outils de défense commerciale, comme la taxation de produits fortement subventionnés par Pékin. Un pari risqué. En régulant davantage son marché, l'Europe s'expose à d'éventuelles représailles chinoises. Cela pourrait se traduire par une hausse des prix à l'importation, un impact sur l'inflation, mais aussi par une fragilisation des exportateurs européens si l'accès au marché chinois devenait plus difficile. Bruxelles avance donc sur une ligne de crête : se protéger face à une concurrence jugée déloyale, tout en évitant d'entrer dans une spirale de guerre commerciale incontrôlée.

Une longue interview, d'une dizaine de pages, dans laquelle celui qui vient de passer vingt jours en prison, et qui raconte ce séjour dans le Journal d'un prisonnier, est interrogé sur l'âge de la retraite, le pouvoir judiciaire, ou encore le christianisme. C'est Franz-Olivier Giesbert, l'éditorialiste du Point, qui mène l'interview avec enthousiasme et commence par cette question inattendue : « Aujourd'hui, dans votre situation, la solution la plus logique pour vous ne serait-elle pas de vous présenter à l'élection présidentielle afin de laver dans le suffrage universel l'affront de votre détention ? ». Nicolas Sarkozy répond que « techniquement, c'est impossible ». Il est en effet inéligible. Après cette interview, le Point revient d'ailleurs en détail sur « les batailles judiciaires » de l'ex-président. « Son procès en appel dans l'affaire libyenne s'ouvrira en mars », rappelle l'hebdomadaire, qui constate : « La promotion de son livre pourra le divertir, mais le répit sera de courte durée. L'hebdomadaire nous parle d'une « affaire d'État » et nous promet des « révélations sur un lobbying secret ». Car avant de faire office d'ennemi public numéro 1, en France en tout cas, « la plateforme qui reçoit un million de commandes par jour » a courtisé députés et ministres. Le Nouvel Obs s'en offusque : « Les dirigeants de l'enseigne de fast-fashion ont décroché de discrets rendez-vous à Matignon, pour faciliter leurs affaires en France. Plus dérangeant encore : des représentants bien introduits dans les cercles du pouvoir – l'ex-ministre de l'Intérieur, Christophe Castaner en tête – ont été grassement rémunérés pour défendre les intérêts du dragon de la mode instantanée ». « Que vient faire un proche du chef de l'État dans ce dossier alors que le Parlement est en train de légiférer ? », interroge le Nouvel Obs. En effet, en mars 2024, les députés sont appelés à se prononcer « sur une proposition de loi, déposée par le groupe Horizons, visant à réguler l'ultra fast-fashion ». BHV et taxe Shein Toutefois, le lobbying en faveur de Shein se heurte à la réalité. Avec tout d'abord, la désastreuse installation de la plateforme chinoise au très chic BHV à Paris, installation qui a fait fuir les marques de luxe, mais aussi les clients. Et, ce n'est pas tout : « La riposte s'organise enfin », s'exclame le Nouvel Obs : « L'État demande devant le tribunal judiciaire de Paris, la suspension du site pendant trois mois, pour avoir commercialisé des poupées à caractère sexuel d'apparence enfantine. Et, dans le cadre du chaotique débat budgétaire, les députés ont adopté une "taxe Shein" de deux euros ciblant les petits colis d'origine extra-européenne ». La partie n'est pas terminée pour autant. Shein s'active dans les coulisses à Bruxelles, « un ancien commissaire européen est à la manœuvre, l'allemand Günther Oettinger », explique le Nouvel Obs, qui reste méfiant et qui soupçonne Ursula von der Leyen de manquer de cran sur la question de la fast-fashion. La présidente de la Commission européenne serait « tétanisée à l'idée de provoquer une guerre commerciale avec la Chine ». Il surplus commerciale cinese nei primi undici mesi dell'anno ha superato per la prima volta la soglia dei mille miliardi di dollari, in aumento del 22,1 per cento rispetto al 2024. Un risultato che arriva nonostante il crollo dell'export verso gli Stati Uniti, in calo del 28,6 per cento a causa dei dazi, e nonostante gli sforzi del governo cinese di puntare sui consumi interni come nuovo motore di crescita. Le esportazioni complessive sono comunque cresciute del 5,9 per cento su base annua.Xi Jinping e Donald Trump, per motivi opposti, vorrebbero una riduzione di questo surplus, ma i dati diffusi dall'amministrazione doganale cinese mostrano un quadro molto diverso: gli USA non hanno piegato la Cina con le tariffe e Pechino non riesce a sganciarsi dal modello basato su export e import. Il a atteint 310 milliards de dollars Depuis 2019, le surplus chinois vis-à-vis de l'Europe a presque doublé. Et tout porte à croire qu'avec les droits de douane de Trump, qui ferment en grande partie la porte du marché américain aux exportations de l'empire du Milieu, ce phénomène est appelé à s'amplifier et à durer. Cela traduit l'impressionnante montée en puissance de la Chine dans un grand nombre de technologies, notamment dans les industries vertes, sur lesquelles l'Europe se retrouve désormais, dans un renversement du rapport de force, en position de demandeur. Face à la Chine, sur le plan économique et commercial, l'Europe n'est plus naïve : elle filtre les investissements ; applique des droits de douane sur les biens bénéficiant de subventions à la production, comme les voitures électriques ; travaille à desserrer l'étau de sa dépendance en ressources de base, comme les terres rares et les aimants permanents ; elle prend des mesures commerciales fortes, comme les quotas qui s'appliqueront pour l'acier et l'inox au 1er janvier prochain. Elle se convertit à l'idée, très française, de préférence européenne notamment pour les achats publics. Début décembre, le commissaire Stéphane Séjourné a porté à Bruxelles un texte pour conditionner les investissements en Europe à des transferts de technologie. Ces mesures révèlent un changement de logiciel de la Commission européenne, dans un rapport de force de plus en plus tendu avec Pékin. La prise de conscience des vulnérabilités stratégiques européennes gagne des pays pour qui le libre-échange était auparavant l'alpha et l'oméga, comme l'Allemagne, les Pays-Bas ou les Scandinaves.Pour sa quatrième visite d'État en Chine depuis 2017, du 3 au 5 décembre, Emmanuel Macron, qui était accompagné en 2023 par la présidente de la Commission européenne Ursula von der Leyen, a été bien seul face à Xi Jinping. Vendredi, les députés ont adopté son volet recettes pour 2026, par 166 voix pour et 140 contre. Paradoxalement, le gouvernement s'inquiète davantage des votes du bloc central (Renaissance, Modem, Horizons, et LR) que de ceux des oppositions. Or les députés du parti Horizons, présidé par Édouard Philippe, n'entendent pas voter pour ce texte qui « ne propose pas de réduction du déficit, repose sur de nouvelles mesures de fiscalité et ne propose pas de nouvelles mesures de réduction de dépenses », selon le patron du groupe à l'Assemblée Paul Christophe. L'affaiblissement de l'ancienne majorité présidentielle dans les sondages serait selon eux le résultat d'une « succession de mauvais choix » d'Emmanuel Macron, lequel aurait « contaminé » les prétendants issus de son camp. « Ils ne mouraient pas tous, mais tous étaient frappés », résume l'eurodéputée Nathalie Loiseau, membre d'Horizons. Die Bestimmungen würden die ukrainischen Streitkräfte von 800.000 Soldaten auf 600.000 Soldaten begrenzen, sowie einen NATO-Beitritt der Ukraine ausschließen und dem Land Sicherheitsgarantien gewähren. Solange der Krieg läuft, und von einer herbeigeredeten und völlig unbegründeten Kriegsgefahr für Europa geschwafelt wird, ist der Großteil der Bevölkerung von der durch Unfähigkeit, Dummheit sowie Macht- und Besitzgier der Politiker verursachten Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftskrise abgelenkt. Die Wirtschaft für zivile Zwecke in der EU – dafür sollte Wirtschaft ausschließlich da sein – haben unter anderem die deutsche, britische, französische Regierung sowie die „Spitzenpolitiker“ der EU an die Wand gefahren. Los socialistas tampoco están de acuerdo en tocar regulación alguna y, menos aún, la relativa a la protección de datos. As 2025 draws to a close, the European continent is facing the most pressing of problems: how to raise financial support for Ukraine, almost four years into Russia's full-blown invasion. Kyiv's financial resilience is eroding and thanks to an unpredictable Trump administration questioning the cost of collective defence, Europe is now faced with shouldering the burden. EU Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen warned this week that urgent measures are needed to fill Ukraine's €135 billion budget shortfall for the next two years. One option would be tapping €185 billion in frozen Russian assets –a move that has faced opposition from the likes of Belgium, where most of the assets are located. If no agreement is made among member states before the end of the year, it could have disastrous consequences. Von Der Leyen has stressed that what happens in Ukraine is fundamental not only to the country's survival but to Europe's future. We debate the future of financing Ukraine with our guests at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The lurch rightwards in our politics has brought a wave of disinformation and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people.As well as exacerbating prejudice, the anti-LGBTIQ+ campaigns, many supported by US evangelicals and Russian oligarchs, foment social divisions and aim to weaken liberal democracy. That's why the new era of bigotry should be seen as a strategic threat for Europe, former Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar explains in this episode. Leo is currently a Senior Fellow for the Global LGBTQI+ Human Rights Program at the Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights at the Harvard Kennedy School. He stepped down as Taoiseach last year after serving two terms and making history as Ireland's first openly gay head of government.Among Leo's current concerns: how US diplomats and corporate executives who formerly supported LGBT rights have changed position or melted away, leaving regions like Central and Eastern Europe especially vulnerable."The fact that America is withdrawing from that space has left it open to Russia," says Leo. "That's where I think the European Union needs to come in and needs in many ways I think to fill the space of the Americans."A particular focus is Hungary, the EU state that is the subject of what Rémy Bonny, executive director of Forbidden Colours, calls the largest human rights lawsuit in the bloc's history.That lawsuit concerns a so-called child-protection law that censors inclusive sex education, equates LGBTI lifestyles with pedophilia, blocks adoption for LGBTI couples, and restricts content in media and advertising.A top advisor has already issued a preliminary finding against Hungary and the Court of Justice of the EU is expected to reach a verdict next year.A definitive ruling against Hungary "can't go without a meaningful response" from EU authorities, says Leo. "The treaties are worth nothing if that's the case."When it comes to EU politics, Leo encourages a return to centrist leadership rather than reliance by his political family, the center-right European People's Party, on the possibility of majorities with the far right."I much prefer us being in alliance with Liberals and Social Democrats and Greens."Leo also critiques fellow conservative Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, for saying "too little, too late" about homophobia in Hungary — and about Israel's conduct of the war in Gaza.Even so von der Leyen does "come around to the right position eventually, which is better than the reverse."As for Donald Trump, who Leo met several times as Taoiseach, the US president is taking a far more hostile approach to LGBT rights compared to his first term. Whether Trump actually leaves office after 2027 general could come down to the US military."It's a dangerous time."Asked whether he could have done more as Taoiseach to regulate the giant US tech companies that have bases in Ireland, Leo says he oversaw stepped up enforcement during his time in office. There was however a wider failure, where tech companies still are shielded from liability for the illegal and highly polarizing content hosted on their platforms."We allowed them to really get away with this idea that they're not publishers" and "that wasn't right," says Leo, who says he supports a crackdown on algorithms that amplify hate and toxicity.Support the show
