Steven Seagal has finally made it to the pod and Rollie Williams (Climate Town) is back! ON DEADLY GROUND is not only our first Seagal movie, it's also an environmentally-charged action movie, and the only movie DIRECTED by the man himself. So the boys called up their own climate badass, Rollie Williams, to fly in and help extinguish this flaming turd.Is Seagal's character a good guy? An anti-hero? An ex-navy SEAL? A selfish capitalist? An environmentalist? A firefighter? A Native American? A terrorist? A bear? He's kinda all of them! And none of them! It's all as confusing as Michael Caine's hair. But Steve and Justin can guarantee there are enough nuts shots in this thing to change the essence of a man.Check out CLIMATE TOWN here: youtube.com/climatetownListen to THE CLIMATE DENIERS PLAYBOOK here: Spotify Apple PodcastsBUY OUR MERCH! It's the CXLIVth episode of The War on Cars, and just like in years past we're taking a look at the ads that aired during the Super Bowl. This year, there weren't a whole lot of ads specifically designed to sell cars and trucks, but there was still plenty of car-adjacent stuff to talk about—from ads highlighting the urban/suburban divide to an amazing halftime show from Kendrick Lamar featuring a Buick GNX. Rollie Williams (Climate Town) and Nicole Conlan (The Climate Denier's Playbook, The Daily Show) join us to talk about some of the commercials that aired during the big game and what they say about the state of our culture, our climate, and our politics. *** Support The War on Cars on Patreon and receive exclusive access to bonus content, ad-free versions of regular episodes, free stickers, merch discounts, early access to live shows, and more. *** Get tickets to our live show on April 24th in Minneapolis, presented by Our Streets. Why do America's trains suck? What was your worst sketch? Can I have $10? In this very special episode, Rollie and Nicole answer some hard-hitting questions from the listeners and a few special guests…Listen to the full episode on our Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/deniersplaybook) SOCIALS & MORE (https://linktr.ee/deniersplaybook)CORRECTIONSThis episode mentions lobbying efforts by Southwest Airlines to prevent the construction of high speed rail in the state of Florida. Those documented lobbying efforts, however, related to opposing the construction of high speed rail networks in Texas, rather than Florida (Wanna get away?). Florida's high speed rail hopes were instead dashed by then-governor, Rick Scott, who in 2011 rejected billions of dollars from the federal government on offer for the development of a high speed rail network. Scott and his wife, as a complete coincidence, would go on to invest some of their personal wealth in a fund with links to privatized high speed rail development in Florida. Rollie is the creator and host of Climate Town, a docu-comedy video series focused on the climate crisis. He moved to NYC to pursue comedy in 2013, and spent six years performing on every stage that would have him. Eventually, he began hosting a climate-focused talk show where he played an unhinged Al Gore on an “I-told-you-so” tour, interviewing comedians and climate scientists. Every scientist told him the same thing: we're woefully unprepared for the coming environmental crisis.Recognizing that climate change would be the defining issue of our time, he enrolled in Columbia University to get a Master's degree in Climate Science and Policy so he could actually know what he was talking about. Then in 2020, he combined his degree and comedy background to start Climate Town–a YouTube channel blending comedy and exhaustive research to get people talking about climate change.https://www.youtube.com/c/ClimateTownhttps://www.climatetownproductions.com/

Today's guest is Rollie Williams, host and creator of Climate Town. The topic of climate change can be dark upon initial exploration. While some find inspiration in innovation and action, many folks struggle to get beyond the pervasive desperation and doomerism that dominate the conversation. Climate Town takes a totally different approach and uses humor to unpack complex climate topics while offering suggestions for how audiences can take meaningful action. In the past two years, the Climate Town YouTube channel has amassed 393,000 subscribers, several millions views, a handful of awards, and has spawned an engaged Discord community of climate-focused-yet-delightfully-regular people.Rollie is a Brooklyn-based comedian and video editor, and he holds a graduate degree in Climate Science and Policy from Columbia University. He's also the former creator and host of the monthly comedy show 'An Inconvenient Talk Show' doing sketches and comedic deep dives by pairing comedians (SNL, The Daily Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, etc) together with climate scientists (NASA, MIT, Harvard). Actor Danny McBride talks about the latest season of The Righteous Gemstones, the challenge of writing comedies, and how watching his mom perform puppet shows for their church inspired his career. Singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn reflects on his hit single If A Tree Falls, his environmentalism and how he feels artists can respond to the climate crisis today. Comedians Matt Winning and Rollie Williams tell us how they're using jokes to talk to people about climate change — and whether there's actually anything to laugh about. Amazonian drag queen Uýra Sodoma talks about using performance art to teach kids how to respect the natural world and protect Brazil's rainforest.
I hope you know Climate Town. Watch a bunch of episodes if you haven't. This Sustainable Life listeners and hosts talk about the show. It's funny and fun, yet intelligent and informative. On top of the content, I watch the backgrounds, which often take place where I live in lower Manhattan and where I went to school, at Columbia, where Rollie went to.So I contacted him and his team. We spoke. Within minutes I could tell why Climate Town is so funny. He and his team are funny. Immediately, I could tell I could learn from them. Here he is. We talk about his and his shows' origins and goals. I always thought he was a scientist making humor. He's a humorist taking on science, but not just a little. Enough to go to graduate school for it. That's serious commitment to his craft. (I think he cares more about the environment than he says, but you can judge for yourself). You'll hear commonalities and differences between us. For example, how to influence others and especially population. I describe the Spodek Method with him. You'll hear his commitment and some anticipation of conflict or synthesis in our next episode.Plus, he's funny throughout. This episode isn't as funny and incisive as a typical Climate Town episode, but more of that than one of my normal episode, since Rollie brings it.Climate TownSweatpantsJames Burk's "The Greatest Shot in Television" See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Rollie Williams made the unlikely transition from young comedian to Climate Change activist. Originally from Colorado, Rollie moved to New York with the aim of becoming a successful comedian. He was beginning to make an impression and, pretty soon after arriving, he was asked to perform a show at Brooklyn Theatre. Not sure exactly what to do, Rollie decided he would experiment with a comedy routine based around Climate Change. http://ourvoicespodcast.com/ (Check out our website for the latest from Our Voices) We're also on https://www.facebook.com/ourvoicesinthenhs (Facebook), https://twitter.com/OurVoices14 (Twitter) and https://www.instagram.com/ourvoicespod/ (Instagram) A https://fascinateproductions.co.uk/ (Fascinate) Production Support this podcast
