Chapter 1 What's FactfulnessFactfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World – and Why Things Are Better Than You Think is a book written by Swedish statistician Hans Rosling, along with his son Ola Rosling and daughter-in-law Anna Rosling Rönnlund. The book explores common misconceptions people have about the world and provides a fact-based perspective on various global issues. It seeks to challenge pessimistic views and highlight positive progress by presenting reliable data and statistics. Factfulness offers readers a more accurate and realistic understanding of the world we live in.Chapter 2 Why is Factfulness Worth ReadFactfulness by Hans Rosling is worth reading because it offers a refreshing perspective on the state of the world and helps readers develop a more accurate understanding of global trends and challenges. Here are some key reasons why the book is worth reading:1. Data-driven insights: Rosling, a renowned statistician and public health expert, presents an abundance of data and evidence to debunk common misconceptions surrounding global issues. He uses clear and accessible graphs, charts, and visual aids to convey complex information effectively.2. Challenging biases: The book prompts readers to question their preconceived notions and biases about the world. Rosling argues that many people have a pessimistic view of global progress, often due to outdated information or media coverage that focuses on negative events. Factfulness challenges these biases and highlights the significant improvements happening globally.3. Optimistic outlook: Rosling emphasizes the progress humanity has made across various sectors, such as health, education, and living standards, and provides a more optimistic outlook on the future. This perspective can help counterbalance the prevailing negativity and doom-and-gloom narratives that often dominate public discourse.4. Understanding complexity: Rosling encourages readers to think critically and consider the complexity of global issues. He explains the importance of avoiding generalizations, recognizing the diversity within countries, and understanding that progress is not linear. This nuanced approach helps readers develop a more accurate understanding of the world's complexities.5. Practical advice: The book provides practical advice on how to evaluate information, validate sources, and navigate the deluge of data and news in the modern world. Rosling's toolkit for critical thinking equips readers with skills to become more factful, helping them make better-informed decisions and participate more effectively in public debates.Overall, Factfulness is worth reading because it challenges misconceptions, offers data-driven insights, promotes critical thinking, and presents a more optimistic and nuanced view of the world. It is a valuable resource for anyone seeking a more accurate understanding of global trends and a useful guide for navigating the flood of information in the digital age.Chapter 3 Factfulness SummaryFactfulness by Hans Rosling is a book that presents a new and refreshing perspective on global development and challenges commonly held beliefs about the state of the world.

BIO: Anna Rosling Rönnlund is a Swedish designer who, with her husband Ola Rosling, developed Trendalyzer, interactive software for visualizing statistical information.STORY: Anna and her husband bought a home after moving to the US. A while later, they had to move back to Sweden, so they decided to sell the house. This was during the financial crisis that hit the real estate market badly. So the couple lost a lot of money after the sale.LEARNING: Keep your costs low. You don't always have to buy a home. “Spending time doing things you love is the best investment ever.”Anna Rosling Rönnlund Guest profileAnna Rosling Rönnlund is a Swedish designer who, with her husband Ola Rosling, developed Trendalyzer, interactive software for visualizing statistical information. In 2005, with statistician and father-in-law Hans Rosling, she co-founded the Gapminder Foundation, where she serves as vice president for design and usability. In 2016, she announced Dollar Street, a website that imagines a street of homes to help visualize how people of varying cultures and incomes live around the world. In 2017, she collaborated with Hans Rosling on his book, Factfulness.Worst investment everAnna and her husband moved to the US, where they were both working at Google. They decided to look for a place to stay close to the office. The couple had sold their apartment in Sweden, so they had some cash to purchase a house. They bought their home just before the real estate market crashed and then moved back to Sweden after it crashed. They decided to sell the house and lost quite a lot of money. The home was just a few miles from where Facebook was building its new headquarters. Had the couple held onto the house for just a year or two after moving back to Sweden, they'd have gained quite a lot of money.Lessons learnedWhen investing, start from your dream or passion and then gradually diversify to other things.Keep your costs low, but still enjoy life, and make sure you do things you like—it doesn't have to cost a lot.Andrew's takeawaysOne way to protect yourself is to keep your costs really low.You don't have to buy a house, especially when you're moving to a new city.Property can fall, and you lose for a while, but in the long run, it eventually comes back.Actionable adviceIf you're not going to stay in a home for a very long time, don't buy it—rent instead.Anna's recommended resourceAnna recommends reading Factfulness because it's all about how to make sense of the world. It gives you a general overview of the biggest trends and proportions to make better decisions in life and work.No.1 goal for the next 12 monthsAnna's number one goal for the next 12 months is to add the questions received from the general public and interactive video-led courses, the Worldview Upgrader. This is a tool she developed for people to check their knowledge and upgrade their worldview.Parting words “Good luck with your investments, and make decisions based on...

Good morning Motivated Ninjas! Thank you for tuning in to the Motivated Entrepreneurs podcast. Today we have a book review and it's called "Factfulness" by Hans Rosling, Anna Rosling Rönnlund, Ola Rosling. In Factfulness, Professor of International Health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two long-time collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens. They reveal the ten instincts that distort our perspective―from our tendency to divide the world into two camps (usually some version of us and them) to the way we consume media (where fear rules) to how we perceive progress (believing that most things are getting worse).
Sie könnten sagen: Was gehen mich Impfungen in Ruanda an? In diesem Sinne, bleib frohen Mutes.
In Episode 34, Gregg welcomes Robert Cobbold. He is a philosopher, educator, and public speaker who has delivered transformative educational experiences to over 40,000 young people worldwide (see here for more). He is founding editor of Conscious Evolution, an online publication and podcast aiming to disseminate the evolutionary worldview, and kindle an evolutionary transition. In this episode, Robert narrates how he had a spiritual awakening several years ago that prompted him on this journey of discovery and the production of the Conscious Evolution podcasts and webpage. He and Gregg then sync this up with UTOK, and explore ways to weave a conscious evolutionary thread together. Here is the Conscious Evolution podcast series: https://www.consciousevolution.co.uk/ Conscious Evolution Podcast on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC--Bf2k7Gf3Q5N--NO45ECg --- Resources mentioned in this episode:
We're Wrong About the World And Why Things are better than you think” trägt. Before we begin, let's first consider a key question to understand this book. Do you think the world is going to get better or worse in the future? After years of research, the authors of this book have found that most people believe that our world is heading towards a negative path that will worsen in the upcoming year. If you ask them why such a negative perspective of the future, many will most likely cite the endless negative news about the destructions caused by environmental pollution, violent crimes, plane crashes, road accidents, new diseases as evidence that a darker future is on the way. However, to answer this question from a clear perspective, it is necessary to look at factual data and understand the truth behind it. We will learn how to do it in this book.

In this video I will talk about the Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World – and Why Things Are Better Than You Think book by Hans Rosling, Ola Rosling and Anna Rosling Rönnlund. This book is about why we are seeing the world as an increasingly worsening place, instead of looking at all the progress we have made. Instead of blaming the media it actually goes to the root of the problem, the human psychology and how our minds work.
Episode Introduction Alexander Betts, Professor of Forced Migration and International Affairs at the University of Oxford, and Ola Rosling, CEO of Gapminder, discuss what (almost) everybody gets wrong about refugees in this episode hosted by IKEA Foundation CEO Per Heggenes. There are a lot of misconceptions about refugees, especially around their intentions and why they leave their homes, belongings and loved ones to venture into the unknown. Do you think you know your facts about refugees? Learn more from two interesting and knowledgeable guests who shine a light on some of the issues faced by the world's 26 million refugees. Guests Bio Ola Rosling is President and Co-Founder of Gapminder Foundation, which he founded together with his wife and his father. Since 1999, Ola has led the development of the Trendalyzer software, which was acquired by Google in 2007. At Google Ola and his team delivered the Motion Chart as part of Google Spreadsheets. As Product Manager for Google Public Data, Ola then helped democratise access to public statistics by developing the infrastructure needed to make official statistics part of Google Search results. Ola and Anna went back to Gapminder in 2011 to develop free teaching materials for a fact-based worldview. In 2014, Ola coined the term “Factfulness”, which Gapminder is now promoting to make education about Sustainable Development less ideological and more fact-based. Together with Anna and Hans, Ola wrote Factfulness, a book launched in April 2018. Welcome to Episode 7 of the WELL + WILD Podcast. This week we have a super impressive guest, her name is Meg Harris, she works in a corporate job she loves but also has a serious side hobby and passion for Powerlifting. We discuss how Powerlifting has brought additional fulfilment to Meg's life and why it's important to keep up things we love in addition to work and career. Meg's story highlights how fulfilment outside of a corporate job can come in different forms. In this episode, we discuss how Meg got into Powerlifting, the importance of seizing opportunities and how having a passion project/competing impacts her corporate performance in a positive way. I loved speaking with Meg and how she smashes stereotypes, she's an incredible impressive lady and despite being only 23 I think we can all take a lot away from her story and wisdom.
