No, Not Everybody Needs a Therapist: Amy Morin on America's Epidemic of Mental Weakness

    Keen On Democracy

“Not everybody needs therapy. I'm a therapist and I'll tell you first.” — Amy Morin Is an epidemic of mental weakness sweeping America? Readers of the Wall Street Journal certainly might think so, given a couple of recent articles. In one, it reports on burnt-out singles who are using spreadsheets to evaluate their dates. In the other, young adults are taking their phones to social events and letting AI do their talking. Sad. So I invited Ms Mental Strength herself, Amy Morin — host of the Mentally Stronger podcast and author of The Mental Strength Playbook — to ask what's happened to American self-confidence in our AI age. Morin sees it daily in her own therapy office with patients relying on ChatGPT to set boundaries with their mothers-in-law. In a world of information overload, she argues, we've come to believe there must be a medical solution to all our complexities — forgetting that relationships are an art, not a science, and that conflict and awkward silences are features of human life rather than bugs. So the dinner-party guests who sneak off with their pocket supercomputers to the bathroom to ask ChatGPT for five “interesting” questions come back with canned questions that make them sound even less interesting. In contrast, Morin argues, real social confidence is built by taking risks. And it's no longer a risk, she suggests, to go to a therapist. It's become the equivalent of slinking into the bathroom with your phone to prompt conversation. Yes, this therapist worries we live in an overly therapeutic culture. Anxiety is normal, Morin says. But ADHD diagnoses and even autism have become a kind of moral passport in America. It's almost as if people should be anxious if they're not anxious. Her prescription is free. Not even the cost of a therapy session. Ask yourself, at the end of every day, what did I do today to grow mentally stronger? It's like going to the gym. Build up your mental strength. Become self-reliant. The standard American fix. That will kick your therapy habit. That will end the epidemic of mental weakness now engulfing the United States. Five Takeaways •       AI Is Doing Our Talking. The Wall Street Journal reports singles running spreadsheets on their dates and young adults letting AI script their conversations in person — and Morin sees the same thing in her therapy office, where clients ask ChatGPT how to set boundaries with their in-laws. The root, she argues, is information overload: because we can look up how to fix a sink, we assume there's a scientific way to reject a suitor or confront a friend. But relationships are an art, not a science. There is supposed to be tension; conflict isn't horrible; real human conversations — with questions, uncertainty, and lulls — are essential. What could be more important than managing your own relationships yourself?•       Avoidance Never Builds Confidence. The dinner-party guest who hides in the bathroom asking ChatGPT for five interesting questions comes out asking canned questions and listening to no one — panicking about what was next on the list. Relying on technology for what makes us insecure, Morin argues, is avoidance dressed as help: skills we don't practice diminish, so the app makes us worse, not better. Nor is the polished online persona sustainable — like fake photos on a dating profile, the eloquence collapses at the second coffee. Connection comes from vulnerability, not perfection: “I really struggle with X” bonds people; the perfect question does not.•       Thirteen Things, Fifty Million Readers. Morin's authority is autobiographical. Her mother died when she was 23; on the third anniversary of that death, her 26-year-old husband died of a heart attack; later her father-in-law received a terminal cancer diagnosis. On one of the worst days of her life she wrote herself a letter — 13 things mentally strong people don't do — and read it over and over. Published online for what she assumed would be five readers, it reached fifty million and became seven books in more than 45 languages. Mental strength, she learned, isn't resilience-as-bracing: it's getting the most out of life on the emotional roller coaster — good times included.•       Not Everybody Needs Therapy. Asked whether we live in an overly therapeutic culture, this therapist says yes. Anxiety is a normal emotion — without it you wouldn't look both ways — but pandemic-era applause for disclosure watered down the difference between sadness and clinical depression, awkwardness and social anxiety disorder. TikTok quizzes hand out ADHD; “burnout” now means tired; autism risks becoming a passport; and self-diagnosis becomes self-fulfilling prophecy. Meanwhile 96 percent of college students say they arrived academically prepared — and most say they arrived emotionally unprepared. As editor-in-chief of Verywell Mind, Morin went undercover on the online-therapy platforms: some therapists were excellent; others gave canned advice that frightened her. And the worried well, she warns, clog the six-month waiting lists the seriously ill cannot afford.•       Your Body Believes What Your Brain Tells It. The Guardian's Emma Beddington recently asked whether Morin's “power phrases” could turn a self-described spineless worm into a go-getter. Answer: yes — walk into a room thinking nobody likes me and your body language obliges; walk in resolved to do your best and it obliges again. Nobody changes their life by sitting on the couch thinking positive — action is required — but thought is the first step. Her daily practice: ask, what did I do today to grow mentally stronger? And the anger all around us? How we treat others reflects how we feel about ourselves — the troll's cruelty is a quick boost for a self he can't stand. Technology, finally, cuts both ways: never has expert advice been this free. Feed your mind well or feed it junk. Up to you. About the Guest Amy Morin is a psychotherapist, mental strength trainer, and internationally bestselling author whose books — including 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do — have sold more than a million copies in over 45 languages. She has practiced therapy for more than twenty years, served as editor-in-chief of Verywell Mind, and hosts the award-winning Mentally Stronger podcast; her TEDx talk, “The Secret of Becoming Mentally Strong,” is among the most viewed of all time with more than 25 million views. Ex-Special Forces commando Tim Thomas on why elite soldiers break — and the 10 minutes a day that fix every exhausted man. From down under, Tim joins Ted Phaeton on The Modern Man Podcast to unpack the Performance Pyramid, the Two Golden 5-Minute Windows, and the warfare tactic he learned in Afghanistan that maps directly to how modern men are burning themselves out.   Tim served with Australian Special Forces in Afghanistan, competed as a pro MMA fighter, survived PTSD, and has spent the last decade in the veteran recovery space. He's the founder of Breathwork in Bed (an app, a method, and a movement), author of Fight, Flight, Feel, and has raised over $1M for veteran mental health research. His message is simple — most men are trying to fix their life while exhausted. Fix the sleep first, everything else follows.   In this conversation: the Performance Pyramid (outcomes → actions → rest/recovery/healing art forms — and why most men build only the top two), the bow-and-arrow reframe for rest days ("bow days"), self-worth as our real center of gravity, how pain transforms into loneliness and isolation and what breaks it, the "energetic millionaire" metaphor, Tim's own path through the crushing weight of defeat, and the tactical spine — the 5 minutes before sleep + 5 minutes upon waking that determine the shape of your entire day. Plus: why breath outranks thinking, why the presence of oxygen is the absence of disease, and Tim's invitation to Ted (and to you) — the Breathwork in Bed 28-day challenge.   Chapters: 00:00 Elite soldiers break — not from lack of strength, from lack of recovery 01:42 Welcome brother — Ted's intro 02:12 The performance question no training manual prepares you for 02:55 The 20s vs. the rest of your life  03:15 The Performance Pyramid (outcomes → actions → rest)  05:22 Warfare tactic — attack the enemy's sleep, better than a bullet 05:53 Our center of gravity is self-worth  08:16 Ted on peace in the home  10:36 The bow-and-arrow reframe — bow days over rest days  14:02 Solitude vs. isolation  16:38 The danger age for men — 38 to 42  17:20 Tim's veteran suicide-prevention work — 40 lives in one year  21:23 The Noble Knights + the isolation break  23:14 The question that changes everything — how many other people? 26:04 The firefighter story — the problem wasn't my own  27:33 The Energetic Millionaire metaphor  30:37 The research on sleep + testosterone + performance  32:51 Speaking to the stubborn version of yourself  35:31 The pyramid vs. pyramid — the competitor's edge  38:24 THE TWO GOLDEN 5-MINUTE WINDOWS  40:41 Breath outranks thinking 42:30 What the breath work actually looks like  45:22 Sleep is the soil from which everything grows 46:27 The Breathwork in Bed 28-day challenge  49:13 The crushing weight of defeat — Tim's vision  51:25 Ted's recap   Connect with Tim Thomas: Breathwork in Bed app: Search "Breathwork in Bed" in your app store — 28-day free trial Book: Fight, Flight, Feel Web: breathworkinbed.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/breathworkinbed

Have you ever felt anxious before your workday even begins?Maybe your heart starts racing before you log in. Maybe your stomach tightens during your commute. Or perhaps you end every shift emotionally exhausted, wondering why work seems to drain so much more than your energy. If any of that sounds familiar, you're not alone.Workplace anxiety affects millions of people, yet many of us dismiss it as “just part of being an adult.” We tell ourselves to push through, work harder, and be grateful to have a job. But chronic workplace stress doesn't just disappear—it often follows us home, disrupts our sleep, impacts our relationships, and slowly chips away at our mental and emotional well-being.In this episode of The Grounded Bag Podcast, we're unpacking the hidden causes of workplace anxiety, exploring why work can feel emotionally overwhelming, and sharing practical tools you can use to protect your peace without sacrificing your career. What Is Workplace Anxiety?Workplace anxiety isn't simply having a stressful day. It's the ongoing emotional, physical, and psychological distress connected to your work environment or job responsibilities. It can show up as:* Racing thoughts before work* Difficulty concentrating* Trouble sleeping the night before a shift* Feeling emotionally numb or constantly overwhelmed* Muscle tension or headaches* Irritability and emotional exhaustion* Fear of making mistakes* Feeling like you're never doing enoughSometimes the anxiety comes from the job itself. Other times, it's the environment surrounding the work. Why Does Work Make Us So Anxious? There isn't one universal cause. Workplace anxiety is often the result of multiple stressors building over time.Toxic Workplace CulturesConstant criticism, gossip, favoritism, micromanagement, poor leadership, or lack of psychological safety can leave employees feeling emotionally guarded every day. When survival becomes the goal instead of growth, anxiety naturally follows.Unrealistic ExpectationsMany workplaces expect employees to produce more with fewer resources while remaining constantly available. The pressure to always perform can create chronic stress that eventually leads to burnout.PerfectionismSometimes the workplace isn't the only source of anxiety. Many of us carry internal beliefs that tell us we must never make mistakes, disappoint others, or ask for help.Perfectionism often disguises itself as ambition—but beneath it is frequently fear.BurnoutBurnout doesn't happen overnight. It develops when stress becomes chronic and recovery never happens. You may begin feeling emotionally detached, physically exhausted, cynical about work, or disconnected from the purpose that once motivated you.Unresolved Stress and TraumaPast experiences—whether from previous jobs, personal relationships, childhood environments, or discrimination—can influence how we respond to workplace challenges today.Sometimes work activates wounds that were never fully healed.Practical Coping Tools for Workplace AnxietyWhile we can't always change our work environment immediately, we can develop healthier ways to care for ourselves while planning our next steps.Create BoundariesBoundaries protect your mental health. That might mean:* Logging off on time* Taking your lunch break* Avoiding checking emails after work* Saying no when your workload becomes unrealisticBoundaries aren't selfish—they're sustainable.Notice Your Physical Stress SignalsPay attention to your body.Do your shoulders tense up during meetings?Does your breathing become shallow?Does your stomach tighten before speaking with certain coworkers?Awareness is often the first step toward healing.Practice Grounding TechniquesSimple grounding exercises can help regulate your nervous system during stressful moments.Try:* Box breathing* A five-minute walk* Stretching between meetings* Naming five things you can see, hear, or feel* Progressive muscle relaxationSmall moments of regulation throughout the day can have a significant impact.Challenge Anxious ThoughtsAsk yourself:* Is this thought based on facts or fear?* What evidence supports this belief?* Am I assuming the worst-case scenario?* What would I tell a friend experiencing this?Learning to question anxious thinking helps reduce its power.Seek SupportYou don't have to navigate workplace anxiety alone.Whether it's therapy, support groups, trusted mentors, or loved ones, talking through your experiences can reduce isolation and help you develop healthier coping strategies.Seeking help is a sign of strength—not weakness.Grounded Reflection QuestionsTake a few moments to reflect honestly.* What specific parts of work trigger my anxiety?* Do I feel pressure to hide my stress?* What would a psychologically safe workplace feel like?* Am I holding tension I haven't processed?* What helps me feel grounded during the workday?Healing often begins with awareness.Free Mental Health ResourcesIf workplace anxiety has become overwhelming, these organizations offer education, support, and helpful resources:* Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA): https://adaa.org* National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): https://www.nami.org* HeyPeers: https://heypeers.comJoin the ConversationWhat has helped you manage workplace anxiety?Share your experiences, coping strategies, or lessons you've learned. Your story may encourage someone else who needs the reminder that they are not alone.Continue Growing With MeIf this conversation resonated with you, I'd love for you to join our growing community.

In this episode, we speak with Andrea Brand, Chair of the Department of Cell Biology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and Director of the Regenerative Medicine Institute. We discuss her scientific path from yeast gene regulation to Drosophila neurobiology, and how early interests in DNA and microscopy shaped her career. We talk about the development of the GAL4 system with Norbert Perrimon and how it enabled targeted gene expression in specific tissues and cells. Andrea explains why this approach has remained useful across decades, including its applications in Drosophila and beyond, while noting that no experimental system is perfect and results should be cross-checked with other methods. We also discuss targeted DAM-ID and chromatin DAM-ID, methods developed in her lab to study protein-DNA interactions and chromatin marks in vivo without removing cells from their normal tissue environment. Andrea describes how these tools helped her lab analyze neural stem cells in their niche and investigate changes in chromatin during quiescence and reactivation. A major theme of the conversation is neural stem cell quiescence. We cover how her lab found that quiescent stem cells can show unexpectedly open chromatin, express neuronal genes, and adopt neuron-like features, including long projections and interactions with neurons. We also discuss the link to metabolism, including feeding signals, the fat body, blood-brain barrier glia, insulin-like peptides, and TGF-beta signaling. Finally, we talk about Andrea's recent move toward human brain organoids and the goal of connecting model organism work to human biology and patient data. We discuss ongoing work on quiescent cells, TRIB family genes, and cancer–neuron interactions, as well as the need to better distinguish quiescence from senescence in vivo. New Work in Deutschland steht. Send us Fan Mail Hi, Richard Wilson here, founder of Family Office Club. I just wrapped our Monthly Live Forum on AI, and I wanted to make sure this one actually gets used, not just watched. Here's what I walked through in this session: why context engineering matters two to three times more than prompt engineering right now, and how to actually build it into your own workflow instead of just chatting with ChatGPT or Claude like it's a search engine. I showed you the three levels of AI maturity most founders get stuck at level one on, and how we built what I call "Intelligence Centers," one Claude project per role on my team, each with four to seven tools built specifically for that person's job. No more guessing which tool to use for what.I also introduced you to Clara, our AI pitch architect who will critique your one-liner, your pitch deck, and your due diligence questionnaire against 1,500 investor talks recorded on our stages. And Dewey and Vetti, our due diligence and real estate stress-testing tools that can rank ten pitch decks against each other in minutes. I explained why a one-line pitch, a 60 to 90 second founder video, and a 30-question due diligence FAQ will put you ahead of 99% of the people currently raising capital, because almost nobody has all three in place. We also got into real questions from the room: how to structure a deal when you don't have a track record or a full team yet, how family offices actually vet trust before they'll wire you a dollar, and why the relationship matters roughly twice as much as the merit of the deal itself.A little about us, so you know why I'm confident saying any of this: I started Family Office Club 19 years ago in 2007. We've hosted 300+ investor events, we host 30+ events a year across the US, we've got 16 million registered members across our LinkedIn groups, 18.5 million followers across social, and our community has closed over $1 billion in deals together. We built 50+ AI tools specifically for founders and investors, based on 1,500 investor talks from our own stages, not random internet data.If you want the full deployment kit for what I showed here, meaning the exact Claude project instructions, prompts, and skills my team uses daily, or you want to see our next event schedule, here's how:Apply for membership and unlock the AI tools + member portal: https://FamilyOffices.com/JoinSee our next in-person investor event: https://FamilyOffices.comDrop your biggest AI or capital-raising question in the comments below and I will personally reply. Also: Reinhören! Are you bringing home more than just your briefcase at the end of a long workday? For many, the hidden toll of workplace stress doesn't stay behind at the office—it seeps into our most intimate relationships, silently undermining connection, emotional safety, and even physical closeness. It's a problem so common and subtle that many don't realize work is affecting their love life until the damage is already done. In this episode, listeners are invited to uncover the overlooked ways that work stress spills over into the home, affecting both partners' emotional well-being and the overall health of their relationship. The conversation explores how chronic pressure at work can disrupt intimacy, communication, and even one's sex drive, while providing practical strategies and ritual ideas to help couples reclaim their connection. Through actionable tips on communication, intentional transitions, and building emotional resilience, this episode offers a roadmap for transforming work-induced disconnect into renewed connection and support. Name Your Emotional State: Verbally acknowledge your mood or stress level to your partner when you arrive home, reducing uncertainty and fostering understanding. Communicate Your Needs: Clearly state if you need time to decompress before interacting, setting expectations, and providing your partner with context. Use Venting and Problem-Solving Time: Divide post-work conversations into venting and solution-focused segments, aiming to wrap up with action steps or reframing to avoid lingering stress. Compartmentalize Work Worries: Write down concerns and physically or psychologically "put them away," or schedule "worry time" later, allowing you to be more present at home. Limit Work Talk Boundaries: Set aside a defined period to talk about your day with your partner, then intentionally shift focus to non-work connection and relaxation. Foster Quick Emotional Connection: Engage in brief but meaningful actions such as holding hands, reminiscing over old photos, or talking about a shared show to nurture emotional intimacy even when tired. Practice Mutual Empathy: Intentionally try to imagine your partner's day and emotional needs, using empathy as a tool to bridge gaps and prevent misinterpretations caused by stress or depletion.   Mentioned Mind Over Grind (*Amazon Affiliate link) (book) How to Fix a Broken Heart (*Amazon Affiliate link) (book) Emotional First Aid (*Amazon Affiliate link) (book) The Squeaky Wheel (*Amazon Affiliate link) (book) Shifting Criticism For Connected Communication (free relationship guide) Connect with Dr. Guy Winch Website: guywinch.com Facebook: facebook.com/guywinchauthor X: twitter.com/guywinch YouTube: youtube.com/@GuyWinch Instagram: instagram.com/guywinch LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/guywinch

On this episode of CyberCast, Brian Hermann, director of PAE Cyber at DISA, discussed how the agency is modernizing its cyber acquisition strategy by prioritizing commercial solutions, software-as-a-service offerings and more flexible contracting approaches. Hermann explained why DISA believes commercial technologies can deliver capabilities faster, reduce operational risk and better keep pace with evolving cyber threats. The conversation also explored how DISA is breaking down budget silos and consolidating resources to give portfolio leaders greater flexibility to adopt new technologies and retire legacy systems more quickly. As the department's acquisition transformation takes shape, Hermann outlines DISA's evolving role as an integrator of commercial capabilities — ensuring interoperability and mission effectiveness across contested, coalition and edge environments.

Greetings Glocal Citizens! This past spring, a volunteer from the Digital Democracy Project reached out to me about its founder and this week's guest, Ramon Perez. I'd never heard of the project and as a podcast about the many dimensions of citizenship, this was a very necessary conversation exploring innovative ways to enhance citizen participation and reform democracy using technology like AI, blockchain, and mobile voting. As an AI technology executive and US military veteran, Ramon founded the Digital Democracy Project as an accountability system and mobile voting platform that connects voters directly with their legislative representatives to address systemic problems in the electoral system that result in hyper-partisanship and widespread voter alienation. To achieve better outcomes, he believes technology can be used as a catalyst for building a more modern, representative system of government giving greater control directly to voters. #Listenandlearn more as we discuss systemic challenges in US politics and how technology can create a more transparent, accountable, and inclusive democratic process. Even high-earning attorneys can feel financially stuck when taxes, lifestyle creep, and poor planning collide. In this episode, you'll learn how to fix the most common money mistakes lawyers make and build a financial plan that actually supports your life and career.   In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Niraj Chhabra discuss: Taxes as the biggest financial pitfall for attorneys Lifestyle creep and savings habits for high earners Balancing kids' education, family support, and retirement Retirement, deferred compensation, and long-term care planning Unique financial challenges for solo and small-firm lawyers   Key Takeaways: Taxes are often the largest and most overlooked threat to an attorney's long-term wealth, especially when income rises, but tax strategy doesn't evolve. As income increases, spending almost always follows—but savings rarely keep pace unless it's structured and intentional. Funding children's education and big life events is important, but it must be weighed against the very real risk of extending your own working years. Tools like deferred compensation plans, 529s, and properly structured insurance can dramatically improve both tax efficiency and retirement outcomes when used correctly. Solo and small-firm lawyers face unique cash flow and risk issues and need different emergency reserves, retirement structures, and income protection than firm employees.   "You should have three to six months' worth of expenses set aside in cash. If you're a solo, you need 12 to 36..." — Niraj Chhabra   Check out my new show, Be That Lawyer Coaches Corner, and get the strategies I use with my clients to win more business and love your career again.   Join the Be That Lawyer Community and connect with ambitious lawyers who are serious about growing their book of business, strengthening their brand, and becoming confident, consistent rainmakers.   Ready to go from good to GOAT in your legal marketing game? You may have picked this up by now about how passionate I am about the field of somatic psychology. Learning about how to experience my body on all levels and build awareness of my nervous system states felt like it was learning how to come home to myself. I have often joked that many people who are somatic practitioners were drawn to this work because they have lived much of their life disconnected from their own bodies and I'm no exception. I spent so much of my life outside of my body. It was in learning how to stay with myself in all emotions, sensations, and reactions that I felt like my body could be a home for myself again. This can be a lifelong practice and I feel as though somatics provides the resources on how to be in this practice day after day. Sometimes, the first step toward creating a new perception and sense of safety to come closer to your body is through curiosity and somatic tracking. It can be crucially important to start noticing how your body responds to various internal or external input because this will guide you toward undigested life experiences, nervous system states, and bodily needs. In this week's episode, I chat with Laurie James, author, certified somatic practitioner & coach, and podcaster, about: The power of body awarenessHow to recognize overwhelm and stressUnderstanding the spectrum of personal developmentIncluding the importance of rest and integrationNavigating both needs for stillness and movementThe difference between somatic work and meditationBuilding connection with your bodyYou can also read the transcript to this week's episode here: https://www.stephaniemara.com/blog/use-these-somatic-tools-during-and-after-tough-timesIf you have any insights from this recent episode, email me anytime and would love to hear from you! With Compassion and Empathy, Stephanie Mara FoxKeep in touch with Laurie here: Website: https://www.laurieejames.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laurie.james/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/laurie-james-8336a0168/Support the showKeep in touch with Stephanie Mara:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_stephaniemara/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stephaniemarafoxWebsite: https://www.stephaniemara.com/https://www.somaticeating.com/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephmara/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@stephaniemarafoxContact: support@stephaniemara.comSupport the show:Become a supporter: https://www.buzzsprout.com/809987/supportAll affiliate links: https://www.stephaniemara.com/resourcesReceive 15% off my fave protein powder with code STEPHANIEMARA at checkout here: https://www.equipfoods.com/STEPHANIEMARAUse my Amazon Affiliate link when shopping on Amazon: https://amzn.to/448IyPlSpecial thanks to Bendsound for the music in this episode. www.bensou...

-With Soochen Low   Betrayal can leave you feeling as though you have lost control over everything—your relationship, your future, your finances, and even your ability to trust yourself. You may question your judgment, second-guess every decision, and become so afraid of making another mistake that you stop moving forward altogether. But sovereignty is not about always knowing the right answer. It is about reclaiming your authority over your own life. In this episode, Lora Cheadle is joined by creative power business alchemist and sovereign leadership catalyst Soochen Low for a conversation about rebuilding self-trust, listening to your heart, reclaiming your financial power, and creating a life that belongs to you. Soochen shares her experience of leaving a controlling and emotionally abusive marriage after ten years of feeling that she was never doing, earning, or contributing enough. Although she had built successful businesses and generated significant income, she had allowed someone else's story about her worth to become more powerful than her own. Together, Lora and Soochen explore what it means to trust your heart after it has been broken—and why listening to your intuition does not guarantee that life will always be easy or painless. Sometimes your inner wisdom warns you away from something. Other times, it leads you directly into an experience that becomes part of your growth, awakening, and evolution. They also discuss the financial fear that often accompanies betrayal and why earning, receiving, and building wealth are not selfish. Money can become an expression of agency, creativity, generosity, and freedom. Reclaiming your financial power is not merely about making more money. It is about recognizing that you are capable of supporting yourself, directing your life, and making choices based on what is right for you. This conversation is an invitation to stop waiting until you feel completely certain, stop demanding perfection from yourself, and begin moving forward one choice at a time. Because becoming sovereign does not mean you will never make another mistake. It means the choices—and the life—are finally yours.   Top 3 Takeaways Your heart may not have betrayed you. After betrayal, it is common to believe that your intuition failed because you trusted someone who later hurt you. But you may have heard your inner wisdom and not yet understood it, or your path may have contained lessons and growth that you could not have anticipated. Rebuilding self-trust begins with curiosity and compassion rather than blaming yourself for what you did not know. Financial sovereignty is part of recovering yourself. Betrayal can create intense fears about money, security, and survival. Reclaiming your financial power means recognizing your ability to create, earn, receive, and make decisions for yourself. Money does not have to be associated with greed, selfishness, or proving your worth. It can support freedom, generosity, service, and choice.   Sovereignty is not perfection—it is agency. You do not have to know exactly how everything will turn out before you move. You are allowed to choose, make mistakes, change your mind, and choose again. Your power is not found in getting every decision right. It is found in knowing that you can respond, adjust, and continue creating a life that reflects who you are now.   Favorite Quotes “I thought I was going to crash and burn. But I didn't. I discovered I had wings—that I could actually fly.” —Soochen Low   About Soochen Soochen Low is a creative power business alchemist and sovereign leadership catalyst who supports creative, conscious, mission-driven women in building financially sustainable businesses without abandoning their integrity, creativity, or values. Her work helps women move beyond people-pleasing, proving, and self-sacrifice so they can reclaim their creative power and lead their businesses, income, lives, and destinies with greater sovereignty. She is also the author of the forthcoming book From Servant Girl to Sovereign Queen, which explores rewriting the stories that keep women small, transforming their businesses, and leading from the wisdom of the heart. He's since moved his own total T to 1,100, doubled his free testosterone, broke his own income barrier, and met the woman he's now marrying.   In this conversation, Mark and Ted go deep on why "normal" testosterone is a lie (74% of Americans are overweight — that's the population setting the normal range), Mark's named diagnostic concept — the Health Handbrakes — that a standard blood panel won't reveal, why TRT is like winning the lottery (no process, no struggle, and you're on it for life), the free-T-vs-SHBG conversation most doctors skip, the sniper-vs-shotgun reframe for supplements (and the Tongkat Ali standardization rule most brands hide), and the leadership-testosterone connection — why lower T makes you more risk-averse and quietly shrinks your ambition.   Plus: Ted's own before/after receipts (198 → 800 natural), the University of Chicago sleep study that showed a 5-hour night drops testosterone 10-15% in one week, the 2007 JCEM data showing modern men's T is generationally lower than their fathers' generation at the same age, and Mark's closer on the nice-guy generational curse he inherited from his father and broke.   If you're a high-performing man between 25 and 55 with a "normal" blood panel and a feeling something's off — this one's for you.   Key insights from this episode:   Testosterone as an on-demand hormone (not a fixed number) Why "normal T ranges" are a lie (74% of Americans set that baseline) The Health Handbrakes: the root causes of low T that a standard panel misses The Unchained standard: 700 total testosterone is the floor, not the ceiling Free T + SHBG: why total T alone lies to you TRT is like winning the lottery: no process, no struggle, and you're on it for life Sniper vs. Shotgun supplementation (and the Tongkat Ali 2% eurycomanone rule) The testosterone-leadership connection: why low T makes you risk-averse Ted's before/after receipts: 198 to 800 natural in 18 months Mark's N=1 story: 1,100 total T, doubled free T, wife met, business broke through   Chapters: 00:00 The confession — my T was 198 02:04 What's Changed About Testosterone? 04:25 Can You Naturally Increase Testosterone? 05:47 Why "Normal" Blood Work Isn't Enough 08:36 The Testosterone Range Doctors Miss 10:00 Ted's Testosterone: 198 → 800 Naturally 11:57 What to Do If Your Doctor Says You're "Normal" 14:20 Can You Come Off TRT? 15:42 TRT vs. Fixing the Root Cause 17:58 Stress, Sleep & Free Testosterone 20:15 When Is TRT Actually Necessary? 23:04 Why Men's Testosterone Keeps Declining 25:42 The Truth About Testosterone Supplements 29:43 Zinc, Vitamin D & Deficiencies Explained 30:36 Why Most T Boosters Don't Work 33:22 The Hidden Cost of Low Testosterone 36:42 Testosterone, Leadership & Confidence 39:22 Does Sunlight on Your Balls Work? 40:23 Mark's Results: 1,100 Testosterone 45:14 Health, Wealth & Love 45:47 Free Blood Work Analysis 46:47 The Lesson That Changed Mark's Life 49:09 Ted's Biggest Takeaways Connect with Mark Holman: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markholmanhealth/ Free Master Class: https://go.markholmanfitness.com/testosteronemasterclass Linktree: https://linktr.ee/Markholmanhealth

For nearly fifty years, one family owned the same historic building in the middle of town. Over the decades they repaired it, protected it, and passed it from one generation to the next. Along with the building came one strange family tradition that no one could fully explain. The attic door was never supposed to be locked. When the newest owner modernized the building, he ignored the old rule. It seemed like common sense—every other door had a deadbolt, so why should the attic be any different?Within days, he began hearing someone working in the workshop after the building had closed for the night. Drawers opened. Tools slid across the old workbench. The wooden stool creaked beneath invisible weight. Every sound stopped the moment the attic was unlocked. It wasn't until his father admitted the noises had been happening for generations that he realized some family traditions aren't meant to be questioned.#GhostStory #HauntedAttic #Paranormal #FamilyHaunting #TrueGhostStory #HauntedWorkshop #Supernatural #Unexplained #SmallTownHauntings #GhostEncounter #HauntedBuilding Love real ghost stories? Dr. Jim Burns, founder of HomeWord, returns to the Jesus Calling Podcast to discuss how parents can navigate the heartbreak of estrangement with their adult children. He offers advice on avoiding self-blame, communicating without unsolicited criticism, and prioritizing healthy boundaries. Later, neuroscientist Dr. Joshua W. Brown shares how a terminal brain tumor diagnosis at age thirty sparked his interest in investigating how faith practices and prayer contribute to healing. Using his scientific training, he describes seeing cases that medical professionals cannot explain, exploring how healing may happen beyond the scope of traditional treatment. Brown Interview Quotes: “I say to people whose kids are just moving into adulthood: ‘Number one, you’re fired as a day-to-day parent. You have to give the kid the passport to adulthood.’” - Dr. Jim Burns “Mentors don’t necessarily give advice, they give advice when they’re asked.” - Dr. Jim Burns “I say to parents all the time, take the lead, but take the lead with love. Take the lead with kindness.” - Dr. Jim Burns “There are very few estrangements where we don’t need the help of counsel. We need somebody coming alongside us to give us insight, especially with estrangement, because we don’t know what to do.” - Dr. Jim Burns “So the tightrope that you walk is you show love, you practice kindness, you expand the relationship to not just be a one-topic parent. And in doing that, you can embrace your child and love your child.” - Dr. Jim Burns “I think the bottom line with a lot of people, a lot of adult children, is they’re asking one question, ‘Do you still love me?’” - Dr. Jim Burns “If you hope for nothing, you are protected from being disappointed. And so hope has a cost to it. I was starting to see people, right in front of me, experience healing through this kind of prayer ministry. And so that gave me some degree of hope that there was at least something going on there that was worth pursuing.” - Dr. Joshua W. Brown “If you spend your time praying, thinking about God, thinking about His goodness, thinking about how He loves you and cares for you, your brain cells will become more responsive to those thoughts over time.” - Dr. Joshua W. Brown “Can what we believe, or our prayers for example, lead to mind-body effects that can have effects on actually reducing pain?” - Dr. Joshua W. Brown “As with food, you are what you eat. And I think the same principle applies spiritually and even psychologically [as to] the things that you spend time thinking about.” - Dr. Joshua W.
