In order to initiate and implement conversion on a much larger scale, we need a change in our current culture - in planning, in building, and also in the way we use, think about, and imagine space. In this discussion we continue the debate on planning cultures of conversion. University and institutional research meets practice. We are building on the impulses and discussions of our jointly organized symposium at tu! Hambach 2024, which we organized together. We were on site in a region undergoing major restructuring: the Rhenish lignite mining area. Our event took place in the abandoned village of Morschenich-Alt, now Bürgerwald. This village is facing a far-reaching conversion process in the coming years. And even beyond the specific background of the abandonment of lignite mining, there are many reasons to take a closer look at the existing material, social and cultural resources in the existing buildings and settlement areas and to make use of them.Um Umbau in viel größerem Umfang in Gang zu setzen und umzusetzen, benötigen wir eine Veränderung unserer aktuellen Kultur – im Planen, im Bauen und auch in unserer Art und Weise, wie wir Räume nutzen, denken und imaginieren. There is currently a lot of discussion about conversion (culture), building and spatial change. There are many reasons for turning to and using existing material as well as social and cultural resources in existing buildings and settlements. These include the ongoing consumption of resources, the release of CO2 and the production of waste in the construction industry, the unchecked consumption of land in the development of settlements and infrastructure, and the complex forms of structural economic, social, and cultural change in urban and rural areas. The preoccupation with existing buildings is not new. A good 50 years ago, it was decisively initiated by urban development funding in Germany, the European Year of Monument Protection and a few years later by the IBA-Altbau in Berlin. The transformation in the existing built and lived city continues unabated today and is being given new impetus by a series of structural breaks and crises. These include vacancies as well as the need for renewal due to changing economic, social, or climatic conditions. In the conversation with Peter Köddermann, Stine Kolbert und Mario Tvrtković we discuss how reconstruction and redevelopment can actually be initiated, designed and implemented under inherent uncertainties and with the involvement of a large number of stakeholders and relevant interest groups involved. The discussion is based on the jointly organized symposium "Planning Cultures of Conversion" in June 2024 as part of tu! Hambach 2024.Umbau(-kultur), Bau- und Raumwende sind in aller Munde. Es gibt viele Anlässe für die Hinwendung zu und Inwertsetzung von bestehenden materiellen wie auch sozialen und kulturellen Ressourcen im Gebäudebestand und in bestehenden Siedlungsgebieten. Dazu zählen die anhaltende Höhe von Ressourcenverbrauch, CO2 Freisetzung und Müllproduktion im Bauwesen, der ungebremste Flächenverbrauch in der Siedlungs- und Infrastrukturentwicklung oder auch die vielschichtigen Formen des strukturellen ökonomischen, sozialen, kulturellen Wandels im urbanen bis ländlichen Raum. Die Beschäftigung mit dem Bestand ist nicht neu. Sie wurde vor gut 50 Jahren durch die Städtebauförderung, das Europäische Denkmalschutzjahr sowie einige Jahre später durch die IBA-Altbau in Berlin maßgeblich mit angestoßen. Der Wandel in der bestehenden gebauten und gelebten Stadt hält heute unvermindert an und erhält durch eine Vielzahl von Strukturbrüchen und Krisen neue Schübe. Dazu zählen Leerstände genauso wie Erneuerungsbedarfe aufgrund veränderter ökonomischer, sozialer oder auch klimatischer Bedingungen. This month we are delighted to be joined by Andrea Brock, who is a political ecologist at University of Sussex. Andrea works with forest defenders and environmental movements looking at the responses from state and corporate actors to ecological dissent. Andrea shares with us the trajectory of her research career which was influenced by being brought up in the German Rhineland in proximity to the world's largest open-cast lignite mine. She shares with us her insights into the actions of the mining company and the greenwashing acrobatics that are put in place to distract from the ecological destruction that is taking place as a result of these mining projects. She gives insight into the repression that had been levied against land defenders in the ancient Hambach Forest which has been under threat from mine operator RWE. "Daily Idylls" est un projet d'Aleksandra Chaushova et Zinaïda Tchelidze présenté à Art Antwerp du 15 au 18 décembre. La commissaire Pauline Hatzigeorgiou nous présente le projet ainsi que SB34, un lieu d'exposition et d'ateliers d'artistes situé à Bruxelles. Leni Bohrmann hat ihr Schauspielstudium an der Theaterakademie Mannheim abgeschlossen. Sie tritt aber nicht nur als Schauspielerin auf, sondern auch als Autorin von Theaterstücken für Kinder und Erwachsene. Außerdem ist sie Mitglied des Theater- und Kulturfördervereins Hambach e.V. und führt seit Anfang 2019 mit Backstage, ihren eigenen Podcast, in dem sie Künsterlinnen und Künstler aus verschiedenen Sparten vorstellt und einen Blick hinter die Kulissen wirft. D'après la revue Energy Policy, le monde compte aujourd'hui 425 « bombes climatiques » -c'est le nom de ces projets- réparties dans 48 pays et prêtes à annihiler les efforts déployés pour préserver la planète. Le champ lexical que j'utilise est sans doute un peu trop alarmiste mais il est à la hauteur de l'enjeu que représentent ces « bombes climatiques ». Car entre le projet Red Hill en Australie, Montney Play ou Christina Lake au Canada, la mine de Hongshaquan en Chine, celles de Hambach et de Garzweiler en Allemagne pour ne citez qu'eux, ce sont potentiellement 1 milliards de tonnes de CO2 qui pourraient être rejetées durant la durée d'exploitation de ces 425 projets d'extraction d'énergies fossiles. D'après eux, cette liste déterminera, en grande partie l'avenir de la planète. Comme le rappelle le secrétaire général des Nations Unies Antonio Guterres, il est absolument nécessaire de sortir du charbon, du pétrole et du gaz, et je cite « d'accélérer la fin de notre dépendance aux combustibles fossiles. » D'après Kjell Kühne, l'un des auteurs de l'étude parue dans Energy Policy, la question des énergies fossiles, responsables tout de même de 80 % des émissions de gaz à effet de serre, n'a jusqu'ici pas suffisamment été au cœur des négociations climatiques. Wie Eigentum, Rechte und Freiheit verschwinden sollen! "Wie Eigentum, Rechte und Freiheit verschwinden sollen" lautet der Untertitel des Vortrages von Erich Hambach und er nimmt uns mit auf eine Reise ins Jahr 2030, in dem wir, wenn es nach WEF-Gründer Klaus Schwab geht, nichts mehr besitzen werden, aber glücklich dabei sind. Das zinsbasierte Schuldgeldsystem hat die Mehrzahl der Staaten in eine Schuldenkrise geführt, deren Dynamik unaufhaltsam zum Zusammenbruch des Finanzsystems führen muss. Erich Hambach zeigt auf, mit welchen Gesetzen, Verordnungen und Ideen sich die Regierungen und NGOs seit Jahren auf den Tag X vorbereiten, um die Staaten auf dem Rücken der Bürger zu entschulden. Dabei fallen Begriffe wie Lastenausgleich, Bargeld- und Goldverbot. Was Hambach an Fakten und teilweise bisher kaum kommunizierten Gesetzentwürfen präsentiert, ist wenig erfreulich, wenn nicht sogar erschütternd. Umso erfreulicher ist es, dass er im letzten Teil seines Vortrages Lösungsansätze anbietet, mit denen jeder direkt ins Handeln kommen kann. Aujourd’hui l’Économie, le portrait s’intéresse au milliardaire britannique James Ratcliffe, pro-Brexit et fondateur d’Ineos, géant mondial de la pétrochimie. Il vient de racheter l’usine de Daimler à Hambach dans l’est de la France pour fabriquer un nouveau 4x4 tout terrain. Au volant d’un prototype, sur un terrain boueux et accidenté James Ratcliffe, la mèche rebelle, fait la pub de son futur 4x4 Grenadier. Réputé pour ses acquisitions offensives, ce défenseur du Brexit a choisi la France pour réaliser son rêve automobile. Un choix décrié outre-Manche, mais une aubaine pour les 1 300 salariés de Smart, propriété de Daimler, menacé de fermeture. « Il voulait à la base fabriquer une partie de la production au Portugal et au Pays de Galles, mais cela aurait pris plus de temps, explique Mario Mutzette, délégué syndical CFE-CGC de Smart. Il a vu qu’il avait une usine clé en main, avec des salariés compétents, prêts à être efficaces tout de suite, donc cela permet dans ce projet de maintenir les emplois. En fait, Ineos va devenir un fabriquant de Daimler pour la Smart puisqu’on la continue jusqu’en 2024 et en parallèle jusqu’en 2022, le temps de modifier un peu les installations pour accueillir le Grenadier. Le produit en lui-même est bien pensé. Industriellement et professionnellement, c’est le début d’un constructeur, le début d’une marque. C’est excitant au niveau professionnel. » James Ratcliffe, 68 ans, vient d’une famille modeste de la banlieue industrielle de Manchester. Son père est menuisier et sa mère employée de bureau. De la fenêtre de sa chambre, il observe la fumée sortir des cheminées des usines. Des usines, il en rachètera plus d’une et deviendra l'entrepreneur le plus riche du Royaume-Uni en 2018, avec une fortune estimée à 26 milliards de dollars. Fortune qu’il a transféré il y a deux ans où la fiscalité est avantageuse. Lors d’une conférence à la London Business School où il a aussi étudié la finance, il revient sur son parcours: « J’ai toujours eu envie quelque part de créer quelque chose. J’ai obtenu mon diplôme d’ingénieur chimiste, puis travaillé chez Esso, la compagnie pétrolière, puis chez Courtaulds, les textiles synthétiques, et vers 35 ans, j’ai reçu un coup de fil d’un chasseur de tête qui m’a demandé si je voulais me lancer dans le monde du capital risque. J’ai dit oui parce que cela me permettait de tripler mon salaire, et d’obtenir une BMW 5350 ! J’ai dit oui surtout parce que j’ai vu là le moyen de devenir entrepreneur. Ma première acquisition a été une catastrophe, mais j’ai appris, et j’en ai réussi d’autres. Puis, j’ai pu racheter la branche chimie de BP en 1992. J’ai dû hypothéquer ma maison, tout ce que je possédais… Il y a intérêt à être très concentré », assure-t-il. Six ans plus tard, James Ratcliffe fonde Ineos et produit de tout : des huiles et plastiques synthétiques aux solvants utilisés pour fabriquer de l'insuline et des antibiotiques. Aujourd’hui, Ineos, ce sont 23 000 employés dans 26 pays et des ventes annuelles de 61 milliards de dollars. Parfois surnommé Dr. No, le méchant du premier James Bond, l’homme d’affaires n’en est pas à un paradoxe près. Il menace de fermer une usine en Angleterre pour être exempté de la taxe climat, mais il investit par ailleurs en faveur de l’environnement. Patrick Vuillermoz, directeur général de Plastipolis, une entreprise de la plasturgie, travaille avec Ineos depuis 4 ans. « C’est une société qui bouge pas mal c’est le moins qu’on puisse dire, relève-t-il. Ce que je trouve intéressant, c’est que c’est une société qui investit dans l’innovation par des partenariats, des rachats très ambitieux, en particulier dans un domaine qui nous concerne beaucoup, le recyclage des produits plastiques. Que ce soit un emballage, une carrosserie, un revêtement de sol ou une fenêtre. L'idée, c’est de trouver la solution pour que ce déchet n’en soit plus un et que ce soit une ressource. Ils ont monté des partenariats en Angleterre avec Plastic Energie sur une technologie de recyclage par pyrolyse, c’est une manière de traiter les déchets à chaud pour les retravailler. Ils vont vite et c’est un signe important pour cette industrie, car en Europe, on souffre depuis des années du départ en Asie des grands chimistes. Donc c’est intéressant d’avoir une société d’ancrage européen pour traiter ces grands sujets », explique-t-il. Anobli Sir James Arthur Ratcliffe, ce sportif infatigable, qui est même parti en expédition sur les pôles Nord et Sud avec son père, continue d’élargir son empire. Il a racheté le club de football du FC Lausanne en 2018, l’OGC Nice et l’équipe cycliste SKY, remportant le Tour de France en 2019. Il a aussi investi 110 millions d’euros dans l’équipe de voile Ineos Team UK et ambitionne de remporter la Coupe de l’America en 2021.

Le Salon mondial de l’automobile organisé à Pékin a ouvert au public depuis lundi et c'est déjà un succès. Les constructeurs européens se réjouissent de l'ouverture du Salon mondial de l'automobile à Pékin. Alors qu’ils sont en plein marasme chez eux, ils produisent de plus en plus dans les usines chinoises. Y compris pour desservir leur marché historique. Plusieurs d’entre eux ont annoncé des projets d’usines dans l'empire du milieu destinées à répondre en priorité aux besoins de leurs clients européens. D’après les projections du cabinet IHS Markit, cela aura un impact très net sur les importations de voitures chinoises en Europe. Elles sont aujourd’hui anecdotiques mais elles devraient monter en puissance dans les cinq prochaines années. En 2025, 400 000 voitures sortant des ateliers de l'usine du monde seront livrées dans l’espace européen. Soit un véhicule importé sur dix. Et cette vague sera surtout alimentée par des marques européennes. Á partir de l'an prochain, Renault veut produire en Chine sa Dacia Spring électrique, BMW sa Mini électrique et Daimler la Smart jusqu'alors fabriquée en France sur le site de Hambach, en Lorraine. Les gouvernements appellent les industriels à relocaliser, mais les constructeurs européens continuent à mondialiser leur production En Europe, ils poursuivent leur vaste plan de rationalisation des coûts tout en se redéployant ailleurs, dans d’autres pays. En France, Renault a prévu un plan d’économies portant sur 4 600 emplois. Un plan rejeté mardi par tous les syndicats. Et en même temps la marque au losange annonce l’arrivée prochaine sur le marché européen de son SUV Arkana qui sera monté en Corée du Sud. Une vaste restructuration de l'industrie automobile est aussi en cours en Allemagne. Man, le fabricant de camions appartenant au groupe Volkswagen, veut supprimer le quart de ses emplois, soit 9 500 postes. L’abandon de l’usine mosellane de Smart par Daimler, le retrait de Honda du marché européen complètent ce tableau bien sombre de l’industrie automobile, mais un tableau incomplet selon Denis Schemoul. L’analyste de IHS souligne qu’il y a aussi en Europe des créations d’usine sur le créneau du haut de gamme, citant Porsche et Tesla en Allemagne. Et une relocalisation sur le sol européen des activités stratégiques, comme la batterie électrique. Et elle pourrait même renouer avec les records d’exportation des années 2013 et 2017, avec des ventes annuelles de l’ordre de 4 millions de véhicules.  En revanche, l’assemblage et le montage sont délocalisés au besoin dans les pays où les coûts sont les plus avantageux Mardi, c'était en Turquie ou au Maroc, aujourd'hui c'est en Chine. C'est là-bas que les Européens veulent fabriquer un véhicule électrique d’entrée de gamme pour le proposer à un prix abordable en Europe. Et éventuellement aux clients chinois s’ils sont preneurs. Car le premier marché automobile mondial demeure très attractif. Alors que les ventes mondiales dégringoleront cette année de 20%, les ventes chinoises ne reculeront que de 9% et le marché chinois aura complètement récupéré le niveau de 2019 d’ici deux ans d’après Standard & Poor’s. Un baume pour tous les constructeurs en difficulté dans leur pays d’origine présents en Chine. Die Frage ist nur, was daraus entsteht. #Erich ist der Meinung, dass wir uns aus einer rein profitorientierten, kapitalistischen #Wettbewerbsgesellschaft raus entwickeln müssen, hin zu einer gemeinwohl- und ökonomischorientierten #Kooperationsgesellschaft, in welcher mit erheblich weniger Aufwand mehr Ertrag und #Sicherheit für alle erzeugt werden kann. In this episode, Cody has a conversation with his wife, Carrie Hambach. This episode was Carrie’s idea. She’s an avid listener of the podcast, and she’s been telling Cody that he needs to put himself out there more, that he needs to reciprocate more with guests. For the record, Cody says the reason he doesn't usually put himself out there in these conversations, is because they aren’t about him, they’re about the guests and their stories and their experiences. At any rate, he was all for having a conversation with Carrie. Carrie has been there since the beginning of Crude, and is just as much responsible for any of its success as Cody is. She has always been on the Crude masthead as Managing Editor, because, as they joke, she manages him, the editor. But realistically, she does so much more. She has always proofread and given feedback on his articles, she helps with business decisions, and she’s always there to suggest questions, and give praise and constructive criticism about the podcast. Everything she does adds more perspective and ultimately makes the content better.  On October 25th, 2013, she packed Cody a lunch and wrote him a letter on the day he was quitting his job at the time, so that he could work on Crude full-time. In that letter, she said, “Happy Friday, Codeman. I know it’s a bit scary for both of us to be so financially unstable at the moment, but I know deep down this was the right thing for you to do. Tesla has been talking to the Chinese manufacturer for more than a year to supply LFP batteries that will be cheaper than its existing batteries by a “double-digit percent”"   Some context on the timeline, on 5th November 2019 Bloomberg reported: "Tesla Inc. has reached a preliminary agreement to start using CATL as a battery supplier for cars made in China from as early as next year"   https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-11-05/tesla-is-said-to-reach-preliminary-battery-supply-deal-with-catl   On 3rd February InsideEVs said: "Reuters reported that Tesla added two EV lithium-ion cell battery suppliers to the equation: LG Chem and CATL. (CATL), China's largest automotive lithium-ion battery maker, unveiled its focus on the development of cell-to-pack (CTP) batteries to improve efficiency and lower costs. To safely and efficiently manage the battery cells mounted in an electric vehicle (EV), battery cells are installed in modules and packs. Generally, a cluster of cells make up a module and a cluster of modules make up a pack. Ultimately, each electric vehicle is installed with one pack. CTP, the company's latest product platform, skips the process of battery modules and allows cells to be directly integrated into packs. CATL can increase mass-energy density by 10 to 15 percent, improve volume utilization efficiency by 15 to 20 percent and reduce the amount of parts for battery packs by 40 percent. A CTP battery can increase the system energy density from 180 Wh/kg to more than 200 Wh/kg. LFP is less expensive and longer lasting than NCA and NMC and - though less energy dense - has easily enough energy for Model 3 SR+ 250 miles range. LFP has lithium, iron, phosphate, oxygen, and often a bit of manganese. All of these are unconstrained minerals. Only slight challenge is for lithium mining to ramp/scale match the growing demand (no inherent bottleneck). Others very abundant.   No nickel in LFP cells. No cobalt either.   James Frith JamesTFrith You could probably fit a 50kWh LFP pack in there. LFP pack would be ~11% heavier, which would have a bit of an impact on range but not too much and would be cheaper.   Simon Moores @sdmoores While LFP lithium ion batteries are heavier & lower range, it’s a sensible cost move for Tesla EVs made and used in China.   CADILLAC ELECTRIC CROSSOVER WILL BE REVEALED IN APRIL "Cadillac will unveil a midsize electric crossover in April, brand President Steve Carlisle told dealers at the National Auto Dealer Association (NADA) Convention Monday. The new crossover will be Cadillac's first all-electric vehicle." reports Autoblog: "Early last year, Cadillac teased the new midsized crossover, telling us to expect it to come in two- and four-wheel-drive flavors and to be offered as a global model. Hambach Castle stands on a hill above the sea of vines along the Wine Route. In 1832 the Hambach Festival, a milestone in the democratic movement in Germany, took place there.

Innenminister Herbert Reul (CDU) steckt in der Klemme: Er hatte vor einem Jahr den Einsatz am Hambacher Forst zu verantworten. Die Räumung der illegalen Aktivisten-Baumhäuser wurde vom größten Polizeieinsatz der Landesgeschichte begleitet. Kritiker werfen der Landesregierung bis heute vor, damit Tagebaubetreiber RWE die Möglichkeit gegeben zu haben, Fakten zu schaffen. Sprich, den Forst abzuholzen bevor er vielleicht doch noch via Bundespolitik Schutz bekommt. Die Landesregierung dementiert bis heute - allen voran Herbert Reul - allein im Willen des RWE gehandelt zu haben. Man wollte damals schlicht Recht durchsetzen. Doch auch zwölf Monate später tauchen immer wieder Details auf, die das alles infrage stellen. Besonders, wenn Reul selber einräumen muss, zu Treffen mit RWE-Vertretern nicht immer auf der Höhe der eigenen Erinnerung gewesen zu sein. Christoph Ullrich diskutiert mit Bettina Altenkamp und Jochen Trum am Beispiel Herbert Reuls, wie sich die Landesregierung selber in eine Zwickmühle argumentiert hat und warum in diesem Fall der Politikertypus Reul Fluch und Segen für die Krisen-PR von Schwarz-Gelb ist. In this conversation we ask about the effectiveness of the #August21 2018 Nationwide Prisoner Strike, the push to move prisoners under storm threat as these increase under climate change, repression and changes in response to the strike, mail limitations in PA prisons, standardization of increased security in Ohio, outside support and organizing, critiques of the methods of NPS2018, and more. The clearing of the ancient forest is to create the largest open-pit lignite coal mine in Europe on behalf of the corporation RWE, which sells to Netherlands, Germany & the UK. Lignite has a carbon content of around 60-70%, has a low energy yield, and is responsible for 1/3 of CO2 emissions in Germany. This segment shows up in the November 2018 episode of B(A)DNews, Angry Voices from Around The World from the A-Radio Network, of which we're a proud member. Local Doxxings Within the last week, over 15 people were doxxed by white supremacists in our community. Here is most of a collective statement released a day or two after the fact by some of those folks: They've targeted more than twenty people they believe are involved in anti-racist organizing in North Carolina. They've posted information such as our home addresses, places of work, family members, license plates, social media profiles–whatever information they could find. They seem to be fixating on trans and nonbinary people in particular, and delight in trying to deadname and misgender us whenever possible. Some of us, and some of our family members, have received harassing messages. They wrote about us like it's some big secret that we oppose fascism, that we oppose racism, that we oppose all forms of bigotry and oppression. It's not a secret. We weren't hiding. We are not ashamed. This isn't a plea for sympathy. Our friends and immediate community have been amazing. Rather, this is a message to let you know that if you ever find yourself targeted by neo-Nazis and the far right, you are not alone. None of us need to face this rising tide of fascist scum alone. We have each other. Robert Bowers, the Pittsburgh Synagogue shooter, actively and publicly chatted with alt-right trolls who had doxxed anti-racist activists. He even discussed violence against anti-racists in our region. This is probably a good time to think seriously about your online security and that of your family members and friends. But staying safe isn't just a matter of changing your Facebook settings or making your Instagram private. It's a matter of us showing up for each other. Of us not letting them intimidate us, not letting them isolate us. Not letting them stop us from our work. Especially when the work is stopping fascism. This week, we air two segments. South Carolina Prisoner, "J" First, "J" is in segregation in a South Carolina prison. He does not give his full name or the prison he's inside for reasons of personal safety. You'll hear him share a bit about his experience of the prison strike from the inside, the repression of prisoners at his facilities, prisoner unity in the strike,the high costs of living in prison and poor quality of food and other goods available and the red herring of administration that cell phones are the cause of violence. He shares condolences for families of those who were killed at Lee Correctional, the guard-instigated violence in April that sparked the call for the Nationwide Prison Strike. J also shares his thanks of outside supporters who have demonstrated outside of his facility, IWOC in particular and those who've helped to carry prisoners words around the world. Resisting Nuclear Trash in Bure, France After that, for the bulk of the episode shares words from Daniel, who is involved in resistance to the building of a nuclear waste storage facility in the Gran Est (formerly Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine or ACAL) region near the French border with Germany. This infrastructure mega project threatens to poison the ground-water that feeds Paris, poison the ground in Gran Est and for villages like Bure where Daniel is based, and the resistance to the CIGEO storage facility has been met by harsh government repression and a heavy response police response. Daniel talks about the energy infrastructure in France, the military and colonial connection with the fuel of Uranium, comparisons to the ZAD at Notre Dame de Landes in Western France, resistance to other damaging power sources like in the Hambach Forest against a huge lignite mine in Germany and a few words about anti-pipeline struggles in the U.S. We experienced some technical difficulties during the Bure interview, so for about 15 minutes there is a buzz. Their Chief of Staff is Michael Tubbs, a former green beret who went to prison for stealing and stockpiling weapons from the US Military for the KKK, and who was integral to the violence in Charlottesville." TriPride will be held in Johnson City, TN and will march through downtown, starting at 101 Commerce Street. Tennessee LOS coordinator Tom Pierce has called for a protest to happen along the march route. Pierce helped organize a similar protest against a Pride march last June in Knoxville." "We're calling for folx to organize autonomously for this event. Defend Rashid From Transfer The prominent voice featured in last week's episode of The Final Straw, the political prisoner Kevin Rashid Johnson, is being threatened with another punitive transfer because of his organizing and speaking out. There is a hearing on Monday, September 10th in his prison in Virginia, the state in which he was captured before being transferred away. His past transfers have moved him further from his family, have resulted in beatings, medical neglect, threats, starvation other attacks by prison officials and other prisoners. It would be awesome if you, dear listener, could take a moment to call and email tomorrow starting at 9am eastern time to the official in charge of interstate compact: Chief of Corrections Operations David Robinson. Update on Harm Reduction and Food Distribution in Asheville The City of #Asheville just dropped their notice of violation against the 12 Baskets food distribution project out of the Kairos West community center, however is still retaining it's attack on Steady Collective's needle exchange, noloxin distribution and harm reduction program by an unprecedented challenge to Firestorm's hosting of the project via claiming that Firestorm is operating a homeless shelter by hosting Steady Collective. This is idiotic. Distributing harm reduction tools to the public saves lives and providing a space for people to sit, read, access reading materials and the internet does not amount to a shelter. Hambach

Erich Hambach ist einer der Organisatoren des ersten deutschen Hanfkongresses, den ich vor zwei Wochen in Grafing bei München besucht habe. Hanf ist eine der ältesten Nutzpflanzen der Menschheit. Das Papier der ersten Gutenberg-Bibel war aus Hanf gemacht, Segel und Taue wurden jahrhundertelang aus Hanffasern hergestellt, und auch die ersten Ford-Automobile hatten noch Karosserien aus Hanf. Nachdem diese Superpflanze durch systematische Verteufelung fast hundert Jahre aus unserem Alltag verschwunden war, hat seit ein paar Jahren eine Renaissance eingesetzt, die durch den Hanfkongress noch mal einen deutlichen Schub erfahren dürfte. Erich Hambach erzählt uns, welch vielfältigen Nutzen diese segensreiche Pflanze stiftet, was er sich von dem Kongress verspricht, aber auch, wie es überhaupt zur Dämonisierung des Hanfs kommen konnte.

Cette professeur de français en collège, signataire du manifeste publié sur Slate, nous explique les raisons de cette décision mais aussi le rapport entre le langage et les structures sociales. "Déjà avant, au XVIIe siècle, il y avait l'usage de la règle de proximité ou de majorité."  Né au Brésil en 2016 dans la tête de trois architectes francophones, le projet Eat & Meet est une association embauchant des personnes réfugiées en France en tant que chefs cuisiniers. Ceux-ci animent des ateliers culinaires et proposent de la cuisine de leur pays d'origine. Mais le projet est surtout pensé comme un tremplin pour l'intégration de ces personnes réfugiées. On reçoit une des trois co-fondatrices de ce projet, Marie Leglaye, qui nous en apprendra plus sur les raisons qui l'ont poussé à se lancer dans ce "food truck" solidaire qui entend également proposer des cours de français autour de la cuisine. Leur but sur le long terme ? Partir dans un bus aménagé dans toute la France pour proposer leurs activités.  "Ces personnes réfugiées ont un contrat d'intégration républicaine, et dans ce cadre ont des cours de français. Es wehte ein frischer Wind in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Die Geschäfte mit Kohle und Stahl brummten wieder, die heimische Energie war gefragt, die Arbeitslosenquote lag 1970 bei sensationellen 0,4 Prozent. Es wurde gebaut, gegründet und geplant in diesem Jahrzehnt. Man hoffte, die Krise sei ein Ausrutscher gewesen, und merkte doch bald, dass sie für viele Jahre Alltag sein würde. Bald sollte die erste große Wirtschaftskrise „Unser Land“ erschüttern. Besonders das Ruhrgebiet sollte davon betroffen sein. Im Rheinland wurde gegraben – der Braunkohletagebau in Hambach wurde in dieser Zeit das größte Loch der Welt. Mit fast 20 Fach- und Gesamthochschulen entstand eine weltweit einmalige Bildungslandschaft, darunter mit der Fernuniversität in Hagen die heute größte Universität Deutschlands. Der Strukturwandel hatte das Ruhrgebiet fest im Griff in diesen Jahren. Zechen starben, Hütten wurden geschlossen, der erste Smogalarm schockierte. Erfolgreich waren Ende der 1970er Jahre auch die größten Demonstrationen, die das Land je gesehen hatte: Zehntausende kamen nach Kalkar, um gegen die Errichtung eines Atomkraftwerks zu demonstrieren, wie sie in ganz Deutschland geplant und gebaut wurden. Nie zuvor gab es in NRW einen größeren Polizeieinsatz – doch die Demonstranten konnten nicht abgehalten werden. Während das Kraftwerk in Kalkar verhindert wurde, formierte sich eine ganz neue Bewegung, die die Umweltpolitik zum wichtigen Thema machte - die Grünen. (Online-Signatur Medienzentren: 4986619)
