Shoot us a Text.Episode #1033: Today we're talking Hyundai and Kia's red-hot April sales streak, Ford's surprise retreat from a major software project, and why most consumers still aren't sold on AI or social shopping tools.Show Notes with links:U.S. shoppers are racing to dealerships to beat rising prices from new import tariffs, driving Hyundai and Kia to record April sales as both brands notch their seventh straight month of year-over-year gains.Hyundai U.S. sales jumped 19% in April, while Kia sales rose 14%.EVs and hybrids continue to shine: Hyundai up 25%, Kia up 21%.Industrywide sales were projected to rise as much as 15% in April, though momentum cooled as the month progressed.U.S. new-vehicle inventory dropped to 2.57M units (61-day supply) in mid-April, down from 2.69M (70 days) at the start of April and 2.8M (81 days) a year ago, per Cox Automotive.“Inventory levels have declined substantially over recent weeks, likely pushing vehicle prices higher. The outlook for new-auto sales from here is more troubling,” said Cox Automotive's Charles Chesbrough.Ford has canceled its highly anticipated FNV4 electrical architecture project, once billed as key to competing with EV pioneers like Tesla. The move underscores the uphill battle legacy automakers face in modernizing vehicle software.FNV4 aimed to unify software across gas and electric models, cutting costs and boosting update speed. The project was scrapped due to cost overruns and delays, after contributing to nearly $10B in software and EV losses over two years.CEO Jim Farley admitted Ford's current system relies on code from 150 suppliers—creating major barriers to quality and speed.Ford is shifting focus to a California-based skunkworks team developing affordable EVs and advanced software.“The only strategic advantage any company can have is speed,” said Caresoft Global's Terry Woychowski.New data shows a growing divide in how U.S. consumers view tech-driven shopping. KPMG's summer 2025 survey suggests widespread hesitation toward AI and social commerce—while Capgemini sees signs of rising adoption, especially among Gen Z.63% of consumers haven't used AI shopping tools and don't plan to, per KPMG; 56% say the same for social shopping.Shoppers say they prefer doing their own research and aren't swayed by online ads—especially when privacy and data usage are involved. In contrast, Capgemini reports nearly 60% of consumers now use generative AI in place of traditional search, and a third shop directly via social media.Gen Z bucks the trend: over half have made purchases via social platforms, and TikTok shoppers spent an average of $708 on the app last year.“The visual nature of fashion makes it a perfect fit for platforms like Instagram and TikTok,” said KPMG's Sam Ganga, urginJoin Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/

The Gold Star Ride Foundation will actively support, comfort and provide education benefits to Gold Star Families throughout the United States and will provide these things directly with personal visits via motorcycle; and we will support those other organizations that work to assist in these same activities. We do the work that our fallen heroes would do it they hadn't fallen for all our freedom. In 2016, The Gold Star Ride Foundation began with a simple idea: Remember the families of the fallen. Now we are approaching the end of our seventh year of doing just that. We met Joe, who didn't know he was a Gold Star Dad, when he stopped to help us with a broken motorcycle near the New York state line. We met Mary, who was told she didn't earn a Gold Star because her daughter, a US Marine, was killed when the Humvee, in which she was training, rolled over and killed her. "They" said she wasn't a Gold Star Mom. We said she was. We met a 12 year old who never got to know his dad. We did what his dad would have done, and helped with tuition. We helped more than 60 families in 2018, when we met with them in person on our national motorcycle Ride for Gold Star Families. In 2019, we logged another 15,000 miles or so, raising the number of families that we helped to nearly 100! In 2020, 2021, and so far in 2022, we've continued to meet with families. We've now met with more than 450. Sometimes, all we had to do was show up. Sometimes, we paid the rent so a family who had given a life for all of us to be free would not go homeless. In one case, we got a house for a homeless family. In another case, we found nursing care for an aging Gold Star Dad. Another family said they didn't want anything, but we filled their refrigerator and helped them get some new clothes. Yet another Gold Star Family received a grant to help them get a new car. The Gold Star Ride Foundation averages 10 Gold Star Families a month, every month. And we have honored families made Gold Star by every conflict since WWII. We are not bogged down by red tape. If there is a need for a Gold Star Family, we do all we can to fill it. We try to do it on a motorcycle, so we can meet the family in person, and make some noise with our bikes. We keep working. With your continued support, we will meet everyone's needs. If you know a family, tell them about us. We do not seek to violate the privacy of any Gold Star Family, and we are here to help. Half or more of the families we met requested that we keep it quiet. We're happy to do that. As you know, The Gold Star Ride Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization, which works to honor and support Gold Star Families across the United States. In 2020, 73% of ALL CONTRIBUTIONS went directly to helping Gold Star Families: during Covid. In 2021, we made it to 78%. In 2022, we hit 82.1% of all money coming in going out. But our goal is 85% or better. By comparison, WWP collected $287.6M and paid out $57M in grants, while another $75.6M went to corporate salaries, which translates to less than 20% of their money paid to veterans. This information was taken from their TAX RETURN. Their website, by contrast, says they spent $197M on veterans. That's a 140 Million Dollar difference. Should you believe them (what their website says), or them (what their tax return says), because they can't both be right, can they? Folds of Honor, according to their tax documents, collected $35M in contributions and paid out $16M in grants to vets families and $5M in corporate salaries which translates to a little over 40% going to help the families they say they support and nearly 15% going into their pockets. How is it that we can put 78% out to the families during a Covid year when all income was down? Simple. We are all volunteers. We have no internal salaries to support. (Incidentally, the executive director of the Gold Star Ride Foundation is, himself, a disabled warrior. When applying for benefits from WWP, he was summarily denied any help because he served during the First Gulf War (Dessert Storm). Apparently, you have to have served after 9/11 to qualify.) After five years of riding, the Gold Star Ride Foundation has logged over 123,000 miles on a motorcycle; we've stopped in all 48 of the lower United States at least 4 times each; we've crashed twice; and We've personally met with 498 Gold Star Families. That's an average of 100 per year; nearly 10 per month - that we've met in person. Imagine what it is like to personally meet 10 people every month who you have never met before, who have all suffered a death in the family, and you are there to remember that fallen hero. Stories Featured– I-380 interchange project receives $57M boost from feds– Dietitian weighs in on holiday feasting– Curious Iowa: Are local animal shelters considered no-kill?Episode TranscriptYou are listening to The Gazette's Daily News Podcast on Monday, December 11, 2023. On this podcast, we give you quick bites from the latest headlines coming out of The Gazette newsroom. I'm Bailey Cichon filling in for Stephen Schmidt. The reconstruction of the Interstate 380 interchange with Wright Brothers Boulevard is fully funded after receiving $57.3 million in federal infrastructure funding.According to reporting from The Gazette's Erin Murphy, the projected $112 million project would widen the interstate to six lanes from the north ramps of the Swisher interchange to south of U.S. Highway 30. Also, the Wright Brothers Boulevard interchange would be reconfigured to include a diverging diamond interchange. This would be a wider but similar interchange to the one that opened at Tower Terrace Road and I-380.The Wright Brothers Boulevard interchange is the main exit to the Eastern Iowa Airport. The area is rapidly growing due to a boom in manufacturing, warehouses and homes.Iowa DOT District 6 transportation planner Catherine Cutler told The Gazette earlier this year, quote, “The city plans for industrial and commercial growth around the airport, and we wanted to get ahead of that growth.” end quote.Bids will be considered in mid-2024 with construction beginning as soon as late summer 2024. Project completion is slated for 2027.Find the full story at thegazette.com. There's a link to the story in this episode's description. As winter holidays draw near, The Gazette's Diana Nollen spoke with Hy-Vee dietitian Stephanie Vande Brake about indulging in the festive flavors, managing cravings and understanding the science behind nutrition.Eating a lot of starches or sweets causes blood sugars to rise and then what feels like a crash happens.Vande Brake said when blood sugar gets low, quote,”Our body secretes hormones to tell our brain to crave more of those high calories foods. So when we're having these big swings in blood sugar, biologically, that is why we experience really intense cravings and hunger.” end quoteVande Brake said balanced blood sugar can prevent intense cravings. She recommends not eating sweets on an empty stomach to avoid having a crash.Read The Gazette's full interview with Vande Brake at thegazette.com or follow the link in this episode description. This week's edition of Curious Iowa answers a question from Gazette reader Rene Anderson. Anderson has worked and volunteered for multiple animal shelters in the area. Anderson asked The Gazette whether Eastern Iowa's animal shelters are considered no-kill and how they work toward that goal. »Elon Musk a répondu. . . In Today's Episode with Alex Bouaziz We Discuss: 1.) From Student in London to Decacorn Founder: How Alex made his way into the world of startups and how he came up with the idea for Deel? Did Alex always know he would be successful when he was growing up? What does Alex know now that he wishes he had known when he was starting? 2.) The Importance of Execution: How important does Alex think speed of execution is for startups? What can startups do to deliberately increase their speed of execution? How does Alex think about the dilemma of losing quality with speed? What does Alex think you do need to go slow on to ensure it is perfect? How does Alex think about focus and prioritisation today with Deel? 3.) Scaling to $295M in ARR in 3 Years: When did Alex know he had true product-market fit with Deel? How did Alex use a 50-person Whatsapp group to both determine product market fit and to navigate product direction for the company? What was the key to Deel's blitz scaling strategy? What worked? What did not work? How did Alex hire 2,000 people in such a short space of time? What broke first in the organisation? How could they have prevented it? 4.) Secondaries, Angel Investing and Wealth Management: How much did Alex take out in secondaries in the last round of funding? How did Alex determine how much cash to allocate to angel investing? Why does Alex believe most founders make poor angel investments when they have cash? What have been Alex's biggest lessons from investing? How has it changed how he operates? Why should all founders be super transparent in investor updates?

2021 was a turning point for public education in America. Remote learning revealed to parents what public schools were force-feeding their kids — everything from critical race theory to the existence of infinite genders — while performance in subjects like math and reading fell across the board. Now, school boards and teachers' unions are facing a tidal wave of parents who want to take the reins back. But school wasn't always like this. Glenn takes us back to a time before the Department of Education and asks the question: “Are our schools getting better or worse?” American Federation for Children senior fellow Corey DeAngelis joins to expose who's actually benefitting from our public school system — and it's not our kids. And former Secretary of Education under President Trump Betsy DeVos explains why it's time to abolish the department she once headed, what stopped her from doing so, and how parents can make a big difference. #blazetv #glennbeck #glenntv Watch this special for free at- https://youtu.be/sMVftprHv84 Why We Must ABOLISH the Department of Education NOW. Jason Fladlien is known in many circles as the $100 Million Dollar Webinar Man. And rightfully so, as he's sold well over that amount using his webinar techniques! But that's not all. Jason has shattered records and risen to the top of several industries including information products, software, coaching, consulting, speaking and eCommerce. Joe Polish of Genius Network refers to him as “one of the top 5 living marketers on the planet.” As the Chief Strategy Officer and Co-Founder of Rapid Crush, Inc., Jason has helped countless businesses use and improve their webinars to the tune of 7, 8, and even 9 figure wins. For many online businesses, he's their secret weapon for marketing success. In this episode, I'm speaking with Jason about his most recent success story—a $57M product launch in the Crypto space. Jason breaks down a complete play-by-play of how he executed the launch, including the simple, yet highly effective marketing techniques he used along the way. What's crazy about this story is how Jason was able to get buy-in from people with a product that not only had an initial price tag of $10,000, but involved a high degree of uncertainty, required buyers to sign a NDA, and had no refund policy or guarantee. He basically removed ALL risk, while simultaneously building incredible demand and excitement for the product. Oh yah, and if that wasn't impressive enough, he spent $0 on paid advertising, had no sales page, and only sold through webinars! You'll hear just how remarkable of a marketer Jason is after listening to this interview—and you'll walk away with a ton of actionable marketing strategies you can implement into your next product launch! welcome to the nonlinear library, where we use text-to-speech software to convert the best writing from the rationalist and ea communities into audio. this is: Rethink Priorities 2020 Impact and 2021 Strategy, published by Marcus_A_Davis on the effective altruism forum. Write a Review Summary Rethink Priorities is an EA research organization focused on influencing funders and key decision-makers to improve decisions within EA and EA-aligned organizations. This year we expanded our operations team and hired multiple researchers across multiple causes, allowing us to expand and improve our animal welfare and EA movement building work, and build a dedicated longtermism team. Rethink Priorities currently has a staff of 16 people, corresponding to 13 full-time equivalents (including 3 FTE operations staff). This year we spent 72% of our time working on research relevant to farmed and wild animal welfare, 9% on movement building, 8% on longtermism, and 11% on other research projects. By the end of the year, we'll have spent about $833K in 2020. We track our impact in multiple ways. This year we found qualitative interviews with key decision makers and leaders at EA organizations particularly helpful in understanding how to improve. Given the feedback we've received, we think two areas for improvement are more focus on communication with key funders and groups and also improving the visual communication of our work. Over the next few years we plan to expand our work in animal welfare, relaunch our work in longtermism, and continue our work in movement building. We continue to be constrained by a lack of funding to hire talented researchers and execute promising projects, having to turn down or delay very high-value projects. In particular, our non-animal growth is constrained by depending too heavily on EA Funds. We would strongly benefit from new individual donors to support our work and diversify our funder base. If funded we would hire 1-2 additional researchers to tackle our ambitious research agenda and the opportunities we have to work with more groups. We would also create an intern program. In addition to resulting in additional directly valuable research, this program would also benefit both our future growth and the growth of other EA-aligned research efforts, by helping us identify new talented researchers, helping them build their skills, and helping our existing staff develop their management skills. Currently, our goal is to raise $1.57M by the end of 2021. This consists of gaps of $757K for animal research, $503K for longtermism research, $261K for meta and movement building, and $46K for other research. We do accept and track restricted funds by cause area if that is of interest. If you'd like to support our work, you can donate to us as part of Facebook's donation matching on Giving Tuesday or donate directly to us here. If you're interested in supporting our work with a major gift, contact Director of Development Janique Behman. Our Mission Our mission is to help funders make better grants and help organizations do higher impact work. We accomplish this by doing and communicating research that analyzes existing interventions, broadens and refines the scope of possible consideration, and deepens our understanding of what interventions are possible and effective. Rethink Priorities Theory of Change Organizational Structure Staff Over the course of 2020, we made a number of hires to improve our team. Thanks to support in 2019, Peter Hurford, Co-Executive Director, became full-time in March 2020, and in May we hired a Director of Operations, Abraham Rowe. Janique Behman joined as our Director of Development in November 2020. We also expanded our research team, hiring five researchers (~3.75 FTE) to continue and expand our work across animal welfare, movement building, and longtermism.[1] Michael Aird - Associate Researcher - Previously did longtermist and macrostrategy research for Convergence Analysis and the Center...

In episode 47 of The Fanboy Garage, we immediate unpack the week's box office results, as John Wick 3 effective dismantles Avengers: Endgame, with a franchise record opening weekend of $57M. From there we enter the batcave, addressing the rumors that Robert Pattinson, famous for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight Franchise, will be the next in line to don the cape and cowl. Do we think he's the right choice? After that discussion, we talk about the wild and somewhat expected fan reaction to the Game of Thrones finale and speculate what this could potentially mean for the next round of Star Wars films coming after The Rise of Skywalker. To close, we share our impressions on the second season of Cobra Kai. Is it totally badass or weak? We show no mercy with a light spoilers and reactions.
