Amanda Cupido doesn't speak Spanish or French. But using AI, she and her team helped a global nonprofit make their internal podcast more accessible to as many employees as possible. Amanda is an audio producer and the founder of a production company called Lead Podcasting. One of her clients is a global nonprofit with over 35,000 employees—and not all of them speak English. So she made them a pitch: what if they added AI into the mix? They would make the podcast in English, and then use generative AI voice tools to translate it into Spanish and French—with a lot of human oversight, of course. If you say you don't want to be political, it's often because the system is already working for you. For those of us who've had to fight for flexibility, access, or equity—that's never been an option.   The Privilege of Silence When someone says, “I don't do politics,” what they're really saying is that they're comfortable with the way things are. That comfort signals that their own ease matters more than the discomfort others experience under the same system. For many people—including me—that kind of silence has never been an option.   Personal Experience When I became a parent, I had no choice but to advocate for more flexibility in my work life. The traditional nine-to-five structure simply didn't accommodate what my family needed. My husband's self-employment gave us some breathing room, but it still wasn't an ideal solution. I had to push against systems that weren't built with me—or families like mine—in mind.   The Political Nature of Advocacy And that's the thing: standing up for what you need, especially when it's outside the norm, is inherently political. Asking for flexibility, becoming a subject matter expert, speaking out publicly—these are all political acts. Women, in particular, have historically carried the burden of caregiving, yet we've rarely been the dominant power in politics. That makes our voices not just necessary, but radical.   Historical Context We can't forget the barriers women have faced: being denied property rights, financial independence, even basic autonomy. These aren't ancient struggles—they've shifted within living memory. Cindy Gallup often reminds us, “Women are not the status quo because women have never been the status quo.” That line sticks with me, because it captures how much work still lies ahead.   My Work and Its Political Nature The work I do today sits at the intersections of real estate, technology, policy, and community—and all of those domains are deeply political. To engage in them is to challenge entrenched systems, to question who benefits, and to advocate for something better. Conclusion So when someone says they'd rather not be political, what they're really saying is that the system as it stands already benefits them. My own experiences—raising a family in both Canada while working cross-border with the U.S.—have shown me again and again the importance of speaking up, not just for myself, but for those who can't. Very few people get paid to visit shipwrecks—but for Stephanie Gandulla, it's all part of the job. Stephanie is a scuba diver, maritime archeologist, and resource protection coordinator for the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. The agency safeguards Lake Huron's historic shipwrecks, many of which have yet to be discovered. That's where Katie Skinner comes in. She's an assistant professor at the University of Michigan and the director of the school's Field Robotics Group. Skinner and her team have been developing autonomous underwater vehicles that can find new shipwreck sites, all on their own. For humans, a search is costly, time-consuming, manual work. But for AI? ATVISIO-Geschäftsführer Peter Bluhm hatte die Gelegenheit, mit einem der weltweit einflussreichsten Managementdenker zu sprechen: Prof. Dr. Hermann Simon, der einzige Deutsche in der „Thinkers50 Hall of Fame“. In der neuesten Folge des Performance Manager Podcasts diskutiert Peter Bluhm mit dem Chairman von Simon-Kucher & Partners über dessen neues Werk „Simon sagt! Was im Management wirklich zählt“ und erhält exklusive Einblicke in vier Jahrzehnten Beratungspraxis.  Das Buch hinter dem Gespräch  „Simon sagt!“ ist kein klassisches Managementbuch. Es entstand aus Notizen, die Hermann Simon über Jahrzehnte in Hotelzimmern, an Flughäfen und zwischen Beratungsterminen gesammelt hat. Das 352-seitige Werk behandelt 23 verschiedene Managementthemen. Von Führung über Digitalisierung bis hin zu Preisstrategien.  Führung bleibt ein Rätsel  Warum bleibt Führung trotz unzähliger Seminare und Bücher „ein mysteriöses Phänomen“? Hermann Simon erklärt sein Konzept der „zweimal geborenen“ Führer. Das sind Menschen, die zwar in Organisationen arbeiten, aber „nicht wirklich dazugehören“. Diese bewusste Distanz hilft ihnen dabei, Veränderungen anzustoßen, wo andere alles beim Alten lassen.  Bemerkenswert: Seine 10 Führungsthesen aus dem Jahr 2000 könnte er heute „nahezu unverändert“ vortragen. Eine davon sagte voraus, dass „Unternehmensführung der Führung in Freiwilligenorganisationen ähnlicher“ wird. Das war eine gewagte Prognose, die sich heute bestätigt hat - junge Talente suchen nach Purpose und Sinn in ihrer Arbeit.  Visionen versus Prognosen  Simon zeigt einen interessanten Widerspruch auf: Nur 15 Prozent aller Prognosen treffen ein, die Hälfte liegt „völlig daneben“. Trotzdem betont er die Macht von Visionen – wenn man sie aufschreibt, werden sie eher verwirklicht. Sind Visionen also etwas anderes als Prognosen? Simon erklärt dies am Beispiel von Werner Siemens, der als 17-Jähriger von „einem Weltgeschäfte à la Fugger“ träumte und diesen Traum später verwirklichte. Für Business Intelligence-Experten wie ATVISIO zeigt sich hier: Daten liefern Fakten, aber Visionen schaffen Zukunft.  Digitalisierung und verschenkte Chancen  Die Corona-Pandemie zeigte ein erstaunliches Phänomen: Technologien, die 20 Jahre lang ungenutzt blieben, wurden plötzlich zum Standard. Remote Work, digitale Zusammenarbeit, virtuelle Meetings – all das war längst verfügbar. Aber erst ein externer Schock führte dazu, dass alle diese Tools nutzen. Die Parallele zu Business Intelligence-Projekten ist offensichtlich: Wie viele andere technische Möglichkeiten lassen wir heute ungenutzt?  Besonders schwierig wird es bei künstlicher Intelligenz. CFOs und IT-Verantwortliche müssen heute Millionen in KI-Systeme investieren. Aber selbst Experten geben zu: „Es ist unmöglich zu sagen, wo wir in fünf oder zehn Jahren stehen.“ Simon beschreibt Experimente, bei denen ChatGPT Preisanalysen für Zahnpasta erstellt – mit durchaus brauchbaren Ergebnissen. Revolutioniert KI die Marktforschung oder ist das naive Technik-Euphorie?  Pricing als Königsdisziplin  Hermann Simon ist weltweiter Pricing-Experte und erklärt die Geheimnisse kontinuierlicher Preissteigerungen. Gillette schaffte es, mit jeder neuen Rasierergeneration deutlich höhere Preise durchzusetzen – für im Grunde dieselbe Funktion. Das Geheimnis liegt in der geschickten Kombination aus Innovation, Marketing und Wertkommunikation.  Gleichzeitig stellt Simon fest: Unternehmen kennen zwar die Weisheit „Den Preis vergisst man, die Qualität bleibt“. Trotzdem haben sie oft Schwierigkeiten, höhere Preise für höhere Qualität durchzusetzen. Aus vier Jahrzehnten Beratungspraxis hat Simon universelle Pricing-Prinzipien entwickelt – von der Kunst der Basarhändler bis hin zur BahnCard als Meisterstück der Preisdifferenzierung.  Das ewige Dilemma  Simon nennt das „ewige Dilemma zwischen Preis und Wachstum“ die „unternehmerische Herausforderung schlechthin“. Höhere Preise steigern den Gewinn, bremsen aber das Wachstum. Niedrigere Preise fördern das Wachstum, schaden aber der Marge.
