How to Prioritize Your TimeWelcome to Outside the Treatment Room, the podcast that explores the business side of the beauty industry! I'm your host, Connie Holm. Today, we're tackling a topic every business owner faces: prioritizing your tasks. With a long to-do list, it's easy to get overwhelmed, but knowing what's most important can make all the difference.Episode HighlightsUnderstanding the Importance of GoalsEvery task has a purpose. By focusing on clear business goals—whether it's growing your client base, increasing revenue, or planning a sale—you can identify the tasks that truly drive your success. My current priority? Prepping for Black Friday, my spa's biggest sale event of the year!Tools and Techniques for PrioritizationThere are several methods to help prioritize, including:The Eisenhower Matrix: Helps categorize tasks by urgency and importance.Visual Aids: Tools like Notion, sticky notes, or a simple notebook to track and cross off tasks. The “One Thing” Rule: Focus on completing one impactful task at a time to gain momentum.Time Blocking and Task BatchingSetting aside specific time blocks for focused work (like creating content or administrative tasks) and grouping similar tasks together can maximize productivity. For instance, I dedicate time blocks to prepare all social media posts for the week and focus solely on my Black Friday marketing during specific hours.Delegation and OutsourcingDon't be afraid to get help! Delegating tasks that don't require your expertise, such as hiring a virtual assistant or getting help with storage organization, can free up mental space and reduce stress. Outsourcing can be a game-changer for both personal and business tasks.Review and AdaptPriorities shift as new challenges and opportunities arise. At the start or end of each week, take time to review your list, update it based on your current goals, and stay flexible. Adapting ensures you stay on track and keep your stress levels in check.Quote of the Episode"Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important." — Stephen CoveyThank you for tuning into Outside the Treatment Room! Rob Broadhead and Michael Meloche host Episode 7 of Building Better Developers. They explore how to Breaking Things Down for Success. Their discussion centers on maintaining a personal backlog. This practical tool helps streamline both project management and professional growth. Through real examples, they demonstrate how this approach enhances productivity. Breaking Down Projects into Manageable Chunks Rob discusses how breaking things down can make overwhelming tasks more achievable. The hosts suggest starting with identifying core project elements. For developers, they recommend breaking features into backend, frontend, and testing components. Breaking down work helps maintain momentum and creates a systematic approach. This method prevents developers from feeling overwhelmed while ensuring thorough completion. Creating a Personal Backlog for Better Task Management The concept of a “personal backlog” is introduced as a way to stay organized and focused. The backlog serves as a repository for tasks that need to be completed but aren't necessarily urgent. This approach helps ensure that, even if a task isn't immediately tackled, it won't fall through the cracks. Rob suggests regularly updating and consulting this backlog to prioritize tasks effectively. This makes it easier to pull items for daily or weekly to-do lists. Building Daily Lists by Breaking Things Down Another critical aspect discussed is the habit of making daily lists of actionable tasks. Rob and Michael recommend creating focused daily task lists with three to five items. They compare this practice to meal prepping, where planning prevents wasted effort. Breaking down weekly tasks in advance leads to smoother project execution. This approach helps developers maintain focus and avoid getting sidetracked. Proper planning eliminates unnecessary steps and improves overall efficiency. Michael explains how backlogs help manage extended projects effectively. Developers can build focused to-do lists from their backlog items. This method allows for flexible scheduling while maintaining project order. The approach prevents common mistakes like tackling tasks in the wrong sequence. Estimating and Prioritizing Tasks by Breaking Them Down Rob and Michael discuss the importance of estimating task sizes for better time management. Breaking tasks into smaller pieces helps create more accurate time estimates. They recommend mixing small and medium tasks throughout the day. Larger tasks should be saved for periods of uninterrupted focus. Using the Pomodoro Technique for Focused Task Completion The hosts recommend using the Pomodoro technique to manage coding sessions effectively. Work intervals of 25 minutes are followed by short breaks. This method helps developers maintain focus and prevent burnout. Even brief breaks can boost productivity during intense coding work. Integrating Testing by Breaking Down QA Tasks Michael emphasizes testing throughout each project phase instead of leaving it until the end. He recommends adding testing tasks directly into the project backlog. This ensures quality checks become a natural part of development. Regular testing helps verify each phase meets requirements. Weekly Challenge: Breaking Things Down to Build Better Habits Rob challenges listeners to start using backlogs and break down their weekly tasks. Creating manageable daily lists should become a consistent habit. Regular backlog updates help maintain steady progress. This approach prevents burnout while keeping development work efficient and sustainable. Rob and Michael invite listeners to share their task management experiences online. They emphasize starting with small, consistent improvements. These daily steps help developers build better work habits. Good task management leads to increased focus and development success. Now we will explore some practical tips and techniques to overcome procrastination and boost productivity in our lives. This is a mixture of practical things we can do each day along with some mental shifts and changes that can help us beat procrastination in our lives.Creating a Productive Work EnvironmentHow you behave is deeply influenced by where you are and what you're surrounded by.The environment in which we work can have a significant impact on our ability to stay focused and motivated. You want your environment to be a tactical advantage for you.Start by removing any potential distractions from your workspace.Minimize the distractions.Find a separate place to do deeper workMake your workspace comfortable and visually appealing.Setting Realistic Goals and DeadlinesGoals are a tool to help you focus on moving in the right direction, not an intimidating barrier to keep you from taking a first step.Clear goals give directionWithout a clear sense of direction, it's easy to get overwhelmed and lose motivation.Realistic Goals Give motivationYour goal can be specific, but impossible. We can't mistake goals for dreams. Your goals are stepping stones toward achieving God-given dreams.Dreaming is good, but when it comes to focusing your actions today, you need something a bit more practical.Great goals are scalableBy breaking down your larger goals into smaller, more manageable projects and tasks, you can bring a sense of urgency and purpose to the behavior of today. When setting deadlines, be honest with yourself about how long tasks will take.It can be helpful to use a planner or digital calendar to schedule your tasks and deadlines.Prioritizing Tasks and Managing Time EffectivelyAs we said in episode 211, prioritizing your goals and tasks is not the same as procrastinating.Life will always want more from you, so you have to learn to develop a way of filtering between worthwhile pursuits and distractions.Effective task management is crucial for overcoming procrastination and maximizing productivitySimple Task Management: The Eisenhower MatrixStart by listing all your tasks and then categorize them into one of four quadrantsImportant and urgentImportant but not urgentUrgent but not importantNot urgent or important.Focus your energy on important and urgent tasks, and delegate or eliminate tasks that are not important or urgent.Simple Time Management when there's no Motivation: The Pomodoro TechniqueThis involves breaking your work into timed intervals, typically 25 minutes of focused work followed by a short break of 5 minutes. After 4 rounds of this, you take a 25-minute break.CHALLENGE:Implement one of the 3 things first:Clear and Realistic Goal Setting (For if you lack clarity in what you're going for)Scalable Goals (semester goals, weekly goals, daily tasks) (For if you're having trouble connecting your goals with your daily activities)Implement a task management or time management system and see how it works for youEisenhower Matrix (If all your tasks are on the same level of importance in your mind)Pomodoro Technique (If you have trouble starting or pacing yourself during intense work.)Prototype and have fun experimenting!RESOURCES TO HELP YOU THRIVE AS A MAN========================

The time management hacks discussed include prioritizing tasks, setting specific goals, time blocking, using productivity tools effectively, batching similar tasks, delegating, practicing the two-minute rule, limiting distractions, scheduling regular breaks, and reflecting to adjust strategies. Ingram underscores that effectively managing how we use time rather than time itself is a vital skill that can lead to increased efficiency, productivity, and ultimately, success in both business and personal life.Chapters00:00 Introduction to Time Management for Entrepreneurs00:30 The Importance of Time in Entrepreneurship05:17 Strategies for Effective Time Management05:25 Prioritizing Tasks for Maximum Efficiency06:56 Setting Goals to Drive Success08:32 Mastering Time Blocking for Productivity12:05 Leveraging Productivity Tools15:43 Batching Tasks for Efficiency17:29 Delegating to Scale Your Business18:38 Quick Wins with the Two-Minute Rule19:31 Minimizing Distractions for Focus20:38 The Power of Regular Breaks21:40 Reflecting and Adjusting for Continuous Improvement23:02 Conclusion and Call to Action#timemanagement #timemanagementhacks #solopreneur #successmindset #successhabits #believeinyourself #businesslessons #entrepreneur #worklifebalance #successhabits #digitalbusiness #personaldevelopment #successhacks #businesslessons #lifelessons #success #entrepreneurslife #entrepreneurialmindset #entrepreneurtips #entrepreneurmind #entrepreneurmotivation #optyoumize #brettingram #digitalmarketing #onlinemarketing #digitalmarketer #entrepreneurpodcast

Sustainable Success Through Daily Discipline: Prioritizing Tasks, Overcoming Obstacles, and Building Strong Foundations for Long-Term Impact with Joseph McCormick

The Essential 11

Building a solid foundation requires consistent discipline rather than relying on fleeting bursts of motivation. By prioritizing daily habits and routines, individuals can achieve sustainable progress towards their goals. Embracing discipline cultivates resilience, perseverance, and long-term success, ensuring that aspirations are not derailed by temporary fluctuations in motivation. Joseph McCormick discusses the importance of laying a strong foundation through discipline over short-lived motivation. How to prioritize tasks each day and achieve balance across relationships, career and finances. And why developing confidence through physical challenges can help you stand up for others without proving yourself through aggression. Join in as young leaders pose inquiries about life, personal development, and beyond! Quotes: “True men don't always have to show how dangerous they are.” – Joseph McCormick “Everything in life is more about discipline than motivation. Because if you're disciplined, you're going to do it regardless of whether you're motivated or not.” – Joseph McCormick “The more you do in the business world, the more people try to eat up your time. Everybody wants your time.” – Joseph McCormick “Everything takes watering, planting, and patience. If you try to take a shortcut, you're going to kill whatever you're trying to build.” – Joseph McCormick Takeaways: Write down your top 3 priorities each day for relationships, career, and finances and ensure you accomplish these before any other tasks. Assess where you are spending the majority of your time and energy. Are you balanced across important life areas or over-invested in one? Identify a physical challenge you can take on to build confidence from the process, whether it's strength training, martial arts, or another discipline. Remember that success is built through small, consistent actions over long periods of time. Have the discipline to plant seeds daily through your priorities without expecting overnight results. Conclusion: Achieving success and making a meaningful impact requires a commitment to discipline, persistence, and maintaining focus on long-term goals. Confidence, derived from overcoming challenges and inner growth, plays a pivotal role in this. Additionally, prioritizing tasks, maintaining balance across various life domains, and seeking mentorship are essential for productivity and personal well-being. By overcoming obstacles with hard work and then sharing those experiences to uplift others, individuals can continue to grow personally and make a positive impact in their communities.

As the host of The Blogger Genius Podcast, I've had the unique opportunity to delve into the intricacies of building an online business. It's a journey filled with excitement and potential, but it's not without its challenges. One of the most significant hurdles I've faced, and I know many of you can relate to, is managing stress and maintaining a healthy mindset amidst the chaos of entrepreneurship. This is why I'm sharing my top 10 stress relief secrets, which I hope you find helpful in your own life. We're all constantly grappling with Google algorithm updates, the pressure of competing with AI-generated content, and the overall uncertainties of the digital landscape. It's a lot to handle, and I've felt the weight of it myself. But through my experiences, I've developed these ten habits that have been my anchor in the stormy seas of online business and that's why I recorded this solo episode. Here are my 10 tips to relieve stress as an online entrepreneur and blogger... Tip 1: Setting Boundaries for Work-Life Balance The first habit I can't emphasize enough is setting clear boundaries between work and personal time. Working from home blurs these lines, and without strict boundaries, burnout is inevitable. I've found that having specific work hours not only boosts my focus but also keeps my motivation levels high. It's about quality, not quantity. Tip 2: Prioritizing Tasks with the Eisenhower Box Next up is prioritizing tasks. The Eisenhower Box has been a game-changer for me. It's a simple yet effective method to differentiate between what's urgent and what's important. This approach has allowed me to concentrate on tasks that truly move the needle for my business, keeping the overwhelming to-do list at bay. Tip 3: Embracing Simple Tech Tools for Productivity In the realm of productivity, I'm all for using simple tech tools. The Pomodoro Technique, paired with straightforward tools like tomato-timer.com, has revolutionized my workflow. I also love Google Docs and Google Sheets even thought they're ugly! It's about finding tools that are easy to use, like MiloTreeCart, that get the job done so you will want to return to over and over again. Tip 4: The Power of Connections Another habit I hold dear is maintaining connections. Whether it's with family, friends, or business peers, nurturing relationships is vital. It's easy to feel isolated in this line of work, so building a network within your niche and leveraging the power of networking is crucial for support and growth. Tip 5: The Importance of Continual Learning I dedicate time each day to continual learning. Staying informed about online business trends and emerging technologies is non-negotiable. It's how I empower myself to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing digital environment. Tip 6: Mindfulness and Gratitude Mindfulness practices, such as expressing gratitude is central to my stress management strategy. Reflecting on blessings are not just good for my soul; they're essential for my mental clarity and well-being. Before I go to bed. Each night, I make a list in my head of all the things I'm grateful for, and it puts everything in perspective for me. Taking this time to slow down and reflect, focusing on gratitude and how far I've come and all the blessings in my life does wonders for me, so I recommend you try that as well. Tip 7: Get Moving If you're not regularly moving your body, I recommend you start. It doesn't have to be intense, but what a difference it's made in my own life, especially for me who spends a lot of hours sitting in front of my computer. It gives me energy, boosts my mood, and gets me out of my head. If you hate exercise, just try walking outside. It honestly does wonders. Tip 7: Embracing Imperfection and Setting Realistic Goals I've learned to embrace imperfection and set realistic goals. Aiming for "B minus" work and celebrating small victories helps maintain a healthy perspective on achievement. It's about progress, not perfection. And those times when I can't reach my goals I try really hard to give myself grace. I don't always achieve it, but I have realized that punishing myself doesn't help and that if I can be gentle, it's amazing how much faster I can pick myself up and try again. Tip 9: The Value of Feedback Seeking feedback from trusted sources is invaluable. It offers fresh perspectives and insights that are crucial for refining business strategies and personal growth. And as you know, I offer free 20 minute calls with bloggers and online entrepreneurs who want to start selling digital products. People tell me they get so much out of these calls because I'm unbiased. I have distance, I am fresh eyes. So, you want people close to you who can see those opportunities. If you're feeling stuck and you're ready to explore digital products. Definitely book a 20 minute call with me. Tip 10: Prioritizing Mental Well-Being I try not to sweat the small stuff. It's incredibly easy to get caught up in those minor setbacks. So what I have found is that when I fixate on these small details, I can't focus on the important goals. So I try to recognize what small in the grand scheme of things like these are the things that when I look back in a year, I won't even remember. I also try to practice letting go. I also keep my eye on the prize, which are the big goals. I think about what the tasks are that can have a real impact on my growth and my success, and I point my north star that way. Sometimes it's just remembering that with a little bit of time, the pain will dull and it will pass. Keeping perspective is key to staying in the game, even when it feels tough. Conclusion In closing, I urge my fellow entrepreneurs to prioritize mental well-being. The tips and habits I've shared are more than just strategies; they're a testament to the resilience and determination needed to navigate the entrepreneurial landscape. Remember to give yourself grace and seek support when needed. By sharing my journey, I hope to empower you to face the challenges of online business with confidence and a healthy mindset. We're in this together, and with the right habits and mindset, we can not only survive but thrive in the world of online entrepreneurship. Hello and welcome to "Time Out with Soren"! I'm your host, Soren Azorian, and I'm genuinely happy to have you join me for another brightening episode. Today, we're diving headfirst into a topic that's universally relatable – the ceaseless struggle against distractions. Get ready to get on a captivating journey that shows the transformative potential of self-mastery, showing you how to reclaim your productivity and reignite your passion. And guess what? We're not stopping there. Along the way, we'll be providing you with actionable plans that empower you to become a shining example, inspiring others to follow suit. Have you ever felt like distractions are derailing your progress? In today's episode, we're examining deep into the space of self-mastery and its profound impact on your productivity. But that's not all – stay tuned for actionable strategies that will guide you in taming distractions and taking back control of your time.......................... Here are your actionable plans: Focus Time Blocks: Dedicate specific time blocks to focused work. Set a timer for a certain period, say 25 or 30 minutes, and immerse yourself in a single task. This technique, known as the Pomodoro Technique, helps minimize distractions and enhance your productivity. Mindful Breaks: Take short breaks between your focus sessions. Use these breaks to practice mindfulness exercises, deep breathing, or a brief walk. These moments of mindfulness can rejuvenate your energy and help you stay centered. Digital Detox: Designate periods in your day for a digital detox. Turn off notifications and set your devices aside to create uninterrupted stretches of focused time. Declutter Your Space: A cluttered workspace can contribute to mental clutter. Regularly declutter and organize your workspace to promote a clear mind and enhance your ability to focus. Prioritize Tasks: Create a daily task list and prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency. Tackling high-priority tasks first ensures that you make progress on essential goals.   A Special Note From Soren In my book, “BREAKTHROUGH FORMULA FOR BUSINESSES – A CEO's Guide to Adaptability” I dive deep into strategies that help businesses thrive in ever-changing environments. According to an MIT study, a toxic work culture is the number one reason why people say they've left their jobs.Whether it's a micro-managing boss or an uncooperative team, a toxic work environment can make it dreadful to go to work on Mondays and prevent you from doing your best work.Marketers have it worst.Everyone has an opinion on what the marketing team should be doing, which means people could become over-critical and (sometimes) abusive to marketers. So how do you avoid working in a toxic environment? One way is to nip it early by asking smart interview questions. Remember—you're interviewing the company as much as they're interviewing you.Enter Sara Pion, Head of Web Experience at Dandy. She has worked as a marketing leader at some of the fastest-growing tech startups, including Dandy, Voiceflow, Alyce, and Drift. Sara has seen way too many marketers get burned by a toxic environment. Here's why:There are a lot of leaders out there who think that they have a concept and a grasp of what marketing is. And then, if a leader comes in and their ideas do not align with their ideas, there's going to be a lot of friction. Ultimately the CEO in that situation usually believes that they are correct. And that's why the average tenure for marketing leaders is under two years.Today, Sara shares 5 interview questions every marketer should ask to avoid working in a toxic environment. In this Marketing Powerups episode, you'll learn:Red flags to watch out for during the interview process.Questions to ask interviewers about work culture. How to get out of a toxic work environment. One power-up that's helped accelerate Sara's career. The SponsorI want to thank the sponsor of this episode, 42/Agency.When you're in scale-up mode, and you have KPIs to hit, the pressure is on to deliver demos and signups. You know effective execution is what keeps your business moving forward quickly and profitably, but sometimes getting the entire organization to execute well is a challenge. In today's video I share the three key things to have in mind for effective execution: 1. Clear priorities for everyone 2. Measurement of progress on priorities 3. Effective meeting rhythms. Not just meetings that everyone hates and could have been done by email, but “effective meetings”. Regularly, to make sure we're all staying focused and uncovering challenge areas before they turn into problems. And most importantly, a culture of execution is fostered by you as leadership, staying focused and doing what you say you're going to do.Connect with me on LinkedInWatch episodes on our YouTube Channel Watch THIS episode on our YouTube Channel Schedule a Discovery Call with me www.kaizenperformance.com
