Tym razem zaczęliśmy od bezsenności spowodowanej psem i niespodziewanego zainteresowania naszym podcastem. Ale nie rozwijając zanadto tematu przeszliśmy do szatańskich okoliczności poczęcia jednego z synów Henryka I Ptasznika z dynastii Ludolfingów. Drugi z nas wskazał na rozbieżność między rzeczywistością a reporterską prezentacją relacji niemiecko-polskich. W sekcji bibliograficznej pierwszy z nas przedstawił tom studiów poświęconych upamiętnianiu i władzy w średniowiecznej Europie, a także książkę dokumentującą powstawanie koncepcji Odrzanii. Drugi z nas opowiedział o pewnym dzienniku żołnierza I wojny światowej pochodzącego z Górnego Śląska. Sporo uwagi poświęcił też zbiorowi tekstów Ksawerego Pruszyńskiego zachwycając się językiem i wskazując na edukacyjny ich walor. Wreszcie zapowiedział nową książkę byłego ambasadora niemieckiego w Polsce poświęconą aspektom polityki wschodniej współczesnych Niemiec. Tematem przewodnim odcinka były możliwości i ograniczenia wykorzystywania mediów społecznościowych do prowadzenia badań historycznych, ale też popularyzowania wiedzy historycznej. Wskazywaliśmy na zmiany, jakie zaszły w funkcjonowaniu mediów społecznościowych w ostatnich latach. Utrudniają nam one wykorzystywanie tego narzędzia do realizacji naszych aktywności. Con i suoi molteplici significati, essa ci aiuta a comprendere la genesi della dea Sekhmet e a chiarire la duplice natura di  questa divinità molto venerata, ma anche tanto temuta nell'antichità. Rappresentata con il corpo di donna e la testa di leonessa, Sekhmet era una dea distruttiva e feroce, ma al tempo stesso anche dotata di poteri protettivi e di guarigione. Il suo culto, inoltre, fu protagonista di uno fra i gruppi statuari più imponenti mai realizzato, ossia quello che Amenhotep III volle per il suo Tempio di Milioni di Anni a Kom el-Hettan. On Theology: Herman Bavinck's Academic Orations (Brill, 2020) presents four previously untranslated works by Herman Bavinck (1854-1921), here introduced and translated by Bruce Pass. These four speeches offer important insights into Bavinck's conceptualization of the discipline of theology, its place in the modern university, and the relation in which theology stands to religion. In the introductory essay, Bruce R. Pass draws attention to the way these speeches shed light on the development of Bavinck's thought across his tenure at the Kampen Theological School and the Free University of Amsterdam as well as the complex relationship in which Bavinck's thought stands to that of Friedrich Schleiermacher. It is an important and unique contribution to the burgeoning scholarship on and translation work of the late 19th and early 20th Dutch NeoCalvinist movement. Bruce Pass is a senior honorary research fellow at the University of Queensland, Australia. In diesem Teil diskutiert Luc Ciompi zunächst definitorische Probleme von überlappenden Begriffen wie Emotion, Gefühl, Affekt in unterschiedlichen wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen. Im Rahmen der Affektlogik wird der Begriff des Affekts als Oberbegriff über gefühlsartige Phänomene aller Art verwendet und scharf definiert. Wir sprechen mit Christiane Reinecke, Professorin für Neuere und Neueste europäische Geschichte an der Europa-Universität Flensburg. Ihr Zugang zur Welt war früh über Bücher, denn die gab es auch auf dem Dorf. Christiane Reinecke ist eine der Herausgeberinnen des Inventar für Migrationsbegriffe – ein Webarchive, dass sich mit Begriffen aus der Migrationsdebatte und deren Herkunft auseinandersetzt. Also mit welchen Problemen oder Konflikten sind bestimmte Begriffe verbunden. Und endlich sprechen wir mal mit einer Expertin über die Nutzung der Begriffe "Flüchtling" und "Geflüchtete". Die Zeit des Nationalsozialismus beeinflusst Familiengeschichten bis heute. Was ist aus den Tätern, was aus den Opfern geworden? Im zweiten Teil der Doppelfolge geht es um einen NS-Täter, dessen Verbrechen seine Angehörigen bis heute belasten. Artur Wilke aus Peine war als SS-Offizier an der Ermordung von Tausenden Menschen im heutigen Belarus beteiligt. Nach dem Krieg nahm er die Identität seines im Krieg gefallenen Bruders an. Unter falschem Namen zog er zurück nach Deutschland, heiratete ein zweites Mal und adoptierte schließlich seine leiblichen Kinder als deren angeblicher Onkel. Anfang der 60er-Jahre flog er auf und wurde verurteilt. Das Schweigen im Dorf hielt trotzdem an, bis der Journalist Jürgen Gückel begann, zu recherchieren. Artur Wilke war sein erster Klassenlehrer. Recognizing the absence of a God named Yahweh outside of ancient Israel, this study addresses the related questions of Yahweh's origins and the biblical claim that there were Yahweh-worshipers other than the Israelite people. Beginning with the Hebrew Bible, with an exhaustive survey of ancient Near Eastern literature and inscriptions discovered by archaeology, and using anthropology to reconstruct religious practices and beliefs of ancient Edom and Midian, this study proposes an answer. The main events of the Diet of Worms relating to Luther took place from 16 to 18 April 1521. This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Diet of Worms, and on this occasion, we welcome Dr. Herman Selderhuis to rehearse the events of the diet and share his thoughts about its enduring significance for the church. The Diet of Worms of 1521 was a formal deliberative assembly of the Holy Roman Empire called by Emperor Charles V and conducted in the city of Worms. Martin Luther was summoned to the Diet in order to renounce or reaffirm his views in response to a Papal bull of Pope Leo X. Luther defended these views and refused to recant them. At the end of the Diet, the Emperor issued the Edict of Worms, condemning Luther and banning citizens from propagating his ideas. Dr. Herman Selderhuis is Professor of church history and church polity at the Theological University of Apeldoorn and President of the REFORC (Reformation Research Consortium). Adriaan Neele, who is director of the doctoral programme and Professor of Historical Theology at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, has edited an outstanding collection of essays on Petrus van Mastricht. This new book, Petrus van Mastricht (1630-1706): Text, Context, and Interpretation (Vandenhoeck and Ruprecht, 2020), combines work by new and well-established scholars to examine the ways in which the achievements of this eminent protestant scholastic theologian have impacted upon theology and philosophy. The book contains ground-breaking arguments, challenges an emerging consensus about the nature of religious and political thinking in the period, and provides a road-map for new directions in the burgeoning field of early modern historical theology. Crawford Gribben is a professor of history at Queen's University Belfast. In Denying Her Voice: The Figure of Miriam in Ancient Jewish Literature (Vandenhock and Ruprecht, 2016) Hanna Tervanotko first analyzes the treatment and development of Miriam as a literary character in ancient Jewish texts, taking into account all the references to this figure preserved in ancient Jewish literature from the exilic period to the early second century C.E.: Exodus 15:20-21; Deuteronomy 24:8-9; Numbers 12:1-15; 20:1; 26:59; 1 Chronicles 5:29; Micah 6:4, the Septuagint, the Dead Sea Scrolls (4Q365 6 II, 1-7; 4Q377 2 I, 9; 4Q543 1 I, 6 = 4Q545 1 I, 5; 4Q546 12, 4; 4Q547 4 I, 10; 4Q549 2, 8), Jubilees 47:4; Ezekiel the Tragedian 18; Demetrius Chronographer frag. 3; texts by Philo of Alexandria: De vita contemplativa 87; Legum allegoriae 1.76; 2.66-67; 3.103; De agricultura 80-81; Liber antiquitatum biblicarum 9:10; 20:8, and finally texts by Josephus: Antiquitates judaicae 2.221; 3.54; 3.105; 4.78. These texts demonstrate that the picture of Miriam preserved in the ancient Jewish texts is richer than the Hebrew Bible suggests. The results provide a contradictory image of Miriam. On the one hand she becomes a tool of Levitical politics, whereas on the other she continues to enjoy a freer role. People continued to interpret earlier literary traditions in light of new situations, and interpretations varied in different contexts. Second, in light of poststructuralist literary studies that treat texts as reflections of specific social situations, Tervanotko argues that the treatment of Miriam in ancient Jewish literature reflects mostly a reality in which women had little space as active agents. Despite the general tendency to allow women only little room, the references to Miriam suggest that at least some prominent women may have enjoyed occasional freedom. The Christ the Center panel had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Cornelis P. Venema, president of Mid-America Reformed Seminary in Dyer, Indiana, and professor of doctrinal studies, about his forthcoming book, Children at the Lord’s Table: Assessing the Case for Paedocommunion, due out in March from Reformation Heritage Books. Dr. Venema discussed the causes for the rise in interest in the idea that since we baptize infants, children should also be admitted to the Lord’s table without a prior profession of faith. Following the general contours of the book, Dr. Venema addresses the historical, confessional, and biblical arguments for paedocommunion and shows why this practice is ultimately unbiblical. Whether you are for or against the admission of children to the Lord’s supper, you will appreciate both the discussion here and the book.
